Ranger Subclass: Monster Slayer Conclave (Reworked)

The original Monster Slayer had strong flavor but played more like a mage-hunter than a true monster tracker. This rework leans into the vibe of a grizzled veteran with a worn bestiary in one hand and a silvered blade in the other, like Geralt from The Witcher piecing together clues from a cursed undead, or Hellboy staring down something pulled from folklore.

This revamp stays true to the subclass’s core identity and original design, but now every feature synergizes better with each other to make you feel like a true scholar of the supernatural.

Subclasseptember 2023, Day 21 - Spiritcaller Ranger

No its not a zanpakuto, stop laughing!

This one's another simple one, a Ranger with a fun bit of Spellblade flavour. The idea of the weapon having a spirit was wholeheartedly yoinked from Bleach and the Stormlight Archive.

The actual subclass itself is pretty simple, most of what you can do here doesn't really have many hard-baked limits aside from spell slots.

Not a huge amount to say on this one, was a lot of fun; not 100% sure on the pseudo-Spellstrike at the end, but I was scraping for high-level ideas.

Hey, first new homebrew in a long while! The reason why I made this one is really, REALLY dumb!

A buddy of mine randomly prompted me to make a "Gourd Mage" subclass for D&D (with no additional context or elaboration as to what that meant), and I decided to spend my entire day whipping this up as a meme.

Please enjoy and leave any thoughts or criticisms you might have! This is a VERY rough draft, but I think the mechanics are cool.

Subclasses for the last 6 classes

I know I said the prior group was the last, but then ideas came to round out the other 6 classes. All 12 subclasses are bundled into 1 file.

The White Monk is the Monk's subclass Way of the White First/Warrior of the Divine, a more divine themed subclass.

Geomancer is a Ranger archetype that focuses on spell casting based on their various favored terrains, and gain other bonuses based on these choices.

The Mime is the Bard's College of Mimicry (represented by the Morpher), copying the actions of others.

Warlock's have Bravely Second's Guardian (represented by the Defender), able to link it's soul to others.

Phantom Sorcery, themed off of Espers, is a subclass focusing on the use of Metamagic, and has the option to choose any spells for it's spell list.

Mirage Domain for Clerics is themed after Yuna and using Rydia for some more inspiration, focuses on summoning spells.

Hogwarts Legacy Meets DND

Been drawing DND peeps for an upcoming campaign I’ll be playing in, and I ran out of characters. (All two of them.)

So now you guys get to enjoy . . .

So I guess art prompt for you bored lovelies out there needing something to draw: I want to see your HL MCs and OCs as DND characters! What class (and subclass I s’pose) would they be?

Bonus: The other characters I’ve been drawing. A tiefling sorcerer and an astral-high elf warlock.

Trying to keep this blog 99% Hogwarts-related, so I wouldn’t post these otherwise. But I’m proud of them. 10 points to your house of choice if you can guess which one is mine :)

Day 16: Divine!

I went through quite a process for this one.

First, I wanted to have a paladin, but there would be very little way to differentiate it from other paladins like devotion or crown. But the idea of a ranged smite had already formed in my mind.

So, I went to Ranger! I have not made a ranger this month yet, and I want to make about the same number of classes for each one, so this is what I came up with.

First, I thought about the ranger being the divine guardian. But then I thought "wait... guardian angels are a thing" so I came up with you literally being able to summon your guardian angel.

all this to say, have a Jojo reference.

What I *think* I know about DND classes as someone who never played DND

Disclaimer: I WILL forget and leave out some classes

(my qualifications: i saw the DND movie one(1) time and im on the internet a lot)

Barbarian: strong & dumb, if i recall correctly they are better fighters when naked (??)

Fighter: barbarians nerdy little brother, pretty sure they can fight with any weapon

Ranger: Legolas but weaker, perceptive af

Bard: HORNY theater kid usually with magic

Paladin: Fighter but has an oath. They can break this oath and subclass as a “Oathbreaker”. Idk what that means abilities and powers wise tho. They feel quite cultmembery to me…

Druid: wizard that touches a little too much grass, aka Radagas from Lord of The Rings

Cleric: praying wizard

Monk: hand to hand combat fighters “I am become blade” ahh people, i’ve got a feeling that they’d be good at yoga, no particular reason, (I always picture them as old Aang from ATLA/TLOK)

Wizard: FIREEEEEEBAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Rogue: sneaky little bastards, assasin vibes, i feel like their weapon of choice would be a dagger… or two… or three… or….

Sorcerer: wizards but they learn spells easier, it’s giving gifted kid burnout right before the burnout

Warlock: wizards because they made a deal with the devil (or something devil adjacent), the devil may or may not give you treats from time to time (im still confused about this one…)

I think I’ve got them all if I left some out please let me know!

The Lonestar Conclave - Homebrew Ranger Subclass

No man is an island; no star shines alone. The rays of high noon may blind with their brightness, but even the sun must set at the end of the day.

The Lonestar Ranger may be designed to take on enemies in a duel, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work in a team. You could pull an enemy away from your teammates with the threat of justice, or distract an enemy long enough for others to escape. It's an unusual way of taking a role as a "tank," considering you have basically no way to improve your durability. But you know what they say - the best defense is a good offense.
