It is just after midnight and I finished my Dreamling Week queue - about 150 posts over the course of the week, so not A TON, but it's everything I had in my drafts. I will also be reblogging pretty much everything I see over the week, so that should make up for it.
The first post in the queueueueue for tomorrow morning is a lil Dreamling Masterpost I made - small yet, but I'm hoping it will continue to grow! I will pin it as soon as it posts in the morning.
For now, bed!

there are some headcanons where it's like. 'i would enjoy this as a light seasoning in fic but certain chunks of the fandom have become more committed to this than the actual canon and made it load-bearing in scenarios where it simply doesn't make sense'.

The other thing about the Kirk-Uhura brotp that I have many feelings about:
Of all the ~430 positions filled by people on the Enterprise, I'd argue that there are none for which outwards composure is more important than for the communications officer and the commanding officer. Above all others on the ship, those two have to stay cool under pressure and retain the ability to keep talking (often to large numbers of people), while projecting unfaltering assurance and resolve.
As individuals, Kirk and Uhura have obviously put a lot of effort into developing that bedrock of composure, while also being pleasant or assertive as needed. Throughout TOS, they both come across as confident, charismatic, very skilled, eloquent professionals. Both of them can be lightly charming and easy to underestimate, or sharp-tongued and forceful, and both of them are clever and good liars.
But tbh, I think that TOS also gradually reveals both Kirk and Uhura to be incredibly high-strung people who are just really good at their jobs.
It's not that either is naturally easy-going and chill! As people, Kirk and Uhura have zero chill. They're just very controlled and very deliberate about projecting what's needed.
Neither are perfect at this by any means. Kirk lashes out now and then, and visibly fights off tension headaches or anxiously fiddles with his own hands. Uhura gets intensely nervous or upset every once in awhile. There are points in the show where one of them will just start losing their shit. But that's unusual, and mainly used to flag the circumstances as exceptional. And even in those cases, we repeatedly see them swapping the role of being a calm and reliable rock for the other one as he/she is about to snap. When Kirk's composure starts to crumble, we'll often see Uhura as this steadying, quietly supportive, or challenging presence as needed; when Uhura starts falling apart, we repeatedly see Kirk flip into a calm, affirming figure taking pains to remind her of her importance and capabilities.
I think this is a bit different from the way that, say, Spock works to keep an iron grip on his vulnerabilities and adheres to cool reason while doing Science, or McCoy might get snappish or plainly desperate but always has a clear enough head for Medicine. Kirk's and Uhura's roles, at least as they choose to approach them, require these constant performances of a sort of lightly emotive, personable steadiness that keeps the whole ship smoothly running even as they're doing the intellectual/practical work of their jobs.
Also, in addition to the explicit dialogue around their professional synergy and rapport, quite a bit is carried by physical acting from Nichols and Shatner as well. For instance, we'll see Uhura's expression shift without a word to dawning realization around some Scheme or Shenanigans that Kirk is carrying out while people around her are still visibly ?????????? Or you'll see these moments of solidarity or trust in how Kirk physically carries himself towards Uhura. It's also made really clear that there is zero sexual attraction or romantic interest between them—they're both charming, attractive, intelligent, and even close in age but it's just not there at all, even repressed or stifled.
In any case, Uhura is the only person other than Spock whom Kirk feels the need to name both times that he records potentially-posthumous special commendations in TOS.
Kind of-neurotic-but-hypercompetent platonic duo of my heart <3

honestly, you just need one look into whitaker’s eyes to know his soul is truly Tired and i feel like that’s why robby sometimes listens to him, so maybe whitaker having the saddest, wettest eyes imaginable is our only hope for therapy!robby.

Me when I saw a tiktok from a marauders fan talking about their love of Harry being from the fact that Harry is exactly like his parents, so I just have to vibrate in place while mentally screaming, “YOU MISSED THE POINT! HOW DID YOU MISS THE POINT? HE HAS TRAITS, HES NOT THEM COMPLETELY”
Everyone treats him as the ghosts of his parents, but in reality, beyond his physical characteristics, his personality and interests barely line up with them. There’s an entire scene in book 5 with Sirius about this exact thing guys!!! Sirius treats Harry like he’s a mini James when he’s not and he’s shocked when he doesn’t act like him.
Yes he loves quidditch (seeker, not chaser like James), yes he’s a Gryffindor (almost sorted Slytherin which as far as we’re aware neither of them were), yes he was raised in the muggle world like Lily (BUT IN A COMPLETELY DIF FAMILY STRUCTURE), his favorite subject is defense!! Which was neither of their favorite even if James became an auror, his fav was transfiguration!
Both James and Lily were considered exceptionally bright, Harry is average when it comes to grades.
We barely know anything about their canonical personalities beyond what is told by other characters in the books to Harry, but Dumbledore describes Harry to Snape as having more of the personality to Lily then James, including less of an ego and arrogance.
But even with that comparison, there are still noticeable differences between Lily and his personality, such as his anger being more pronounced, but him being more willing to forgive.

my system has had to help a very loud.. very aggressive alter.. well, calm down. he’s still very loud, but he just enjoys screaming!! he’s learned to be less mean to headmates/herself/others!! i honestly think it would be interesting if instead of them.. like.. eradicating the “evil voice”(????) they just!! yaknow!! talk!!!! communication between headmates is very important!! it’s how we make sure things run smoothly and get someone out of front if they can’t handle it!!! moonpaw and voice friendship..
Daring to hope that maybe we can see something like this play out. It would be fresh and interesting for this arc to feature a lot of self-reflection and communication-- in fact, I feel like that was missing from the last one. A lack of Sunbeam or Nightheart actually introspecting about their issues, neither identifying nor truly working through them, just progressing as characters when the plot needed them to.
I'm loving the story of Moonie that's being "woven" by systems coming into the inbox. Most pwDID seem to agree that conflict between Headpaw/Starpaw and Moonpaw isn't the problematic part, it's the "villainization" of the voice. The "vibe" is the desire to see Headpaw/Starpaw being treated as a person within the narrative, not just as a malicious "entity."
Even without this being about representation (tho that is still important), isn't that just... refreshing?
Aren't we tired of Evil Spirit influencing the cats to do bad stuff, while Good Spirit influences them to do good stuff? Do we really need another Ashfur so soon? Wouldn't it be nice if there was some narrative, textual nuance to the situation for once?

show: *let’s their characters have flaws that come out in not-so-favorable ways, and engage in arguments and disagreements. lets their characters be wrong just as much as they can be right. let’s their characters be people rather than products that must be likeable and morally correct 100% of the time. let’s the characters’ personalities and opinions dictate their actions, rather than the plot just floating them along.*
me, sniffing the air: this…… is the smell of a well written show

Also, after all my years of using the Project Gutenberg etext of P&P, I only today noticed that one of the illustrations is of a scene we don't actually "see" in the book but that's hilarious to think about: Lady Catherine telling Darcy about Elizabeth's outrageous!!!! refusal of her demands. It's not my favorite style of art but I kind of love this one:
Tumblr media
Details I love include:
Lady Catherine's sheer indignation and Darcy's "..." response.
Lady Catherine's hat feathers, and the inevitable fur edge of her ... pelisse? I always forget my fashion terms. Also, that Darcy doesn't have his cane but Lady Catherine does.
Darcy's height and spindly legs (though I don't like the curls; I picture Darcy as one of those people with very straight, smooth, thick hair that refuses to hold a curl).
Lady Catherine and Darcy having the same nose.
What I'm guessing is a pianoforte for Georgiana to play on the side of the room despite the fact that Georgiana's status and wealth allows for her own separate residence.

I’m genuinely pissed off by how they handled Langdon this episode. There was not a single bit of conclusion to his arc whatsoever. Not him going to rehab, nothing. Is he even going to be in season 2? Is Patrick Ball even coming back? It’s literally a waste of a story arc imo
i totally get this reaction because i, too, had convinced myself we were going to get some resolution on langdon in the finale, but i also do understand where the pitt writers are coming from.
there was just no way to get from point A to point B with langdon in the time we had left. i've been skeptical of langdon being willing to admit he had a problem/needed rehab by the end of the season, but i thought he'd realize he was cornered and eventually relent just to keep his job.
it's very common for those with addictions to need to hit rock bottom before they're willing to get help. and i think langdon knowing about robby's breakdown shut down any possibility of him agreeing to rehab this episode because langdon still feels like he has some light at the end of the tunnel (i.e., robby might not turn him in).
so yeah, i think we're supposed to be frustrated because the reality of addiction is frustrating. i am 100% positive that langdon will figure it out and get the help he needs at some point. i am also 100% positive that he will be appearing in s2 because he's incredibly important to the story.
in the meantime, though, i'm super excited to see the analysis and creativity that will undoubtedly come out of this open-ended conclusion we got for langdon. it's gonna be fun!
