Haunted House
Larissa Weems x fem reader
Summary: “Request for Larissa. She and reader plan a haunted house for halloween? (Maybe Larissa uses a fake chainsaw for her scare at some point)” requested by @chromium-siren
Warnings: Fake chainsaw
Requests open
———————————
It was that time of year again, Halloween, yours and Larissa’s favourite holiday. In your early years of dating the two of you would decorate your house, get the candy ready for the kids and sit down and watch a horror film. You always took it in turns to who answered the door so at least the two of you could get to understand what was going on in the movie.
It wasn’t until a few years later that a brilliant idea came across Larissa’s mind. Being the headmistress of Nevermore came with a lot of perks and the one thing that the two of you really wanted to do was throw a haunted house event for charity.
All entry fees would go towards decorating the place up and the rest would be donated to charity. It was brilliant and the two of you loved hosting the event every year. You always went with a theme and this year you decided to go with slashers and madmen.
Over the last few years the themes have been witches' lair, clowns and zombies. It was honestly going to be amazing with the theme you had chosen this year. You decided to have people dress up as the most famous slashes and mad men.
Some of the characters you decided to go with were Jason, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Leatherface, jigsaw, ghost face and Chucky just to name a few. You were convinced that this haunted house was going to be the best one yet.
You were currently in the main hall of Nevermore setting up one of the scare mazes. It was pretty simple. You used a lot of the boards that were used to display students' work as the walls of the maze. You then covered it in the fabric you wanted to.
While you were setting this all up you heard a familiar pair of footsteps enter the hall and start making their way towards you. That was when you heard the chainsaw start up but all you could do was laugh as you turned around.
“How come you’re not scared” they asked you. “Because Larissa I know your footsteps. So I knew that it was you coming towards me. So why would I be scared of the woman I love most?” You laughed. “Well I am holding a chainsaw” she smirked at you trying to get the upper hand.
“Well yeah you are but that hasn’t got a chain on it so good luck trying to hurt me with it” you laughed once again as you went back to putting up the decorations. “Anyway, how are your sections? They decorated yet?” You asked Larissa as you turned to look at her.
“Yep all done and dusted. Hence why I came to scare you with the chainsaw” Larissa laughed. “Do you want a hand with the last little bits?” Larissa asked as she placed the chainsaw down on the floor. “Yeah if you wouldn’t mind” you told her. “Those last few boards just need their fabric coverings to go on as well as having their accessories pinned up” you told her as you passed over the stuff she needed
With Larissa having everything she needed she headed over to the boards to start decorating. The two of you over the next hour just chatted away about everything. “So I was thinking of maybe dressing up this year,” Larissa told you out of the blue.
“Really? You don’t want to hand out candy like we normally do?” You asked her as you finished up on the last little bit. “Well I still want to do that but I really want to be involved with it this year. I would love to dress up and wave around a chainsaw” she laughed as she walked over to you.
“Oh of course you would. Ok so if you want to be involved with the actual scaring then I will hand out the candy. I don’t think I have the energy to be scaring all of those people” you laughed to Larissa. “Well you better go and get yourself sorted with the other scare actors. You only have a few hours to get yourself ready before the doors open” you told Larissa as you encouraged her out the door.
She gave you a peck on the lips before she made her way out of the room. Well that was Larissa sorted. In the meantime you needed to pop to Costco to get a large number of sweets as well as a potential Halloween costume.
You were quick to hop into the car before driving to the nearest Costco. You grabbed yourself a trolley before immediately heading to the sweet aisle. In went a variety of Reece’s products, bags of M&M’s, bite size Hershey bars, Laffy Taffy, Jolly Ranchers as well as a few other products. Obviously you had to get quite a large amount of candy due to the amount of people that came to the event.
You also wanted to make sure they were able to take at least a handful of candy each. With the trolley now full of sweets and chocolate you made your way to the Halloween aisle. You picked up a few candy buckets to put the treats in. You were going to put the spares in another large box and just top the buckets up throughout the evening.
Now the last thing you needed was a costume. You had a look at the selection available but the one that drew you in the most was a plague doctor costume. It was perfect. You picked it up and put it in with everything else. With everything now sorted you headed to the checkout to pay. Now this trip was definitely going to cost you an arm and a leg.
With everything now paid for you headed straight to the car before loading it up with all your goodies. Back to Nevermore now to get all this candy sorted out. When you arrived you headed straight to your classroom to sort through all the candy.
Box after box you opened before tipping it all into the giant box. After about 45 minutes you finally had a full box of candy that was all mixed together. With everything now sorted the only thing you had left to do was get yourself dressed into your Halloween costume.
In good timing too considering you had half an hour until the doors opened. You got yourself into your plague doctor costume before going off to find Larissa. You eventually found her in one of the classrooms that was being used for the actors to get ready in.
Larissa looked absolutely incredible. She was dressed up as Chucky which is ironic really considering Chucky is a small doll and Larissa is 6ft 3. “I love the outfit babe. What’s your choice of weapon tonight then?” You asked as Larissa turned around to look at you.
“I’m going with the chainsaw,” Larissa laughed. “Really? But Chucky’s murder weapon is a knife” you told her as you smirked at her. “Alright horror nerd but I want the chainsaw so I’m going with the chainsaw” Larissa laughed defending herself.
“Alright, alright, if you say so. But if anyone asks why Chucky is so tall and carrying a chainsaw I’m telling them he has an evil twin brother” you laughed. “That's fine with me. Well I better go and get in place. Doors open in 10 minutes” Larissa said as she made her way out of the classroom and took her place within the school.
The rest of the scare actors also got on with finding their places while you made your way to the front doors to let everyone in. You got one of the students to help you carry out the candy which you left by the exit. You attached the sign alerting guests that they can take a handful of candy each.
With that sorted you made your way to the main entrance. You and a couple of members of staff were managing the front gate until the first lot of guests made their way out of the maze. That is when you would head over to the candy to keep an eye on that.
The reason that a few members of staff were needed on the front gate was because the guests needed to go round in groups of 10. That was because if they didn’t get sent round in groups then it wouldn’t give the scare actors enough time to get back to their starting positions meaning half of the groups wouldn’t see them.
That’s no fun either and a waste of money. That is why we have always organised it to be in larger groups. The doors to the scare maze opened and there stood a large crowd of people waiting to go in. Thankfully you had made a line for people to join meaning it was a lot less chaotic. You were so excited for this scare maze to begin.
You grabbed the megaphone and got ready to say your speech. “Good evening everyone. Welcome to the 2024 Nevermore Haunted House maze. This year's theme is slashers and madmen. Now let’s hope you all get alive” you announced to the crowd who all erupted in a loud cheer.
With the announcement now complete you started letting the groups in allowed a five minute delay between each group entering. You chatted with a few of the groups when they were waiting at the front of the line but after a while you had to dash off to make your way to the exit of the maze.
It was really important for you to be there to offer candy to the groups of people. Just as you got to the area where the groups would be exiting a group of terrified people made their way out. “Hey guys! So what did you guys think of the maze?” You asked as you made your way over to them.
“That was fucking amazing. Definitely the best one yet. Tall Chucky was definitely terrifying” they laughed as they all helped themselves to some candy. “Haha tall Chucky. I like that. Definitely better than what I was gonna call them. I was referring to them as Chucky’s evil twin” you laughed which caused them to laugh.
With that the group headed off while you waited for the next group to come through the exit. As the night went on the groups coming out the exit were becoming more frequent so it meant you couldn’t chat as long but it wasn’t too bad. There was only so much talking you were willing to do.
You decided to check the time and it was now 23:00. Last entry was at 22:30 which meant the last few groups would be heading out now and just on que the last group made their way out of the maze.
“Hey guys, did you have a good night?” You asked them. “Definitely! We will come back next Halloween” they all cheered. That was music to your ears. You wished them a good evening before getting started on clearing down the candy that didn’t get taken. The students could share the rest of this between them all.
Just as you were clearing up you heard a twig snap in the distance. You looked up but due to it being so dark you couldn’t see a thing. You quickly went back to packing up. That was when a tall figure ran out at you with the sound of a loud chainsaw starting up.
“Ahhhhh” you screamed as you cowered in the corner not knowing what to do. That was when the tall being started laughing. “Larissa, that wasn’t funny” you screamed at her as you stood up. “I told you I would scare you” she laughed.
“Yeah but that was terrifying. I thought you were going to kill me” you screamed back at her. “I’m going to bed and you are sleeping on the couch” you told her as you made your way to your bedroom. “I probably deserved that” Larissa laughed to herself as she followed behind.

me realising I have to wait a whole year for compound again. Ughhhhhhhh.
when i go towers again next year I’m gonna pay for like 5 runs on compound.
i wish they would bring back like a phalanx scare zone as well. Like fake apocalypse in 2015.
like compound isn’t the only nemesis themed scare attraction. We’ve had dark apocalypse, subspecies, project 42 and now compound.
like I wish they would add elements of past nemesis mazes to compound.
someone give the phalanx some new chainsaws đŸ«ĄđŸ«Ą

This could very well be an entirely lukewarm take, but after going down a research spiral related to the Sanctuary (alton tower's 2012-2014 Smiler themed scare maze) and being in despair that there wasn't even a bootleg recording of the experience:
I believe that in all parks with haunts in the halloween season, the parks should do an official recording of each scare attraction. While I can see a few downsides to letting the general public record (lights on cameras diminishing the experience, scare actor discomfort in front of cameras, and the general public already misbehave a lot in mazes so letting them have cameras could exacerbate that issue in a few different ways) I think that it is hugely important to have a recording in terms of archiving the history of the park to have any recordings at all.
Think of all the hard work that goes into making a scare maze. Weeks of planning themes and stories, hundreds of props and set pieces, elaborate lighting and effects, hours put towards making costumes and makeup perfect, and the dozens of talented scare actors working their asses off to give guests a fun scare. Yet there's only about a total of, assuming a maze gets a two year run, two halloween seasons' (approx a month) worth of few-hour time slots that they will ever be appreciated, analysed and experienced at all. But if there was even one walk through recording of each maze, all of that could be fixed, and many of the issues with the GP recording the events can be easily avoided by just having the parks themselves do these walk through videos.
Plus, I can think of a lot of accessibility benefits to recordings, too. A lot of people (frankly myself included) dread going into any experience where they don't have a general idea of what is going to happen. Plus, for some people that just can't experience certain mazes at all (eg, wheelchair users not being able to access Towers' mazes that are within the ruins themselves), but might have wanted to see the contents, it's definitely not a perfect solution, but it's better than them never seeing the inside of the maze.
Towers have kind of made a step towards this; they did a series this year with a handful of actors and tiktokers going through some of the mazes, and you could kind of see what was going on, but it was clear that they also wanted to obscure as much as they could. It's nothing grand, but definitely better than nothing at all. But, I think it would be way better to just get like one professional recording per maze!
Is this rant mostly because I'm bitter about there being no footage of the Sanctuary other than a few photos and one very crunchy audio-only recording?
.............. yea, admittedly, but I do think I have a point. I don't want these mazes to be only hazy memories after their runs in the park.

I know halloween just ended and I have technically missed my window for Haunted House Steddie but I put to you
1) its a haunted corn maze not a house, they're in Indiana after all
2) Steve (and most of the party) have seen so much actually awful shit that the scare actors in cheap costumes (that they themselves have added onto for the love of the game mind) just aren't scary.
Like they're there to ACT scared, to have a fun time and giggle sure, but it's mostly them laughing at each other.
Cue something happening where either they stumble across someone whose terrified and has to be escorted out (Holly or one of Hellfire makes the most sense but Tommy is the funniest) and Steve's Older Brother instincts kick in.
I'm imagining scare actor Eddie, having the time of his life, suddenly witnessing Steve and Robin's personalities "switch." They go from laughing and jumpy and well, like everyone else, to just dead calm.
Robin's leaning in, asking if the panicked party wants to be escorted out through an exit or if they want her and Steve to ruin it for them, and Eddie is fatalistically curious as to *how exactly* they can ruin the maze, only for Steve to lean in and loudly whisper;
"Are you really gonna let the theater kids have this much power over you?"
He can't help it he laughs so hard he gives himself up, and then ends up helping the trio get out of the maze.
He offers to escort Steve and Robin back in rather than make them go back to the front and pay a second time, but makes a comment about their personality change.
Steve shrugs and tells him they've seen some shit and Robin adds that this stuff is too corny (pun intended) to be frightening.
Cue Eddie telling them he WILL scare them at the end of the night.
Steve tells him if he can pull it off he'll buy pizzas for the next Hellfire game.
TLDR Eddie does indeed end up scaring them but it's by accident when he falls off a ladder in a scare attempt and hurts himself. Steve panics at *that*, rushing over to check Eddie didn't crack his skull open. Admonishes Eddie for scaring him and the second the words are out of his mouth, Eddie's got a hand in the air as he wheezes;
"VICTORY!!!"
Then Steve forces Eddie to hang out with him all night as he's absolutely convinced the idiot has a head injury and Eddie makes six million nurse Stevie jokes the end

if my memories workin right, you mentioned in a post before that the place this au takes place is like close to the outskirts? I just imagine there’s a farm nearby and has a corn maze that makes a great chase scene for Moon.
Yeee—this post probably is the one you’re thinking of. Community at the outskirts of a small rundown city. Still technically separate from the city in name. Mix of chain stores/restaurants and small independent businesses. There’s a pretty hard cut to open farmland and forest not too far from the arcade. Really it’s the picture of a thousand other midwestern towns.
Big yes to Moon in a corn maze. Mmm actually, the scene is coming together in my head as I type this. The boys and you visit a cider mill for the season. Do the whole shebang—pick apples and pumpkins, pet the goats, ride the hayride. You guys spend the whole day there. By the time you get to the corn maze, the stalks are casting long shadows across the grass.
Sun parks himself on a bench outside, enjoying cider and donuts while Moon and you head inside the maze. The attendant gives you a flashlight and tells you to watch your step with the impending dusk. First you go right and then right again and then hang a left and then—oh, someone dropped their sunglasses—and then straight and then—hang on, where did Moon go? It’s getting dark fast and he had the flashlight.
Ehehe man, there’s no other feeling like walking 10 feet into a corn field in early autumn. The whole rest of the world just falls away immediately. It’s actually so peaceful right? Just wind and sky and corn stalks. Yet there’s a creeping feeling of anticipation. The flutter of a hundred leaves out of the corner of your eye plays tricks on you. Makes you feel like something else is moving around in there with you, stalking amongst the stalks :3c.

Psychological. Psychological reasons people. They react the way they do in scare mazes? Please? Pretty please?
the way I sat up in bed to type this out cuz I got excited
OKAY. SO
I think a lot of how a person acts has to do with animalistic instincts? Specifically the way a prey animal interacts with a predator. For example, the most recent time I went to a scare maze I could not make eye contact with the actors in the maze. Like, I have autism so I usually can’t make eye contact but I couldn’t even look at their FACES. I was instinctively looking down and away
And with a lot of animals making eye contact is a sign of aggression, and looking down or bowing your head is a sign of submission (especially in canines; my dog actually gets anxious when our family is saying our nightly prayer because we bow our heads and we are supposed to be superior to him in a pack hierarchy). So in a position where one is frightened, I think you will naturally act the same way a prey animal would towards a predator or an animal who is above them in a social hierarchy
I am generally pretty chill in scare mazes, at least after I went to one last season. However, this season and last season when I went to mazes I noticed that I got anxious and uncertain if I got too far ahead of my group. I was constantly checking over my shoulder to make sure they were behind me. Humans are naturally social creatures and are (usually) more comfortable when they have people they can rely on and trust.
So in a high stress position like a scare maze you are going to want to make sure there are people near you to protect you and support in the event that something bad happens (and since our brains cannot tell the difference so well between a genuine threat and a simulation of a threat our brains will think that you are in danger in something like a scare maze)
I also think that prey/predator dynamic comes into play in other areas. To give a more human specific example, there was a part in a maze I went to last season where my group got turned around in the maze and an actor had to point us in the right direction. My dad, however, didn’t hear the actor and started going the wrong way and it was physically difficult for me to turn my back on the actor and go get him. Just like if a person thought themself in danger they would not generally turn their back on the threat, I also had a hard time turning my back on the actor to get my dad.
So yeah I think a lot of why we act how we do has to do with prey/predator instincts and other survival instincts that have been ingrained in us over the centuries! And then also instincts that are more specific to humans but are still deeply rooted survival instincts like not turning your back on a threat. Now that I am typing this out actually that could be because humans are predators? So while a prey animal’s instinct would be to run in a dangerous situation, a predator’s instinct would most likely be to fight, and thus a human would not want to turn their back and expose themself.
And besides all of this, scare mazes are specifically designed to disorient for maximum scare effect. Like, I went to two mazes so far this season and one was indoor and super cramped and the other was outside and far less cramped, and the indoor one was significantly more frightening to me. So all of these instincts are going to be heightened because, for the most part, you are at all times confused or disoriented in some way by your surroundings.
I haven’t fact checked any of this so please do not take this as fact. But I DO spend a lot not time thinking about this during spooky season, so.

On my way back from Thorpe! Had an amazing day. Did survival games and Stiches. Survival games was AMAZING. Scarier than compound. But not as themed. Compound was better. But still one of the best mazes I’ve done. Stiches was mid personaly. But I wasn’t really paying attention. Cause I have a phobia of dolls. And was just trying to get out. It’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m rlly grateful that I went

Yeah okay fine I caved and made a Twili OC. Based her off of @linked-maze’s AMAZING Twili stuff please check them out!
This is Demeter, named after the goddess, and naturally she is a farmer. She’ll tell you she loves all of her animals equally but.. come on we all know it’s the (temporarily unnamed) “chicken.”
Though I’m not sure if the Ichor-ebb is the correct size?? Based it off of a horse but made it somewhat smaller aha-
Demeter is CONSTANTLY covered in dirt and grime, and probably has no clue what a shower is (I didn’t portray that in the reference but. she is messy!)
She doesn’t wear clothes, they’re too restricting.
