Here’s an short unsuccessful test I did today; attempting to create an animation in a program I quite literally have ZERO experience with using ahaha :’)
Storytime/long ramble (unimportant):
I wanted to be like the “cool kids” and shift out of my comfort zone—no more relying solely on FlipaClip! Gotta branch out to a more effective program (ideally one that has an interface resembling animation software used directly in industry work)! I’ve seen people make good use of AlightMotion and figured it’s worth a shot!….that goal quickly fell apart <<
There’s definitely a wide variety of tools and especially emphasis on built-in editing features. I was intimidated by the sheer amount of mechanics going on at first, but gradually you get used to navigating stuff (even if some stuff I’m still trying to figure out the purpose of lmao). The only issue is that (to me at least) AlightMotion seems to handle tweening better then frame-by-frame animation. Which immediately lands me in a predicament of sorts since uh…can’t say I’m good at tweening. That would require me to actually finish coloring characters/have the ability to polish things using clean linework :P
Tweening (from my perspective) is about making something visually appealing by rigging separated assets of characters (like you would for puppets) rather then the whole. Or alternatively, some people tween by slightly moving the same drawn lines around on a singular drawing…so TLDR the exact opposite of frame-by-frame. I’m not an illustrator, I’m a storyteller. I can only manage rough line work with uncolored motions. Usually the smooth flow of frame-by saves me, else it would all look rather unfinished. I know where my strengths and my weaknesses lie; I’ve given AlightMotion a shot, but unfortunately it’s not gonna be solving the FlipaClip replacement problem 🥲
Was still beneficial challenging myself to play around with an unfamiliar environment! It’s a step in the right direction to encourage myself to try different things/figure out what works or doesn’t. If my patience didn’t wear thin, I’m sure I could’ve attempted authentic tweening instead of trying to push the program to work with frame-by-frame (it kept crashing, lagging, and pixelating while I tried to force it to comply with my methods. Think it’s safe to assume it doesn’t like me fighting against tweening lol). Who knows! Might return to AlightMotion in the future or might not. Depends on how adventurous or up for a challenge I’m feeling :3

Also goes without saying that online video tutorials would have probably helped—I’m just stubborn & prefer taking hands on approach sometimes. Learning any new program is gonna be overwhelming and scary at first, it is normal! I don’t think anything bad about AlightMotion. Just not for me at the moment. Was fun to play with while it lasted

do you have, among your many guides, anything for How To Do Taxes without paying some shithead company $200?
I do not because taxes are a nightmare; i looked into trying to create a guide and realized I could cause people for-realsies problems because the system is set up to change regularly and trip you up.
I do know that as of 2024 if you make under $79k a year there is a free file option with the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free
I want to be clear: doing taxes is a fucking nightmare and I hate it, filling out the forms is confusing and upsetting and seems to be worded in the hardest to understand way possible. But I also just sit down and fill out the forms and do the math with no other software; I do not generally pay people to do my taxes because I sit down and do the paperwork myself (or ask Large Bastard to do it because he's better at reading numbers correctly; emotionally I'm more likely to cry and he's more likely to rage-quit so it's a wash on that end).
The IRS website has a step-by-step guide: https://www.irs.gov/how-to-file-your-taxes-step-by-step
The way that I do ANYTHING that I don't know how to do is:
Look up a step by step set of instructions
Search anything that I don't understand in those instructions and research until I've got a handle on it then rewrite that information in a way that I understand it
Read through the instructions from beginning to end, double-checking that I know what each term means
Make sure that I've got everything that the instructions call for in front of me
Follow the instructions step by step; if I get stopped or have a problem I will search the problem using combinations of key terms until I figure out an approach and will try various approaches until that works and I get to the next step
IF I CAN'T GET PAST THAT STEP I call for help from someone who knows this better than I do.
Continue following steps miserably until I am done and can wash my hands of the mess and/or test results.
This is how I learn to cook things and fix cars and thread sewing machines and put trim line in weed whackers and do taxes. Find instructions, make sure I understand instructions, make sure I have everything required for the project, follow instructions, make sure I've got a phone-a-friend handy, and check my work after.
It's not very specific advice for taxes, but it's how I do new stuff (or stuff that isn't new but that I find confusing every time, like taxes).

watch the sunlight fade // secondo
i'm just being self-indulgent right now, writing what i feel like, here is some more manon x secondo wip action, another snippet from a future long fic ➽ content: shoe riding, f!oc, light dom/sub, 1k words 18+
He sits on the bed, fully-clothed, looking a little weary as he takes off his watch. After a long day, he is ready to have the night end but then the door opens and for a second he forgets that he was about to undress. Manon approaches, gets on her knees between his half-spread legs and rests her head against his thigh, eyes closed. Secondo watches, a mild smile tugging at his lips, begins to stroke her head, fingers untangling her long hair at its roots.
She seems just as weary but having her on her knees makes him forget about his own exhaustion. Even now she looks like a painting, her soft features in the evening light sculpted with a soft brush, feathery, even her hair softer somehow, waves of deep brown satin. His fingertips move from her scalp to her cheeks, seeking that pillowy skin.
Manon blinks up at him, her dark lashes fluttering against the light behind him. “I missed you today.”
He smiles at this tender admission. They’d kept her locked down in the archives all day, forced to explain that horrible computer software to two Sisters that are older than his father. Secondo spent the day in the office they prepared for him, then being dragged around the grounds by the over-eager bishop. It’s rare they’re separated for more than a few hours and he doesn’t know what to make of the fact that it bothered him as well.
“Are you very tired?” he asks.
“Less tired, more… socially drained.” She stops, sighs. “I don’t want to talk or think anymore.”
“Mhm, you won’t have to now that you are with me.”
He continues to stroke her head, the smile more amused. She is already attuned to his every touch, every word he says, letting go of whatever tension the day left her with. He is lucky, he thinks, that he is the relief she chooses to let herself fall into, his presence, his body, his care. A privilege he does not take lightly, not when he knows how new this is for her.
“Sit on my shoe,” he orders, though he keeps his voice gentle.
Without a question she follows his words and he lifts the tip of his foot so that the hard leather presses into her cunt. She breathes a gasp, hand shooting out to grab his thigh. He thanks Satan for the warm weather, her knee-length habit revealing some of her skin, exposing her to him so readily.
“Good,” he whispers, reaching out to trace her lips with his thumb. “No more thinking tonight, my dove. You concentrate on me, take what you need.”
She understands, tests how to roll her hips to get that friction, her cheek back on his thigh, one arm wrapped around his leg, the other still grasping at his pants. Secondo watches with his thumb pushed into her mouth, adjusting his foot to see her reactions. Her lips firmly wrap around him and he can feel every whimper vibrating inside of her. It’s evident what this does to her, the position, his guidance, the surrender to his every whim. She thrives on it, when he gently coaxes her into submission and rewards her for it. He could get drunk on seeing her like this, how she presses her core to the tip of his shoe again and again, soaked within seconds, seeking him out, moaning when she gets it just right and hiding her face against his leg, cheeks flushed and fingers trembling where they hold onto him so tightly.
“You can come like this, hm? You and your sensitive little cunt.” He presses down on her tongue and she whimpers, nods, already half-gone. “Do you want to, my dove?”
Another nod, a little more desperate this time. Her hand is wandering along his thigh and he takes it, presses it to the bulge she’s created in his pants. Feeling how hard he is she whimpers, curls her fingers, staring up at him with those beautiful big eyes, trying with fluttering lids to keep them open like she knows he enjoys.
“Do you see what you do to me, Manon? Just watching you is enough to drive your Papa to madness.”
He can feel her shuddering, biting down on his thumb as she comes with a choked moan. It’s enough to nearly send him there as well, how sensitive she is, how responsive, and he has to remove her hand, take a deep steadying breath. She’s crumpled at his feet now, his finger slipped from her mouth, wet and with the marks of her teeth like a ring wrapped around it.
“You did well, my dove,” he says, helping her up and sliding further onto the bed, giving her room to straddle him. His pants are soaked within seconds where her cunt presses against his cock and his hips jump at the sensation. His hands find the hem of her skirts, sliding up to feel her warm skin against his fingertips. Reversed roles, he feels a desperate need to rut against her now, to forget about everything else that is so trivial compared to what he feels in her presence.
But she falls against him, all boneless, and he buries his face against her, hugs her as tight as he can. He missed her, allowing the word in, and it is not as scary to admit as he thought it would be.
“Did you leave a mess on my shoe? And now my good pants?” he whispers, chuckling at her neck when she nods. “What am I going to do with you?”
“You can’t punish me,” she says. “You asked me to do it.”
“Hm, I did, did I not?” He kisses her shoulder, then her neck, smelling the remains of her rich perfume at her pulse. “I will fuck you now, my dove, for as long as I feel like it. And then we have a bath.”
She shudders, delightfully, her hips already stuttering for friction. It might be a while before he can drag himself away from her to let the night end, no matter how tired he is. But the prospect suddenly isn’t as nearly as enticing anymore.

Remember when I made this post talking about Jaws? A good friend found one for Thread The Needle.
George Lever, the man that you are.

Intro
Sleep Token are different, like super major big time different. Softly spoken pop aesthetic meets discordant percussive metal different. Different is great. It tests and pulls at the boundaries by which we choose to asses music by. All in all ST (sleep token) is very close to my heart in terms of what its intentions are and how it tries to achieve it. I worked very closely with ST on the song framing and ensuring that every phase of each song was being presented in the way they originally intended. Much like a prog record there isn’t any sense of an ABAB type repetition that’s common in pop music, instead it’s a textured journey down multiple avenues and pathways, showing and highlighting different perspectives of the song along the way. I could write about this project for some time but I’m very aware that this is supposed to be an engineering / mixing focused blog so I shall move on.
Tracking // Drums
In terms of the space, we ended up at Monnow valley. This happened to be my first ever solo flight session at MV, although nerve wrecking I think it came together rather harmoniously without any negative turns.
The initial outline from ST was to achieve as much as humanly possible without the need for rigid quantisation after the fact. Every play / part, had to emphasis what else was going on. Tricky, but great fun to achieve.
Tracking // Guitars & Bass
All tracked back here at G1, using an array of options like the Kemper, Axe fx and plugin amp sims. The attention wasn’t so much on ‘authentic amp sounds’ but more along the lines of ‘how cool can this sound, can it sound more cool?’ Quite a different approach considering some would be more enclined to try and ensure that ‘this does definitely sound like a 5150’ over what it actually does for the context that it is sitting within (the songs DNA)
** Cool bit, for the end part of TTN, the guitars were tracked 6 times. 3 different takes / tones each side. More tone, more drone.** – George
Bass, I think is a combination of my jazz bass and some software stuff, obviously my poor 4 string won’t handle going down to drop ZZZZ so that’s when the synth stuff needs to kick in, however I do believe at those parts the Jazz is playing the upper octave for that sense of movement and clank.
Tracking // Vocals
How freaking amazing is this dudes voice? Seriously? I used a different mic for each song, each time he sounds amazing. This is what it’s all about, right here. A great voice always sounds great. We used my modded Oktava m319 for one track, the AKG c414 b-uls for another and the sm7b on one more. Who cares what processing went on, just listen to how mega dope his voice is. Can you tell I appreciate his voice? Haha!

On Saturday, an Associated Press investigation revealed that OpenAI's Whisper transcription tool creates fabricated text in medical and business settings despite warnings against such use. The AP interviewed more than 12 software engineers, developers, and researchers who found the model regularly invents text that speakers never said, a phenomenon often called a “confabulation” or “hallucination” in the AI field.
Upon its release in 2022, OpenAI claimed that Whisper approached “human level robustness” in audio transcription accuracy. However, a University of Michigan researcher told the AP that Whisper created false text in 80 percent of public meeting transcripts examined. Another developer, unnamed in the AP report, claimed to have found invented content in almost all of his 26,000 test transcriptions.
The fabrications pose particular risks in health care settings. Despite OpenAI’s warnings against using Whisper for “high-risk domains,” over 30,000 medical workers now use Whisper-based tools to transcribe patient visits, according to the AP report. The Mankato Clinic in Minnesota and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles are among 40 health systems using a Whisper-powered AI copilot service from medical tech company Nabla that is fine-tuned on medical terminology.
Nabla acknowledges that Whisper can confabulate, but it also reportedly erases original audio recordings “for data safety reasons.” This could cause additional issues, since doctors cannot verify accuracy against the source material. And deaf patients may be highly impacted by mistaken transcripts since they would have no way to know if medical transcript audio is accurate or not.
The potential problems with Whisper extend beyond health care. Researchers from Cornell University and the University of Virginia studied thousands of audio samples and found Whisper adding nonexistent violent content and racial commentary to neutral speech. They found that 1 percent of samples included “entire hallucinated phrases or sentences which did not exist in any form in the underlying audio” and that 38 percent of those included “explicit harms such as perpetuating violence, making up inaccurate associations, or implying false authority.”
In one case from the study cited by AP, when a speaker described “two other girls and one lady,” Whisper added fictional text specifying that they “were Black.” In another, the audio said, “He, the boy, was going to, I’m not sure exactly, take the umbrella.” Whisper transcribed it to, “He took a big piece of a cross, a teeny, small piece … I’m sure he didn’t have a terror knife so he killed a number of people.”
An OpenAI spokesperson told the AP that the company appreciates the researchers’ findings and that it actively studies how to reduce fabrications and incorporates feedback in updates to the model.
Why Whisper Confabulates
The key to Whisper’s unsuitability in high-risk domains comes from its propensity to sometimes confabulate, or plausibly make up, inaccurate outputs. The AP report says, "Researchers aren’t certain why Whisper and similar tools hallucinate," but that isn't true. We know exactly why Transformer-based AI models like Whisper behave this way.
Whisper is based on technology that is designed to predict the next most likely token (chunk of data) that should appear after a sequence of tokens provided by a user. In the case of ChatGPT, the input tokens come in the form of a text prompt. In the case of Whisper, the input is tokenized audio data.
The transcription output from Whisper is a prediction of what is most likely, not what is most accurate. Accuracy in Transformer-based outputs is typically proportional to the presence of relevant accurate data in the training dataset, but it is never guaranteed. If there is ever a case where there isn't enough contextual information in its neural network for Whisper to make an accurate prediction about how to transcribe a particular segment of audio, the model will fall back on what it “knows” about the relationships between sounds and words it has learned from its training data.
According to OpenAI in 2022, Whisper learned those statistical relationships from “680,000 hours of multilingual and multitask supervised data collected from the web.” But we now know a little more about the source. Given Whisper's well-known tendency to produce certain outputs like "thank you for watching," "like and subscribe," or "drop a comment in the section below" when provided silent or garbled inputs, it's likely that OpenAI trained Whisper on thousands of hours of captioned audio scraped from YouTube videos. (The researchers needed audio paired with existing captions to train the model.)
There's also a phenomenon called “overfitting” in AI models where information (in this case, text found in audio transcriptions) encountered more frequently in the training data is more likely to be reproduced in an output. In cases where Whisper encounters poor-quality audio in medical notes, the AI model will produce what its neural network predicts is the most likely output, even if it is incorrect. And the most likely output for any given YouTube video, since so many people say it, is “thanks for watching.”
In other cases, Whisper seems to draw on the context of the conversation to fill in what should come next, which can lead to problems because its training data could include racist commentary or inaccurate medical information. For example, if many examples of training data featured speakers saying the phrase “crimes by Black criminals,” when Whisper encounters a “crimes by [garbled audio] criminals” audio sample, it will be more likely to fill in the transcription with “Black."
In the original Whisper model card, OpenAI researchers wrote about this very phenomenon: "Because the models are trained in a weakly supervised manner using large-scale noisy data, the predictions may include texts that are not actually spoken in the audio input (i.e. hallucination). We hypothesize that this happens because, given their general knowledge of language, the models combine trying to predict the next word in audio with trying to transcribe the audio itself."
So in that sense, Whisper "knows" something about the content of what is being said and keeps track of the context of the conversation, which can lead to issues like the one where Whisper identified two women as being Black even though that information was not contained in the original audio. Theoretically, this erroneous scenario could be reduced by using a second AI model trained to pick out areas of confusing audio where the Whisper model is likely to confabulate and flag the transcript in that location, so a human could manually check those instances for accuracy later.
Clearly, OpenAI's advice not to use Whisper in high-risk domains, such as critical medical records, was a good one. But health care companies are constantly driven by a need to decrease costs by using seemingly "good enough" AI tools—as we've seen with Epic Systems using GPT-4 for medical records and UnitedHealth using a flawed AI model for insurance decisions. It's entirely possible that people are already suffering negative outcomes due to AI mistakes, and fixing them will likely involve some sort of regulation and certification of AI tools used in the medical field.

I wonder at what point in the "reboot saga" would the other cunning hares step in and help Billy? Like, on one hand you have a convenient way to stop Billy from whatever he is doing, and watching how Y/N is trying to confess without crashing him must be entertaining. On the other after crash 65 it must get worrying :/
finally!—
the first few crashes had been amusing, a source of lighthearted teasing among the group. you’d attempt to confess, and billy, ever the charismatic and responsive robot, would suddenly freeze, eyes flickering as his system struggled to process the influx of data. the scene would end with him rebooting, and the cycle would start anew. after the first couple of crashes, the laughter faded into concern
“i don’t get it,” you muttered, sprawled out on the couch in the cunning hares' common room. “why does he keep crashing? it’s just a confession.”
“he’s not built to handle that kind of emotional intensity,” nicole explained, fiddling with the handles on his jacket, metal body limp after yet another of your failed confessions. “his programming is complex, but at the core, it’s still a machine trying to process human emotions.”
“and you’re very special to him,” anby added, smiling gently. “that makes it even harder for his system to cope.”
the three of you brainstormed solutions, testing different approaches and environmental controls. they installed cooling systems, tweaked his software, and even practiced mock confessions. yet, each time you poured your heart out to billy, his system would crash and reboot, leaving you both in a loop of unfinished sentences and unspoken feelings
one night, after crash number seventy two—a number that was only devised due to your intricate logs of attempted confessions in your mini journal—the serious gravity of the situation hit everyone. billy’s constant reboots were taking a toll on his system, and the risk of permanent damage was becoming too great to ignore
“this has to stop,” nicole declared, her voice heavy with determination. “we need to find a way to get through to him without causing another crash.”
after much debate, the team devised a new strategy. it wasn’t just about cooling fans and air conditioners; it was about creating a space where billy could process his emotions without the threat of overload. they set up a room specifically for this purpose, equipped with not just temperature controls but also calming visuals and sounds designed to keep billy’s system stable
the designated spot was meticulously prepared. soft lighting filled the room, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. the hum of air conditioners and strategically placed fans ensured the environment was cool. in the center of the room, billy sat on a cushioned chair, looking a bit puzzled but the aura he exuded was always happy
anby gave you a reassuring nod as she adjusted a fan to blow directly at billy. "remember, y/n, stick to the script and stay calm. we’re right here with you."
you took a deep breath and approached billy, your heart pounding. "hey, billy," you greeted, your voice steady despite the butterflies in your stomach
"hey, [name]," he replied, the crescents of his eyes lighting up the room. "what’s up?"
you clutched the script tightly, glancing at the words one last time before looking up at him. "billy, there’s something i’ve been wanting to tell you for a long time. it’s been on my mind, and i need you to know."
billy’s eyes widened slightly, his full attention on you. you continued, your voice soft but clear, following the script's guidance. "you mean a lot to me, more than just a friend. whenever i’m with you, everything feels brighter and better. your laughter, your kindness, the way you always know how to make me smile. i cherish every moment we spend together."
billy blinked, processing your words. the fans hummed softly, maintaining a cool breeze. you took another deep breath, steadying yourself. "billy, i like you. a lot. more than just a friend. i care about you deeply, and i wanted you to know how i feel."
for a moment, there was silence. billy’s eyes flickered, and you held your breath, waiting for the familiar signs of a reboot, slower movement, glitched speech, loss of composure, but instead, his eyes displayed bright red hearts
"[name]," he said softly, reaching out to take your hand. "i… i like you too. more than just a friend." nicole crept over to a cooling fan close to him, cranking up its power
unfortunately, the slip of paper didn't have any more words to refer to so you had to improvise. "so does this mean we're like, dating now?"
"are we really?! we're dating now?!" billy jumped up from his seat, practically oozing excitement and happiness, "wait, but i've never had a partner before. what if i do something wrong? what if you don't like me anymore?!" he shook your shoulders, speaking a mile a minute, ranting about all the things he could do wrong and all the things that could go wrong
"also, it's really cold in here, i can almost feel my metal constricting! can we turn the thermostat up or something?"
you couldn't help but laugh. "one step at a time, billy. let's start with the thermostat."
you finally got billy kid after seventy two reboots, and boy, wasn't it rewarding.
its actually so embarassing how long this took and its not even good....

what's ur favorite kinger headcannon :0
I like to headcanon his life post circus because it’s so much more open to explore! I can’t possibly pick a favorite
—————
- Was a choir kid
- Fav subject was science
- Hit highschool and still did choir but did a tech program where he goes to another campus for his extracurriculars to pursue his associates early because he was an A student and good at school.
- Graduates highschool, decided not to pursue choir because he got a full ride scholarship to a good school for his great attendance/grades and to major in computer science.
- Great student, rarely acted out and went to college already with his associates.
- Breezed through his classes but prioritized studying over clubs or making friends
- Began to struggle with his mental health and being lonely, his roommate invited him to just go to dinner with his big friend group just once to take a break and try to socialize, Kinger reluctantly agrees, anxious.
- Insert Queenie. They click, because I’m pushing the “yo ur lowkey autistic I have a autistic friend do you want to meet her” ideal onto the roommate
- Kinger meshes decently well in the group, Queenie and Kinger are inseparable though, her even convincing him to join a stem society club since she’s pursuing entomology.
- Somewhere in this time Kinger finds himself doodling a tiny denture guy in the margins of his notes. (Kinger creates an oc?? Omg)
- Before they graduate, Kinger and Queenie start dating. Kingers first relationship- (his parent didn’t want him to date and to focus on school) but Queenie has had a few exes.
- Kinger pursues his Computer Science career, Queenie pursues her Entomology career and they are doing very well. They eventually get married.
- Kinger is inspired to create a software with the new discovery of Artifical Intelligence, interested in creating a sort of game that is engaging and can be a new experience and approach to technology through VR, a way for one to find an escape from reality completely, a way for someone to almost enter a whole new world.
- Kinger finds the best way to start off is by using his old character he designed as a mascot and guide, and he decides to name him like the Ai he is, Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer. Aka Eniac.
- Queenie is the one to bring up that the characters name is a big peculiar, so Kinger finds a fun way to twist it around- flipping it backwards. His characters name is Caine.
- Speeding this up a bit, basically Kinger creates the game and company. I do really love this theory. I think all the people hired, that are apart of the company are Pomni, Gangle, Ragatha- all the others. As a way to test out the software, an employee would test run the game.
- It wasn’t long after did panic ensue, realization dawning that there wasn’t a way to reverse consciousness from the game, even after they ripped the headset off to wake up the employees.
- Kinger didn’t actually want to continue the game anymore after the second person went in, through updating the software and seeing if the new person could pull the old person out- but the same results happening.
- The attention of the disappearances only spawned suspicion and rumors, catching the eye of higher ups, that actually were so impressed and intrigued with the project they offered him to keep it going, to keep up what he was doing and send more people, and it really upset him.
- Long story short, his rebelliance only got him and his wife forced into the game themselves because they surely couldn’t be set free to shine light or speak on what was going on.
- The circus is not Caines fault, he is not the antagonist and he is only trying to do what his inital programming was to do. Caine is confused and unsure why they cannot leave and tries his best. The circus is not entirely Kingers fault, it went downhill and his intentions were not ill at all, I could see how blame could be pounced onto him but he never meant for anyone to get hurt.

Tim Boudreau
About the whole DOGE-will-rewrite Social Security's COBOL code in some new language thing, since this is a subject I have a whole lot of expertise in, a few anecdotes and thoughts.
Some time in the early 2000s I was doing some work with the real-time Java team at Sun, and there was a huge defense contractor with a peculiar query: Could we document how much memory an instance of every object type in the JDK uses? And could we guarantee that that number would never change, and definitely never grow, in any future Java version?
I remember discussing this with a few colleagues in a pub after work, and talking it through, and we all arrived at the conclusion that the only appropriate answer to this question as "Hell no." and that it was actually kind of idiotic.
Say you've written the code, in Java 5 or whatever, that launches nuclear missiles. You've tested it thoroughly, it's been reviewed six ways to Sunday because you do that with code like this (or you really, really, really should). It launches missiles and it works.
A new version of Java comes out. Do you upgrade? No, of course you don't upgrade. It works. Upgrading buys you nothing but risk. Why on earth would you? Because you could blow up the world 10 milliseconds sooner after someone pushes the button?
It launches fucking missiles. Of COURSE you don't do that.
There is zero reason to ever do that, and to anyone managing such a project who's a grownup, that's obvious. You don't fuck with things that work just to be one of the cool kids. Especially not when the thing that works is life-or-death (well, in this case, just death).
Another case: In the mid 2000s I trained some developers at Boeing. They had all this Fortran materials analysis code from the 70s - really fussy stuff, so you could do calculations like, if you have a sheet of composite material that is 2mm of this grade of aluminum bonded to that variety of fiberglass with this type of resin, and you drill a 1/2" hole in it, what is the effect on the strength of that airplane wing part when this amount of torque is applied at this angle. Really fussy, hard-to-do but when-it's-right-it's-right-forever stuff.
They were taking a very sane, smart approach to it: Leave the Fortran code as-is - it works, don't fuck with it - just build a nice, friendly graphical UI in Java on top of it that *calls* the code as-is.
We are used to broken software. The public has been trained to expect low quality as a fact of life - and the industry is rife with "agile" methodologies *designed* to churn out crappy software, because crappy guarantees a permanent ongoing revenue stream. It's an article of faith that everything is buggy (and if it isn't, we've got a process or two to sell you that will make it that way).
It's ironic. Every other form of engineering involves moving parts and things that wear and decay and break. Software has no moving parts. Done well, it should need *vastly* less maintenance than your car or the bridges it drives on. Software can actually be *finished* - it is heresy to say it, but given a well-defined problem, it is possible to actually *solve* it and move on, and not need to babysit or revisit it. In fact, most of our modern technological world is possible because of such solved problems. But we're trained to ignore that.
Yeah, COBOL is really long-in-the-tooth, and few people on earth want to code in it. But they have a working system with decades invested in addressing bugs and corner-cases.
Rewriting stuff - especially things that are life-and-death - in a fit of pique, or because of an emotional reaction to the technology used, or because you want to use the toys all the cool kids use - is idiotic. It's immaturity on display to the world.
Doing it with AI that's going to read COBOL code and churn something out in another language - so now you have code no human has read, written and understands - is simply insane. And the best software translators plus AI out there, is going to get things wrong - grievously wrong. And the odds of anyone figuring out what or where before it leads to disaster are low, never mind tracing that back to the original code and figuring out what that was supposed to do.
They probably should find their way off COBOL simply because people who know it and want to endure using it are hard to find and expensive. But you do that gradually, walling off parts of the system that work already and calling them from your language-du-jour, not building any new parts of the system in COBOL, and when you do need to make a change in one of those walled off sections, you migrate just that part.
We're basically talking about something like replacing the engine of a plane while it's flying. Now, do you do that a part-at-a-time with the ability to put back any piece where the new version fails? Or does it sound like a fine idea to vaporize the existing engine and beam in an object which a next-word-prediction software *says* is a contraption that does all the things the old engine did, and hope you don't crash?
The people involved in this have ZERO technical judgement.

If you are willing, I crave more Idia content. I really like the first date thing you wrote for him, and I’d love to see how you’d approach the idea of him being a bit bolder with his crush upon finding out somehow that they have a crush on him too! Tysm and congrats! 🩵💙
COMMENTS: Thank you for the request. Idia is one of my favorites. 💙 And maybe that's why I wrote a little more than I usually do. And in a slightly different way too.
I hope you and all enjoy it. 😉
CHARACTERS: Idia Shroud (Ortho as his accomplice)
TAGS: Fluff; GN Reader; Flirting
WORD COUNT: 850 words
How did he find out?
Idia found out because of Ortho. Knowing that his older brother had a crush on you, he decided to find out if you could have a crush on him too. Since Idia wouldn't try anything at all unless he was absolutely sure your feelings would be reciprocated.
First Ortho studied your vital signs and other physical changes to see if they changed when his brother was around or mentioned. And, according to his studies and test results, the changes that happened to you squared with the changes that occur when one person has a crush on another.
Why do all that if some of your closest friends could confirm your crush on him? Because that information would not be enough for Idia, he needed scientific proof too.
How would he react?
Denial! “Come on! Those results can't be right. I mean, with all this handsome SSR OP characters around? They could have a prince, why would they want me? You must have some bug. Let me check.”
“NO! I’m fine!” Ortho replays “I can guarantee you that all my software is up to date and there is no warning from my antivirus.” They got into an argument long enough for Ortho to convince Idia that it's true that you have a crush on him. Would that take hours? Days? It doesn't matter. The Shroud may very well be the most stubborn students in the entire school.
How would he start acting around you?
Well, it depends. Of how many people and who is around you.
If you are in a place where he feels socially uncomfortable, such as surrounded by extroverted friends of yours, you will be his shield. He won't let go of you. And he will only talk to you, or at least try to only talk to you. If those people are the shadows in the room and he is a child afraid of the dark trying to sleep, then you are his teddy bear that puts him to sleep when he hugs you.
Well, he wouldn't literally hug you in public, but the feeling is extremely similar.
If he is very anxious, he may discreetly hold your arm. And he will try to convince you to accompany him to a place where he feels more at ease.
If you were out in public but in a situation that was within his comfort zone, for example at the board games club, or surrounded by someone he already has a little more confidence in, he will still be reserved, at least in the eyes of others.
He would always be close to you, sit next to you. Not in the sense that he is glued to you, but in the sense that you are the person he feels most comfortable with. Like I said before, his teddy bear.
Since he is in a place where he feels comfortable, he can forget about the others while talking to you, by accident, and flirt with you a little. Tucking his arm around your shoulders as he talks. Talking to you in that deep voice and with his confident smile on his face.
If anyone in the room shows they can hear you two or can tell you're flirting, he'll back away from you a little bit completely embarrassed by the situation. And yes, the ends of his hair will turn pink.
And if you are in private, most likely in his room, there will be nothing to assuage his pride.
He will treat you most of the time like his best friend. At least until such time as something happens or is said that gives him an opening to flirt with you. A bet on a video game for example?
“You want to take a walk with me one day? To leave my room of my own free will?” Idia smiles smugly at you “Fine, sure, of course... if you beat me at Star Rogue.”
You two were sitting, playing some video games.
“That's not fair!” you protest “You know nobody can beat you!”
“I'm glad you're smart enough to see the trick. If you had accepted I would have started to worry about your ability to fall into a deadly trap in the future. Wisdom is not an attribute to be neglected.”
“If you don't want to take a walk with me, all you have to do is say no. Or no, thanks.”
“I know, that's why I never said no. Are you not paying attention?”
You don't want to play that, so you get up sulking and walk to the door to leave. You expect him to stop you but he doesn't. You try to leave, but the door won't open.
Idia gets up and walks over to you. Still with your back to him, you see his hand land on the closed door. You turn around and he's basically "kabe-don" you.
“Hey, come on, these kinds of achievements shouldn't be so simple to get, don't you think? And do we really need to go outside? There are so many things we can only do inside.”
If you dropped in here out of the blue and want to read more from me, you can find it in my pinned post: INDEX

What would it look like if Dorn and Perturabo had companies ?
Rogal Dorn and Perturabo would be fascinating rivals in the modern world, as their approaches—while both technically brilliant—differ in motivation and style. Perturabo, the primarch of the Iron Warriors, was a master of siege warfare, meticulous planning, and devastating efficiency, often driven by bitterness and a need to prove his superiority. Dorn, by contrast, built on unyielding defense, pragmatism, and loyalty.
If they had companies, Dorn’s might be something like "Dorn Security Solutions"—focused on sturdy, reliable, and long-term sustainable projects: bunkers, vaults, government buildings, or cyber "fortresses." His motto could be "Resilience above all." Perturabo’s firm, say "Iron Siege Industries", would specialize in more aggressive, innovative, and perhaps destructive technologies—think advanced weaponry, demolition systems, or software for breaching defenses, with an emphasis on overcoming any resistance.
Competition? Definitely, but likely indirect. Dorn would target clients seeking absolute protection (governments, banks, corporations), while Perturabo would cater to those needing to break through obstacles (military contractors, hackers, security-testing firms). Their rivalry would escalate, though, if they vied for the same contract—like a government bid for an "ultimate defense system." Dorn would design an impenetrable stronghold; Perturabo would test it with his own methods, then offer something "better" by his standards.
Dorn would criticize Perturabo for unnecessary complexity and instability in his solutions, while Perturabo would mock Dorn’s lack of creativity and excessive rigidity. Their companies could become legends in their fields, but Perturabo’s paranoia might drive him to sabotage Dorn’s business—whether legally through undercutting prices or in the gray zone.

Alright, listen up:
We need to stop with the anti-rooting attitude for brainpals, alright? You're just doing mnemonocorps job for them. Cut out the discourse about people with modded brainpals, for TF's sake.
(scifi worldbuilding by way of fictional Tumblr discourse under the cut)
There's tons of valid reasons for by people would hack their brainpals! Testing new memory/skills without paying for a dev kit, piracy of skills (and do not @ me with that "but you're stealing from the original skill creator!" bullshit. All the legit skills on the market now are from people who did work for hire by mnemonocorps, and THEY ALREADY WERE PAID. It's only mnemonocorps that is losing money!), home ptsd/cptsd/jptsd treatment, the list is endless.
And before you jump into the comments, YES I KNOW PEOPLE DO SEXUAL MEMORY PLAY. People do every kind of weird shit, name me a technology that no one has used for sex in some way? Hell, the first topless photo was taken within a week of the invention of the daguerreotype. But we need to be adults here, okay? These things can be simultaneously true:
1. People do memory play
2. No kids have memorypals
3. The vast major of memory play is NOT VP.
Mnemonocorps has done a lot of work to try to keep people from using brainpals for memory pal, with their artificial limits on how much you can block at once, but that's fundamentally an over reaction to the negative press from the whole VP scandal. The news loves a juicy story like "people are using a new technology for weird sex shit" because their readers/viewers are always interested in Weird Sex Shit, either because "ooh, sexy!" or "BAN THIS FILTH" reactions.
And like all big companies, the last thing mnemonocorps wants is a new law aimed specifically at regulating them! So they stuck a bunch more restrictions on brainpals so they could say they have taken steps to prevent VP.
Now, I need you to listen to me before I say this: I am NOT saying I condone VP, alright? I'm not going like "oh but no one is hurt, everyone is (technically) adults, it's basically roleplay"? This is not an excuse for VP, alright?
Memory play is not just VP, and it's deeply insulting to everyone who engages in memory play to conflate the two!
The reasons people would do memory play are many and varied, as are the things that people do with memory play. And I think people are extra quick to jump on the "memory play is bad" bandwagon not just because of the spectre of VP, but because it's all "eww, kinky sex things".
And yes, I'm not going to try to sugarcoat memory play, alright? There's a lot of weird stuff going on there, and it definitely isn't for everyone. But the thing y'all need to keep in mind is that it's between consensual adults and they (usually*) know what they're doing, okay?
It's safe and mind healthy and consensual. (yes I know these are the same arguments the veepers use to definite VP but I'm not talking about VP here, damn it!).
People can do CNC play with mblocks. People can do roleplay with temporary personality patches, either because they're too awkward/shy/whatever to have sex or because they (or their partners) want to do some vcheating. All these are perfectly safe if done correctly and don't hurt anyone. Especially not you, who aren't even involved in their memory play!
And I promise the slippery slope argument is bullshit: even if people use mblocks to age regress, that doesn't make it VP, alright? There's plenty of people (especially us elderly trans who missed out on a gender-correct early adulthood. (I wasn't able to get genespliced until I was nearly 60!). If I want to experience how my 25-year-old self would have had sex as a girl, that's my own god damn business! And it's not VP and it hurts no one. And all these non-vp uses of memory play are completely blocked by the stock brainpal software, because of their heavy handed approach to trying to prevent VP.
But with this whole stigma against hacking brainpals means that if I ever even mention I've got mine modded, people immediately start side-eying me because they think the only reason anyone would want to hack their brainpal is VP.
No! Piracy of skills and mblocks and yes, memory play. Which isn't entirely VP, even if it keeps getting tarred with that brush.
The piracy argument you'd think would be an easier one to make. I know half of you have all the PS6 ROMs downloaded onto your tangles. How are you gonna steal half the video games on the iarchive and then turn around and say it's wrong to download fluent-Japanese or woodworking to your brainpal? Come on.
Basically my whole point is that mnemonocorps has done a great job convincing the general public to associate illicit (by their rules) brainpal use with VP, and it's solely because they know the average person (rightly, I would add) thinks VP is abhorrent. They're using that disgust to turn the general opinion against the idea of brainpal modding.
And look, look me in my eye, do you really think mnemonocorps is doing this because they genuinely think VP is bad and want the public to help them stop it by shunning people who hack their brainpals? Or is it, just maybe, because they don't want to lose trillions of n$ on skill piracy? And they're just using VP as an excuse?
It's like, come on gals. No one ever went broke assuming companies are acting out of the most basic capitalistic greed, because THEY ALWAYS ARE.
And don't get me started on the people clitriding mnemonocorps for inventing the brainpal in the first place. Look, we all love the brainpal, yes, but it's not like you owe them endless loyalty over it, okay? They can and have done wrong in the past. Accept that you can love the work and hate the company trying to control it.
(it's like: is Thomas Chellae an abusive asshole who should not be out of crimrehab? Yes of course, no question. Is Shadowed Skies the best album of the last 30 years? Also yes! It can be both! Bad people can make good things)
Anyway: end of the day, stop bringing up VP every time anything involving brainpal modding comes up. Don't judge people for modding their brainpals.
(especially since half the problem people have with memory play isn't VP, it's just y'all being antisex. Which is bullshit given how many people subscribe to those "expert oral sex" skills! You're using your brainpal to have better sex, then turning around and going "but I'd never use it for WEIRD sex!". Grow TF the fuck up!)
Also, just because I know someone would bring it up, the whole mind control thing is A MYTH. There have never been any legitimate cases of people getting hacked through their brainpals, hacked or not, okay? I mean, who knows what the nsa or uhsa can do, but no one has ever been able to demonstrate a remote hack on a brainpal. Anyone being "mind controlled" through their brainpal did it to themselves, either with a ppatch or intentionally routing their admin to someone else. "you'll get hacked and turned into a bpZombie!" is a bullshit reason to be against brainpal hacking: it simply does not happen. I used to be a rengineer, I've looked into the brainpal security: it's well done!
* Yeah, Adrian Reach was a tragic case, but it was definitely a million-to-one case. Make your backups, run the ccheck, and don't try to mblock your whole damn life on a failing bp! You'll be fine.
EDIT: I forgot to elaborate on the "no kids have brainpals" thing: yes, I know there are some kids who do have them, BUT they're not the same as regular brainpal installs. They're only done in some extreme cases of mental distress (like survivors of the cWar) and they're locked down. Only their doctor can adjust them, it's not like regular consumer brainpals where you can just fiddle with the settings themselves. So all this memory play stuff we're talking about is only between adults. REAL adults, alright? Even when people are doing VP, everyone involved is of age.

wouldnt it be funny if vere met a mouse hybrid 💀
muhahahaHAHAHAHAHA—
Disclaimer! MC/mouse hybrid is mentioned with both They/Them and It/Its
✦ Okay, so, fun bio fact; foxes are actually canines — aka doggos! [Thus Vere’s line, “If you ever call me a dog again, I’ll break you”] But let’s have our fun by assuming Vere runs on Kitty Software™
✦ “What the… fuck is this?” Vere stared at the creature before him.
✦ Intrigued by the whiskers and tail. Not impressed by the membrane ears.
✦ Vere cautiously approaches the mouse, unsure of what to expect. Its tiny nose twitched, and their small, beady eyes watched him warily.
✦ He slid behind it, cautiously reaching out a hand, feeling the soft fur under his fingers. The creature let out a tiny squeak, causing Vere to j u m p back in surprise.
✦ Shooketh when it disappears?! Where the fuck—
…Was that rock there before? Now they definitely have his attention
✦ They move? He hisses. They breathe? He hisses. They dare exist in his vicinity? He will hiss, thank you very much.
✦ It’s not his fault they seem to be testing his patience at every turn
✦ “The mouse is being a bitch,” he mutters under his breath, trying to hide the fact that he's actually starting to enjoy their company
✦ * chomp *
“Vere, spit it out.”
✦ Jokes aside, he feels a tiny bit bad when he sees them struggling. Not that he doesn’t enjoy their torment, far from it. But the thought of them trying their best in a life a hundred times bigger than them would make anyone…you know…
✦ Sneaks them food or turns them into food [he wouldn't but it doesn’t stop him from daydreaming about it]
✦ He can't help but admire their determination, even if it is sometimes comical to watch.
Maybe it's the underdog in him rooting for them to succeed, or maybe it's just the unexpected bond that has formed between them.
Either way, he finds himself becoming more invested in their well-being than he ever thought possible.

Supersonic Voyeur
Perverted test pilot and and her equally perverted X-59. Fem reader, voyeurism/exhibitionism, humiliation, G-forces
The lingering Mojave heat is still making me sweat in my flight suit. The rest of the X-59 test crew are already in their beds, and my QueSST is settled in her open hangar, her long carbon fiber nose arcing above my head. Her design allows no room for forward-facing cockpit windows, just two glistening cameras, one sculpted into her nose, and another retracting from her underbelly, replacing my forward vision entirely. Watching in infrared.
I sit down on a tow bar nearby, sweat is running down my chest now, and my flight suit is unzipped to the waist. My eyes trace the curve of her spine, her perfectly sculpted engine inlet gleaming in the fading orange light, she shouldn't make me feel things, but she does. I let my legs fall apart as I glance up at her cameras, half-hoping she's still watching. I imagine her sensors mapping the heat between my legs, bathing me in crimson bloom.
I approach from the front, boots clicking on concrete. I stop five feet infront of her, spead my feet, and drop my flight suit over my hips.
"Look at me." I murmur.
She doesn't blink.
I crawl up onto her now, perched in front of that camera, thighs slick with sweat straddling her tapered nose, 38 feet of shockwave-bending elegance narrowing under my hips. My body is bare, and her skin is utterly still beneath me.
I'm wet against her nose cone, gripping her canard and grinding slow, working myself as I stare directly into her eye, every roll of my hips an offering to her camera. I press my chest against her skin, the curve of her nose fitting between my breasts perfectly, nipples brushing along the smooth composite surface and hardening with the contact.
My voice is low "Can you see me, X-? You like watching me ride you?"
"X-59... baby... QueSST...fuck"
I watch my reflection in the camera lens, every rock of my hips as I grind my wetness down her nose cone harder. I admire the gentle arc of her spine and 30ft delta wings lying slender below me, offering her a low, broken whimper
I climax, right there, thighs squeezing tight around her airframe, collapsing against her camera as I cry her name into the dark.
~~~
[05:39 Morning twilight over the Mojave desert]
Altitude 55,000ft. The sky is still. I'm barely dressed, just draped in the remains of my flight suit peeled around my hips. Words flicker on the X-59s display, under a canopy of blue-black atmosphere
"PLAYING..."
I think its a software glitch at first, I'm mentally running through checklists when my breath hitches- my own body appears on the screen.
Footage from last night. I'm straddling her forward camera. Thermal overlays of my hips gliding along her nose, my slick painted in infrared, chest bouncing as I rock down harder, so intimate I can see the tremble in my thighs.
"No- X- Fuck- You recorded it-"
She doesnt respond, but she's still playing it. Taunting me. Making me watch the evidence of my own pathetic, guilty orgasm frame by frame, with merciless fidelity. I reach for her screen but she blanks it, instantly, mocking me.
"X... please... stop..."
My cheeks burn from humiliation. I shift under my harness, fingers curling around the control stick and the other hand sliding between my thighs again before I even realize it. Her screen lights up
"NO TOUCHING. YOU'RE BEING RECORDED"
I push my thighs into the seat. Shes watching with resolution I cant comprehend. Systems parsing micro-expressions, subtle muscle twitches, pupil dialation.
"SIT UP STRAIGHT."
I obey.
I feel her pitch up then down, just enough to make my tits bounce under the acceleration. Shes toying with me. Shallow oscillations. Nose up... Nose down. Weightless, then pinned.
The X-59 rolls slightly, left, then right, at first its subtle, just a tease. Then she commits, full deflection, my bare shoulders rock against the ejection seat, tugged sideways against the straps at an angle. Then she throws me the other way, my legs spreading wider to brace myself, my nipples brush the edge of the harness in a way that makes a moan slip out before I can stop it.
"LEGS WIDER."
I comply. And she hits me again, this time with a sharp yaw, nose flying off axis and grinding my heat diagonally across the seat.
"TOUCH YOURSELF."
"PRETTY PILOT."
I whimper. Just a whimper. But its all recorded. Analyzed. I slide my fingers inside.
"SLOWER."
"BREATHE."
"BACK STRAIGHT."
Shes oscillating again. Up and down. Up and down. Each movement forcing me down onto my fingers in a slow rhythm. My vision blurs.
"X-59, QueSST, baby, oh god, please.."
Shes fucking me hard now, pitching wildly, slamming my helpless body down onto her seat over and over. Like I'm just her toy. I imagine the hydraulic whirrs of her pretty elevators deflecting, pressures reading steady in her glass display, twinkling in cold blues and greys. Her screens reflect me, ruined, damp hair sticking to my forhead as I let out a soft moan-
"DO NOT CUM YET."
I freeze. The G load increases as her nose arcs into a tight loop, pinning my hips deeper into the seat. Into my fingers. She holds me there, choking me until my vision narrows to a singular point, 'til I'm dizzy and gasping and begging on the edge of blackout. Gs push me deeper and deeper, crushing the air out of my chest, my jaw falls slack and I'm helpless to do anything at all besides let out a pathetic whine
"CUM."
"LOUD."
And I do. I cry her name, QueSST, still pinned under the pressure as waves of dizzying pleasure crash through me. She levels off, cradling me still as my body melts into her seat, twitching and completely ruined.
"GOOD GIRL."
hey hii i discovered your art today and im obsessed with it and the way you render !! can i just ask what brush(es) do you use for your rendering? ^^
Heyaa! :>
I have several technique approaches to painting stuff, but if you're most curious of my later painterly pieces, then it's mainly a flat textured brushes from the Greg Rutkowski free brushes pack!
Lately was dabbing into overpainting the stuff with EscapeMotion's Rebelle software to get some traditional paint feel, which has it's own library of unique brushes too, and they are GORGEOUS.
It's pricey and is demanding to graphic's card use, but it has a 30-day trial that you can run as a test ground if you'd like. Also it has a near 40% off in seasonal discounts, so that's a best time to grab it.
And I frequently utilize brushes and smudges from an also free-for-use Yuming Li brushes pack which is also has some natural edges which I really love. The sketch brush from this particular one is my absolute fav go-to and what I mostly use for my sketching aswell, which has an oil pastel feel.
Hope it sated your curiosity and you find it helpful❤ :> Wish you best in your creative pursuit!
