Usually, when I think of the living food in Danny Phantom, I have to carefully not let myself get caught up in the implications of food coming to life and—judging by how often the hotdogs are described as waging war—potentially attaining sentience... only to for some reason be completely and callously disregarded as beings by our main characters, and- ANYWAY, the point I'm actually trying to get to here is: it's now occurred to me that, all that other stuff aside, if you look at it another way, the living (-dead?) food is kind of nice/interesting, because it's a food problem on par with, like, extreme food poisoning that could kill you, but treated as goofy and fun and a nothingburger in comparison to everything else happening in the story. I'm suddenly finding I can interpret it as sort of soothing, in that sense. The living food as metaphor for the bacterial/fungal/viral load in contaminated food, but instead of being invisible and then making you horrendously sick unexpectedly, it's bright glowing green, unignorable, and ripe for joking about. Something something absurdity and humor as coping strategy for the fear of food contamination and food-borne illness.

hahahaha yes definitely. azriel knows what eris looks like when he's being genuine versus just entertaining someone out of obligation, and if he spots genuineness being brought out by another fae, even platonically, it triggers those feelings of not being good enough—of that faerie having something that azriel is fundamentally lacking. but if they're that close to one another, i think those feelings are just like unwelcome vestiges of an insecurity he recognizes as such instead of a truth coming back to haunt him. he sort of clocks it for what it is: unfounded fear that eris will leave him. so he soothes himself pretty easily. probably listens in on the conversation with his shadows, then seeks reassurance through sex later on. if they're this close, i think eris recognized what was going on the moment he saw the darkness pool deeper behind the fae he was talking to and is endeared by the subsequent claiming. it shows him that azriel is afraid of losing him, which is such a novel experience in his relationships. so the sex they have lasts a very, very long time, and they say everything they need to in the whispers of their touch against each other's skin. could even be the push they need to feel fully established with each other. and all because eris smiled at someone he was speaking to in casual conversation. because they are normal :•)
