i was in the riot server. aspen sent the playlist of personalized letters from characters available to patrons at the 25 dollar tier into a channel with people who were not at that tier.

the youtube playlist of audio clips individually addressed to patrons who had to pay $25 to get one (a reward that no longer exists)? like, aspen shared the links to a bunch of videos saying "hi luann G, thanks for supporting the show!"? that's the caliber of Content Theft we're talking about?

that playlist isn't privated. you don't even have to be a patron to "leak" that. is it content theft for someone to share their personalized letter FOR THEM that they paid for WITH THEIR MONEY from that podcast they like with their mom? if they didn't have the internet literacy to redact the playlist tag from the URL when they did that, should we "rat them out" to harlan so he can share their name and where to find them to 4k discord users and 1k patrons? (which is still not appropriate regardless of what aspen did btw, that was sort of my point)

you can say there is a privacy issue with sharing the letters of others, but that's on harlan for not asking permission to put all those letters on a playlist accessible to everyone who has the link. if this is a privacy issue it's already a violation for OTHER PATRONS to receive access to the playlist with those letters.

the thing you will find if you take the time to actually read these conversations is that literally no one is defending the practice of leaking patreon content. we COULD talk about piracy being meaningless outside the context of lost revenue (as if HG didnt lose vastly more revenue cutting riot off), but that isn't what we've been saying.

what this conversation has ACTUALLY been about is how completely inappropriate it is to single out two people, one of whom did not do what he accused them of, and make sure every person on the discord AND the patreon knew their names and where to find them. he did not have so much as a conversation with either of them, and when others reached out to say "that puts those people at risk" or even 'aspen literally did not do that' he dismissed them.

the patreon has over 1k subs and the discord has over 4k people. you don't have to condone content theft to see this is irresponsible and cruel from someone with a platform that size. and even if you approve of punitive justice (in which case, good afternoon, officer) there's a thing called proportionality. leaking to a server of like 20 people (or, and i cant emphasize this enough, NOT DOING THAT) doesn't warrant this. and again: he never spoke to these people to see if he could address this in a way that didnt put them in danger of harassment or worse. that's what this conversation is about.

if you have a stupid question in a group setting, it's likely you're not the only one, and others might be so concerned about sounding stupid that they won't ask it. please ask the stupid question!! chances are the thing that makes it stupid is that it's about something super basic, and it's extra important that you and others understand the super basic shit.

Some people say that there are no stupid questions, which is blatantly false. Of course there are stupid questions, and if you have one, you had better ask it, before you go and do make a stupider mistake. Stupid questions are more important than intelligent ones. I’m willing to bet more people die because of stupid mistakes than because of intelligent ones.

hmm. well i don't love this person's tone of condescension, because i DO think it could be clearer. twitter doesnt let me in anymore but my friends reported that the argument seems to be that she would need her employee ID to file a report to HR?

that's a pretty silly argument because 1 it presumes an ID is necessary for that 2 it presumes she doesnt have her ID number memorized, which is something i do for anything from employee IDs to medical numbers to my goddamn library card, 3 im pretty sure there would be a way to get a new employee ID if you lose yours rather than just never being able to do anything in the company ever again

but most importantly 4, which is that the company would already be dissolved!! curly told her so himself!! by the time she was able to report to HR there would be no HR to report to!

you get a steam achievement for finding the IDs and hers is in the first scene somewhere youre going to be rifling around anyway. it's a good place to put it if you want to establish that this is a scavenger hunt you can go on. maybe there is significance to choosing anya but i don't think this is what it is.

Are you proposing something like in Book 7 where there's a copy of Jamil who's obviously acting strangely and not like him at all, or there's a perfect copy of him that's impossible to differentiate from the real deal... 🤔

The first case is too easy (but imagine Dream!Jamil trying to be friendly with Mayu and real Jamil pulls her back in annoyance 😈), the second case however- via the ✨power of love✨ she can probably do something that involves a memory only they share or something that would elicit a unique reaction from the real Jamil. For example, hug him and see how he reacts: if he returns it he's clearly fake, if he freezes and goes what are you doing and acts terribly inconvenienced, it's probably the real one 🙂‍↕️

In canon, a kwami's power must be used through a human wielding a miraculous, otherwise it'll have unforeseen consequences. So, in your AU, does Imago stealing Marinette's agonies cause any sort of trouble?

honestly the biggest unforeseen consequence is that this dude is around and being himself

no but for real, there should be a hypermassive consequence for a kwami unfettered peeking their head in, but there's not because of shit we'll get into later.

just consider it like this for the time being: now that Marinette is a sage and is capable of communing with the gods, she as a living being can be used as that intermediate conduit for power instead of the miraculous gems. If it was Tikki, for example, using her power raw with sage!Marinette, Mari would be able to access the power of creation or be swayed by it - however, it would put a massive strain on her, as she's not a miraculous but still capable of acting as that pipeline.

The reason Marinette has no ill effects from Imago, however, is because Imago is playing with a catch 22. Their purpose was to take agony away from Marinette, so even the exhaustion of accessing the unfettered power of a god was something he stole from her, so it seems like zero consequences have been had. In truth Imago is now SO tired holy moly and they DO NOT LIKE IT LMAO

Of course! She spends lots of time with both Stone and Metal, they both love to carry her around underwater when her legs are on! (she can still spend long stints of time underwater with no issues) When she wants to swim by herself, she has a new mecha tail she can use that she designed herself based on Robotnik's old designs!

this also reflects a difference in values! the boomers acknowledge the inconvenience of the action they're being thanked for and say the other is welcome to this inconvenience. meanwhile the millennial finds it more polite to assert that there was no inconvenience at all.

this is a lot of why younger folks are averse to phone calls, besides them being really scary. a phone call demands the other person put everything else down at a specific time and devote time to you. texts and emails can be responded to at one's leisure.

younger folks are more conscious of causing inconvenience to others and striving to respect their time. "no problem" sounds dismissive to a boomer's ears, disregarding the interaction as not a big deal rather than just accepting the dang gratitude. but it's actually intended as a reassurance: it wasn't a big deal to me, i didn't mind doing it for you. it's no bother, don't even worry about it.

Speaking of linguistics, there’s one particular linguistic tick that I think clearly separates Baby Boomers from Millennials: how we reply when someone says “thank you.”

You almost never hear a Millennial say “you’re welcome.” At least not when someone thanks them. It just isn’t done. Not because Millenials are ingrates lacking all manners, but because the polite response is “No problem.” Millennials only use “you’re welcome” sarcastically when they haven’t been thanked or when something has been taken from/done to them without their consent. It’s a phrase that’s used to point out someone else’s rudeness. A Millenial would typically be fairly uncomfortable saying “you’re welcome” as an acknowledgement of genuine thanks because the phrase is only ever used disengenuously.

Baby Boomers, however, get really miffed if someone says “no problem” in response to being thanked. From their perspective, saying “no problem” means that whatever they’re thanking someone for was in fact a problem, but the other person did it anyway as a personal favor. To them “You’re welcome” is the standard polite response.

“You’re welcome” means to Millennials what “no problem” means to Baby Boomers, and vice versa.The two phrases have converse meanings to the different age sets. I’m not sure exactly where this line gets drawn, but it’s somewhere in the middle of Gen X. This is a real pain in the ass if you work in customer service because everyone thinks that everyone else is being rude when they’re really being polite in their own language.
