to the tattoo shop au: im interested in oscars piercing down under. Like what was max reaction to osc asking him to do it? Or charles reaction? I think Carlos would bluescreen for ten minutes after learning about it and them getting super horny. Would love a drabble about it 🫶🏻
Okay okay okay so it wasn't supposed fo become smutty but here we are lolol
~~~
"I'm impressed that while dating Max, you only got some ear piercings, Osc." Carlos grinned cheekily at the tattoo artist, not being able to resist getting under his skin a bit even though they were getting there, getting better. Osc rolled his eyes a little, meanwhile swatting Charles's hand away as the other man tried to poke Needle, who was curled up in a little ball on Oscar's lap.
"I had a nose piercing for a while too." He shrugged. "Not my thing though, very annoying during allergy season." He hummed. Lando, who was sitting on the floor with Max as they played FIFA on the small tv, glanced over his shoulder.
"Don't forget your dick piercing." He called with an angelic smile. The distraction was enough for Max to win the game, causing Lando to pout. Carlos meanwhile stared at Oscar in surprise.
"You... you have an intimate piercing?" He asked, doe eyes wide. Oscar chuckled a little awkwardly.
"Yeah, I have a lorum now, Max might add a frenum to it at same point." He murmured.
"Max gave you the piercing?" Carlos asked, tilting his head to the side while his teeth gently tugged on the little ring in his lip.
"Of course I did. I would let him go to a random piercer." Max huffed a little impatiently. "He mentioned wanting it one time when we drank too many beers, and of course I helped him remember the day after." He nodded firmly. Oscar nudged Max's shoulder with his foot.
"Took me 5 months to actually decide I was brave enough though." He chuckled. Charlie perked up.
"I was much quicker deciding to get my clit pierced after my nipples!" He grinned, snuggling closer into Osc's side. Oscar pressed a kiss to his temple.
"It's because you are so much more brave, Charlie baby." He murmured, chuckling as Charles beamed up and kissed him soundly. Carlos was still looking at Oscar a little wide eyed, but then nudged Charles playfully as well.
"Of course you are brave, you were the first to date grumpy Max." He grinned. Max turned around with an offended look on his face, but settled as he saw the joking glint in Carlos's eyes.
"I'm not grumpy." He murmured, pouting a little. Lando chuckled and nudged their shoulders together.
"A little bit, at first. But not once you decide you like someone." He soothed. "And we all like you, too." He added, leaning in to press a shy kiss to Max's lips. Carlos regarded them all quietly.
If only he could have what the four of them had...
~~~
"Did it hurt?" Carlos blurted out. It was a few days later, and Carlos was hanging out in the back room of Oscar's shop between appointments. Max had just headed out to go bring lunch to Charles and Lando who were both in the bakery today but Oscar and Carlos were fine hanging out alone now, it was no longer awkward.. Oscar looked up from his sketches.
"What?" He asked quizzically. Carlos swallowed thickly.
"Your piercing... did it hurt?" He clarified. Oscar's expression turned amused as he placed his sketchbook down next to him om his chair, legs swinging a bit.
"I mean, a bit, yeah. But it's fine now." He shrugged. Carlos licked his lips, eyes flicking down to Oscar's lap.
"And it's... where exactly?" He spoke slowly, unsure how Oscar was going to react. Oscar raised an eyebrow, smile playing on his face.
"Want me to show me?" He asked, leaning back, legs splayed. Carlos's lips parted, but he seemed unsure what to say. He managed to nod, hoping he wasn't blushing too much. Oscar hummed, smiling serenely as he unbuttoned his jeans and wiggled them down his hips.
Right at that moment, Max came waltzing back into the back room as well, raising an eyebrow curiously.
"Am I interrupting something?" He asked amusedly, leaning against the doorframe. Oscar didn't seem phased.
"He asked to see my piercing." He shrugged. "He was curious." He added, but his head was cocked to the side with a curious look on his face. Max walked over.
"Hmm, I can help show it. It looks better when you're hard." He nodded. "We have to do my work justice, of course." He murmured, brushing a kiss to Oscar's temple as his hand came to lay over the Aussie's boxers, palming him slowly.
"You need to come closer, Carlos." Oscar hummed, cheeks going a bit pink as Max continued to palm at him. "It's small, you have to see it up close." He added, causing Max to snort.
"He means the piercing, his dick is definitely not small." He chuckled while Osc rolled his eyes. Carlos moved over, perching on the stool Oscar used when tattooing.
Oscar shifted his hips but let Max do the rest, pushing his boxers down further to free Oscar's cock, which had hardened considerably. Max's hand curled around the shaft, teasing it slowly before pushing it towards Oscar's stomach, making him moan softly. Just above his balls, a little bar glittered in the light, and Max traced his free hand over it.
"He was hard when I pierced him too." Max grinned cheekily. "Pretty sure I could make him cum when I pierce his frenum piercing, right here." He added, touching the sensitive area on the underside of Oscar's cock, just under the pink spongy head. Oscar shuddered, cock twitching in Max's hand.
"It's very pretty." Carlos murmured, eyes even darker than usual. Oscar looked at him through lidded eyes.
"Maybe you should be there, when Max pierces me. To hold me down, of course." He murmured. Carlos grinned widely now, before licking his lips as he let his eyes roam over Oscar.
"Just tell me when." He said with a purr. And he meant it.

(Zack, having a good time chilling in Angeal’s apartment om his Gameboy Advanced)
(Until suddenly—)
Zack: AhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
(The ear-piercing shriek explodes through the living space, jolting Genesis out of his seat and causing him to drop his copy of Loveless pero en espanol on the spot. His head shoots up, gaze shooting towards the couch where Zackary is sitting/the source of the sonic boom.)
(And his eyes widen in concern.)
(Angeal is gone, he realizes. So is Sephiroth. There’s no one to help Zack out right now, to address whatever crisis has plagued him. And that’s when another realization strikes:)
(…It’s all up to him.)
(He has to be the hero.)
(Perhaps he can redeem himself, at last. Perhaps this is his chance to apologize to Zack, to make up for all the times he had called him names or treated him poorly or grew jealous of him and Sephiroth’s blossoming friendship.)
(So, his mind made, only seconds having passed, Genesis races over to the couch.)
Genesis: I’m coming!
(He stops in front of the wide-eyed, blanched Zack, evaluating the sight. And he immediately he spots the problem.)
(There, on Zack’s copy of Pokémon Emerald, his partner creature fish thing bears a sickly shade of purple instead of the natural blue Genesis remembered from the TV show.)
(His eyes widen in distress, as well as a sudden jolt of understanding crashing over him.)
(Goddess… poor Zackary must think his game is possessed! Glitched! Hmphhhhh. He told Angeal he should’ve bought the lad a more modern video game.)
(And Gaia, Zackary’s breathing is out of control—)
Genesis: Don’t worry, whelp! I know what to do!”
Zack: What are you—?!
(And before Zack can even react, Genesis swipes the console from his hands, and restets the system.)
Zack: …
Zack: ….
Genesis (handing back the system as it reboots): “It’s okay, no need to thank me. Angeal has had his fair share of technical difficulties in the past. Nothing to be ashamed or.
Zack: …
Zack: …
Genesis: …What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?
Zack: … ._.
Zack: That was a shiny Mudkip.
Genesis: A what now?
(Zack’s voice is wooden)
Zack: …A shiny Mudkip. Or should I say, 1/8192 chance shiny Mudkip. And I got one on my first shot.
Genesis: …Oh. I see.
…
Genesis: Well. At least your little game is not glitched anymore.
Zack: … ._.
Genesis: Is it getting hot in here—?
Zack: I’M GONNA KILL YOU.
(Angeal walks into the apartment minutes later to find Zack jumping up and down on a helpless Genesis’s back. He can’t even intervene before Sephiroth walks in behind him.)
Sephiroth: Zack! Stop that right now!
(Zack immediately freezes at his friend’s voice, the fire still in his eyes but a look of shame crossing his face as Sephiroth scowls.)
Angeal: …Thank you, Sephiroth. Now, Zack. In a civilized manner—
Zack: HE RESET MY SHINY MUDKIP.
Angeal: Okay. I don’t know what that means, but is this really a cause for—
Sephiroth: He did WHAT?!
(And that’s how poor Genesis Rhapsodos finds himself being body slammed by a 200-pound-plus Sephiroth.)

Rebecca Ferguson criticized after the TV4 interview: "Called her later and apologized"
"Was told by my team that I was going to meet an angry journalist, and went into defensive mode"
Rebecca Ferguson is back as Ilsa Faust in a new action-packed "Mission: impossible".
"I've had ten fantastic years with these people," says the Swedish world star to TT.
When TT speaks to Rebecca Ferguson, the American actors' strike has not yet been called, and Ferguson still has a full schedule at the moment. She is waiting for her husband outside Ikea, a first stop on a short holiday break in Sweden before duty calls again.
In addition to an executive producer role and lead role in the TV series "Silo", Rebecca Ferguson works to promote her latest blockbuster "Mission: impossible: dead reckoning part one", in which she plays Ilsa Faust alongside Tom Cruise for the third time. It's a darker, rawer "Mission: impossible" film compared to before, says Rebecca Ferguson.
— It's the same energy, explosiveness and awesome stunts. But it is darker and heavier. Before filming, director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise talked a lot about delving into the dark emotions of the characters. It's a balancing act, how deep to go in it when it's an exciting thriller at the same time.
For ten years, the "Mission: impossible" franchise has been part of Rebecca Ferguson's life, a journey that, at least for the moment, seems to be coming to an end. Ferguson feels great gratitude for the career she has gotten because of "Mission: impossible," she says.
— It's been great fun, and I've had ten fantastic years with these people. I have made three awesome and exhausting films.
"Not a choice I have made"
Ilsa Faust and Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt have grown close over the course of the films, and audiences have wondered if they would become a couple in the new film. Rebecca Ferguson says that she has received many questions about love and infatuation between Ilsa and Ethan after the film's premiere - a narrative about their relationship that she is not entirely on board with.
— I see a film where Ilsa has become very emotionally attached to Ethan, and it's not a choice I've made. In my eyes, she becomes a damsel in distress and weaker because of it. Their relationship was, to me, so much bigger than a sexual relationship. To me, their relationship was based on equality.
— We get the story told to us, and film the scenes in different ways. But we don't own stories. What I'm trying to say is that it's hard for us as actors to have control over the final product. As an actor, I have to trust the director and producer, and hope that their choices are the best for the production.
The storm of criticism
Rebecca Ferguson recently got into trouble in Sweden when she appeared in an interview with Efter fem in TV4 in April. Then she did not want to speak Swedish and questioned the journalist's language skills.
— I was told by my team that I would meet an angry journalist, and went into defensive mode. I got so stressed and cocky. But I'm not that person.
A storm of criticism followed, and Rebecca Ferguson was noticed, among other things, by the Instagram account "Dyngbaggegalan", which celebrates uncomfortable moments from Swedish television. Rebecca Ferguson says that she was saddened when she heard about the criticism after the interview, and that she did not recognize herself.
— That interview is evidence of a person who feels very vulnerable. I apparently reacted with attitude, which I have never done before. I called her later and apologized.
Want to be a producer
After a long career in Hollywood, Rebecca Ferguson can long for smaller productions with greater freedom, she says, and she would have liked to do something in Sweden again. Above all, she wants to feel that she has her own voice, which makes the role of producer all the more attractive.
— I enjoy being a producer, and am eager to do it more with a good team around me. I like the creative part of being a producer, and want to create characters, both in larger and smaller productions.
When Rebecca Ferguson now looks ahead, there is much from the action-packed years with "Mission: impossible" that she will carry with her.
— I look at it with joy and I have learned so much. I will bring a lot of that into my own productions.
Translated from swedish for @rebeccalouisaferguson

SEEING HOW BONTEN TRIO WOULD REACT TO GIRLS FLIRTING WITH THEM…

WARNINGS: lots of cussing lmao, not great writing i tried lmao
A/N: i think i spend too much time on tiktok, anyways heres a trend i found funny on the boys. lmk how ya liked this cuz idk if i do lol
art is by @DRV486
RINDOU
after watching a few videos, one trend in particular had caught your attention and led you to wanting to see how your boyfriend would react to girls coming up to him while he wasn’t with you.
You skip over to where Rindou was lounging on the couch watching tv, a gleam in your eye told him you were up to something causing him to sigh and sit up to face you, ready for whatever you had come up with this time.
Crawling to sit on his lap, you practically shoved your phone in his face to show him the video, and told him you wanted to test it out on him. After rolling his eyes and grumbling, he agreed to go along with it. Cheering in excitement you stand up and prepare yourself for your role as a stranger trying to chat up your man.
Slowly you walk up to him, a hand rubbing up his thigh, “Hi handsome, can I get your number?”
Immediately Rindou slapped your hand away from his thigh, “nah i don’t got a phone sorry.”
“what are you apologizing for? huh? you sorry you can’t text her? Do it again.”
You step back, ready to re-approach him.
“Hey baby, h-”
“nah, you ugly as hell. Batshit ugly bro, fuck out my face.” Rindou interrupts you. His bored expression and monotone voice cause you to burst out laughing.
You step back once more, going back up to him and wrap and arm around his neck and attempt to sit om his lap. Rindou is quick to throw push you off of him and onto the other side of the couch.
“ew, damn bitch you stink, you musty as hell”
“…is that good enough for you? Or do i have to fuckin beat up this bitch to make you happy?” Rindou asks, smiling at you laughing your ass off.
honestly 10/10 I think rindou would pass the test, he can drag a bitch no problem. I feel like he would just straight up ignore the girl, plus he’s too down bad for you to even think about other girls.
RAN
You and Ran sat in a parking lot of a salon waiting for Rindou to get his hair cut and re-dyed. Scrolling through your phone you came across a video about a girl testing her boyfriend on how he would react to a girl coming up to his car asking for help. Seeing the perfect opportunity to do this on Ran, you told him about the video and after letting out a quick laugh he immediately agreed.
Getting out of the car, you walked over to his window and tapped on the glass, as he rolled down the window you crossed your arms over the side of the car, purposely pushing out your tits.
“Hey, my car broke down, could you help me out?”
“Sure I can beautiful, what kind of car you drive?” Ran answered with flirty smile and eyes glued to your chest.
Your sweet smile dropped and you smacked his chest, “Man fuck you, go again.”
Ran laughs at you and nods, “sorry sorry, okay. I’ll do better this time.”
“My tire blew out, you think you could help me change it handsome?” You ask pouting at Ran and reaching out to rub his arm.
“Hell no you’re ugly, plus i got a girlfriend, get out of here,” Ran replied hitting your arm away from him.
“Ugly? You think i’m ugly?”
“Well, lets see turn around for me baby”
“Ran what the hell”
Ran starts laughing again at your annoyed face, “ok I’m serious this time, do it again.”
Rolling your eyes you lean back into the car.
“Hey I ran out of gas, think you could give me a ride to the gas station”
“i don’t care” Ran replies starring straight ahead.
“could you help me please?”
“You gonna pay me?”
“What? I-“
“you takin too long, no money, no point in helping”
You suddenly feel something move under your arms, looking down you quickly retracted your hands. With a cocky smile on his face and middle finger up, the heavily tinted windows rolled up, and to add to it you heard the door lock.
“you dumbass, let me back in!”
“nah, I got a girlfriend”
8/10, would definitely respond to the girls flirting, maybe even give her some help if she truly needed it, but otherwise he’ll bring her hopes up just to let them come crashing down by dragging the bitch with insults that’ll have her thinking about for the rest of her life.
SANZU
Known as the “loyal mad dog”, you were ready to test just how loyal Sanzu could be. You tell him about the videos you watched and how you were going to test him on how he reacts to girls coming on to him, after giving you a thumbs up he sits back and gets ready.
You walk over to him and attempt to wrap your arms around him, “Hi handsome, wanna go dance?”
Suddenly you’re pushed off of him, “I got a girlfriend back off WOOF WOOF”
you stand stunned as sanzu starts barking at you, maybe you should have asked him to be sober for this.
“that was fun, do it again I got more babe” Sanzu lets out a laugh.
You were a little nervous at what he had planned, but again you came up to him and started to rub up his arm, “Hi baby, can I get your number?”
Sanzu smacks your hand away and gives you a dirty look,“First of all, you are nothing but a trashy hoe. Second of all, your-you suck dick. Third of all, you’re not a boss ass bitch, you a boss ass trashy hoe,”
Holding back a laugh, you continue with your flirting.
“You’re so fine baby, wanna go up to a private room? I’ll give you a show pretty boy”
Immediately he starts screaming, scaring the shit out of you. You try shushing him, not wanting a noise complaint from your neighbors, but he just keeps on yelling.
“OKAY HARU I GET IT STOP YELLING”
“WHO ARE YOU? DONT CALL ME HARU, ONLY MY GIRL GETS TO CALL ME THAT, UGLY ASS HOE”
another 10/10, hes not the loyal mad dog for nothing (even if the title refers to mikey). While high i feel like he would scare the poor soul that approached him, but the times he is sober he’ll straight up murder the poor girl, with words of course (but if their a little too annoying and persistent maybe he actually will murder them…)

Autistic MC . . .
♡ How would the brothers react? ♡
♡.OM! [ +Big Brothers]
♡♡.SFW!! Minors don't look still! idk nothing could be triggering?? lmk if something is?
♡♡♡. I have no idea if I did this right but one could hope, correct? This was interesting and I learnt a few things while doing research, hope my angel likes this <3
. . . L U C I F E R !
♡ Lucifer, being the perfectionist he is, already knew that MC had autism from reading their files
♡ He had second thoughts on bringing this human into the world of demons but his pride won't let him say he was wrong or that he had to change his choice after when he confidently picked this file out of the long piles
♡ He gathered up his brothers and made them read about this human condition, dismissing all the protests and whining
♡ At first he only did this so the human won't be bothered and Diavolo won't be upset about the human's complains
♡ At first, he'd wonder why you're so...quiet, sure you're in devildom now but you don't have questions or concerns?
♡ It'd take him a few days to note down your nervous habits and faces
♡ Might get you a fidget toy or something you were using in the human world to cope with overwhelming emotions
♡ He'd try to shush his brothers multiple times before they quiet down around you
♡ When other demons come up to you, he'd spell freeze them before they could touch you and tell you to company him to go somewhere else
♡ If you want, he'd make a schedule for you to follow
♡ Basically he'd be protecting you but lowkey, kinda
. . . M A M M O N !
♡ The human's..what?
♡ He'd have trouble not touching the human, like in crowds or when he's teasing them like a tap on the shoulder
♡ Mammon's loud by nature so being less loud suddenly would annoy him quite a tad
♡ He won't tell you directly but he'd clear his throat when Lucifer sends sharp eyes his way
♡ He'd try to read about your condition in private in Lucifer's study, you're not...like other humans or that little girl he met so how should he be around you?
♡ He'd puff up his chest to anyone that says you're rude or dumb for not reading the room or hints around you, none can talk to you like that!
♡ He'd check up with texts if you're alone or not around him
♡ He'd have study days with you when you need help, he's really there for spending time with you
♡ Might leave gifts next your door after a bad day
. . . L E V I A T H A N !
♡ His first impression of you? Awkward as hell and a bit slow, he forgot about what Lucifer told him about you when you actually were in the living room
♡ Mentally sneered at you when you couldn't get the social cues the first few times but when he got back to his room, his face fell to the ground, shit...
♡ He'd try to be careful around you, maybe with changing the tv volume to a lower amount when you come to his room and then it becomes a habit, low sound with captions on all the time
♡ He'd text you to come over with an excuse when you're in a uncomfortable situation with his brothers or other demons
♡ Would smack Mammon if he tries to hold your hand in public when crowds appear
♡ If any demon makes fun of you behind your back and he hears? Ohhh haha! he's so posting all their private stuff online, their fails, gross secrets, sex tapes with RAD teachers, they're not safe from him
♡ Would get you a monthly gift because RAD sucks enough and well he'd still feel guilty about what he thought before
♡ Might have late show/movie nights when you can't sleep

The OM! Boys + their reaction to you walking into the room naked
My HC for this may be slightly different than the tiktok challenge (I assume that’s what you’re referring to), but hopefully you still enjoy!
(MC/Reader is GN)
Lucifer:
He doesn’t bother looking up when you step into his study--too absorbed in his current work. He needs to read through the proposal on his desk and have the signed papers to Diavolo by morning, and it’s already nearing midnight.
“Lucifer.”
“Hmm?” He doesn’t give you his attention, at first. He’s used to you coming to check on him when it gets late, pestering him about coming to bed and getting some much needed shut-eye. “I’ll join you shortly. I need to finish up here.”
“Lucifer,” you try again, tone a little annoyed. He pauses at that, not used to hearing you upset. He sets his pen down with a sigh--gloved hand combing through his dark hair.
“Yes, Y/N, what--,” his voice cuts off as his gaze finally finds you. You’re leaning against the doorframe to the room, arms hugged in front of you, and a playful look in your eyes.
There’s not a shred of clothing on your body.
Seeing that you have his attention, you don’t bother saying anything. Simply watch his reaction--loving the way his crimson eyes widen in shock.
However, it doesn’t take him long to recover. He presses to his feet, and steps around the wooden desk, a handsome grin on his lips.
As he approaches you, his demon form materializes without warning.
“You’re lucky that I could use a break,” he tells you, hooking a finger beneath your chin and forcing you to face him. There’s a sadistic glint in his gaze, one that has you swallowing the saliva pooling in your mouth.
“But don’t think I’ll be kind. As much as I’m thrilled to see you present yourself to me like this, next time, you need to be patient. Now--,” his wings flutter, and you gasp as he cages you against the door. His fingers curl around your throat.
“Prepare yourself.”
Mammon:
He’s in the middle of looking up “get rich quick” schemes on his DDD when you enter his room without knocking.
“Oh~” he greets lazily, not bothering to turn away from his current task. He knows it’s you, because you’d messaged him earlier, asking if he was free, and alone.
He had assumed that you just wanted to spend some one-on-one time with The Great Mammon, and who could blame you?
“Mammon,” you call, a purr to your voice that makes the Avatar of Greed pause. Turning away from his DDD, he looks over and sees you leaning over his pool table, with your palms pressed against the edge of the wooden surface.
You’re...stark naked.
He can’t see your ahem nether region thanks to the height of the table, but he can see the tops of your hips, and there’s a very clear lack of underwear.
“Wh--!” his hand flies to cover his mouth, a brilliant blush blooming on his face. “Where are your clothes?!”
You blink innocently. “I figured you might like this type of surprise. But if I’m wrong~”
You fake a disappointed sigh, turning and acting like you’re going to exit his room.
Immediately Mammon is on his feet and vaulting over the pool table (quite literally). His arms wrap around your torso, hugging you protectively back against his chest. You can already feel that he’s semi-hard as his pelvis rubs against your ass.
“I...of course I like it,” he mumbles, pressing a soft kiss to your neck. “Ya just surprised me, is all…”
You giggle, lifting a hand to pet through his hair. “Would you like me to stay, then?”
His arms wrap tighter around you, teeth nipping at the skin of your throat. “As if I would let ya go anywhere looking like this, silly human...you’re staying here tonight.”
Levi:
When you excuse yourself in the middle of the game the two of you are playing, saying something about needing the bathroom, Levi doesn’t think much of it.
His attention is solely on the screen of his computer, concentration through the roof as he completes the boss battle without your help (he really hadn’t needed your aid, anyway. He just loved spending time with you in person, and in game.)
Levi is in the middle of picking up all the rewards the boss had dropped following its defeat, so he doesn’t notice you return to the room.
“Levi.”
Blinking, the Avatar of Envy glances over his shoulder, hearing your voice behind him. The moment he catches sight of naked body, his brain short circuits.
With a surprised yelp, he instinctively swivels in his chair to face you, but his headphones catch--yanking his head back, and effectively making a mess of everything as the taut cord shoves an army of gingerly placed figurines from atop his desk.
Perhaps you should have waited for him to get his new wireless headphones from Akuzon before attempting this trend with him…
“Oh dear,” you sigh, an embarrassed blush spreading on your face as you survey the damage you’ve done. Levi is the same color as a tomato, his wide orange gaze shifting between your naked body, and the ceiling. Like if he stares at you too long, he’ll self-destruct.
“I’m sorry,” you say after a moment, sighing. “I thought surprising you might have been fun, but…”
Your voice trails off, a shiver raking up your spine as you feel something slick curl around your ankle. When you look down, you note it’s Levi’s tail. His demon form has materialized without you realizing.
“No, i-it’s fine…,” you see him swallow harshly, his tail continuing to wind up your leg. He tugs you forward, closer to him. His hands hover near your waist, his eyes soaking in the sight of you. You can see a tent beginning to form in his pants. “Can I touch you?”
You nod, and in the next beat, he’s all over you.
Satan:
Per usual, he’s engrossed in a novel, so he doesn’t notice your disappearance behind a particularly large stack of books. Nor does he hear the sound of you shedding your clothes.
Thankfully, he can’t miss the sound of his name falling from your lips.
“Satan.”
He turns his gaze away from the book, pausing when he sees you standing a few feet in front of him, completely nude.
His eyebrows raise high on his forehead, grin tugging at his lips. Silently, he moves to place the book face-down on the arm of the chair.
His obvious satisfaction at your surprise has you unable to stop yourself from smiling.
“Like what you see?”
“You could say that.”
He presses to his feet and makes his way towards you--emerald eyes soaking in every inch of your revealed skin. When he finally reaches your side, his hands immediately reach out to grip your waist. His fingers give you a gentle squeeze.
“Is there some special occasion I should know about?” he asks, chuckling. You shake your head, reaching up to cup his face. His smile widens at the action, gaze falling to your lips.
“No occasion. I just wanted to see how you would react.”
“And is my reaction what you were hoping for?”
You lean in, connecting your lips with his. “Mhm~”
The two of you share a few kisses, before Satan is backing you into one of the many bookshelves, his knee slotting between your legs.
He leans in, mouth hot against your ear.
“Getting the full experience of my reaction may take a few hours, just so you know.”
Asmo:
The Avatar of Lust has never heard of the human world challenge, same as his brothers, but he’s always more than open to seeing you naked, that’s for sure!
So, when you excuse yourself in the middle of your study-session--returning a minute later, and calling out his name so playfully--he’s thrilled at what he finds.
“Ooo~! Look at you!” He starts fanning himself, leaning back in his chair as he regards you with rapt attention. His honey colored eyes drag from the top of your head, all the way down to your feet, and back again.
“Will you turn for me?” He asks, biting his lip. You’re tempted to roll your eyes, but do as he asks--slowly rotating yourself so he’s able to see every inch of your nude skin.
“Gosh, you should absolutely do this more often.” There’s a slight groan to his voice, a show of his satisfaction at your bold present.
“If I did, I have the feeling I’d never leave your room,” you respond with a laugh. Asmo jumps to his feet, making his way to your side. His fingertips roam over the skin of your arms, and he leans in to kiss you.
“Did you want to continue our study-session like this, or should I clear the bed?”
You smile against him. “I’ll leave that up to you.”
Asmo giggles, and before you know it, he has detached himself from you. He works quickly to clear his mattress of any notebooks, and loose papers.
“Shame on you for tempting me like this, when I’ve got a test coming up soon,” he scolds you, but there’s no real anger in his voice. Once the bed has been cleared, Asmo crawls atop the plush sheets and settles on his side, staring at you with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
He beckons you with a roll of his finger. “Come here, darling.”
And you’d be a fool to disobey the Avatar of Lust’s command.
Beel:
He has invited you over to watch his favorite cooking show, but you’d left during the commercial break to go and grab some snacks (the ones he had already prepared long gone--filling his stomach).
It only takes you a few minutes to return, but since the program has started up again on the TV screen, Beel doesn’t bother looking up at the sound of the door opening.
“Y/N, hurry, they’re finishing up the dish,” he says, mouth practically watering. You silently make your way to his bed, dropping the snacks beside him. He mindlessly reaches for a bag of chips, attention still on the TV.
“Beel,” you finally speak. For the first time since your return, his purple eyes shift to look at you.
What he finds has the chip between his lips falling onto the sheets--his newly opened snack forgotten about. His adam’s apple bobs against his throat as he swallows, and you squeal in surprise as he suddenly reaches out--dragging you into him.
You end up straddling his lap, one of his large hands gripping your waist, while the other moves to cradle the back of your head.
Just like that, his favorite program is forgotten about.
“Itadakimasu,” he grumbles, mouth connecting with your shoulder.
He doesn’t question your lack of clothing--doesn’t need to know the reasoning for your current actions.
All he knows is that you taste better than his snacks, and are more entertaining than the cooking program.
Besides, he can catch the rerun later.
Belphie:
You decide to surprise him while attempting to wake him up from a nap.
After entering his room, you carefully shed your clothes, and then approach the side of his bed. He’s thoroughly snuggled beneath the covers, just his eyes, and messy hair peeking out from beneath the piles of blankets.
“Belphie,” you call out quietly, shaking his shoulder.
He groans, pulling away from your hand. His eyes don’t open, his groggy brain not ready to be awake yet.
“5 more minutes.”
You breathe a laugh, posing a hand on your hip. “Belphie, look at me.”
Despite not wanting to be awake, the Avatar of Sloth begrudgingly cracks his eyes open. His gaze falls on you, and you can see his eyes widen ever so slightly--the cogs in his brain beginning to move.
He stares at you for a few long seconds, eyes trailing the length of your naked body.
“Hehe~,” he extends his arms, the covers folding down as he reaches out and makes a grabbing motion at you, revealing the grin on his face.
You laugh, but nonetheless step forward into his waiting hands. Immediately he’s tugging you onto the bed beside him.
“Can you start waking me up like this from now on?” he asks, folding your head beneath his chin. His fingertips roam across back, settling near your waist.
“I have a feeling that if I do, we won’t ever actually get out of bed.”
He chuckles at your words, mouth moving to your ear. His teeth tug at your earlobe, and you can’t help but shiver.
“Hopefully that’s not an issue, because I don’t plan on letting you go now that you’re here.”
Solomon:
Despite being a magically inclined human, Solomon is a human nonetheless, so he’s aware of the tiktok challenge.
However, he never actually expects anyone to do it to him.
You’re chilling in his room at Purgatory Hall when he excuses himself to go and fetch a beverage. When he returns, he finds you right where you had been when he’d left--lounging atop his bed, on your stomach--but all of your clothes have disappeared.
For a half second, he wonders if he’d forgotten about a spell he’d cast on you as a prank. However, judging by the teasing grin on your face, and the glint in your eyes, your clothes have disappeared of your own volition.
Then, he remembers the tiktok trend.
“My apologies for not rushing to jump your bones like many of the men do in those videos.”
He walks over and calmly places the coffee mug in his hand on the nightstand. The bed dips a moment later as he moves to join you on the mattress.
However, rather than settle down beside you, he grips your shoulder and rolls you onto your back. Solomon then leans over you, caging you in as he lowers himself just inches from your face.
“While I may not have reacted like you expected, I’m more than happy to give you the same outcome.”
You grin up at him. “Which is?”
He smiles mischievously, his fingertips moving to dance across your ribs. You can feel magic buzzing on his skin.
“I think you know.”
Simeon:
Nothing can prepare Simeon for the moment he swivels around at his desk--his name falling from your lips, and beckoning his attention.
You’re over for a study date, and had excused yourself to the restroom for a moment.
“Yes, Y/N--?” his voice catches when he spots you there--standing in the doorway to his bathroom in all of your glory.
The Angel’s heart feels like it may beat straight out of his chest, his mind momentarily blue-screening as he stares at you.
“Wow,” he eventually breathes, raising a gloved hand to cover his blushing face. Despite obviously being flustered, his gaze still roams across you--only his mouth and cheeks hidden from view.
“Despite being a celestial, you’re truly the angel among the two of us.”
That gets you blushing, your arms hugging at your sides. Seeing you turn pink at his words has Simeon feeling a bit bolder, and he presses to his feet, moving to join you.
His arms wrap around you, pulling you into a tight hug, and he presses a kiss to your forehead.
“You’re so beautiful.”
“No you,” you mumble in response, pouting up at him, and wondering how he’d managed to turn the tables on you so easily. Simeon only laughs, leaning in to connect your lips.
“Thank you...shall we move to the bed?”
Oh.
“Yes, please.”
Diavolo:
Diavolo had been informed by Barbatos at the end of the student council meeting that you were waiting in his office for him.
Without a second thought, he had left to find you--assuming you wanted to talk about sometime in private with him. Which, honestly, he didn’t mind in the least, considering you were always good company.
However, the last thing he expects to find when he steps into his office is you, sitting behind his desk, in his oversized leather chair...completely nude.
You fold your hands onto the wood, smiling at him.
“Good evening.”
There’s a playful glint in your eye, one that has Diavolo’s initial shock wearing off quickly--replaced with amused interest instead.
Closing the door behind him, the Demon Prince slowly makes his way around the desk.
“Is there something you need to tell me about?”
“Oh, no, I just wanted to surprise you,” you giggle, gasping when Diavolo suddenly reaches out and secures your waist.
He lifts you out of the black chair, seating you on his desk, and stepping between your spread legs. A blush dusts your cheeks, eyes widening as his grip slides down to your hips--his handsome face just inches from yours.
“Well, I certainly enjoy this type of surprise.” Diavolo grips your chin with his fingers, and guides you into a soft kiss.
“Perhaps you should surprise me like this after school hours more often.”
Barbatos:
While staying the weekend at the Demon Lord’s Castle, you volunteer to get up early and help the royal butler prepare breakfast. It’s a large job, considering the brothers, and other exchange students are staying over as well.
“Good morning, Barbatos,” you greet, stepping into the spacious kitchen. The butler, standing in front of the stove, takes a moment before turning to address you.
“Good morn--,” he begins, but pauses when he sees your state of dress. Or, rather, undress, considering you’re wearing absolutely nothing.
A light blush dusts his cheeks, and he coughs to clear his throat.
“Have you misplaced your clothing? It’s not wise to cook in such a state.”
“I just wanted to see your reaction,” you respond with a laugh, stepping further into the room. He notices that your clothes are bundled in your arms.
“Well, perhaps it is a good way to start the day off,” he comments, smiling as his eyes roam over your figure.
Then, he’s moving away, walking to the edge of the kitchen to retrieve something you can’t quite see. When he returns to your side, you note that he’s holding a plain, white apron.
“I hardly mind such a sight to accompany the breakfast preparation, but I’d prefer if you not injure yourself.”
He slides the neck of the apron over your head, and then moves to your back--tightly securing the ties. You shiver when his gloved hand traces the length of your spine.
He smiles charmingly at the reaction.
“Shall we get to work?”

Hello 😊 I was just wondering if you could write a post about the written side of a storytelling simblr? Not just writing realistic dialogue but also having writing that show motivation, conflict, development, etc. without it being too little/too much and having it be natural. What do you think good writing on a simblr looks/sounds like? This would be helpful since I find this kinda hard. Hope this makes sense to you haha
hi!! om i can try my best, but i can only give tips I personally use 🕴🏼 ill put it under the cut! : D
here's some tutorials I like:
how to write verbal arguments
subverse chekhov's gun
convey info without shoehorning (this is top tier info i swear, i use it often aka all the time)
overall, i wish I could offer more dialogue help : /. for me, it's first writing a 'draft' of my dialogue, saying it out loud, make changes as I say it out loud, more changes until I finally like it.
i also have a specific tone for my story; what I mean it's I want my dialogue to be easily grasped when first read. nothing extremely complicated with a lot of interruptions or a very long monologue by just one character. i do this because this is what I like to read !! so why would I want to make my story something I wouldn't personally enjoy to read somewhere else, u know?
when i have a hard writing dialogue, being because I can't think of anything or I need to make changes but I don't know to what, I just take a break. clear my head, make something else, then come back to it. there's been instances where I've had to literally act out scenes (literally any emotionally charged convo) so I can make it as natural as possible.
my literal best advice is to put yourself in your character's shoes, you know them better than anyone !!!! not all your characters will talk to the same way or react the same to the same thing! also grab inspo from irl conversations or tv shows!! notice how exchanges work between two characters or more and how many lines are exchanged !!! AND keep in mind the relationship between two characters. if u follow my story, u can probably notice that say, amelia doesn't talk to oliver the same way she does to emilia. their level of closeness, intimacy, etc!!!!!!
but i do rec the shoehorning tip from earlier its 100% something i avoid all the time on it being obvious.

Hey! Sorry to bother you with a second ask but i thought this one would be cool. Fluffy headcanons of the demon brothers watching scary movies with MC??? Somewhere MC gets scared, and some where they don't? Thanks again!! :)
It’s no bother!! I love getting requests from you guys! The more, the merrier. I sort of hc that the brothers and MC do have movie night every week or so and with them being demons, they tend to levitate towards the horror genre. Thank you for sending this, this is really cute :)))
Without further ado—-
————————————
The Brothers watching Scary movies with MC:
Lucifer:
-Haha mf already knows how this is going to end
-He warned you, he really did
-The horror movies DevilDom has to offer are nothing, and I mean nothing, like the ones from the human world
-I’m not going to go into detail but imagine Two Girls One Cup, in a less kinky and more gorey way (then times that by 10)
-But you were adamant into giving it a go and he literally could not deny you in that moment
-Because you were giving him the puppy eyes
-That’s like, the finishing blow you use every time to get your way with him and as far as you know it’s the only one that works so-
-He expected your reaction to the last second
-You were traumatised for lack of a better word and you were basically watching the whole film through the cracks between your fingers
-Seeing you in that state was like a punch in the gut but he couldn’t stop himself from throwing in a subtle ‘I told you so’
-“I told you watching something like this before bed is a bad idea, MC.”
-He might be a bit condescending and judgemental at first, but he’s probably going to baby you a bit for the rest of the night
-Because he feels bad he allowed you to watch it in the first place
-HAHAHAHA SOFT LUCIFER HAS BEEN SUMMONED, USE HIM WISELY
-He will start muttering words of comfort to you later because he’s certain you’re going to have trouble sleeping
-Because of that one time, he’s very hesitant to let you watch another horror film anytime soon
-But he will relent eventually (especially if you want to watch a human horror film as those are technically less extreme)
-If it makes you happy, he will go through with it, even if he has to let you cling onto him for the rest of the day
-Besides, the way you cuddle into him while you’re watching a horror film is very cute and endearing to him
Mammon:
-Ah yes, the most effective method of waking up the entire House of Lamentation at 3:00 am
-Mammon screaming his own vocal cords out in his room as he tries to get through his human’s favourite horror movie without dying of a heart attack
-It was his idea because he’s definitely the type to go: “Yeah let’s do this, it will be fun. Don’t get too scared alright MC? The Great Mammon will be here to protect ya.”
-And then ten minutes in, he’s basically in your lap
-Half an hour in, he turned himself into a demon burrito with his blankets
-You were enjoying the movie, laughing at the stupid sound effects and poor quality while Mammon next to you has wrapped himself in like two dozen blankets and pillows
-“Mammon you’re going to overheat.”
-“Don’t be silly human, I’m a demon who lives in hell. I can take high temperatures the same way I can take this damn movie!”
-He doesn’t take either of them well
-Mammon and the horror genre don’t mix well together to begin with
-So even if you might enjoy horror, he doesn’t react well to it at all
-And he’ll be low-key relieved if you tell him you guys don’t have to watch any sort of horror film for your date night
-“Well I guess if you don’t want to, then we don’t have to. Can’t make my human do something they’re uncomfortable with eh?”
-But if you do watch a scary movie with him, be sure to show any sort of physical affection to him as often as possible
-You don’t have to say anything, just hold his hand or let him put his head in your lap or something
-It might stop him from screeching like a female sloth in heat
-The last time that happened, his brothers weren’t too pleased with him
-They about to recreate the horror film scenes onto him, bring the popcorn have fun
Levi:
-For some reason, I feel like he doesn’t get scared easily while watching stuff
-I mean, after decades of obsessively watching animes with brutal character deaths (like Attack on Titan style) and grotesque horror games that are pretty nasty even to demons, let alone humans;
-A horror film, from the human world or even DevilDom, doesn’t do much for him
-It will have to have very good psychological horror in it if you want the hairs on his arms to stand up in anticipation
-Tension is a big deal for him and he will immediately shut off the TV if there are any cheap jump scares
-But, if you manage to find just the right thing for him?
-You’ll both be hiding under the bed in no time under the bathtub more like
-Hell, if the film you’re watching is that good, he might even be holding onto you for dear life without realising it and getting flustered about it
-For weeks afterwards, any sound that is remotely similar to one from that movie will probably send both of you into panic
-You came to his room one night because you’ve had a nightmare about the stupid film and legitimately thought there was a fucking demon serial killer in your room
-So you wanted to stay in his
-“But what if there is a serial killer in your room and now you just led it to me MC????”
-It’s all jokes, there’s no question he would lock both of you in his room and then stay there with you wide awake until dawn
-You’re his best friend after all, he would have to be completely heartless to leave you on your own! (Besides Levi is terrifying when he wants to be)
-One time you were sleeping over and the sound of fumbling woke you tf up
-And Levi immediately turned into his demon form, like he was ready to throw hands with this fictional murderer that supposedly sneaked into his room
-“DON’T WORRY MC, I’LL PROTECT YOU!”
-“Ah never mind, it’s just Mammon breaking into your room again to steal your Ruri-Cham figurines and sell them on Akuzon.”
-“Oh OK.”
-“.....”
-“WAIT MAMMON WTF YOU FUCKING SCUMBAG, GET OUT OF MY ROOM-“
-I’m playing Minecraft
Satan:
-Believe it or not, Satan doesn’t care much about horror movies
-Don’t get me wrong, he loves watching his brothers shit their pants out of fear in the middle of one while he silently smirks to himself because watching other people suffer brings him euphoria
-Especially if someone actually manages to find a film that is excellent enough to spook Lucifer, because then he will be cackLING
-But, overall, he watches a lot of shows revolved around drama and crime
-That’s his thing
-However, he won’t turn you down if you’re up to watching a scary movie with him
-Any time spent with you is valuable time seeing as it won’t be long before his brothers start hogging you again like the cockblockers they are
-He is honestly surprised to find out you seem to be rather amused by those sort of movies
-So, even if it’s not inherently something he does on the regular, he would definitely watch a scary film with you if you enjoy them that much
-But in exchange, he makes you promise to read with him until bedtime rolls around (imagine Lucifer having a fucking curfew for his brothers and you lmao)
-So for the rest of night you guys just read together, ya know, like sappy romantics
-Tbh, this man will do almost anything with you as long as both of you are having fun
-He knows it’s not likely, but he insists on sleeping in the same room that night just in case you have nightmares and he needs to comfort you
- :)
-Satan is a gentleman. Idk how many people that don’t play OM expected to hear this
Asmo:
-Why would you want to watch a movie when you could be watching him???
-I mean, you would rather watch all that gory stuff on the TV than his beautiful face?
-He may get salty over a fucking movie tbh
-Horror films aren’t something he generally looks for while trying to pick a movie to watch
-He can definitely handle them better than Mammon but it’s not something he takes great pleasure in watching
-But the first time he ever sits down with you to watch one, he’s very intrigued to see your reactions
-You started feeling the sensation of absolute dread creep in at the very beginning and you were trying your best to act like you weren’t getting affected by what you saw on the screen
-But you were
-You went from “I’m grown ass adult, I can watch a fucking horror movie, no problem.”
-To “Welp, not enough of a grown ass adult for this-“
-And Asmo thought the way you tried to hide your nervousness was very mesmerising in a way
-He was planning on flirting with you during the movie anyway, but now that you were pressing himself against him?
-Oh boy, Oh boy
-“Darling if you wanted to touch me, you could’ve just said so. Making the excuse of watching a movie is unnecessary.”
-Nightmares? What nightmares? You won’t have time to have nightmares ;)
-haHAHA funny inappropriate joke
-It’s Asmo, it’s mandatory to have at least one of those added in here
Beel:
-Beel will show up if there’s food and that’s that
-He doesn’t care what type of movie is playing on the TV as long as he has a bucket of popcorn next to him at all times
-Horror films aren’t something he can’t handle, he’s a demon like the rest of his brothers and he is used to...violent deaths and such
-He doesn’t get scared but there are times where he gets attached to the characters
-Especially movies with actual good and not cringeworthy dialogue
-Therefore, when they die, he gets sad even if they’re just fictional and their death had no real impact
-He also thinks that the way you can watch these things without flinching is impressive
-I mean, he can watch it and so can his brothers because they are demons
-They’ve done worse things than the things you see in horror films
-But you’re a human! So it’s weird to see you watch a person get repeatedly slammed against a wall until their neck snaps without batting an eyelid
-Overall, he does not have an opinion on scary movies
-He gets a bit emotional when a character he really liked dies
-But other than that, he’s just focused on eating
-And occasionally patting your head affectionately
Belphie:
-He doesn’t really like horror films because there’s a lot of screaming and tense music and he’s just trying to nap in your lap (rhyme)
-He doesn’t really need sound effects like that in the background while he’s trying to sleep
-But one day he was like “Hey, what if I show my favourite human this particular scary film?”
-And he did
-And he’s internally dying and feeling guilty and yet so flustered because of you
-It’s like you suddenly turn into this very fidgety and anxious mess and he thinks you just look....cute
-At some point you were getting overwhelmed and sprung up on your feet to turn the lights on
-And he just grabbbed your wrists, pulled you down next to him and let you press your head against his chest
-As mentioned, he’s a little shit and will tease you for being such a scaredy cat
-“That was the most predictable jumpscare and you still flinched, wth is wrong with you lmao.”
-But at the same time....
-“Relax. It’s just a horror movie. You’ll be fine. Besides, I’m here. Like I would let something bad happen to you.”
-That’s sweet, even if the tone of voice may not imply it because he’s such a brat-
-He actually really likes holding you for once, because usually he’s the little spoon
-He’s still a bit of a sadist so I imagine him sitting there and watching this while giggling to himself
-Isn’t he the cutest, laughing at other people’s misery and their never ending suffering?🥺🥺🥺 UwU
-Ah well, at least he has the decency to spoil with affection afterwards and make sure you have no nightmares that night
-You know, as payback for the horrific shit he made you watch with no warning
————————————
OK, I think I made a decent job of this even though it took longer than it actually was meant to. Thank you for reading though. I’ve got so many requests to go through and I’ve been feeling motivated lately so yeah!
See you soon

can you talk about chlark beyond chloe? personally i think it's weird that the writers kept adding kisses and weird romantic moments without any pay off. i don't know much about the fandom back then but i think the writers were baiting fans since clark/chloe seems to be the second most popular ship after clex. second i personally think chloe would never be happy with clark or anyone tbh and she doesn't seem like the type of person who would have kids so the finale was weird to me.
this got looooong :)
0. it WAS weird, and the choice to never not once go for it with them was to the story's detriment. I'll get into it a little later on in this post.
Re: shipping in sv fandom. there was definitely drama (clana was HUGE when the show was airing and every ship was basically derailed by it lol) but I stayed in my clois lane with a small circle of fandom friends much like I do now. a good measure of clois fans were fans of lois and clark from other mediums, come to sv just for lois and clark, myself included. we were pretty insulated as a fandom even back then. I do remember seeing more Chlark after the S5 finale (when Chloe kisses him goodbye), but those dropped off after Jimmy was introduced right away in S6. The most drama I encountered was with Chloisers: Chloe fans who believed wholeheartedly that Chloe was Lois. They hated SV!Lois and were convinced she would die so Chloe could take her name and job and place by Clark's side, thus a Chlark endgame. this was a popular theory amongst that fandom even into s9, when the clois ball started to roll for true.
bait and switch
a lot of Chlark is rooted in this notion that chloe WOULD be the best thing for Clark, the ideal Lois, the true best friend, the human hand guiding him through Earth's troubles. she would be could be the BEST possible lois archetype for Clark. it's not a wrong interpretation. she was specifically written as a lois-and-lana-proxy (teenage lana is a reporter in some AUs and even some as an adult as a tv correspondent) and she's given many lois-ish traits (tenacious, secretly crushing on clark and in denial), but this interpretation is deeply flawed. first, because lois does eventually enter into the picture and she has her own defining traits that, when compared to chloe, make chloe seem much shallower than realized. secondly, within the complete context of the story, her position in the greater narrative is not as ~the one who got away, the way it did very early on in S1-S4, but one who clark tolerates.
they're friends because clark is forgiving and chloe has staying power. their friendship is riddled with insecurities and unknowns the characters create for themselves. their dynamic is defined by conflict, not resolutions. this is not made easy by the fact that chloe is such a strangely written character, but ultimately she is positioned as a counter to clark achieving his happiness. not a thematic narrative foil but an obstacle clark eventually relents to.
2. and it has been so from the get-go
S1 is the best season for them and the single season which actually considers Clark's side in this dynamic. everything about them later on can be explained with how they are in this season. and that's the problem. when they're 14 it's nice teen angst drama and works perfectly to establish the dynamic. when they're 24 it's at best a pattern, at worst regression. we expect certain behaviors, dismiss them too, when it's children, at least I do. clark and chloe never move beyond the dynamic they establish in s1 and early s2. in essence, clark and chloe remain children around each other. they have many discussions in the later seasons that make at least one appear petulant.
so S1 clark has just been told the greatest secret of his existence and he imprints on lana hard that same night (right AFTER jonathan tells him, he meets lana at the graveyard and talks to her for the first time EVER, a lot of childhood imprinting going on in SV). all of s1 follows clark's heartache over lana, watching her from afar and figuring out a way to be near her. this pain is exacerbated by the fact that he believes he caused her her greatest grief: the death of her parents via the meteor shower which he arrived in.
here the first beat of the chlark dynamic is established: chloe's job and passion – the wall of weird and her pursuing the meteor infected oddities of SV - directly affects clark in a negative way (he's suicidal for much of s1-s3). so her crush on him is countered with her unknowingly causing him great grief. om top of that: clark becomes part of this passion of hers and she eventually begins to pursue him as a story to be uncovered, very superman yes. here tho, it causes nothing but strife for them and paints chloe in an awful light (and clark too, highlighting his refusal to open up). I personally enjoy this aspect of them in s1. bc they're so young I give em a free pass and it's a good conflict playing around with old superman tropes, but it makes for a fraught friendship.
3. the second beat
is that neither chloe's crush on clark, nor his asking her to stop pursuing his truth, do anything to stay her. her tenaciousness becomes intrusiveness and inconsideration (many of her accomplishments irt the daily planet are directly bc she betrays clark). she simply will not listen to her friend and does not believe his livelihood and autonomy is worth losing a story over. this is literally the opposite of comics/live action lois lane, who in various versions drops the clark reveal story to protect him. this passion turns vindictive pretty early for chloe, who eventually pursues stories about clark out of jealousy and entitlement (against lana also).
4. the third beat
is that clark doesn't ever see chloe as romantic prospect except this time in s1. the tornado trapping lana pulls him away from any solidifying of the clark/chloe dynamic, and that's that. but we know clark was willing to go for it in early s2 when he apologizes to chloe about running off on her. it's chloe who decides not to go on with the relationship. clark is visibly confused, but also 15 so he can't see that chloe is putting on a brave front to protect herself from clark running off again. I liked this too as it's another play on superman tropes, but my sympathy for them stops here.
5. and stays here
these beats are the entirety of this dynamic. everything about chlark can be distilled down to their childhood. it's why I don't hate them completely, bc I have a lot of love for kids who hurt in such a way and that time is never easy. in s8 (I think its s8) when we get a flashback to when they meet as kids (more imprinting!). little tenacious cute chloe kisses insecure clark bc of the funny awkward tension, acknowledging it, and then immediately takes it back because they're better as friends. (also they’re like 11 lol)
every single romantic moment with them is undercut either by chloe herself, or by the presence of other storylines/romances the writers wanted to pursue. the lack of integrity in chloe and the lack of interest in clark, regardless of how sincere their connection or how messed up, is a central part of their dynamic that needs to be reconciled with their friendship. and its exhausting bc there is never a point they are ever truly comfortable around each other.
6. to a fault
knowing the secret doesn't change chloe's methods. it doesn't make chloe clark's great confidante. if anything, it complicates matters for both because their relationship then becomes about the greater good and clark's great destiny. everything chloe does becomes about that, which in theory sounds awesome, but is executed much the same way as s1!chlark: by reiterating behaviors that highlight the negative aspects of that loyalty and the negative aspects of their characters.
the single time they do actively examine what this loyalty means and how chloe's hero complex complicates things for chlark is with s8 and davis. she protects davis with the skills of subterfuge and secrecy she developed as clark's friend. and it costs her jimmy and a lot of her personal integrity as a character. tho ironically it makes chloe the strongest she's been as a character. this is the first time clark is forced to view chloe as an enemy and he never quite recovers from discovering the dark depths she’s willing to go to.
it's an arc dealing with the established beats: how far chloe is willing to go for a kryptonian (very far), how much she's willing to do for him (A LOT and all of it illegal), and what it costs her (jimmy). it deals with her jealousy (always second choice) and her motivations (uncovering the truth). this great want that she struggled with for years is turned on its head and examined, revealing just how weird and dark her hero complex is because obviously davis is not clark. davis/chloe served to highlight more than any other arc how it's really too bad that clark never saw her that way, because she has so much love to give and when channeled, it's a great force. only it's a great force for evil. clark has to confront that it’s not just lex but his other closest friend who is willing to go so far. they backtrack hard in s9 and s10 but they keep this underlying wariness in clark towards Chloe throughout. it’s not anything new, but it’s no longer subtext that clark doesn’t fully trust chloe.
7. And that's the rub
in the end. chloe and clark have many storylines they're in together and chloe's important.... to develop clark and as a counter to clark. clark never instigates anything, not once, for 9 years! when the show did give us Moments TM, clark is reacting, not actively making choices to connect to her. if anything, clark is incredibly awkward about chloe when they become intimate. he doesn't seem to know what to do with her crushing on him (the elevator scene is a great one to show just how awkward chloe makes him feel). more than that. clark never tells her his secret. and later on, chloe doesn't tell him half the crazy wild shit she does to protect him bc she knows he would disapprove. I still hold that the only reason they work is bc clark is a forgiving character and would give her chance after chance after chance. that's the watsonian explanation, but the doylist explanation is that the writers just never cared to explore them beyond this point.
8. and what was beyond that point?
they would've been a great counter to lexana in S6 and early clana (clark finally having a gf who knows). it’s playing the clark/Chloe as a straight lois/clark proxy before actually pursuing lois and clark. it could’ve been the precursor to davis and caused an even more personal conflict! the kiss at the end of s5 was their chance. they could've written chlark devolving much the same way lexana did in s6 (or not). but again. the writers never went that far and clearly never wanted to. it kept chlark forever in this stage of childhood friendship always on the brink of collapsing, tittering either way. it's also tough to speculate bc clark's just not into her. in fact he becomes more and more wary of her, to the point where he believes she can do horrible things, and he's right. the stories continually make their methods complete opposite.
they go out of their way to show chloe realizing how happy clark is with lois. and even play a joke on the fandom by literally turning her into lois and seeing the sparks between her friends. it's almost... cruel but it does serve to show how clark is when he's smitten and he's never looked at chloe that way except during the dance when they were kids. other unrequited dynamics have at least some spark from the desired, but nil from clark. clark is into chloe in late s1, but she shuts him down, and when he seems to be into her again (damn that s5 kiss was a good one lol), she shuts him down again. it's just a weird writing choice all around, and that they kept nuggets of it throughout the show is the thing I cringe at most whenever I rewatch.
9. bait and switch 2
with hindsight it is definitely ship baiting and that sucks for that dynamic bc without it their friendship would’ve been the stronger, or at least not full of so much negativity. all it did was remind everyone that chloe’s been duped since she was a kid and that clark is both stupid and strange for never noticing and letting her get away with shit just bc she’s the most loyal. I don’t ship them and even I get frustrated lol

As a nonbinary bisexual, I’m no stranger to people erasing me and telling me that I’m something I’m not. With the rise of terms like “pansexuality” and “omnisexuality,” many people unfamiliar with the true nature of bisexuality now think that it’s transphobic or otherwise binary — some go so far as to claim bisexuals only believe in two genders.
People assert that, while bisexuality allegedly means “attraction to two genders,” pansexuality and omnisexuality, unlike bisexuality, denote “attraction to all genders.” It’s easy to think this way if only examining the terms at face value, but this comparison is an outright lie. Some others say that new labels were a response to transphobic exclusion from the bisexual community — this is similarly not the case. (I’ll be compiling a piece on the history of the “pansexual” label at a later date.) Using this “reasoning” to separate bisexuality from these other terms is woefully inaccurate and disrespectful to bisexual and transgender people.
While there are cissexist definitions of bisexuality, that holds true for “gay” and “straight,” too. Bisexuals have also described our orientation as attraction regardless of gender¹ for decades — at least fifty years or so — and we still do. Before words like “transgender” and “nonbinary” came about, bisexuals still often saw themselves as attracted to people beyond gender.
Androgyny and gender-nonconformity are also a staple in bisexual culture. Major bisexual icons throughout history explored and embraced it. Look at bisexual chic, especially the glam rock era. Some bisexual activists and organizations have historically included and allied with transgender and nonbinary people, and many of us are transgender or nonbinary ourselves.
Below are just a few examples of the hidden secret of our gender-expansiveness. (Including a quote here does not equal my approval of what was said. Keep in mind the times during which they were recorded as well as the footnotes.)

“…the very wealth and humanity of bisexuality itself: for to exclude from one’s love any entire group of human beings because of class, age, or race or religion, or sex, is surely to be poorer — deeply and systematically poorer.”
— Kate Miller (1974)
“It’s easier, I believe, for exclusive heterosexuals to tolerate (and that’s the word) exclusive homosexuals than [bisexuals] who, rejecting exclusivity, sleep with people not genders…”
— Martin Duberman (1974)
“Margaret Mead in her Redbook magazine column wrote an article titled ‘Bisexuality: What’s It All About?’ in which she cited examples of bisexuality from the distant past as well as recent times, commenting that writers, artists, and musicians especially ‘cultivated bisexuality out of a delight with personality, regardless of race or class or sex.’”
— Janet Bode, “From Myth to Maturation,” View From Another Closet: Exploring Bisexuality in Women (1976)
“Being bisexual does not mean they have sexual relations with both sexes but that they are capable of meaningful and intimate involvement with a person regardless of gender.”
— Janet Bode, “The Pressure Cooker,” View From Another Closet (1976)
“A sex-change night club queen has claimed she had a bizarre love affair with rock superstar David Bowie. Drag artiste Ronny Haag said she lived with the bisexual singer while he was making his new film, “Just a Gigolo,” in Berlin. […] Ronny says: ‘I am a real woman.’”
— Kenelm Jenour, “I Was Bowie’s She-Man!”, Daily Mirror (1978)²
“[John] reacted emotionally to both sexes with equal intensity. ‘I love people, regardless of their gender,’ he told me.”
— Charlotte Wolff, “Early Influences,” Bisexuality, a Study (1979)
“On Saturday, February 9, San Francisco’s Bisexual Center will conduct a Gender/Sexuality Workshop. ‘We will explore the interrelationships of gender feelings and sexual preference… We will discuss sexuality and whether we choose to play out the gender role assigned to us by society or whether we can shift to attitudes supposedly held by the opposite gender, if those feel good to us. We will deal with the issue of the TV/TS [transvestite/transsexual] in transition and how sexuality evolves as gender role changes. We will attempt to present a summary of the fragmented and confusing information on gender and sexuality.’”
— The Gateway (1980)
“J: Are we ever going to be able to define what bisexuality is?
S: Never completely. That’s just it — the variety of lifestyles that we see between us defies definition.”
— “Conversations,” Bi Women: The Newsletter of the Boston Bisexual Women’s Network (1984)
“Bisexuality, however, is a valid sexual experience. While many gays have experienced bisexuality as a stage in reaching their present identity, this should not invalidate the experience of people for whom sexual & affectional desire is not limited by gender. For in fact many bisexuals experience lesbianism or homosexuality as a stage in reaching their sexual identification.
— Megan Morrison, “What We Are Doing,” Bi Women (1984)
“In the midst of whatever hardships we [bisexuals] had encountered, this day we worked with each other to preserve our gift of loving people for who they are regardless of gender.”
— Elissa M., “Bi Conference,” Bi Women (1985)
“I believe that people fall in love with individuals, not with a sex… I believe most of us will end up acknowledging that we love certain people or, perhaps, certain kinds of people, and that gender need not be a significant category, though for some of us it may be.”
— Ruth Hubbard, “There Is No ‘Natural’ Human Sexuality, Bi Women (1986)
“I am bisexual because I am drawn to particular people regardless of gender. It doesn’t make me wishy-washy, confused, untrustworthy, or more sexually liberated. It makes me a bisexual.”
— Lani Ka’ahumanu, “The Bisexual Community: Are We Visible Yet?” (1987)
“To be bisexual is to have the potential to be open emotionally and sexually to people as people, regardless of their gender.”
— Office Pink Publishing, “Introduction,” Bisexual Lives (1988)
“We made signs and slashes. My favorite read, ‘When it’s love in all its splendor, it doesn’t matter what the gender.’”
— Beth Reba Weise, “Being There and Being Bi: The National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights,” Bi Women (1988)
“…bisexual usually also implies that relations with gender minorities are possible.”
— Thomas Geller, Bisexuality: a Reader and Sourcebook (1990)
“Many objections have been raised to the use of [“bisexual”], the most common being that it emphasizes two things that, paradoxically, bisexuals are the least likely to be involved with: the dualistic separation of male and female in society, and the physical implications of the suffix ‘-sexual’.”
— Thomas Geller, Bisexuality: a Reader and Sourcebook (1990)
“Bisexuality is a whole, fluid identity. Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or duogamous in nature: that we have ‘two’ sides or that we must be involved simultaneously with both genders to be fulfilled human beings. In fact, don’t assume that there are only two genders.”
— The Bay Area Bisexual Network, “The 1990 Bisexual Manifesto,” Anything That Moves (1990)
“Bisexuality works to subvert the gender system and everything it upholds because it is not based on gender… Bisexuality subverts gender; bisexual liberation also depends on the subversion of gender categories.”
— Karin Baker and Helen Harrison, “Letters,” Bi Women (1990)
“I tell them, whether or not I use the word ‘bisexual,’ that I am proud of being able to express my feelings toward a person, regardless of gender, in whatever way I desire.”
— Naomi Tucker, “What’s in a Name?”, Bi Any Other Name (1991)³
“Some women who call themselves ‘bisexual’ insist that the gender of their lover is irrelevant to them, that they do not choose lovers on the basis of gender.”
— Marilyn Murphy, “Thinking About Bisexuality,” Bi Women (1991)
“Results supported the hypothesis that gender is not a critical variable in sexual attraction in bisexual individuals. Personality or physical dimensions not related to gender and interaction style were the salient characteristics on which preferred sexual partners were chosen, and there was minimal grid distance between preferred male and preferred female partners. These data support the argument that, for some bisexual individuals, sexual attraction is not gender-linked. […] …the dimensions which maximally separate most preferred sexual partners are not gender-based in seven of the nine grids.”
— M W Ross, J P Paul, “Beyond Gender: The Basis of Sexual Attraction in Bisexual Men and Women” (1992)
“[S]ome bisexuals say they are blind to the gender of their potential lovers and that they love people as people… For the first group, a dichotomy of genders between which to choose doesn’t seem to exist[.]”
— Kathleen Bennett, “Feminist Bisexuality, a Both/And Option for an Either/Or World,” Closer to Home: Bisexuality and Feminism (1992)
“The expressed desires of [female bisexual] respondents differed in many cases from their experience. 37 respondents preferred women as sexual partners; 9 preferred men. 21 women had no preference, and 35 said they preferred sex with particular individuals, regardless of gender.”
— Sue George, “Living as bisexual,” Women and Bisexuality (1993)
“Who is this group for exactly? Anyone who identifies as bisexual or thinks they are attracted to or interested in all genders… This newly formed [support] group is to create a supportive, safe environment for people who are questioning their sexual orientation and think they may be bisexual.”
— “Coming Out as Bisexual,” Bi Women (1994)
“It is logical and necessary for bisexuals to recognize the importance of gender politics — not just because transsexuals, cross-dressers, and other transgender people are often assumed to be bisexual… […] I have talked to the bisexual practicers of pre-op transsexuals who feel they have the best of both worlds because their lover embodies woman and man together.² Is that not a connection between bisexuality and transgenderism? […] Some of us are bisexual because we do not pay much attention to the gender of our attractions; some of us are bisexual because we do see tremendous gender differences and want to experience them all. […] With respect to our integrity as bisexuals, it is our responsibility to include transgendered people in our language, in our communities, in our politics, and in our lives.”
— Naomi Tucker, “The Natural Next Step,” Bisexual Politics: Theories, Queries, and Visions (1995)
“The first wave of people who started the Bi Center were political radicals and highly motivated people. The group was based on inclusivity… for example, in the women’s groups, anybody who identified as a woman had the right to be there, so a lot of transgender people started coming to the Bi Center.”
— Naomi Tucker, “Bay Area Bisexual History: An Interview with David Lourea,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“[B]isexual consciousness, because of its amorphous quality and inclusionary nature, posed a fundamental threat to the dualistic and exclusionary thought patterns which were — and still are — tenaciously held by both the gay liberation leadership and its enemies.”
— Stephen Donaldson, “The Bisexual Movement’s Beginnings in the 70s,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“If anything, being bi has made me hyper-aware of the sexual differences between [men and women]. And I still get hot for both. But I do experience something that is similar to gender blindness. It’s this: being bisexual means I could potentially find myself sexually attracted to anybody. Therefore, as a bisexual, I don’t make the distinction that monosexuals do between the gender you fuck and the gender you don’t.”
— Greta Christina, “Bi Sexuality,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“[A]nd too / I am bisexual / in my history / in my capacity / in my fantasies / in my abilities / in my love for beautiful people / regardless of gender.”
— Dajenya, “Bisexual Lesbian,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“The bisexual community should be a place where lines are erased. Bisexuality dismisses, disproves, and defies dichotomies. It connotes a loss of rigidity and absolutes. It is an inclusive term. […] Despite how we choose to identify ourselves, the bisexual community still seems a logical place for transsexuals to find a home and a voice. Bisexuals need to educate themselves on transgender issues. At the same time, bisexuals should be doing education and outreach to the transsexual community, offering transsexuals an arena to further explore their sexualities and choices. Such outreach would also help break down gender barriers and misconceptions within the bisexual community itself. […] If the bisexual community turns its back on transsexuals, it is essentially turning its back on itself.”
— K. Martin-Damon, “Essay for the Inclusion of Transsexuals,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“As bisexuals, we are necessarily prompted to come up with non-binary ways of thinking about sexual orientation. For many of us, this has also prompted a move toward non-binary ways of thinking about sex and gender.”
— Rebecca Kaplan, “Your Fence Is Sitting on Me: The Hazards of Binary Thinking,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“And so we love each other and wish love for each other, regardless (to the extent possible) of gender and sex.”
— Oma Izakson, “If Half of You Dodges a Bullet, All of You Ends Up Dead,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“Similarly, the modern bisexual movement has dissolved the strict dichotomy between ‘gay’ and ‘straight’ (without invalidating our homosexual or heterosexual friends and lovers.) We have insisted on our desire and freedom to love people of all genders.”
— Sunfrog, “Pansies Against Patriarchy,” Bisexual Politics (1995)
“In the bisexual movement as a whole, transgendered individuals are celebrated not only as an aspect of the diversity of the bisexual community, but because, like bisexuals, they do not fit neatly into dichotomous categories. Jim Frazin wrote that ‘the construction and destruction of gender’ is a subject of mutual interest to bisexuals and transsexuals who are, therefore, natural allies.”
— Paula C. Rust, Bisexuality and the Challenge to Lesbian Politics: Sex, Loyalty, and Revolution (1995)
“Is bisexuality even about gender at all? ‘I don’t desire a gender,’ 25[-]year-old Matthew Ehrlich says.”
— Deborah Block-Schwenk, “Newsweek Comes Out as Supportive,” Bi Women (1995)
“One woman expressed the desire to elide categorical differences by reporting that she finds ‘relationships with men and women to be quite similar — the differences are in the individuals, not in their sex.’ Others expressed their ideal as choosing partners ‘regardless of gender…’”
— Amber Ault, Ambiguous Identity in an Unambiguous Sex/Gender Structure: The Case of Bisexual Women (1996)
“Most conceptual models of bisexuality explain it in terms of conflictual or confused identity development, [r-slur] sexual development, or a defence against ‘true’ heterosexuality or homosexuality. It has been suggested, however, that some individuals can eroticize more than one love object regardless of gender, that sexual patterns could be more variable and fluid than theoretical notions tend to allow, and that sexual desire may not be as fixed and static in individuals as is assumed by ‘essential’ sexual categories and identities.”
— E.Antonio de Moya and Rafael García, “AIDS and the Enigma of Bisexuality in the Dominican Republic,” Bisexualities and AIDS: International Perspectives (1996)
“I’m bi. That simply means I can be attracted to a person without consideration of their gender.”
— E. Grace Noonan, “Out on the Job: DEC Open to Bi Concerns,” Bi Women (1996)
“BiCon should accept transgender people as being on their chosen gender, this includes any single gender events.”
— BiCon Guidelines (1998)⁴
“The probability is that your relationship is based on, or has nestled itself into something based more on the relationship between two identities than on the relationship between two people. That’s what we’re taught: man/man, woman/woman, woman/man, top/bottom, butch/femme, man/woman/man, etc. We’re never taught person/person. That’s what the bisexual movement has been trying to teach us. We’re never taught that, so we fall into the trap of ‘you don’t love me, you love my identity.’”
— Kate Bornstein, My Gender Workbook (1998)
“Transsexuality and bisexuality both occupy heretical thresholds of human experience. We confound, illuminate and explore border regions. We challenge because we appear to break inviolable laws. Laws that feel ‘natural.’ And quite possibly, since we are not the norm or even average, it is likely that one function we have is to subvert those norms or laws; to break down the sleepy and unimaginative law of averages.”
— Max Wolf Valerio, “The Joker Is Wild: Changing Sex + Other Crimes of Passion,” Anything That Moves (1998)
“From the earliest years of the bi community, significant numbers of TV/TS and transgender people have always been involved with it. The bi community served as a kind of refuge for people who felt excluded from the established gay and lesbian communities.”
— Kevin Lano, “Bisexuality and Transgenderism,” Anything That Moves (1998)
“A large group of bisexual women reported in a Ms. magazine article that when they fell in love it was with a person rather than a gender…”
— Betty Fairchild and Nancy Hayward, “What is Gay?”, Now that You Know: A Parents’ Guide to Understanding Their Gay and Lesbian Children (1998)
“Over the past fifteen years, however, [one Caucasian man] has realized that he is ‘attracted to people — not their sexual identity’ and no longer cares whether his partners are male or female. He has kept his Bi identity and now uses it to refer to his attraction to people regardless of their gender.”

“Respondent #658 said that both are irrelevant; ‘who I am sexually attracted to has nothing to do with their sex/gender,’ whereas Respondent #418 focuses specifically on the irrelevance of sex: I find myself attracted to either men or women. The outside appendages are rather immaterial, as it is the inner being I am attracted to. […] Respondent #495 recalled that “the best definition I’ve ever heard is someone who is attracted to people & gender/sex is not an issue or factor in that attraction.” […] As Respondent #269 put it, “I do not exclude a person from consideration as a possible love interest on the basis of sex/gender.” […] For most individuals who call themselves bisexual, bisexual identity reflects feelings of attraction, sexual and otherwise, toward women and men or toward other people regardless of their gender.”
— Paula C. Rust, “Two Many and Not Enough: The Meanings of Bisexual Identities,” 2000 Journal of Bisexuality
“Giovanni’s distinction between what he wants and who he wants resonates with the language of many of today’s bisexuals, who insist that they fall in love with a person, not a gender.”
— Marjorie Garber, Bisexuality and the Eroticism of Everyday Life (2000)
“The message of bisexuality — that people are more than their gender; that we accept all people, regardless of Kinsey scale rating; that we embrace people regardless of age, weight, clothing, hair style, gender expression, race, religion and actually celebrate our diversity — that message is my gospel. I travel, write, do web sites — all to let people know that the bisexual community will accept you, will let you be who you are, and will not expect you to fit in a neat little gender/sexuality box.”
— Wendy Curry, “Celebrating Bisexuality,” Bi Women (2000)
“But really, just like I can’t believe in the heterosexist binary gender system, I have difficulty accepting wholeheartedly any one spiritual tradition.”
— Anonymous, “A Methodical Awakening,” Bi Women (2002)
“But there are also many bis, such as myself, for whom gender has no place in the list of things that attract them to a person. For instance, I like people who are good listeners, who understand me and have interests similar to mine, and I am attracted to people with a little padding here and there, who have fair skin and dark hair (although I’m pretty flexible when it comes to looks). ‘Male’ or ‘female’ are not anywhere to be found in the list of qualities I find attractive.”

“The bisexual community seems to be disappearing. Not that there won’t always be people around who like to have sex with people of all genders, the community, as I’ve discussed in this book, is a different matter altogether.”
— William Burleson, Bi America: Myths, Truths, and Struggles of an Invisible Community (2005)
“Although bisexuals in general may or may not be more enlightened about gender issues, there has been, and continues to be, in most places around the country a strong connection between the transgender and the bisexual communities. Indeed, the two communities have been strong allies. Why is this? One reason certainly is, as I mentioned earlier, the significant number of people who are both bisexual and transgender.”
— William Burleson, Bi America: Myths, Truths, and Struggles of an Invisible Community (2005)
“Amy: […] But my friend’s question got me thinking: given the fact that so many bisexual friends and community members reject the idea that gender has to have a relation to attraction and behavior, why should I reject the bi label? Why did her question even come up? How relevant is gender to the concept of bisexuality? If bisexuals like me don’t care about gender the way monosexuals do, why would my identity label exclude my lovers’ gender variations?
Kim: …Like you, I’m a bi person who sees gender as fluid rather than fixed or dichotomous… I’ve also felt outside pressure to reject my bi identity based on the idea that it perpetuates the gender binary: woman/man. However, this idea reduces bisexual to ‘bi’ and ‘sexual’ and disregards the fact that it represents a history, a community, a substantial body of writing, and the right of the bisexual community to define ‘bisexuality’ on its own terms. Most importantly, this idea disregards how vital these things are for countless bi people. Identifying as bi doesn’t inherently mean anything, and it definitely doesn’t mean a person only recognizes two genders. However, to assume that bi-identified people exclude transgender, gender nonconforming (GNC), and genderqueer people also assumes they are not trans, GNC, or genderqueer themselves, when in fact, many are.”
— Kim Westrick and Amy Andre, “Semantic Wars,” Bi Women (2009)
“The [intracommunity biphobia] problem is very serious, because bisexuals, along with trans folks, are the rejects among rejects, that is to say, those who suffer from discrimination (gays and lesbians) discriminate against bis and trans folks. It is for this reason, at least here in Mexico City, that Opción Bi allies itself with transsexuals, transgender people and transvestites, and works together with them whenever possible. It seems to me we are closer to the trans communities than to the lesbian and gay ones.”
— Robyn Ochs, “Bis Around the World: Myriam Brito, Mexican City,” Bi Women (2009)
“I introduce myself as bisexual, because I am attracted to people, across gender lines, and ‘bisexual’ comes closest to explaining that.”
— B.J. Epstein, “Bye Bi Labels,” Bi Women (2009)
“Bisexuality is not some kind of middle-ground between heterosexuality and homosexuality; rather I imagine it as a way to erode the fixed systems of gender and sexual identity which always result in guilt, fear, lies[,] and discrimination.”
— Carlos Iván Suárez García, “What Is Bisexuality?”, Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)⁵
“To me, bisexuality is a matter of loving and accepting everyone equally — seeing the beauty in the human soul, rather than in the shell that houses it. Being transgender, I know firsthand that love between two people can transcend — even embrace — what society regards as taboo. Bisexuality is a mindset of revolution, a mindset of change. We’re creating a brave new world of acceptance and love for all people, of all the myriad genders and methods of sexual expression that this world contains.
— Jessica, “What Is Bisexuality?”, Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)
“Bisexuality (whatever that means) for me is about the ability to relate to all people at a deep emotional level. It is an openness of the heart. It is the absence of limits, especially those that are defined by the other person’s sex.”
— Andrea Toselli, “Coming Out Bisexual,” Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)
“Considering my personal preferences, calling myself ‘bisexual’ covers a wider territory regarding my capacity to fall in love and to share the life of a couple with another person without taking into consideration questions of gender.”
— Aida, “Why Bi?”, Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)
“I’m sure I’m bisexual because I can’t ignore the allure and loveliness of a wide spectrum of people — differentiating by gender never seemed attractive or even logical to me. […] For me bisexuality means I don’t stop attraction, caring or relationship potential based on gender; I can have sex, flirtation or warm ongoing love with anyone (not everyone, okay? That part’s a myth). […] And we have enough trouble splitting the human race into two halves, assigning mandatory characteristics, and then torturing people to fill arbitrary roles — I consider that a wrong and inaccurate way to understand human potential, and that’s also why I’m bi. Men and women are different? Honey, everyone I’ve ever met has been different. I think being bisexual lets me see each person as an individual.”
— Carol Queen, “Why Bi?”, Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)
“But to hell with respectability: the real point about being bisexual, a friend pointed out, is that you’re asking someone other than ‘What sex is this person?’”

“[T]here’s nothing binary about bisexuals. Bi is just a provisional term reminding us, however awkwardly, that when it comes to loving, family and tribe, margins and middle intertwine.”
— Loraine Hutchins, “Bisexual Politics,” Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)
“My bi identity is not about who I am having sex with; it is not about the genitals of my past, current, or future lovers; it is not about choosing potential partners or excluding partners based on what is between their legs. It is about potential — the potential to love, to be attracted to, to be intimate with, share a life with a person because of who they are. I see a person, not a gender… I demand to be free to legally marry anyone without regard to their gender.”
— Rifka Reichler, “Bisexual Politics,” Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World, Second Edition (2009)
“To me, being bisexual means having a sexuality that isn’t limited by the sex or gender of the people you are attracted to. You just recognize that you can be attracted to a person for very individual reasons.”

“Q: Which gender person does a bisexual love? A: Any gender she wants.”
— Marcia Deihl, “Do Clothes Make the Woman?”, Bi Women (2010)
“While the bisexual manifesto being written following a workshop at London BiCon is still being worked on, the tweeters set to work on a shorter, snappier alternative… ‘Love is about what’s in your hearts, not your underwear.’ […] ‘We aren’t more confused, greedy, indecisive or lustful than anyone else. We like people based on personality not gender.’ ‘[W]e believe that lust is more important than anatomy.’ ‘What you have between your legs doesn’t matter. What you have between your ears does[.]’”
— Jen Yockney, “#bisexualmanifesto,” Bi Community News (2010)
“As briefly mentioned above and interlinked with the notion of ‘importance of individuality’, the binary concepts of gender and the stereotypes surrounding these is a notion which each of the [bisexual] women interviewed fundamentally reject. The participants here were keen to distance themselves and their experiences of romantic relationships from any notion of hetero-normative gender boundaries, although they did agree that unfortunately these gender boundaries still exist in contemporary society. Most participants do not link gender boundaries with concepts of romantic love; it was stated that although sometimes gender boundaries can be seen in romantic relationships this is primarily down to socialisation and the unnecessary importance that hetero-normative society places on gender roles. Therefore, gender boundaries seen in romantic relationships are not constrained by gender but instead are a product of gendered socialisation. For these women, claiming their bisexual identity and their romantic relationships illustrates the futility of binary concepts of gender as it is about individual preference or style rather than gendered norms values and expectations.”
— Emma Smith, “Bisexuality, Gender & Romantic Relationships,” Bi Community News (2012)
“And anyway, I’m generally not sexually attracted to men or women. I’m into all sorts of things, but a person being a man or a woman isn’t a turn-on. Certainly not in the same way it’s a turn off to a gay or straight person. I’m never going to think “Wow, Zie is really sexy, shame they’re a ____” because what turns me off isn’t gender.”
— Marcus, “What makes a bisexual?”, Bi Community News (2012)
“I am bisexual. That does not depend on my dating experience or my attraction specifications. It is not affected by my dislike for genitals (of any shape). All it describes is how gender affects attraction for me: it doesn’t. I am attracted to people regardless of gender, and I am bisexual.”
— Emma Jones, “Not Like the Others,” Bi Women (2013)
“I’m generally okay with ‘attraction to more than one gender’ [as a definition of ‘bisexuality’]. I think that the ‘more than’ part is important because there are definitely more than two genders. Some people like the definition ‘attraction regardless of gender’ and I like that too because it suggests that things other than gender can be equally, or more, important in who we are attracted to. I like to question why our idea of sexuality is so bound up with gender of partners. Why not encompass other aspects such as the roles we like to take sexually, or how active or passive we like to be, or what practices we enjoy? Why is our gender, and the gender of our partners, seen as such a vital part of who we are?”
— Robyn Ochs, “Around the World: Meg Barker,” Bi Women (2013)
“It may sound crazy but I’d never thought that carefully about the ‘bi’ part of the word meaning ‘two’. I’d always understood bisexuality to mean what Bobbie Petford reports as the preferred definition from within the UK bi communities: changeable ‘sexual and emotional attraction to people of any sex, where gender may not be a defining factor’. […] Participants in the BiCon discussion rejected the ‘you are a boy or you are a girl…binary’ (Lanei), all arguing that they were not straightforwardly ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’.
[…] Because they discarded the dichotomous understanding of gender, participants rejected the ideas that they were attracted to ‘both’ men and women, arguing that they did not perceive gender as the defining feature in their attraction. Kim said: I don’t think actually gender is that relevant…gender is like eye colour, and I notice it sometimes, and sometimes it can be a bit of a feature it’s like “oo, that’s nice” and I have some sorts of gender types, but it’s about as important as something like eye colour.
[…] As I came to realise that you can actually be bisexual…your desires and your attractions can wax and wane as time goes on, I realised that there was a parallel to gender: you don’t have to clearly define, you don’t have to cast off the male to be female and vice versa. Despite the fact that the conventional definition of the word ‘bisexual’ could be seen as perpetuating a dichotomous concept of gender, being attracted to both sexes, Georgina concluded that it could challenge conventional understandings of gender…”

“My fellow bisexuals… I stand before you as an unapologetic, outspoken, bisexual activist who has intimately loved women, men and transgender persons throughout my life span of 72 years…”

“Coming out as bisexual in the late 80s, when I first came across the label pansexual it didn’t involve any kind of gender nuance: it was how someone explained their bisexuality feeling interwoven with their Pagan beliefs. Back then the ‘bi’ in bisexual didn’t get talked about as having some great limiting weight of ‘two’, it was an “and” in a world that saw things as strictly either/or. As I was pushing at boundaries of discussion around gender and sexuality with people in the 90s I’d sometimes quip that I was ‘bisexual, I just haven’t decided which two genders yet’. When I started to come across people saying that bi was limiting because it meant two, a bit of me did think: oh lord, were they taking me seriously?”
— Jen, “Bi or Pan?”, Bi Community News (2015)
“Pansexuality is sometimes defined as attraction to people of all genders, which is also the experience of many bisexual people. More often than not, however, people define their pansexuality in relation to bisexuality. In response to the question: ‘What does pansexual mean?’ I’ve seen countless people reply: ‘I’m attracted to people of more than two genders. Not bisexual.’ The implication is that bisexual means binary attraction: men and women only.
Since I came out in the late 90s, I haven’t seen one bi activist organisation define bisexuality as attraction solely to men and women. Bi and trans* issues began to grow in recognition at the same time. When I use ‘bi’ to refer to two types of attraction, I mean attraction to people of my gender and attraction to people of other genders. […] …it’s so upsetting to see internalised biphobia leading many pansexuals, many of whom until recently identified as bisexual, telling us we’re still not queer enough. Gay and straight people aren’t being pressurised into giving up the language they use to describe their attractions and neither should they be. As usual it’s only bisexuals being shamed into erasing our identities and our history.
The most frustrating thing to me about the current bi vs pan discourse is that it’s framed as a cisgender vs genderqueer debate. This has never been the case. In reality, many genderqueer people identify as bisexual… To say bisexuality is binary erases the identities of these revolutionary bisexual genderqueer activists, and it erases the identity of every marginalised genderqueer bisexual they’re fighting for.”
— Sali, “Bi or Pan?”, Bi Community News (2015)
“Currently some pansexual people argue that bi is ‘too binary’ and that bisexuals are focused on conventional male/female gender expressions only. This is then taken to mean that bisexuals are more transphobic, whereas pansexuals aren’t locked into a binary so they are open to all gender expressions. However we believe this is not the case since bisexuals: ‘… do not comply with our society’s imposed framework of attraction, we must consciously construct our own framework and examine how and why we are attracted (or not) to others. This process automatically acknowledges the artificiality of the gender binary and gendered norms and expectations for behavior. Indeed, the mere act of explaining our definition of bisexual to a nonbisexual person requires us to address the falsity of the gender binary head on.’
We do not deny that in actuality some bisexuals are too bound by traditional binary gender assumptions, just as many gay, lesbian, and heterosexual, and some trans people are too. Bisexuals, however, have been in the forefront of exploring desire and connection beyond sex and gender. When anyone accuses bisexuals, uniquely, as more binary and more transphobic than other identity groups, such targeting is not only inappropriate but is also rooted in biphobia — a fear and hatred of bi people for who we are and how we love.
Confusing the issue are the definitions in resource glossaries defining bisexual, most surprisingly in newly released books including textbooks. [...] These definitions arbitrarily define bisexual in a binary way and then present pansexual as a non-binary alternative. This opens the doorway to a judgment that pansexual identity is superior to bisexual identity because it ‘opens possibilities’ and is a ‘more fluid and much broader form of sexual orientation’. This judgmental conclusion is unacceptable and dangerous as it lends itself to perpetuating bisexual erasure. The actual lived non-binary history of the bisexual community and movement and the inclusive nature and community spirit of bisexuals are eradicated when a binary interpretation of our name for ourselves is arbitrarily assumed.”

“The persistent use of the Kinsey Scale is another issue. Originally asking about the genders of people you have had sex with, more recently it gets deployed in more sophisticated ways which distinguish between sexual attraction, romantic attraction, and sexual activity. Nonetheless it is woefully inadequate in accounting for attraction to genders other than male and female — a key part of many bisexual people’s experience.”

“Loving a person rather than a man or a woman: this is Runa Wehrli’s philosophy. At 18, she defines herself as bisexual and speaks about it openly. […] She believes that love should not be confined by the barriers put up by society. ‘I fall in love with a person and not a gender,’ she says. […] Now single and just out of high school, she is leaving the door open to love, while still refusing to give it a gender.”

“I’m bisexual so I can’t really come out as gay. When I’m gay I’m very gay. And when I’m with men then, you know, I’m with men. I don’t fall in love with people because of their gender.”

“I use the word bisexual — a lot / I’ve marched in the Pride parade with the Toronto Bisexual Network / I post Bi pride & Bi awareness articles all over social media / I’m seeking out dates of any and all genders / (not to prove anything to anyone, but simply because I want to)

“BISEXUAL — Someone who is attracted to more than one gender, someone who is attracted to two or more genders, someone who is attracted to the same and other genders, or someone who is attracted to people regardless of their gender. “A bisexual woman, for example, may have sex with, date or marry another woman, a man or someone who is non-binary. […] If you think you might be bisexual, try asking yourself these questions: …Can I picture myself dating, having sex with, or being married to any gender/sex?”
— “I Think I Might Be Bisexual,” Advocates for Youth
“Although it’s true that people have all kinds of different attractions to different kinds of people, assuming that all bisexuals are never attracted to trans or genderqueer folk is harmful, not only to bi individuals, but to trans and genderqueer individuals who choose to label themselves as bi.”
— “Labels,” Bisexual Resource Center
“My own understanding of bisexuality has changed dramatically over the years. I used to define bisexuality as ‘the potential to be attracted to people regardless of their gender.’ […] Alberto is attracted to the poles, to super-masculine guys and super-feminine girls. Others are attracted to masculinity and/or femininity, regardless of a person’s sex. Some of us who identify as bisexual are in fact ‘gender-blind.’ For others — in fact for me — it’s androgyny or the blending of genders that compels.”

“Bisexuality is sexual/romantic attraction to people regardless of sex or gender.”
— “Bisexual FAQ,” Kvartir
“Please also note that attraction to both same and different means attraction to all. Bisexuality is inherently inclusive of everyone, regardless of sex or gender.
In everyday language, depending on the speaker’s culture, background, and politics, that translates into a variety of everyday definitions such as:
Attraction to men and women
Attraction to all sexes or genders
Attraction to same and other genders
Love beyond gender
Attraction regardless of sex or gender”
— American Institute of Bisexuality, “What Is Bisexuality?,” Bi.org
“This idea [that bisexuality reinforces a false gender binary] has its roots in the anti-science, anti-Enlightenment philosophy that has ironically found a home within many Queer Studies departments at universities across the Anglophone world. […] Bisexuality is an orientation for which sex and gender are not a boundary to attraction… Over time, our society’s concept of human sex and gender may well change. For bis, people for whom sex/gender is already not a boundary, any such change would have little effect.”
— American Institute of Bisexuality, “Questions,” Bi.org
Gender-expansive (or -fluid, or -blind) descriptions of bisexuality are nothing new — and with the exception of the Getting Bi quotes, the above compilation is just what I was able to find online. Arguably, the concept of excluding genders never even crossed the mind of many twentieth-century bisexuals — not just because “nonbinary genders hadn’t entered the mainstream” — but simply because many bisexuals understand bisexuality itself as “beyond” gender. Go to any bisexual organization and they’ll tell you bisexuality is broad and can include anyone.
Of course, the above quotes do not reflect the beliefs of every bisexual — no single quote can do that. These quotes were certainly not the only variation of bisexual-given definitions of bisexuality. I’m only pointing out that the “both” descriptions are similarly not the only ones that exist.
Even then, before wider knowledge of and language for nonbinary identities, attraction to “both” men and women was attraction regardless of gender. “Both” does not purposefully keep anyone out; it only (mistakenly) assumes how many groups there are. Gender not being a make-or-break, or not caring about gender in general, doesn’t depend on how many genders there are.⁶
Not to mention, all sexualities automatically include some nonbinary people — “nonbinary” isn’t merely a third gender. The mere notion that someone could just “not be attracted” to nonbinary people as a group completely misunderstands nonbinary identity.
Some bisexuals “see a person, not a gender,” while others, like me, see a person with a gender (that doesn’t stop us from finding them attractive), if they have one. Being bisexual has made me see people in more gender-neutral ways. Our experiences are far too vast to pin down, and there’s immense beauty in that vagueness.
Also, while bisexual activism and transgender activism have frequently overlapped, plenty of cisgender bisexuals are transphobic. But this is because all sexualities have transphobes. Even if we coined a sexual identity that only transgender people could use, some identifying with it would still likely be transphobes. Why allow transphobic bisexuals to erase the attitudes of all the bisexuals before and after them?
I find it incredibly odd that people now task bisexuals with proving our inclusivity considering that, for decades, we never had to. We had always (i.e., consistently throughout history, not as in every bisexual) been warping gender norms, but it was never to debunk a myth or make ourselves look good; it was just how we were. That hasn’t changed.
One of the predominant stereotypes is still that we’re indiscriminate sluts willing to sleep with anyone, but somehow there’s a new wave of folks insisting that we require our partners to obey the gender binary. I have a severely hard time believing this conclusion is based on reality. Almost all attempts to redefine bisexuality as binary come from people who don’t identify as such.
Imagine if we performed this revisionism with the word “gay.” For this example, I’ll use “gay” to describe gay men in particular.
“Gay” only means exclusive attraction to men, so the people who use that word only like cisgender men. I’m androsexual, which means I like cisgender, transgender, and nonbinary men.
Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? So why do we only apply this rhetoric to bisexuals? (It couldn’t possibly be because of biphobia, could it?)
While it’s obviously unrealistic to say that no bisexual person has ever been transphobic, bisexual orientation is not, and never has been, about exclusion. Considering that bisexual activists were seldom (if ever) focused on the prefix in the word “bisexual,” this recent fixation people have on trying to find a way to use “two” in its definition is misguided.
Begging to differ is ignorant and arrogant, contradicting not only history but many current bisexuals who understand bisexuality as all-encompassing. Acting like it’s uniquely binary or inherently limited in any way is indisputably false and biphobic. Please stop speaking over us and erasing our history. It, like the bisexual community itself, is bountiful, beautiful, and never going away.
Here’s one final quote that, while a bit unrelated to the rest, I particularly enjoy:
“I understand bisexuality not as a mixture of homosexuality and heterosexuality as Kinsey did, nor as a particular sexuality on an equal footing with homosexuality and heterosexuality, but as a holistic view of human sexuality, in which all aspects related to human sexuality are taken into account.”
— Miguel Obradors-Campos, “Deconstructing Biphobia” (2011)
