Jonas Spahr is such a fascinatingly present-yet-detached man. He correctly observes how Phineas needs to improve to meet the Trust mold, and yet when he is telling Phineas that if he doesn't improve these things he'll be fired, he's oddly disconnected from how grave a reality this is for Phineas. He even pulls the punch on the feedback, calling the list of issues "just a FEW - just a COUPLE - little things" (this is not good boss behavior btw, regardless of whether Jonas was handed down this list from his superiors). He seems to be genuinely rooting for Phineas and pointedly encourages him but again through this hazy lens of not truly acknowledging the situation or what Phineas is truly capable of (aka he is not going to suddenly acquire high charisma, Jonas...). He both sees Phineas clearly enough to evaluate him and to like him and yet is also completely ignorant of him and his lot, either incidentally or on purpose - probably both.

Then later when seeing Imelda, Jonas once again doesn't seem to be operating with the true understanding that this mission is going to punitively define Phineas's future and is instead blithely suggesting dinner party catch-ups for them. Everything is pleasant and fine! He's fluent in the oblique way Imelda talks, too, and it's clearer the further we go that his mild-mannered attitude has no bearing on the actual content he is dealing with. But it's not a front! Or at least, it's a front that he's internalized. It seems this is actually how Jonas is. Like if he actually looks the world in the eye it's going to eat him. (Is that a blinder joke?)

Anyway:

Highly accomplished Consector & Trust figurehead. Polite and easygoing social schmoozer. Double-wielder of showmanship and insecurity. Cognitively dissonant space cadet. Mediocre boss. Jonas Spahr.
