1. raph

c’mon, did you expect anyone else?

being a middle child with three brothers, raph grew up sharing everything he had—his food, his clothes, his personal space. so when he finds someone he has feelings for, he makes a point that he’s not going to share with anyone.

his brothers prefer to take more subtle, graceful methods of claiming their s/os when they feel threatened. raphael does not have a subtle bone in his body.

if someone tries to hit on you while he’s there, he will physically put himself in between the two of you, glaring down at his prey target until they take the hint (and probably flexing his crossed arms as he does so. he doesnt do all of that lifting for nothing).

vern tried to chat you up, once, when you first met. raph swiftly handled it, and you’re not exactly sure what was said, but vern now makes a point to keep a very conservative amount of space between you and him at all times.

a lot of his jealousy comes from insecurity—he definitely thinks you could do better, find someone you could actually walk around with, show off to your friends and go on vacations with.

so how does he cope? by proving his indispensability to you. when you date raph, you don’t lift a finger. need something from the top cabinet? he’s got it in his hands before you even have to ask. want to see a sold out concert? how convenient, he just managed to find some floor seats for you and your friends

don’t ask how he got them, it’s really best for everyone if you don’t actually know (both legally and ethically speaking).

asking someone else for help (god forbid you ask vern or one of his brothers, especially leo) will probably end up in some icy silent treatment and very short yes/no answers to questions that can only be cured by insistent apologies and lots of kisses

2. mikey

oh, our beloved little mikey

mikey spouts confidence, but much like raphael, he is deeply afraid that you’ll leave him for someone whose complexion is a little less green

while raph’s jealousy is defensive, mikey’s is pleading. he needs a lot of verbal reassurance that you’re his, nobody else’s

even when he’s not feeling jealous or insecure about the relationship, he just likes to hear you say it—and once you do, he’ll believe it wholeheartedly, all doubts and anxieties set aside (for the time being, at least)

when you’re around others (and even when you’re not) mikey is extremely physically affectionate, and probably will mention to anyone who will listen in a very unsubtle manner that the two of you are dating and really, really happy together, thank you very much

if you’re sitting, you’re sitting on his lap (or so close that you might as well be). if you’re standing, you can bet that he’s got an arm slung around your waist or your shoulder—just so everyone in the room is clear who you came with and who you’re leaving with

3. donnie

donnie’s jealousy is quiet. he’s much less outward about his feelings of jealousy than raph or mikey, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

when you mention a creepy guy from one of your classes getting a little too close for your comfort, he’ll nod and empathize; little do you know, he’s got the guy’s social security number, address, and name of his childhood pet pulled up on his laptop within seconds.

mysteriously, he doesn’t really show up for class anymore. rumours float around about some pretty shady things hes done being sent to the dean, president, and every RA on campus.

you confront donnie, and he just shrugs innocently. huh, weird, guess it’s a good thing you guys don’t hang out anymore then right? and then he’ll change the subject, but the triumphant gleam in his eye doesn’t go unnoticed

if someone starts to get flirtatious with you while donnie’s around though? all bets are off.

standing at 6’8 and made of pure lean muscle, donnie is fully aware of how intimidating he is, and it radiates off of him.

all it takes is one glare, leering from over your shoulder, and suddenly the person trying to flirt with you has some very important business to handle on the opposite side of the room for the rest of the night.

when you turn around to see donnie standing behind you, one hand on the small of your back, he’s back to his relaxed, smiley self

4. leo

leo is definitely the least jealous of his brothers. he’s confident, bordering on arrogant, and knows what he brings to the table.

i mean, c’mon. the barista who wrote their number on your coffee cup may be cute and share your taste in music, but how many times have they saved new york from an alien invasion? can they do anything to protect you in the event of a foot clan takeover?

didn’t think so.

communicating and trust are monumental to leonardo. right off the bat, he’s very straightforward about his intentions with you, and expects the same level of loyalty from his partner

leo’s trust isn’t easily earned so if he trusts you, then he does so completely and wholeheartedly. if you say that you and someone else are just friends, then he won’t think twice about it

that’s not to say he never gets jealous though. he’s just much more lowkey about it than the others

if you mention offhand being catcalled on your way to the lair one night, you’ll have a private escort for the foreseeable future

hes not big on pda, but you can bet that if he catches someone else’s scent on you, especially another guy, he’ll be extra cuddly when he sees you

he’ll for sure try to play it off though and subtly give you something that smells like him. oh, you seem cold, here’s one of his hoodies that he conveniently had on hand. go ahead and put it on. he’s just looking out for you, no ulterior motives here.

Hello! I'm having a bit of a rough time so I thought I'd send this ask. What would the turtles be like with a S/O that has anxiety, depression and PTSD? How would they help them if their depression is bad enough that on some days they can't get out of bed, forget to eat, etc? Bonus if S/O is plus-sized/kinda chubby and insecure about it.

So since I’m doing all the boys, each mental illness/self-image issue will be separated by turtle. I hope that’s okay!

• The first time this happened, Leo caught you with your head in the refrigerator picking at some leftovers:

• “Nightmares?” The blue turtle asked, sleep lacing his voice.

• “Nightmares.” You nodded.

• You two finished some leftover spaghetti, then trudged back to Leo’s room, spending the rest of the night under the covers watching TNTL videos.

• This became a normal occurrence, talks eventually getting deeper:

• “It’s just… I feel so stupid sometimes. It happened years ago. Why do I still think about it almost every day?” You sighed as you laid on the blue clad turtle’s plastron.

• Leo shrugged. “I dunno, it’s more annoying than traumatic now.”

• There’s a pause when Leo took your hand in his own.

• “But I don’t think you’re stupid for it.”

Raph // Anxiety

• Being the oldest in the family causes a lot of anxiety, especially in the Hamato household.

• You were also stressed being the oldest sibling as well. One of your siblings was in the hospital, and although it was just for a broken leg, it had you worried.

• Sleeping was a battle. One night, you were in the lair in Raph’s room.

• You slowly watched the clock tick by.

• 11PM… 12PM… 1PM.

• And you were still tossing and turning.

• Eventually, you started to think about your sibling and if it was right for you to be with your boyfriend rather than being in the hospital with them.

• It didn’t take long for the tears to start flowing as you had convinced yourself that you were a bad sibling.

• The snapping turtle eventually noticed your sadness and sleepily asked you what was wrong.

• “I should be with them, not here.” You said tearfully. “What if something happens? What if they dropped the remote to contact the nurse? What if—”

• “(Y/N), (Y/N)… don’t worry so much. They’re gonna be fine.” Raph tried to quell your anxiety.

• “But what if—”

• “Ya’ can’t live a life on ‘what if’s, (Y/N).” He interrupted you, speaking gently. “I know how you feel. You think I’m never worried about these knuckle heads? Ya’ just gotta trust them and the doctors.”

Mikey // Depression

• Despite being medicated, there were moments when you would have a depressive episode.

• This consisted of staying at home, ignoring texts to hang out, not showering for days at a time, and overeating while watching a random Netflix Original.

• Mikey respected that you sometimes needed time away, although he was naturally clingy.

• After about three days, he’ll come visit you.

• It’s always a gamble with you. You either let him in graciously, or simply act like he’s not there.

• When you would let him in, he would bring snacks and DVDs of your favorite movies.

• Most of the time, you two would huddle under a blanket and watch those DVDs for hours.

• Other times, he would beckon you to come outside. And when you obliged, you two usually had a good time exploring New York and the Hidden City.

• When you were out of your funk, you were back to being physically affectionate.

• You were always grateful for your little orange weirdo.

• “We’ve been walking for a while. Are you hungry?” Donnie asked you as the two of you walked the streets of New York City.

• “I mean… are you hungry?” You asked bashfully.

• Donnie shrugged. “Not especially.”

• You shook your head. “I’m good, then.”

• It took Donnie a couple of minutes to become curious as to why you only wanted to eat when he was eating.

• “Why didn’t you want to eat?” He asked out of the blue.

• You sighed and shook your head again. “It’s nothing, Dee.”

• “No,” the purple clad turtle stopped walking, “I wanna know.”

• “Well… I dunno, it’s embarrassing.” You thought about how to formulate your words to help him understand. “When people see us eating together, they’ll just think that we’re hungry. But when I’m the only one eating…”

• Your words trailed off, and it took Donnie several seconds to finally understand what you’d meant.

• “That’s nonsense.”

• “Yeah, well, that’s how people will see us: a guy and his fatass girlfriend.”

• To say the turtle was angry at the absurdity of the world’s mentality on plus sized people was an understatement.

• He quickly took hold of your hand and pulled you back to the hotdog stand you’d just passed.

• “Two plain hotdogs, please. And some ketchup on the side.” Donnie told the vendor.

• He had really meant that he wasn’t hungry and only ended up finishing about half of the hotdog, but your comfortability meant more to him.

• After the meal, you started walking again before you took hold of Donnie’s bicep.

• “I really appreciate that, babe. I mean it.” You rested your head on his shoulder.

• The turtle leaned his head so it was on top of yours. “Anything for you.”

Specifically my promise of how the boys look whrn they start travling with ash...and them with their starters!

Now yes Im aware that none of their starters are the Kanto starters. Im also aware that the begining of the anime happens around when gen 1 was the only one out and they were plotting gen 2 BUT! This is an au taking place 9 gens later with all of them being turtles from diffrent gens I think I can bend the rules here.

Now why I chose ehat I did as their starters and how they got them. Now being diffrent ages (except Donnie and Leo) they all got their starters at diffrent times and will go in order of age

Raph and Litten: I chose Litten because Incinaroar is very much wrestling thing and Raph being highly invested with wrestling would deffinatly pick one as his starter if he had the ability to! Plus having a partner he doesnt have to worry about rough housing with would probably be a relife. (I know he could rough house with most if not all of them but Incinaroar seemed like the best one to do that with.)

Prof. Oak probably pulled some strings and got paper work together for the boys to have nonkanto starters because the boys admitted it felt wrong to have Kanto starters. He kinda agreed with Leo being well a squirtle. It probably took a lot of phone calls and paper work for him and them to get these 4 nonkanto starters in Kanto.

Leo and Sprigatito: like raph I chose because of Sprigatitos final evo invoking something leo's intrested in. In this case its Leo's love of magic and magicians. Meowscarada is very much a jester/magician in design which fits with this. It also to some degree fits Leo's trickster nature as all is not what it seems with it. (Also yes I did give leo a female starter...but its because I spun a wheel and he got lucky all the rest of em got boys.)

Donnie and Popplio: honestly I had a bit of trouble choosing between popplio and the many grass type starters. Ultimatly I chose Popplio due to two reasons. Reason one is that popplio very much has an opera singer vibe after its a primarina which I thought fit with Donnie's theater kid vibes. The other of which is donnie is practical and a fire type who knows he wont always be with leo and raph (who are both water types) to put out fires...

Mikey and Fenniken: another tough decision mon for one of the turtles. I chose fenniken due to the fact its well based off wizards and stuff in its final evo and mikey is the most powerful mystic warrior. However this wadnt the only reason ultimatly you see several psychic type pokemon have been noted to read peoples emotions not just their minds, which people dont exactly think about their emotions so. Which I thought itd be cool if he got an empath Delphox as a partner.

Though uh yes they are a bit worried about the grass type turtle having a fire fox as a starter but relax by reminding themselves Mikey eventually will become a ground type...

And yes the boys themselves will eventually evolve, except donnie but hes a species that cant evolve, Raph will eventually be a shiny (yes he is shiny) Dreadnaw, Leo will eventually be a wartortle (and grab an everstone to not become blastoise), and Mikey will become a grottle then torterra. However when and why they evolve is diffrent...mikey takes the longest not cause hes the youngest but because he doesnt feel ready to evolve for the longest time...and yeah leo will never become a blastoise because being a wartortle of all pokemon species feels the most right to him...raph litterally cannot evolve beyond Dreadnaw so...

On that note yall remeber me mentioning they cant go in pokeballs? Yeah this means legally they cant usethemselves as pokemon in offical battles like gym battles turnament or even offical contest! If they want a pokemon of their own type to use in one they have to go catch one.

Now Im going to go work on the pokemon they are going to catch over this anime journy and why they were chosen and how they joined.

Also draw their looks for every region post Jhoto (not going to draw them post evolution because I like drawing them as a group for these sorts of things so its generally going to be a look change before next region...except Jhoto because it was post Jhoto when that trend started)

Mikey heard of the whole baby shower thing a long time ago it was mentioned off hand a lot in just all kinds of media he consumed mostly the chick flicks he would watch with Von and April during their girls nights. They both sort of filled him in on the concept and idea of it. Von's answer was of course very much like Von a very cut dry explanation on what the idea of one was. April's? sounded more sociable and fun like she been to one before. Which made sense to Mikey. Even if Von was human before she got mutated she never really lived a life like April herself has. Hell Mikey felt he could place a bet on the fact Von had even less experience with human like stuff than him and his brothers. Least they had some friends and even held parties like their Christmas get together a few years ago where they had guest from all over the place join them. Poor Von. Mikey knows she not the usual type to be seen as fun cause of how she comes off but Mikey thought Von was one of the most fun people to hang out with.

Long as she wasn't interviewing him on his experience of being a mutant. On being a battle nexus champion? oh sure he'll talk here ears off on that.

Must not be easy to feel connected when you also were sort of isolated from stuff like that for years. He guess that would explain her dry response on what a baby shower was like something she would never be part of. No different than when she FINALLY explained the whole butterflies drinking blood thing to him. It was all just facts and information she had. Though unlike that because she manged to squeeze out that more fun side of hers out at the time. Donnie and Von had been trying for a long time. Donnie mentioned his dream to Mikey so long ago and Mikey always felt like Donnie would make a great dad and well he felt the same on Von being a mother. Sure to some Von seemed cool and distance but Von was very maternal deep down as well. She was supportive, empathic and her love was always unconditional. She was kind of the first person Mikey told his confusions towards after all. When it came to how Mikey felt when it came to his gender.

Von looked at him like he was telling her his name, that sometimes he didn't always feel like a guy sometimes he liked to be feminine. Mikey liked to wear pink things, he liked make up and nail polish and indulging in things that may seem more like a girl would enjoy like the enjoyment of stupid romance movies. And not once did Von seem to think anything of it she kind of fed into it if anything and eventually? he found himself okay with how he saw himself enough to tell his brothers even. That felt pretty motherly to him? accept your child as they were and making them feel they can be that even? Supporting this idea so Mikey could find his grounding on the though? Mikey really did think they be good parents to whoever that ugly alien thing from the photo Donnie shared with them would end up being.

Which was why he may gone over board on the party planning. Feeling they had to cram in every thing possible into the one party alone. Look when else were they gonna get to throw a baby shower? Even if it seemed like Casey and Raph had a touch of baby fever themselves? he doubts they would let him do it for them. Raph might smack him for the thought. Might be way he was keeping his distance through out the whole fun. Mikey noted when he had lifted his head up from his bowl of water all three pacifiers in his mouth. Smirking brightly he was on a high from all his wins from the night. Meaning his brothers were going to hate him for the next couple of months when he would start to brag about it. Spitting them out hands above his head "That's right I aint just a battle nexus champion I am also a champion at all things!" Mikey beams happily when he eyes Von over on the couch with Raph. He saw the gift bag in her hand and let his beak fall open.

"Hey no fair Raph!" Mikey near exclaims on the top of his lungs over the sight as if he had caught the pair of them committing some unforgivable crime. Which they had in Mikey's book at least that is. He fixed them with a glare. "I can't believe you two! just cause he's your bestie Vonnie mean he should get to give you his gift first!" The orange banded turtle near whined before looking at his older brother "For shame Raphie, imma tell Casey!"

Ignoring Raphael questioning why he would bring this up to Casey Mikey took off to where they had set all their gifts up for Von to open later. If Raph could give his gift to her then so could Mikey. He decided moving to join them on the couch sitting on Von's left side now before he stuck out his tongue to Raphael. "Rude!" He switched his attention to the mother to be and smiling. "I hope you like it Von, I got help with it clearly but still counts as a gift I feel" Mikey mentioned as he hands over his own gift box, his name written out on the top of the wrapping paper to make it clear it was from Mikey in the first place. He seemed more excited about her opening the gift than Von might have and nearly ripping the paper himself but he behaved for the time being.

"It's a mobile!" He states when it was finally free from its container, decorated with sea shells, and sea glass strung up on old pipes. That being the bit he needed help with so Donnie knew what his gift was at least since he needed help welding the metal pipes for the framing of his gift. "I figure ya live by the ocean so it should be ocean themed oh and! for Donnie" He points out the small Ariel figure in the center with the prince of the film. "You just know Donnie's gonna teach her science and to love that movie so figure I help" he slightly kidding with his remark, well he might not be kidding at all in truth. Taking it to hold it up he gently pushes it letting the shells, and glass tap against each other softly to make a low little jiggling sound. "I shall some humans made wind chimes with the shells and got the idea from that. So it won't break or anything don't gotta worry about that. "Think she'll like it?"

I wasn’t sure if you were asked this. Since Donnie is your favorite turtle and this for 03 what’s your opinion on raph?

Okay, I'm sorry that it took me quite a while to get around to this, anon; things came up, and I hope you understand.

I think 2003 Raph is great! He has a lot of depth to him, and you can see his personality come out in really interesting ways when you might not expect it on the surface. While I'm no big fan of Leo-Raph conflicts, I do think there are times it's put to really good use in general, and that the writers do both of them justice. City at War is a really great example of this, where you can see both sides of the argument. Raph's stance on the gang war is a really fascinating contrast to some of his counterparts-- I'm thinking specifically about 2007 Raph/Nightwatcher-- and says a lot about him as an individual. The episodes dealing with Leo's PTSD in s4 may not be my favorites, but I also think having Raph empathize with Leo's behavior during that span of time was a really excellent decision, and it plays a really nice contrast to the fact that they were clashing earlier in that same character arc. (It also meshes with their dynamic in both Tales of Leo and the Green Man, which is nice to see seasons after the fact.)

Obviously I love seeing him interact with Don, but we don't get a ton of that on screen. I do think their personalities mesh in a really great way, and it would have been nice to see more, but at least we have H.A.T.E. Even though it's never spelled out, it really does come across that Raph's protective streak is in full swing where Donnie in particular is concerned; Bad Day might be the most interesting example of this, where Don feels like what's happened is his fault, and Raph is trying to tell him it's not. (I'm also the person who said that Don probably sided with Raph in City at War, since it looked like he was getting up to leave with him just before Karai entered the picture.)

In spite of theirs being a fairly early conflict, I don't really have a lot to say about Raph and Mikey. I'm glad that the series didn't belabor that side of things between them, but it was definitely an important character moment for Raph, allowing him to grow from there on out. Their interactions in The Big Brawl paint an interesting picture of their relationship after the fact-- that some of the frustration is still there, and can be exploited-- and given Mikey's behavior where the tournament is concerned, I can understand why the writers chose to play Grudge Match off the way they did. That episode wasn't my favorite characterization choice on anyone's parts, but the idea that Raph, Don and Splinter are just hanging out together off screen is really funny to me.

2k3 just did fantastic character work with all of the leads, and Raph is no exception.

I need a TMNT Michelangelo hug. I screwed up on some things now the overwhelming anxiety doesn't want me to fix it. I'm gonna write a small oneshot from my Mikey The Lifegiver AU with Raphael and Donatello struggling to work with the fallout powers that came with their new spiritual connections to Mikey, with Raph being empathic and volatile, Donnie translating energy into words and being too logical, Mikey trying to help and teach and overloading himself into epileptic seizures and autistic meltdowns, Leo and Splinter serving as anchors and guides.

...it could help me work past my guilt. Then I can write more of The Brightest Fire without guilt over describing 2003 Splinter's bizarre neglectful tough love treatment of Michelangelo after the first realizations that little Mike had psionics.

Plus I need an explanation for all those smacks to the head from his brothers in canon so I can use it in the fic.

The new psychologist wants to help me get to that Zen state where I can emotionally detach myself from my trauma when telling the story. Being abused, manipulated, gaslighted, tricked, betrayed, driven to suicidal thoughts, then watching the abusers spin it around and project onto me as being the harmful one to them has been a fascinating study in mindfuckery. My fiction would certainly reflect my psychological fascination.

Random Into The Neon Rambles (Angsty 2012 Universe Stuff. I mean seriously sad, I cried writing it.)

So I've had the WORST brain fog lately (we keep intending to get a Covid test but it's been over a week and a half now since my breathing became like Just Swam Up From The Bottom Of The Pool But That All The Time and it still hasn't happened yet so IDK at this point, it's dependent on the cleaning schedules) and haven't been able to write SHIT so here's some completely word-vomit rambles about this AU.

April and Casey are still alive in the 2012 universe, but of course the boys died at 19 and I headcanon that they turned 19 in Season 4 and were 19 through all of Season 5 so that means Splinter is dead. The Mutanimals actually moved into the lair and take very good care of it, they set up a memorial to the boys right beside the one for Splinter. April and Casey see them often, Leatherhead took over the main care of Ice Cream Kitty, and they're all trying to get by. April's dad has his hands full these days, trying to be a grief counselor for all of them, and it's difficult because it's not his specialty. At this point he's always on the lookout for therapists and psychiatrists who are either mutant-friendly or, more ideally, mutants themselves.

There's actually quite a bit of focus now on finding and helping other mutants. The reason for the boys deaths was kind of the last Big Thing to happen, so there's not a lot of combat to do in the years following. The occasional alien issue, but April has been practicing and growing her powers with a focus that Casey likes to think is her way of honoring the turtles, specifically Leo and Donnie really, and The Mutanimals have been too.

The boys were alone together when they died. Partly by their own design, making sure no-one else got hurt... or worse.

They knew there was a strong chance they wouldn't make it out this time.

So Earth is well-protected by a powerful, grieving telekenetic/psychic/empath/ninja/general badass alongside a group of kick-ass mutant, a grieving Salamadarian soldier who keeps Raph's mask on her whenever she patrols, a grieving basically-son who's like 10 feet tall and can crush practically any enemy with his mace, a grieving best friend who's determined to carry both Mikey's kindness and ferocity with him always, a grieving teen who just lost some of the first people to truly help him after being kicked out for his mutation, and of course, a grieving big sister who lost her brothers the same way she lost her father and mother: before she could truly know them.

Yes, Karai knew the boys for a few years. But she never knew them outside of War. She never knew them in casual settings, she never even thought to try when they were alive. Now not only are they gone, but the last people who knew her father are, too. April tries to share stories of Splinter, but she can't tell Karai what he was like on birthdays. She can't tell her what he was like as a father, not just to teens, but through childhoods. Karai lost the last of her family before she could even fully appreciate finding them. She's trying, now. She helps a lot with the efforts to find and help mutants who have nowhere else to go. She takes a lot of them into her reformed Foot Clan, trains them to be able to defend themselves, and uses the vast network of international resources for anything that can help. She does it in remembrance of her father, who raised four little mutants as his sons, and those four sons, who accepted her and loved her even after she did horrible things to them more than once, who showed her there was a way beyond The Shredder's and helped her to be free of him.

April tries to find them sometimes. She never learned that kind of thing from Splinter, and her powers actually make it harder to connect to the spirit world sometimes. It's a different energy, one she isn't used to, and she has no teacher. She's felt, at most, a comforting presence, the faintest tough of a familiar paw, but nothing from the boys themselves. She can only hope that Splinter's assurance means they're okay, wherever they are in the universe.

Ice Cream Kitty was very confused for a while. She would yowl and yowl for Mikey. She would climb out of the freezer and drag herself to his room to look for him. At some point they put Mikey's mask in there with her, and a few of his comics. It helped.

They could all tell when she understood. That day, instead of finding her in his room after she escaped, she dragged herself to April in the dojo and meowed sadly until April held her. April cried. Ice Cream Kitty didn't make a peep. April felt the sadness of the kitty more strongly than the cold or stickiness of the ice cream in her arms.

It's been less time for them. The boys are 10 at this point in Into The Neon, for them it's been half the time. 5 years. April is in college, community college. She's not sure what she wants to go into. She thought biomedical for a while, but she kept wanting to ask Donnie for help when she got stuck.

She dropped the class.

Casey is mostly working with The Mutanimals. Leatherhead actually keeps trying to get him to take a break from it, concerned about how much he throws himself into battle. Casey is working on it. He had a breakthrough recently. He has Survivor's Guilt. The boys told him and April to go and convince any stragglers to evacuate, and they did. He wished he'd stayed. He knows he couldn't have stopped what happened, but his last interaction with any of them was a quick nod and a 'Got it.'

He believed they'd come back. Really. He knows April didn't, and tried to assure her. "Those guys are unkillable," he'd said. "If space aliens and Super Shredders couldn't get them, nothin' can!"

He remembers falling to his knees when they came back to the wreckage and saying "Just had to prove me wrong, didn't you?" It was the hollowest he'd ever felt, and he doesn't really remember the words like they came from him. He just remembers hearing them in his voice, distant and far away while he waited for someone to move, cough, shout at him to help them up already, anything.

They were buried on the farm, of course, next to their father. Doctor Cluckingsworth actually protects the graves from the other chickens, and when the others come to visit she usually comes by with some flowers she picked for them. She really only knew Mikey very well, but Mikey loved his brothers, and she remembers that.

The worst part was how peaceful everything became after. April was so angry that they didn't get to see it. That she's living in a world where, slowly, mutants are more able to be known and exist, where there's not a constant threat, where there's chances for harmless fun and just being happy, and they can't be there for it. When they announced a live-action reboot of Crognard she blew up the TV without even meaning to. She just saw it and thought 'I gotta tell Mikey' and then it was obliterated and she was sobbing in her dad's arms.

Casey actually does have something he's considering. He's been the one trying to keep the old vehicles in shape, and he thinks maybe he could be a mechanic or some kind of engineer. He thinks Donnie would laugh about the engineer thing because of all the math that takes, but he's gotten better at it. He has to use Donnie's old blueprints a lot to make sure he's not breaking The Shellraizer or The Party Wagon or the go-karts or anything else while trying to repair it, and you can't really pour over Donnie's stuff and work on the same things without absorbing a little. He's not a whiz by any means, can't do even a quarter what Donnie could, but they work together well. He remembers that every time he repairs a new hole Slash made by accident, or something Mondo accidentally ripped our with his tail while skating past, or anything like that. He remembers working on the hot rod in the barn with Donnie and wishes they made more wild things with each other instead of fighting all the time. He liked that Donnie matched his energy, could go toe-to-toe with him, that they could get into awful fights and rip each other apart verbally and it didn't really matter to either of them. He liked Raph for the same reason. And he liked Leo because he seemed all calm and cool but you could stoke a real fire out of him, and he liked Mikey for a similar reason-

He cries a lot while he's doing these repairs. It's a safe place to do it, and if any of the others have noticed (they have) they don't mention it. They never interrupt him, though he knows April is keeping a psychic eye on him most of the time. Whatever. He's keeping a (regular) eye on her all the time too. At least when he cries over their lost friends, it doesn't have a chance of rattling half the city like they're sitting on a fault line.

Chompy still refuses to fall asleep unless Mona is holding him and she has Raph's mask out. Chompy snuggled his face against it. Slash watches him when Mona can't, because for a while they were deeply worried about the little guy. He was depressed without Raph, and he got sick. It took a lot of patience and care to get him to the other side of that, and the two of them basically made it their whole purpose in life to keep Chompy going. For Raph.

Everyone's trying their best, all for the sake of the boys. For their memories.

They're having a hard time of it.

But they're trying.

Fun fact: Did you know Painted turtles like to bask in logs? It helps rid them of parasites. Mikey especially loves basking under a head lamp given to him by Donnie. They all would have cuddle piles when they were younger.

Some Random info about our creative orange-clad turtle:

Karai taught him how to do makeup shortly after they head to the farmhouse. They paint their nails together with April and Shini. Karai and the siblings are cousins in my AU. I wanted to build the concept of Saki and Yoshi actually being brothers. Mikey is just the most accepting of welcoming them into the family, even though they tried to kill them for almost a year and a half.

When the siblings team up into duos Mikey and Donnie are the main duo until Leo becomes co-leader. Then it’s usually Mikey and Leo when team split-ups happen. Mikey and Leo is such an underrated duo too but they are both very supportive of each other.

Gets babied a lot at the beginning from their siblings so they like to show off and win practice matches to prove that he can handle themself. Mikey has the most raw talent for ninjitsu, he just doesn’t put in the effort for it out of fear of being responsible over his siblings. It ends up with them showing a lot of respect for Raph being leader as time goes on.

When Raph got his lip pierced Mikey wanted to join in but chickened out. He ended up piercing his mask and liked how it turned out! Instead Mikey is the cosmetologist person for the siblings. Donnie is most likely to try makeup though.

Helps Donnie with paint jobs on some of their inventions. Mikey’s most notable paint jobs are Metalhead and the Shellraiser

Cooks with Raph a lot of the time. Mikey and him will find recipes to try out. Mikey prefers baking but is the best cook of the family besides Splinter. Mikey also really enjoys cooking shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Rat in the Kitchen

Mikey has ADHD like in canon, and also has very good empathic abilities. Plus they’re also prone to the most injuries. Mikey is the most acrobatic of the siblings, hence the kneepads.

Character analysis: Rise Season 2: Mikey

I think season 2 was a hit or miss with Mikey. See, in this season, if Mikey wasn’t doing stuff with his brothers and saving New York, he spend his time reforming Draxum. (Even though it was only like 2 1/2 episodes). I had hope in season 2 Mikey would works on his powers, and talk to his family about his feelings. Did I think those things happen? Kind of. While Mikey did unlock his Ninpo, I for the love of me, can’t figure out what his new power is. Raph can make copies of himself, Leo can teleport himself and others, and Donnie can make any weapon out of magic. So what’s Mikey’s?

But I think this season, and his character arch, is him helping others. He is a supporter. He and April help Draxum, he had to work together with his family to save Todd (episode 2), he also had to work together with Meat Sweats to save New York (episode 11).

He’s optimistic, creative, competitive, and most importantly, emotional. He has 3 Dr persona; Dr Delicate Tough, Dr Feelings, and Dr Postive. (4 if you’re counting Dr Slightly Dissapointed). Each of his personas deal with his emotions. Dr DT is his blunt and anger, Dr F is is emotional intelligence, and Dr P is his optimistic and well, positive.

Emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. I find it interesting that Mikey, the youngest brother, is the one so in tun with his emotions. But it make scenes when you think about the core topic of Rise; it’s about family. It’s about loving your family, about not being alone, about letting people help you and overcome your burdens. Raph is the leader, he doesn’t let anyone help him, gets so anxious and stress out. Donnie can’t figure out his emotions in a healthy way, and Leo bury a his emotions, only being serious in times of need. And Splinter, he can’t dealt with his emotions and issues. So who has to be the one to deal with that? Mikey. His the family therapist, wither intentionally or not.

While I love Mikey, and the fact there more to his character then being the annoying little brother or him being treated like a infant, I wish they can have him not be that emotional support. Yes they showed us having funny and being goofy, and be angry. But I wish they let his character grow, to learn that not every needs to be help, that it’s ok to put yourself above others.

ROTTMNT Fantasy AU: The Messenger, The Hunter, The Prince, and The Thief - Mikey and Raph’s story

So @tiramisu-art created this Fantasy AU idea that takes place in a magical world. The the turtle bros are separated at birth and raised by different people.

The Messenger, Mikey - Raised by Toddrick the Druid. A courier. Has empathic abilities.

The Hunter, Raph - Raised by James Jupiter. A bounty hunter. Has dreamwalking abilities.

The Prince, Leo - A “ward” of Big Mama. Prissy rich boy. Has illusory and healing abilities.

The Thief, Donnie - Raised by the Mud Dogz with Leonard as a father figure. Thieves with honor. Has levitation abilities.

For this AU several artist and writers have gotten together and created some great stuff! But we were lacking in the Mikey and Raph side of things, so I figured I’d pop in and do some story building for them. Mikey was raised mostly in a forest and among animals, so he’s pretty sheltered and naive to the world. His empathic abilities give him insight into other’s feelings, but not their intentions. Meanwhile, Raph was given a very skewed sense of right and wrong based on the vigilante, James Jupiter’s (Jupiter Jim), teachings. JJ, being a rather narcissistic and manipulative man, also gave Raph a sense that if he made one wrong move he could become one of the very criminals and monsters that JJ fights. The two turtle boys meet up and end up learning from each other.

Hey yo! Can I request some platonic stuff with how turtles deal with their Reader friend who's known to easily panic at the pettiest of things thanks to their paranoia? Like Reader would overanalyze everything from the New York's mutant invasion, to their social life, to the guy's actions to piece together their attitude towards them. And then misinterpret said actions and come to abrupt conclusions, often reacting with distress for comedy's sake. Just like a typical teenager.

A/N - This is,,,very relatable alksdfhjasf I made this a little self-indulgent 

Donnie has a fair amount of experience with over-analyzing (“the classic Donnie Overthink,,,”), but as far as the rest of the turtles go, they’ve got a pretty live-in-the-moment, don’t think too hard about it philosophy

But that doesn’t mean they think any less of you or how you feel. They may not really get it, but you’re their friend. They always want to at least try to help 

So they do. They’re always ready to text/call/swing by your place whenever something happens around the city, like another mutant attack that’s got you rattled. Usually they have to rock/paper/scissors over it because they all want to check in on you but they don’t want to overwhelm you, so they do things one at a time 

Besides, the last thing you need is four mutant turtles trying to climb in through your window at 1AM after another villain attack. Even if they do have good intentions 

They all help you out in their own little ways though

Raph has absolutely no problem with constantly reassuring you. If you have a consistent habit of misreading him or feeling like you’ve done something wrong, he’ll always assure you that you haven’t- and if you did, he’d be sure to talk to you about it directly. He thinks you’re the best, and has no problem letting you know that as many times as you need

Leo’s good at reading you, so he’s probably the best at being able to tell when you’re close to panicking, and will subtly pull you away from a group or situation before it gets to that point. He’s also surprisingly good at remembering the best ways to reassure you and calm you down 

Mikey is generally pretty empathic, and a naturally supportive and reassuring guy. You likely won’t even need to ask him for help, though he’ll always ask you before he does something like show up at your house or help you away from a situation. He’s got your back :) 

While Donnie may not be the best with feelings, he does know how to break down situations, so you can always ask him if you need help clarifying something that happened, or making sure that he and his brothers’ relationship’s toward you haven’t changed. He’s always at the ready with an explanation for the weird things happening in the city too, so you never feel caught off guard with that either 

All in all, the guys are always gonna be there to support you, but never in a condescending way. Raph may have a habit of babying people sometimes and Donnie can be more distant than you’d like, but all it takes is some open and honest conversation for them to learn what helps you and what doesn’t. And they’re more than willing to have those conversations (as much as Donnie claims he “wants nothing to do with this emotional vulnerability stuff”)

Personalities

Guess I’ve never really did one post like this one, but I wanted to list out how I envision the guys to be like, generally. My creativity has been going down the drain lately, so hopefully that’ll boost me up a bit !

-- Leo --

Leo gives out that tough, serious vibe, mostly because he’s the leader and wants to show that he’s in control.

...

But in general, that dude does like to laugh and have some fun!

Don’t worry though, he knows when he has to be serious!!!! ... At some points he just has to relax, you know?

A Man of Culture ™ , he owns some bonsai trees and loves to meditate so he can have a clearer mind. Tranquility is his way to recharge his batteries (yes, I do see him as an ambivert, with a strong introvert side).

 A comic books fan, shares that passion with Mikey! He’s more of a Marvel fan, personally - some of his favorites are Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain America, and probably a bunch of others).

Anger and strong emotions can hinder his leading choices. Anxiety rises in him, which can cloud his thoughts, but he’s working hard on that (and he’s kinda good at hiding his panic, generally).

Even if he doesn’t say it often - he does love spending time with his brothers! Watching basketball matches is definitely a must for those four.

A Leo in love is a smiling Leo. A true gentleman, he can turn into quite the passionate lover when alone with his s/o. He’s not much a fan of PDA, but his s/o shouldn’t worry much about that as the affection is multiplied tenfold later on.

Actually has a good singing voice, but he would prefer to die than to let people know.

Values Splinter’s opinion highly and often goes to him for guidance about many things - mostly regarding his leadership.

It’s a bit hard for him to let new people enter his life, since he’s scared for his family to be discovered and out in the open by any means possible, but he’s slowly starting to trust his instincts and his brothers’, knowing when it’s safe to let certain people in their world or not.

He’s an avid reader. Has a preference for classic litterature, but also enjoys horror, crime stories, and a bit of romance (if he really feels like it).

Sir Raph bitchinson is in DAH HOUSE.

He’s not afraid to speak up and call out anything wrong in this household.

He and Donnie love to gossip and bitch around - you can’t change my mind. But they do that in secret though (wouldn’t want to hurt people with their judgements!!!)

Can be pretty much eloquent, when given the chance. He’s more street smart than book smart, but all knowledge is good knowledge.

He always likes to come up with some challenges for himself and his bros. Some sort of “friendly” competition amongst them, just to spice things up. He does consult Splinter sometimes to see what could be done in order to train certain skills.

Raph has a lot of love to give, but doesn’t like to show it plainly. He’s gotta show that big buff strong man attitude !!!!!!!!!! ... But he does have a big heart.

He and Mikey definitely do some music on the side - which has sparked the hilarious idea of a Hip Hop Christmas album. ... Mikey does call himself “MC Mikey”, but Raph is a better rapper.

Suprisingly good with arts and crafts (ex: woodcarving, knitting). Patience, precision, and carefulness are skills he has to work on often.

Training and lifting weights are his prefered ways to think back and analyze various things. That’s why when he’s angry, he goes out to train. It gives him the opportunity to calm down (somehow) and review the situation.

Even though his arguments with Leo can turn quite bitter, he knows he’d miss them if they were to stop. Butting heads with the leader is what brings them together (some would argue it’s not a healthy relation, but both are strong headed so it’s just always gonna be like that, you know~)

-- Donnie --

You know that shy, awkward, nerd stereotype? Throw that out the window, please.

Donnie sure is quiet when he first meets new people, but that’s only so he can observe them better and get to know how to interact with them better.

Once he’s starting to grow more comfortable, he’s probably one of the chillest dude you could hang out with.

Sure, sometimes he’ll start blabbering about his projects and throw out some complex terms, but that’s just because he’s always happy to include people into his things (IF the project is going well, that is...)

A patient teacher. Yes sometimes it’s tiring having to explain whenever he says a big word, but he doesn’t mind overall explaining and bringing forth new knowledge to those who seek it.

He’s not one to flaunt his intellect. He is not above anyone and he understands that not everyone has the same passions as him. Everybody can learn something new everyday - himself included.

Has a good sense of humor, mostly sarcastic. Is always up to doing some pranks around the lair with Mikey.

Donnie’s anger management could be described as “the calm before the storm”. He usually has a good control over his emotions, but if they ever get to explode, he can be quite ... “sharp”. He doesn’t hold his words and can be a bit judgemental when angry - but he’s quick to rectify the situation and apologize. Overall, when he’s facing a situation that displeases him, he is silent  and thoughtful. ... A lot goes on in his mind.

When in love, Donnie’s heart is soft and he’s a big romantic/cheesy dork. He’s often caught gazing at his s/o, with a smile on his face. He’s not afraid to lay his feelings in the open and doesn’t mind some PDA, but when he and his s/o are alone together, you can say it gets cranked up a bit ;)

Listens to various music genres. Has a preference for 80′s-90′s rock, jazz, and various types of electronic music.

Sometimes does some remote tech support jobs on the side so he and his family can have some money to spend.

Loves to play videogames! The first one he ever completed was Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo (hence why he has a SNES controller with his gear - an object filled with good memories!).

The self proclaimed “handyman” of the lair. He loves tinkering around and find ways to upgrade simple things in the house. He’s always up for a good challenge! (May or may not have a suggestion box for his bros and his dad to drop ideas once in a while <__< !!!)

Searching for a litteral ray of sunshine? Look no further; Mikey is here.

For him, finding joy and positivity in anything is a must - at least, most of the time.

He knows his family is not of the ordinary kind with a normal house, but that doesn’t mean things have to be grim and miserable!

This mindset does come at a price though. It does happen for Mikey to have his morale drop considerably low, but in those moments he knows he has his family to support him and make him feel better.

In return he is extremely supportive of anything his family does and will always encourage them when they’re going through a rough patch.

He and Raph love to collect various human items. Mikey has a tendency to go for art related items, which sparked his interest in arts (painting, spray cans/graffiti, drawing).

He also developped an interest in cooking.

Both skills are well received by his bros and he loves to teach them some tricks here and there, along with providing creative inputs to anything (mostly Donnie’s projects).

He’s an empath and doesn’t mind when his brothers vent to him. He wants them to know they are heard and valued! The best medicine he can provide is humor.

He’s a big flirt. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and he’s not afraid to express his admiration.

A party needs to be organized? Leave that to him. He always come up with some cool playlists, lots of booze, various activities, and a theme (if needed).

Loves to reference a lot of movie quotes, popular stuff and such. And it’s never out of place too, which can be surprisingly clever!

“I just… Imagine it, y/n. A little creature that we would have created. I hope they’d have your personality, though. I can get a bit too aloof sometimes, and you’ve always been the one to point that out and stand up to it-”

You looked at him as he quieted

He looked back at you, eyes full of love

So, a few days later, you found yourself in your doctor’s office explaining the situation

After you left, you went to your apartment instead of the Lair

You felt like you needed to be alone with a pint of ice cream

You felt bad for ignoring Mikey’s calls, but you didn’t have the emotional strength to face him right now

He comes to your apartment

“Angel! What happened?! You’ve had me worried sick!”

He engulfs you in a hug, careful not to smush your credit cream

When he lets go, he borrows your spoon and takes some ice cream

Thoughts on Raph's anger issues

2012 applied the "tough with a soft heart" trope for Raph but they couldve done more for Raph and show why he has anger issues. Does such a bad temper come out of a vacuum? Well Im not a psychologist so I dont know but if they provided a reason why hes angry, it would give him more depth. Most of his inner conflict is "i should stop being angry" instead of "why am i so angry?" so i pieced together a reason for why that might be and how his development followed that.

Based on what weve seen in canon, his anger issues might come from resentment that Splinter favors Leo more than him. Donnie and Mikey have other passions outside of ninjutsu but to Leo and Raph, ninjutsu is their world and it seems that Leo beat Raph in that area according to Splinter.

Resentment towards Leo and Splinter

Splinter may love his sons equally but he trusts Leo more. Theyre a very small family and prior to meeting April and the rest of their new friends, Splinter never imagined there would be others to take care of his sons. When he leaves, he expected them to be on their own. So hes preparing ahead for who is going to lead them next and that is Leo. Because Raph focused too much on his skills but didnt develop his character into one like a leader.

But Raph is very young and he might have misinterpreted Splinter's passing of responsibility to Leo as loving Leo more. And he feels frustrated and inadequate and those feelings turn into anger issues.

Isolation made his negative emotions fester

Raph is facing emotions he cant talk to anyone about. Leo and Splinter are the reasons for it and Mikey seems to be more immature than he is to understand complicated feelings like that. Theres a risk that Donnie might scold him if he opens up, personally i dont think he would, but its scary to open up to someone like that and youll come up with worst case scenarios if you think about it. And its very likely he doesnt want to acknowledge these feelings because its painful to admit he holds resentment for family who loves him dearly.

As for Mikey, Raph underestimates him a lot and hes not the type to unload his burdens on his younger brother. Its also implied that he feels protective over Mikey so as a protector, he wouldn't want to bother Mikey with his issues.

Being isolated for most of their lives and only having each other for company isnt the best environment to grow in. I think we all realized that during this quarantine. Its amazing the turtles turned out so well. And Raph developed issues because of it but thats normal considering his situation.

His love for pets

The writers might have put his soft spot for pets just to contradict his tough guy character but if we look at it in the context of his issues, it could be the product of isolation and his wish to connect with others outside of his family. He feels he cant open up to Leo and Splinter because of his resentment, theres a risk Donnie might be "too logical" and point out the flaws in his feelings instead of empathizing, and Mikey is out of the question for him. So he connects to pets instead because they won't judge him and he feels less lonely with them.

How Donnie and Mikey would've helped

Personally i think Donnie wouldve understood him and explained to him what Splinter's intentions are. Like Leo, Donnie has a burden no one else can carry, which is being the brain of the team. And the ones who gave him that burden are his brothers themselves, always counting on him to figure things out. Donnie knows they dont do this because hes their favorite brother but simply because of his capabilities. Just like Splinter gives burden to Leo because of his leadership skills.

Splinter, as their father, only has the right to appoint the role he has, and that is his position as the leader of the family. He cant dictate what the others choose to be anymore and if Leo refused him, he cant force him so its a good thing Leo is willing. But the rest of the brothers fell into place easily. Donnie the brain, Raph the muscle and Mikey the heart. Since Raph values Donnie and Mikey for what they bring to team, then he should also value himself despite not being the leader.

I also think Mikey wouldve helped him. Mikey is wise and has high emotional intelligence. He can concisely put into words what Raph needs to hear. There are some things you know but cant seem to believe in, for example, you know your friends love you but sometimes you dont feel it. But Mikey has no such disconnect, he believes in everything he knows, so assurance coming from him would be very effective. You know if he says something, he means it and hes not just trying to make you feel better.

Embracing the protector role

Since he realizes hes not cut out to be leader, he embraces the role more suitable to his skills which is the protector. He tells Splinter that he can risk his life easily but he cant do it to his brothers. Instead of fighting for Leos position, he finds his place in the team and i think that helps him come to terms with Splinter's favor towards Leo.

Summary

Raph develops resentment from Splinter's favoritism towards Leo and has no outlet for his emotions. he's unable to express that frustration in a healthy manner, turning into anger issues.

His love for pets also implies that he longs for connection and for someone to understand him without judging him.

If he had opened up to Mikey and Donnie who arent involved in the cause of his issues, his temper might not have gotten this bad because Mikey is empathetic and Donnie has a logical understanding of the situation.

He does come at peace with his emotions and he gets calmer as the seasons go by as he had given up on being the leader and favored student and accepted his role as protector.

TORMENT! and Mikey.

When your two AU fic series in the same fandom basically have the exact same premise with small differences, but it really doesn’t matter because the characters are still different versions of themselves. What I’m tryin to say is: the latest story in “The Sunshine Child” and the first chapter of “The Brightest Fire” are coming from the same place, but it’s actually a nifty challenge to recall the differences between 2003 TMNT and 2012 TMNT so I can get the details right. I’ll need to do some research, maybe ask some 2k3 experts about episodes. Now that 2012 canon officially gave the green light to torture the cinnamon roll, I am going to run through the Break The Cutie and Iron Woobie tropes like there’s no tomorrow. Y’all are going to hate me. But someone has to keep the “Hurt Mikey” fics going, because there are so many “Hurt Donnie” fics out there. My two geeky neurodivergent turtle children are beloved so much that they need to be tormented. In relation to each other. Throw Leo into the mix emotionally, make him watch. Raph can comfort everyone, it’s his new job. Haa, ha ha. (PS, all the wikis and descriptons of Michelangelo mention that his 2003 incarnation is something that is never talked about in the show: “ Michelangelo is also appointed to be "the one with the brightest fire" or with the most potential by The Ancient One. Master Splinter also claims a few times that Michelangelo obtains the most "raw talent" of all the brothers. Although, both Master Splinter and The Ancient One, say because of Michelangelo's lack of focus and interest in training, he will probably never meet his full potential.” The 2012 animated comic released before the CGI show had Splinter talking about Mikey having the most raw potential, more natural talent than his brothers combined, lacking the focus and drive. So what if Mikey started really using that potential and talent? He would be terrifying and amazing. It’s a good thing he has such a good heart and a cheerful disposition, because if he was trying to deliberately hurt someone, it would be the most horrifying game of cat and mouse ever.
