These Rites of Severance - Progress 2/?

I spent today on a couple of my antagonists.

The thing is, neither of them are really "antagonists" as far as "bad guys" go. They're more like "opposing forces" that go up against Jhana due to their circumstances.

One of them is the first major boss of the game, a monster of a sea serpent called the Anathema of the Abyss.

To understand this Anathema is to understand Jhana, which makes for an even stronger opening act, so I knew I needed to make this deep dive. Why did he become an Anathema? What happened, what went so wrong that he then affected Jhana's development? Did he wish to turn out this way? What did he dream of doing with his life, and what was he actually doing when he succumbed to this curse?

And hoo boy did I figure out a lot.

This is the kind of deep dive that I want to do for every part of this game. Nothing should be meaningless or filler, unless it's meant to be as comedic relief.

I'm going into the script now to draft some lines about shops, locations, and the environment of Irabu Harbor. And then maybe some story too, which should lead to the first dungeon of the game, Deeptide Shrine.

theyre somewhat posable (arms and legs) you can mostly just bend em (pongorma is very hard to pose however due to his thick limbs)

dedusmulns sword is removable :) (it has a pin so that you can take it off and put it back on easily)

pongorma has hidden top surgery scars under all that fur!

somsnosas cloak is also somewhat removable but i wouldnt try to remove it (would be hard to take off and put on likely)

pongormas body is covered ENTIRELY in yarn which i pricked in manually 1 by 1 (or well i usually like pricked it so its like 2 by 1 idk how to exactly say it)(also it was very time consuming so ill likely never do it again)

and also needle deathcount

dedusmuln: 0 but they caused me to prick myself sometimes (nothing major thankfullly)

The God of Crawling Eyes

Just in time for Halloween, I've added The God of Crawling Eyes to itch.io:

The God of Crawling Eyes was a game I made in the early 2010s for a game jam on rpgmaker.net.  The game took around 20-25 days to make, mostly because of its short play time and minimalist aesthetic.  

I kind of made it just as a segue into the RPG Maker community, as I was going to upload A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky and thought I could get more eyes on the project if I won the game jam.  I don't think I won, but I did get a lot of eyes on this one--I was completely unaware at the time of the huge RPG Maker horror scene and the many people who were ravenous for games that fit that mold.  It ended up being my most-downloaded game on rpgmaker.net by far.

The story's about Max, a high school kid taking some experimental medication for his color blindness.  But, the medication is making him see...OtHeR tHiNgS...

Features:

-Genuine spooks! -Surprisingly good atmosphere for MIDI music tracks! -Adventure gamey, puzzley stuff--some of which isn't even that obtuse! -4 different endings! -Little secrets!

Stand Showcase #17: Travellin' Shoes

"Cold headed suit" This is TRAVELIN' SHOES, the Close-Range Speed Stand, and the 9th of the 18 Stands your main character can play!

Travellin' Shoes is the sole suit stand out of the 18 playable MC stands, and has the ability to utilise 7 different modes that each allows the user to "escape" a physical law for a brief 10 second period: Gravity (no longer linking the user to the ground), Entropy (Causing energy to build up inside the user), Resistance (Turning the user intangible), Refraction (Turning the user invisible), Friction (Allowing the user to move unrestrained by resistance), Inertia (Making the user an immovable object that stays still no matter what), and Time (Stopping everything, although the user cannot move, just think). Each of these abilities is immensely powerful on its own, let alone combined with the others, but the user must rely on being able to properly time which mode they can briefly access.

Travellin' Shoes' greatest gift to its user is "Mobility". Throughout the adventure, you will always be given an opportunity to be more mobile, whether it be through the ability to run away or get to a better location in story encounters, or to access certain locations of the map that only Travellin' Shoes-aided parkour can reach. In combat, each of its Modes is represented in a short but powerful buff, making control of timing which perfect one to use the centre of its gameplay.

So, after a long while, I've finally gotten back into the swing of things Currently I'm trying to redefine the style of the game while keeping it pretty yet at a manageable scale. Wish me luck!

Penance

Some scenes from Penance, a point and click adventure game set in medieval England.

'With the child King Henry III yet to solidify his power, rebel barons roam freely across the lands. Amidst the turmoil, the sons of Sir William Marshal grapple with their father's death whilst they attempt to govern their extensive holdings across England and Normandy. The fourth son, Walter Marshall, has returned from his self-imposed exile to find an earldom in disarray. He must aid his kin in bringing stability to the realm and in the process, Walter uncovers sinister forces that plague the kingdom. '

Did quite a bit of work today on these maps. The puzzles are good, the "bosses" are decently balanced I think. Added in more items and gear. Need to do some slight changes to the RNG with the coins. Adding in a few other RNG systems for better gear and stuff.

Need to still make a few more maps, need to fix a few tiles too as well as add/make a few more for some finally things.

Hoping to get this finished soon. Play-testing soon.

These Rites of Severance - Progress 1/?

Good progress today!

Thank goodness I discovered Scrivener's screenwriting template. It's been helping me keep track of my scenes as I rewrite the opening act, and I'm pretty sure it'll continue helping as I progress through the story.

I also scavenged through my audio files and DLC content for VX Ace and grabbed music I'm thinking of using as BGM. I write scenes and environment better when I have the proper music on repeat. The index cards in Scrivener let me note what tracks I listened to, so I don't have to break up the flow of the narrative. Really appreciate that.

Arranging tracks into a playlist as well!

So far, I've written the opening scene, the tutorial battle, and the protagonist's "call to action." Balancing her narration with dialogue is going to be difficult but well worth the effort.

Specific Changes to Note:

Character Names: "Jerdani Maxwell" is now "Jhana Rizan." Her father "Rodrick" is now "Rhias," and the "Wayward" are now called "Anathema."

Location Name: "Tidely Village" is now "Irabu Harbor." The land itself is no longer "Rios," but "Uru," its capital city "Urugami" rather than "Miyako."

Story Flow. The dialogue and narration flow a lot more naturally, rather than reading like A Video Game. At least, that's the goal.

''Corpse Party" is a media franchise initially released as a video game made on an early version of what is now known as 'rpg maker' in 1996.

This franchise is huge in general Getting many remakes,sequels and spinoffs. They include but are not limited to(take a shot each time you come across the words 'corpse party'):

-a mobile remake of the game called 'corpse party:new chapter" was released in 2006 although it remained incomplete

-A remake and port of the original 1996 version called "Corpse Party:Blood Covered" came out in 2008

-"Corpse Party:Blood covered..Repeated fear" was released for the PSP in 2010 and IOS in 2012. A port of for the 3ds came out in 2015

-The PSP game had a sequel called "Corpse Party:Book of shadows" which itself had a sequel

-Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash was released for the PSP in Japan on 2012

-Various manga series,an OVA series,a themepark attraction and 2 live action movies

The original plot of the game surrounds a group of highschool students who are sharing ghost stories when an earthquake transports them to an desolate school in an alternate universe.The students try to make it out of the school while dealing with the ghosts of other students who were trapped there.

(This is probably one of the most capitalized on videogame titles I've ever looked into)
