this valentine’s day i would like to profess my undying, ardent love for the callistephus chinensis (china aster)! the flower that contributed to me giving myself my name!!

not only are they a part of the (superior in my opinion) family of asteraceae, but also the genus’ (callistephus) etymology is derived from the greek words “kalli-” meaning “beautiful” and “stephos” meaning crown. they have beautiful chrysanthemum-esque blooms and come in all sorts of colours (my favourites being purple and white).

straying away from taxonomy a bit, asters in general are one of the birth flowers for september (my birth month!). they symbolise hope, faith and wisdom. and according to greek mythology, astraea (“star maiden”: goddess of purity, justice and innocence) cried because there weren't enough stars in the sky and when her tears hit the earth, they caused asters to bloom! continuing to follow the greek myth, she was the last goddess to live amongst the humans after the golden age, symbolising the decline of hope for humanity along with the decline of the ages. she left and became the constellation virgo i believe!

some more fun fun facts, asters have a most frequently observed number of n = 9 haploid chromosomes (2n = 18 for diploid). the numerology of the word “aster” also happens to be nine and guess what! september is the 9th month of the year! is it obvious i really like the number 9? almost as much as i love asters <3

Full disclosure, I am kind of drunk right now and a friend I was hanging with tonight asked me to write this so I decided to give it a go. This is for you @red-september-virgo! It kind of took on a life of its own. Please tell me if it's terrible so I can find out tomorrow, for scientific purposes.

Sirius Black was a man of many talents. He'd always breazed through his schoolwork without a care in the world, he was a star Quidditch Player and he was easily able to charm the pants off just about any woman (or man) he wanted to. One thing he wasn't particularly good at, however, was commitment.

Apart from his best friend James Potter, very few people were able to capture his attention for more than a night at a time. Throughout his years at Hogwarts he'd developed quite a promiscuous reputation, one that continued to follow him around even after he graduated. It was a rarity to be able to be cared for by Sirius Black. A rarity and a challenge that many people tried and failed to succeed at. That was, until he met you.

You were like may of his other conquests, beautiful, confident, intelligent. You first met during a night out at a pub in London.

It was loud and busy and you'd both had far too much to drink. He'd talked you up with he same lines that he always used. A subtle smirk in your direction, a brushing of arms, a sly "have we met before? Surely i'd remember a face this beautiful".

And just like clockwork, you fell into each other's arms, the same way all the other's did. Slow and tender and then all at once. He brought you back to his apartment for the night, the one he'd bought using the inheritance from his Uncle Alphard. And by the morning, you were gone.

However, something about you lingered. Maybe it was the scent of your perfume on his pillowcase or the hairpin you left on his dresser. Whatever it was, he couldn't seem to get you out of his head.

He'd visited James and Lily later that day. They were settled, living in a quiet apartment on the edge of town. Lily was heavily pregnant. She looked as though she was ready to burst at any moment, however, James was somehow the calmest Sirius had ever seen him.

He plopped down on his best mate's sofa, a cup of tea in hand and uttered the words James was sure he'd never hear from his best friend's mouth.

"I can't stop thinking about her."

Lily was so excited she seemed almost ready to collapse. James just stared at him in awe.

"You can't be serious mate!"

Sirius just smirked. "I think you'll find I am. And I'm not joking about the girl either."

James rolled his eyes and punched his friend affectionately in the shoulder.

"Well, we'll just have to find her then, won't we?"

Lily sat down in an armchair at his side.

"What do you know about her?"

Sirius shrugged. "Not much. All I know is that her name is Y/N."

James sighed. "I suppose that's as good a place as any to start."

First, they'd looked through the phone book, scanning the pages for any girl with your name in London. They'd called about a dozen numbers with no success. It was certainly a long shot without a last name.

Sirius had also spent every night he could in that bar, hoping you'd miraculously show up again, but to no avail. On the fifth day, Sirius had approached the bar tender, a large guy named Ted with a long grey beard. He told him that you were a frequent guest a few years ago. That you and a group of five friends would often come and spend your weekends drinking and laughing but your visits had dwindled over the years. He didn't know your last name but he knew the type of whiskey you liked. It was a paricular brew that was only sold in select stores around the city.

Sirius' next move was to visit those and see if he could find another lead. However, it was a dead end. Those bottle shops had many guests and the owners could never seem to place a face.

It was two weeks later that Sirius began to lose hope. After weeks of searching, he was sure he was never going to find you.

It wasn't until a few nights later that fate seemed work it's magic. Sirius, Remus and Peter were on their way back from an Order meeting. Everything had grown grim in recent months. The threats of the Death Eater attacks loomed over their heads like a constant lingering rain-cloud.

Sirius had used the search as a distraction. He tried to bury himself in in this dream to take his mind off the horrors that were occuring in the world around him. The world was a dark place to live and no one, wizard or muggle seemed truly safe.

The streets were quiet as they walked home. Usually Sirius would've taken his motorcycle but it had been so long since he'd had a chance to see his friends that the idea of even an extra few moments together, walking through the quiet London streets was more than welcome.

They were chattering casually among themselves when a flash of light came at them, seemingly from nowhere. Sirius skirted to his left, looking for the asailant when a second flash of green missed them by a short margin.

Adreneline coursed through him as he moved, grabbing Remus by the sleeve of his shirt and pulling him behind a nearby building. He could hear the cracks of spells hitting the bricks around them as four Death Eater's emerged from the surrounding darkness.

Sirius had no idea who tipped them off to their location that night but he was more than glad that they' followed the three of them away from the Order meeting and not James. God knows what could have happened with Lily at home, heavily pregnant and waiting for her husband to return.

With that thought in mind, Sirius jumped bravely from his shelter, raising his wand and firing towards the asailants. Remus was quick to follow, brandishing his wand between shaking fingers, ready to deflect whatever spells were sent his way.

The duel lasted nearly 10 minutes, colours flying through the air in every which direction. He managed to hit one of them with a stupify that sent him flying backwards towards the concrete building behind him. He hit the wall with a thud and his buddy turned his attention directly towards Sirius.

The man only smirked as he lifted his wand.

Back and forth they went, sending jetstreams of light towards each other in a beautiful and deadly mirage of colour. Sirius deflected and ducked and dodged as the Death Eater approached him.

It was only a moment that he was caught of guard, a moment of distraction as Remus cried out somehwere to his left. A blaze of red light flickered like fireworks across the sky, hitting him directly in the chest. And suddenly he was flying. Sailing through the air and crashing back down onto the cobblestone below.

"Sirius!" he heard Remus' voice call as the world around him went dark.

The first thing he noticed when he awoke, was the feeling of a hand stroking his own.

The next was the ache. The painful pulsating that radiated through his skull.

He blinked slowly, the dark world steadily revealing itself to him in soft bursts of colour. As awareness found it's way back to him, he realised the hand holding his was Lily's.

She was seated to his left, hand clutched in her own. On the right, he noticed James, his dark hair messy and bags framing his normally enthusiastic eyes. It seemed a while since he'd slept.

"Hey, Pads. Welcome back."

James' voice was soft and tender, moreso than he'd ever heard from the man.

"How are you feeling?" Lily followed.

It was at that moment that he was finally able to get a good look at the room around him. The stark white walls and paper-thin bedsheets alerted him to the fact that he must have been at St-Mungos.

"I-I'm okay, I think," his voice was a mere rasp, a fragment of what it usually was and Lily smiled down at him pitifully, reaching out a hand to stroke back some of his long, black hair.

"What happened?"

James was the one to respond, clearing his throat like he was trying not to get choked up.

"You, Moony and Wormtail were attacked by Death Eaters on the way back from a meeting with the Order," James explained softly.

"It all happened so fast. Wormy said they came out of nowhere. You put up a good fight but one of them got the jump on you. Moony apparated you here before they were able to do any real damage but you've been out of it for a while."

Sirius frowned. "How long is a while?"

"Around two days," Lily supplied. "The healers here told us you'd be fine but we were starting to get worried."

"Well I'm just fine, I promise," Sirius did his best to reassure them, but his weak and wavering voice didn't do much to help his case.

It was then that the door of his hospital room swung open and the aforementioned Healer stepped through the doorway.

"Ah, there he is. Nice to see you awake, Mr Black."

The words were soft and playful but they made Sirius' jaw drop. His eyes widened and he froze as if he'd been petrified by the basilisk itself. Lily frowned in concern as James started confusedly between his friend and the woman in the doorway.

After a moment, Sirius finally spoke.

"I-it's you."

A small smile adorned your face.

"Nice to see you too." You stepped forward, potion bottle in hand as you moved to examine the patient.

James still looked confused. "Sirius, this is Healer Y/L/N. She's been taking care of you for the last few days."

"Do you know each other?" Lily chimed in.

Sirius cleared his throat, suddenly embarassed. Of all the places he thought the two of you would meet again, a hospital room at St Mungo's wasn't one of them.

You just smiled, a smile so soft and genuine that it made Sirius' heart race right then and there.

"I think we may have crossed paths before."

"I've been looking for you," Sirius blirted, unable to stop himself.

You raised a brow. "You have?"

"Yes!" he continued. "Ever since you left that morning. I've wanted to find you. I just couldn't seem to get you out of my head."

"Is that right?" you muttered, doing your best to stay proffessional but even laying there in a hospital bed, Sirius Black was still able to make you blush.

"Yes," he looked between his two friends who were sitting bewildered at his sides.

"Could I get a little help here please?"

Lily looked worried. "Sirius, are you sure you're okay to-"

He rolled his eyes. "Yes, for merlin's sake, I'm fine. I can't very well have this conversation lying down now, can I? It's extremely emmasculating."

You couldn't help the chuckle that escaped you as Sirius moved to push himself up and with the help of Lily and James, managed to lift himself into a seated position.

"I wanted this to be better," he mumbled. "I had it all planned out in my head. When I saw you again, I was going to have flowers and a speech prepared and everything. But I guess it's better just to ask now."

"Ask me what?" you queeried, uncertainly.

"Ask you out on a date. A real one, preferably. Not just one that ends in my apartment."

He looked up at you hopefully, as you paused for a moment, trying to process all that had happened. Then a smile slowly painted your lips.

"I'll tell you what," you responded. "If you be a good patient for the next few days, and take all your potions with no complaints, then I'll go on a date with you once you're out of here."

"Deal," he stated enthusiastically. Then he reached out his hand. "Okay, come on. Let's get this over with."

You chuckled lightly as you uncapped and handed him the potion.

He held it for a moment, grinning at you goofily. "You know, I never thought I'd say this, but I actually feel that I should be thanking those Death-Eaters."

James barked out a laugh, looking between you and his friend. "I'm sure you won't be thinking that anymore, mate, after you've tasted that potion."

The Descendant is a huge part to guess when one will marry as it is the start of the 7H. Not only the sign but it's Ruler. Looking our Ruler on the Descendant/ 7H will indicate when we marry, but also who we will marry. Take only traditional rulers.

The House where your Venus is usually tells us around the time we start dating, and who we are most likely to date. It is still important to look at that placement as it can indicates around what age we can meet our Future Spouse.

‧₊˚✩彡 Planets and their Returns

Looking at the rulers here are important and I will explain after. First looking at our Chart Ruler is the key point. Look at the ruler on your rising sign. Look also at the ruler on your 7H. Check also the one on your 2H, since it is also a house that can indicate much about our Future Spouse. The 11H can also be quite important. 7H trines 11H, and the 11H also represents our wishes and dreams in some sort, so it could then also represent the ideal partner. Looking at those Houses' rulers will help us, since based on those we will look at those planets' returns. Take only traditional rulers.

‧₊˚✩彡 Jupiter & Venus

It is a known thing that these two planets are used for marriage indicators, but also Future Spouse. Jupiter is usually used to represent the Husband, while Venus will represent the Wife. Look at the one you are interested in. If you are interested in men, then look at your Jupiter returns. Same with Venus if you are interested in Women.

Using Solar Return Charts is a must here. Solar Return Charts are used to know what will happen during every solar return (so every birthday). It will describe to us the most important events of our year. So of course there are marriage aspects.

ʚɞ My best friend has Virgo DSC, so ruled by Mercury. She also has her Moon in her 7H. She will marry young but not too much (because of Virgo), and she will probably marry her first boyfriend. She will not have much struggles in relationships. Funny thing, she has Libra moon in her 7H, and her bf is a Libra moon. Her Venus is in the 6H, she will maybe starts dating later in life but not too old, maybe in her 20's, but she will be careful bout who she will date. She will also take her time in dating people. That's indeed what happened. Now let's look at the different Rulers in her Natal Chart: her Chart's Ruler is Jupiter, her 7H's Ruler is Mercury, her 2H Ruler is Venus, and her 11H's Ruler is Saturn. So looking at those planets, she could get married during her Mercury, or Venus, Jupiter or Saturn Return. Her Jupiter Return happened in 2023, she was too young to marry but she indeed met her FS that year! They are currently dating. Now to exactly see the year it would happen, we are also gonna check the Solar Returns. She has indicators of marriage in 2026-2027 SRC and in 2027-2028, so that could happen in 2027 mostly. She has a Mercury Return on August 29 2027 and a Venus Return on August 11 2027. She could indeed either get proposed to in August 2027 or get married. But this could also happen in 2028, with the Mercury Return on August 21 2028 and Venus Return on September 22 2028. So for her, it would be either August 2027 or August-September 2028. She indeed has her Saturn return on 2029 but her Solar Return doesn't indicate a marriage that year.

ʚɞ My Brother has Taurus DSC, so ruled by Venus. He has his North Node in his 7H, meaning his purpose in this lifetime is to learn about relationships, and being in Taurus is to know a stable love life. So marrying could be part of this. There aren't indicators of marrying young or late. His Venus is in Sagittarius so it can be in his 20's, but conjuncting Pluto and Mercury, this could be later in his 20's. In the end, it's young, but not "too young". So I guess between his 25 yo to his 30 yo. He started dating when he was a teenager, which makes sense with Mercury in Sagittarius conjuncting Venus. Since his 2H is in Sagittarius, the ruler is Jupiter, and his 11H is in Virgo, ruled by Mercury. So we will look at his Venus, Mercury and Jupiter's return! My brother is a tough one since there are signs over a lot of years, such as 2027 and 2028. Both years could be a potential year to marry for him. On 2027, he has a Mercury and Venus return, but also his Jupiter return. On his Solar Return this year, he has Neptune and Groom on his 7H, and the DSC is in Pisces, so the ruler (non traditional) is in the 7H, which is a good sign. Otherwise, in 2028 his Jupiter returns is ending, he also has a Mercury and a Venus return, and in his SRC this year Uranus 7H indicate a big transformation there, DSC is in Taurus, being ruled by Venus, which conjunct Juno, Part of Fortune and Jupiter. Also the huge stellium in 1H really tells me this year could indicate a huge transformation of identity for him. If it is in 2027, the wedding could happen between October to December 2027. If it is in 2028, it could happen between August and December 2028.

ʚɞ My aunt has Taurus DSC too, so also ruled by Venus. Her 7h is empty too. She has Jupiter Leo in 9H, she started dating in high school, and mostly dates classmates or colleagues. She also has it in Leo, she was quite popular and many people had a crush on her. She has 2H in Sagittarius, so ruled by Jupiter. And her 11H is in Libra, so ruled again by Venus. So we will look at her Venus, Jupiter, and Solar Return Charts mostly. The thing is, she does have indicators of marrying this year, and she has a Venus Return also this year, and she IS getting married this year! She also has indicators in 2025 in her Solar Return Chart though, and also has a Venus Return, and her Solar Return is from August 2025 to August 2026, she also has a Jupiter return in 2026. In the end, she has potential until 2026, so things can happen still! They can marry a second time or something else can happen!

ʚɞ My DSC is in Aries, so ruled by Mars. In my 7H, I have my Saturn and Jupiter there. Because of the mix of those two planets, that makes me marry young yet not too much, so between 25 to 30 yo max. The fact that my DSC is in Aries truly indicates marrying fast, which means once I am with my FS, everything will go fast...🥲 My Jupiter is in my 7H and it is important for me since I am interested in men. It makes me marry quite young in a way, but it also brings me luck in marriage. I started dating indeed when I was around college years. My 2H is in Scorpio, ruled by Mars. My 7H is ruled also by Mars. And my 11H is ruled by Leo so ruled by the Sun. So we will look mostly on the Mars Returns, but also Jupiter, as you have to check it if you are interested in men. But also my Solar Return, which seems to be very important in my cases. Looking at my Mars return, I have a return in 2025 & 2027 for the next years. My Jupiter Return took place in 2023, I indeed met my FS back in 2022, a few month before the Jupiter Return. And during this return I realized I was in love with him. For my Solar Returns, I have potential of marriage in 2025 AND 2027. Since I also have Boda in Gemini, I could actually marry twice with the same person. So my marriage could happen in 2025 & 2027.

ʚɞ My's FS's DSC is in Scorpio so ruled by Mars traditionally. In his 7H, he has his North Node, which indicates he will learn lessons related to relationships in this lifetimes, like my brother. And so one of his purposes in this lifetime is to understand relationships, so marriage could be part of his destiny. Having Scorpio DSC could mean my FS's will marry later in life as he could have been hurt in the past with relationships. It can have created trauma to him, so it can cause delay. His Venus is in the 10H in Pisces. He started dating around the time he was 22-24 years old, mostly classmates in college years, but he was taking things slow and romantic. He is into long term things usually and do not fool around when he is with someone. He dates to marry. His Venus being in Pisces, we will look at his Jupiter returns too. Moving on to his 2H, it is in Gemini so Mercury ruled. We already talked about his 7H. And his 11H is in Pisces so, again, Jupiter ruled traditionally. So for him, we are going to look at his Mars Return, Jupiter Return, Mercury Return and still the Venus return because he is interested in women. He does have potential for Marriage in 2025, he has a huge indicators in his Solar Return chart for this year. He also has a Mercury, Venus and Mars return this year. He has potential too in 2026 but also 2027 all mixed together. So from 2025 to 2027. His Jupiter Return is in 2029, but he has no other indicators for this year.
