Can we PLEASE know more about the period of time Sonic benched Tails? was he conscious right after the explosion or did he get to faint through the pain? how was his recovery process? how did Sonic survive seeing his baby bro like that? did they both talk about Tails staying out of battles or did Sonic just forbid him from it? many tears and hugs involved?

so tails was absolutely unconscious after the explosion and was out for about two days. no one was 100% sure he was gonna make it, but he pulled through and lived to see another day. due to the obvious reason i’ll get to in a bit, his recovery process wasn’t as good as it should’ve been. he was stressed and tried to push himself to heal faster so he could get back out there, but of course that just made his condition worse

as for how sonic stayed in one piece after seeing his baby brother in such a state? after seeing his mangled arm? after learning that there was a chance he’d never be able to fly again or hear properly or would never really be able use right side of his body at all? the answer is by a fucking thread. the thinnest thread you’ve ever seen but he held onto that thing with both hands. he had to hold onto the hope that his little brother would be okay, that he’d wake up soon

thankfully, by some miracle granted from chip the light gaia himself, tails was able to use both his right leg and tail. his hearing in that ear was definitely shot and the limbs were a lot weaker than they used to be, but a win is a win

then, of course, the dreaded decision. everything about it was messy. the thought process leading up to it, the conversation between the brothers, and the aftermath. though it was less of a conversation and more so sonic telling tails that he’s benched, no room for negotiations

in sonic’s defense, he was fucking terrified. seeing the broken body of your twelve year old little brother isn’t something you just brush off, that shit sticks with you forever. sonic was never one to set strict rules for his bro, but he never wanted to see tails like that ever again

anyway tails took it as poorly as you’d imagine. there was a massive argument between them, tails kicked sonic out of his recovery room until further notice, and his mental health tanked hard. up until the explosion, he’d been doing pretty well in that department. his confidence was rising and his poor self image was turning itself around, but all of that was thrown out the window when sonic said he wasn’t allowed to fight beside him anymore

he pretty much closed himself off from everyone for a few months, and even after that he remained pretty distant for years. he still gathered information for the restoration or sonic himself, but he was never actually on the battlefield fighting alongside his friends. he was just stuck in his lab, doing what he does best

of course, the whole benching thing didn’t last as long as sonic would’ve liked what with the whole tails going behind his back thing and the brothers did eventually make up, but there’s a smallest bit of tension between them that they don’t really talk about

but ye that’s what i have rn. very happy that people are interested in this!
