I swear, it's only an au because I wanted to hurt ronnie...

And because I've fell in love with Chris I can't stop writing him!

"I've been called back to top gun."

That's the first and only thing Jake told his dad. Chris knows better than ask for more knows Jake can't tell him anything else. Besides, if he's been called back, it must be big. His boy is old enough. His boy is strong enough. Chris still is his father, he worries.

"I know you can't tell me more," he told him instead. He pulled Jake closer before he walked toward the plane that would take him to Miramar. He hugged him tight. "Promise you'll be as safe as you can, chickie, okay?"

Jake can only nod tearfully. Chris almost never called him that, it's usually Jake. Jakey. Baby. Never chickie, unless--

"I promise papa. I love you."

"So do I."

Chris slipped not so discreetly something in his pocket. When Jake was sitting on the plane, javy at his side, he pinned the medal to his jacket.

"Any idea why we've been called there?"

Jake shook his head.

"As much as you do, Jav. Uncle is so busy that he even missed dad's birthday."

"You're kidding, I hope. He never--"

"I'm not expecting a text for mine either. Look, Jav, honestly... ever since Papa's--"

"So he just cuts you two off? Seriously?"

Jake doesn't tell him that last time he saw his uncle Ice, at least six months before, he could read him so well, and what he saw was raw pain. Something not even maverick could fix, something Jake only ever saw on his dad.

"The commander is busy..."

Jake said instead, and Javy scoffed. He looked at him, at the medal pinned to his jacket. He gently knocked twice on the medal.

"Admiral kerner, Sir, just in case you can hear me, there's an ass to kick, if you wouldn't mind."

Jake choked a laughter. He knew javy was trying to make him laugh. He also knew he would ask his father that, too. Except if his father was there, javy wouldn't need to ask him.

Seeing Maverick was weird, too. It wasn't like he stopped visiting, he still did it, and he still worked on cars with dad. But he was captain Mitchell there. And he was lieutenant Seresin.

Fuck. He wanted to change his name, he.thpught of that ever since papa and dad got married.

"I wanna take both. Can I?"

He never did, in the end. His name was still Jacob Seresin, and nothing else.

Captain Mitchell gave him a little smile, and Jake smiled back. And that was it. Jake stopped just a moment longer, staring at the pictures in the hall. Just one, long enough to feel himself tear up, and Javy wrapped an arm around his shoulders.

"He's proud of you. I know he is. And--"

He hesitated, waited for a group to pass behind them, shielding Jake from their prying eyes.

"He'll watch over you, like always."

Jake knew his best friend meant well, it didn't help him, though, not as he wanted to.

"Don't want him to watch over me, Jav." He sniffled quietly. "I wanted him there with me and dad."

Javy simply held him tight, so tight that Jake wished to disappear into his arms.

God, he missed him so, so much.

Jake almost got mav. God, he got so close to lock on him that it's almost scary. Mav knows he can't pick Jake. He can't play favoritism. Hell, if it was for him, he would pick none of those kids. He would fly out himself, on his own.

Jake almost got him, he's the one who got the closest, no wonder, he has one confirmed kill, too. The kid is good, and he's always been good.

Jake almost got a lock on Maverick, and all he could think as he initiated evasive maneuvers and got a lock on him was how crazy familiar that was.

Jake almost got Mav, the first time round, and it was so fucking painful. Two and half years had passed and Mav thought it was alright, he thought he was alright. He knew Chris would never be, nor would Jake. And God forbid Tom. But he thought he-- God, how wrong he was.

Mav swallowed as he passed the boys doing push up after losing. He didn't look down at them, his back straight, his eyes set ahead.

"He flies like him."

He doesn't say hi when Tom's face appears in the phone screen. Mav's crying, he can't stop, he can't fucking stop. Ice frowned, he tilted his head to the side.

"Bradley?"

They haven't talked to Bradley in years, he saw the photos, he looks exactly like Goose. Down to the last bit. It's like seeing Goose over and over again, there was no other way Mav could react, after all.

Mav shook his head, a louder sob escaping his lips, he wiped his face.

"Jake."

The sound is almost strained. Choked.

A plead.

"Tom, he flies just like Ron. I can't-- I can't even look him in the eyes without seeing him."

Jake had always looked like Ron. Not physically perhaps, but in the way he talked, and moved, amd, yeah... apparently flying, too.

"Mav--"

"Never thought I'd say it, you know? But I miss him. He should've--"

He shook his head.

"Forget I said it, baby."

He muttered when he saw Tom's eyes get glassy.

"I know, Pete. I miss him too."

For once, he spared him of the blame and guilt he felt every time.

Tom still felt guilty, he will always feel guilty. He sent Ron there, he sent him in the mission that ultimately-- he sent him to his death. It was a suicide mission, one with no ways to come out victorious. Or, well, they were victorious, there was no way to win AND come back too. Ron knew, Ron accepted.

Ron kissed his husband, and their son. He kissed Mav on the top of his head. He kissed Tom a moment longer.

Ron knew the risks. Ron knew there was no other way. He could've refused. He didn't.

Tom had to hand out the folded flag without a single tear on his face. Tom had to say a speech he wrote down, a paper where the ink was smudged by thousand tears and the page was crumpled. Tom-- the commander of the pacific fleet had to take off his wings and punch them.

Chris dared to forgive him.

"I miss his every fucking--" he broke.

Tom almost called Mav off when he decided to fly as team leader. He flew to Miramar, burst into the room like a fury, screaming at Maverick before even setting his eyes on him.

"It's suicide. You know it is."

"That's why I can't have the kids do that, don't you think?"

The commander almost called off the mission. Oh, if only he could.

"Tom--"

"I can't lose you. I can't-- I've lost enough already, don't make me lose you too."

"I do the impossible, Mr Iceman. You're not gonna lose me."

Tom prayed. For the second time in his life. He begged them to bring his husband home.

Mav was down.

Tom felt the world spin and shrink around him. Not his husband.

Rooster was down.

Tom felt like he was going to die. Not him too, oh God, not him.

They were back. They were airborne again. A miracle, Cyclone muttered.

Tom knew that miracle really well, and it had golden wings, large enough to shield them.

He promised. He promised, amd they were his pilots. Heavens, he could swear he almost saw a golden shine.

Jake flew like him. Tom realized the.moment he took off and killed the enemy aircraft, emerging from the smoke. It was I'm the mathematical precision he took the shot. It was in the way he inclined his jet to return on the carrier.

But it wasn't everything.

Jake looked like him.

He took his helmet off and hopped down of the jet with a little jump, he rushed to Mav and Bradley. He didn't stophe picked Bradley up, the man gave a strangled squeak as Jake's arms wrapped around him, he held onto him when he spun him around twice, setting him back on the ground, kissing him like that was the last day on Earth. Or perhaps the first.

Tom could see Ron run up to Chris. He was his son down to the last bit.

Mav wrapped himself on him as Tom took out his phone, he closed his eyes, his nose against Tom's neck, he vagiely heard the soft sound of a call in waiting.

"Tommy?"

Mav looked up.

Jake looked back, his face finally detaching itself from Bradley's.

"Hey, Chris, darling... I'm taking our boys home."

Mav saw Chris break in a tearful smile.

"I never doubted you Tommy. Not one time."

au in which Tom wins a bet against Sarah and gets to choose the second name for their second child, but promises to tell her just after the baby is born because he has a couple of idea but wants to see their face before.

Then the baby is between his arms, barley two hours old, and Tom smiles when he announces the second name is going to be Mitchell to a crowd of two: Sarah and Slider.

Jacob Mitchell Kazansky smiles at his mom while his uncle looks at his father like he completely lost it. And maybe he has.

(Somewhere in the Balkans, Pete Mitchell smiles even if he doesn't know why.)

(It takes Sarah and Maverick, a funeral and an absence of a person nobody will ever fill, to realise the weight of that name. Of a kid that now goes around as Mitchell Kazansky because he's a teenager and hates his first name.

He makes people call him Mitch, has his mother's hair, and his father's eyes. And, more than once, when Pete gets to pick him up from school, people ask him if he's the father.)

Hey, I don't think anyone has asked you about Jane <3 Equius and I'm going crazy I want to know why (with sincere curiosity and thanks for answering in advance)

The primary reason is because 3/4 of the Alpha kids are introduced with "by the way, here's the dead troll you're supposed to date." Roxy goes on about how much she fucking LOVES wizards, and she writes a fanfic where she describes an evil arrogant despotic slytherin harry potter as incredibly hot, and she has a crush on an eccentric hipster prince... (and on Eridan's side, he's tried getting in red with a bubbly pink girl and a cat-themed rogue, and roxy is a bubbly pink cat-themed rogue...)

Jake is introduced with a small digression where he yammers about all the "cerulean babes" he's obsessed with, and in specific, neytiri from avatar, wishing he could've been the one to "overcome his paralysis on an alien adventure planet to become her boyfriend". Basically, he wishes he'd been in tavros's place while vriska was crushing on him. He's also immediately attracted to aranea, a dead ringer for vriska. vriska also pursued red with john and tavros, the former of which shares a lot of genetic similarities with jake, the latter of which is also a page and also shares a lot of personality similarities, and she also has a thing for nic cage, whose rugged adventury-ness (but also cringeness) echoes jake

jane is thus introduced with a wall of "cobalt beefcakes," with ron swanson being her ideal man. she's also constantly described as a "tightass" by her friends, correcting their grammar and being initially reluctant to swear, and catches a lot of 100%'s, not just from hal. equius's primary flushcrush was aradia, who was also a maid, and whom equius's attraction - as he describes - was primarily based on the fact that she was so dignified, if only she wasn't of such low caste - !

We also see with tiaratop!jane that at her worst, she's incredibly dominant and controlling, treating jake as an object and breeding stud. equius is a massive sub and he would be so down bad for this. she's technically the condy's heiress, so of incredibly high status; shes dignified in ways reminiscent of aradia; and to top it all off, she's domineering and bossy and has a part of her that wants a partner that can shut up and look pretty and do whatever she says.

this is all said with the MAJOR CAVEAT that none of these romances work without all the characters experiencing some pretty major character development - eridan as we last saw him is too volatile and dangerous for roxy, vriska as we last saw her is the same way, and i'm pretty sure jane would be fairly :/ about an equius as we last saw him. but an eridan who has his shit together and is actively crusading for the powers of good while still being an evil harry potter wizard would sweep roxy right off her feet; a vriska who's come to realize she doesn't need to be so switched on and dangerous all the time would get along well with jake, since her specific brand of "yeah 8itch let's go adventuring" meshes well with his; equius who's not a weird casteist anymore and has some prudence about his fetishes would basically be jane's ideal ron swanson? gruff, masculine, a cobalt beefcake, not really wanting to engage with everyone's dumb horseplay, except that he'd do anything jane tells him to do and she's into that tbh

like unfortunatelyyyyy i think they'd work well together & i think aradia would be so damn relieved about it

In 1973, he starred as Harry Tenafly, the title character in Tenafly, a short-lived detective series about a police officer turned private detective who relied on his wits and hard work rather than guns and fistfights. As the star of that show, he is (along with Susan Saint James of McMillan and Wife) one of the last surviving actors to have starred as a title character from a series featured on the 1970s' NBC Mystery Movie. McEachin also appeared occasionally as Lieutenant Ron Crockett on Emergency!. In 1979, he played the role of a jaded ex-marine high school baseball coach in an episode ("Out at Home") of The White Shadow.

While continuing to guest star in many television series and appearing in several feature-length films, McEachin landed his most memorable role, that of Police Lieutenant Brock in the 1986 television movie Perry Mason: The Case of the Notorious Nun. Welcome to the final chapter of ‘Love is a Losing Game”! Before I release the grand conclusion, I wanted to share the ideas and the inspiration behind a venture that made me feel like I was back in my Wattpad era.

When I first got the idea for this series, I had just finished watching the second season of Bosch: Legacy on Amazon Prime. I’ve loved cop shows since I was a kid and Bosch is as good as it gets. I also found myself drawn in to one character in particular: Detective Kevin Long, portrayed by former Days of our Lives actor Guy Wilson (who also recently subbed in for Jonathan Jackson on General Hospital). I admit, there was nothing redeemable about that character whatsoever, but his sad eyes and chest of tattoos captivated me. It got me thinking, since there was little background insight given to Kevin Long as a character, what if he wasn’t a bad guy at all? (Delusional, I know. He was so far past saving) What if he was desperate to protect the people that he loved? When I went back and started rewatching Bosch from the beginning, all the layers came together, and suddenly I had created so much lore going back to the very beginning, and I didn’t know what to do with it.

I was gasping to write fanfiction. A full bodied series, something that I haven’t done since my Wattpad days. I had all these thoughts and plot points, and they were consuming me. But I knew that if I wrote it for Bosch, nobody would read it. I’d call it a dead fandom, but that implied there was a fandom to begin with outside of sub reddits. and then I had another idea.

What if I kept the storyline the same, but changed the fandom, drawing inspiration from Bosch but creating something bigger? And so Love Is A Losing Game was born. Kevin Long became Jake Seresin, and Titus Welliver's maverick devil-may care detective Harry Bosch became Pete Mitchell (same character different fonts! you can't go one episode without someone saying 'fucking bosch') Jerry Edgar became Tom Kazansky, and lawyer Honey Chandler became Penny Benjamin. I didn’t originally want to make Bradley the evil Don Ellis (who I once saw described as 'evil James Hetfield'), but I was running out of characters to sub, and something about the power cop duo of Jake and Bradley spoke to me (and Bradley and don have the same moustache). See my diagram below for who plays who:

Included but not pictures is Mickey Garcia as Detective Rondell Pierce, Javy Machado as Officer George Irving and Ron Kerner as Detective Santiago “Jimmy” Robertson.

(Early chapter readers may note that before proofreading, some chapters had errors where I had typed so quickly, my brain moving a mile a minute that I wouldn’t realize I’d typed in the names of the Bosch character I used for inspiration instead of the character it was supposed to be. I’d be embarrassed every time, but at the end of the day I only garnered like 20 readers and just hoped they wouldn’t notice)

Fun fact about Bosch! Honey Chandler is played by Mimi Rogers, who was married to Tom Cruise before he met Nicole Kidman! Other stars include the late Lance Reddick, Matthew Lillard, C Thomas Howell and Anthony Michael Hall. Maggie Q is also set to star as Renee Ballard in the new season, as well as a spinoff about Ballard as a character.

Jessica’s story is so meaningful to me because it’s about growing from your mistakes and paying it forward. She had rough teen years, which she’s carried with her for a long time. In the end, it’s realizing she can still be redeemed, she can still be loved for who she is that allows her to move on. I didn't want her story to be seen as another girl who married the wrong man. I wanted her story to be about how far we will go to protect the people that we love.

To end it all off, here are some fun facts about Jessie and Jake, or as they were originally in my head, Jessie and Kevin:

The first night that Jessie and Jake sleep together, they go to see an Oasis cover band called Cigarettes and Alcohol

Jessie and Jake were originally going to take the detectives exam together, but Jessie chickened out which resulted in Jake getting promoted to vice as a detective before Jessie tested

Jessie had a heart attack while working on the murder of a civil rights lawyer, caving under pressure from her past, her crazy boss and the high profile nature of the case

Jessie and Pete/Harry go to Vegas together to investigate the mob related murder of a porn director, and that's when she first starts to open up to him about her past (after he announces that he has the only copy of her juvenile file)

She cried the first time she had to interview a murder suspect (who later turned out to be an undercover FBI agent)

Jake/Kevin was on his college rowing team

At the beginning of what would have been season 4, Jessie and Jake go to see the Killers in concert, and Jake gets so drunk that Jessie drives the Charger home (Jake is a sleepy drunk, and spends most of the next day asleep as well)

Their honeymoon was a two week cruise in Alaska. Her favourite port was Anchorage

Their wedding song was Wonderwall by Oasis

Jessie doesn't necessarily let herself get pushed around, per say, by Pete but she wants to be where the action is after Vegas so when Pete says 'hey we're tracking a murder suspect to a deserted forest island, dress warm and come with me' she doesn't exactly say no

Jessie cried the first time that she had sex with Jake. She was so overwhelmed (in a good way!) at the care and love he handled her with because she didn't believe that anybody would ever love her enough to be gentle with her and cherish her

While in Vegas, Pete's ex-wife (who's a professional poker player) got Jessie tickets to see Velvet Revolver at the Bellagio. In the aftermath of that trip, everybody in the department thought she was sleeping with Pete, even though that was the furthest thing from the truth

Jessie's first concert was Bon Jovi when she was fourteen. Jake/Kevin's was Nickelback. Their first *real* concert together (so not the cover band) was Greta Van Fleet

Jake is a menace on the road. He breaks speed limits left right and center and if anybody questions/honks at him he just turns the mini siren in the Charger on and pretends he's responding to an urgent call (obviously for Jessie's sake that changed after their accident, and then again when Rosie was born)

Neither of them are very kinky people. Jake goes to work and solicits prostitutes most days, and generally feels pretty grody and nasty afterwards, especially with some of the things he's seen in the line of duty. The same goes for Jessica, who quite literally sees the worst of humanity. She considers Jake to be her safe place, and her favorite position is when Jake's chest is pressed against her back, he's gently kissing the side of her head, and his thrusts are slow and deep.

Call him 'Detective" and you will have Jake Seresin wrapped around your little finger. He will literally do anything you want

Jake thinks he's a handy man but isn't. It's better to hire professionals (or call Jessie's dad) when something needs doing

Jessie rarely ever takes her car in for service. Most smaller things she can do herself, and she finds doing the repairs soothing. She once replaced a broken headlight on a stakeout to keep herself busy

Jake/Kevin has two older sisters, Jessie is an eldest daughter

Spoilers for Fionna & Cake episode 8 below!

All evidence points to the world in episode 8 being dead because The Lich successfully made his wish to Prismo.

The "BRB" note from Finn in the treehouse, the fact that The Lich is wearing Billy's skin, and most damning of all: At the very end of the Ice King video tape, there's a single frame where the Ice King becomes a skeleton.

The way it happens is also very reminiscent of Prismo's powers. When Prismo changes things, there's no puff of smoke or crackle of energy. It just happens.

It would seem that The Lich wished for all life to end, and all living things simply died instantaneously. And for whatever reason, Finn and Jake weren't able to stop him.

So, yeah. Pretty morbid.

So for those keeping score, Roxy and Eridan, Jane and Equius (moment of silence), and Jake and Vriska. It's further proven by how stunningly hot he finds Aranea, who is a dead ringer for Vriska, and further supported by the fact that Jake is very much Vriska's type - she has a weird red, vascillatory thing for Tavros, and briefly dates John. Tavros is a Page, and John shares many genetic personality similarities with Jake, his ecto-grandpa. Honestly, if I were to distill down Vriska's taste in guys into one single person, it would just be Jake.

And yeah, I know that he and Vriska basically have nothing going on between them post-retcon, but I only consider everything after Game Over to be soft canon anyway, since by that point it's clear that Hussie has no intention of finishing Homestuck the way it was originally intended to end (there are way too many dangling plot threads, many of the choices - especially revolving around Vriska - seem genuinely aimed to make as much of the fandom upset as possible, and the tone and themes swerve wildly from their original trajectories in a way that feels rushed and incongruous). Pre-Retcon, the comic is gunning HARD for red Vriska/Jake endgame, and I put more weight on that than post-retcon's weird personality-regressed Vriska.

So I am specifically talking about post-character-development Vriska and Jake - Vriska who's had her feelings jams with John, proper apology and reconciliation with Aradia, Sollux, and Tavros, and is in a stable moirallegiance - Vriska who no longer feels the need to be such a massive bitch all the time and isn't trying to solo the game and steal the spotlight. Vriska at her best would probably be really healthy for him - Jake clearly enjoys a challenge much more than Tavros (though not enough to work well with Dirk), and Vriska clearly has a thing for goofy little failboys. It's not gay but not everything can be a W for us fujos, sadly.

As much as I love Roos, I can't get over how protective Jav is if Jake. Like!!! He gets all serious when the jokes takes a serious turns, and holds back Roos before he cam jump at him.

So--! Married. Jake's dads know, so does javys mom and sister. Hell, they secretly had bets on who would make the first move and everything, javy is basically family since forever. But the daggers don't know (and okay, they both are very good at keeping secrets, Jake kept his whole family a secret ever since flight school!), they find out when one of them is hurt and the other just panics because fuck. Fuck close call how am I supposed to react there?? Sir? Mr compacflt how do you react to your admiral husband getting hurt Sir??? (Yeah, well, whoever of them it is, the answer never changes, and Tom never reacts well).

Could be random training/mission, could be the dagger training before bird strike, could be after Jake takes off as dagger spare but shit goes wrong...could be anything, but the daggers thought those two were just friends, close friends, and messing up with them about having a house together, and plans, and the rings too...

When Jake slammed out of his plane they all could only watch. Javy can’t believe he just had to watch Jake eject. He’s never seen Jake eject before.

Fuck.

“Mav what’s happening! Why did Jake just go out???”

“His plane wasn’t responding to any controls Coyote. He ejected. Everyone come back now. No arguments.”

Javy scans the sky for the med helicopter. “Mav where is med.” “still coming Coyote. Return back to base.”

Javy can’t leave him out there. What kind of husband would that make him. Oh fuck Jake’s dads. They’re on base today. Javy is going to have to tell them their son is dead.

“JAVY!”

He snaps out of it at Tom’s voice. “Sir?” “Oh thank god Javy. It’s fine. Jake will be fine. Come back down. You hear me son?”

Javy opens his mouth and closes it. “Sir…?” Tom sighs. “Kid your husband and my son will be fine. He’s resilient. Bounced back as much as Ron does. Come home.” Javy obeys, he trusts Tom with anything. If he says Jake is fine then he’ll be fine.

When Javy lands he falls out of the cockpit. Somehow Ron is there to catch him. He takes him all the way to the ground with his weight. “Jake?” Ron nods. “Hospital. He’s fine though.”

The daggers are all standing on the side watching this unfold. Tom makes his way over. “Hey kiddo? Ready to go see him?”

Javy shakes out another sob. He can’t help it. He can’t lose Jake.

They slowly make their way up to the med bay.

There’s Jake. His incredible husband Jake.

“Javy!” Javy blinks. Apparently Jake is awake. That’s a good sign. He’s got blood in his blond hair but otherwise a soft cast on his wrist looks to be the worst.

“Broke my nose again tata! That might get me close to beating Papa’s record!”

Tom laughs and sits next to the bed after shoving Javy into the other chair, “baby not something to be proud of.” Jake grins. “So you called me husband across the entire radio huh? Is that why my phone is blowing up?”

Javy blinks. Whoops. He rubs the back of his neck and doesn’t look Jake in the eyes. “Yeah. Sorry.”

Jake laughs. “Baby I can’t wait to hold your hand while being out. But you know the daggers are going to as so many questions.”

Ron kisses Jake’s head and brushes a hand across Tom’s shoulders. “We’re going back to our room. We’ll see you in the morning okay boys?” The two younger men nod, “good. Love you both.”

Phoenix and Rooster slip into the room a few minutes later. “How’s he doing?” Javy shrugs from where he’s holding Jake. “Fine. Nothing lasting. Got lucky.”

Rooster nods. “Canwe ask you something?” Javy sighs, he knew this would be coming.

“Are you two happy like this?”

Oh fuck Javy wasn’t expecting that.

“Extremely. Never been happier. I’ve spend so much time with him already I wouldn’t know how to live without him.” Phoe nods and pats a hand on Jake’s hair. Roo claps a hand on Javy’s shoulders. “For the record I’m very happy for you both.”

“Thanks I’m happy for us as well.”

When Jake wakes up he’s warm. Javy must be in bed with him. He starts to wiggle to break free but remembers his wrist and hip are fucked up. He slowly just starts petting Javy’s hair. It’s like having a puppy right there in front of him at all times.
