Smoking

I have an odd relationship with it

I've never smoked myself and doubt I ever will

I hate the idea of becoming so dependent on something that your body needs it to survive, especially unhealthy things like smoking, vaping, drugs, etc

But smoking holds memories for me, good memories

It mostly the smell

My grandma back in my home country smokes

When I lived there one of the first things I smelt when I visited her at night was the smell of her cigarettes

I love my grandma, she is the sweetest person I know, she loves me and my siblings and always spoils us rotten like a typical Hispanic grandma

So now that I live in the US, and had to leave her behind

The smell of cigarettes is comforting

It reminds me of home

I miss home

I want to go back but I can't

So know Everytime I see someone smoking a cigarette I can't help but to lean towards them

I just want to smell home again

I want to be a kid again and run happily to my grandma's house and greet her with a hug as she burns out her cigarette

I want to be in the churascos we had every other weekend that always ended with some of the adults smoking and drinking beers and having fun conversations or teaching us kids how to play loba

I miss home and one of the only ways I can feel like I'm there again is by the smell of cigarettes

I don't want to smoke, I never want to fall into the hands of addiction, but I still yearn for that feeling of being home
