El humor puede aumentar la credibilidad de la comunicación científica

Imagina que estás en una charla sobre ciencia y, de repente, alguien suelta un chiste. Puede parecer que la seriedad de la ciencia se va a las pailas, pero un estudio reciente sugiere que, en realidad, el humor podría ser la clave para mejorar la comunicación científica. Investigar cómo los chistes pueden influir en la percepción pública de la ciencia es precisamente lo que hicieron Alexandra Lynn Frank y sus colegas en su estudio, publicado en JCOM. Encontraron que, cuando se utiliza adecuadamente, el humor puede aumentar la simpatía hacia el científico y hacer que el público considere que el mensaje es una fuente legítima de información científica ¿qué tal?

La investigación se centró en cómo reaccionamos ante diferentes tipos de humor en publicaciones de redes sociales de científicos, específicamente a través de la cuenta de un científico ficticio llamado Dr. Jamie Devon. Los participantes del estudio, un total de 2212 personas seleccionadas de manera que representaran a la población de EE. UU., visualizaron tuits que incluían caricaturas sobre inteligencia artificial. Estas caricaturas variaban en cuanto al uso de humor: algunos eran completamente serios, mientras que otros incluían chistes que iban desde la sátira ligera hasta la antropomorfización, donde objetos o animales actúan como humanos. Al final, tuvieron que evaluar cuánto se rieron, cuán simpático encontraron al científico, y si consideraban que el contenido era una forma válida de comunicación científica.

Los resultados fueron interesantes: aquellos que encontraron el contenido divertido tendieron a tener una mayor opinión favorable sobre el científico. Por lo visto, la gente se siente más inclinada a escuchar y aceptar mensajes de quienes pueden hacerles reír. Pero cuidado con el humor hiriente, porque investigaciones previas han demostrado que una sátira demasiado dura puede ser vista como agresiva, lo que podría poner en duda la credibilidad del comunicador. Así que, como en muchas cosas en la vida, el balance es fundamental.

Todo indica que la ciencia tiene mucho que ganar al incorporar el humor en su comunicación. No sólo se trata de hacer reír, sino de crear conexiones más humanas y comprensibles con el público. Al final del día, un buen chiste puede ser el puente que permite que conceptos complejos sean más accesibles y, quién sabe, quizás incluso un poco menos intimidantes.

Quizás esto sirva para otros propósitos, como prevención de riesgos, educación ambiental, vida saludable, qué se yo...por mi parte, empezaré a usar memes para divulgar las bondades de la metodología de investigación.
