People ship this because they like angsty, nasty ships. (And I mean that in the most genuine way possible.) They like it ROUGH around the edges. Bully x Bullied trope isn't one of the most common tropes, but it still exists.

And one could argue that Rusty's bullying BACK to Greaseball (in the original production) makes them rivals? Like Rusty is ALLOWING Greaseball to bully him because he knows he can stand up for himself? Idk.

In most of the productions, Rusty is just straight-up bullied by the diesel gang. One could find this... attractive? And I get it. If you're into that, you're into that. (And I know you know MY stance on this, Sileagen.) If someone thinks that the Bully x Bullied trope is kinda hot... it's kinda hot. That's their deal.

And I gotta be honest... I have a soft spot for RustBall. It's a very strange ship for sure... but it kinda reminds me of the main character and the main villain in Karate Kid? Like... they hate each other... but they also mad zesty...

Idk. This one is complicated.

firstly, GB and his gang literally beat up rusty in some productions. they are MEAN, right!!!!!?? thats no way to treat a potential mate!!!! GB n rusty are RIVALs!!!!! they hate eachother! right?? so like i dunno how they could go together? theres no sign of any forgiveness at the end of the show!

I would get it if rusty was somewhat forgiving of GB by the end of the show, but he wasn't, right.??

Rustball week will indeed be returning!

There is one caveat: It's returning next year, in 2026.

I have a lot of things going on for the rest of this year, and I would like to put much more effort into this event than I did the first time it ran.

So, it is returning, but not for a little while.

I know a lot more people enjoy Rustball these days, and I want to give us all that content we crave :)

lesbian dinah and lesbian greaseball is so important to me, and so is their relationship development

in my heart GB was Dinah’s gay awakening a lil bit and I end up writing that into a lot of my fics and aus because I think it’s adorable

Like Dinah’s maybe dated a couple guys, she wasn’t that interested in them. Then GB rolls into the station one day and she’s beside herself internally. She’s never felt like this about anyone before and it’s so intense.

GB knows she’s gay, her sexuality might be the one thing she’s really genuinely secure in, so she’s a little unsure of getting with someone just figuring themselves out like Dinah is.

They give it a shot though, and they’re like two puzzle pieces finally slotting together. Sure they have their moments, but they love each other deeply and they work it out.

To me what occurs in canon is like, super out of the ordinary for their relationship, and of course this is my headcanon. Dinah consistently seems shocked by Greaseball’s rejections of her affection, implying that doesn’t usually happen.

I think both of them are very insecure, and derive their security from different things. GB’s security comes from her champion status. She believes that if she isn’t the champion, she will lose everything, Dinah included. Dinah’s security comes from her relationship, why is why she absolutely crashes out when left in the dust. Her support and security has left her.

They both have to find their strength and security in other things before they can fully heal, because before there wasn’t a threat pulling them apart.

Dinah finds support in Belle and Tassita, and later, security in herself. She exerts her own autonomy in deciding she doesn’t want to race with Electra anymore, she decides she is going to forgive Greaseball, and that’s because she finally trusts herself.

Greaseball on the other hand, has to learn that she can rely on others. Her champion title is lost, but Dinah stays by her side, forgives her, and loves her anyway, and that allows her to find a new source of security. She is enough, without all of the glamour of being a champion.

Idk if Bochum GB still has it, but in the past, Greaseball's have worn chains with a G on them.

GB gave it to Rusty when they got together.

It was a big deal to Rusty since Greaseball took a while to admit he liked him and took even longer to say, "I love you."

Trainfolk don't really do wedding rings, but giving your partner smth of yours to wear is generally seen as sealing the deal and confirming that you're a couple.

In other words, you're kinda staking your claim - fair enough, honestly, because half of the nationals were putting moves on Rusty (Namely Ruhrgold and Turnov-).

But, there's a matter of protection. Not every diesel in the yard is a member of the gang. Therefore, not all of them stopped picking on Rusty. That chain is keeping a lot of further bullying at bay, they're scared to invoke Greaseball's anger (BAD idea).

Also Greaseball is a bit possessive hehe
