By the time they got back up to the castle, Sirius had made his way to Remus. Neither of them looked happy. 

Regulus glowered at Sirius. 

“You shouldn’t have run off like that,” he growled. 

“I needed to tell Remus what was going on,” Sirius countered, getting to his feet. 

“No, you should have waited for us so we could come and tell Remus together,” Regulus replied as evenly as he could. 

“Just exactly which side are you on, Reggie? Because it’s being to sound like you’re on that fucking Dryads side when you should be on ours. Just what exactly happened in that wood when she knocked us all out? What did she say to you?”

So far, they’d left him alone and not forced him to reveal anything. Even if he wanted to tell them what happened, he couldn't. Not without putting their lives at risk, and according to Thalira, the entire castle's lives as well. 

“If I wasn’t on your side, Sirius, do you really think I’d be up here in this bloody awful dorm room?!” 

“You seem to have made yourself at home in this ‘bloody awful dorm room’. Tell me, Regulus, when was the last time you actually slept in your actual bed? You won’t take James down there, will you? It’s always up here so that Mummy and Daddy don’t find out about your secret boyfriend. It’s funny, though, Regulus, how scared you are to take James down to the Slytherin dormitories, but you’ll walk down corridors together. Exactly how many times have you been seen together out there? When was the last time Mummy dearest sent you an owl?”

Regulus frowned as he took in Sirius’s words. It was true he didn’t want to take James down to the Slytherin common room. It was full of snakes after all, and any one of them would be more than happy to write a letter to his mother. It was also true that he’d stopped being careful in the hallways. He’d openly held James’s hand while they were running here, there, and everywhere. When had he stopped being careful? Then there were the owls. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had one. Not for weeks. 

He met Sirius’s eyes. 

“She knows.”
