What childrens taught me about real solutions beyond policy and profits
There is a silent revolution waiting to be recognised today. It is not driven by capital flows or geopolitical power but by a force as old as humanity itself that is compassion. Growing up in rural India, I witnessed compassion as the unseen force holding life together when systems failed. Whenever someone in my village fell severely ill, neighbours came together.. some arranging transport,…

Arkham Prince - Masterlist of Posts
I've linked the major asks below with a preview (edited for length) below, grouped by subject/theme and rough chronological order of how I received them. Additional shorter asks/clarifying questions, as well as shorter bits of commentary are at the very bottom.
The very first post:
I have been thinking about the idea of Bruce going insane without being Batman, about Batman being his coping mechanism, and that reblog that was like "he would definitely have ended up in Arkham if he didnt make Batman." Now I'm thinking of an AU where that is exactly the case, and maybe Clark expands his interest towards Gotham a bit, as much as he doesnt like heroing there, because it is the neighbor city of Metropolis. It's like his backyard. And maybe he wants to understand the problem of Gotham at the root, so he goes as Clark Kent, reporter, to interview the patients at Arkham, and there meets Bruce Wayne. Maybe falls in love. Maybe its angsty as fuck because this Bruce is 10 times less adjusted than the Bruce we're used to, but of course, equally as brilliant. (Maybe he could escape any time he wanted but thinks he would murder people if so. Maybe he doesnt trust his anger.)
Expanding Asks:
the idea of arkham patient bruce wayne has burrowed into the depths of my mind. this is SUCH a fascinating thought and changes so many things…how does the justice league fare without batman? how does alfred? i’d assume alfred is given bruce’s guardianship when he’s institutionalized, and i could even see him taking in the robins – finding and helping these children who remind him so much of his own boy, trying not to fail them as he failed bruce. how bruce himself does in arkham is so interesting to consider…is he kept on the same level of security as the real supervillains? is he moved there after Events?
Clark, realizing the League has a problem, a trap from someone like Lex they don't know how to unknot, something which requires finesse and strategy which is a little beyond them... taking that stroll (flight) down to Gotham, feeling insane himself for seeking advise here of all places... but the Arkham Prince delivers. Clark explains the situation, answers questions that he had no idea related to the issue, and Bruce hands him the solution in the span of 10 minutes, while the League had been brainstorming and going in circles over this for days...
Clark Kent and the Arkham Prince Finding Common Ground:
clark’s first attempt to interview the prince of arkham go about as well as you might expect, given that he’s a reporter with sunshine all but seeping out of his pores. the first time bruce doesn’t even talk to him, too furious at the gall of this metropolitan newshound to interrogate him for the sake of some gruesome, sensationalist op-ed obviously about the tragedy of the family wayne and the irredeemable mire of gotham to do anything more than death-glare at him for the entire length of the meeting. but clark, unsatisfyingly, doesn’t give up after that. if bruce doesn’t talk to him, he sure talks to bruce, and with each subsequent interview the questions…change. no longer trying to establish facts about bruce’s life or his crimes, not asking about his experience in arkham, not even going for the low-hanging fruit of why’d you train for years to kill those people, but seemingly random and unrelated things. he wants bruce’s opinions on emissions policies (need to be stricter and more tightly enforced, especially in gotham, jesus, there’s a reason lung cancer and asthma rates are through the roof) and lex luthor’s keynote speeches (unprintable, wiped from clark’s tape recorder in case luthor somehow finds out) and whether or not clark should buy a new suit (why bother, it won’t be any less tragic than every other polyester abomination he cruelly forces bruce to look at every time he stops by). clark slowly and stubbornly makes himself as much a part of bruce’s routine as visits with alfred and lucius and the doctors, and all the while superman is playing a high-stakes game of mental chess with the sinking suspicion that bruce wayne has already won in more ways than one bruce figures out kent is superman about three hours after the first time big blue gets namedropped during an interview. he commences with a plan that is part honeypot, part campaign of psychological warfare, and part genuine bid to get this midwestern alien who holds the safety of his city in his hands to try and give a damn like a proper gothamite would, like no one but bruce ever seems to.
Clark, whose one of his grestest fears is being constrained, treated as a threat, dissected, studied, as the alien specimen he is. He has to pretend. He had to be so careful. Every day or he won't have a life to live.
Clark asking the Arkham Prince to Consult for the JL:
i would kill to have clark-as-supes get some kind of special dispensation to bring arkham prince bruce to the jl hideout (the watchtower doesn’t to be without batman’s engineering/logistics knowhow and WE funding, at least not until bruce is more formally considered a consultant) for help on one of lex’s more convoluted and immediate threats. it’s just not possible for bruce to solve the problem in isolation without the league’s resources, so instead of bringing league missions to bruce superman has to bring bruce to the league mission. i started imagining the team’s reaction to their unwitting reliance on criminally insane mass murderer bruce wayne and then i remembered oliver exists and now i feel only sadness thinking about that particular reunion
Just wondering how regular JL universe would react to meeting this au, meeting Batman and seeing Bruce Wayne's potential Would they realize that their Bruce is limited by what he can do inside Arkham, but that this Batman is also limited by his own rules and codes. Would Ollie be crushed at what his former friend could have been, thinking maybe if he had stepped up and been a "better friend" Bruce wouldn't be in Arkham, he could of been working beside him instead. Can imagine Batman saying "I don't kill" and Bruce just smiling in what should have been the brucie smile and replying "but I do"
The crossover is so funny in regards to Supes. Like here's Arkham Prince AU Clark, terribly in love with a version of Bruce who is so unavailable to him on so many levels, aching with it every time he dares think about it, staring at Regular Universe Clark in complete and utter disbelief. (expansion of "regular JL universe" ask above)
Your take on Prince of Arkham's level of influence on JL members, at the top being of course Clark. And also: first time he is taken into the JL base, does he hack into their systems?
OMG arkham bruce and clark have gotten closer and maybe clark makes bruce promise not to kill again after bruce gets out of arkham so he can join the jl but then someone is killed and theres evidence it was bruce but bruce swears it wasnt him ( bc it wasn’t him ) but theres so much evidence that even clark is starting to doubt bruces innocence and the jl has to kick him out and hes taken back to Arkham or for interrogation and then ANGST BRUCE BEING TORTURED FOR CONFESSION BUT HE STILL SWEARS HE DIDNT DO IT until its proven that he didnt do it
@bat-chik's Harvey Dent Visits Bruce in Arkham
"We can't even claim self defense," Harvey continued. "You-" "He has cancer." Harvey blinked at the non-sequitur, "What?" Finally, the orphaned Wayne turned and faced him, face blank, unconcerned about how much more this action would add to his sentencing. Unconcerned except for the steel eyes seething yet holding back so much hurt. Harvey remembered once again, with a small pang, why he had gotten a crush on Bruce in their college days. "Nygma. He has cancer. The only way to get medical care in Arkham is by ending up in the hospital wing." Bruce moved with all the weight of the world on his shoulders and sat in the bolted chair across from his lawyer, and life long friend.
Where are the Batkids in This?
pls consider. a dick greyson who gets tossed in arkham after tracking down and torturing then killing killing his parent's murderer. tiny and lost now that what was driving him is done. a bruce wayne who hasnt been in That long yet, not long enough for people to see him as a threat rather than just an oddity, who takes one look at that angry little kid and says "oh. oh that ones mine" and spends as much time with the kid as he can. and bruce Loves gotham, thats his whole drive. but to dick, gotham is nothing but the place his world crumbled. and i think this bruce never sat with his feelings of grief either. i think he always needed a cause. and i think he saw dick having lost his cause and tries to help him find another (id like to put forth escaping as a hobby, managing to get into Any part of arkham that he pleases especially with his athleticism and small size)
It would be funny if in the Arkham Prince AU, since all the kids are in there for being um - gremlins and down with murder - that Jason in this was the pacifist?
Re: Jason being the pacifist: "I will follow you forever because you killed him." Endlessly devoted Jason my beloved. If you give him one (1) positive attention he will light himself on fire to keep you warm. I love him so much. Self destructive king.
Tim committing a crime just to end up in Arkham and study the famed insane Bruce Wayne is actually startlingly in character for him...
Clarifying Asks:
when do you see him as getting committed? was he already batman? did he already have any of his kids? if not, what *happened* to those kids who never had bruce to fight for them?
Okay, but since Bruce is the Prince of Arkham, whats stopping his kids from being in there with him?
Oh I am sooooooooo curious about what Clark thinks about Arkham Bruce having a gaggle of prison murder children.…you ever think he’s asked Dick to give Clark flowers during one of his escapes????? Or is that too corny for them.
I've seen some Arkham Prince asks and responses referring to Bruce still being rich, but would he still be?
Additional Thoughts:
i am torn between the other Inmates Hating bruce (hes the picture of those who hurt them. a rich man who is just like them but gets Way less pain for it) and adoring him
Picture this, Alfred goes to see Haly's, sees another black haired blue eyed child losing his parents at just about the same age. Another feral child with murder in his eyes.
it’s extremely important to me to consider arkham prince bruce with longer, shaggy hair and a perpetual three-day beard
The smut in the Arkham Prince AU would be INSANE.
This Arkham Prince AU has folks in a choke hold but ya'll forget one thing. The Joker and Harley Quinn.
god i am just exploding thinking about bruce and sex in the arkham prince au. there is absolutely no way he’s not accustomed to exchanging sex for favors, information, anything he wants or needs. (additional thoughts on how Clark fits into this/Superbat)
Okay hi so my main source of Arkham knowledge is the Penguin show so I’m gonna ramble a bit about factions and divides and stuff. (Sofia Falcone expansion)
continuing my thoughts on Sofia Falcone coming off your great opinions to my last ask.
There is a parallel thread between Bruce and Sofia

The core problem of Campaign 3's god debate is that the only real support offered by the anti-god side is "some people are mad at the gods" and no one -- in-universe or out -- seems to realize that the mere existence of people who dislike the gods isn't sufficient to make "should the gods stay or go?" into a hyper-complex morally grey debate, any more than the mere existence of global warming denialists is sufficient to make the factual reality of climate change into a hyper-complex scientific debate. "People who are mad at the gods exist, therefore the current system is broken somehow" is the mentality of people-pleasing: if someone is mad at you, it proves that you're a bad person who did something to make them mad, and you are now morally obligated to internalize everything they say about you and devote all your energy to appeasing them.
I am, personally, of the opinion that it is vitally important for people in positions of power to maintain a healthy awareness of their own fallibility and cultivate lines of feedback from lower down in the chain the way software developers provide bug report forms; however, the reality I encountered when I accepted a forum moderation position years ago is that, if you're an Authority Figure™ of any stripe, for every person with a good-faith criticism of a poor ruling you made while overtired or an outdated policy that needs to be revised, there are a dozen who shake their fists at you because they want someone to be mad at. And when you look at the actual substance of the complaints being made (nearly all of which display a fundamental refusal to grapple with the scale the gods operate on and how that affects their decision-making) and ask "what, if anything, could/should the gods have done differently?" and "is getting rid of the gods actually a viable solution to this problem?", they're all firmly in that latter category.

To go down the list:
Vecna: If we're treating "people who are mad at the gods" as a Marginalized Group™ whose grievances are Good Points™ and Worth Considering™ simply because they are grievances with The People in Power™, then Vecna is part of said Marginalized Group™, seeing as he holds a massive grudge against the gods who helped banish him beyond the Divine Gate and per the campaign books his ultimate goal is to eliminate the worship of all deities other than himself. One can only imagine how hard he's kicking himself for failing to find out about Predathos before his own ascension.
Ludinus: His parents will still be dead whether he succeeds or fails, and preventing the same thing from happening to others is what the Divine Gate is for. Killing the gods would not only not prevent similar tragedies, it would, at least in the short term, actively make things worse: assuming Tharizdun doesn't just eat everything, how does he expect Lesser Idols like Uk'otoa to react to a glorious new age where there are no gods to keep them in check and millions of newly deity-less clerics are stuck watching people die whom they could have saved if they still had their spells? Moreover, what happens when people discontented with his glorious new era swear vengeance on those they blame for taking their gods from them, as Ludinus swore vengeance on those he blames for his parents' deaths, or start idealizing the lost age of the gods and looking for ways to somehow bring them back, as Ashton does with the Titans? Does the perspective of people who like the gods then become Worth Considering™, if they've gone from being Privileged™ to being a Marginalized Group™ who have been collectively traumatized by the loss of something precious to them?
Aeor: One of the major takeaways from Downfall was that Aeor was extremely decadent, corrupt, stratified, and generally dystopian at its height. Their main reason for wanting the gods dead seems to be not liking the existence of anything more powerful than them, and anyone arguing that the gods are Too Powerful To Exist needs to explain why the tiny cabal of mages at the tippy-top of Aeor's societal pyramid, wielding power that 99.9% of Exandrians will never have access to, were not themselves Too Powerful To Exist, especially given their evident imperialist ambitions.
Dorian: I won't downplay the genuine grievance there, but a. Opal was victimized by one of the Betrayer Gods, and what to do about them is a question that Vespin Chloras and Cassida Previn, for all their hubris, approached with considerably more nuance, and b. per the post linked in the previous bullet point, if your ultimate goal is to prevent all ill-advised deals with powerful entities and the unpleasant consequences thereof, where exactly do you stop?
Tuldus and Hearthdell: Plenty of irreligious people across Exandria are living their best lives unmolested, so the whole "you must be religious OR ELSE" isn't something the gods themselves are demanding in a systemic way, and getting rid of them wouldn't prevent all oppression any more than it would prevent all cataclysms and mass deaths. (It might not even stop the oppression committed by those specific religious people; per 'personality predates ideology', the ones who are in it to bully others and feel righteous about it will simply look for a different excuse to do so if their current one is taken from them.) There's a genuine debate to be had about how much responsibility the gods bear for their followers' actions and one could, more reasonably, accuse them of having become too lax and needing to be more stringent about telling their priests to cut that kind of shit out (though that in turn opens the question of how much they can micromanage their followers' behavior before it becomes genuinely smothering and oppressive), but it runs counter to the "the gods have too much control" narrative the Vanguard is pushing.
Liliana: Every parroted accusation she levies at the Exandria's pantheon is something Predathos and its worshippers are far, FAR more guilty of, but Predathos doesn't present itself as a caring, benevolent entity in the same way the Prime Deities do, and she expects us to believe that it admitting that it's bad somehow makes it good. (There's a Slacktivist quote that I think sums up the underlying logic here: "Once you've decided that the Most Important Thing is to avoid the wolf in sheep's clothing, your safest course of action is to embrace the wolf in wolf's clothing.")
Ashton: Essentially blames the gods for refusing to micromanage reality on their behalf and, in focusing so much on his own pain, hasn't stopped to ask what the world would look like if the gods actually felt obligated to micromanage reality on behalf of everyone who petitioned them that way, not just him personally. My dad is an agnostic and specifically doesn't believe in a god who answers prayer because what's a god to do when there's a baseball game and both teams have fans praying for their victory (or when there's a war and both armies include adherents of a given faith)?
Bor'dor: It's one thing to say that the gods have certain obligations to their followers and quite another to say that that the gods are supposed to keep their followers swaddled in bubble wrap 24/7 and prevent them from experiencing any consequences for their own actions whatsoever, and arguing that the Wildmother should have somehow stopped Bor'dor's family's suicide charge from resulting in their deaths is the latter.
Vox Machina: Continue to hold a grudge against the Matron for taking Vax away and would like to believe her being gone would make him mortal again, but when you stop to think about Vax as a person with his own feelings and opinions about his relationship with the Matron, instead of as a passive object to be fought over, the "what if Predathos eats the Matron?" scenario looks a hell of a lot bleaker. There's also the question of whether or not Predathos would consider Vax himself edible; a mere celestial might be one of those half-crushed potato chip fragments at the bottom of the bag in comparison to a god, but when you've been trapped and starving for thousands of years...
Zathuda: Objects not to being told 'no' but to the existence of forces who could potentially tell him no, which to me reads as an asshole whining about how unfair and oppressive it is when people see his assholery and tell him to cut it the fuck out.

Even if you bribe a kid into accompanying you, there is no guarantee that said kid would behave, there are negative guarantees if the kid is Richard Grayson.
Of course Bruce could just leave him at the Manor, but his helicopter parenting keep too many terrible scenarios of what might happen with his kid and, most importantly, he would have no excuse to leave the galas early. Taking Dick to the galas was for his benefit more than anything else. But he also knows that if he takes that path his responsibilities double.
Dick needs to be entertained, which is no problem, even though Alfred has a no-screen policy, Bruce is delighted not to be entangled in any unfruitful small talk and just have conversations with his son ward all night.
Dick doesn’t like any of the other kids from high society, so Bruce is prepared to have a child-shaped koala with him all night. They just need to get to 9 o'clock, and then Bruce can excuse them because Dick is tired.
The real problem was the speeches, oh my god, the speeches.
They were too long for Dick’s attention span, and there was not much a napkin could do to distracted someone, they couldn’t talk, or it would be seen as disrespectful (they did it once, and this led to Alfred scolding them both). So, the solution they found was Bingo.
Dick's family used to play Bingo with him while traveling with the circus. “The showman will forget his lines,” or “The clown will have its nose stolen by a baby,” or even “It will rain” – anything was on the table. The bingo cards were made beforehand by them and could list at most 10 things they thought would happen while in the city. Whoever got the most correct wins and could ask for anything they wanted.
Alfred found the idea genius. He did something of the sort with Bruce when he was younger, trying to distract him while Martha and Thomas mingled with the society. By that day beyond, the Waynes had a bingo card for almost every gala they attended. It also served as memory game, trying to remember everyone in high society, and made both of them train their stealth. No one could know what they were doing or the game was lost. The most common to appear was “Drakes will not go” since they were always traveling, and “Kate will be late” once they knew their cousin would do everything in her power to not make an appearance.
The rules were simple: 1 - Behave, if there’s anything but a well behaved appearance the game is over; 2 - The events can not be provoked, you can’t influence the outcomes; 3 - No one can know what they are doing.
Even Barbara got to play! Alfred described it as a gladiator's fight, both having competitors' souls and hating to lose for one another; the end of the night, when the points were counted, sounded like a deputy election. Jim almost never went to galas, but he was glad they were having fun, he was content with free babysitting and a entire day to himself.
And so, the tradition carried on. By Jason's first gala, Dick was so excited that he even spent the night before at the manor helping him complete his card. Soon enough, they noticed the great sibling bonding time in that. Sadly, Bruce had lost his spot in the competition but was happy his kids were having fun together. Tim received his at a patrol before the gala from Dick and just went, “Oh, that’s what you guys were doing all along?” He admits it was his funniest night and less stealthy bingo ever. The Drakes were seated two tables away from the Waynes, and Dick couldn’t stop glaring at him every time Tim made a point. “Just how the kid predicted a whole fight between two mistresses?” The first place was never more difficult to win.
Cassandra and Stephanie almost couldn’t contain their laughter when they scored “Mayor will say ‘and’ at least 27 times,” poor guy got more nervous by each laugh and the point was almost lost because “he started to gag more because of them”. By Damian's time, it was a day’s thing preparation. The whole family was entangled in gossip about high society; they knew about pregnancies, affairs, money laundering. Damian found the game nonsense and refused to play, but they could see him perking by Dick's shoulder to see if he got the point or not.
When Jason was back from the dead and in civil terms with the family, he was given a card by mail and small instructions on the back. Somehow, Jason got the second-highest score that night. When Duke came by, it almost looked like a cambio house! They started to make chips to know how many times someone won (also a attempt to accompany Bruce to the galas with more frequency) and they were exchanged it regularly, it could also be passed down for favors with each other. Bruce and Alfred were the only final line; they cashed the chips for days without patrol, favorite foods, bigger allowances, etc.
They are pretty serious about their game, Cassandra has the most chips but only use them to scape shores, Tim is the champion six galas in a row and Dick as not won a game since he was 17.

Are YOU on the DHS’s “Extremist” List?
The DHS has turned against the people. Critical thinkers like YOU are being labeled “extremists.” Surveillance hubs, tools like Albert Sensors, and entities like Fusion Centers are watching your every move. This is NOT about safety—it’s about CONTROL.
If you question authority, challenge mandates, or stand for your freedoms, YOU’RE ALREADY ON THEIR RADAR. And guess what? So am I. Proudly. But this isn’t just about us—it’s about dismantling a corrupt system before it’s too late.
Fusion Centers: The Orwellian Nightmare
They claim to “prevent terrorism,” but Fusion Centers have become surveillance hubs tracking YOU—the average American. These centers may even monitor real-time election data, controlling the very democracy they pretend to protect.
Albert Sensors & Cradlepoint Routers: Trojan Horses
These so-called “cybersecurity tools” funnel data straight to DHS databases. Worse, many Cradlepoint routers come from China, a nation infamous for surveillance. Why are these devices in our critical infrastructure? What backdoors exist? Who’s watching YOU?
CISA: The Silencer of Dissent
Under the guise of “cybersecurity,” CISA flags opinions, controls narratives, and labels truth-seekers as “disinformers.” This isn’t protection—it’s suppression.
DHS’s True Target: YOU
According to internal memos, DHS targets those questioning elections, mandates, and policies. By branding concerned citizens as threats, they spread fear to suppress dissent. But WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.
The Solution: Revolution, Not Reform
The DHS is beyond repair. Here’s what must happen:
Abolish Fusion Centers, CISA, and CIS—their surveillance and overreach are cancerous.
Eliminate Albert Sensors and Cradlepoint routers—investigate their misuse and secure our systems.
Demand oversight—no program should exist without public scrutiny.
This isn’t reform—it’s a takedown.
America at a Tipping Point
Liberty cannot survive under constant surveillance. If you value freedom, if you dare to think for yourself, wear their labels as a badge of honor. But don’t stop there.
Speak out. Fight back. Take action. The DHS must be dismantled, and its power returned to the people. This is OUR country, not theirs.
The storm is here... Will you rise? 🤔

This is one of the best articles I’ve seen yet on Trump, Trumpism, and the upcoming election. It’s directed at the right and centre-right (whereas most tumblr posts on this are directed at the left), but it’s saying – with detailed analysis and evidence – exactly what needs to be said, to everyone. This is not a normal election. How you vote this November determines whether you ever get the chance to vote in a democratic election again. This is not a game. Fascism is not a buzzword or a rhetorical device to hurl at anyone and everyone you disagree with. It is real, it is dangerous, and Trump is openly running on a fascist platform.
There are only two sides in this election: those who want the United States to be a fascist dictatorship and those who do not.
I live in Canada. I do not want to live next to a fascist state (especially since the Comservatives here are way ahead in the polls and their leader gives every sign of wanting to cozy up to Trump).
Please, stop this while you still have a chance.
Today we’re going to look at definitions of fascism and ask the question – you may have guessed – if Donald Trump is running for President as a fascist. Worry not, this isn’t me shifting to full-time political pundit, nor is this the formal end of the hiatus (which will happen on Nov 1, when I hope to have a post answering some history questions from the ACOUP Senate to start off on), but this was an essay I had in me that I had to get out, and working on the book I haven’t the time to get it out in any other forum but this one. And I’ll be frank, some of Donald Trump’s recent statements and promises have raised the urgency of writing this; the political science suggests that politicians do, broadly, attempt to do the things they promise to do – and the things Trump is promising are dark indeed.
Now I want to be clear what we’re doing here. I am not asking if the Republican Party is fascist (I think, broadly speaking, it isn’t) and certainly not if you are fascist (I certainly hope not). But I want to employ the concept of fascism as an ideology with more precision than its normal use (‘thing I don’t like’) and in that context ask if Donald Trump fits the definition of a fascist based on his own statements and if so, what does that mean. And I want to do it in a long-form context where we can get beyond slogans or tweet-length arguments and into some detail.
Now the response from some folks is going to be anger that I am even asking this question and demands for me to ‘stay in my lane.’ To which I must remind them that the purpose of history and historians is, as Thucydides put it, is to offer “an exact knowledge of the past as an aid to the understanding of the future, which in the course of human affairs must resemble if it does not reflect it” (Thuc. 1.22.4). This is my lane. Goodness knows, I’d much rather be discussing the historical implications of tax policy or long-term interstate strategy, but that isn’t the election we’re having. And if hearing about these things that happened is unpleasant, well, Polybius offers the solution: “men have no more ready corrective of conduct than knowledge of the past” (Plb. 1.1.1). We must correct our conduct.
The author, Bret Devereaux, lays out the history of the rise to power of Hitler and Mussolini and draws out the lessons
What I want to note here are two key commonalities: First, fascists were only able to take power because of the gullibility of those who thought they could ‘use’ the fascists against some other enemy (usually communists). Traditional conservative politicians (your Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham types) and conservative business leaders (your Elon Musks) fooled themselves into believing that, because the would-be tyrant seemed foolish, buffoonish, and uneducated that such an individual could be controlled to their ends, shaped in more productive, more ‘moderate,’ more ‘business friendly’ directions. They were wrong; many of them paid for their foolish error with their lives (Victor Emmanuel III paid for it with his crown). Mussolini and Hitler would not be ‘shaped,’ – they would be exactly the violent, tyrannical dictators they had promised to be – to the total and utter ruin of their countries.
Note that these men were not exactly subtle about what they wanted to do. Mein Kampf is not a subtle book. But they both knew how to promise violence to their followers while prevaricating to their temporary allies; be wary of the fascist who promises violence in his rally speeches but assures you that, if you just give him power, he won’t hurt anyone (except the people you don’t like) – because it is a lie, of course.
Second: once these fascist leaders were in power it was already too late to stop them. Precisely because fascists had no respect for democratic processes and the rule of law – things they had declared openly in seeking power – once in power, they were unconstrained by them and swiftly set about converting all of the powers of the government into a machine to keep them in power. And the conversion from democracy to dictatorship was remarkably swift, in Italy, Mussolini marched in October of ’22, rewrote the election rules in November of ’23 and by December of ’24 had effectively dropped even the pretense of democracy; just two years. Hitler was faster: appointed chancellor in January 1933, by March of that year he had suspended constitutional protections and ruled by fiat; just three months.
The time to stop an authoritarian takeover of a democratic system is before the authoritarian is in office, because once they are in power, they will use that power, to stay in power and it becomes almost impossible to remove them without considerable violence (and difficult to do even with considerable violence).
That, however, creates a tricky situation. With most political ideologies, voters can adopt a strategy of judging by outputs: “if you don’t like the current government’s policies, let these other fellows here have a go at it and see if they do better. If not, you can always vote them out next time.” But with fascists and other authoritarians there may not be a next time and this strategy fails: by the time the actions of the fascists make it clear they are dangerous, it is too late to vote them out.
This is why it is important to listen carefully to what fascists say and what they promise and most importantly to take their threats of political violence and authoritarianism seriously.
Which is not to say that everything on the right is fascism (just as not everything on the left is its own authoritarian variant, communism). Ronald Reagan was not a fascist, nor was George H.W. Bush or George W. Bush or John McCain or Mitt Romney. They were conservatives within the liberal tradition (again, ‘liberal’ here in the old Jefferson-Locke-and-Washington sense). Most Republicans today are not fascists, although a distressing number appear ready to repeat Franz von Papen’s mistake of assuming they can achieve their goals through an alliance with fascists. Only the devil wins such a devil’s bargain.
How is one to tell the difference? Listen to the things they promise to do and understand that they make speak out of both sides of their mouth: promising violence to one audience and then toning down their rhetoric to another. But politicians speaking from within the tradition of liberty don’t need to speak that way because they don’t promise violence in the first place.
Listen for the promises of violence, the promises to suspend press freedoms, the promises to persecute political adversaries and when you hear them believe them.
I strongly recommend reading the whole article, as the author goes on to lay out two of the more common definitions of fascism and analyze, point-by-point, how Trumpism fits them.
There is a reason why some Republicans, even some of the people who were in Trump’s inner circle in 2016-2020, have jumped ship now. The Republicans who are willing to vote for Kamala aren’t doing it because she’s conservative – they’re doing it because they’re anti-fascist. It would be deeply ironic if people on the left who have been calling themselves anti-fascists for the last eight years proved to be less so than those Republicans. This may be one of the most crucial moments in American history. Take it seriously.

Climate fatalism is just as wrong as climate denial — it’s never ‘too late’ for change
from the article:
The message of climate fatalism is just as wrong as the worst climate deniers. It is absurd to claim that it’s “too late” to stop climate change. We know for sure that it is possible to prevent the release of greenhouse gases. The atmosphere heats in response to the volume of greenhouse gases we pump into it. The less we add, the less the heating. If you accept the basic science explaining how we make things worse, you must accept the basic science of how we stop making things worse. It is an almost weirdly linear relationship. We also know that the collective policy, technology and activism efforts of our entire species since the 1990s have resulted in a noticeable reduction in reliance on burning fossil fuels, compared to the parallel universe in which we did nothing at all. You can see this when you view the world’s carbon emissions compared to the spaghetti spread of scenarios published many years ago. We have avoided both the worst- and best-case scenarios, and have ended up somewhere in the middle. This recent study found implemented policies to date likely reduced global emissions by “several billion tons of [carbon dioxide equivalent] per year compared to a world without mitigation policies”, equivalent to between 4% and 15% of 2020’s total global emissions. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Working Group Three report dedicates several pages to this, saying, “There is robust evidence with a high level of agreement that mitigation policies have had a discernible impact on emissions.”
[...]
Donald Trump’s election feels reminiscent of the first year of COVID-19. A deep blanket of anxiety and instability is impacting the US and countries with close ties. In this haze, fatalists find new purchase. Whatever Suzuki’s intentions, his comments fuel real and serious feelings of helplessness and despair. There is danger in fatalism that goes well beyond creating dejection and justifying inaction. The broad feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are a boon to both authoritarian, fascist governments and the fossil fuel industry, both of which rely on few realising how brittle their grip on power is. There are direct links between “doomer” communities and increasingly explicit agreement with eco-fascist elements. One prominent self-described “doomer” recently described themselves as an “eco-Nazi”: “The one and only solution to the problem — the FINAL solution — is to make Planet Earth a human-free zone.” Gaming social media algorithms to loudly reinforce the physical terror of climate impacts and then insisting there’s nothing we can do to stop those impacts feels pretty sinister to me.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and African Liberation: A Garveyite Perspective on Global Power Shifts, Neo-Colonialism, and the Unfinished Struggle for Black Sovereignty
The fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, marked the symbolic end of the Cold War and the collapse of Soviet influence in Eastern Europe. This global event had profound implications not only for Europe but also for Africa, as it signaled the decline of socialist support for African liberation movements, the rise of unchallenged Western capitalism, and the acceleration of neo-colonialism across the continent.
From a Garveyite perspective, the fall of the Berlin Wall was not a victory for true African liberation—it was a moment that exposed Africa’s continued dependency on foreign superpowers and the lack of self-sufficient economic and military structures needed to withstand Western neo-imperialism. Marcus Garvey’s ideology warns that African freedom can never be dependent on the shifting tides of global politics; it must be built through Pan-African unity, economic self-reliance, and military self-defense.
This analysis will explore:
The Cold War’s impact on Africa and how superpower rivalries shaped African liberation movements.
How the fall of the Berlin Wall weakened African nations and increased Western economic control.
The rise of neo-colonialism and U.S.-led globalization in Africa after 1989.
How Garveyism provides the solution for real African independence beyond the East-West struggle.
1. The Cold War and Its Impact on African Liberation
For nearly four decades, Africa was caught between the superpower rivalry of the United States (capitalism) and the Soviet Union (socialism).
A. Africa as a Battleground for Cold War Ideologies
Many newly independent African nations, struggling with underdevelopment and instability, sought support from either the U.S. or the USSR.
The Soviet Union supported African liberation movements, providing weapons, training, and financial aid to fight colonial rule.
The U.S. and Western allies backed puppet regimes and right-wing dictatorships that aligned with their economic and military interests.
Example: The Soviet Union provided military support to Angola’s MPLA, Mozambique’s FRELIMO, and South Africa’s ANC, while the U.S. and apartheid South Africa funded UNITA and RENAMO to destabilize these governments.
B. How the Cold War Strengthened African Liberation Struggles
The USSR’s backing of revolutionary movements gave African nations a counterbalance to Western dominance.
Cuba played a major role in anti-colonial struggles, sending 36,000 troops to Angola to fight against apartheid South African forces.
African leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana), Julius Nyerere (Tanzania), and Thomas Sankara (Burkina Faso) implemented socialist-inspired policies that sought self-sufficiency.
Example: The Battle of Cuito Cuanavale (1987–88) in Angola, where Cuban and Angolan forces defeated apartheid South Africa, was a turning point that accelerated the fall of white minority rule in Southern Africa.
Key Takeaway: During the Cold War, Africa had an alternative to Western neo-colonialism. The fall of the Berlin Wall ended that counterbalance, leaving Africa exposed to full Western domination.
2. The Fall of the Berlin Wall: How It Affected Africa
With the collapse of the Soviet Union (1991) and the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), Africa lost a key source of support for anti-imperialist struggles. This led to three major consequences:
A. The Withdrawal of Socialist Support Weakened African Nations
Without Soviet aid, many African governments lost financial and military backing.
Cuba could no longer send troops or resources to African liberation struggles.
African socialist experiments collapsed, leading to economic crises and internal conflicts.
Example: The end of Soviet support led to economic collapse in Angola, Mozambique, and Ethiopia, forcing these nations to turn to Western financial institutions (IMF, World Bank) for aid, which led to deep debt and structural adjustment policies.
B. The Expansion of Western-Controlled Globalization in Africa
With socialism weakened, the U.S. and Europe expanded economic control over Africa, forcing nations to adopt pro-capitalist policies.
The IMF and World Bank imposed Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs), which forced African governments to cut public services, privatize industries, and open markets to foreign investors.
Western multinational corporations took advantage of Africa’s economic instability, gaining control over natural resources and industries.
Example: In the 1990s, the IMF forced Ghana to privatize its industries and cut social spending, leading to worsening poverty despite economic “growth.”
C. The Rise of Western-Controlled Regime Change in Africa
The fall of the Berlin Wall gave the U.S. and NATO free reign to overthrow or manipulate African governments without fear of Soviet intervention.
Western-backed coups increased, targeting African leaders who resisted neo-colonial control.
The U.S. used “democracy promotion” as a cover for regime change, while maintaining economic control.
Example: Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso was assassinated (1987),with Western backing, because they resisted U.S.-led globalization.
Key Takeaway: After 1989, Africa was left defenceless against Western capitalism, neo-colonial exploitation, and foreign economic control.
3. The Garveyite Critique: Why the Fall of the Berlin Wall Was NOT a Victory for Africa
From a Garveyite perspective, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union did not bring freedom to Africa—it increased neo-colonial domination by the West.
A. Africa Was Still Economically Dependent on Foreign Powers
Even after independence, African nations did not control their own economies—Western banks, corporations, and foreign governments did.
Marcus Garvey taught that true liberation requires economic self-reliance, not just political independence.
Example: Even today, 14 African nations still use the CFA Franc, a currency controlled by France.
B. No Unified African Military Defence Against Western Imperialism
Without Soviet backing, Africa became vulnerable to the U.S. and NATO military interventions.
Garvey envisioned a strong, self-sufficient African military, but Africa instead remained divided and dependent on foreign security.
Example: The 2011 NATO bombing of Libya, which overthrew Gaddafi, showed that Africa had no defence against Western military intervention.
C. The Absence of a United States of Africa Allowed Foreign Exploitation
Garvey believed in a single, powerful African nation-state, not separate, weak countries easily controlled by foreign interests.
The African Union (AU) remains politically weak, with no real power to challenge Western economic control.
Example: Despite Africa having vast natural resources, foreign corporations and banks still control African industries, from oil in Nigeria to cobalt in the Congo.
Key Takeaway: The collapse of the Soviet Union left Africa politically and economically vulnerable, proving that true liberation requires complete independence from all foreign powers—not just from one side of the Cold War.
4. The Garveyite Solution: How Africa Can Achieve True Liberation
To reverse the damage done after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Africa must:
Nationalize Resources – African countries must take back control of oil, minerals, and agriculture from foreign corporations.
End Foreign Economic Control – Africa must break free from IMF, World Bank, and Western trade policies that keep it in debt.
Create an Independent African Military – Africa must build its own defence system to prevent the U.S. and NATO interventions.
Unify Under a Single African Government – A United States of Africa, as Garvey envisioned, is the only way to resist Western neo-colonialism.
Strengthen Pan-African Trade – Africa must trade within its own borders rather than relying on Europe, the U.S., or China.
Final Takeaway: The fall of the Berlin Wall was not a victory for Africa—it was a warning that Africa must become self-reliant, or it will remain under foreign control forever.
Conclusion: The Struggle for True African Independence Continues
The post-1989 world order made Africa more vulnerable to neo-colonialism than ever before. Today, Africa must:
Reject all foreign economic domination.
Unify into a single powerful African nation.
Build its own military and financial institutions.
As Marcus Garvey warned, political freedom without economic and military power is an illusion. Africa must finish the revolution—only then will true Pan-African liberation be achieved.

★ aquarius new moon | 1/29 | the collective ★
the aquarius new moon isn’t here to play nice. this energy is about shaking up the status quo and pushing the collective to think beyond traditional systems. globally, we’re seeing conversations around technology, governance, and community building take center stage. whether it’s discussions about AI regulation, grassroots movements for climate action, or the push for decentralized economies, this moon is amplifying the need for radical innovation and collaboration.
★ aquarius is all about progress, and the new moon is asking, “what’s your role in shaping the future?” we’re seeing countries debating policies on renewable energy, protests demanding corporate accountability, and an ongoing global dialogue about bridging the gap between economic inequality and technological advancements. this energy demands collective action, not passive hope.
★ aquarius energy can feel detached, and with the rapid pace of global events, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or disconnected. burnout is real as the pressure to “fix everything” mounts. people might overthink global issues to the point of inaction, forgetting that small, local efforts also matter.
★ mercury conjunct pluto in aquarius: deep dives & accountability ★
this aspect is dragging skeletons out of closets on a collective scale. whistleblowers, investigative journalism, and public demand for transparency are at an all-time high. the truth is surfacing, and it’s making waves in politics, corporations, and social systems.
★ headlines are dominated by revelations of corruption, mismanagement, and systemic failure. governments are being forced to reckon with public dissatisfaction, whether it’s over healthcare policies, economic inequality, or environmental negligence. globally, movements for justice are gaining traction, and accountability is becoming non-negotiable.
★ this transit can lead to obsessive thinking and paranoia. conspiracy theories might gain traction, and the line between fact and fiction could blur. the collective needs to practice discernment and avoid sensationalist rabbit holes.
★ venus conjunct neptune in pisces: compassion meets disillusionment ★
with humanitarian crises escalating—ranging from climate disasters to the global refugee situation—this transit highlights the collective’s deep desire to help but also reveals the limitations of idealism.
★ empathy is at an all-time high, with people rallying to support those in need. relief efforts for climate-impacted regions and global calls for mental health reform reflect this compassionate energy. art, music, and storytelling are thriving, acting as outlets for processing collective grief and hope.
★ neptune’s influence can lead to escapism. some may turn a blind eye to crises, overwhelmed by their scale, while others might romanticize solutions without considering practical steps. idealistic movements need grounding to create lasting change.
★ mars retrograde in cancer: emotional recalibration ★
mars retrograde in cancer is hitting home—literally. with housing crises, inflation, and strained family dynamics, the collective is being forced to confront its relationship with security and stability.
★ expect heightened focus on housing reform and cost-of-living debates. family structures are also under scrutiny, with many reevaluating traditional roles and creating new dynamics of support. on an emotional level, people are prioritizing self-care and mental health, recognizing that rest is essential for resilience.
★ passive-aggressive behaviors and unresolved tensions are surfacing. political gridlock over economic relief measures could exacerbate frustrations, leading to protests or emotional burnout on both personal and collective levels.
★ uranus and saturn: rebuilding foundations ★
uranus in taurus and saturn in pisces are playing the long game, reshaping how we live, work, and interact with the planet. these planets are clashing with traditional institutions that resist change, creating friction but also opening pathways for innovation.
★ sustainable farming practices, renewable energy, and shifts in labor markets are key areas of focus. discussions about universal basic income and fair wages are gaining momentum as people demand equitable systems that prioritize well-being over exploitation.
★ resistance from traditional industries and governments may slow progress. tensions between rapid innovation and long-term stability could lead to economic uncertainty, with stock markets reflecting the push-and-pull of these forces.
★ what this means for the collective moving forward ★
★ the mercury-pluto conjunction signals a collective hunger for honesty and justice. expect more revelations about corruption and inequality, with public pressure forcing systemic reform. separating truth from sensationalism will remain a critical challenge.
★ venus and neptune are pushing the collective to lead with compassion. grassroots movements will shine, but there’s a need to balance hope with practical action to avoid burnout and disillusionment.
★ mars retrograde is forcing us to reconsider what emotional and physical security look like in a rapidly changing world. housing reform, mental health initiatives, and support for low-income communities will take center stage.
★ uranus and saturn remind us that progress doesn’t have to abandon tradition. expect debates over how to modernize without losing cultural roots or foundational structures.
★ collective prediction: the next few weeks ★
the collective is entering a period of profound recalibration. political systems will face increasing pressure to reform as public trust erodes. climate discussions will dominate global summits, with bold initiatives being proposed but met with skepticism about their feasibility. economic instability may spike as industries navigate the push for sustainability versus profit.
creativity and community will act as anchors during this turbulent time. grassroots movements, mutual aid efforts, and artistic expression will provide solace and inspiration. the collective is being called to dream boldly but also to ground those dreams in practical steps.
key takeaway: this is a time for resilience and intentional action. the cosmos is asking us to hold leaders accountable, nurture our communities, and embrace change without fear. while the challenges are great, the potential for transformation is even greater.

I've been processing and reflecting to try to make sense of things, and it strikes me that Trump won because he:
incited fear
of tangible things
And positioned himself as the solution
He tapped into people's fear of the other (immigrants, trans people, etc) which *feels* immediate as you experience it, and therefore tangible. And maybe more importantly for the swing right we saw compared to 2020, he tapped into fear of economic harm--which people are experiencing today, now, in real ways.
And then he presented himself as the solution, with a few specific consistent talking points that might have been ridiculous and extreme but that people could hold onto. As a result, voting for Trump becomes a direct solution to your immediate fears.
You can counter fear by
alleviating it
explaining why it's unfounded
giving someone something worse to be afraid of
And at least from what I saw from the messaging I received as a swing state voter...Kamala tried to mainly do the latter but with *hypothetical, conceptual fears.*
Loss of rights, decline of the conceptual institutions of democracy--for some people these are immediate. But for most they're intangible, vaguely situated in a future that may never come to pass. Which means they are less acute, less likely to balance out today's active, tangible concerns.
She didn't explain how she would alleviate those immediate fears of the other (I would say her foray into immigration policy was poorly received by all sides, and reinforced Trumps stance). And probably more importantly, she was unable to cogently explain why people's tangible economic fears were unfounded OR how she would solve them. While rhe ad buy format is obvipuslt limited, her economic stance *as communicated* was about how Trump would make it worse (future oriented, hypothetical, non-immediate), not about any tangible solutions and policy she would put into place.
Which means her campaign basically came down to relying on a large, motivated group of anti-Trump voters...and those people were already activated against him. And she wasn't able to present anything to build on that beyond intangible, hypothetical fears and she just...wasn't going to win with that.
So what does that mean? It feels like future policy communications may be more effective focusing on specific policies that appeal regardless of demographic group (free daycare, broad healthcare affordability, education costs) rather than appeals to ideals like rights and freedoms. And that there likely needs to be a shift away from why the opposition is so scary and ridiculous, to why the opposition is *wrong.*
A move toward the tangible, and a reconceptualizing of major goals that *are* more focused around rights and freedoms in terms of the tangible steps to realize them--which will also provide a road map to follow.
(Theres obviously the confounding factor of Kamala being a woman - a lot of people wouldn't necessarily articulate that as a reason not to vote for her, but they'd be the person shaking their head at Trumps rhetoric but just believing he'd be better at managing the country no matter how nasty his language)

do you think that in a modern and current parameter anakin would support right-wing politicians? or famous politicians like trump and others?
this is such an interesting question!! and my short answer is probably not, or at least that i don’t go that route when i’m writing modern aus. i think that in general trying to paint anakin as right-wing in any deep-seated way isn’t accurate because as a character he isn’t any sort of ideologue.
anakin in the films is not someone with strong or coherent politics and also not someone who is motivated by politics. he’s witnessed injustice, he’s lived it, he’s seen firsthand that the systems in place don’t work, but he doesn’t have much of a stance beyond that being bad. people love citing the picnic scene in aotc as him spouting fascism, but on top of him not being that serious in that scene he’s also just bringing to light his own political ignorance. “the senate isn’t effective so they should be forced to agree on the best solution” is not a coherent enough position to belong anywhere on the political spectrum, and really it’s outright childish. it’s an absolute nothing stance from someone who has faced the direct consequences of the system’s shortcomings but isn’t politically literate. he dislikes politicians in general, and the only politicians he trusts are the ones he loves personally who he believes to be good people because he trusts them as people, regardless of their actual policy. this is one of the biggest things palpatine took advantage of when grooming him into darth vader. and that’s another thing to keep in mind about anakin’s politics: the closest thing to a right-wing politician he holds in high regard is the man who has been actively grooming him since the age of ten. anakin as vader becomes a face of the empire not because he politically believes in it but because he’s been effectively isolated and has essentially given up on doing anything else, and that position is one he only wound up in because it was initially presented as an opportunity to save padmé’s life.
so that’s what you’d be trying to translate into a modern context when asking this question, and none of it really equates to any sort of admiration of right-wing figures. i don’t think it’s implausible that it’d be easy to get him on board with some right-wing stances, but i don’t see any version of anakin being an outright ideologue, much less one who likes any politician enough to really rally behind them. he certainly wouldn’t be a trumpie because nothing about him really indicates that anything about trump’s platform or persona would be appealing. the most likely situations where he’d strongly support a politician would be ones adjacent to canon: through forming interpersonal relationships with politicians.
the route that feels most in-character to me and therefore the one i write when i’m doing modern aus is making him nihilistic about the system to the point of being apolitical. “both sides are bad” isn’t an inherently incoherent/centrist/unprincipled position (obviously) but it is kind of nothing if you have no actual principles going along with that stance and choose to just tune out of politics entirely, and that’s what i imagine anakin does for the most part. just like in canon i see him being generally concerned with injustice with no real idea on how to solve anything and that turning into unproductive and poorly-aimed anger at the vague idea of The System, because it doesn’t care about him so why should he care about it. and this would definitely make him easy to sway into some pretty bad opinions but there’s a big difference between that and being fully coherently right-wing. i just don’t see that happening unless you find a way to 1:1 recreate the context of the films in a modern american landscape, which you can’t! because if you were to do that he’d be less of a conservative and more of a personal samurai hitman for george w. bush which is not a real thing that a person can be.
#translating this kind of thing is my fave part of modern aus so i laurv the chance to ramble abt it#anakin skywalker#darth vader#star wars#star wars meta#asks

What Is Time Attendance Software and Why Does Your Business Need It?
Is your business still relying on manual timesheets, only to face payroll errors, absenteeism issues, or compliance headaches? If so, you're not alone. Many businesses still rely on outdated attendance tracking methods, unaware of how much they’re losing in productivity and accuracy. The solution? A smarter, automated system known as time attendance software.
In a world of remote teams, hybrid work, and increasingly complex labour laws, accurate time tracking is no longer optional. It’s essential for managing people efficiently, paying them fairly, and staying compliant.
Understanding Modern Attendance Systems
It’s a digital system designed to automatically log when employees begin and end their workday. It replaces manual methods like punch cards or Excel sheets with a secure, scalable system. Accessible via desktop, mobile app, biometric device, or web portal, it ensures accurate, real-time logging of time entries.
The software tracks clock-ins and outs, manages leaves, calculates overtime, and generates timesheets. Most platforms provide intuitive dashboards for both employees and administrators to view, manage, and approve attendance records.
Why Does Accurate Time Tracking Matter?
Time tracking underpins payroll, compliance, scheduling, and performance reviews. Inaccurate data can lead to wage disputes, legal issues, or staffing gaps.
With remote and hybrid teams now common, outdated tracking systems create inefficiencies and leave room for manipulation. Automation helps businesses enforce fair policies, reduce disputes, and better manage workforce allocation.
Core Features of a Reliable Time Attendance Solution
Most of the time, attendance systems offer:
Real-time monitoring for instant visibility of active staff, crucial for shift-based or remote teams.
Multi-device access, enabling employees to clock in via biometric scanners, web portals, or mobile apps.
Automated timesheets and reports reduce manual errors and simplify payroll and audits.
Leave and holiday management, allowing for streamlined time-off requests and approvals.
Integration with payroll, HRMS, or ERP systems, ensuring smooth data flow across departments and minimizing duplication.
Practical Applications Across Industries
This technology isn’t industry-specific, it delivers value across a wide range of sectors.
In manufacturing, biometric terminals ensure accurate clock-ins and eliminate buddy punching, where employees sign in for one another, supporting more reliable data for payroll and effective human resource management. In retail, location-based check-ins confirm that staff are present at the correct store. Remote teams in IT or customer service roles use mobile apps with GPS or face recognition to maintain transparency while working from home.
Whether it’s a five-person startup or a multinational enterprise, the system adapts to varying business models while delivering consistent efficiency gains.
Who Can Gain the Most from Digital Attendance Tools?
Any organization with employees working on an hourly basis, in shifts, across different locations, or under regulatory constraints should consider automating its attendance tracking as part of a more efficient workforce management strategy. Even companies with salaried professionals find value in monitoring time for project billing, compliance, or productivity analysis.
If your business is growing, facing payroll inconsistencies, or struggling with absenteeism and scheduling conflicts, implementing a time attendance solution is likely overdue.
Benefits Beyond the Obvious
Its benefits go far beyond clock-ins, it reshapes how businesses manage their workforce. It reduces administrative workload, eliminates payroll fraud, and enables smarter resource allocation. More importantly, it fosters a culture of accountability and transparency, which ultimately boosts employee trust and productivity.
By freeing up HR staff from repetitive data entry and resolving attendance-related issues proactively, the system allows organizations to focus on higher-level tasks like talent development and strategic planning.
How to Choose the Right System
Choosing the right software starts with understanding your business needs. Consider how many employees you have, where and how they work, and what level of visibility you require. Look for ease of use, mobile access, and compatibility with your existing payroll or HR platforms.
Security is another crucial factor. Attendance data includes personal and sensitive information, so the system must offer strong data encryption, secure login protocols, and compliance with privacy laws.
Most reputable providers offer free trials or demos. Testing the system with your team will help you evaluate its practicality and ensure long-term success.

Whenever I post about how I am voting for Kamala Harris and think it's important to vote for Democrats, and my post starts blowing up, I get a lot of negative comments from people who claim to be progressive, saying things like "Voting doesn't matter." or" Both parties are the same".
And here's the thing. I always check out these people's blogs.
And you want to know what? I never, not once, have found any of these people posting anything actionable to move beyond the two-party system. None of them mention or talk about ranked choice voting (RCV) or total vote runoff (TVR). None of them talk about the laws and structural factors that keep the two party system in power. None of them even have a candidate that they recommend voting for as a protest vote. None share and link to articles in high-quality media sources that break out of the right-left binary. And the ones that are calling for really radical solutions like revolution, none of them have a constitution, none of them have a proposed tax policy, none of them have a proposition of the way a radically different (such as growth-free) currency system could work.
And here's the thing. I do all of these things. I've been doing it for decades, since before I was even on Tumblr.
I'm not just voting blue. I'm voting blue AND advancing RCV and TVR. I have written pages and pages on tangible tax policy reform, on local zoning reform (I'm active locally pushing for such reform), transportation funding reform (pushing for it for 20+ years now). I've been involved in prison reform and abolition activism at the local and federal level. I even started a community currency 16 years ago.
Listen to me and listen to other people who are doing the work. We are all saying the same thing. Don't listen to these people who aren't doing the work. They claim to be radical but they're not doing anything at all. I don't know if they're real people or not, but they're butting into my posts and they're telling me and other people not to vote because it doesn't make a difference and doesn't do enough, but like...they're not doing anything at all to push society in a good direction, to solve problems, to build a better world. They're just posting negative stuff on some blog and they're not even posting information on their blog that might help tear down the systems they're supposedly opposed to.
I don't trust any of these people and I don't want you to either.
Seriously, if someone is telling you not to vote, telling you that your vote doesn't matter, scrutinize them. Who are they? What are they advocate? If they are telling you not to vote, what do they want you to do?
99% of the time they don't actually encourage you to do anything positive. And I have a sneaking suspicion that these people don't actually want to tear down the systems they are superficially criticizing, they are secretly trying to support them. I suspect that they actually want you to feel negative about voting and disengage. They want you to feel helpless, and to step back from the political system, to step out. They are serving the people who benefit when you don't vote. And that's the far-right authoritarians.
If you, like me, want a better society in a deeply flawed two-party system, you vote for the better of the two parties AND you take other measures too, supporting RCV (which had massive wins in both Maine and Alaska and could be implemented in more states if we work towards it) and TVR (far superior to the IRV used in Maine and Alaska), and researching and talking about issues and getting involved in issues that aren't being discussed. Join the Strong Towns movement and work to move beyond car dependence. Join the movement to expose the injustice of payroll tax and abolish all payroll taxation including FICA and all the smaller ones too and replace them with other taxes such as carbon tax or other, progressive consumption-based taxes. Start thinking critically about currency, maybe read Greco's book "Money: Understanding and Creating Alternatives to Legal Tender".
I am outside the two party system and have been so my whole life. I am doing the work and have been doing the work for decades now. So listen to me when I tell you to vote blue. Vote not just for Harris but research and look up your house and senate races and your state and local races as well and vote in all of them. It's a small but important step. And don't just stop there, do all of these other things I'm telling you about too. It's a "both...and" scenario.
Don't submit to these people trying to tell you not to vote. Scrutinize them. You will see what they are really about and once you see it you will not be manipulated by them.

Life Talk
Discussing how I'm dealing with Things beneath the cut.
I doubt I'll be able to say anything about the US election results that you haven't seen a million times before. I wasn't sure if I should bother commenting. I'm not sure where I am in the processing stages, so... Forgive me if my tone is weird. I definitely feel weird.
First thing's first; I've anticipated this outcome since people started blaming Biden for inflation. That's a typical thing in American politics; whoever is in charge currently is blamed for everything, which often causes the presidency to swap from D to R and back, regardless of where problems began. Of course, if voters really were worried about the economy, well... The Trump tariffs are a laughably, horrifically bad solution. But... I don't think the average American voter understands tariffs. So like. Whelp. There's a very real reason why Rs want to gut public education. Well, there are several, but yeah, a less educated populace is easier to fleece.
Obviously there are a million other horrible things going on here; if I tried to get into them all, I would never finish this post. But I can't say I'm experiencing shock or betrayal. I knew many Americans hate women, POC, the queer community, and others more than they care about their own self interests. Although most, I think, are simply not educated enough to understand that their self interests are at risk, and many others were sucked into the far right cult stuff years ago. Rs always scream about the liberal media, but so much American media (and social media!) is owned by the right, or is at least paid off by them. I'm wondering, as education continues to fail, especially given the next administration, will Americans have any hope of thinking beyond whatever Facebook posts and news in the pocket of (or in fear of) the right tells them?
We're in a bad way, but this didn't happen on the day of the election. We've been living in this environment for years, now. Are things about to get worse? Yes, of course. I think it's an important time to remember who your friends and loved ones are, to lean on them and check in on them, to do stupid fun stuff with them. And I think it's time to step away from the doom scrolling and inventing horrible what-if scenarios. Obviously this is a scary time; I'm not trying to diminish that. But spiraling causes pain now, PLUS more pain later if the bad thing comes to pass.
I've seen some interesting posts with actionable ideas. Get a passport ASAP, look into moving (to blue states, out of climate change buffer areas, or internationally if you can, although obviously that is not easy nor readily available), think about if your industry will be impacted by tariffs and sweeping federal government layoffs, get sterilized if you know you don't want kids, get that medical appointment you've been pushing off. Actionable stuff is productive! Spiraling isn't. Although uhhh, that's easier said than done. I'm just trying to push myself in a better direction, here.
As for me, here are some fractured snippets of how I've been feeling:
-Mourning. Shit, I'm 35. Trump will be in office until I'm 39. My child bearing window is closing. Are we not having a family bc of orange oompah loompah and his country and world destroying policies?
-I'm aware that I will be buffered from some things, purely because of how I look, where I live, etc. And the fact that I'm married to a safe man who adores me affords some protection. I feel weird about it, but must acknowledge it, so I don't get uhh. Disconnected from people who are more vulnerable than me. I think that Democratic politicians who mean well, but don't experience what so many Democrat constituents go through/suffer with for various reasons, becoming so... Out of touch and unrelatable... Um, I think that played a role in getting us here. It's difficult for these politicians to organize or affect change when their life experience is... Just overall safer by default. And this applies to people who aren't politicians, too, just on a less official level.
Those of us who are comparatively safer for various reasons need to hear people who are less safe and acknowledge that some things impact us differently, and we need to prioritize what the most vulnerable need.
-On the day before the election, I started Googling how to become a witch and books on witchcraft. I did it with a wry grin, because I'm aware that magic/witchcraft/New Age stuff/tarot/crystals/mysticism/etc surge in popularity during times of political and economic strife. Meaning that they are SUPER FUCKING POPULAR right now, and have been for a while. You might know that I'm a Seeker (tarot practitioner), but I'm also a scientist. I'm... not the most spiritual person.
But, like, FUCK IT. Time to become a witch. Time to creep into the wild woods and make a hut and live with the bears. TIME TO CURSE SOME MF-ers!
I told my reasonable friend. Here is our conversation:
Hidden: So I'm googling witch books.
Friend: No. We don't turn to magic in the face of tragedy. We drink hot cocoa.
Hidden: FINE I GUESS (hrmph!!!!)
I told another friend the same:
Friend: How are you holding up?
Hidden: Googling how to become a witch. So... yeah.
Friend: How... how DO you become a witch?
Hidden: IDK, that's why I'm googling it.
Sigh. I might still buy that book on the history of witchcraft and paganism. What, it's history! xD
-Otherwise, I've been weirdly fortunate that work has been so demanding. I've been learning more about in silico analysis lately (using huge protein databases to predict how developable a new antibody based drug might be, which residues to change, and how immunogenic your antibody might be). I'm learning and doing so much that I come home exhausted, but like. Maybe that's the lack of sleep on Tuesday night talking.
-I've been leaning into the animal of myself these last few days. The soft, squishy, vulnerable meat of me. Sleep and work and food and relying on my partner bond with my husband. Listening to his heartbeat, feeling the low rumble of his voice when we cuddle, letting skin on skin release safe and happy hormones.
-I think I need to get off reddit and its eternal doom. Like, permanently. Tumblr and Insta are the only other social media I use, but Tumblr is all digimon and Insta is all cats and dolls. I'm hoping the political posts that aren't primarily actionable die down on Tumblr soon, so I don't need to spend less time here, but obviously people need to post what they are going to post. If I'm here less, this is likely why.
Most of all, do what you can to beat back despair. I don't really have comforting words, except that you're not alone. Other people DO think and feel the way you do now. Let's all try to be there for each other, distract one another, and maybe have some hugs and hot drinks. Or like... start a coven, idk.
You are loved. Ask for help if you need to, offer it if you can.
