Hermione can feel the mark buzzing, pulsing, beating in time with the veins at her temples. She can sense its malevolence feeding off of her resentment, looping back around and fueling her anger in turn, but doesn't even try to differentiate between her own anger and the negative emotions ebbing out of the curse itself. Hermione is fully aware that her face has twisted into a vicious, hateful sneer; she can see how surprised Bellatrix is to see such an expression on her. The hatred from the mark pours into her, fills her veins, demands to be spoken aloud.

"Whatever those consequences were," Hermione whispers with enough open malice to power a sanity-shattering Crucio if she'd wanted to cast one, "they weren't enough."

Super Brain Dead as The Golden Trio

Danny was Harry, Kon was Ron, and Tim was Hermione

Danny remembered being Harry when he died. As the portal opened and he glimpsed Sam’s terrified face, he remembered his own terror as he saw Sirius fall through the veil. He had one moment of grief, of hating that he did this to another one of his loved ones…. until he came out.

He didn’t talk about his first life. It wasn’t important (and it hurt too much.) He continued to balance Sam and Tucker (who made him ache for Ron and Hermione), continued to fight/be bullied by Dash (who was like a mixture of Draco and Dudley before they had both grown up), and started fighting ghosts. (He could never catch a break, could he?)

(He never told anyone about how the symbol of the deathly hallows appeared on his body. It constantly shifted, hiding from everyone but him, but he spent nights tracing it. (It helped him believe his memories were real.))

Kon remembered being Ron not long after joining Young Justice. His memories came slowly, through dreams and Deja vu and meditation. (In the beginning, he thought it was Lex’s idea of a sick joke. It was only after the Deathly Hallows tattoo showed up that he fully accepted his past.)

He didn’t talk about it, but it helped a lot. As Kon, he relied on the memories of the anger management classes Hermione had him go to. He used memories of Dumbledore’s Army to help him with civilians. (And if his bed was too empty at night? If he looked over to ask Hermione a question only to remember she wasn’t there? If he looked for Harry for a split second whenever there was trouble before remembering he was alone? Well, that was for him to bury deep into his heart.)

(The symbol of the deathly hallows appeared on his wrist. It wasn’t hard to cover, but he noticed how much stronger that hand felt. Even when he was bound in Kryptonite, the mark burned like he was invincible.)

Tim always remembered being Hermione. (Oh, the irony. In both lives, they grew up alone, too smart for their age and with parents who forgot about them. (At least the Granger’s had actually cared once.)

He wrote about his/her old life. Never for long, and never in a place that could be found by others, but it made Tim feel sane. (It made it easier not to cry. It made it easier not to laugh hysterically when they once again fought against brainwashed masses. It made it easier to differentiate between The Joker and Bellatrix. It made it easier not to see a horrible mix of Dumbledore and Voldemort in Ra’s Al Ghul.)

(The deathly hallows symbol was basically his birthmark. Sometimes, when he ran his hand over it, he felt like he could almost hear the voice of those he lost. (He never heard Harry or Ron’s voice. He tried not to let that affect him.))

None of them realized it, but the reason they were alive again was because of the hallows. The three of the hallows made them the three masters of death, a trio meant to govern deaths and Death.

Death felt it when the first of his masters took up their role, and decided to visit an old friend.

After all, Clockwork was sure to help their new king reunite with his soulmates.

due to the lack of major female characters i propose we all start treating the black sisters the way we treat regulus black, barty crouch jr, and evan rosier. and i realize to do that we need queer ships so heres what im proposing

bellatrix/emmeline vance- okay i know quillkiller is already a semi popular wlw ship for bella BUT i think bella and emmeline would be really good and healthier. like emmeline is so calm, it perfectly offsets bellas... less sane moments

andromeda/sybill trelawney- this one i will admit i am most unsure about, mostly bc i wouldnt mind keeping andy/ted. bUT like i do kinda think andy would be a little enamored by the way that sybill is such a free spirit (bc andy feels so stifled by her family, it would be incredible to see some else who is so free) and i think andy could be the serious to balance the crazy of trelawney. that being said i also was considering andy/alice longbottom (commonly headcanoned alice longbottom nee fortescue) and i would love if somebody else could come up with an explanation/argument for that pair

narcissa/aurora sinistra- OKAY do you guys remember astronomy class? sinistra was the teacher for that if you forgot (and i dont blame you if you did bc i rlly went SEARCHING for women i could pair with this trio) but she ls mostly mentioned as giving out a lot of homework but i think that hard working, no nonsense attitude would likely draw narcissa in bc its something she and aurora would have in common (at first i wanted to pair narcissa with pandora, commonly headcanoned pandora rosier, but her mom is a rosier so ABSOLUTELY NOT)

My opinion about Harry Potter Ships (2/2)

Wolfstar (Sirius Black/Remus Lupin): Beautiful. Just beautiful. They're THE Marauders Era couple. 😆

Remadora (Remus Lupin/Nymphadora Tonks): I have to see the development in a canon couple to like it- and in the movie they were suddenly like "We're a couple now :D". So no, not my ship. 😕

Jilly (James Potter/Lily Evans): Why not. After all, they both did bad things. "But Severus also did bad things" Yeah, he did. But James bullying him was also bad. So was Lily laughing when his "best friend" was being sexually assaulted.

Snilly (Severus Snape/Lily Evans): Before their bond broke they were good friends so I'm okay with it. Although sometimes I think they both deserve someone else.

Sirily (Sirius Black/Lily Evans): I didn't know the existence of this ship until now- but you know- it's nice. I like it.

Regulily (Regulus Black/Lily Evans): Wouldn't they also be called something like Starflower? Even the name of the ship is nice.

Remily (Remus Lupin/Lily Evans): I will only say the ship name ✨Moonflower✨ is beautiful as well as the ship.

Belladolphus (Rodolphus Lestrange/Bellatrix Lestrange): Yes. they have to be together. Although I only like them if they're not toxic.

Quirrelmort (Tom Riddle | Voldemort/Quirinus Quirrell): I mean they could be a good couple if both of them (again) were sane enough to have a healthy relationship. Unless we're talking about AVPM- which would be a big YES.

Snarry (Severus Snape/Harry Potter): Nope. I see Severus as his father figure and nothing else.

Tomarry (Tom Riddle | Voldemort/Harry Potter): I headcanon them as platonic soulmates. Besides I ship Tom with Abraxas and Harry with Draco 🤣

Bellamione (Bellatrix Lestrange/Hermione Granger): For me they're like the previous two ships. They would just have a platonic relationship.

Analyzing Remus Lupin and N. Tonks

EDIT: I want to make it very clear that I love Lupin and Tonks. I always did, since "Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix" (the book) came out. I had a massive crush on Lupin back then (still have, to be honest! LOL) and I saw so much of myself in Tonks that I was really happy that they became a couple. But I do see a lot of flaw in them. I may have read the books too many times and cannot stop analyzing them (and I'm not the biggest fan of the way JKR developed some aspects of their relationship). Sorry. It's an hyperfixation. :/ Many people hate Lupin because he was willing to leave Tonks pregnant.

But here's the thing: He did it out of love for her and self-loathing. He really thought she and the baby were better without him. Hating on him because of it is a rather immature and shallow Interpretation of his character. He wasn't perfect - not a single character was - but he was definitely one of the best people in the whole series, despite all of his flaws (and boy, did he have flaws!). He just felt real.

When he tried to leave Tonks, they were in the middle of a war and almost ALL characters snapped and lost their minds. None of them were mentally sane then. And Lupin... He spent his whole life hurting and running away from people and feelings. He was always self-controlled because he wanted to tame his human form, since he couldn't tame his wolf form.

He had to deal with a war, the constant fear of death (his and his loved ones), the loss of his best friend, Sirius, and of his mentor who he saw as a second father, Dumbledore (that's the first time Harry sees him loose control), and with a love he thought he didn't deserve and he knew ir would bring harsh consequences on Tonks (and then the baby). He had a nervous brakedown. (I won't even mention the fact that he would have felt guilty for not being able to protect George from losing his ear)

You see how he was in that scene when he tries to leave Tonks?

"Lupin actually seized handfuls of his own hair; he looked quite deranged."

Yes, "deranged", that's the key word. He talks about himself in that scene not as a human being, but as a "creature" whose "kind don't usually breed".

He's totally deranged with guilt. Look at what he says:

"I made a grave mistake in marrying Tonks. I did it against my better judgemente and I have regretted it very much ever since."

"Don't you understand what I've done do my wife and my unborn child? (...) I've made her an outcast." "Even her own family is disgusted by our marriage..."

"How can I forgive myself, when I knowingly risk passing on my condition to an innocent child?"

"It will be better off, a hundred times so, without a father of whom it must always be ashamed!"

Besides, there are also things he didn't say, but we can see all over the 7th book:

• Voldemort shames Bellatrix for the fact that her own niece has married a werewolf and influences her to kill Tonks. After the Seven Potters, Tonks tells Remus that Bellatrix is targeting her as much as Harry and that she "tried very hard" to kill her.

• He's always looking miserable throughout the book, even when Tonks looks happy (which is actually weird, if I didn't know better, I would think she didn't care if he was miserable as long as she was with him.)

• We do know that he and Tonks got married only a few days after Dumbledore's death, when Tonks basically shamed Remus into being with her (everyone turned against him). Which was actually a bad timimg, since Remus was totally heartbroken over Dumbledore's death. It's the first time Harry sees him losing control, he collapses on a chair, takes his hands to his head and screams: "No!" He was in such a frail emotional state and everyone decided to gang up on him.

Molly, Arthur and even McGonnagal pressured Remus into being with Tonks... And we all know how he hates to disappoint people. He's the ultimate people pleaser.

• Tonks works for the Ministery... But we can see that she and Remus have to hide from Scrimgeour at Harry's birthday party. We can assume that Tonks lost her job because she married Remus.

• If we read his biography in the official Harry Potter website (old Pottermore), we can see that his parents were outcasts because of him. Everyone who was attached to a werewolf would be an outcast. Wouldn't Tonks and the baby be better off without living with a werewolf?

The thing is, Lupin was an emotional wreck in the last two books, mainly the last one (well, he had always been, being bitten as a child and losing all his friends at the same time). So, how can we blame anyone for anything they did when they weren't in their right mind?

There's no one single character in Harry Potter that has no flaws. Lupin and Tonks are not perfect either:

LUPIN

Good side: He's a really good person, kind, wise, witty, brave, resilient, always putting other's well-being above his. The scene where he learns about Dumbledore's death and loses his legendary self-control over it, but minutes after he'd comforting McGonagall and Hermione…. That always breaks my heart. He always has the right word at the right time to everyone, and people who actually knew him respected him a lot.

Bad side: Although he was really brave on battle, he was a coward in the way he acted with the people he loved. He had never had friends before Hogwarts, he was terrified of losing the ones he got, so he didn't actively stop them from being reckless idiots. Even when he grew up, be didn't have the guts to tell Dumbledore that Sirius was an animagus. That could have had cost Harry's life. And the fact that he needed friends so much that he even forgave Sirius for using him as a weapon against Snape says a lot about him. He was - and had always been - an emotional wreck. He needed lots of therapy before he could even think about being with anyone. But he let everyone bully him into being with Tonks, not just because he loved her - which he did - , but because he was emotionally distroyed (with all the pressure from the war, the missions among werewolves, the losses and from having to run away from a love that he knew would bring Tonks a terrible fate) and… yes, because he was a people pleaser and couldn't stand the ideia of everyone being against him.

TONKS

Good side: She's funny, brave, has a heart of gold, she has no prejudice in her and she loves unconditionally and fiercely.

Bad side: She didn't take a no for an answer - she was an only child, maybe we can assume that she was spoiled, although I hate that theory being an only child myself - and she let her love for Lupin become an obsession. She made the scene after Dumbledore's death all about them, even if she knew that Lupin was devastated at that time. And in the last book, she's always happy despite him being miserable. And in the end, she leaves her newborn baby with her mother and runs to a battlefield because she “couldn't stand not knowing” if Lupin was dead.

I don't think Tonks is analized enough. She's much more than the funny romantic woman most people see in her. People seem to forget about her (unless we're talking about those Wolfstar shippers who are always bashing on her and Remadora). She's much more interesting and complex than people give her credit for.

They both have flaws, but that doesn't make them bad people, does it?

“You’re sure this is them?” Barty asks, eyes narrowing as he worries his bottom lip between his teeth and stares at the small cottage.

He never pictured Alice living in a place like this—quaint and perfect, with a little white picket fence and tulips in window boxes.

The Alice he knows wears all black, has a mullet, listens to metal, and had pierced her own nose fifth year.

This isn’t her. 

They’re friends. Well… they were friends.

Before the war.

Before the Dark Mark on his forearm.

Before the argument that made her stop speaking to him.

Before she got married to that stupid bloody Hufflepuff and decided to become a cop like him.

Before Barty had saved her life by warning her about the plan to attack her house. 

Before she helped kill Evan.

Before she killed him.

She killed him.

Barty was there. Evan had saved Frank’s life. He’d saved that bastard’s life and the Aurors had attacked him for it.

Five on one.

How is that fair?

Cruel and unusual is what it is.

Though, Barty guesses, not that unusual for a bunch of fucking cops.

He blinks and realizes Bellatrix must’ve responded and has led him and the others up through the garden. Frank and Alice have to know they’re here by now. There’s not enough time for them to flee. “Yeah, I fucking got it.” Barty’s glare turns murderous, and he pulls out of her grasp.

slowly got to know each other and slowly fell in love (narcissa - fell first (despite trying to desperately suppress her emotions); alice - fell harder)

they were honestly really sweet - made each other lil handmade gifts and plucked flowers and made each other blush and held hands and hugged and cuddled and shit a lotttt

but they knew they fucked up when they seriously started thinking about a future together and realized that could never happen and started sobbing uncontrollably

but then alice, ever the hopeful optimist, was like - "wait, what if u run away with me??"

but while narcissa would die for her in a heartbeat, she would never risk living a life without security - running away with alice would just put a target on her back

it took LOTS of convincing but finally alice fully understood her perspective and didn't push

yet that put some distance between the two of them - they were still sneaking together but it didn't feel the same as before

the last time they saw each other (at least while they were both sane 😊😊) was their hogwarts graduation - they cried and made out and cried and cried and cried and their last kiss was disgusting and sloppy and they wished it would never end and then narcissa had to leave with lucius (they were engaged by this time)

both of them spoke barely a word to anybody for almost a week but they just missed each other so so much and were childishly begging the universe for a way for them to be together

narcissa at one point kept thinking what if i had just ran away from this country with alice?? and she fell into a rabbit hole and any moment she was alone she would obsess over that thought and create the perfect life with alice in her head

she found out about the longbottoms getting tortured, bellatrix's arrest, etc from lucius - he was nervous to tell her cuz he didn't want her to fucking lose it (thinking she'll break down and die from hysteria after losing both her sisters) (he's goofy like that)

she didn't do any of that however - she just didn't speak

she didn't look at lucius - she went to draco's (bleh) nursery, pulled him into her arms and rocked him back n forth

she went selectively mute and no words came out her mouth except sharp rare orders to elves or soft singing rhymes to draco

she pulled herself back together - security & stability is her middle name after all - and appeared right as normal within 1-2 years

(she visited alice once a week religiously under glamour to do nothing but sit and hold her hand and talk like the teenager she used to be with her - she would sob and laugh with all her chest like andromeda showed her it was ok)

(a small tw for a self harm mention, but nothing more than two sentences about it)

we all know that sirius and andromeda both left the family with a bang. sirius had stood up on the table with a sense of drama that regulus could only dream about—announcing that neither he nor andromeda were going to be heirs to the black family. that they had both found lovers that weren't pure, yet they loved them all the same. regulus remembered when his mother had snapped at sirius' words, had cursed them both verbally and magically to never return. he remembered how his stomach had turned into an even bigger pit than before. how sirius and andromeda both stormed out of the house doors. regulus never had the same level of confidence as those two did. but he knew that he was calculating enough to have the same flair. he wished that he could just stay silent and rebel in silence. he had in so many little ways for so many years. but now he knew he had no choice—especially since kreacher had come to him with information about salazar's locket. so he had to plan. he knew that he couldn't stand himself on the table like sirius and andromeda had. that the death eaters would search for him until he was dead. that was, unless he already was dead. so he decided—in the way that completely sane and normal way people do—that he had to fake committing suicide. the planning was first. the only one who was allowed to know about this plan was kreacher, who under no circumstances was allowed to tell anyone else. the next part of his plan was focused on the rest of his magic. the first issue was the dark mark. he knew voldemort could track him should he keep that dark mark with him, that the man would know regulus was still alive. which mean that he needed to get rid of it—through conventional means or not. so he cut it off. nothing more than a knife and a quiet fascination with the way that his blood flowed down his veins. the next issue was his magic. he would have to leave magic alone unless there was a dire situation, much like he would have to leave his wand here. which also meant that he would either need to learn wandless magic or get a new one. he supposed it was a good thing that ollivander had told him that people can change more than their wands can handle. so he went to hogsmeade and got himself a new wand, a small concealment charm on him as an extra precaution. the body was second. a muggle that voldemort had already sacrificed—a body that he could use magic to turn into a copy of his own. he wrote a note for his mother and father and placed it on his bedroom pillow, body laid right next to it. he had sewn the dark mark onto the left arm for the extra flair—a perfect way to prove that it was truly him. he knew that nobody would ever tell sirius nor andromeda, not even if that was his final wish. maybe not even kreacher. but he also knew that andromeda could tell sirius as long as she knew. so he found andromeda’s old pet owl that he had kept safe from bellatrix, a small and bruised thing with a scratched wing and sharp claws. he gifted it a letter to give to andromeda and sirius each, his cursive print laid neatly on each and every crevice he could fill. and then he left. he took voldemort's horcrux and he left—holding nothing more than his own body, wand and kreacher.

i have a small(ish) series that kind of revolves around traveler!reg, but he's note quite as specified as it would be here. but i am planning on finishing the series before i post it, so keep a look out for that! and as another thank you—thank you anon for the request! and also thanks to leeny for the idea again, and also for being a really good listener to my writing shenanigans <3 (also sorry for the formatting, tumblr is kinda wack with the smaller text sometimes)

Bellatrix is not as such your local crazy lady as the fandom tends to pretend. The movies and Helena’s performance played a big part in this but she gets often totally mischaracterized.

Bella is unhinged and broken in the same way Sirius is after 12 years of brutal prison but she is definitely quio sane. Her obsession with Voldemort has nothing to do with madness but that’s an another topic to discuss.

The only scene where we see her acting out is the Battle of the Department Ministry when she continuously mocks the “group of children” who is there to fight them. Later in the battle she is purposefully trying to rile Harry up perfectly knowing what are his triggers.

In the spinner’s end chapter she is reasoning with Narcissa till they arrive to Snape. She is somehow the only person who is actively questioning Snape’s loyalty and despite her devotion to Voldemort she is questioning his judgment as well, that’s when Snape touches the sensitive subject that she and V are not on talking matters right now.

In DH when the golden trio is in the Malfoy Manor she is capable to understand the grave situation of their if the Cup from her vault is missing. Narcissa and Lucius have no idea what’s going on, but Bella knows Voldemort is gonna kill them all if the cup have gotten stolen and yet she treats the whole situation pretty reasonably. (Yes her method is to torture Hermione but again that has nothing to with her mental capabilities rather the fact that she sees muggleborns as inferior).

So portraying her as someone who doesn't know what she is doing or the consequences of them is quite wrong. Her moral compass is obviously nothing one should agree with but that doesn't mean she is not in her right mind.

She has enough control over here emotions to master Occlumency and she gives at least a few displays that are probably blatantly false and used for emotional manipulation, like Narcissa does in HBP.

Also Bellatrix never participated in the murder of Dumbledore in the books because she was never there at the first place. She doesn't burn the Burrow down or does any other grandiose acts which paints her character as unnecessary unstable.

One does not need to be insane to be bigot.

Narcissa and Lucius’ Unbreakable Vow story is so fuckin funny to me.

So you’ve got Narcissa, realizing that she should be married off soon, and then realizing the reason she hasn’t been married off yet or at least promised to someone is because of how Sirius is behaving. Bella and Andy were already promised by the time they were her age, but she’s the backup for Sirius.

Absolutely not. She grabs Bella, explains that she absolutely will not do this and needs help picking a pureblood husband fast.

How they decide on Lucius? Irrelevant. It’s an honor to marry a member of their family, so they just need someone who isn’t spoken for publicly. Lucius will do.

Imagine Lucius hearing their proposal, and his Malfoy instincts being like “a marriage to a Black? Yes ofc it��s an honor to marry into that family, they rarely allow others to marry their children.” He agrees, is thrilled, and then,

Later

At night maybe weeks after that vow is made

He realizes

That while yes, he did promise to marry a sane, levelheaded member of the Black Family,

And truly, what an honor, the odds of that happening are unspeakable. So unlikely it seems a fantasy.

But

He’s also vowed to make the ENTIRE Black Family his in-laws.

All of them.

And he just sort of stares at the wall, trying to accept what he’s sentenced himself to.

At least his parents will be proud and his children will be gorgeous regardless of which parent they take after. He’s to marry a Black, after all.

(This also justifies why Narcissa turns to Bellatrix when she needs a vow out of Snape. They’ve danced this dance before and coerced an unbreakable out of Lucius, they can absolutely wrestle one out of Severus.)
