                                                                           JUNE 2025
THE RIB PAGE
The 50th AFI Lifetime achievement award was presented to Francis Ford Coppola. Steven Spielberg proclaimed, The Godfather the greatest American film ever made. My Father would agree!
*****

*****
Michael Cera is making his directorial debut with Love is not the answer. The film stars Pam Anderson and Steve Coogan.
*****
Weed used to have seeds in it. - Seth Meyers
*****
A government can be no better than the public opinion which sustains it. - FDR
*****
It seems that CVS owns Aetna and they might be leaving the poor behind. There is word that next year they will no longer help those that are part of Medicaid or Obamacare.
*****
Canada installed a wildlife detection system to warn drivers of nearby animals.
*****
Servers are telling us that tipping is half of what it used to be.
*****
Everybody is talking about TACO, the Wall Street word of the year: Trump Always Chickens Out. ** If Taco Bell doesn’t come out with a chicken taco wrapped in a Cheeto-dusted shell, they’ve missed a HUGE opportunity. - US Democratic socialists
*****
The slow brain dictator can’t stop talking about water. If we give him all the water, will he go away? Water is a big subject with some dementia patients. ** Canada elected a guy with a PhD in economics from Oxford University. Mexico elected a woman with a PhD in energy engineering. The U.S. elected a 2- time impeached con man who bankrupted 4 casinos and has 34 felony convictions. Mexico and Canada really do border on stupidity. - #Canada hates Trump. ** Why is Stephen Miller such a self- hating Jew? ** Will they ever be honest, years from now about the top MAGAt man? Will they come clean about his mental issues? What would the most loyal think if they found out their leader had dementia, and they were going along with him like things were normal? What does that say about them? If the powers were honest, would the faithful even believe it? How many have gone over a cliff with this lunacy? About half of the country has been susceptible. How long will this continue? The paranoia and conspiracies make some sense, I guess, when someone fucks over others thru their life. Imagine spending your life in court and looking over your shoulder. This is what happens when you look for ways to be cruel. ** I see normal citizens struggling financially every day while our President gets richer and richer. A grown man who can’t seem to tell what a real tattoo is should not be in charge. A man who sells pardons and can’t tell fact from fiction should not be in charge. To be so stubborn or greedy or stupid that science and education seem to mean mothing is beyond belief. People are joining the Trump clubs looking for favors. Imagine any other President showing a President from another country fake stories that are supposedly happening in that President’s country?
*****
Scary Clown held a black- tie dinner for his meme coin MAGA’s. The 220 guests spent about $394 mil on his coin. Guests included Lamar Odom and Justin Sun. ** This is one of the most corrupt things the President has ever done. - Chris Murphy ** The congressional budget office says that if we keep going the way we are going, the richest of us will be about 2% richer and the poorest will be about 4% poorer. Let’s not forget that things were off before the chaos but will get worse. The average employee in the 70’s made about 15 X less that those at the top. In 2018, the average employee made about 400 X less. The top needs to learn how to share. **The current plan in the works should bring about the largest transfer of wealth in American history. - Jonathan Chait ** Where is Patricia Neal via A Face in the Crowd, when we need her?
*****
Fossilized collagen is being used to make Dinosaur leather bags.
*****
Michael Schur, Lisa Lu, Green Day and Ricky Gervais received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. WAR will get theirs on June 5.
*****
The MAGA crowd seems to be getting upset that the celebs they hate, and the Biden family haven’t been arrested yet. They don’t seem to understand that you actually have to do something wrong. ** There may be an autopen investigation. How much time will these folks waste? The courts say stop deporting but they just keep on disappearing us. ** The Washington Post reports that Chief of staff Susie Wiles personal phone was hacked. The hackers contacted top US officials. The FBI is investigating now that the newspaper made them aware there was a problem.
*****
Everybody’s talking about young American males joining Russian churches. Parents are so dropping the ball. Russian Orthodox tells us that eating soup, skinny jeans and crossing your legs are not for men. Is that true?
*****
A crypto torture story? What a modern headline.
*****
Mike Waltz is out as National Security advisor and in as a U.S. Ambassador. The ambassador gig comes with a $15 mil apartment. Way to cut costs. Marco Rubio is filling in as NSA. The pool of picks for this reality television cabinet of insanity gets smaller and smaller. Right hand man, Steven Chung is worrying reporters. Some say that he is often collapsing, and the ambulance has to be called due to his bad health. His posts are sort of performance art for Trump. Kingsley Wilson is the new press secretary for the Department of Defense. The American Jewish committee accuses her of posting ‘antisemitic conspiracy theories.’ FBI Deputy director, Dan Bongino was whining on Fox about how hard his job is and how much he dislikes it. Welcome to real work! Eventually they should be able to find some competent people. Right?
*****
Taylor Swift bought her music back.
*****
William Henry Harrison had a better first 100 days and he spent 70 of them dead. - NYCJayJay
*****
First, they fascinate the fools, then they muzzle the intelligent. - Bertrand Russell
*****
The noms for the News and Documentary Emmy’s include CBS Sunday Morning / Ketanji Brown Jackson, 60 minutes for their editing of the Democratic ticket, Dateline, The CBS evening News with Norah O’Donnell, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, CBS Mornings, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, On the Brink, the PBS News Hour, Jimmy Carter: A full life , 20/20, ^0 Minutes/ Pope Francis, James Carville: Winning is everything, Stupid/CNN, David Attenborough and the Jurassic sea monster/ Nature PBS, Billy and Molly: An otter love story, National Geographic, The truth vs. Alex Jones, HBO, Hitler and the Nazi’s: Evil on trial and Steve Kornacki rand campaign/ MSNBC. ** Next Emmy’s should remember Cynthia Erivo and Giancarlo Esposito in Poker Face.
*****
Are you ready for this media? – Pam Bondi. ** Why do they still wear the MAGA hats? I have always thought that America was wonderful but when will they ever think so? Even though their leader was elected, they don’t think it is great yet and continue to wear their wish hats. ** I think one of the hardest things to accept is how much they hate the founding Fathers of this great country. America was set up so beautifully except for the obvious slave issue and misogyny etc. But the point is they started with checks and balances. The set up allowed for growth and change but we should never go backward.
*****
Alice in Chains cancelled their tour.
*****
Weinermobile races?? Slaw dog won!
*****
Sexual assault news: Sean Combs rejected a plea deal and the trial is getting underway. The trial is full of juice. From male exotic dancers, Trump Tower, sex workers and ex-FBI agents abound. ** Russell Brand was granted bail and Tucker Carlson wants to give him asylum in the U.S. They really love the rapists, don’t they? ** Gerard Depardieu was found guilty of sexual assault. He received an 18- month suspended sentence. II Michael Pitt was arrested for sexual abuse. ** Smokey Robinson was accused of sexual assault by more than one housekeeper! He is now suing the 4 housekeepers for $500 mil. ** The children’s pastor, Joe Campbell who preaches at Jim Bakker’s Morningside church has been accused of molesting many girls thru the years. ** The UK has 21 sexual assault charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate.
*****
Kohl’s CEO, Ashley Buchanan was fired. ** Aldi is opening a bunch of new stores. The makers of Oreo have sued Aldi’s. ** Was May 10 the last import from China?
*****
Drones hit a ship headed to Gaza with aid. Aid workers are still getting shot for helping. Netanyahu is starving folks as a strategy.
*****
PBS and NPR are being targeted for their truth telling from the administration. Or is this about Donald Grump? ** Netflix has put Sesame Street in the line- up. ** PBS has sued the administration.
*****
George Clooney is going live with Goodnight and Good Luck on June 7.
*****
Look out for Weird Al in the Bigger and weirder 2025 tour.
*****
Judges are being threatened in many ways. Fake police calls and stacks of pizza are being sent. Pizzas were sent to US District judge Esther Salas murdered son. The thugs want to make sure the judges know that they know where they live and to cause pain. The President seems to be encouraging this behavior. ** The attacks are not random. They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity. - Ketanji Brown Jackson ** The President talks often of “peanuts”, when it comes to $. He is offering folks $ to leave the U.S. so why won’t he sweeten the pot? Some want to stay and help save the country, but some are ready to leave this chaos behind. He should up the ante. If he really wants the ‘others’ out, offer more. There will be some takers. ** Look no further than the Chrisley’s pardon to see the true Trump. All the pardons show us who can commit crimes and get a pass. ** In the litigious states of America, there are about 400 court cases and injunctions just from the DOGE mess. ** The IRS expects that due to all the cuts, there will be about $500 mil in unpaid taxes. That saves? ** Experts say that with all the shenanigans, the lawsuits, fires and re-hires that about 3.1 trillion will be added to the budget. ** Scary Clown is changing the Biden infrastructure signs to instead give credit to himself. Once again, he takes credit for what his predecessor has done because he is incapable of doing anything positive.
*****
It is a big mistake in my view when you have 7.5 billion people who don’t like you very much and you have 300 million who are crowing about how they have done. -Warren Buffett. Buffett will step down at the end of the year. ** The Saudi’s and Qatar really know how to flatter our Mr. Potter Pres. Pomp and circumstance? Flying palace? Childs play. Now we KNOW that there are no limits. And Noem thinks she deserves a luxury jet. ** Just think of what other Presidents have given up. We know that Trump gave up nothing and is getting grossly rich off of his time in office. Less human rights and safety for those of us at the bottom and more $ and caviar for our elite is the word of the day!! Jimmy Carter and his family sacrificed daily for this country. The reality show Pres. wants all of us to sacrifice for him. ** Now he has made Jeanine Pirro a DC prosecutor.
*****
Musk is out but all his boys are still embedded in our government agencies. The new leader there will be Russell Vought, brainiac of Project 2025. ** Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie will continue to work with Elon. Reports say that Musk is on a steady diet of Ketamine, ecstasy, mushrooms and Adderall. The republicans can’t get enough crime and drugs. What is their deal? We have been listening to the rantings of a drug addict and a dementia patient. ** I would stay out of Starbase, Tx.
I don’t think people should take medical advice from me. - RFK Jr.
*****
Neil Young showed us the Heil Tesla.
*****
Dem’s in facilities? Alcatraz? It does not matter what someone has done or what they think or believe or worship. DUE PROCESS!
*****
Whether it’s Mormons, Catholics, IBLP or the current administration: The planet is packed and the MAGAt’s are encouraging us to have more kids. Is this the way to force your beliefs into the world? More religious kids with less education? The curriculum many are pushing is a joke and should be illegal. ** Oklahoma is requiring schools to teach Trump’s 2020 election conspiracy theory. ** A Pentagon review has put nearly all of the banned books back into Naval libraries. A win!
*****
Re: The Real ID: The Federal program pushes for regimes that strip privacy from everyone. - Alexis Hancock
*****
Newark airport is going thru some shit and they are not alone. It will soon feel like the 1800’s again. We are coming on it real fast. ** The current administration blames Biden for airport issues, but Biden allotted $ for airport infrastructure. DOGE cut it. ** Newark mayor Ras Baraka was arrested while on a congressional oversight visit with other politicians.
*****
Unregulated crypto assets can facilitate unlawful behavior. - Donald Trump
*****
Australia held onto their Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. ** Singapore’s Lawrence Wong was a winner for the People’s action party. ** In Germany, Friedrich Merz was elected chancellor.
*****
Re: Trump as Pope: Do not mock us – NY Catholic Bishops. ** The President claims that he knew nothing of the pic or who put it out. He really has no control over his own Presidency. One isn’t much of a leader when they never seem to know what the Hell is going on around them. He does not care about the Constitution so we should not be surprised. ** The first American Pope is Cardinal Robert Provost from Chicago. Word is that he shuns the spotlight, likes the White Sox and was close to Pope Francis. Trump would take credit for an American pick if the new Leo XIV and Francis hadn’t sort of dissed him. Leo’s brother, Louis is a Trump fan. Pope Leo has a lot more followers than Trump does. 6 of the 9 Supreme Court judges are Catholic. Scary Clown does not seem to care for Illinois anymore anyway. Some faithful might think that God was smiling on Illinois for being on the side of love. Personally, I was routing for the Fed Ex Pope. ** It did my heart a world of good seeing Father Guido Sarducci on Colbert.
*****
The Atlantic won the ASME 2025 Best Cover Award for Circus coming to town.
*****
Chicago city council has banned Jan. 6er’s from city employment. JB Pritzker later banned the criminals from state jobs.
*****
Firehouse and hot ones??
*****
Toy Story 5 has created a new character that will be voiced by Conan!!!
*****
I kind of want to tell Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson to shut up. You are telling us this now?? I was shocked to see the book highlighted on the entirety of Washington Week. It is painful to watch Biden now, but it is still not as bad as the current President. It does seem like a small team kept the world from knowing the truth. When someone gets to that point in their elderly life, they can’t really be responsible, so I blame that core group. From what I have now heard, Kamala Harris did go out and stand up for Biden, but she wasn’t in all the meetings. I have to wonder if she realized just how much he was struggling. The authors claim that Biden only sat for 1 long interview during his Presidency. It is funny how things like that slip by because in my mind, he was always out there. Personally, I would have voted for Biden again, but I was never happy with him running again. He said that he would not. Harris should have been put front and center long before she was. I am sure those that kept silent are feeling some guilt now. If Fox hadn’t pushed so hard at his age, the rest of us may not have got our back up so bad.
*****
Rep. Cory Mills has a bronze star. The men he supposedly saved, Joe Heit, Joe Farrand, Alan Babin and their platoon Sgt. say nobody remembers him being there. His partner, Sarah claims he assaulted her as well.
*****
Jon Voight seems to have had some influence on Trump’s foreign film decision. I mean, what kind of paranoia makes you start fucking with foreign films? It could just be that they don’t understand subtitles. It is hard enough to see foreign fare in this country. Damn!! Do we really need more screens for bad action movies?
*****
Witnesses say that Kash Patel is at nightclubs more than he is at work. ** John Fetterman seems to be struggling. There are competing stories on this, so the picture is not clear. ** Colorado congresswoman Sarah Longwell has also been accused of having some mental issues. What the fuck is up with the mental health in this country?? All the vengeance and retribution is not helping. Trans rights gone and people of color and women’s accomplishments removed from history are right on point for Nazi’s. Weaken our mental and physical states and weaken science and the military and it will be easy for Russia to take over. I guess that is probably the endgame.
*****
Did ABC tell the View to tone it down? They are the #1 daytime talk show. They must be doing something right. ** Did Fox try to set up an interview with a dead Kirstie Alley? ** Fox reminds me of the KKK. The KKK would not show their true faces, and Fox won’t show their viewers the truth.
*****
REM recut Radio Free Europe and gave the proceeds to Radio Liberty after Trump froze funding. We have relied on them since Eisenhower, broadcasting in 23 countries.
*****
Sovereignty won the Kentucky Derby.
*****
Nick Cage is in The Surfer.
*****
It’s just so unfair that American companies aren’t allowed to pay bribes to get business overseas. - Donald Trump
*****
Bill Gates will give away about $200 bil by 2045 while Musk is ‘killing’ the world’s poorest children.
*****
Ann Telnaes left her post after 17 years because editors killed her carton about Trump and the billionaires. She just got her second Pulitzer Prize.
*****
Coca-Cola had a 12- pack recall. ** Weight Watchers filed for bankruptcy. ** Space X just keeps having disasters.
*****
America’s newest game show: Trump or Trans
*****
The Met Gala came on the usual first Monday in May. The theme was Superfine: Tailoring black style. It did not disappoint. I think it was one of the most beautiful of the Met Galas. A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour were hosts. The best dressed to me were Whoopi Goldberg, Diana Ross, Zendaya, Eggo Nwodum, Cole Escola, Colin Kaepernick, Rhianna, Walton Goggins, Sabrina Carpenter. Evan Ross, Simone Biles, Lupita Nyongo, Lourde, Al Sharpton, Kerry Washington,  Jeff Goldblum, Gabrielle Union, Bee Carrozzini, Tyla, Kylie Jenner, Cardi B, Lauryn Hill, Raul Avila, Lizzo, Nicole Scherzinger, Alex Consani, Sarah Snook, Brian Tyre Henry, Ncuti Gatwa, Rachel Brosnahan, Rege-Jean Page, Angela Bassett, Regina King, Stella McCartney, Tyler Perry, Quinta, Janelle Monae, Jodie Turner-Smith, Kamala Harris, Andre 3000, Teyana Taylor, Demi Moore and Halle Berry.
*****
Days alert: EJ’s sidekick, Rita is back. MORE! And more Mrs. Choy! ** OMG.. Hope..Bo..Ciara..Carrie..Will!! Whatever happens, it’s time for Ben and Ciara to come back. ** Is Stefan heading back? ** There are many articles about John Black being recast. Soap fake news? ** Casey Moss and True O’Brien have wed. **
*****
The Equalizer was cancelled.
*****
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are divorcing. Who will get the friendship with the Kushner’s?
*****
The fight with the Universities continues. Harvard is being targeted. They have sued. The fight affects all students but especially foreign students that are being aggressively thrown out. The future queen of Belgium is affected by the chaos as she tries to educate in America. ** Harvard is set to launch free college courses online for every U.S. Citizen, highlighting basic US government, understanding the constitution and how to recognize a dictatorship. Brilliant.
*****
A lot of change is coming. - Keenan Thompson
*****
I never really watched the American Music Awards but they came and went. J Lo hosted the show. Janet Jackson won the Icon award. She hadn’t performed on television in 7 years. Rod Stewart got the lifetime achievement award, and all his offspring were there. My best dressed were Lainey Wilson and Wayne Brady.
*****
Imagine the President telling West Point grads that nobody was signing up for military stuff while Biden was in office. The grad class all signed up during the Biden administration. They also got a lesson in trophy wives. ** Scott Pelley gave the commencement at Wake Forest U where he warned that journalism and freedom of speech are under attack.
*****
The new bosses at the Kennedy center say no to more drag shows. But word is that there are still many drag engagements on the books. I am beginning to think the administration is not being totally honest. The repression and denial of their real feelings is starting to show.
*****
The 109th Indy 500 was won by Alex Palou. Second place Marcus Ericsson and 6th place Kyle Kirkwood were moved to the back after an inspection revealed unapproved vehicle modifications.
*****
We never needed Presidential immunity until we had a criminal as a President. - Morgan J. Freeman ** If Scary Clown is not sure about due process, the rule of law or the constitution, why did we even give him trials? We should have just locked him away with no rights. This is what he appears to believe in. ** The WH announced that they will remove transcripts of Trump’s speeches. That is one way of not letting us see how crazy he sounds. ** Scary Clown is telling Apple how to make its products. I guess that tech is now not exempt. Why do we want the government in everybody’s biz?? ** Regulations on toxic air have been eased. ** No one will be surprised if he bankrupts the country. He is known for that. That is why I never understood why voters wanted a bad businessman, why not a good one?
*****
In Jonathon Alter’s book, His Very Best, the comprehension levels of Presidential speeches is included. According to experts, Hoover and Carter spoke to the country at about an 11th grade intelligent level. Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, Ford and Clinton spoke to us at about a 9th grade level. FDR and Reagan spoke at about a 7th or 8th grade level. Both Bushes spoke at about a 7th grade level and Trump at a 5th grade level.
*****
Good- bye to Veterans Day? So, we won’t celebrate those that sacrificed, only the victory? ** Dictator parade? Really? Is this real? Gather the MAGA. ** The US Army has no plans to celebrate Trump’s birthday on the 250th anniversary. - Reuters
*****
Casey DeSantis seems to be in trouble for Medicare fraud. Money from the Hope Florida foundation was supposed to go to churches and other non-profits to help the needy. Leon county is looking into how the $ ended up in a political campaign. Millions were used to run ads for things the Gov. Was pushing for. Why do all these people hate the poor so much? And why do they idolize criminals?

So, the man hears about an iron dome and he comes up with golden dome cuz everything has to be gold. Word is that it will not protect everyone, would be very expensive and probably would not even work. It is ridic and would take years. Ugh!

Late night: Why did Kimmel make JB Pritzker read those nicknames? It was awkward.
*****
The Bitter end will bring us Joan Collins and Isabella Rossellini.
*****
Beware: Look out for RUMP products! ** JD Vance visited India and missile strikes were launched on Pakistan. The VP endorsed his brother, politically and he lost. ** Fighter jets seem to keep falling into the sea. These follow the collision of the ship in February in which Capt. Dave Snowden was fired. So far.. No death. Fingers crossed! ** Persian gulf? Arabian gulf? OMG!! ** Trump fan Hector Cocho was arrested by ICE and seems to be headed for Guantanamo.

REVIEW ‘GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK’ ON BROADWAY
Tumblr media
Here’s George Clooney with an urgent bulletin
NEW YORK — When George Clooney walks out on stage as Edward R. Murrow, the distinguished American journalist, the chiseled Hollywood star gets the customary entrance applause.
Another ovation follows at the end of “Good Night, and Good Luck,” the re-creation of a mid-century newsman’s battles with McCarthyism.
But that doesn’t feel as much for Clooney as for Murrow and the values for which the newsman stood — and that’s a credit to Clooney, actually, and an indication surely of just how unmoored Americans feel right now
Tumblr media
Much cliched blather is spoken in the biz about old shows that seem ripped from today’s headlines.
Human actions and conflicts don’t change much, so it’s not that hard to seem prescient or pull off some resonance with the present day.
But I’m telling you, on Wednesday night, even as Donald Trump was cutting the ship of global trade loose in perilous waters, “Good Night, and Good Luck” felt like a custom-designed experience from Captain Murrow, launched from beyond the grave that very day.
“We will not walk in fear, one of another,” he says.
“We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason.”
Tumblr media
In short, the brilliant Chicago-nurtured director David Cromer has taken a mostly prosaic, procedural media drama about the CBS news program “See it Now,” as adapted from the screenplay of a 20-year-old movie penned by Clooney and Grant Heslov and turned it into something that scorches with the heat of today’s political turmoil.
Cromer is a detail fiend.
The massive stage of the Winter Garden Theatre is designed by Scott Pask with the veracity of a mid-century broadcast newsroom, all gruff, caucasian men in ties, cigarettes, sepia-toned cameras and the kind of communal energy that we current ink-stained wretches miss so much as we tap away on laptops.
Tumblr media
Murrow’s reporting and commentary were broadcast live and that’s a byword here as everything clatters with real-time rhythms.
Cromer’s constant collaborator, the lighting designer Heather Gilbert, uses her trademark practical lighting, a gorgeous evocation of the era of eyeshades, desk lamps and fizzing bulbs.
The show also adds a little retro orchestra up in the rafters, with Georgia Heers singing as Ella.
Maybe that’s extraneous but it’s Broadway and it sets the mood.
Clooney offers a close study of Murrow that compares well with the real thing: his performance is, on occasion, under-vocalized for a venue of this size, but it’s wrought with great care and a willingness to be subsumed by character, somethign not true of all stars of Clooney wattage.
He joins readily with Glenn Fleschler, who plays the broadcasting legend and Murrow sidekick Fred Friendly; Clark Gregg, who plays the news writer Don Hollenbeck (who killed himself in 1954); Will Dagger (who plays famed producer Don Hewitt) and with Carter Hudson and Ilana Glazer, who play the married couple of Joe and Shirley Wershba and who offer some comic relief from all the mid-century testosterone.
The piece thankfully stops short of being a hagiography of Murrow: the point is made that by stepping so far out into partisan waters as distinct from just reporting the news, the great newsman opened the door to partisan attacks on a clearly partisan media.
In other words, he unconsciously created a blueprint for those less fair and scrupulous than himself and for the ideological silos wherein Americans now get their confirmatory news.
It’s also worth stating that with ticket prices for this proudly left-leaning show flying up into the stratosphere, there’s a certain elitist disconnect at play, a symptom of our current problems.
Still, Cromer’s ace here was to operate on twin tracks: to recreate with precision how Murrow and his team turned Eugene McCarthy’s prosecutorial tactics back on the prosecutor himself and hung him on his own petard, but also to explicitly look forward to the media disintegration that followed.
Tumblr media
In Act 2, there is a stunner of a video montage, credited to David Bengali, that looks like it was only created last week: its finale involves Elon Musk and it caused the audience to cry out with surprise, fear and recognition.

Maligayang Pask-OH SHIP! Mixtape 2, Listening Guide 1
Section 11: A North Pole Soiree
Followed by eager children, the listener treks the North Pole, snow gently falling, as Philip Pickett and the New London Consort plays the sinfonia from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. Now depicting elves, the Canadian Brass greets them with “Jolly Old St. Nicholas" outside Santa's Workshop.
Once inside, the Bob Rivers Comedy Corp – also in elf getups – usher in the Jackson 5 with “Grahbe Yahbalz.” The youngest of the group – the young Michael Jackson himself – tells the story of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
Tumblr media
Mitch Miller and the Gang play a guessing game with the listener and the kids in “Must Be Santa.” The Jersey Shore Boss – Bruce Springsteen – and the E Street Band admonish them that “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.” Jessie J also forewarns them about “The Man with the Bag.” One of the Kidsongs Kids piped up, musing, “If I Had a Pony for Christmas.” Perry Como sings about a special “Toyland.”
Suddenly, the listener finds oneself in the toy factory, and the toys enliven. The first to come alive are Harry Connick Jr. – as an action figure a la Minecraft User – and his “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.” Destiny’s Child, TI, and Lil’ Wayne dolls rap about the “Soldier.” Bob Rivers Comedy Corp – depicted as dolls – fight over the “Pokemon” plushes, which likewise come to life.
Tumblr media
Aqua and the “Barbie Girl” enliven, and Ken asks her to swing-dance to Duke Ellington Orchestra figurines playing “Satin Doll.” The Bowser plush sings about “Peaches” on a toy electronic keyboard before “The Super Mario Bros.” ones rap.
Section 12: Naughty-Listed
The listener then travels to young Stan Freberg’s house, in which he laments to a robber, “I’m Getting Nuttin’ for Christmas.” It turns out the burglar is Sam Harris, who bursts into a showstopping cover of “Satan’s Li’l Lamb.” His younger brother – one of the Kidsongs Kids – awakens. He tells the pair what he wants to tell Santa: “Santa, Please Don’t Forget Me.”
Section 13: Child of Mary
For many Catholics, Christmas is second to Easter as the biggest keystone liturgical celebration. And what better way to commence the segment with Celine Dion’s cover of Schubert’s setting of the Ave Maria? Jose Mari Chan contributes with his cover of “Mary’s Boy Child.” Tara Chugh and Now & Then head to the manger with the viewer, singing Scott Soper’s lovely medley of “What Child is This?” and “Child of the Poor.” Mariah Carey admires the creche in front of them, lauding, “O Holy Night.”
Tumblr media
Section 14: Una Epifanía Mexicana
The listener walks down a rural road in Mexico, with St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir singing “We Three Kings of Orient Are” behind them. One arrives with three actors portraying the Magi, with Jose Feliciano wishing them “Feliz Navidad” at the town gates.
Mariachi Juvenil welcome “Melichor, Gaspar, y Baltasar” – and the listener – to the square, where the townsfolk hang a 7-pointed star pinata for their Dia de los Reyes fiesta. They all sing, “Dale, Dale, Dale!” Apiece blindfolded and with each taking turns, some of the youths and the listener attempt to hit the pinata as Dana Hanchard, Derek Lee Ragin, and Joel Cohen’s Boston Camerata sing Juan Araujo's Los coflades de la estleya. The listener finally breaks it open with a torrent of candies piling on the tiled grounds.
Best listened with Spotify Premium.

'Shucked'! "Shucks Ma'am, It's a Helluva Show!"
'Shucked' is a musical fable/farce to see for its side-splitting humor and deeper messages current for us today.
Ashley D. Kelley, Grey Henson in Shucked (courtesy of Matthew Murphy & Evan Zimmermann) If you love corn and even if you hate it, you will laugh at the jokes about or related to the sunny fruit (official classification) in Shucked, the funny, bright, clever, homespun musical fable/farce about love, corn and deeper things. Shucked is a throwback to delightful Broadway productions that are easily…

Schmigadoon! Stage Musical Finds Its Cast for Upcoming World Premiere
Javier Muñoz, Ann Harada, Alex Brightman, and Isabelle McCalla are among the stage favorites bringing the musical TV series to the Kennedy Center stage.
By Logan Culwell-Block
November 18, 2024
Casting has been revealed for Kennedy Center's upcoming world premiere stage version of Apple TV's Schmigadoon!, set to take the Washington, D.C. theatre's Eisenhower Theater January 31-February 9, 2025. Ann Harada will reprise her performance as Florence Menlove, joined by newcomers Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice) as Josh Skinner, Sara Chase (The Great Gatsby) as Melissa Gimble, Kevin Del Aguila (Some Like It Hot) as Reverend Layton, McKenzie Kurtz (Wicked) as Betsy McDonough, Isabelle McCalla (Water for Elephants) as Emma Tate, Javier Muñoz (Hamilton) as Doc Lopez, Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!) as Mayor Menlove, Emily Skinner (Suffs) as Mildred Layton, and Ryan Vasquez (The Notebook) as Danny Bailey. Casting is by The Telsey Office. Christopher Gattelli, who choreographed both seasons of the series, will direct and choreograph the stage version, which will feature a book, music, and lyrics by series creator Cinco Paul. Press notes indicate audiences can expect songs from the series' Grammy-nominated score plus new tunes. David Chase is serving as music supervisor, with orchestrations by Doug Besterman and music direction by Steven Malone. The musical will follow the plot of the show's first season, which saw a couple, struggling to save their relationship, who suddenly find themselves in Schmigadoon, a magical world populated with characters, plots, songs, and dance numbers inspired by Golden Age musicals like Oklahoma!, The Music Man, and Carousel. The production is being presented by special arrangement with Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video, which produced the series. The series premiered on Apple TV+ in 2021, with a second season in 2023 that sent its characters to Schmicago, complete with parodies of '70s musicals like Pippin, Godspell, and Sweeney Todd. Read Playbill's exhaustive recaps of all first and second season episodes for a deep dive into the series' many musical theatre Easter eggs, references, and parodies. The upcoming production will also include scenic design by Scott Pask, lighting design by Jen Schriever, and sound design by Haley Parcher. Tickets are available at Kennedy-Center.org.

REVIEW: "The Band's Visit" at Proctors
REVIEW: “The Band’s Visit” at Proctors
by Roseann Cane Transcendent.    If you prefer a big, splashy musical with acrobatic choreography and catchy, hummable tunes, The Band’s Visit may not meet your expectations. It far exceeded mine. I’d been curious to see this multiple Tony-Award-winning show because of the praise it’s garnered. I’d imagined a sweet, clever storyline. What I got was an uplifting, humane, simple yet elegant…
