When Anakin wakes, it’s to the feeling of Obi-Wan’s fingers carding through his hair.

It takes a moment for him to blink the room into focus. He’s still stretched out on the couch, his head pillowed on Obi-Wan’s lap. The holoscreen in front of them is dark; he hadn’t intended to drift off, not when the holofilm had only just started, but the comfortable warmth of his favorite cold-weather tunic, along with Obi-Wan’s gentle, reassuring presence in the Force, had clearly been too much for him. 

Their most recent mission—a high-stakes reconnaissance effort—hadn’t been a long one. But it had been demanding, physically and mentally. Before they’d even returned home, Obi-Wan had put in a request for a few extra days of leave. 

Anakin wants to take advantage of that time. He doesn’t want to waste it kriffing sleeping. But… There’s something perfect about waking up like this. Maybe it’s the way Obi-Wan’s touch lights up every nerve; maybe it’s the fact that they have nowhere to be, and nothing to do but be together.

“Sorry,” Anakin says, finally turning to look up at Obi-Wan. “Didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“You were tired,” Obi-Wan replies easily, a soft smile curving his lips. The corners of his eyes crinkle as he meets Anakin’s gaze. “Besides,” he reasons, glancing briefly at the dark screen, “it was one we’ve seen before.” 

Anakin concedes with a small huff of a laugh. They sit in companionable silence, Obi-Wan still combing lightly through his curls, until Obi-Wan’s focus is drawn to Anakin’s jaw. 

“This is looking better,” Obi-Wan says, studying Anakin’s newest scar. His expression grows thoughtful as he moves his hand down to trace his thumb slowly over the fading line. “I love you,” he murmurs, his quiet sincerity an incandescent echo in the Force. “I���m afraid I don’t tell you enough.”

“You tell me plenty,” Anakin insists, his heart thumping in his chest. He reaches up to cover Obi-Wan’s hand with his own. “I love you too. I know I tell you too much, but… I like saying it.”

With a look of utter fondness, Obi-Wan replies, “I like hearing it.”

How do you become a beta reader without sounding like you’re saying that you think their writing needs help? I want to be an editor some day, so I’ve been commenting on people’s works to build relationships/recognition. I’m worried that asking someone if they need an editor would sound like a criticism?

This is a fantastic question, and a concern I've absolutely shared. IMO (and this goes for both editing and being a beta-reader) I think it's about framing your request as building a connection, rather than merely editing their work. I'll preface this by saying that these are just suggestions from my personal experience... this is not exhaustive! Also, we're all unique flavours of humans, so not all fic writers might agree with what I've included below.

As much as it may surprise people, many writers (even the most popular ones) can often feel a bit of trepidation and self-consciousness about posting a work publicly. It's scary as fuck to share a labour of your love, especially not knowing if it will get the attention you want. Because, as much as we tell ourselves that we write fic for ourselves (which we do!), it also feels damn good to get those comments and kudos. So having someone to cheer you on and work collaboratively to help you put forward your best work is amazing (though I'm sure it's also not for everyone).

So... back to that connection! IMO... just ask (a dm is probably best, rather than a public comment though)! You could start by say that your a fan of their work and that, while you absolutely don't think they need a beta, you'd love the chance to collaborate with them, if it's something they've ever considered. The worst they can say is no!

If they agree, the most important part is then asking how they'd like you to show up for them. Do they just want spelling and grammar? Do they only want suggestions on plot and flow? Do they just want you to cheer them on as they write? Some unique combination of the above? This part is really about getting to know them as an author because, as a beta, your job isn't to edit their voice out of their work, but to provide suggestions (and I stress suggestions) for ways to make that voice shine.

All in all, the writer/beta relationship is a very special connection to make (I'm looking at you @tideswept, @mischievouschan4, @stardustnsunshine, @innominatta, @sopherfly, & @boguspreston 👀).

Writing advice question - what do you do when you just hit a wall with a piece? (I've got a prompt fill I've written 3 different versions of and I'm not happy with any of them.) Do you just keep writing until something good comes out? Or does it vary depending on what you're working on?

It varies a lot.

Sometimes i just put the fic on hold for a while. (Sometimes I give up on it entirely.)

Sometimes I force myself to write one sentence a day until I get past the block.

Sometimes I skip the scene I don’t want to write and move on to the scenes I do. (Sometimes it turns out that the scene I didn’t want to write wasn’t necessary anyway.)

Sometimes I whine at @tisfan and she 1) helps me figure out why I’m blocked, 2) helps me figure out what I want to happen next, 3) gets really excited about whatever it is, which replenishes my enthusiasm, and/or 4) drags me off to write something else until I get back in the habit of Making The Words Go. (Having a writing friend is Very Useful.)

That probably was entirely unhelpful, but that’s my answer. Sorry if it didn’t help much!

Obi-Wan is more relaxed now. The lingering tension in his muscles, leftover from too many hours teaching lightsaber forms, has eased. Maybe he ought to take Anakin’s suggestion and sleep.

Then again, as Anakin himself has pointed out many times before, there are better, more pleasurable ways to spend an afternoon alone.

Obi-Wan’s cock stirs with interest. Surrendering to the urge to touch himself, on the couch of all places, is far more tempting than it has any right to be. Given the option, he’d much rather fuck Anakin than his own fist. But Anakin is… impatient. Obi-Wan rarely gets the chance to savor every touch.

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year? I don't usually go to the cinema, but I did go to see "Jurassic World: Dominion" to pamper my dinosaur-obsessed inner child. The movie is not perfect, but I enjoyed it ♥.

What do you usually wear? Jeans, sneakers, and some t-shirt. If it's for work, boots, jeans and a shirt.

Padawan gen fics (a lot are discipline... okay, you know who you're asking, right?):

Truants and Trains by @adaliak and @peachybitters - Sometimes padawans just need to blow off a little steam. But when Obi-Wan Kenobi skips class at the Temple to go into the city with Quinlan Vos, they might end up learning a different type of lesson.

A Mountain Retreat by @peachybitters - Obi-Wan and his young Padawan, Anakin, go to stay with friends in the mountains of Alderaan. Anakin learns to love snow, and finds new ways to get himself into trouble. Mistakes are made and lessons are learned, and a lot of fun is had along the way.

When the Master's Away... by @adaliak (not technically a discipline fic, but it has vibes) - When Obi-Wan goes out, leaving Anakin alone, the mischievous Padawan decides to flaunt all his master's rules. As always with Anakin, disaster ensues.

qui-gon jinn and his two disaster children by @dells-bells - Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated the Sith Lord Darth Maul, an extraordinary and heroic act which earned him promotion from Padawan learner to Jedi Knight. Qui-Gon Jinn survived his near-brush with death, and after much deliberation and some reluctance, the Jedi Council granted him permission to take on the training of the young Anakin Skywalker as his new Padawan learner.
