He’s getting tired of this nasty habit, liebling.

Everyday before your shower, you’ll stand in the mirror, honing in on that gorgeous, perfect body, digging for any little thing to critique.

“You better be thinking nice thoughts in there, little one.”

You just let out a groan, too far sunk into the spiral of self-hatred to claw yourself back out.

König rises from his spot on the bed a greets you with disapproving, half-lidded eyes in the mirror.

“What is it this time?”

“Tummy. Thighs. Chest.”

“Ach, you mean the best parts?”

You answer with an annoyed hum.

Konig will place his big, sturdy hands on your bare hips from behind, leaning down to plant a soft kiss on your shoulder.

The gentle peck distracts you from the strong arms scooping you up, a squeak leaving you as he sweeps you off your feet in one swift motion, ripping away your view of yourself in the mirror.

“König!”

“What?” He draws, carrying you from the bathroom to the bedroom.

“Put me down!” You say through a giggle, kicking your feet in his restraint.

“Hold on, I just have to get my curls in.”

He holds you horizontally across those strong arms, muscles tensing as he lifts and lowers you while you giggle all the way.

“I’m too heavy for this!”

“Barely a warm-up, liebling.”

He effortlessly tosses you onto the bed with a bounce, crawling over top you before you can even finish your squeal.

He showers kisses all over your bare tummy, his stubble sanding against plush, soft skin. Trailing his slobbering kisses up to your chest, giving your perfect breasts plenty of love. Your thighs would be last, showering you with pecks and even licking slow stripes across the flesh.

“König!”

“What?”

He’ll feign innocence, but that cocky smirk on his face betrays him.

I want to talk about what is, in my opinion, the Dot/Cleo scene of all time: their conversation by the Foldlight in Kinship.

Cleo lets her bubbliness fall, fully and deliberately, to reveal her insecurities for the first time in the series, and says, “I’m afraid everyone would be really disappointed in me. Do you… ever feel like that? Like if you let people find out who you truly are, it would just… ruin everything?” and—I think without intending to—in every way that they are able, with “Eye contact. [A tentative combination of two musical themes.]” Dot is saying “yes, absolutely.”

It is just this beautiful, vulnerable, intimate moment where these two very lonely people start to realize that they may be able to find a unique understanding in each other, if only they allow themselves to be understood.

Just before this Cleo says, “it sucks being reminded that people are only impressed by me because they don’t really know me.” But then! immediately after the eye contact of shared understanding, Cleo serves as that very reminder to Dot by breaking the moment with, “Oh, what am I saying? You’re amazing. You’re the coolest person ever. You’re going to be a Mother someday soon!” like cleo. please.

I act exasperated, but this is really such a tasty character beat, especially when you take Artifice’s reading of her in Safety into account (“compulsion to ensure your own safety by manipulating the emotional states of those around you”). the vulnerability (good, necessary) made her feel vulnerable (scary, unsafe) so she retreated into her fawn response.

I also want to look at Cleo’s assertion that “people are only impressed by me because they don’t really know me” from another angle—it is Cleo’s confiding in Dot about her lack of a Fold gift that allows Dot to compliment her in an especially meaningful way in The Disappearance of the Dazzling Duchess. When Cleo sees Dot’s fear and how they acted bravely in spite of it during Enlightenment, Cleo is so impressed that she seeks out Artifice to make sure he is aware of it. Cleo. Cleo, dearest. Your growing friendship with Dot serves as a sound rebuttal to everything you said here.

so, in essence—

Dot and Cleo: if people saw all the messiness I’m hiding, they would only be disappointed.

Dot and Cleo, about each other: the more I see of you as a whole, including the parts you try to hide, the more I like you, the more impressed I am by you, and the cooler I think you are (and I already thought you were soooooo cool)

Also please share more about the Tamlin rescuing Iphigenia idea. I mean it would even fit the myth if she was thought dead but was somehow transported away so I fully support it. Although I get it if you'd rather she stay dead.

trust me i'm with you on that one lmaooo — i think in bearing and physicality, he very much prefers females that remind him of what loa was like before he found out about her affair. (which plays out about as complicated mentally for him as you can imagine. which is taken out on the females who arouse him, as you can imagine.) he likes them with fire, with spark, with power, because he likes when that yields to him. like everything else, they are his dominion. part of why he was attracted to iphigenia specifically is because he could tell she had once been noble and still carried herself with that dignity, as if even for the fact that she was a bed slave just like the rest of them, she was better than it. i also think he is an ass man. like father like son :•)

my mind is a multiverse where all things are possible don't u worry. she's definitely (deeply unfortunately because i am enamored with her) dead in the main verse, but in an alternate universe, she is alive and healing! i'm still workshopping how they would actually meet, but i think it would be set around/post silver flames. tamlin gathers himself enough to attend some sort of autumn court function that necessitates him staying the night at the forest house. beron Does Not Share obviously, but emile has hatched another ploy to rise in beron's esteem. he knows beron wants to move in on the spring court, so he basically goes to iphigenia and says: bed tamlin and get information out of him that i can pass on, or i will tell my father that you whored yourself to tamlin intentionally. which would effectively ruin her to him and open her up to the unknown threats of other autumn nobility.

so iphigenia has no option. she arrives at tamlin's guest chambers just after he retires, fae wine in hand for her to serve him. emile instructed her to dress in spring court fashion. (it suits her. very much.) tamlin can obviously immediately guess at what's going on, but she's visibly distressed when he tries to turn her away. he knows she's a spy for someone, but he can also tell it's not of her free will. he figures he can at least let her stay long enough to make it seem like she put in an effort. they get to drinking; they get to chatting. she doesn't admit anything outright, but he knows enough about autumn to put some pieces together. tamlin is noble and fair and has nothing to lose. he asks, would you like to come to spring with me? and in asking, he feels something he has not felt for a long time stir in him. it flees so quickly he can't be sure it was there at all.

this is a gamble for iphigenia, obviously—and she has heard plenty about this high lord. she's too young to have lived through the disparagement of him and the youngest vanserra, but she's heard rumors passed down, and she's heard plenty about his siding with hybern. she ultimately figures at the very least, he's her best shot at ever leaving the forest house. she can figure out getting away from him later. so she says yes, but they have to leave right now, before lord emile can intercede, before the high lord notices her missing. tamlin is like not at all concerned about the threat of them, but it's not like he wants to be here for [insert whatever i come up with to get him to autumn overnight], so they dip out. emile notices. tries to stop him at the border. tamlin just flat out decks emile and keeps it pushin. iphigenia's like holy shit that was hot maybe i'll stick with him for now. hopefully emile is smart enough to fake her death to avoid beron's wrath at his spectacular failure—or smart enough to get drunk and go to eris so he can.

and then ultimately, iphigenia is just a really good balance for tamlin. she's well-spoken and courtly; she's savvy and intelligent. she can take up for him socially in a way that's similar to the role lucien embodied. in her is also like ... an opportunity to do things right this time. an opportunity to reconnect with who he once was: dependable, loyal, well-meaning, dutiful, good. for iphigenia, tamlin is just like a shock to the system. even down bad as he is when they meet, he shows her more respect and courtesy than she ever knew at the forest house. he treats her—not even like a lady, as she remembers from her youth, but like a person. she has all these preconceptions not only of how high lords act but how they will treat her, and he dismantles all of them one by one. also he canonically munches box like a starving man and that would be really healing for her too, since she has really only ever known sex as pain and performance and the prioritization of someone else's pleasure above her own

Obsessed with how Claudia and Soren view magic.

Claudia views magic as something amazing and special, even dark magic despite having to ‘harvest’ from living creatures in order to use it. Because in the end how could something that helps her friends and family be bad? How could something that saved an entire kingdom from starvation be evil?

Soren meanwhile doesn’t care about dark magic vs primal magic. In his eyes Dark magic can be used for immense good just as much as Primal magic can be used for horrific evils. At the end of the day all magic has ever done is divide people and cause years of suffering.

But they are both such hypocrites (affectionate).

Claudia views dark magic as a gift, something to take pride in having. But when she is finally broken down she reflects back she feels disgusted at herself for viewing living creatures as parts. Then when pushed into a dangerous situation she cried out “Don’t make me! Don’t make me do dark magic!”

Soren believes the world would be better without magic at all. Yet he turned to it, he looked his father in his eyes and said “You have your other way! Dark magic.” Not caring that Viren explained the original spell was a primal spell and the new spell would require a terrible sacrifice.
