attention all Gregory/GGY fans!!

i've recently been considering hosting a fanweek centered around GGY in honor of its first anniversary in around a month!

the week would take place from February 29th to March 7th. march 7th is the release date of the book GGY so it would be leading up to then!

a prompt list of 7 days, each day having two word prompts and one AU prompt would be given and each participant would create a drawing/fanfiction centered around it!

making 7 works for each day is not required. this is all for fun, so even if you only do 5 works, or even 2 its all cool!

the prompt list would be released weeks early before the week actually begins to give each participant time to create what they want without stressing over making something each day. each person would then post everything theyve made on its respective day during the week.

each prompt would of course be centered around GGY/Gregory! its a free for all with AU's and interpretations. youll have the choice each day to pick a very widespread word prompt that could cover lots of ground or an AU prompt to make something specifically for that.

all characters go. if you chose a prompt and wanted to make it about GGY himself, thats great! or if you chose to include characters like Vanny, Vanessa, Freddy, Tony, Ellis, or the Mimic, that would be completely fine too. each prompt is pretty open, and the only must haves would be that GGY has to be included somehow.

each work would be reblogged on a special blog created for the fanweek, so each work would be in one place. the blog is not created yet.

this week is NOT confirmed yet! this post was made to recruit! i dont know how many people would be interested/participate yet and dont want to make a descision until i know. So...

I’ve had ‘sorry, we’re closed’ swimming in my head for a while now so honestly these were initially inspired by that game – at least like loosely. In any case, it was perfect timing for me to insert crk right back into everything I do!!

right SO I didn’t mean to make this a full fledged AU but they’ve been so fun to draw and that plan went immediately straight out the window. I don’t have a name for it yet but I do have a lot of disjointed ideas I’ve been throwing together 🤷 🤷

in any case I’m placing angels and demons as like a fun aesthetic foundantion for the whole AU but I don’t super want to rely or base it on too many preexisting religious contexts. feels more fun this way. I’ll come back and make a tag for this when I’ve named it

I’d imagine the beasts and ancients would still be each other’s counterparts in this but it’d be much less about the souljams and more about balancing each other out. let’s say we’re talking about shmilk and pv; they’d have a back and forth spreading deceit and truth. the closer they get to each other, the more they settle somewhere in the middle. knowledge after all is not that cut and dry. I also think they would probably be in charge of widespread knowledge as a whole. the way it’s kept, distributed or skewed. pretty big responsibility but they have their whole existence to learn to get it right

it’s a process. they’re not close immediately or even on speaking terms for a long while. I’m sure shadow milk doesn’t make it easy to be. without the souljam being a plot point, things are a lot more about resenting being replaced. being discarded and tossed aside with no second thought and then a shinier, prettier thing taking his place. they’re meant to guard each other, make sure the other doesn’t go too out of line.

shadow milk is typical shadow milk so I’d expect beast-yeast eps 7-8 would most likely still happen in some form or another. it’s only after that that they even begin to try and mend whatever grievances they have with each other. for pure vanilla it’s pretty much the motivations he has after he’s awakened in canon, for shadow milk it’s about being stuck together. hold your friends close and your enemies closer type deal. plus he’s debilitatingly lonely. I don’t think some grand romance would happen anytime soon. give these little freaks another century or so to work on it. eventually I do believe they become pretty inseparable though.

+ ALSO I still think beasts would have been made with their powers and purpose there to begin with and ancients would have to prove themselves worthy kind of closely to the way they would in crk.

plus I’d like the ancients to be a little less benevolent in this. they’re flawed people regardless but I think inherently being placed in a role that was created to hold someone else in line would do things to people. esp if said people want you super dead

that’s as far as I’ve thought up. I’d love to sit down and properly brainstorm about how the rest of the cookie world would function under the beasts and ancients

Saw a post on the cursed Ji///kook tag from a TKer about “stopping the violence” 💀 ALL hate intended, if you honest to God ship those fuckers together, you’re an idiot. I’m not saying they’re bad people, but I do think they’re dumb.

If someone is a legitimate TK shipper or believer or whatever the fuck they call themselves: I don’t want to be friends with you, I don’t want to read what you have to say, and I don’t want to come to an understanding with you. Again, not because you’re a bad person, but because you’re a dumbass.

My time is precious and I’m not going to waste it by giving someone with negative brain cells the time of day. In person or online.

I hate it when Ji///kookers are like, “I actually have friends who ship TK and we get along great irl!” Because all that says to me is that both of those people are insufferable lunatics in real life.

Girl! Empathize??? I'm even more radical than you. Not only do I think they're dumb, I do think they're bad people. Not because of the simple act of shipping two people (hell, it's a widespread phenomenon these days), but because their particular shipping is inherently tied to not only hating Jimin, but wishing for him to not exist, to be gone from JK's life and in general.

I want the worst for them. I don't think there is such a thing as them seeing the light or ever changing their mind. They are sick in the head and I no longer have compassion for any of that. They are so deep in the cult that only professional deprogramming could help them. Either way, to get that vile regularly because of a ship just shows how awful human beings they are.

And any jikooker that associates with them in any way has no spine and deserves the worst as well. They can all join together and have fun in one of the circles of hell.

Gen (non-romantic) fics recs: DC, Humour

last rec list was not exactly happy fics, so to offset it, have funny ones:

Fandom: DC, batfam. Theme: Humour (most some also tear your heart out or engage in subtle character building, but you'll laugh while you cry) Humour is very widespread in fic (…in some fandoms at least), ranging from humour woven in the writing style itself, to situational absurd (crack), to making the reader laugh about absolutely horrifying shit (while still acknowledging how awful it is; which is rarer, I think, in non-fic), to absolutely unhinged character reactions (to more I don't have in mind right now), so here, a small homage to that.

Why I love it: This is. Hilarious. The perfect mix of very competent Tim and him still very much being an 11-years-old. Himbo Bruce Wayne who just so happens to totally accidentally run into Tim several times to innocently inquire about his parents' whereabouts. The horrifying fact of what Tim is actually doing and how he thinks, in his very logical way (and the horrifying fact that his parents agree with him).

He chuckled and Tim winced. “Your nanny, then.” Tim wasn’t sure, but thought the question sounded more strained than Mr. Wayne’s usual flavor of airheadedness. “She’s sleeping.” “At eleven in the morning?” “She has a thyroid problem. I’ll let them all know you stopped by.” Tim pushed the door closed but Mr. Wayne had somehow entered his foyer while he was speaking. “I’ll write them a note. They can call me when they get back.” He inched closer towards Tim, who sidestepped him before he could ruffle his hair.

Why I love it: This is probably the first (non-crossover) DC fic I read, and to date still one of my favorites. It's. Listen. It's from the point of view of a Child Protective Services agent. Who, given his whole deal is to Protect Children, has Opinions about the Robins. And interacts - unknowingly - with them when they're grown (identity porn! Banter!). And he likes them! And they like him! But they have… differing opinions. And I absolutely love it. So. Many. Feels. And humour. It's 80% jokes and 70% feels and 50% social commentary about the canon and 20% plot and 40% fluff and 30% angst and some parts are all of that at once.

Excerpt: “Nightwing, wait, serious question,” Theo says. “About when you were baby Robin.” Max’s fingers tense up a bit on Theo’s elbow, and some of the earlier tension creeps back into Nightwing’s frame. “Yes?” “Did the Batmobile have a car seat?” “Did the what have a what ,” Nightwing says. “I’ve seen your stats from when you were just getting started,” Theo says. “You weren’t anywhere close to 4-foot-9. You would’ve needed a booster seat for at least the first two years you were Robin, so.” “So, did the Batmobile have a carseat,” Nightwing repeats faintly. Theo gets out his phone to take notes. “Yes. That is what I am asking.” “Buddy,” Hood says. “Most of the Batmobiles don’t even have seatbelts.” “How would you even know that?” Bernard asks.

Why I love it: Hmmm okay so maybe I really like a good Jason & Tim relationship. But objectively. This is great. Peak siblings relationships. The threat of Getting In Trouble forcing an emergency alliance between two mutually annoyed siblings who scramble to hide something? Peak comedy.

Excerpt: ‘Okay, sorry. I didn’t mean it like that either,’ he pinched the bridge of his nose, ‘I just mean. Don’t worry about me being in pain. I’m fine. And don’t worry about looking like an asshole. You shot me, you already look like an asshole. But that’s fine because now we’re even.’ Jason sighed at the kid’s sour expression. So his words of reassurance needed some work, sue him.

Main Characters: Tim Drake, whole batfam, Young Justice team

Official summary: When an unknown enemy threatens Robin, Gotham's vigilantes come together to keep him safe. Unfortunately, they're protecting the wrong Robin. Or: Tim Drake plans his own rescue. Things get complicated.

Why I love it: Oooooh not just batfam this time. Tim is way too competent, and the Young Justice have his back (and a lot of resentment towards the batfam). Hyperactive Young Justice energy, Very Good Characterization, miscommunication (as in Bruce -the whole batfam really- is trying but they're super bad at clearly expressing feelings). And the tone of it? The writing? Hilarious and rips your heart out. This is super interesting interconnected character dynamics (with the batfam and Tim's team that's so many more different relationships than usual) and a deep look at canon events, all of it wrapped in hilarious dialogue. One of my fave Tim-centric fics, and I've read some very good ones.

Excerpt: [Impulse on a long distance call with the batfam - minus Tim] Jay makes a disbelieving sound. “You’re telling me that Red Robin—Mr. Responsibility himself—helped you hide and maintain a secret spaceship for years? Seriously?” “Uh, yeah? Duh?” “No offense,” Duke says, “but that doesn’t really sound like the guy we know.” Bruce sighs. Stephanie huffs out a laugh. Impulse just looks unimpressed. “Are we talking about the same person? Robin numero tres, currently Red? The same guy who once hid an extra Batmobile in the batarang budget and shipped it to California in secret? The same guy who founded Young Justice, an unauthorized vigilante group of teens that started out with no adult supervision? And lied to the Justice League and the government to keep Secret safe?” “Secret?” Duke says at the same time Jay sputters out, “He stole a whole Batmobile?” “More like embezzled,” Impulse says. “But yeah, dude, it’s Rob. I know he gives off the straight-and-narrow vibe, like, 90% of the time he’s interacting with the public or authority figures, but that’s mostly because it’s way, waaaay easier to get away with stuff if you don't ‘openly project an air of defiance.’” “Oh my god,” Stephanie says. “He’s given you that speech too?” “He’s given us multiple versions of that speech,” Impulse says. Which, technically, means Wonder Girl is in charge.” Conner groans. “He’s gonna kill you.” Turning to the camera, he adds, “Look, sorry about this, I’ll go get him.” “Heynowaitaminute,” Impulse says. “Listen. Of course it does. Because he's literally the only one in his family who knows how to be responsible, and if Dick disagrees, he can suck it.

Why I love it: I have a weakness for the "Dick and Jason team up and adopt Tim" trope. Also, I love Jason's voice in it. (and this fic is very funny but I feel like I'm repeating myself)

Excerpts: “Pizza?” Tim repeats, sounding hopeful. Jason is on the verge of telling him to go screw himself, but then he starts wondering how long Tim has been in his apartment and whether he ate dinner before he came here. Probably not. Did he eat lunch? Should Jason ask? What would Dick do? “Fine,” he says eventually. “But I’m picking the toppings, and you can’t have dessert.” There’s a beat. “I didn’t want dessert,” Tim says, voice taking on a bewildered edge. “What are you talking about?” - It’s Wednesday evening and Jason is getting pizza. Dick’s waiting back in Jason’s apartment, because growing up with Bruce has him used to getting waited on hand and foot, and apparently he thinks Jason is his own personal servant or something. It’s oppression, is what it is. “It’s not oppression,” Dick yells after him just before Jason closes the door, “it’s called losing a coin toss, asshole!”

Official summary: Jason is both annoyed and weirdly flattered when the replacement turns up to ask him for help. He mentally rearranges his calendar so he can be free Wednesday evening and says, “No, fuck off, I have very important business going on.” Tim eyes his 72” TV playing Japanese wrestling more judgmentally than it really deserves. “Important crime things,” Jason emphasizes. “Make Wingdick do it.” Jason doesn't think much of it when Tim needs his help, or Damian moves in, or even when Dick turns up looking beat all to hell. But at some point he realizes that he might be the best option his brothers have to recover from the cycle of violence that Batman has set up, and all he can think is that things were much easier when he was the villain.

Why I love it: In which Dick and Jason decide to adopt Tim and Damian (Jason's kind of an asshole, but a caring one). Kind of the same reason as the previous one: love that trope, love the tone, very funny.

Excerpt: Jason lies, "Sure, I'll take it up with Bruce " "Sure you will, " Tim scoffs. Jason changes his mind, and decides he will take it up with Bruce. "I don't have the time to keep being your nanny," he announces and then says, disapprovingly, "you skateboard, why don't you have knee and elbow pads?" "I'm Robin," Tim snaps, like he didn't put pants on the costume like a little wuss.

I honestly think it's nothing personal. Someone just saw your post and felt pity because the writers often don't do this much research when it comes to the show, so OP and those reblogging the post probably thought you'd do yourself a favor if you stopped obsessing over the timeline. What they failed to notice, though, is that this is not really the focus of your analyses; you don't care about the timeline, you care about the aviation stuff. It's your passion so it's normal that you want to see it represented well or at least somewhat believable in the show. This is not a crime.

If you worry about potentially irritating people, you could always add a disclaimer on top of the post that this is just an info dump about the real world, but the show ultimately does what it wants to do so no one here should feel obligated to subscribe to your theories.

I think there are a lot of people actually appreciating your input to our fandom, but there will obviously be some who don't care and get irritated. It's normal. I get irritated all the time when I scroll on my "For you" page here on Tumblr just because people headcanon Buck and Tommy in a way that I don't. That shouldn't stop them from writing what they want, though. It just says that I'm not their target audience. I think the same's with you. If someone's really this annoyed because you write about something you're passionate about and it collides with what they believe to be true, let them. Add a tag that they could block if they don't want to see it. But don't let them dictate what you write about.

Sorry, this got really long, but I really want you to know that it's okay to be yourself here, even if some people don't appreciate it. There will always be those who don't, but there will also be those who do. I think your input is great for fanfic writing purposes at least. If you help just one person with your knowledge, I think it's enough to feel satisfied. Also, if Buck was real, I bet that your blog would be one of his favorites because he could actually learn some cool stuff about his boyfriend's profession.

Ultimately, this is your mental health and no one here can force you to do something you don't feel comfortable with. If their comments made you feel like you shouldn't impose, it's a shame but if helps your mental health it's fine. I'll miss your analyses and I'm sure plenty of people will too. But we'll have to accept it because there's a real person behind this screen and their comfort should be prioritized on this blog. But if a part of you feels like you don't want to stop, please listen to it before you make this decision and remember that it's okay to be fully and unapologetically yourself.

I think you put into words very accurately what I wasn't able to. I made my first ever post the day 7x09 aired. (It was actually my 30th birthday.) Something happened that week, a Singapore B777 encountered severe turbulence over Myanmar, injuring 104, killing 1. The media immediately pointed out the jet "plunging 6000 ft in 3 minutes" using FlightRadar24 data. I'm not talking about tabloids, I'm talking about BBC, Reuters, Al Jazeera, reputable news agencies. Aviation experts contacted the media upon reading the articles and told them a descent rate of 2000 fpm is actually standard, more so when there are injured passengers in need of urgent medical attention. Even then the media didn't walk back their sensationalized statements until a week later. That combined with the widespread attention Boeing has gotten after the MCAS scandal and the door plug blowout earlier this year, this kind of clickbait-y reporting with numerous misconceptions always gives me the ick.

Then, as you remember, the tide on BuckTommy turned drastically around that time, when a subsection of the fandom realized Tommy was staying. And that's when I started seeing takes like he only "drove the helicopter", Hen was the hero, Tommy did nothing and didn't deserve a medal. As you can see I was already in that mindset, being irritated by aviation misconceptions, I really wanted to hit back with my measly little knowledge about flying. I was already seeing people over here getting annoyed by the constant negativity and fighting, then I had an idea, why not try explaining the 5 years vs 7 years at Air Ops conundrum by bringing the intensive training for LAFD pilots into it? I mean, the introduction Tommy gave Buck during the Harbor Tour was lifted verbatim from the real LAFD website. The writers didn't even have to google the "training takes 2 years" part, it was on the same page, they just had to scroll down a little and read a few more lines.

I just thought it would be a fun little hc/potential background story for Tommy, showing how hard it is to be a firefighting pilot. On top of that, competency and dedication towards one's goal is just super hot. Even the CAL FIRE air tanker stuff I wasn't trying to persuade others that the invisible string theory is wrong. I just saw and loved the idea that Tommy always "knows a guy". We only saw one example in canon of that, him being friends with the Las Vegas fights promoter, so I was like, wait, he knew a guy with CAL FIRE too! Maybe also sneaking in some fun facts about the power and danger of water dropping in an urban environment. I never intended to nitpick, I'm just trying to bring 2 things I love together. I mean real CAL FIRE didn't even start operating C-130 until last year, and I don't give a damn about it.

I wrote about my fear of one day being mistaken as one of the Tommy bashers because my current overfixation coincides with what the haters decide to fuss about that day. I saw pushback against looking too much into the timeline first 2 times I posted about Tommy's pilot career. As I said, I planned to keep writing about things I enjoy until the day comes that I unknowingly walk into the bear trap. Honestly, I feel like this time is it.

Like many BuckTommy enjoyers, I've been a little on edge since the hiatus started. We've got attacked, harassed and bombarded daily by a thousand different reasons Tommy supposedly won't be back for S8. Then I saw those planes, I saw that hangar, and I was so excited. I had so many ideas and speculations to play with. The 8x02 title came out, I finally got a couple aviation related asks, I was so pumped. I wasn't even thinking about CAL FIRE at the time, someone asked if it was possible Tommy flew that plane realistically, so answered it. And hours later, that post popped up, explicitly mentioning my theory, with 200+ notes. It was just... a little overwhelming.

I'm not even mad at those who think I obsessed over these things too much. I just... wasn't prepared for that. I thought, comparing to the months of bad faith discourse, I was just talking planes, helicopters and clouds, that should be quite tame? I did not expect it to be actually controversial. I just don't feel the same happiness nerding out about aviation in this fandom afterwards. Maybe I just need some time to process and perhaps tone it down? I don't know. I still have many ideas in my head and those asks in my inbox.

Right so here's the thing about that. I read it over 20 years ago and I hated every moment because the English was too advanced for my skill level at the time and it made me want to kill every character involved for talking Like That.

to clarify, in my original post i said he was a bad romance option. this is because there's a decent number of approval tasks you can/need to do to secure him that are questionable morally. things such as:

the truth of this situation is that i do not care what people think of astarion, i just think he sucks (pun intended) to romance and its funny to me that when i say that i invariably have people come to tell me that my opinion is wrong.

in my multiple playthroughs, when i play the way i want to, he always rejects my tav. it is only when i lean into the discomforting and, to me, offputting actions (not my thing for games i play for fun) that i get on the right track with him. highly emphasizing here that this is My experience.

beyond Act 1, there is an entirely other conversation to be had around him as a romantic partner. he is power hungry and his relationships feature that power inbalance (i don't have time or energy to get into how i actually think that for some people this could be a positive thing because it's a safe way to explore relationships like that without consequence) and pressure around letting him feed and grow more powerful from the tadpole.

the part about astarion's whole thing to me—his character, the response he received from the fandom, his widespread popularity with women mostly—is that i have rarely seen anyone actually dissecting this aspect of forging the romance with him. they see a smooth talking, sexy vampire and that's all they need. but it seems that when you deign to look closer, at the actual steps you can take to get to a point where he approves of you are not exclusively made up of "being a goody two shoes" as someone else put it. it warrants a deeper look that i just do not see anyone who claims to like him taking the time to do

I am so profoundly sorry to the rest of the world. I'm absolutely disgusted that "my" country did this AGAIN. 

I feel like we must be in some upside-down and backwards simulation. This asshole who has deliberately insulted his own supporters to their faces on multiple occasions apparently got over half the country to vote for him. The serial philanderer who is demonstrably lewd, crass, and a-moral still got overwhelming support from pearl-clutching, devout christians. The majority of white women (and a significant portion of women from other demographics as well) voted for the misogynist who not only took away their bodily autonomy, but bragged about it. Dudebros who have been duped into thinking he's a good businessman voted for the charlatan whose reckless policies will likely tank the economy. I'm pretty sure that my aunt, who loves plants and gardening, voted for the climate change denier (I haven't talked to her in years because I'll never forgive her for doggedly trying to convert me to christianity throughout my childhood and adolescence).

I was of course nervous when I went to vote on Tuesday, but I was also filled with hope because Kamala's campaign was really impressive especially given the limited amount of time she had, and there also seemed to be such widespread enthusiasm for her. I thought she would at least win the popular vote. While there are still millions of ballots being counted, it won't change that stupid electoral college total and in the end they still might not be enough to even give her a popular vote tie. The racism, misogyny, and stupidity of this country is on display now more than ever.

My lovely little neighborhood is at least quite liberal—Harris/Walz signs absolutely everywhere—but knowing that the rest of the US is getting increasingly more bigoted and conservative makes me feel surrounded on all sides, with the walls coming in closer and closer. There's definitely such a thing as too many too hot takes and I don't want to cross over into that territory. I firmly believe you need to spend more time talking about, reblogging, writing about, drawing, WHATEVER the things you love more than the things you dislike. I really try to do that -- boost what I love, write what I love, try to put out what I want to see in the world.

HOWEVER. I think 'no complaining or negativity ever' is toxic af. First because what's complaining and negativity is kind of subjective, and I've found trying to police that actually means that the unpopular viewpoints are suppressed and the popular ones get to be whined about on main (aka people jumping all over you if you just say Maedhros was not literally the most beautiful elf to ever elf but you can make up the worst shit about Thingol and no one says anything).

Honestly I've seen people complain about 'hate in character tags' in regards to characters like Maeglin and when you look at said hate its..... a discussion of his actions in canon with no exaggeration. If you like characters who do bad things you gotta be able to handle people talking about the bad things they did. And handle people not vibing with what you like. I personally am thrilled when I see people who don't like Celebrimbor/Sauron or think Celebrimbor is overrated -- PLEASE some backlash is good and necessary for fandom balance!

Though I get it, I really do, because frequently these conversations go too far into vilifying the fans of the characters. For instance, there's a ton of takes out there that I find deeply misogynistic. It's really truly amazing how people are able to take a canon that has hardly any female characters at all and somehow manage to sideline them even further, make every single action about a man, or just straight up erase them. But. I actually don't think most of the people who do this are actually misogynists. They might be doing more for women in the real world than I ever will. They just have bad opinions about the Silmarillion. That's it. The widespread nature of these bad takes is indicative of society's values at large but doesn't say much about individuals. If you can truly establish a trend I think it's fair to write about it generally or to respond (with minimum vitriol) to specific posts, but I think it's easy to get into a trap of talking about 'THOSE misogynistic fans' when what you really mean is 'fans with takes I find annoying'. But you can feel superior if you bucket everyone who has a take you disagree with as some sort of moral inferior.

And yeah, I'm comfortable saying this happens with conversations about race and colonialism and other thornier topics too, though I have a different bar for what I consider discourse-y considering the large contingent of white nationalists who revere Tolkien's works as their ideal fantasy and the absolute ostrich behavior of many 'liberal' fans on spaces like tumblr towards racist elements in Tolkien's work.

But but but there's a long and storied history of people in these tumblr adjacent spaces of going on and on about 'Arafinwean colonialism' and 'Sindar colonialism' when what they're really doing is engaging in character smears and lashing out because other people were being annoying about how their favorites are murderers. Their clever comeback is 'well YOU like a colonizer.' This discourse is the absolute pits and hence why I try to avoid too much of 'THEY'RE BAD PEOPLE DON'T YOU GET IT' about particular characters unless strongly provoked.

I understand why people find a lot of different takes compelling. There's this potent mix of elements from the text like christian theology, pre-christian mythology, and humanism that conservative fans, liberal fans, Tolkien scholars, Tolkien 'scholars', canon purists, movie fans, movie fans who would rather die than admit that all of their inspiration for elves is directly PJ inspired, shippers, non-shippers, etc etc etc that has been shaping all these disparate threads of fandom. Fans encounter any or all of these wildly conflicting and deeply entrenched factions and form opinions based off it. One person's universally hated character is another's universal fave depending on the ecosystem.

Anyway. tl;dr yes, there's a lot I find annoying, yes, I have reasons for why I don't like the things I don't like, no, I won't stop sometimes mentioning the things I don't like but also I'll try not to be too obnoxious about it.

TL:DR: I'm taking a sorta hiatus from writeblr. Basically a hiatus except for a couple of events at the end of November/beginning of December, and FebruarOC. No clue when I'll be back.

Longer version:

If you've been around here for any NaNo season since 2020, you may have noticed something weird happening, aka I stopped posting daily snips, and stopped giving excuses for it after the first two times. It was just a lotta hitting roadblocks with Knighttime Dreams and not wanting to push myself into writing something I'd be okay with sharing, and then falling out of the habit by the time I was writing stuff I'd be okay with sharing.

Which is probably because of the mild/major problem I've been having for at least the last year where me and actually writing down the shit I've plotted in my head have not been getting along. At All. And it really fuckin sucks! I took a break after last year's NaNo and after FebruarOC, and that didn't seem to do shit, and I tried writing every day and that still didn't do much (tho the fact I stopped when I went on vacation probably didn't help, but also. they were contextless snips. I like writing those, but there's a difference between that and Actually Plotted Shit), so. yeah. I dunno.

So yeah. Gonna step back from writeblr and make it official this time rather than just vanishing. I'll still be lurking as usual, I might try and fill some of the Find the Word tags and other assorted not-last-line tags I have sitting around, but I'm gonna be pretty quiet in terms of my own stuff. I'll do my usual NaNo roundup at the end of the month, I wanna do some Spotify Wrapped drabbles again, I have a thing planned for Dec 1 that I've been looking forward to since like... July, and I'm gonna come back for FebruarOC bc if I want it to become a widespread writeblr thing then goddammit I gotta do it myself (also it's fun. I watched this a few months ago (back in september!) but never got around to posting my notes.

I think there's a few different versions of the helmets, that or the helmets are modular, because there are a lot of shots of the actors in and out of the helmets, in various stages of disassembly.

Was glad to see and hear Bokeem, he's a great perspective because he's not really aligned with the 'main' storyline beyond this episode, and he's got a great outside perspective.

Thank you for making the post about people misusing and abusing the x reader tags in the ACOTAR fandom.

I’ve quietly messaged people about this, and while some have been gracious, others have been incredibly immature and rude in their responses.

I feel like a lot of it intentional and coming from the desire to drive engagement with their posts (some have unapologetically said as much).

In these instances, it really highlights that person’s immaturity, narcissism and lack of desire to meaningfully contribute to the fandom (other than to gain more followers etc.).

I absolutely think the rise of social media influencers, booktok, etc. in general have contributed to this mindset.

I get what you said about deleting your post because you don’t want to clog the tags yourself, but I hope you leave it up in the hopes it might educate or convince some people to rethink how they use the tags.

I’m so fed up with this selfish nonsense and just about ready to start naming and shaming.

More of us need to call out the accounts who are abusing the tags. That kind of behaviour is not in the spirit of fandom and we shouldn’t just accept it.

I’ve been involved in various fandoms for a long, long time (I’m probably at least twice the age of most people here), but I’ve never come across such selfishness and lack of regard for the experience of others as I have in the tumblr ACOTAR fandom.

First of all, thank you so much for sending this ask. I can’t tell you how many times over the last couple of years I’ve written and rewritten and then decided not to make that post, because I was a little worried about pissing everyone off, so it’s nice to know that I’m not alone.

Fandom has become such a weird space to navigate. I’ve been on Tumblr since 2012 and I’ve also spent time in a million different fandoms on other platforms over the years, but the mess the space in general has turned into recently seems to be a cross platform issue—and from what I hear, a cross fandom issue.

I totally agree that social media has fucked up how we interact with other humans, and it’s also sort of created this widespread “pandemic”, if you will, of people in constant need of attention and validation.

I’ve been lucky enough—in this fandom, at least—to have not yet had a bad interaction personally with a writer on the x reader side of things, but I 100% believe that there are a few who have absolutely no problem putting themselves over common courtesy.

On the flip side of that, I’ve also had some people respond super well and tell me that the idea that non-fic posts might be clogging up the tags just genuinely didn’t even cross their mind, and they were super sweet about the whole thing.

But I totally agree that there’s a lot of, as you put it, “selfish nonsense” going around—by both writers and readers. Some readers are very demanding and get upset when a writer doesn’t do what they want them to or post on a regular basis, and some writers are very demanding that they get the kind of or the amount of interaction they deem acceptable.

This is my side blog, because I don’t like posting a bunch of stuff on my writing blog that isn’t specifically fics I’ve written, so as someone who sits on both sides of the reader/writer dynamic, this behavior confuses the hell out of me.

In fandom, we’re all here for the same reason—to enjoy this piece of media we really like and want more of. So, why can’t we just do that? Why can’t we just be chill and be kind and have a good time?

Fandom isn’t the fun little escape it’s meant to be if we can’t even be kind and courteous to one another.

Anyway, I’m so sorry for the novel-length response—lmao, I’m a wordy bitch with raging ADHD and a lot of shit to say 😂—but in regards to my original post, I think I will leave it up. With you and a couple other people expressing similar sentiments, I feel better knowing that I’m not the only one frustrated by the misuse of the x reader tags.

P.S. If you’d like to name and shame writers in this fandom who’ve been mean to you in my inbox, feel free so that I can block them. I’d prefer not to continue to give my support to people who are out here being assholes for literally no reason.
