❤️ — raphael x traumatized!reader.

☆ — oh. you went through a lot, so much in fact that you can't even trust someone like raph- one the gentlest and understanding souls of the team. at first, when you were all wary towards him, he initially thought that maybe his appearance was intimidating, he- and in the nicest way possible, does look like a brute after all, and it can be scary for most when interacting with him for the first time. though, he was wrong, and boy did he feel stupid about it.

☆ — it was honestly horrifying to hear that you have so many unfolded chapters of trauma within you. from physical injuries to mental scars, it was something that he hasn't seen before.. well, if you exclude what him and his family went through.. but you- you are different. untrusting, aggressive to those that mean to help you- like him. and even when you tried to let loose, you would just spiral back into aggression. it was scary seeing you that way- even for him, though even more worrisome was the fact that you didn't accept help from anyone.

☆ — so he is, how do I say it- gentle. patient with, and overall concerned about. when he looks at you, all defensive and fierce, it's like he is laying his eyes on a kitten who is desperate for survival- and will do anything to keep it self from harm. and raph's determination to get you to let your guard down is evident, though not smothering. his taking his time- giving you time to get to know him, to understand that he only wants to soothe your tormented soul. he's not there to make fun of you for struggling- not, not him, neither will he take advantage or manipulate you- he's just, here to help. to give you the understanding and confirmation that those who were supposed to care for you- to protect you, didn't.

☆ — .. though, at times- as calmly as he wants to take this matter, when you feel guilty about the things you went through- saying that you deserved what happened to you, and that it was your fault for not doing anything to stop it, or if he even hears you talk about how stupid your struggles are, he'll kind off.. rush things. he'll straight up snap and tell to your face that hey- nothing was your fault !! you couldn't have known any better back then. you didn't know how to stop it- you didn't deserve anything that happened to you !! and all that before letting out a huge sigh- which then would turn into a gasp of horror after realising that he in fact, did not take an important matter such as this slow.

☆ — and so- after that, you will have a sweating, anxious snapper, apologizing to you over and over about being so sudden with his comment, now paranoid when you're around. he'll even step away from you for a while, giving you some time to yourself before, reluctantly, returning to you to show that he didn't give up on you- neither did he abandon you. you don't have to worry about him leaving you as well- now matter how defensive you may be towards him, or how reluctant he is to take any big steps at the moment. and the next time that he does feel confident enough to talk to you, he'll do it more patiently than before and he would, admittedly nervously, ask if you'd be okay with him giving you physical comfort. a hug- a secure, comforting one, that is.

💜 — donatello x traumatized!reader.

☆ — okay, so: you are one troubled individual, a very troubled one. it's clear to him that you've been through a lot, and he wants to help you, but your aggressive defenses and you defying his assistance is frustrating to him. it's like you don't understand that he only means good- can't you see that his intentions towards you are not of malice ??

☆ — and it's more so frustrating to watch when you pin all the blame to your self for all the things you've gone through seeing you deteriorate, crumble under the idea that you are at fault for all the people that left you, all the struggles you were put into just feels so.. wrong. it almost makes him want to bring out an immediate answer to your 'statements' - tell you how stupid they are, and how stupid YOU are for believing those things. you were a victim with no way of the things that happened to you, you've been neglected- made fun of, abandoned, and yet somehow - this is your fault ?? and how exactly- can you give him a reason to balance your statement, hmm ??

☆ —..but he doesn't butt in yet- oh no no no. he wants to analyse, to gather further information about your past life, your mental scars- everything. he wants to piece them together so that when the time comes- he'll have found the correct way to approach such a sensitive matter. even though he's struggling with empathising with others- and is generally confused when it comes to either giving, or recieving comfort.. this isn't a case that he can afford to ignore, he can't exactly give up on communicating with you and just expect a broken person to put themselves back together. no, not own their own, you've done this for a long time yourself, it's time someone comes to your aid- even if you are defiant and mistrusting towards the idea.

☆ — he won't exactly taking this situation as easy as he should though, because once the time to conf confrontation comes- he is blunt with his message, straightforward and surprisingly confident with talking to you about your emotions and getting you to unfold your trauma to you. he'd be lying if he said that it was easy to approach you though, no matter how much he kept that confident persona when speaking to you. he at times felt reluctant, even as he confronted you- he knows that your mental health was hanging by thread, and he felt that as if that thread was his own words. when he usually says or does something that is wrong- he tries to deny his own mistakes, to reason with his actions and put the blame onto others - but if he sees that you are at the brink of lashing out at him for the words that he spoke- even if they were meant to be.. encouraging, he won't exactly be able to deflect, nor deny the things he said to you. the way his words hurt you further.

☆ — instead the thought that he fucked you up even further get stuck on his brain, playing on loop like a broken record as he beats his head around to find out where he went wrong. was it how blunt he was with you ?? his words ?? he thought he had this all planned out- you'd think that after all this time he picked up on your trauma and analysed it in his brain that he'd have a suitable way of providing you comfort and reassurance. though, he doesn't let that bring him down- and instead let's out a determined huff and tries again..after giving you time to yourself- of course. and the next time he tries, he still maintains some firmness in his tone, but the way he confronts you about you feeling guilty for everything that has happened to you, isn't as.. harsh. he doesn't rush this time- and while he still he thinks of you as a dum-dum for even considering the idea that you are to blame for the trauma that you were subjected to- the trauma that you didn't even ask for, he is not going to rub it on your face this time.. or at least- he tries to hold back and such. unlike Raph though- he wouldn't ask if you want or need a hug, as he thinks that would be too.. straightforward- and it would be uncomfortable for the both of you. instead, he'll place of on his mechanical arms on your head or shoulder, and give you a small pat or two to let you know that, he's here for you- and he isn't going to go anywhere. he's not going to leave you in any way.

💙 — leonardo x traumatized!reader.

☆ — ..yikesss. you've been through.. a lot. it's gut wrenching to hear that you- a singular individual, had to face so many horrors in your life. from parental ones, to abandonment ones- even having dead family members and friends.. you've got the whole package- and it's sickening to think about. it's not a matter that he just deflect with a joke, or help you cope through humour, not- it's too far off from that.

☆ — so, what can he do when he finds himself speechless about what you went through ?? leo is not usually one to take delicate matters seriously- and always finds ways to get over them with a quick wit and laugh- even if he comes face to face with his own traumas. but this time.. he can't just laugh this situation off. you need someone to support you- you are struggling, and while he wants to be the one to help you, he is at loss as to how to approach you without coming off as neither too serious, nor too humourous. regardless, he still wants to be of help you either way.

☆ — when he comes up to you, right off the bat he can sense the boiling tension built within you, the look of vulnerability evident in your eyes. it gets him nervous, wary- but he still wants to talk to you, to ask if are need comfort. you try to rebel against him, to 'protect' yourself in a way, and for a moment he feels awkwarded out and slides away from you to give you some space, a bit weirded out by your aggressive defiance.. but that was only one time on his part- and he after realising that he just slid off like a coward, he beats himself up for it for a while, until he ultimately decides that he won't allow himself to run off like that again- not from you.

☆ — again, he tries for a second time- then a third, and so on. he won't let you 'scare him off' again, and is determined on getting the message across that- hey, he won't hurt you, nor turn your trauma into a joke to laugh at. though, he tries to use his subtle wits to get the idea through you from time to time, however it just feels.. wrong. though, he tries to be sly for this matter- trying to take this easy as he can, as to not stress you out even further, but also making sure you know that, as nonchalant as he tries to make himself seem in this matter- he is taking your situation seriously, and isn't going to leave you on your own devices.. though, there some times, where he, almost impatienly, tries to get you to lower your guard, to open up to him- his behaviour towards you more confrontantial at times, and though they'll may be rare- they can still be overwhelming.

☆ — and, as soon he realises that he'll may be too much at times, he'll let go of that persistence of his, impatience melting down into concern. he would call off his attempts at confronting you- for just a while, so you can get some time to yourself, and once you are calm once again- he'll try and confront you about your issues again. though this time, leo's sly manner has kind of... disappeared, and is instead a bit more assertive with his words- reminding you how much you are worth it, telling you that you are not to blame for whatever happened to you. stuff like that. he, however- tries to sneak in a humourous wit, though not a mocking one- and instead one that will hopefully let you crack out a small laugh, as if trying to bring the slightest bit off light into your darkened soul in the way he knows best.

🧡 — michelangelo x traumatized!reader.

☆ — the things you had to go through have truly shaken this sympathetic box turtle to his core. oh what has he learned about you- the things that you endured.. it's all enough to make him wanna cling to you- being in a constant state of worry for you. how can he not be ?? he fears that if he leaves you alone even for a second- you'll break down, scared at idea that you'll may think that he'll may leave as you well.

☆ — however- as close as he wants to be to you, to ensure that your mental health doesn't deteriorate any further, he is shook once he sees you behaving like some wild stray when he tries to approach you, to offer you support. he could feel the vulnerability and fear radiating from you, and taking notes of your tense stance, mikey begun feeling conflicted as to whether it is better to give you time to yourself, or be near you at all times, just in case you need someone to lift you up mentally..or literally. or both.

☆ — he wants to listen to you talking about your emotions, he WANTS you to communicate with him !! it'll be so much better if you just let loose and spoke with him for a while though, right ?? he can help you- but you just won't let him !! it hurts to see you so mistrustful of him, to see you behave like a feral animal that just wants to protect it self, shoving him off and clawing at him to leave you alone..⁠

☆ — but, if he puts into consideration the fact that you've been betrayed and left behind so- so many times in the past, that you've been hurt by people who couldn't even bother to care for you.. that you've lost pretty much everything, everyone- and every sense of clarity that you have- he can see as to why you are not willing to open up to him. he figures that you are scared, scared to get attached- scared to be betrayed and left behind again. but either, way he has to approach you someway- to get the fact that he won't leave you behind, that he won't take advantage of your feelings and vulnerability- that he won't make a fool out of you for being so troubled.

☆ — he could put his Dr Feelings persona into play, and act as if he is your therapist- but then, he thinks it over and he decides that you may rather need.. a friend. him putting up a stoic face and treat you like a patient wouldn't really help things - maybe leave that to the professionals. for him though, he is going to support you as a friend- family, whatever you need him to be. when he speaks to you- it's warm, comforting- his words understanding, friendly, though he may find himself shaking you by the shoulders in a 'dr delicate touch' manner if he hears you talk shit about your self- reminding you of your worth in an almost overwhelming manner. he immediately apologizes though, and always asks if you need time away from him each time he does so. but he doesn't do it because he is angry towards you- he gets angry towards the fact that you would down yourself, and your very own worth like that. and he can't have his friend cursing and bestowing their very own existence without him interfering to prove them wrong !

2k12 Donnie! X fem!reader

Pt. 1

AN- In this chapter I was kinda just trying to establish your relationship with the turtles and April. So if you don’t like it I really am sorry. But hopefully part 3 will be better. Enjoy! <3

Word count - 1046

Well the whole mutant thing went down last month, and you’re still trying to process what happened. I mean to go on a walk and almost freeze to death, just to be saved by a girl you couldn’t even call a good acquaintance and her mutant friends! Turns out the whole rat thing happened because they made a crazy scientist guy mad, or they did something to piss him off… and their dad is a rat, he’s cool.

Because you don’t go to school you’re in the lair with the guys a lot, and you’ve gotten to know them better.

Leo is such a dork, not in a smart way like Donnie but in a funny way. He tries sooo hard to be a good leader so he copies the ones in cartoons, like spock from startrek, and robin from teen titans. And the reason this is so dorky is cuz it’s so obvious what he’s doing, and when his training exercises don’t go according to the plan, (aka if it doesn’t make him look super cool) he gets soo pissy (but his brothers can never know that). Nothing that a pizza can’t fix, ya’ know if Mikey doesn’t Finnish the whole thing within a millisecond, of it being in the lair.

Raph isn’t as angry as everybody says, his anger issues aren’t even that bad. Sure he’s aggressive, but that’s mainly during fights or whenever Mikey is a ten foot radius of him. For the most part he’s pretty chill, & keeps to himself, plus spike.

Everyone made sure to fill you in on the Donnie and April situation, and the weird way he was acting when the two of you first met, instantly make sense. After you informed him that you and April weren’t close, and telling her how great of a guy he was, wasn’t gonna help much, he was devastated. But other than his obsession with April, he’s a cool guy. most times when you’re in the lair, you and Donnie are hanging out in the lab. He helps you with your math and science homework, and you help around the lab in whatever ways possible. Working with Donnie is fun, and he trust you enough to let you in on his schemes to try and win over April. They’re incredibly weird and you doubt any of them will work, but! they’re interesting.

There’s never a dull moment with Donatello. he’s funny- if you get the joke, and the more time you spend with him, the harder it is to not get it. And then there are days when nothing happens, the two of you just hang out in the lab while Don works on blueprints while you’re reading.

And Mikey is kinda gross, but honestly the sweetest thing you’ve ever met. He gets bullied by his brothers a lot, but he’s so nice, the boys are soo mean. Sometimes you and Mikey watch romcoms, or action movies together.

You and April were never friends but she’s actually fun to be around, you, April, and Irma, go out out all the time. Shopping, movies, or just hanging out, it’s so fun being with those two.

And master Splinter doesn’t talk much, but for as much as you know, he’s just a dad making his Sons friends feel welcome in their home. And he taught you how to play shogi, you’ve gotten really good.

Ginger: “Irma had to go home, something with her cat. Wanna go to the lair instead?”

Damn this was disappointing, April and Irma were gassing this movie up sooo much. You made sure not to watch trailers or anything just so you’d be completely blind. But it’s just a movie.

Snow globe: “It’s fine. I’m omw to the hole rn, meet you there <3”

You went back upstairs to put on your old combat boots, then you started making your way to the lair. You love the boys and splinter, they’re great. But doing down into piss, and shit, with your knee high converse, that were around $100 was not! gonna happen.

You met up with April, and the two of you talked about whatever while walking to the lair. School, family, clothes, things weren’t weird until she brought up boys.

“So did you have a boyfriend, or a crush before shit hit the fan?”

“U-h well…” romance wasn’t exactly a topic you were comfortable in. I mean you’ve had crushes but none of them turned out good, and some didn’t even turn. “No, I have a problem with making friends with people I have crushes on. And when I do confess if I do, we’re usually too close of friends for them to reciprocate.” You let out a chuckle trying to make it look as if you don’t care much. “What about you?”

“Uhh… well you know the whole thing with Donnie. And ive gone on a couple dates in my time, but they never ended up anything. So I guess we’re in the same boat.”

“Yeah. I feel bad for you honestly. Donnie’s soo nice, and I love hanging out with him, and you’ll never see that side of him. But at least you have Raph, Leo, and Mikey.”

You look over at April and she’s giving you a somber look. oh fuck, was she offended by what you said about Donnie!? “I’m not saying that you and Donnie will never actually be friends, I’m just saying he’s always tense around you not trying to embarrass himself so he-“

“No, no I get it (Y/N), I’ve accepted it, for now. But he’s obviously gonna grow out of it, and it’ll be like it never happened. I give it the rest of the year.”

“Hah! Don’t you think you’re giving him a little too much grace? Donnie’s like a puppy waiting at the door for his owner to come back when he’s with you.”

The two of you start laughing as you approach the opening of the lair. “As if Donnie’s way too busy to be-“

“April!” Before she’s even two step into the lair Donnie grabs her and holds her in his arms.

“Hi Donnie.” She pats his shoulders obviously uncomfortable. You walk ahead, and you sit on the couch next to Mikey while he plays with ice cream kitty.

“Angela, sir ice cream kitty, how do you do?” You say in a forced posh accent and Mickey follows suit.

“Splendid, the hydrangeas are in full bloom, and they’re a sight to see if I do say so myself.” Ice cream kitty meows after him. A new show started running that takes place in the regency era, about bridges or something. You and Mickey started watching and, it’s quickly becoming one of your favorites.

As you and Mickey are talking, you see April walk over to the old arcade games where Raph and Leo are playing, and you get snatched by Donnie.

“(Y/N)! I need you now!” He whisks you off to his lab, and shuts the door behind him.

“Donnie! Why do you find it necessary to just pick people up!” you snatch his hands off your body, and he apologizes and leads you over to his clipboard.

“Okay hear me out.”

“Donnie I don’t need another 80 step plan on how to get April to text you.”

“It isn’t that. What if I ask her out?”

“No donnie that’s never gon- ASK HER OUT! Donnie that’s like the most normal idea you’ve had. Like EVER, and I’ve only known you for a month.”

“I was thinking a picnic on top a rooftop. Those are always super cute in movies, they have to work irl. Imagine us on a red gingham blanket, with lavender scented candles, a mp3 playing cheesy old love songs, and a whole pizza just for the two of us. How romantic would that be!”

Donnie’s enthusiasm for this was honestly adorable, and if he doesn’t say something weird, you think he might actually have a shot at making this work.

“I mean… it does sound nice. Give it a shot tomorrow night I’ll tell her i need her help with a secret mission… or something?”

“Then instead of you showing up I will, then I’ll lead her to our picnic and she’s sure to fall in love with me.” Donnie was basically bouncing off the walls, his cheeks turned red only at the thought of spending the night with April. You wanted to give him a reality check and say it’s probably not gonna work, but this is actually a good idea. Let’s just give it a shot.

It’s 8pm and the boys went out on patrol. The lair is calm and splinter made tea for you and April, while you’re talking April asks.

“Hey (Y/N) have you thought of training to be a kunoichi with me?”

You chuckled to yourself, “that’s funny” then you continued sipping tea. But when you put your cup down you saw the way April was looking at you and realized she was being serious. “Wait really?”

“Yeah! Don’t you wanna learn ninjutsu?”

“It’s better to learn alongside someone who can push you to do better. and sparing buddies are always fun.” Splinter giggles in whatever way an old rat man can while stroking his beard.

“Uh-“ I mean learning ninjutsu would be fun, but you don’t wanna be another target for the krang or Foot clan. However both foot clan mutants, and krang bots have seen you with the turtles. “I… Sure?”

April jumps on you and wraps her arms around your shoulders, and you held her back. “This is soo exciting! Now you’re really apart of the family.”

There’s a possibility that this is gonna back fire but as long as you have April and the turtles what’s the worst that could happen?

Right after you tell April that you don’t need help anymore, you grab your shell phone and call Donnie. “I just sent her off. Are you in position?”

“Yeah, I have everything ready. And it looks like something straight out of a fairytale! Do you wanna see?”

“Hell yeah, send me a picture.”

“Okay. I’ll do that right after I text April.”

“What are you telling her?” You roll your eyes and the disappointment in your voice is evident.

“I’m telling her I’m seeing suspicious activity from here. and I don’t trust my brothers, so I want her to come instead.”

“…” you stare at you phone with a sheer look of disgust on your face. In what world would that work, “Donnie are you fucking serious?”

“Y- yeah what about it?” He sounds confused from over the phone, and you can’t blame him. I mean the guy has only ever been with his brothers and dad his whole life, he can’t help being stupid.

“Donnie there’s no way that’s gonna-“

“She just replied. SHES ON HER WAY!” You can hear his phone thud on the ground, yet the squeal he let out still pierces your ears.

“I- I gotta go, before April gets here. Wish me luck.” He hangs up the phone.

You’re wishing him luck, but you know this will probably end in vain. It doesn’t matter how cute the fairy lights are, if she doesn’t like you she doesn’t like you.

But hopefully he doesn’t take this one too hard.

Trying to fit in *⁠.⁠✧

TW: aggression, mention of bullying, bullying

The start of high school hadn’t been what you’d hoped. You’d imagined finally fitting in, making friends, and getting a fresh start, especially with your brothers by your side. But things hadn’t turned out that way. You're their little human sister, the only one Splinter accepted from the beginning.

For the turtles, life at high school had taken off in full force. They were finally accepted, respected—even loved by their classmates. People were fascinated by them, and they were just as fascinated by people, diving into friendships and school activities with a kind of reckless enthusiasm. Watching your brothers finally getting to experience this life they’d dreamed of… you were happy for them, of course. But for you, school had become a place you dreaded.

The bullying had started small, so small you hadn’t even recognized it as bullying at first. It was just a few girls whispering as you walked by, a shove in the hallway, or someone “accidentally” spilling a drink on your backpack. But as the weeks went by, it got worse. Sharp words turned into ugly threats. What started as mean jokes turned into someone shoving you into lockers, grabbing your arm too hard, or “accidentally” tripping you as you walked to class. You tried to tell yourself it wasn’t as bad as it felt, that maybe it would pass. But each day, the weight of it made you feel smaller, and you didn’t know how much longer you could keep up the act.

You were determined not to let your brothers see, though. They were thriving, finally having the life they’d been denied for so long. The last thing you wanted was to ruin that for them. So every day, you forced a smile, acted like everything was fine, and did your best to dodge their questions.

But you couldn’t keep it up forever. That day, as you were trying to slip out of school unnoticed, Leo appeared in the hallway, giving you a small wave and jogging over to you.

“Hey! Thought we’d all walk home together today,” he said, his usual warmth in his voice.

You tried to smile, but it felt like your face was cracking. “Oh… sure. That’d be… nice,” you mumbled, pulling the sleeves of your hoodie down to hide the new bruise on your arm.

Just then, you noticed Mikey, Raph, and Donnie coming around the corner, all of them waving as they spotted you. You felt your stomach drop. You hadn’t been ready to face them all at once. Not today.

“Hey, you okay?” Raph asked, his voice unusually soft, his sharp eyes scanning your face. He knew you well enough to pick up on your mood, even when you tried to hide it.

You forced a laugh, shrugging. “Yeah, totally. Just… tired, I guess.”

Mikey raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. “You’ve been tired a lot lately,” he said, his voice uncharacteristically serious. “Are you sure you’re alright?”

Before you could answer, Leo’s gaze drifted down to your arm. His eyes narrowed as he caught a glimpse of the bruise peeking out from under your sleeve.

“Wait… what happened to your arm?” Leo’s voice was low, but you could hear the worry—and anger—behind it.

You yanked your sleeve down, cursing yourself for letting him see. “It’s nothing. Just… a bruise.”

Raph crossed his arms, his frown deepening. “That doesn’t look like nothing.”

Donnie took a step closer, his face full of concern. “Is someone… are you getting hurt at school?”

For a moment, you considered lying, saying anything to get them to drop it. But the way they were all looking at you—with so much worry and care—broke down every wall you’d built up. You let out a shaky breath, feeling tears prick at the corners of your eyes.

“It’s… some stupid people at school,” you admitted quietly, your voice barely a whisper. “They’ve… they’ve been picking on me.”

Instantly, Raph’s fists clenched, his jaw tightening. “Who?” he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.

You shook your head, not wanting to cause a scene. “It doesn’t matter. They’re just… jerks. I’ll handle it.”

Mikey’s face softened as he stepped closer, wrapping an arm around you. “Hey, you don’t have to handle this alone. We’re here for you, always.”

Leo placed a hand on your shoulder, his touch gentle but reassuring. “You should’ve told us. We could’ve helped. We’re your family—whatever you’re going through, we’re in it with you.”

Donnie nodded, giving you a small, supportive smile. “And if there’s anything we can do, just say the word. We don’t want you going through this alone.”

You looked at each of them, your heart swelling with gratitude. You’d spent so long trying to hide your pain, but now, standing here with them, you realized you didn’t have to. They were here, and they weren’t going anywhere.

“Thank you,” you whispered, finally letting a few tears fall. “I just… didn’t want to ruin things for you guys. You’re finally getting the life you wanted, and I didn’t want to… bring you down.”

Mikey hugged you tighter, shaking his head. “You could never bring us down. You’re family. That’s what matters most.”

Raph’s voice softened, the anger in his eyes replaced with fierce protectiveness. “And if anyone tries to mess with you again… they’ll have to answer to us.”

Leo gave you a warm smile, his grip on your shoulder tightening in reassurance. “From now on, you’re not dealing with this alone. We’ll be here, every step of the way. We are not just heroes who protect the city, we are your brothers who will protect you from all possible evil.”

Welcome back to a re-written 2012 Donatello analysis!

I have posted a 2012 Donnie analysis here previously discussing his obsessional behaviour, and it was quite well received. However, it is not as put together as I would've liked it to be. Vague ideas were mashed into a post after I ranted about aspects of his character to an online friend.

But, I've had some more time to think - this will be a bit longer, and cover some different scenes and ideas, as well as repeating some of the things in my previous analysis - in general, hopefully a more concise and enjoyable analysis of his character.

: IMPORTANT NOTE : To make it clear, I do not support stalking/obsessive behaviour - whatever the reason behind it may be - and I do not want to make it seem like I am infantilizing Donnie in this analysis.

The whole point of this analysis is that I like to be aware of characters' less-than-ideal traits and discuss what the root cause of them might be. The possible/suggested causes does not excuse this behaviour, rather explains it. And people should still be held accountable if they have made another person upset/uncomfortable.

Without further ado, onto the analysis.

I think Donnie's biggest issue is how he looks.

In the 2012 iteration, we never really see any of the turtles have a strong desire to be human, to change how they already are. Mikey sometimes doesn't understand that humans will be scared of him, (Like when he tries to return a cat to its owner, dismissing his brothers when they warn him the owner would be scared of him) but Mikey never has a big moment and lashes out like, ‘I want to be a human so I can make more friends!’

We also see Mikey wonder what he'd look like as a human in an episode after Donnie creates retro-mutagen, in which Mikey assumes he'd turn into a human instead of a regular turtle if he were to use retro-mutagen on himself. It is played as a joke though, as he is seen smiling in the scene following and doesn't seem to show any true disappointment/distress etc towards being how he already is - a mutant.

Raph openly declares himself as ‘handsome’ in Season 1, Episode 2 - so that rules out Raphael, and I don't remember any scenes with Leo being upset or having a negative view attached to being a mutant but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Interestingly enough, Donatello seems to have the most trouble coming-to-terms with the fact that he's a mutant and can't change that out of his brothers.

Outside of being a mutant, it is implied that Donnie already has a fragile self-image anyway.

Remember the episode Turtle Temper? I think it's the third episode of the first season. But at one point, the other turtles are instructed to shoot arrows at Raphael while he has to try and avoid them - Splinter makes it clear, however - that the others are allowed to insult Raphael.

I've seen a content creator say that the insults they throw at Raphael could be more internalised opinions they have on themselves rather than genuinely thinking these crude things about their own brother - think of it like bullying, in the sense that you're often told ‘bullies like to make fun of others because they're insecure themselves’.

People often take out their anger about their insecurities and place them onto other people if given the chance.

Leo says, ‘And you're always whining, poor me, nobody understands me.’ While this is easily applicable to Raph as an insult from Leo, Leo has also had his own fair share of moments where he has gone to Splinter complaining that the others aren't respecting or listening to him, that they don't understand the burden he holds as leader.

Mikey tells Raph he moves like a bloated buffalo. In other words, you're slow. You can't keep up.

And Donnie says, ‘Oh! You can't keep your back straight during Omote Kote Gyaku! And you're ugly!’ I think the first part of this insult is what really hints this is more so them projecting views of themselves than genuinely insulting Raphael. Donnie, out of all of them, is most likely to feel insecure about his height, a lot of teenagers can feel awkward or uncomfortable as a result of their growth spurts, tall individuals are also more prone to slouching.

Donnie also probably spends quite a lot of time hunched at his lab desk, which could also contribute to his posture. I'm pretty sure he is also called ‘scrawny’ in an episode by Karai, but if not Karai, some other character, and Donnie responds, ‘And I'm not scrawny! I'm svelte!’

Raph has also insulted Donnie's looks before, and, although it is unclear if it's a common occurrence, knowing Raph's character it has most likely happened on more than one occasion.

Donnie : And why do you keep grabbing me by the face? What is wrong with my face?!

Raph : Do you want me to list the reasons alphabetically or in descending order of grossness?

So regardless of being mutated or not, it seems like Donnie just has a generalised lack of confidence and some issues surrounding how tall he is.

But onto his issues regarding being mutated.

Donnie might’ve previously not had any issues with being a mutant. Before, it might’ve been just a general lack of confidence, as I have already said. Before April, his brothers would've been the only thing to compare himself to. He lived in a home with only mutants for fifteen years of his life - so had normal teenage issues of going through puberty and insecurities. Tons of people dislike their growth spurts, which is why Donnie's issues at first might seem like normal things for a teenager to worry about. Donnies biggest issue was how scrawny and lanky he saw himself.

But when they meet April, there is a glaring difference.

Suddenly, there is somebody in his life who isn't a mutant like him. It becomes abundantly clear to Donnie that from somebody else's viewpoint, their biggest issue with him wouldn't be his tooth gap or his height, but the plain fact that he's so different. Inhuman. Out of the ordinary. A mutant.

In ‘Mutagen Man Unleashed!’ Donnie says, ‘I'm worse than a nerd - I'm a freak! We're all total and complete freaks-’ This shows that Donnie went from having individual and relatable insecurities to believing that simply being a mutant inherently means you are ugly.

Especially when you consider the fact that, individual-traits-wise, Donnie and Casey both share the same traits, they both have issues with their teeth, and they’re both scrawny and fairly tall - realistically Donnie should believe they're on somewhat equal grounds of ‘unattractive’ qualities, but Donnie seems to believe Casey is naturally at an unfair advantage because he’s human.

As I said, Donnie has begun to associate his very being with ugliness, and so sees Casey as a threat thinking April will lean more towards Casey for the sole fact he's human. Donnie doesn't think that perhaps Casey's behaviour or the way he treats April is what might potentially win her over - when Donnie is ranting to Mutagen Man about why April might be hanging out with some punk kid (Casey) the conclusion he comes to is ‘because he's human, that's why.’

With a smile on his face and a look of anger in his eyes, the way he phrases it and his expression almost comes across as, ‘I knew it.’ It's like he's self-validating his presumptions at this moment.

Donnie tends to get scarily territorial over April, even going as far to try and forcibly push the two apart when April and Casey hug at the beginning of ‘A China-Town Ghost Story’, seemingly oblivious to the fact he could also possibly harm April in his shoving.

If he genuinely loved and cared about April as a person, he'd be more concerned about the fact he could hurt her - instead his eyes are on Casey this whole scene - his competition, the threat, the thing that might make his fears a reality.

Looks are a very important part of gaining a partner in society, Donnie might not love April as a person. Rather, he sees her as a piece of evidence that could potentially soothe his insecurities. If he wins her like some prize, it'd be like saying, ‘Look! I'm not ugly after all because someone wanted to be my girlfriend!’

If he loses April to Casey, it’d be confirming his idea that mutants, as a whole, are ugly.

This whole root cause of his obsessive and almost protective nature over April and wanting to keep her away from Casey really comes to light in the Season 2 episode, ‘Fungus Humungous’ where mutated fungi spreading across the sewers make our heroes hallucinate their worst fears.

Donnie has two scenes displaying his fears. The first is one of April, with sharp teeth and white eyes, and is a lot bigger than him. Which creates a feeling of inferiority, ‘Levels’ is a technique used in theatre. It refers to the use of different heights and positions to convey certain messages. It's often used to indicate status or communicate character relationships.

Here, it's a perceived relationship that Donnie has between himself and April. Donnie doesn't think mutants and humans are equal, Donnie truly believes that mutants are smaller or not as important as humans and his fear represents that visually by the way his vision of April quite literally looms over him.

Donnie doesn't think mutants are good enough. It's like the nerd not being good enough to hook up with the pretty, popular girl - reflecting back on what Donnie said earlier - ‘I'm worse than a nerd, I'm a freak.’ If we think of it on a ladder of ‘not being good enough’ he thinks being nerdy puts him below on that ladder, but right at the bottom, worse than being a nerd, is being a mutant. And that's why his vision of April is so ginormous. She's right at the top of that perceived hierarchy that Donnie has built up.

This vision of April calls Donnie an ‘ugly mutant freak’ it's unlikely April actually thinks this, but it's what Donnie thinks she does.

The next scene we see is a vision of a bunch of tiny April's kissing Casey.

I think it's noteworthy that the ‘ugly mutant freak’ part comes before the kissing Casey part. The two scenes are quite literally split into ‘Words’ and ‘Actions’. In the first scene, April has a sharp tongue that is used like a whip, going through Donnie's heart and subsequently breaking it.

‘To have a sharp tongue’ means being critical of someone, speaking in a way that is unkind though often clever. I think this shows that, over anything, it is April's words that break his heart more than her actions like kissing Casey. Mutants being seen as freaks is his actual biggest fear. He just doesn't want those fears to be confirmed - which is why that scene of April kissing Casey comes after.

This fear of humanities' dislike and rejection towards mutants existed before Casey came into the picture, he just became a threat and therefore added to Donnie's worries which is why Casey makes an appearance, but he isn't the main problem.

The first scene is what truly makes Donnie crack, he starts screaming, runs away, and shouts that he ‘doesn't want to hear anymore.’

In Season 3, an episode titled, ‘A Foot Too Big’ when Donnie starts to apologise for his behaviour, he says ‘I'm just… a mutant.’ The word ‘just’ implies that being a mutant is all Donnie has boiled himself down to, he doesn't think his other traits are worthwhile, like him being loyal, inventive, and funny because at the end of the day he thinks nobody will be able to see him outside of being a freak and therefore doesn’t care about other aspects of himself.

When April kisses Donnie at the end of this episode, he doesn't even seem to enjoy it like he usually does. Which is odd for Donnie, as he normally gets excited or gloats about being kissed by April to Casey. I know people say he's confused because April has a habit of leading both Donnie and Casey on, but I think the words she says right before she kisses him is what confuses him.

‘You're not just a mutant, Donnie, you're my mutant.’

The whole point of the episode is that Donnie is supposed to get a taste of his own medicine, where Bigfoot is following Donnie around. But Bigfoot is a monster. Donnie’s behaviour is being parallelled in a monster.

When Donnie is told, ‘now you know how April feels’ by Raph, he partly comes to the realisation that April feels like he is clingy and love bombs her with gifts, (Like how Bigfoot follows Donnie around and consistently makes Donnie soup) but Donnie also acknowledges that April is being followed around by something inhuman and that might play a part in making her uncomfortable.

If we, as the audience, are meant to look at Bigfoot as a parallel to Donnie, that should also include Bigfoot's other traits and the way other characters act toward her that prove Donnie feels ugly.

Bigfoot wants to look better and feels ugly. When she believes she is not good enough for Donnie, she asks April to help her give herself a ‘makeover’ before trying to show Donnie affection again.

Other characters, such as Leo and Casey, also make fun of how Bigfoot looks, with Casey asking, ‘You think she's his type?’ As a crude joke. Donnie has had his looks made fun of before, and his brothers seem to share similar sentiments that Donnie doesn't have a shot with April and thinks of his crush to be a waste of time - the other characters react the same way to Bigfoot's crush on Donnie.

And so when Donnie apologises to April, he not only feels the need to acknowledge his overbearing nature, but also to apologise for simply being the way he is, knowing she might feel embarrassed or uncomfortable that a ‘creature’ that has no shot with her is drooling over her and following her around.

After all, Donnie felt embarrassed when Bigfoot kissed him, and all of his peers laughed at him.

When Donnie was kissed in Target: April O’ Neil, it was directly after Donnie was thanked for his actions in saving April, and it made him feel good about himself in general, shouting ‘I looooove being a turtle!’ which is a rare instance of Donnie showing a positive attitude towards being how he is. Being loved in itself and being thanked for something understandable made him feel confident.

Donnie believes April likes Casey for being human, so when April says she likes him because he's mutant - for what he is, not who he is, it confuses him. Donnie thinks April doesn't care about who Casey is either, but Donnie thought he'd never be on equal grounds with Casey in terms of what he is, again, because he thinks mutants are lesser than.

He believes and everyone else around him believes that because he is a mutant he had no chance, at the beginning of the episode Raph said, ‘She's a girl, you're a giant talking turtle.’

Donnie believed who he was didn't matter because he thought what he was would make people dislike him.

And in April's words, who he is still doesn't matter, but she's showing a positive attitude towards him being a mutant. That's what confuses him so much.

April doesn't forgive Donnie’s apology for his obsessive behaviour, she forgives his apology for being different. April doesn’t say something like, ‘But you’re smart, loyal, determined,’ before kissing him, she says, ‘You’re my mutant’ before kissing him.

Donnie has never received positive comments from April about good aspects of his personality, or even comments about enjoying spending time with him - times Donnie has been kissed, hugged, and/or received comments of praise from April has been directly after acts of service where Donnie puts himself in danger for her wants/needs;

(Operation: Breakout, Season 1, in which Donnie goes on a solo mission to rescue April's father) When Donnie works tirelessly to resolve her wants/needs, (Donnie's several attempts to make retro-mutagen for her father) or when Donnie has literally almost died, (waking up after Donnie came close to dying in Dream Beavers, and after coming back post being molecularly scattered in ‘The Power Inside Her’)

This creates an extremely negative correlation in which receiving affection comes after self-sacrificing behaviour, putting her needs over his, or near death experiences, especially when you consider how Donnie's more tame and realistic attempts at affection are met with abandonment, dismissal, or odd looks.

When Donnie tries to offer hugs to April, she looks at him oddly, and Donnie quickly switches to ruffling her hair, and he seems to go stiff and looks anxious/awkward after. When Donnie calls her a nickname she agrees to ignore what was just said. When Donnie makes her a music box at the beginning of ‘A Foot Too Big’ she makes the excuse of needing to train and leaves Donnie by himself instead of addressing the issue if she didn't like the gift.

Hugs, nicknames, and gift-giving are met with negative responses that create negative feelings in himself as well.

Self sacrificing behaviour is met with positive reactions from April, as well as positive reactions from those around him as the action usually resolves some sort of problem (like Donnie rescuing April's father, the creation of Retro-mutagen) and even Splinter telling Donnie to ‘never give up hope’ in regards to pursuing April.

So Donnie now has two things to associate kisses/hugs with:

Self sacrificing behaviour.

Being a mutant.

And he doesn't understand.

I honestly think Don Vizioso is a physical manifestation of how Donnie feels. I always thought it to be a bit weird that a villain and a main character shared similar names, as Donnie has also been called ‘Don’ in the series as a nickname before.

Don Vizioso believed that mutants are freaks of nature that don't belong, a scientific mystery to be studied, which is scarily the same ideas that Donnie has about mutants.

Don Vizioso’s restaurant is the only building we see in the whole series with a ‘No Mutants’ sign. Donnie has a preconceived notion that the whole world is against mutants, in truth, barely anybody knows about them to say that’s true. All that hatred for what mutants are and the belief that mutants shouldn’t be accepted anywhere is all contained within Don Vizioso’s restaurant. Contained in Donnie’s mind.

I find it no coincidence that Donnie is the one to be put into a dehumanising situation and almost be dissected by Don Vizioso.

‘Vizioso’ translated into English, means things like depraved, vicious, immoral, and the next time Donnie has a run in with Vizioso, how is his actions perceived? Immoral. Vicious. He's quite literally going on a killing spree to face his own ideas, to confront Don Vizioso, his own anger and violence.

When Donnie is about to kill off Vizioso, Leo tells him to not lose sight of who he is, which makes Donnie pause.

Donnie believes mutants aren't ever going to be accepted by humans, that they're freaks. And nobody wants to believe that, he wants to erase those violent thoughts toward himself and other mutants by killing Don Vizioso, a manifestation of his own opinions - but if he kills, he is just going to prove what he thinks humans assume mutants are. Vicious monsters.

And that isn't who Donnie is, Leo reminds him of that. Maybe those negative thoughts of him being a freak won't go away, and maybe humans would actually think they're monsters if they ever got exposed - but if Donnie feeds into violent behaviours he's making those thoughts into true statements.

Donnie knows a killer isn't who he is, and in that moment Leo reminds him of that, he comes to terms with his mindset and realises he has the power to change how he thinks in a more healthy way, deciding not to kill Don Vizioso.

If you're part of a minority/marginalised group, you may struggle with things like internalised homophobia, racism, and ableism because of the way the society around you has built negative stereotypes around those groups. You may hate your own thoughts and hate the world for making you think that way.

It can be hard. If you act out in violence, unlike white, or straight, or able-bodied people, you are more likely to have your differences blamed for your violent behaviours. You feed into people’s stereotypes and negative ideas of certain groups unintentionally. If you struggle with internalised ableism, racism, homophobia/transphobia, the first step is coming to terms with your mindset, and finding a healthy way to accept who you are, and know that stereotypes and preconceived notions don't change you.

Never lose sight of who you are.

END SUMMARY:

2012 Donatello is a character with a complex and negative perception of who he is, with many things contributing to that fact.

At the end of the day, Donnie doesn’t seem to actively be after love or April as a person, rather simply a feeling of equality and confidence in general.

He wants to prove his thoughts that mutants are ugly wrong by gaining April as a girlfriend, aware that in society looks heavily contribute to having a romantic partner. Donnie seems to be afraid of humans rejecting mutants in general, but because April is the first human he has a personal relationship with, it’s shown through her.

As for equality, in relationships it's expected that you are treated equally and that no one is superior or inferior to the other, you both have equal say. Donnie is shown to feel that mutants are inferior and not good enough for humans, as shown by how much larger April is than him in his hallucination, and may also crave some sort of feeling of equality by getting into a relationship with someone he deems to be superior than him.

Donnie has also claimed April as some sort of thing to own, in the episode, ‘The Gauntlet’ by saying ‘There's a creature out there trying to hurt my April’ but apologetically changes it to just ‘April’ after he notices April's raised eyebrow at the choice of words. However, when April calls him ‘my mutant’ in ‘A Foot Too Big’ she doesn't stick around to see if he even likes it, or still wants to be in a potential relationship with her after the apology, quickly walking away.

And Donnie definitely doesn't seem to like it, being left confused and upset.

LEAVING NOTE : Thank you for reading, and I hope it was a bit more in - depth and well explained than the last analysis! I just want to say this isn't an attack on April’s character either - the writing isn't great in 2012, each character has noteworthy flaws and I don't think one character's behaviour is ultimately worse than another, including April's. Both her and Donnie are flawed, just like other characters, and I love them both.

Not a request just curious. What is your opinion on Raph? For 03 and 12 since I know you like him in the bay movies and 07.

I love all his versions! If Raph has one fan, it's me; if he has zero fans, I'm dead. I would defend him in absolutely everything. I will be there for him in his good and bad times!!

Jokes aside, Raph is always the 'hot-tempered' one, but in every version, he's loyal, brave, self-reliant, and soft at heart. He truly loves his family!

However, there’s always something about his character that I don’t quite love—it's when his anger goes too far, mostly because he struggles to manage his emotions. For instance, in the 2012 version, he was much rougher with Mikey, to the point where it sometimes felt more like outright bullying than playful brotherly teasing, at least in my opinion. At times, his temper came across as more rude than anything else. While I haven’t rewatched the show in a while, that was the impression I had when I first saw it.

Same goes for the 2003 version, and this is more of a ramble since the last time I rewatched the series was around 2021, but Raph was still pretty rough with Mikey here, too. However, 2003 Mikey was a lot cheekier and knew how to handle him better, so it didn’t stand out as much. Plus, this Raph was like the embodiment of recklessness. Still, he could read situations better, tone it down, and stop when asked or reasoned with—unlike the 2012 version, who, in my opinion, was more stubborn.

Jumping to 2018, I think Rise Raph is such a refreshing take on his character! He’s always looked out for his brothers, protected them, and had his caring moments in other versions, but here we get 'full-on mama hen' Raph, and I love it! This Raph is unapologetically tender and kind, hesitant to say anything that might hurt others, and much more mindful of the impact his words could have. He's just a little too silly, your honor.

Anyway, yeah, I love him in every version, but the 2007 Raph is my absolute favorite! I won’t even get into that because I might end up writing a whole essay, lol.

In my opinion, from what I have seen at least, most Raph simps I've interacted with are like really sweet and anxious people that REALLY NEED A HUG just like my boy Raph.

The Leo simps, as I said earlier, enjoy bullying him so much- and with that I mean, they're most times the kind of people that tease or bully their crush, but they care so much about him and love adding so much depth to his character.

The Donnie simps I know can't drop the color purple for ONE DANG SECOND, the color is everywhere all the time all at once, they seem very curious and are some of the ones that I see the most active in the fandom.

And Mikey simps are freaking wild, one minute they're the sweetest and the next they're jumping around the walls and scaring you, I love those.

T-May-NT Day 16: Favorite Episode

OK, THIS WAS A HARD CHOICE because, favorite episode?? Of any TMNT canon??? That's a tall order and I had so so many that I debated picking... however, there's one episode that I would always choose to watch as a kid, one that I still adore to this day, so I stuck with it without thinking too much about all of the other choices I could make because then I would never be able to pick just one.

Turtles in Space (Part 3): The Big House, from TMNT 2003! One of my favorite episodes of all time, there are just so many little moments from it that made it a childhood favorite, and it still holds up so well rewatching it now <3

I absolutely love Don's dorky little salute here; sweetheart you just got captured by aliens after surviving the vacuum of space, I don't think they're looking for a salute.

And then the fact that after the triceraton pushes Don both Leo and Raph immediately jump forward to defend him? PERFECTION, I love how protective those two are!!

"FLOOR WAX???" haha I thought that was so gross as a kid

These shock things are only used like twice in this whole episode. Guess who got it both times? So fitting for his character, honestly I love it.

*Giant muscled alien bully walks through the cafeteria* Raph (immediately): I'm gonna fight that guy Don (who already knows its inevitable): RAPH NO--

That's not exactly how it went but also yeah that's basically how it went

Also "green guy green guy!!" always cracked me up for no good reason

"I got a rock?" *visible brother judgement*

Also though this whole sequence shows all of the turtles so perfectly. The fact that they all looked at each other, knowing that they had all (well almost all) started thinking through and working out an escape plan, and then the subsequent way that they were each using something they brought to the table to form a plan (Raph timing the door, Don figuring out the smoke bomb, Leo putting it all together)? All so well done, I love this scene.

Speaking of which:

The fact that Don took one look at the floor wax through Mikey's vomit and said "I'm gonna make a bomb with a bit of dirt" is so hilarious to me. His little "I love it when I'm right" is also adorable.

Don't think I'm hating on Mikey, he was just waiting for his moment to shine! Seriously without him swiping that keycard they would have been toast.

The fact that the two idiots in the back literally forgot to make sure that their own plan was going to be carried out like come on guys

This moment.

And of course "SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOONS!!!"

I love this episode a lot, there's a whole lot more that I love from it but I digress; good episode.

Here's Raphael!

He's a Common Snapping Turtle and the Tallest of His Brothers and the Second Oldest!

He's quick the anger, but he doesn't always show it right away.. but in a moment he will suddenly snap!

Raph is irritated with Donnie being leader, feeling He should have took his place being the Second Oldest. But with his impulsive decisions His brother's and Splinter agreed he shouldn't be leader. Especially since he got hurt (Scar on his Shoulder) and almost got Mikey hurt in the process!

The only one's He gets lest angry at is Splinter and Gemma, and He's only really opened to Gemma (Gemma is technically her Universes version of Spike Lol)

Mikey is also The Brother he can Bully (not really bully but you know) but no one else can

With Leo He's disappointed that He backed down, of being leader but he keeps this to himself

Raphael also blames himself for Gemma's disappearce as He was the one closest to her when she fell into the portal

So it seemed like Leo and Raph at least had moments where they were either aware of the curse or explicitly trying to fight against it (see Leo freezing in the doorway of Donnie's lab at one point, I'm pretty sure Raph had at least one moment before the curse broke but I can't quite remember which one), but did Mikey have any that I'm missing? He was willing to go along with Donnie on an errand or whatever at the beginning, I know that much, even if his art was all weird (curse bringing out repressed anger, perhaps?), but it would somehow be more of a gut punch if Mikey was the one to not even notice that anything was up until the moment he broke out of the curse.

i think whats most important about the way that mikey responded to the curse was that his perspective on it was not as concrete as leo and raph's. like leo and raph as donnie's older brothers both had in some capacity this feeling of responsibility over him that mikey DIDN'T, and the curse really takes advantage of it (getting more insight into leo's relationship with donnie in ME and CW really compounds his role and how he's spent so long looking out for him and facilitating a relationship where donnie is more comfortable being uniquely vulnerable, while raph was more straightforward as the oldest and their protector). but mikey's resistance is a lot more passive and hard to pick up on, there's a reason he's not proactive until very late in the game.

really i think the moment in the kitchen is the only really mask off moment he has where he's independently aggressive, with no input from his other family, and that's just because donnie did something that would probably frustrate him on a NORMAL day and the curse just intensified those emotions by like a billion

really i think the absolute worst thing about it is that it takes advantage of mikey's impulsivity more than anything else. he's not calculated and reveling in the idea of vengeance for a perceived lifetime of annoyance like leo is. he doesn't think its a deep moral responsibility that needs to be corrected like raph does. mikey is a person who likes fun, who likes to turn his brain off, and sometimes that means he can be reckless, careless, and occasionally even mean! he's an empathetic person who's willing to correct himself when he oversteps boundaries, but when its for someone the curse is twisting him to hate, why would he?

it's the thrill of getting away with it, with being in on the "joke". he laughs while leo does the really nasty shit and usually only goes out of his way to get in on it when leo's the one encouraging him, because early on he sees most of the goading and bullying as actual harmless fun, and later on he hates donnie enough to revel in it when he has the momentum with other people who are in on the joke. mikey on his own really would not be as vicious, and its why you can even see it in little ways- he lies after letting donnie out of the closet but he does seem confused and hurt by his reaction. when they go to the movies without him, he makes up the lie about genuinely forgetting in an effort to protect his feelings. he hugs him after he fixes the oven; the "its ok!! we werent mad" text message was a lie but it was similarly one to make him feel better (while the "good" after indicates how little he actually cares beyond that, not even trying to entertain him)

and when mikey isn't actively taking fun in hurting donnie, he isn't acknowledging him at all. he finds torment for the sake of it to be annoying, and he loses his patience/gets bored with it eventually-- and then he doesn't treat donnie like anything but a broken toy to be thrown away. when donnie isn't fun for him, he isn't anything. its the fact that he's apathetic in the end that hurts donnie the most.

How do the dynamic change between them when they discover Leo is their brother? How do Raph and Donnie react when they find out it wasnt Leon bullying Mikey?

They react...not well. It's very much so an "Oh shit we fucked up really bad this time" moment, especially because they find out as they are in the middle of beating him up. This is only made worse by the fact that Mikey is furious at them for hurting his friend that they have hated for years and that he has told repeatedly to leave alone.

....which is made even worse by a teacher appearing as soon as this information sinks in for them, and now Raph is holding a bloodied and bruised Leon up by just his wrist, Donnie's fists are covered in Leon's blood, and Mikey is standing off to the side with enough rage to rival Ares himself. Yikes.

2. How do the dynamics change between them when they discover Leo is their brother?

It's just pure guilt for the older Hamatos. They feel absolutely miserable that they've hated on someone who is legitimately their family, in the same way that they are family to each other.

Mikey gets a lot clinger to Leon and basically refuses to leave his side, Raph is just guilty all the time and gets Leon literally anything he ever wants all the time (and Leon absolutely abuses this, he's pissed about the years of rivalry and he wants at least some revenge)

As for Donnie? He wants nothing to do with this situation, he hates everything about it and wants Leon out of their lives. He's convinced this is some kind of long con and is determined to dig up the truth, no matter what.

3. Does Raph discover that Leo not just wants that scholarship, but really needs it?

He does eventually, which does not help with his whole guilt situation. However, Donnie starts telling Raph about his whole theory, and while Raph wanted to stay out of it at first, the more evidence Donnie gathers, the more Raph starts to doubt what he's been told.

This is more directed to 2012 version, but I get so peeved when Mikey is considered the ‘dumb’ one or the ‘screw up’ and gets bullied for it. Like I get he does have moments (a lot of moments actually) where he does stupid stuff and gets him and the others in trouble, but dang, the things where nothing is his fault like I saw an episode where he was legit just cleaning and Donnie and Casey I think were fighting and they knocked into Mikey where the dude fell down the stairs and dropped like a bucket or something. AND LEO AND RAPH ARE THE ONES GETTING PISSY AT MIKEY??? LIKE WHAT?! I also don’t like the whole Donnie and April thing in 2012 and in the Bayverse movie but with Mikey and April.

Probably a drawing for the 2003 show when I was 7. I was very artistic as a child so it wouldn’t surprise me if I drew one of the turtles (probably Raph)

My fics!!

Lately I’ve been writing a lot of Leo for the Rise version, and I’ve been mostly drawing Leo and Donnie from the Rise version as well. (Plus OC’s but we won’t count them)

Basically writing the brotherly bonds of the boys and of course drawing memes of them with my OC’s.

Right now, I’m only writing and drawing for Rise. But honestly, I’m kinda tempted to write for 2007 & 2012 in the future.

Raph: *Walks on stage* So, you all like to bully me with how I’m bad with animals. But I’m here to proof you all wrong!

Leo: I mean, Mayhem did scratch you in the face right when we first met.

Raph: He was scared!

Leo: Mhm, suuuure.

Raph: I’ll show y’all that I’m truly at one with the animals by putting a leash on Mayhem!

April: *Giggles* Really? Good luck with that. *Hands Raph the leash*

Raph: You will all regret calling me a skunk that chases away every animal!

Mayhem: *Looks at leash puzzled*

Raph: Come ‘ere, lil’ guy~ *Puts a treat behind the leash opening* You’ll get a yummy snack~!

Mayhem: :o! . . . >:I

Raph: I’m not scary~

Mayhem: *Curiously steps closer*

What’s your opinion on people who think 2012 raph is an abusive bully? I think personally they are only children and it shows. People with siblings see this as normal.

I think that people with an opinion on any type of Hamato abuse in the show either haven’t done proper research on the show, they have a rough family life that twists it, or they don’t have siblings.

Since you opened the door for me to get ranty, Imma be a little ranty about more than simple TMNT data.

Now, some people DO have siblings and see this show as abusive, but that’s because of a number of other reasons.

The biggest problem, to me, is the fandom itself.

Let me explain:

You go outside for the first time. When you ask what color the grass is, your entire neighborhood says, “orange.” You accept this as correct, and now you would see all grass as orange. You could hear this for weeks before leaving the neighborhood. At the store, someone tells you, “Actually, it’s green, and here’s why.”

And here you hesitate.

Because wouldn’t that mean your neighbors are wrong? After they all believe it? Everyone says grass is orange. How dare this person say otherwise. You aren’t stupid. You know grass is orange. They’re attacking you and your neighbors. Why would you listen to them?

Likely, you wouldn’t believe them. You’d be more inclined to assume that what you always hear is correct. You would continue to spread what everyone says because it’s what you heard.

This is similar to how people see Mikey. 2012TMNT seasons and certain episodes were hard for me to find when I started looking for the show. Many people rely on the fandom more than show for opinions on it. Negative clips get taken out of context and the favorite moments like Parasitica are blown up until it’s all the fandom can see. I’ve spoken to people who write fanfics about the show, but haven’t seen past the second season.

They rely on the fandom to write, so if the fandom and their friends preaches that Mikey is abused and Raph is the abuser, why would they believe otherwise?

(It’s funny, how Mikey has been ‘abused’ by Raph for years, and yet, he never hesitates to do all of the things that will tick his brother off. He does not waste a moment pushing the buttons of the one person that he ‘fears’ more than anyone else, and turns to his ‘abuser’ before any of his other family members when he’s upset and looking for comfort. Even more interesting, is that the ‘abuser’ will not hesitate to help and comfort the brother that he ‘takes pride in hurting’.)

Everyone who has talked bad about the show has had strings for me to pull at. Not one “Mikey is abused” fan has made a solid argument as to why Mikey feels unloved and unwanted. When they talk about Raph, they often default to- well, Raph is mean to Mikey and that makes him upset. But he doesn’t stand up for himself, so he must be depressed and sad and I’m depressed that my life is bad so if you say he’s not than you’re attacking me. (True story)

It’s exhausting. I don’t like these kind of arguements. Because there’s a different between me saying that a character who is not you and does not share your exact thoughts and feels as well as not knowing the trauma of your home life is not depressed and me saying you are not depressed. Me saying a character is not depressed does not make your feelings any less real.

It just means that the character that I am analyzing from a show that has nothing to do with you in its creation isn’t depressed.

As well as saying that the character that I am analyzing from a show that has nothing to do with you in its creation isn’t abused.

Maybe it isn’t that Mikey doesn’t stand up for himself. (He does.)

Maybe, more often than not, there’s nothing to stand up to.

And, no, I’m not saying you can’t headcanon Mikey as depressed. Or convince the fandom that he’s abused.

I’m saying that if you truly believe that he is, you better be able to give me a cohesive debate and plenty of picture proof that he feels unloved and unwanted or has any depression symptoms laced through the show. And you should also be ready to have me attack that with my own opinion to defend my beliefs.

I have nothing against someone who says Raph is abusive. I’m sure they have their reasons and I’m sympathetic to the trauma and respect whatever reasoning that they give.

I respect them and their right to opinion. I have nothing against that person. I’m not against any person.

I’m against, to quote 2018Leon, “Everything you stand for.”
