ed is absolutely panicking in 2x7 bc he’s seeing stede having the time of his life being a famous pirate and he’s genuinely happy for stede but also he wants out of this life and he’s afraid stede will choose piracy over him and so he’s leaving first before stede can leave him again, all of which is bc deep down ed still thinks he’s unlovable and he’s scared to get hurt by stede again and he’s handling everything very badly

all that being said

the fact that ed has already decided that he can’t choose piracy for stede’s sake is so important to me

piracy was slowly killing ed long before stede entered the picture. and now that ed’s decided that he wants warmth and food and orgasms and he wants to live he’s not going to force himself to do a job that makes him fucking miserable. he still might not think he’s worth love and not worth choosing, but he’s at least moved past thinking he deserves to die. he’s past making himself so miserable that he wants to die. ed still has a lot of work to do but he’s making good progress and i’m proud of him.

sadly the relationship dynamic between zheng and jim needs to be pretty much invented from scratch but the chemistry IS 100% there in canon despite the studio butchering the polycule arc and i say this bc when jim was setting up a date for zheng and olu they told her “olu is rlly into you but jsyk me and him are a package deal” and zheng (who as far as we know was pretty much meeting jim for the first time) looked at them and said “hmmm not a dealbreaker”

oh anon this is actually one of my favorite fics in the entire fandom (altho i think my tags made it sound way kinkier than it is lolll the orgasm denial is just part of the mechanics of the time loop. and the specific scene i was talking abt is pretty brief). really really good fic, lots of ed and stede miscommunicating due to insecurities and then eventually Talking It Through real real good. also some incredibly funny scenes. and incredibly sexy scenes. and incredibly good angst. man this fic really has it all

i appreciate this episode having the reveals of several of the townsfolk be part of the society! it would have been easy enough to have the whole group be shadowy nameless people but they really stood their ground and said "no toby determined is a cult member and you're going to deal with that"

and the woodpecker guy, who has way more appearances across the series than you'd think
