yeah mr. the king bust it down yeah yeah uh yeah yeah
Tumblr media
i finally finished this piece. i still have some qualms with it though, but if i didnt finish it now it would stay rotting in my ibispaint app and the thought of it staying unfinished would haunt me. if i get another wave of "king new vegas/elvis hyperfixation" then... maybe ill do another. actively avoiding looking too long at him because then i start picking it apart and seeing all the mess-ups and UGH. im gonna listen to some elvis.
minorly unrelated but im devastated that i will never see a real frank sinatra, dean martin, perry como, and other ratpack concert... i was watching dean martin's live concert in london with my dad and i was just lamenting. I WANT TO SEE THEM MAKE FUN OF EACH OTHER AND PUSH EACH OTHER OFF THE STAGE!!!! dean martin and sinatra just fooling around, the atmosphere, the music (guy who only listens to 40s, 50s, and sometimes 60s all day every day), the comedy? everything except, you know, the beliefs and bad stuff. i like having rights.
and i gave him a spiked baseball bat instead of a mic. yippee!

🌻 - RatPack
We just found a new alter! Took us like two years to figure out that I’m not Gabe or Ashley cause we’re all dumb lol. My name’s Erza (subject to change) and I believe I’ve been around for about a decade. I’m a protector, my favorite color is red, and I really like witchy stuff and have been thinking about picking up cartomancy as a form of self reflection.
That’s all I know about myself so far! Thanks for the ask ❤️

Class of ‘62
September | 1958 | Sixth period | 1:30pm
Friday was finally here. He had done it. With the first week of freshman year at Hawkins High School drawing to a close, Scott Clarke had managed to fly completely under the radar.
Every day he would eat his lunch in the janitor’s closet. The smell from the cleaning products was overwhelming, but the delicious turkey sandwiches on rye his mom packed for him made his surroundings slightly more bearable. For Gym class, Scott arrived at the changing room early before anyone else showed up. He ran his laps, but kept his distance from the other students in order to go unnoticed.
He didn’t really need to worry about study hall. The rules were that if you showed up, you had to keep your head facing down at all times and kids weren’t allowed to speak to one another. Scott sighed as he walked down the hallway to his next class.
It wasn’t easy to constantly lay low, but he was all too familiar with the alternative. Even though he turned 14 over the summer, Scott still hadn’t hit his growth spurt. Which meant he was still small enough to be elegantly shoved into a locker by the likes of Holden Hughes or Teddy Armstrong.
“Bullies,” Scott thought gloomily. They were everywhere you looked, in every crowd. What’s worse is that they always seemed to go after him. All throughout middle school he had been picked on for his sweater vests, haircut, and suchlike. Now that that was behind him, he was hoping history wouldn’t repeat itself. Clenching his chemistry textbook in front of him as if to cover a target on his chest, Scott quietly slipped into Room 107’s Science class and took his seat at the very back.
The sad fact was that because of all this sneaking, Scott was alone.
As the teacher relayed an excerpt from Chapter 3 to her students, Scott kept his eyes trained on the wall clock. 1:46pm... only an hour until dismissal, but it already felt like a century to him.
Lost in his thoughts, he almost didn’t hear when a girl called out to the teacher who was now writing something on the blackboard.
“Pardon me?” the teacher said, turning around to face the girl. “What do you mean that’s incorrect?”
Scott snapped back into reality.
The girl looked on, nervously standing up from her seat to point at what was written on the board. “I don’t think the Earth is 117.6 million kilometres away from the Sun like you said.”
The science teacher’s eyes bore through the girl. Scott had never gotten a good look at her until now, but the woman’s hawkish features and stony countenance were scary enough to curdle milk. He looked down at his notes and flipped back a few pages to some of the earlier ones he’d written. His narrowed eyes lit up suddenly in realization.
“Ms. Ratliff, she’s right.”
Silence overtook the classroom. Even Ms. Ratliff arched an eyebrow toward the unfamiliar voice. Scott rose from his seat and continued, “The distance you wrote on the board is too close.”
Everyone turned to stare at him, and he gulped in response. Scott realized that even with his love for science, he had never actually spoken out in class before, much less corrected the teacher. His gaze wandered over to the girl sitting up front who had questioned the measurement first. She had silky waves of brown hair pulled back with a purple Alice band, and cream-coloured skin.
“Uh, right?” he asked, looking at her. The girl, who had been staring back at him curiously, became alert and nodded.
“Yeah! The correct distance between the Earth and the Sun would be 149.6 million kilometres, ma’am.”
Growling, Ms. Ratliff adjusted her glasses and skimmed through a blue Duo-Tang folder sitting on her desk. She breathed an airless sigh, “Mea culpa. It appears I’ve made a mistake...”
Scott’s lungs deflated like a sliced tire as he sank back into his seat. When he looked up, he noticed that the girl up front was smiling at him. Without thinking, he smiled back, which showed off his braces (the main reason he always got picked on).
Ms. Ratliff slapped the folder shut. “The rest of class will be devoted to our lab project to get you ready for the upcoming weeks. It’s simple, so if you pay attention then we shouldn’t have any problems.” Her eyes fixed on Scott, “Shall we begin? Or would any other ghosts like to make their presence known on the day before the weekend?”
Red in the face, Scott lowered his head in embarrassment as chuckles erupted from his classmates. There was no way he was ever going to blend in now. He looked at Ms. Ratliff, who was giving him the stink eye. It appeared he was going to have his hands full with a very different type of bully this semester.
Students in class were paired up, two to each station. Following his teacher’s instructions, Scott grabbed a pair of beakers and approached his new lab partner. He was a bespectacled boy who was stealthily trying to finish a chapter in a The Lord of the Rings book. It was the same series that Scott had been hoping to read since it’s release. When the boy saw Scott walking toward him, he instantly closed the book and turned it over. “Hey.” he said.
“Hi.” Scott replied, gently placing the beakers down. “Is that The Two Towers?” he asked, motioning at the book.
The boy seemed surprised at the question. “Oh...um, yeah. It is! Do you read Tolkien too?”
“I want to start, but I haven’t been able to find his books anywhere.” Scott said. It was the truth. Between riding the new scooter he’d gotten on his birthday and examining college courses for the future (because he liked to think ahead), Scott had forgotten to free up any time for summer reading.
The boy with glasses smiled excitedly, “If you want, I can bring The Fellowship of the Ring to class on Monday since I’m done reading it.” He looked around briefly and whispered, “By the way, I think it’s awesome that you stood up to The Ratpack.”
“The who?” Scott asked with a puzzled smile.
The other boy turned to him. “The Ratpack. It’s what my older brother and his friends call Ratliff because she’s always confiscating kids’ stuff. She packs it all away in a box and locks it somewhere.” he said, pouring the recommended sum of liquid into the beaker.
Scott put his goggles on, and positioned their beaker on the bunsen burner. “Sounds like what Holden Hughes does to me with lockers.”
“You too, huh?”
Scott’s smile faltered as he glanced at his lab partner. He had never even considered that Holden and Teddy picked on other kids besides him. “Yeah, they call me ‘Train tracks’. It’s because of my braces.” Scott bared his teeth so his new friend could see for himself.
The bespectacled boy smiled sympathetically. “That sucks, man. They call me ‘Four-eyes’ because I wear these dumb glasses. But my real name is Bob. Bob Newby.”
Bob flinched for a moment when Scott raised a fist at him, but relaxed when the brace-faced boy simply bumped it against his own. “I’m Scott Clarke. Nice to meetcha.”
Bob grinned, “Hey Scott. Want to know the worst part about having glasses when you’re in Science class?”
Scott mirrored the grin. “What?”
Placing the goggles over his head, Bob pulled the lenses forward, stretching the elastic band, until he finally let go. The goggles smacked back to the boy’s face and sat right on top of his thick, black-framed glasses. He looked more goofy than ever, which caused both boys to double over in laughter. Their giggling caught the attention of Ms. Ratliff, whose beady eyes bulged when she looked to them.
“TOO MUCH GAS!” she yelled, racing in the direction of their table.
Scott was the first to stop laughing. “I’m sorry?” he asked, completely bewildered by her panic-stricken state.
“You’ve left the gas on too long!” she elaborated. “You were supposed to turn off your bunsen burners five minutes ago!”
Scott looked down in horror as the beaker they’d been heating was now overflowing with frothy green liquid. “Oh my God!” he yelled.
September | 1958 | Detention | 3:15pm
Friday was finally here. He had failed. With the first week of freshman year at Hawkins High School now over, Scott Clarke had ruined a lab experiment, received detention as a result, and ranked #1 on his science teacher’s blacklist.
But he wasn’t alone.
Bob Newby clapped two chalkboard erasers together, accidentally clouding up his glasses in the process. “Ugh, not again!” he groaned, stumbling backwards.
Barely containing his laughter, Scott picked up a rag and handed it to Bob. Afterwards, he went back to clapping his own pair of erasers. “Just 57 more rounds to go and we’re home free.”
“Shit.” Bob spat. “I’m gonna need more rags.”
A knock sounded through the door, causing Scott and Bob to turn their heads. As it creaked open, a small, female figure peered into the room. Even with half her frame hidden behind the door, Scott still recognized her right away. It was the girl from earlier who had corrected Ms. Ratliff during the lecture in class. “Is The Ratpack still here?” she asked.
Scott smiled and shook his head. She smiled too.
She walked into the classroom and looked at the blackboard, then back toward the boys. “Thanks for backing me up today.” she said. “Science is one of my favourite subjects, but Ratliff...she kind of freaks me out.”
“Yeah, me too.” Scott admitted, scratching his head. “I’m Scott, by the way. And he’s Bob.”
“Karen.” the girl smiled warmly. “Pleased to meet you both.”
“Likewise.” Bob said, playing with the erasers in his hands. “So, did you get detention too?” he asked.
“Nah,” Karen said. “I just thought you guys could use an extra pair of hands. If that’s okay.”
Scott exchanged a glance with Bob, who shrugged. Scott turned back to Karen with a grin. “Of course!”
Excited to help her new friends, the girl ran over to them and picked up a pair of erasers for herself. She stood a few feet from the blackboard and began whacking away. Bob smiled happily and followed her lead. Scott looked between Bob, who stood on his left, and Karen, on his right. He looked down, and chuckled quietly, before joining them both.
Maybe high school wouldn’t be so bad after all.
@elevenknope and @beep-beep-trashmouth I got the idea for this fic from your awesome head canons about Scott Clarke, Bob Newby, and Karen Wheeler all being friends when they were younger. I hope you like this!

I'm not any good at any of those things! But it's amazing you're learning a little of everything. I can't wait to see some of your work 🤗 if you ever feel comfortable to share, that is. I write stories, so I haven't posted on here a lot, mainly because I don't have the time to write like I used to, or the patience to fight with Tumblr formatting 😅 But I'm slowly getting there. I'm really into everything, music wise! 5SOS, Becky G, CNCO, Ed Sheeran to name a few. You? -🌹 2/2
I just like to keep my brain active, That's all. I may not be the best in some of it, but it makes life interesting, you know. It might also have something to do with genes too, since my dad is a pretty good painter and into to arts. So I guess I got it from him. 💁. As far as what music I listen to, basically anything but death and trash metal, and Polka music. But I did grew up on Queen, Abba, classic rock mainly. I also love older stuff like Frank Sinatra, The Ratpack, Luciano Pavarotti, Guns'n'roses, earlier Bon Jovi. I mean anything you might ask me, I probably listen to it as well.

Ocean’s 8 (2018)
Tumblr media
I gave it a second shot and nope, I still don’t think Ocean’s 8 is good. If you like it, I won’t fight you. If you’ve been itching to see it, go ahead. If you’re on the fence, however, I’ve got some criticisms (and some praises) you should hear.
Freshly released from prison, Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) decides to execute a heist with the help of her best friend, Lou (Cate Blanchett). Once they’ve got the hacker (Rihanna as "Nine Ball"), cutpurse (Awkwafina as Constance), insider (Helena Bonham Carter as Rose), jeweler (Mindy Kaling as Amita) and smuggler (Sarah Paulson as Tammy), they’re ready for the big score: convince Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) to go to the star-studded annual Met Gala wearing the $150,000,000 Toussaint necklace, then steal it.
This isn't a remake of the 2001 George Clooney picture (itself a remake of the 1960 Ratpack caper). It’s a new story which follows Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie. Well, it’s kind of new. The characters are new, the plot too but mostly, it's a reworked version of something old. Some scenes, like the opener, are basically shot-for-shot remakes.
Not helping the film are its two leads, which aren't likable. Stealing from a casino is one thing. Stealing from people who are intoxicated, on vacation or just working - as Debbie and Lou do - is quite another and once you begin scrutinizing, Ocean's 8 begins to crumble.
Tumblr media
It isn’t uncommon in heist films for information to be deliberately omitted in order to give the audience a satisfactory semi-twist ending. The difference between Ocean’s 8 and say… Ocean’s 11 is that the 2001 film didn't cheat; it set up everything way in advance. Looking back at this adventure, some stuff doesn’t add up or makes no sense. How convenient that when Daphne Kluger (who flops between bitchy and sympathetic depending on the scene) is seated next to Claude, (Richard Armitage), the ex Debbie's planning on getting revenge on, they fall for each other? Similarly, why did Debbie risk her entire operation by A) making a big show at the Met Gala (I guess none of the staff she talked to were interrogated by the police or investigators afterwards), B) even bother appearing at the gala and drawing attention to her crew, and C) split up the jewels and transform them into individual, unique necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc. when the time required to do this meant they had that much of a greater time frame to get caught? You could've easily smuggled it out without anyone noticing.
Tumblr media
On the more positive note, the story moves quickly and the cast is terrific. The actresses are very good and they play off each other wonderfully, rickety accents or not. Nonetheless, even with the all-female gimmick, there’s nothing here you haven’t seen done better elsewhere. (Theatrical version on the big screen, June 8, 2018)
