Rent-A-Boyfriend || SVT
💘 a rental romance series 💘
divider by @cafekitsune
Thank you for 500 followers (I still can’t believe it 🥹)! To celebrate, I’m dropping something special—a series that started with a single unhinged thought:
what if you could rent a fake boyfriend from an app... and accidentally caught feelings?
🌟 COMING SOON (3rd July): I’ll be posting each one as a standalone drabble—but all under the same theme, so you can binge your faves or pick your bias. Hope you enjoy renting them as much as I enjoy writing them 💌
rent a boyfriend here! | join my permanent taglist
Choi Seungcheol
Your parents wanted someone respectable on your arm at a high-stakes gala. You expected charm, maybe a few photo ops—but Seungcheol treats the event like a high-stakes operation. He’s subtly steering you through crowds, keeping a protective eye on your every move. It was supposed to be for show—but the way he moves around you says otherwise.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Yoon Jeonghan
What starts as a petty plan to provoke your situationship quickly spirals when Jeonghan decides he has his own agenda. He’s charming, persuasive, and far too good at playing the part—but he doesn’t stop there. Suddenly, he’s helping with little schemes, showing up uninvited (but never unwelcome), and somehow ends up making himself at home in your life—and on your couch.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Joshua Hong
You needed someone who could blend in at your cousin’s picture-perfect wedding—filled with watchful eyes and whispered prayers. Joshua fits the mold effortlessly, all soft smiles and perfect manners. But in between performances, his glances linger, his concern feels too genuine, and suddenly, you’re not sure what’s part of the act—and what isn’t.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Wen Junhui
A language barrier seemed like the easiest way to avoid awkward small talk during your solo trip abroad. Jun arrives looking like a dream, translator app in hand and eyes full of curiosity. You expect distance—but instead, you find connection in shared silences, quiet gestures, and the way he always seems to be right by your side.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Kwon Soonyoung
You hired him to be someone else’s fake boyfriendyour best friend, who deserved a reminder of what good love looks like. Hoshi steps in like a rom-com lead, full of energy and affection. The only problem? He thinks you’re the one he’s supposed to impress. And somehow, along the way… he starts to.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Jeon Wonwoo
A harmless lie at work spirals when your coworkers demand proof of your made-up boyfriend. Enter Wonwoo, quiet and composed, playing the part a little too well. He blends into the scene with soft smiles and subtle touches—until the night takes a turn and he draws the line between fake and real with unexpected conviction.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Lee Jihoon
Showing up alone would’ve been too sad, but bringing a boyfriend would’ve been too obvious. That’s why you brought an ex—specifically, a painfully attractive one. Woozi plays the role with precision: cold, indifferent, just the right amount of sting. But then he starts going off-script, and the lines between act and intention start to blur.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Xu Minghao
Your boss wouldn’t stop bragging about their plus-one for the art gala, so you decided to show up with your own. Minghao arrives sharp-tongued and sharper dressed, casually dissecting every sculpture and sparking debates like it’s his job. Somewhere between holding your hand and calling your boss pretentious, he becomes the main exhibit of the night.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Kim Mingyu
You signed up for a fake-dating challenge as a joke, something light and temporary. Mingyu shows up with the whole boyfriend starter pack—cooking, cleaning, carrying your groceries like a pro. It’s all fun and games… until the cameras are off and people start asking when the two of you became real.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Lee Seokmin
You hired him to get your mom off your back. DK is everything she could want—thoughtful, helpful, maybe a little too perfect. He wins over your family like it’s second nature and somehow slips into your life with ease. You tell yourself it’s all pretend, but the little notes he leaves behind suggest otherwise.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Boo Seungkwan
What started as a plan to one-up your ex turned theatrical fast. Seungkwan doesn’t just play the role—he builds an entire storyline, complete with shared memories and inside jokes you didn’t know you had. He’s loud, proud, and fully committed. But beneath all the drama and performance, you start to catch moments that feel a little too genuine to be fake.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Choi Vernon
You weren’t expecting much when you booked the cheapest option on the app. Vernon is quiet, hands in his pockets, and doesn’t try too hard. But there’s something about the way he listens—really listens. Every so often, he says something that cuts through the noise, soft and sincere, and makes you forget this isn’t supposed to mean anything.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]
Lee Chan
You just wanted practice—a rehearsal date to work through the nerves before the real thing. He arrives with cue cards, a practiced smile, and way too much enthusiasm. At first, it’s all predictable, even a little awkward. But somewhere between his over-prepared charm and unexpected confidence, he flips the script—and suddenly, it feels less like a test run and more like the real deal.
rent here: [Coming soon to your doorstep]

won't make my mama proud
read on ao3
Buck's just gonna say it. He's not gonna be cagey about it. He's not gonna make it weird. Everyone important doesn't need an announcement, they'll - they'll see him, and they'll understand, and Buck will get to enjoy himself.
His parents are the wildcard.
"E- Buck," his mom starts, brow furrowed as she looks at the seating chart. She's getting better at catching herself, and it's small fries but it's not nothing. "Why did George get moved to table seven?"
He'd been a little giddy, sitting at Maddie's kitchen table with the seating chart out, the tips of his ears bright red and the smile refusing to leave his face, basking in the little hip-shake arm-wave dance Maddie'd done when he asked if she could fit a plus one in.
Buck honestly couldn't remember who they'd moved to make it work, but it'd made the most sense - Tommy knew Bobby and Athena, he knew Karen and Eddie and Marisol, he wouldn't have to sit with a table of strangers who didn't even know a "George" anyway.
His mom's eyes flit to the extended family table, where Tommy has been tucked in between Eddie and Denny. He'd made the place card himself, intent to match the script from the printers, tongue sticking out as he swooped the 'Y' out in gold Sharpie on a piece of leftover cardstock cut to match.
"Uh - I'm bringing a date, after all," Buck says, and he watches his mom slide through names, a mental list of people she vaguely knows of. The Marisol thing had been a point of contention - extended family meant family to Margaret and Phillip Buckley, and they'd already made an exception to let Chim include Eddie and his son at that particular table. They'd acted like the relationship to the bride and the groom was going to be hovering over the top of each table. So. She knows the name Marisol. She knows Athena and Bobby. Knows Karen.
The list of potential dates is growing smaller by the minute and clearly it's not computing.
He's just gonna rip the bandaid off. "His name is Tommy. My date."
Once upon a time, he'd have taken an opportunity like this to make sure he was the center of fucking attention for as long as he possibly could be. Maybe drive home the point that his parents didn't know him as well as they claimed they did. Definitely press their buttons, see if he could invite a reaction out of them.
Now he waves off his mother's confused silence. "I already ran it by Maddie and Chim, they know him." Sort of. It's too complicated to explain to his parents, right now. Maybe if the dancing goes well, at the reception. Maybe once he's snuck about fifty more kisses in.
"Buck, you can't bring a friend as a plus one to your sister's wedding."
He doesn't see why not, really, but that's - very much not the point. Oh. Oh yeah, that's a little painful. He gets why Tommy'd slammed the brakes, now, when he'd stuck his foot in it.
"Good thing he's my date, then, mom."
Even after all this time, he always feels like he's one bad interaction away from laying into his parents, but he tempers it. This isn't really about him, or them. This is about Maddie's wedding, which is two days away and doesn't need the distraction of the brides family having it out. Again.
"What do you mean?" she asks, and - her defensive voice always sounds like she's expecting a direct attack, teeth at her jugular and she's too frail to stop it. He's always hated the way she does that, because it always makes her sound like the victim of a heinous crime when half the time she's just trying to deny something she's been accused of.
Buck takes a deep breath through his nose. "Tommy. He's my date to the wedding. Once we've all eaten and toasted at the reception he'll be the one I'm getting drinks for, he'll be the one I'm introducing to Maddie's work friends, he'll be the one I'm dancing with." He'll be the one I'm going home with, Buck doesn't say, even if he really fucking wants to. He'd gotten a dick pic for the first time last night that had rocked his entire fucking world and he's very ready to explore the realities of finally understanding he's attracted to the male form in a sexual way.
She goes through what seems like all the stages of grief at once. Not unexpected, but still kinda shitty to witness. But she's - they're both better. His parents are trying. He'll give them that. She shores up a PTA mom smile.
"Oh. I didn't know you... Well I just didn't know."
"It's new," he says, because now doesn't feel like the time to tell her he's been analyzing old friendships for weeks now, that his penchant for trying to create deep bonds with men he admires has taken on a new meaning to him. He doesn't want to get into the conversation he'd had with Tommy two nights ago, Tommy laughing but understanding as Buck regaled him with the tale of how he'd followed the varsity kicker around like a lost puppy for most of his junior year and he'd only just figured out why. "Tommy used to work at the 118, though, so he's not exactly a stranger."
He doesn't really feel like giving her more than that. It's new to him, too, it's new and fragile and it's settling warm in his gut, this feeling like he finally knows the way to make a proper chili is to add some unsweetened cocoa powder. The recipe works without it but it was never quite right, until the secret ingredient got thrown in.
"You'll have to introduce us," his mom says, and Buck thinks about it - about the way Tommy will internalize the confused looks his parents try to hide, and the way Buck will want to curl tighter around him because of it, the way he'll want to shrink under the force of his parents never quite getting him and how he knows, he knows Tommy won't let him shrink.
"Yeah," he says, and his mind goes back to thinking of Tommy in a suit.
Tommy with a button undone that turns into three by the third song, Tommy fiddling with cufflinks, Tommy with suspenders, Tommy's ass in a pair of crisp tapered trousers. Buck wonders if he's an ankle sock with dress shoes guy.
His mom turns back to her trove of little gift bags, plastic crinkling as she ties another finished one off. He's - it feels a bit like he's waiting for a shoe to drop, sitting there next to her as her hands continue to pull jute twine from its roll in even six inch lengths, cutting them, twisting bags and tying them off.
Their hands meet the next time he slides a pile of filled bags over to her -- a bubble jar, three Jordan almonds, four Kisses, a quarter inch of crinkle paper on the bottom. Buck goes to move his hand back and her soft, wrinkled hand reaches out to pat his knuckles before she returns to her twine.
-----
He picks up Tommy's call when he's halfway home. "Hey," he says, and he knows Tommy can hear the smile in his voice. He can't bring himself to care.
"Hey. Did you already eat at your sisters?"
"No, my parents took Jee out to dinner so Maddie and Chim could have the night before Maddie imposes her weird twenty-four hour no contact rule."
"You Buckley's," Tommy says, and there's something fond in his voice that makes Buck's heart squeeze, just a bit. "I know I'll see you tomorrow night, but I thought, if you're not busy --."
"I'm not busy," Buck interrupts, and Tommy's little chuff of a laugh echoes back at him.
"Maybe I'm about to ask you to detail my truck for me."
Buck's still trying to find the right way to word his thoughts about armor-all and gear shafts when Tommy cuts across them.
"Low hanging fruit, Evan," he warns, even though he can't have possibly known what Buck was thinking.
"I was thinking about the twig, not the berries," Buck shoots back, and Tommy groans.
"You have sufficient evidence not to call it a twig."
"Which is why I was trying to compare it to the gear shift, before you derailed that train of thought."
"Do you wanna come over for dinner or not, Evan Buckley?"
Buck taps his thumbs on the steering wheel, does a little jig in his seat, tries not to smile so wide that he scares the driver next to him as he coasts to a stop at a red light.
"Are the berries on the menu?"
"The stick shift too, if you're lucky."
"This metaphor is getting a little murky."
"If you wanted to stop for shitty burgers I wouldn't mind," Tommy admits, voice softening, and Buck is already trying to plot out the best route to In-N-Out from here to Tommy's. "If you think of a way to make an Animal Style innuendo you are not getting into my pants tonight."
"I'll stick with the hot meat puns, then."
Tommy laughs, bright and loud, goofy like he can't quite control it, and Buck settles into his seat, flipping his blinker to get into the turn lane so he can double back a few blocks.
"You far enough away I can hop in the shower without telling you where I keep my hide-a-key?"
"Yeah, but maybe you should tell me anyway."
Tommy hums, and something settles under Buck's skin when Tommy gives him a frankly ridiculous set of instructions that no first responder is ever gonna follow in an emergency when they could just kick the door in, dispatch instructions be damned.
It's far too early in this, but Buck's pretty sure he's deep enough in this that it wouldn't weird him out if Tommy told him to keep the spare. He doesn't, and Buck doesn't mind, but it's there, in the back of his mind, that feeling like they're both in this for the long haul.
"Hey, I told my mom you're coming as my plus one," Buck says into the comfortable silence that drifts over the line. Tommy knows the bare minimum about his family, really, but he knows that's significant all the same.
"How did that...go?" And Buck keeps forgetting that Tommy wasn't always confidently out, that he's experienced the coming out conversation with a lot worse results than Buck's experienced, so far.
"She was mostly weirded out that you made George move to table seven," Buck jokes, because he's not sure he's fully unpacked how he feels about it yet, and Tommy - Tommy gets that.
"If I'm stepping on toes, I don't mind sitting with all the weird singles and estranged aunts, Evan," Tommy assures, for the twentieth time.
"You're sitting with the people I want you to be sitting with," Buck reminds him, and hopes he understands the part of that that Buck doesn't know how to say out loud yet.
"Noted," he says, that same tone as when he met Buck for coffee, a few weeks ago now, the weight of understanding the things between the lines.
"Go shower," Buck tells him, and tries not to let his imagination run too wild at the thought. "I'll see you in a bit."
Tommy doesn't immediately respond, and Buck can imagine him on the other side of the call, debating whether or not to make the dumb joke about detailing his gear stick himself. He clearly has better impulse control than Buck. "See you soon," he says after a beat, and hangs up before Buck can draw him back in.

So I just wanna ask u just does this look like a real happy healthy relationship and in love with each or just put on for show for the fans and why do I feel like she making it all about her again and reminded everyone who she with it feels micheal was forced in the pictures taking with her the red carpet photo she looked bored and annoyed cos michael not paying any attention he just look miserable but I bet if it was David standing there instead of anna his face would be beaming like the one Georgia posted of them 4 together micheal face is electric and see how he lean toward David that best friend goals and I just love seeing them together cos that when he at his most happiness place
Also I find it strange that Anna was left out in staged scene but David wife gerogia made appearance doesn't that strike u as odd and gerogia brought the plus one date a girl could have and it wasnt anna yet they call each other wife clearly not as close etc then David and Michael are it seems.
And did u notice in the scene with David and Tom hiddleson about the dog sitter initially could present as benign and then he and the dog get up to all kinds of hijinks and ultimately disrupt stuffy old Michael sheen boring life but for the better like why put that in the script maybe his life with anna is boring and only staying cos he feels he needs too for the young children what do u think of all this
From @amata-haan along with a screenshot of the group photo:
(Grouping all of these together since it seems we've got a bit to talk about here.)
So, the biggest point of discussion seems to be the group pic that Georgia posted, and I will put up a larger size of that for us to discuss:

When I saw that Georgia had posted this in an Insta story, of course my first thought was "Finally a picture of Michael and David together!" I think that was what we were all hoping for all night, to where it was almost glaring that we hadn't gotten one when the event ended (until Georgia's post, that is).
The second thing that came to mind is what you alluded to @moriarty-sisters, about this being a near repeat of what we've seen a few times before (first at the NTAs in 2021, and then the group photo Georgia posted on Michael's birthday, that appears to have been taken after Michael went to see Macbeth):

Every time, Georgia is on the right. Every time, she and Anna have the same tight smiles while Michael and David have huge grins on their faces. At this point, it feels intentional, because twice might be a coincidence, but three times is a plan. There are slight differences to the vibes in each picture--although Georgia looks like she knows a secret and Michael and David look like a very happy couple in every one of them--but last night's group pic was...something.
Which takes me to your comment @phantomstars24 about how Michael is holding AL. I was under the impression that he had his hand on her waist, but if he is touching her breast, I'm perplexed at that being her reaction. She looks stiff and like a deer caught in the headlights, and regardless of where Michael's hand is, it doesn't seem like that's a great way to look when your own boyfriend is touching you. Adding to the strange optics is the fact that Michael is actually leaning toward David in the picture and away from her. It looks like his arm/shoulder is pressing into David and there isn't a millimeter of space between them, yet he seems to be a mile away from Anna despite having an arm around her.
(And none of this is even touching on Georgia using the theme song from Friends in the Insta story for the group pic, which she had to know we would all notice...)
So yes, a lot of thoughts on the group pic, but overall delighted to see Michael and David looking so happy next to each other. Especially Michael, in stark contrast to how he looked in some of the other pictures.
Speaking of which...I briefly talked about Michael and AL at the BAFTAs yesterday here and here, so I will try not to repeat myself too much in this part of my answer. But what I think we are seeing is two things: Anna's fantasy of what she thinks her and Michael's relationship is, and the reality of what we saw at the BAFTAs.
I think in AL's mind, she and Michael were like Georgia and David. But if we are going to say that Georgia and David were very loving and sweet together on the red carpet yesterday--which they absolutely were, with the kiss they shared and David comforting Georgia when she was experiencing anxiety--then there is no way you can look at the pictures of Michael and Anna and see the same thing. Even without bringing GT/DT into it, there is a massive, marked difference between pictures of Michael with AL vs. pictures of him with literally anyone else (such as this pic with Hannah Waddingham).
Looking at Anna's pictures that she posted, every one of them seems to be about ownership, right down to the Insta story with the #mine hashtag (which again seems to be her copying Georgia, also on the night of an award ceremony). The vibe that I got was of a teenager who'd won a date with her favorite celebrity and took him to the prom. Ultimately, though, she looked out of place, and he looked uncomfortable with her, both of which are a remarkable feat after five years of a relationship.
The pictures also repeated themes we've seen before (AL has previously posted a picture of her kissing Michael's cheek where he looks equally withdrawn; the photo in the car on the way to the event is a copy of pictures Georgia has posted of her and David in the car on the way to events) and speak to that idea of pushing a certain narrative, despite neither one of them appearing to sell it very well.
To that end, and to your comments @lepqueen and @turquoisedata, I would agree with you that it looks like AL is trying to mark her territory. The problem is that Michael had more chemistry just talking with David in that opening BAFTAs sketch than he did with Anna the entire night, and she was frequently left looking like she had no idea what she was doing or why she was there. Another example of this is an Insta story she posted earlier today that again demonstrated her main interest in the relationship:

What's particularly noteworthy is the follow up Insta story on the right, which I couldn't believe she actually posted. I think that if you are fine and happy with the narrative you've put out, you are not going to be bothered by or salty about a comment like that, and AL clearly was. And all of this then casts at least some doubt that the pictures she posted are really telling the whole story. Just a recap of what we do know about last night (and if I am forgetting anything, someone please let me know):
- Anna was the only principal member of the cast who was not in the Staged-themed opening sketch, despite being in all three seasons of the show. - Anna was not seated next to Michael during the in person part of the opening sketch, despite there being no reason the producers couldn't have put her next to him even as a seat filler. - Georgia brought her friend Daisy Aitkens as a +1 and sat with her instead of Anna, leaving us with the above picture of AL sitting alone and staring straight ahead while in the background of a Michael J. Fox picture (that she is acting like is a picture of her with him, instead of her photobombing a picture of MJF with his wife). - During the show, the camera repeatedly cut to Michael in the audience when there was no reason to do so, but did not show Anna on camera once.
So yes, I think that if last night at the BAFTAs was somehow AL's attempt to mark her territory/assert her place in the UK acting industry, it did not seem to go over well. I think David and Georgia's relationship and Michael and David's relationship emerged even stronger than before, and unfortunately AL and Michael's relationship did not and does not compare.
My apologies for rambling on, as I never intended for this to get so long. As I've said before, this is all just my opinion, and I know I could be completely wrong, so I'm glad as always to hear from my followers with your thoughts. Thanks for writing in! x
#abbbieangel#moriarty-sisters#phantomstars24#lepqueen#amata-haan#reply post#michael sheen#welsh seduction machine#david tennant#soft scottish hipster gigolo#BAFTAs 2024#i also think AL referring to Michael as 'my partner' instead of by name in that follow up Insta story was A Choice#if you have to keep reminding people that someone is your partner#that's probably not a good sign#and the more she tries to look like she owns him the more obvious it is she doesn't#because how in the world can you take a relationship like this seriously#but i will leave it to my followers to make up their own minds#anna lundberg#relationships#long post#ineffable lovers#discourse

What nobody wants to admit is there’s a reason OFMD fandom has a big divide over how to interpret Izzy and it’s simply that Con is playing against the scripts.
Con DOES play Izzy like he and Ed have a profound warrior’s bond and their relationship was actually a positive thing up until Stede appeared and Izzy’s jealousy made him briefly go a little bit insane, but once he recognized that Ed truly needed to be with Stede to be happy Izzy was able to let go because his love for Ed is genuinely selfless. People who see that in Con’s performance aren’t wrong.
However this makes no sense as an interpretation of the actual STORY. The scripts write Izzy as someone whose “love” for Ed has been selfish and controlling and abusive (in ways that, yes, echo Ed’s relationship with his father) since long before Stede was in the picture, and is mostly based in the fact that he craves power and manipulating Ed is how he achieves and maintains a position of power – plus the whole deal has this creepy undercurrent of psychosexual obsession. This was obvious back in season one but there’s zero remaining ambiguity about it at this point now that the show literally had Izzy tell Ed “I’ve been terrible to you for years” and “it was me who needed Blackbeard.”
The way he’s written, Izzy has to let go of both his ambition for power AND his fucked up crush entirely before he can stop obsessively trying to control Ed’s life and be normal enough about him to start building an even remotely healthy relationship, which the two of them never had before. Both djenks and other writers have said this in interviews - what Izzy needed was not to realize Stede was good for Ed, it was to let go of his obsession with controlling his boss’ love life entirely before he even COULD realize that.
This contradiction isn’t Con’s fault, or really anyone’s. If you’re an actor it’s your job to come up with headcanons that make sense of your character’s motivations even if they’re not super clear in the scripts, and the scripts do not focus all that much on Izzy’s internal motivations. (It’s clear from his interviews that he got only vague high-level overviews from the writing team about their intentions for Izzy’s overall arc too, which is normal for a supporting character - not only has he mentioned scenes where he struggled to figure out the motivation on his own, he didn’t even know the show was gay for four episodes, meaning the writers and directors didn’t tell him about Izzy’s gay crush on Ed, the thing he plays as Izzy’s core motivation!) And it’s usually a good idea as an actor to come up with an interpretation that lets you sympathize with your character. So Con went with the most sympathetic read of Izzy he could come up with. It doesn’t make sense of the overall narrative arc of the show, but that’s not his job, his job is figuring out a motivation that gives him a foundation for feeling like he understands Izzy’s perspective in the scenes he’s playing.
So if you pay the most attention to Con’s performances and ignore the narrative framing of the scripts, you end up with basically the canyon read on Izzy’s character. If you pay the most attention to the story the scripts suggest and mostly ignore the performance, you end up with the non-canyon one where Izzy’s a really really bad guy up till s2e5 and he’s manipulative and emotionally abusive toward Ed. Neither one of those is really “canon Izzy.” They’re both present in canon and they directly contradict each other.
This is what led to the fandom getting incredibly weird. Because people most interested in Con’s performance take it as the primary lens through which they interpret the whole show - but it’s an interpretation that fundamentally cannot make sense of the story as a cohesive whole, so they keep running into cognitive dissonance, and they try to resolve it by coming up with increasingly contorted interpretations of the entire narrative arc of the show (including parts that aren’t even directly about Izzy) and getting angry when other people bring back the cognitive dissonance by pointing out how nonsensical those interpretations are.
People who prioritize the scripts as their main interpretive lens don’t have quite the same problem, because if they notice what’s going on in Con’s performance there’s an easy way to integrate it: assume that the way Con acts is expressing Izzy’s own point of view, BUT IZZY IS WRONG ABOUT ALL THAT. Izzy THINKS he really understands Ed but he doesn’t. Izzy THINKS his feelings for Ed are selfless love but a lot of abusers think that, it’s him lying to himself about his motives being benevolent. And the thing is, this angle makes Izzy look REALLY FASCINATING but also WAY WORSE than the basic read where he’s just being selfish, it turns him from an ambitious manipulative schemer with a weird little crush into a horrific obsessed stalker with a creepy daddy-knows-what’s-best-for-you complex about Ed, a grown-ass indigenous man who never asked his white employee to control his life “for his own good.”
It’s no wonder everyone’s fighting all the time.

Headshot AU:
So basically,
Lila is helping Chloe by giving her a place to stay, some money, and a shoulder to cry on.
Zoe is frantically calling her dad to try and figure out something that will let her stay and help Chloe.
Mr. Lee just got a call from his daughter, who is a full ocean away, about how her half-sister got disowned by her parents, then murdered and revived by the heroes. Oh, and also her half-sisters dad just tried to kidnap her. He is also frantically trying to how to help his daughter and her sister while being an ocean away from either of them.
Adrien and Sabrina are both trying to make sure Chloe's ok, because even if their friendship went sour they're still going check in after seeing her head get cracked open. The fact that the first thing she says to them is an apology is also causing some complicated emotions. Like, they are glad that they got an apology for how she acted; But she just got murdered and disowned, and the first thing she says is sorry.
The rest of the class are dealing with a whole lot of emotions. Sure they didn't like Chloe, but that doesn't mean they wanted her dead. They want to make sure she's ok, but they don't know what to say, and there isn't a social script that even comes close to this situation that they could fall back on. Plus, for most, if not all, of them, that was probably the first time they've seen someone die, and it was done in such a violent fashion from someone they trusted.
Yep! There's also the Superhero stuff!
Marinette feeling super guilty about the whole thing because even if she fixed it holy FUCK she snapped and killed someone! It wasn't intentional she just- she got mad and threw something at her. It just so happened to be a magical indestructable yoyo hurled with superstrength.
She's also dealing with some other guilt because as people discuss Chloé's family situation she realizes she had a lot of skewed thoughts regarding it and fucked things up and made it worse.
The public as a whole is at best confused and at worst terrified. Because Ladybug did just team up with the Villain to run the mayor out of office and then kill a civilian. So they're wondering what the fuck happened and if the Hero went dark
The classmates are caught up in that considering they had been recruited as Heroes. Were they really Heroes fighting a good cause? Or were they fools?

How do you shift
Not sure if youre asking specifically how i shift or how to shift in general? But ill answer both!
How to shift:
Id recommend looking at blogs/videos etc of people who shift! Some post their shifting routine or advice! You can go in tags on tumblr and you'll find plenty of blogs with tons of info! Youtube has some great videos as well! I also made a small shifting informational notion if that might help too?
To start, everyones shifting journey and experiences are different and can vary a lot. What may work for me may not work for you!
Theres awake and sleep methods, most people start off/prefer asleep methods. Visualize, affirm, believe.
Visualize- Don't try to see every detail of a person or moment, just feel. Making props to look/listen to can help at this stage. (Playlists for characters/moments, notes, letters etc)
Affirm- You are a master shifter, shifting is easier than you think it is, you are pure consciousness not attached to any one reality, nothing is holding you back from shifting. Affirm, affirm...affirm. i say all of those affirmations plus a few more. I repeat them a dozen billion times as I'm falling asleep.
Believe- You don't necessarily have to believe but pretend you do. You're already in your dr. You have already shifted...you shift constantly.
It's good to know where you're shifting and some general info about yourself or the reality, though i suppose it isn't required? Your conscience knows what you want. You only need the intention. You really don't need anything else but sometimes methods will help! There are plenty of shifting subliminals and videos, guides etc to use and if anyone wants some recs i dont mind making a post/sending something privately! Just gotta ask.
How i shift:
If i know im going to shift later that night then i like to think about my dr throughout the day! Like ill think about memories, things ive scripted, arguments, confessions, embarrassing moments, things with high emotions! I play the whole thing out in my head., thinking of how ill react/how i did react etc.
I also try to think about my brother in my dr and what we are going to do for the day! More recently i try to think of what we are going to learn in class, what im doing after class, what spells i have to practice etc! Ill do affirmations and also reciting information about myself throughout the day. But ill do it in a way that im introducing myself or is casual instead of reciting what i wrote down if that makes sense.
So ill say something like "im basra pettigrew, this is my younger brother....." or smthn along those lines
Now theres two different ways i normally shift when im home. One is just acting like im already there and speaking to my dr siblings. Having affirmed all day and set intentions throughout i wont do it again at home since im already in my dr! Basically gaslighting myself into thinking im there!
The other way is similar except i do affirm and ill go through information/props ive made :)
Like for example, ive written some of the notes we've passed in class down! I ofc don't remember word for word but it's the general vibe/words of the convo. Ill go through moodboards ive made, quotes ive saved, and in general consume any content about wherever im shifting. Once I'm ready for bed i get comfortable and say my usual affirmations. As im starting to lose consciousness ill say goodnight to my siblings in my dr and act how would in my dr if i was going to bed!
Normally I'll hear my dr brother moving around as I'm falling asleep and it confirms to me that I'm there. Though I did script that whenever i shift i smell Peter's shampoo or that i taste chocolate! Thats another way i know ive shifted :) (You can also use something similar to make you believe youve shifted...therefore helping you shift! Like eating chocolate bfr bed or spraying cologne/lighting a candle etc which ive done bfr and it worked for me) Sometimes I'll shift with the lucid method too. Not sure what it's called but where I'm lucid dreaming, I'll use it as a doorway of sorts. Also I don't get a lot of 'symptoms' when shifting, i have before but only two or three times so I don't pay too much attention to that.
I don't use subliminals as much as i used to (if at all these days) i just tell myself I'm going to shift tonight, no matter what im shifting and nothing can stop me from doing so. And well...it works 🤷🏻♀️
________
A/n It's not a super in depth answer but i can always make a more thorough post at some point if this isn't what you were wanting or if you want more specifics?
I'm not whatsoever an expert, I'm answering from my own experience and knowledge which probably isn't as good as the hundreds of other blogs that actually specialize in shifting! I recommend taking a look at those types of blogs if you want more info/motivation though! Ill still answer any and all questions to the best of my knowledge just know it may be flawed or not what you're looking for.
Also if you want a post about all the props ive made that are for my dr(s) id be glad to make one!! Or if there's any questions? Hopefully this answered your question though?

Hi!
I think I know what your theory is about :) An Inception-like ending? If that's what you're thinking, I'm considering that too. I'm neutral about it, I just follow the clues and never rule anything out. So, yeah, maybe we'll see something like that. Maybe the epilogue scenes are what Will is imagining (writing), not real life, and the bar scene is similar to the church scene in LOST, the last time Will wants to see everyone together, in his mind. The people who are still alive and the ones they lost. But maybe some of those moments really happen. There are many possibilities!
I have a draft about the 3x03 dnd campaign you mentioned. I have two different interpretations about it. If I find it, I'll tag you :)
I noticed some possible hints at an Inception-like ending. Of course, they could mean other things, the writers took inspiration from so many stories. Ok, the fact that mind spaces exist in ST and we can see memories (labyrinths of memories/timelines?) Nina. The Alice in Wonderland references. Henry saying that the kids are still with him, in his mind, a parallel to Kali's friend saying that they were all dead but Kali saved them. Plus, the kids in the Creel house in the S5 BTS. Troy saying that now that he's dead, Will is a fairy and lives in fairyland (Peter Pan never gets old, like a memory). Dream circles, the Neverending Story, in which Bastian recreates Fantasia, including characters that were dead. Max in S4 and El in S2 asking, "Are you real?" "Did I make you?" But I interpret these lines as I made you be here, even if you shouldn't (be alive?), not as I created you.
As you probably know, I have a different theory about El and the meaning of the ghosts references. I think all these people are real, but they're like Lorraine and the other characters in the BTTF bad timeline. Perfoming in a silly, terrible play/not living their real lives. I think there are hints that El was born stillborn, or maybe died when she was five, and that she and other characters, like Hopper, are only alive ("crawled backwards"/back in time/were brought back to life) because of what happened to Will. And El basically took his place. The Superman/Clark Kent/twin imagery. I'm not sure Will lived in the lab though. The article in S1 suggests that he was only there for a week. Maybe it was enough.
Anyway, I think El's very existence is connected to Will ("If not siblings by blood, siblings by circumstance. They share a common bond that is not of this world", from the 4x08 script). But imo there's too much grief around her character, for her to be just a projection. And it's not just about her. I think the ghosts references are about other people who died in the past. Will, Henry, and Max's story is a big hint at what happened to them. It would be more meaningful (IMO), an inspiring story, like the teacher says in 4x01. Kids trying to "get a message through", "to talk to her daddy/parents". To live, despite everything that has been done to them. There are many parents grieving in this story. Parents who fight for their children, even when they're told that there's no hope, and parents who feel like they failed them, or even caused their suffering. Interesting that the mothers keep fighting and the fathers feel like they are curses or black holes that destroy everything. But it seems the opposite for Henry, hm... I have a theory about that.
It's also interesting to me that there's always this confusion, very intentional, about kids/babies being alive or dead. Maybe that's the point and what the loop or Will's mind is doing. Some of the characters that should be dead are alive. Hopper even says "They liked me better when I was dead." The kid in the pumpkin patch says You're dead! The man in 2x07 says "You're dead. We're all dead", to El. Will is in fairyland, but after his death. The UD is a place of decay and death. The kids are in Henry's mind, after they died. Hopper was seeing Sarah after her death, etc.
People dealing with the death of a loved one keep seeing them, hearing them, like ghosts. But since this is a sci-fi show, it is possible that there's some sort of time travel/loop and that people who died are alive. If they're really stuck, it's like torture, because their families can't move on, they can't heal. And grief can drive you insane. And trauma is literally haunting these people, with monsters and tendrils! But we can also see this as parents and their children, or friends, who got a second chance to live. Or maybe, to forgive and say goodbye. Because in the end, when they will break the loop, someone will be gone, for real this time. But they will always live in the memories of the people who loved them. Or even in Will's "realm". The bittersweet ending. But also surprising and happy, like Hopper says in his letter.
Lol, sorry for this long message. It's a stormy day, I'm drinking tea and eating biscuits, and of course I had to talk about one of my favorite shows! :)
Yes yes! It is Inception like. A story within a story within a story.
Please tag me! That 3x03 campaign is major foreshadowing without a doubt.
YES YES YES! Exactly! There's a reason for all of those references. It's not just random. It's like a dream, but not exactly.
I'm still unsure about many of the characters and the roles. So I had to narrow the theory down to Will and Mike's story. I think they are the key players, the "Gods" if you will. But I am fascinated to know which characters are "real" beyond the story we see within the show. I have some ideas but I'm really not sure.
Yeah many of them will live on... just not the way we think/expect.
I'll be finishing the entire theory post soon. It's the most emotionally draining one to write on. But I do think the concept is correct, my details just might be off!

Rewatching that Zach Sang interview with Oliver makes me more convinced than ever that Buddie is coming. The question about Buddie was at the end of the interview and it didn't really feel like an organic question more like something maybe they were requested to ask about.
I mean why not ask Oliver what the future of Buck and T*mmy is considering he's the one Buck is actually dating right now? And like I said in a previous post about this Oliver could have answered this many different ways in an effort to not get people’s hopes up. It just feels like they're trying to get the audience ready for Buddie by talking about them so much. They talk about Buddie in pretty much every 911 interview about the show lately. This wouldn’t be happening if the intention was for Eddie to be straight and Buddie was never going to be a possibility. The focus would be exclusively on Buck and T*mmy and while they have gotten some focus because of Buck’s coming out and that’s who he’s dating there’s always stuff about Buddie and Eddie. Tim and Oliver and the rest know how popular Buddie is, if it wasn’t happening I truly think they’d try and distance themselves and Buck from that. Obviously you want fans to tune in but you also don't want fans expecting something that's never going to happen because people will just get frustrated and tune out.
They very intentionally made Buck's coming out connected to Eddie in such a huge way that if Buddie wasn't happening I find it next to impossible that not one person would have looked at the script especially for 7x04 and said hey maybe we shouldn't feature Eddie so heavily in this episode when so many people want to see these characters in a relationship.
Plus everything that Lou has been saying too leads me to believe he's not staying beyond this season. Like I know some of you really like him and like him and Buck together but nothing the show has been telling us and nothing the actors etc are telling us gives me the impression he's being set up to be a long term love interest.
I also think when you look at Buck in some ways he's almost the main character of the show. I know it's an ensemble show and I know more experienced actors like Angela Bassett and Peter Krause get a lot of attention but if you go back an watch earlier seasons a lot of storylines are from Buck's pov to a certain extent. Plus there isn't another character that we've watched grow and change as much as we have Buck. My point is considering Buck is such a central character of the show (and an extremely popular one at that) I find it highly unlikely they're going to just stick him with any ol love interest as his endgame ship. Especially now that Tim is back as showrunner he's expressed that he didn't really like some of Buck and Eddie's past relationships.
Oliver has also talked in interviews about how Buck is going to have to work at his next relationship and I don't see that as being with T*mmy. He hasn't really had to put any work into this thing with him. He liked T*mmy and now they're dating. Same as with any other relationship he's been in. Oliver literally said that is how all of Buck's relationships have been. He likes a person and he gets that person and he said this season that is supposed to change for Buck.
The thing that will be different I think is when Buck finally realizes he's in love with Eddie and has to deal with that. I also wonder if Buck is going to have to work to prove to Eddie he wants to be with him. Eddie has been there loving and supporting Buck for years but then you had Buck saying (last season) that Natalia (this women who he just met) saw him in a way no one else does. Which I think had to have hurt Eddie on some level.
I also wonder if Eddie, once he truly realizes his feelings for Buck will be hesitant to change their relationship. Eddie has historically chosen romantic partners he doesn't allow himself to get too invested in, I think so he doesn't have to be afraid of losing them like he and Chris lost Shannon. I also think that Buck actually dying for a few minutes when he was struck by lightning brought all of this up even more for Eddie. Buck has been the one constant in Eddie and Chris' life and I wonder how Eddie will deal with things as the relationship is changing. I think he'll be afraid of losing Buck and resistant at first so I see a lot of areas where the show can take things to have Buck be the one to fight for Eddie and for them to be together.
There's also the fact that Buddie parallels Bathena, Madney, and Henren all the time. The show has a history of these epic ships while Buck and Eddie have for so long been in these lackluster relationships that go nowhere with partners that are not their equals. The deserve to have a great love story every bit as much as the other characters and that's clearly with each other.

I watched the first episode of Kate Winslet's "The Regime" and had a few thoughts.
First, the good:
- Really excited to see Matthias Schoenaerts (Booker in The Old Guard) in it, so that was already a huge plus.
- Kate Winslet is definitely acting her ass off.
- A lot of worldbuilding and research about dictators both historical and modern definitely went into the script. I could see snippets of many known dictator affectations, like germophobia, on display.
And now the... not exactly bad but the ???:
(Cut because we start to get into some actual spoilers)
I really don't know where the show is trying to go just yet. I can't quite tell if it's a flat out comedy in the style of Death of Stalin, as advertised, or if it's actually going for a deeper dramedy where we're supposed to feel some level of pathos for Winslet's and Schoenaerts' characters.
Basically, it feels like a fictionalization of a historical dramedy.
However, in Death of Stalin and other dramas and satires based on real historical events, we know where this is all going, to some extent. We can tell if the Bumbling Advisor's advice is, well, bumbling because we know how things are going to turn out.
Right now, in The Regime, we don't have any grounding in reality to be able to determine if the decisions being made are bad or good or simply incompetent and doomed to fail.
We've got a lot subjective view points like the various ministers and Schoenaerts' character to give their perspective on what the country should do next, but we don't have any objective birds eye view, historical knowledge, or even an actual person average person in the this fictional country to tell us what they're really thinking, unfiltered through the subjective POV of all these characters with very pronounced agendas.
In a way, I do consider that quite clever from a writing craft standpoint. I feel just as isolated and wrapped in cotton wool as Winslet's character. Which is part of why I wonder if I'm supposed to sympathize with a figure that, to my eyes, reads like Marine le Pen from a dystopian world where she actually won in France.
As an American, I can't tell whether or not the country turning away from America (who was clearly trying to take advantage, in a cobalt deal that to my ears echoed the British oil interests in Iran at the beginning of the 20th c.) is meant to be seen as a good or a bad thing. Truly. I don't mean that as saying I want or expect America to be the good guy, but I can't tell if I'm relatively anti-American compared to the creator of the show (ie, that America is just assumed to be a good guy so it's meant to be a negative harbinger of bad things to come that they turned away) or relatively pro-American (ie, that it's a show made by non-Americans so by not seeing this as a clear good thing that they reject America using terminology that echoes current Russian rhetoric) and I should be cheering on their choice to turn away.
On the one hand, this ambiguity if intentional is quite masterful! I can't quite tell if I'm supposed to see Schoenaerts as a straight-shooter who is supposed to help this rather hapless dictator maybe achieve some good, or if he's a violent MAGA-type thug who is going to get her ear and put their country down the path to atrocities. I just don't know yet, because this isn't a historical dramedy so I don't know how these events play out.
And I can't tell quite yet if that's a good or a bad thing from the writerly perspective. On the one hand, I'm personally more baffled than intrigued as to why I should care about anything going on in it so far. It's not all that funny, so I'm not entertained or amused just at the nonsense happening, because I can't tell what I'm supposed to see as nonsense and what I'm supposed to see as serious worldbuilding leading towards an actual fictional country narrative that will allow some commentary on our own global situation, or if it's just intrigue for the sake of intrigue, or if it's a character study and I shouldn't care about the actual events in the fictional country because it's the absurdity of the personalities I should be focusing on. Or if I am supposed to be laughing, what aspects I'm supposed to be laughing at.
Basically, it hasn't won my trust yet. I'm mildly intrigued, mostly because of Winslet and Schoenaerts adding complexity to what in a normal satire might just be flat comedic characters. But I can't even really tell yet if the story thinks it's a comedy or if it just has comedic elements (like, say, Succession).
Maybe I'm just basic, but I wouldn't have minded a bit more signposting and a bit less of a feeling that I'm supposed to grasp what point the story is trying to make on its own. I don't really know what the thesis is yet, because it's not based in real events, there's no objective truth for me to look at and say, "Ah, they're saying this historically terrible person was misunderstood, or bumbling, or actually heroic, or well-intentioned," etc etc. I only have their word for it and they haven't actually told me yet what their word is trying to say, y'know?
Verdict: I'll probably watch a bit more, but I am a little perplexed at present as to what the takeaway should be.

Do you ever think about just how much Hawkeyes character evolved, like, the other day I was thinking about that one deleted episode, Hawkeye on the double (?) or something like that, and how in that when he found out he was being duped by two people working together he staged his own fake attempted suicide via fckn minefield to traumatise them into never doing it again, like, comparing that to the joker is wild is crazyyyyy. Like obviously the scale of pranks there is off, but idk it just made me think, Hawkeye as a character definitely lost some edge as the show progressed
Yeah! lol it's kind of wild how much less of a mastermind Hawkeye became when the writers decided BJ's thing should be pranks.
I feel like the real reason for this is that the show's tone shifted away from satire and into character drama. When the show is a satire Hawkeye is the political centre, so his role in the story is to be right. The army/war can beat him in a tragic way, but in the early seasons his only righteous comeuppances that I can remember off the top of my head were like, Ceasefire when he got dumped three times in a row, and lol the script you cite, where there's more of an equal back and forth between him and the two women but it does end with Hawkeye nearly accidentally killing himself for real lol. So like, in the early seasons he occasionally gets narratively punished for misogyny, but otherwise he's meant to be the cool guy who is right and better than all the army representatives. And because it's a satire, I think that's great, it works very well, Hawkeye is an awesome character who absolutely should get narratively rewarded for driving colonels into early retirement and taking out their appendixes.
But then the show shifted to character drama instead and now Hawkeye needs flaws to examine, weaknesses the narrative can use to tear him down in a deserving way rather than a tragic way, etc. Sometimes his left-leaning politics ~go too far~ now, sometimes he's too self-righteous or unreasonable, sometimes he has to capituate to authority and admit rebellion is wrong, and sometimes the narrative tears him down just because we're meant to get some schaudenfreude from it, as in Joker is Wild. Because the narrative is no longer on Hawkeye's side by default, and often gets entertainment value out of punishing him for various sins, real or not.
So I don't think it's meant to be an intentional character shift, but it does make me want an in-universe explanation for why he loses his edge.
And the explanation I like that covers most of Hawkeye's narrative repositioning for me, including the lackluster pranks in later seasons and like, guilt in Preventative Medicine, etc, is that it's because of his shifting friend group. Trapper the constant supportive presence and enabling partner in crime is replaced by BJ who only selectively enables Hawkeye and often likes to take him down a few pegs instead. Henry the CO Hawkeye could walk all over is replaced by Potter who is successfully authoritative and puts his foot down. And Frank's gone and Margaret's chilled out so there are no more ideological enemies to target. Plus Charles is also someone willing and able to take Hawkeye down, and even Klinger is no longer into rebellion by season 8.
I mean when you think about it lol it does kinda make sense that Hawkeye would lose a lot of his enthusiasm for fucking with people when his new best friend yells at him for taking out an asshole army guy's appendix instead of helping him. And he might not want to go too far in retaliation for pranks when the whole cast turns on him pretty easily now, as in eg Fallen Idol. And it's probably harder to bring yourself to rebel against the army when you're making friends with a bunch of career army types like Potter, Margaret, and Mulcahy, and have no one else around who shares your ideological hatred for it.
ANYWAY yeah hope you don't mind getting an essay in response lol, this is like one of the aspects of the show I like talking about most, to the point where it's my inspiration for like at least 2 fics lol.

Have you ever noticed there are loads of surface level plot similarities between the pilots of riverdale and dawsons creek. Also mr honey is the actor who played jack and greg berlanti worked on both projects. Just a topic i used to like to think about a lot….
yes yes yes omg yes!! sibling shows!! and this is intentional for sure, i was looking at articles about riverdale from pre-series (circa 2015-16) yesterday to cite the perks of being a wallflower movie as a core inspiration for s1 and roberto mentioned dawson's creek regularly, too. actually way before the twin peaks pastiche started getting promoted, dawson's and perks were coming up.
it's really really wonderfully apparent if you're into the gay-auteur genre of teen dramas or the intersection between teen dramas and gay horror media. dawson's creek ran so riverdale could soar (lean in even harder on genre-archetype-and-trope-as-social-construct, not be hung up by don't-ask-don't-tell era tv writing restrictions...except by choice for queerbaiting fun and spite). and even failing to soar, dawson's creek season 2 might remain a perfect season of television for me.
(note for the readers who aren't operating in the 5th dimension like me and anon, yet: kevin williamson made our favorite genre-aware homoerotic slasher movie, scream, and dawson's creek both, and the only functional difference between them is what genre conventions he was allowed to play with to make it. in scream he got to have his repressed closet cases do murder. in dawson's creek, dawson must pick up the camera and make his friends into Characters, instead.)
dawson's creek and riverdale are suuuuch spiritually similar shows, at least the parts of DC that williamson was involved with - so for sure seasons 1-2, and then his comeback many seasons later for the finale (which i think the riverdale finale also riffed on heavily. mwah). you've got:
the original controversial "teenagers don't fucking talk like this omg cringe" ft. heightened theatrical hyperstylized dialogue full of movie references
comphet camp. no character is truly coherent unless you pepper in the fact that they're lgbt and repressing it as hard as they can. barchie, meet dawson/joey. it sucks here sooo bad but it's certainly in the social script and legacy expectations. might try to make it last a lifetime!
meta plot about the whole show possibly being the creation of the most repressed and judgmental (and asexual) control freak main character. plus many in-universe metaplots where said character makes autobiographical work romanticizing/projecting all over his friends
titular location (riverdale, the creek) is both a story setting AND a narrative mousetrap that the characters are trapped in.
there are tons of direct DC<>rvd plot and character riffs and web-weaves. like anon mentioned, principal honey really does play like a later-in-life continuation of kerr smith's role as jack in dawson's creek, with dawson creek jack's values and beliefs. most of the s1 rvd characters make more sense in the context of dawson's creek archetypes, too (especially jughead, veronica, kevin imo). many plots seem yanked off a teen drama tropes bingo card that dawson's creek filled out for them (complimentary!!!!).
they also both just have a really similar character writing approach to their campy genre pulp. the shows are very arch and into their coding games and doublespeak, the text is a fluid thing never taken too seriously or held too dearly. but the characters are nearly always treated earnestly and with love, we're allowed to grow so fond of them as an audience bc the narrative is one of love (sometimes an oppressive love full of meta-projections from its unreliable narrator-creator, but LOVE!!). it's a priority that while the weird tropey shit is happening, we still really are allowed to care about how it feels to be archie or pacey or jen or betty, and the emotional repercussions of any weird tropey happenings are carried through fairly consistently*. dawson is THE WORST. but he's beloved. he's vivid. he's coherent. his feelings are wrong but they're real and we do care. we do!! we must!!
anyway. you made me go back and look at posts from when i went back and rewatched dawson's creek in 2022. here's an assortment of random hot takes and fawning fond adorationisms, if you even care. look at my closeted friends from the creek. they're stuck like this!
PS: i made a list one time of the 6 essential dawson's creek episodes (i would add the 2-part whole series finale to this list in retrospect, so 8 episodes total) that one could watch out-of-context to open their <understanding gay-auteur camp teen drama comphet-lamenting queer-coding tropes and conventions> third eye. it's here on my personal blog! most recommend the daddy/mommy issues fishing trip ep (parent<>child dynamics and gender...riveressentials) and the gay two-parter (principal honey!!).
PPS: @kevin-keller-artistic-director used to post about rvd and dawson's creek semi regularly and probably would have great thoughts about this topic beyond what i just dredged up <3 also interested if anyone else wants to riff on the topic of riverdale as a successor/sibling to dawson's creek 👀
*pacey's CSA plot (DEROGATORY) a notable exception to this. but that's because dawson's creek isn't trying to depict abuse, it's trying to do a queer closet metaphor, where "being in high school but dating an adult woman" is the same as "having a same-sex relationship with a peer" in terms of secrecy and shame and social impact...just NO thought to power dynamics or trauma AT ALL. it's basically the kevin/moose plot from riverdale and pacey is impacted by it like kevin is. gross!!!!
#mike white wrote for dawson's creek too btw. a fact i think about so often. let's web weave white lotus and DC and riverdale perhaps#the central conceit of the gay-auteur teen drama IS that comphet is a curse. and white lotus is sitting there too. it's a venn diagram#rereading this and realizing i didn't talk about the superficial similarities between the DC pilot/establishing premise and rvd#someone else write the beat by beat breakdown. boy and girl whose parents ship them. new girl in town trying to shake off a bad reputation#riverdale#dawson's creek#web-weaving and postmodern media legacy. or something

Hello, first of all I want to apologize in advance if this post seems too distressed and hopeless, but for me this episode was like the nail in the coffin. If I had any hope left in the showrunner's direction for Aemond, after this it was all crushed to pieces. Based on Aemond's scenes with Alicent and Aegon, plus the leak of episode 7 (spoiler: https://x.com/cliffsidesiren/status/1815228663568208337), they really don't give Aemond any sympathy. From now on he will only be a soulless character containing all the most terrible sins in The Dance. So that every time he appears, people will be disgusted by every action and word he does on screen. I feel too tired to be angry, only extreme disappointment . Maybe it's partly my fault for being too attached to the character, and Ewan was the first actor I followed even before he joined HOTD (Orferth was my favorite character in The last kingdom). Some people say that one of the reasons why what Ewan said in the interview contradicts so much with what is shown is because he himself is not happy with what the writer wrote about Aemond. So he trying to interpret Aemond's intentions in his own way, it's no different from the headcanon where he wanted it to happen but couldn't. It reminds me of Tom and Phia having to ask for more scenes together, or Tom not being satisfied with Aegon being turned into a rapist. No matter how attached he is to his character, Ewan cannot influence the script. I don't know if I should continue watching ss3,small part of me still wants to go with Ewan until Aemond ends up in God Eye. But each episode leaves nothing but bitterness, not only for Aemond but also Alicent, every plot holes that cannot be ignored in each episode, and the departure from the original and the ridiculous fan services. And those are some of my thoughts for the new ep, hope you have a nice day.
Hello! Thank you, hope you have a nice day too😊 And that you found something to cheer yourself up with after our weekly dose of disappointment.
There is no need to apologize, really, I understand how you're feeling. This show has pretty much become a joke and is trying to make a joke of its characters.
I myself kind of resigned myself to watch Aemond collecting all the fictional sins imaginable - but at the same time I discovered that there are still people among GA who, while not being approving of his actions, still do not treat him with hatred. This actually made me feel a bit better.
Actors at this point are hostages to the writers' whim, true, and I feel really bad for Ewan - and not only for him. But I do believe that HotD actors have still gained a lot from working on the project, and I truly hope it's enough to compensate for the disappointment about the way their characters were handled.

10 What scares them about entering a relationship?
Oof, this one may need a breakdown per xpac. Wolfram and Raubahn both had a lot of fears. This will have spoilers for my comic/script series. That can be followed here.
15 years pre-ARR:
They both were nervous because committed relationships were new for them both. Plus they fell in love *quick*. (We're gonna blame their ancients for that BTW) Wolf was worried Raubahn wouldn't love him if he knew about his past - which is why he got into it with no intention of ever telling him. Unfortunately, 2 years later the bond with Rau had made him a better person. He was planning to propose and couldn't in good conscience keep up the lie. Obviously, telling Rau confirmed his fear (in his mind anyway) as he was instantly dumped.
ARR:
Wolfram - He didn't think Rau would ever talk to him again, much less befriend him. He never stopped loving Raubahn but a relationship wasn't even on his mind as a possibility so he didn't even think about it enough to be scared.
Raubahn - It didn't occur to him until the patches when he realized he was in love with the man he had left for basically being completely at odds with his own morality. Who had made him so angry that night he didn't recognize himself - he went through a lot of self-doubt. Had he no pride? Even if he pushed that aside, would Wolf feel the same way after so long? Plus he was scared of what the Monetarists would do if he had any public romantic partner, much less the Warrior of Light. Political nightmare. Still, he was a bit flirty, he couldn't help it.
HW:
Wolfram - Still didn't think Rau cared about him like that so wasn't even considering a relationship. Despite the fact that they called each other's linkshell almost every day and then made out / almost slept together on the night of the Grand Melee. Dude gaslit himself into the friend zone. 😅
Raubahn - The events of the Bloody Banquet made him very introspective. He couldn't help but draw a comparison from his rage that night to his rage the night Wolf told him his past all those years ago. He was scared Wolf could never forgive him. He formally apologized to his friend on a linkshell call and Wolf told him there was nothing wrong with him - he's patient and kind. He deserved Rau's anger and so did the Monetarists (he literally wanted to join Rau to fight them). That pretty much relieved the fears Rau had and he decided to try and get back together if Wolf was interested. They were even flirty with each other. When Wolf stopped things the night of the melee, it made Rau think he wasn't interested for a moment, but then he realized Wolf was likely just in his own head about it so he'd give him time and not bring it up.
SB:
Before the patches, they were basically dating without realizing they were. Everyone else thought they were a couple. Despite there being every sign that Rau was interested, Wolf kept gaslighting himself.
Wolfram - In the first patch, the night Raubahn was basically fired by his best friend. Wolf stuck around when Nanamo left to comfort him. Rau was very sad, feeling like the life he built himself had ended and upset that he wouldn't be able to protect the Sultana. He was lost and impulsively told Wolf he loved him and wanted them to be together. It caught Wolf totally by surprise. Then terror. He had recently helped Rhun and Arya deal with Lilith which really hit home how dangerous and unpredictable being possessed by a voidsent is. He couldn't risk being so close to the love of his life if there was a possibility of his voidsent taking over. For some reason, the voice in his head was always louder around Rau, in his mind making it an even greater risk. Scared is an understatement to how he felt and therefore he handled the situation in the worst way possible - not properly explaining how he felt and leaving.
Raubahn - He was completely heartbroken when Wolf turned him down and left without giving him straight answers. He would have even been okay if Wolf had turned him down and stayed to comfort him as a friend. So when Wolf left he was sad and then angry - wondering if he had led him on for some reason. Making (incorrect) guesses about why Wolf wouldn't want him.
ShB:
Wolf had the same fears but in the end, Wolf told Rau about them so at least the commander wasn't angry with him anymore. Wolf feared the voidsent. Rau feared the pain of being near him when he wanted more than friendship. So they became just colleagues who hardly talk but love each other very much and they both know it.
EW:
Wolfram - Once he learned he was no longer possessed, he started to fear where the voidsent went and if it could return somehow. Later Rau told him a potential possibility about the fiend's fate, which embarrassed Wolf more than anything. So he was scared that even if he was no longer a danger - he was still not worthy of Raubahn (or happiness in general).
Rau - Wasn't scared at all. He (very smugly) *knew* they'd get back together. He was extremely flirty and relaxed. He was right.
Wolf just had to die to stop second-guessing himself. They got married when Wolf returned to Sharlayan.
During the patches, it's no fear - all awesome battle couple stuff. (Rau goes with him to 13th). DT should be similar so please look forward to it 😂

-What are your tmnt iteration guys’s appearances like? (Just baseline descriptions or if you want to like them to different versions)
-What is each of the boys’s hobbies and interests? (Specifically your Donnie since some iterations have him more of a mechanic while others make him a scientist or coder fhlsjdhdhshdhjd I feel like there’s so much interesting potential for that)
-Are they still in their sewer setup? If so, how is it different or similar to other iterations?
-Who’s your favorite right now (don’t worry, I won’t tell ^^)
-Um um um idk anymore questions but five is a good number to have so any little random things you wanna add? Character specific? Not?
Hmmmm. Honestly I don’t have a super clear image of them appearance-wise in my head yet, but there are a couple things I’m very fond of from canonical interpretations that I think will carry over. • Leo’s blue is a darker royal blue, and I’m kind of attached to blue-eyed Leo. I’m thinking he’s probably the second-tallest of the group for the earlier half of the main storyline, but it would be really funny if Mikey beat him in height later on. Long mask tails, and he probably has a little pouch or something to put snacks and band-aids and basic pain meds in. • Raph is the second shortest (soon to be surpassed by Mikey) because I adore short Raph. His red is bright, like stop sign red. Covered in bumps and bruises and usually a few band-aids. The reason for Leo’s pouch, honestly. Although I prefer him with longer mask tails, I think he probably has shorter mask tails because they get tattered and torn too easily if they’re longer. Also easier to tuck under a helmet! Knee-pads and elbow pads!! • Donnie is the tallest because as much as I love short Raph I equally love string-bean Donnie. I imagine him with a nice deep blue-undertoned purple, but less saturated than Rise!Donnie’s. Short mask tails. Brown eyes because I also love brown-eyed Donnie. I’m thinking he’s got some specially made gloves that are really durable and really flexible, and he wears them pretty much all the time. Goggles! A couple small burn scars on his hands from when he was younger. He is also the bearer of the tooth gap due to Raph accidentally landing an intentional face-hit during a sparring match. • Mikey is currently the shortest by a couple inches, but he'll be the second tallest when they're older. His orange is a really vibrant punch-you-in-the-face orange, with red undertones. Like an orange sorbet almost? He’s got long mask tails because he wanted to match Leo. Glasses! The idea just popped into my head and I fell in love so that’s cannon now. Burn marks and little nicks from sous-chefing for Splinter pre-glassses. He has a hoodie. Also he definitely inherited 2012 Mikey’s freckles :)
2.
• Leo doesn’t really have any at the beginning of the main storyline, other than meditating and reading non-fiction strategy and martial arts books and practicing in the dojo. When he was younger though he was a down-right enabler and professional tag-along for all of Raph’s chaos gremlin shenanigans, plus he definitely had a SpaceHeroes variant he was obsessed with. After his self-discovery arc he enjoys reading fiction, but he especially enjoys reading comics. He also tries his hand at writing out scripts for a few! And he picks his SpaceHeroes variant back up. • Raph is a chaos gremlin. If it causes trouble without getting anybody hurt and him in actual serious trouble with Splinter (no video games or skateboarding) he’s probably done it. He’s the skateboarder of the group and also the gamer. When he’s not doing any of the above he’s either messing with his little brothers or sparing with Leo in the dojo. • I see my Donnie as more of a tinkerer. He can code and hack if given a really, really good reason to, but he’d rather not and it is definitely not a fast process. He’s much happier sitting in a pile of old appliances from a scrap heap and taking them apart and putting them back together again to learn how they work. So he’s gotten really good with welding and metals and wiring, and he likes making little gadgets and gizmos out of whatever he can get his hands on! Aside from that, he loves reading both fiction and non-fiction, and he enjoys playing video games with Raph. • Mikey is a hobby-hopper, so he's tried a little bit of everything. The things that stayed are being Splinter's sous-chef and baking, sewing (his hoodie, Leo's bag, Donnie's gloves, all their masks as they got older, the odd stuffed animal out of scraps, etc.), and language learning. He wants to travel the world in the future (part of his desire for independence), so he's trying to learn a bunch of languages now since he's got the time. Aside from English he's also fluent in Japanese, which was an easy choice for a second language. But now he's having trouble deciding on a third language because there are so many he really wants to learn, so he's kind doing a few at once until he settles on one.
3.
Yes and no! There's the main sewer tunnel that they take to get to the surface, and then there's a maintenance tunnel with two big pipes inside it that shoots off of the main sewer tunnel. One of the pipes is taking sewage in, and the other is putting it back out, but the tunnel is dry. It leads to the basement of a what was an old sewage treatment facility before it got demolished. The pipes still work, but the filtration system didn't until Donnie was old enough to figure out how to fix it, and when he did he rigged it so the water in their living room would be clean water, so they basically have a pool. They've reinforced the roof and the walls, and the basement is pretty sturdy, so that's their main home. It's got enough rooms that they have a kitchen/dining room, a main living area, a dojo area, Splinter's room, the twins' room, Mikey's room, Donnie's room, and a decently sized storage room. (Donnie's lab is confined to his room and a small corner of the living area, but he does have one of the bigger rooms).
So, yes because they still use the sewer tunnels to get around, no because technically it's the basement of an abandoned building?
4. Ooooh, good question! Probably Donnie, since I'm working out the details about his arc currently, and it's really satisfying for me because I'm coming from watching 2012 season one where Donnie does kinda get treated like he's worth less than the others for having to put more thought into fighting than they do, and then when they actually need him to be him he isn't doing it fast enough/well enough/whatever for their liking. It really bothers me when it happens and I feel like he deserves so much better, so being able to put my Donnie through the same thing and seeing him actually stand up for himself is making me happy :) That said, Leo's a really close second! I love his arc and I love his dynamic with Raph and with Splinter and I love the angst and he's gonna have some really fun angsty points where his arc overlaps with Mikey and Donnie's! Plus he's Leo. I can't not love him to death. I think this is one of those projects where whoever I'm working on at the moment will be my favorite, because I love them all so much! I also adore Raph and how he interacts with his brothers and his growth as he learns what all Leo's been dealing with and that even though he might be telling someone the truth, which he should do, he also should use gentle words. Plus he really truly does love Leo (and the rest of the fam) so so much and he feels things so so deeply that he just doesn't know how to express them all the time. I know the least about Mikey out of all of them, but I'm so excited about his hobbies! I can't wait to start incorporating them into his arc and figuring out the details of his storyline!
5.
• Splinter is fluent in both Japanese and English, just like Mikey. Leo and Donnie are both learning Japanese and are progressing at pretty similar rates. They're not fluent, but they know enough for what they'd need around the lair or on patrol. Raph knows only a few words because he had "more important things to do" (re: throwing waterballoons up at the grates when pedestrians walked over them) so the others have entire conversations in Japanese and he only will pick up a few words here and there. He gets huffy when they do it because he can't eavesdrop. Unfortunately this means they also can't talk about battle plans in Japanese if they want to have any hope of Raph going along with the plan (not that he's likely to anyway)
• Mikey's cat in this iteration is a stuffed kitty he made out of fabric scraps. It's the first project he ever finished, with Splinter's help, and the one that got him interested in sewing.
• So far I haven't figured out a method for vehicles and stuff to be around the lair for the turtles, but after I do they'll probably have a van or something.
• I associate Evelyn, Evelyn by Evelyn Evelyn and Two by Two from Sofia the First with Leo and Raph. Donnie's arc was inspired by Waiting in the Wings from TTS, and he and Leo share Save Myself by Ed Sheeran (albeit replacing the harmful substances with their respective coping mechanisms; tinkering and books for Donnie, meditation and drilling kata for Leo). Mikey has When Will My Life Begin and a portion of his arc was inspired by Dead Mom from Beetlejuice. (Side note: I have no desire to see the musical, but this song is a bop). On a more typical Mikey-esque note, he also has We Like to Party (The Vengabus) by the Vengaboys
Thank you so much for asking, Jade! This gave me a lot to think about that I hadn't considered before, and I'm so excited to have those things figured out now!
P.S. You should definitely make your iteration! It's so much fun! 10/10 Highly recommend.

PLAYER_FLIRTY: Do you know what I like, Vicky?
VICKY_FLIRTY: I think I’m figuring it out.
Being fully comfortable
PLAYER_HAPPY: I like it when you’re fully comfortable with each other.
VICKY_HAPPY: How long do you think that takes?
PLAYER_HAPPY: I think it depends who you’re with.
VICKY_HAPPY: Hmm. And you mean like, when you can burp in front of each other?
PLAYER_HAPPY: You’re gross.
VICKY_HAPPY: You know I’m right.
Meeting the family
PLAYER_HAPPY: I like it when it gets properly serious.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Meeting the family stage.
VICKY_SURPRISED: Wow, no way?!
VICKY_HAPPY: Actually, I can see that for you.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I bet you do really well with the parents.
PLAYER_HAPPY: I do alright.
Becoming official on socials
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Hard launching on socials of course.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I love reading all the cute comments.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Yeah! Feel like a celeb.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Plus it’s nice to move to the next stage.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Show everyone how happy we are together.
VICKY_IDLE: Well even in this early stage…
VICKY_HAPPY: I had to make my intentions known at the last coupling.
PLAYER_SURPRISED: You definitely did that.
PLAYER_HAPPY: How are you feeling about the decision now?
VICKY_FLIRTY: I stand by it.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Best decision I’ve made so far.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Are you glad I picked you?
Very pleased
PLAYER_FLIRTY: It was a very good outcome for me.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I was very pleased.
VICKY_FLIRTY: That’s convenient, because I aim to please.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Especially when it comes to you, {0}.
I’d rather choose for myself
PLAYER_IDLE: I’d probably rather have chosen for myself.
PLAYER_IDLE: I like being in control of my love life.
VICKY_IDLE: That’s totally fair.
VICKY_FLIRTY: But can you blame me?
VICKY_FLIRTY: I knew that I would have some serious competition!
PLAYER_FLIRTY: That’s sweet of you to say, Vicky.
I’m still deciding
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I’m still working that out.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: It’s only been a couple of days. I like to take my time.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Hopefully I can speed up that decision.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I think tonight might give me that chance.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Do you now?
Vicky turns to you with a glint in her eye.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Do you have something else to ask me?
VICKY_FLIRTY: Now you mention it, I was just wondering…
VICKY_FLIRTY: How would you like to spend the rest of our night together?
I want to go all the way with you
You shoot Vicky a romantic smile.
VICKY_FLIRTY: You’re really getting me excited with that look, {0}.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Vicky, I’d like to go all the way with you.
Vicky bites her lip.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Oh I think we can make that happen.
Vicky smiles as she leans in to kiss you.
She starts softly, before building up the pressure.
She parts your lips with hers.
Your hands explore Vicky’s body as she kisses down your neck.
You remove each other's clothes at the same time, letting your bodies press against each other.
She runs her fingers all over your naked body, sending tingles of pleasure down your spine.
Her hands continue softly moving over your body.
You explore each other's bodies at the same time, both moving rhythmically.
She works her way down your body with her lips. Until she finds the perfect spot.
You run your fingers through her hair as your body ripples with electricity.
You both fall back onto the bed, out of breath.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: That was amazing.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I know.
You give Vicky a playful shove.
You snuggle into Vicky in the little spoon position and she puts her soft arms around you.
You both fall asleep under the twinkling stars.
We could do some bits
You shoot Vicky a cheeky smile.
VICKY_FLIRTY: You’re getting me excited with that look, {0}.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I was thinking that we could do some bits…
Vicky bites her lip.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Oh I think we can make that happen.
Vicky smiles as she leans in to kiss you.
She starts softly, before building up the pressure.
She parts your lips with hers.
Your hands explore Vicky’s body as she kisses down your neck.
She runs her fingers under your bra, making you squirm with pleasure.
Her hand continues running down your body.
She expertly works her fingers, your pleasure building and building.
Finally, a rush of electricity spreads through your body.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: That was amazing.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I know.
You give Vicky a playful shove.
You snuggle into Vicky in the little spoon position and she puts her soft arms around you.
You both fall asleep under the twinkling stars.
How about a cheeky kiss?
PLAYER_FLIRTY: How about a cheeky kiss before we go to sleep?
VICKY_FLIRTY: Sounds perfect.
She closes her eyes and leans in as you kiss her.
Softly at first, your lips gently touch as she caresses your cheek.
You part for a brief moment before being drawn back into the kiss.
It’s hungrier now, full of want and passion. She holds you tight and you feel like you are one.
The moment feels like forever until she pulls away, smiling.
VICKY_FLIRTY: That never gets old. Every time feels like the first.
You snuggle into Vicky’s arms.
And gradually you both fall asleep under the twinkling stars.
Let’s cuddle and sleep under the stars
PLAYER_HAPPY: I’d really like to fall asleep under the stars in your arms.
VICKY_HAPPY: That sounds dreamy.
You snuggle into Vicky in the little spoon position and she puts her soft arms around you.
She strokes your hair and you exchange happy, romantic looks.
Comfortable and happy, you both fall asleep under the twinkling stars.
Go straight to sleep
PLAYER_HAPPY: I’m ready to fall straight to sleep.
PLAYER_HAPPY: No cuddling tonight.
{0}_IDLE: Fair enough.
You settle into the daybed and within seconds both fall asleep under the twinkling stars.
You wake up from a blissful sleep and open your eyes to another gorgeous day in the villa.
{0}_HAPPY: Good morning.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Good morning, {0}.
PLAYER_HAPPY: How did you sleep?
VICKY_HAPPY: You’re a very good sleeping partner.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Wow, that’s high praise.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I fell into a very deep sleep after our… activities.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I don’t think I’ll be able to stop thinking about last night.
VICKY_FLIRTY: It was incredible.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: It was definitely a night to remember.
PLAYER_HAPPY: It’s so peaceful out here.
VICKY_HAPPY: I know, it sounds like no one else is awake yet.
PLAYER_HAPPY: I doubt it’ll be long.
VICKY_HAPPY: Whilst we’ve still got time to ourselves, how about breakfast in bed?
PLAYER_HAPPY: What did you have in mind?
VICKY_HAPPY: I’ve got just the thing.
Vicky jumps up and heads over to the kitchen.
You take in the view around you, until you hear her footsteps.
She’s holding a plate of pastries and fruit.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Oh wow!
She hands you the plate and gets comfy next to you.
Give her a pastry
You break off a piece of pastry and give it to Vicky.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Now <i>this</i> I can get used to.
Ask for a pastry
PLAYER_HAPPY: Send some of that pastry this way.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I think I can manage that.
She passes the pastry to you.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Thank you, Vicky! What a treat.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Anything for you.
Food fight!
You shoot Vicky a ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ look.
VICKY_HAPPY: It’s banging right?
You pick up some of the fruit and throw it right at her.
VICKY_SURPRISED: Oh! It’s like that is it?
Without any hesitation she grabs a handful off the plate and throws it right back at you.
You and Vicky have a mini food fight.
You carry on until the plate is empty and your stomach hurts from laughing.
VICKY_HAPPY: Let’s see if any of this is still edible.
She puts the plate back together so you can eat some of the salvaged bits.
Back to the villa
