Best Programming Language to Solve the Reynolds Equation for Lubrication Simulations
The Reynolds equation is fundamental in fluid film lubrication analysis, often solved using numerical methods like finite difference or finite element approaches. Whether you’re a researcher, engineer, or student, choosing the right programming language can dramatically impact your development speed, simulation performance, and visualization capabilities. 🔍 What is the Reynolds Equation? The…

Why You Should Get Yourself a Job with Legacy Programming Languages
Key Takeaways “Old” languages are still relevant: FORTRAN, COBOL, and Pascal continue to play crucial roles in specific domains. FORTRAN: Excels in scientific computing and high-performance computing. COBOL: Remains essential in financial systems for handling large datasets and transactions. Pascal: Influenced modern languages and continues to be used in education. Career opportunities…

I made a lot of plots and figures today. a lot more than usual. maybe too many for one day. too many because it was in matlab and matlab never builds to anything. everything is a quaint dead end of code (quaint for the tool author). imagine a computing environment where nobody ever had to kill their darlings. And the people cheering it on are some of the worst communicators you know. I don't have patience for expressive tools that don't let you modulate the abstraction level and information density over a broad range. matlab is firmly locked on the "graybeard" setting. welcome to his dark computer closet of wasting your time.

Does a USB drive get heavier as you store more files on it?
Nope. Paradoxically (and theoretically), the more you save on a flash drive, the lighter it gets.
USB drives use Flash memory, which means the the ones and zeros of the data are stored on transistors.
When you save data, a binary zero is set by charging the float gate of the transistor, and a binary one is set by removing the charge.
To charge it, we add electrons, and the mass of each electron is 0.00000000000000000000000000091 grams.
This means that an empty USB drive (which mostly holds zeros) weighs more than a full USB drive (which has ones and zeros). Add data, reduce the weight.

one of the most depressing parts of being a nonbinary trans person that I don't think a lot of binary people (trans or otherwise) realize is that having that moment of truly recognizing ourselves in the mirror may literally never come. ive gotten much closer to my ideal appearance over the last 9 years but I am still always slightly dysphoric.
i always read those posts from binary trans people about how you can suddenly see the light in their eyes and how happy they are to be alive once they start transitioning. and it is totally true in many cases, I've seen enough transition timelines in my life to completely agree with this.
and I am jealous. because I (and many other nb people) will never experience this. ever.
ive been out for over a decade and while I've obviously become happier with my presentation. ive never personally had that 'happiness in my eyes' look. because it is absolutely impossible for me to achieve it. even if I get to the point where my presentation is exactly what I want to put out into the world it doesn't even matter. not even in just a 'people will always misgender me so who cares' way. I mean in a 'I could literally be a hermit with no human contact and will *never* be able to look like what I want to' way.
so many trans people describe essentially experiencing low-level dissasociation/derealization before transitioning due to dysphoria that they didn't initially realize was there. it sucks.
imagine spending your entire life like that even after you start transitioning. because there's nothing you can fucking do. your ideal body is scientifically impossible to achieve.
probably not for every nb person ever. but I'd bet it's a significant majority of us. a significant portion who just coast through life and will always be disconnected from ourselves no matter what we do. and it's no one's fault, but existing that way? can tell you from experience. fucking exhausting.
