the nominations for the big drag awards night in my state are coming up soon and nothing is going to stop me from turning the whole thing into an elaborate conclave larp in my head

this is stupid and i feel like i’m losing brain cells. totally a joke and an attack most of us have anticipated. it’s the same song & dance. just as he dominated PFW — the yibo vs jennie HS pops up & now awards season is upon us, some people are getting so anxious once more cause wyb is gonna trample everyone else.

i really didn’t want to make a post about it cause of how absurd. the hs in the morning did not have his name on it, it just said #wigconcert and the comments were clarifications. but as of writing, the hs already has his name and on #1 in entertainment. It’s not WYB himself who refuted, it’s the fan club.

i’ve read a good comment that said these “rumors” spread about wyb always have no hard evidence, but catchy enough for people to click. for passerby to second guess and have doubts on his credibility. remember he also did that break dance promo for hangzhou asian games so positive talk about him was on the up & up. another thing that is being implied here is he did it so he can be with his previous female co star.

the fact that yxh are acting like the concert was something very recent when it was actually last 8/25/2023. Last night, the video was cut and purposely made out to be this rumor that is now being passed around.

I feel sorry for the girl caught in this, who looks like a staff member of the artist.

the height too. the venue has this moshpit kind of thing and they are supposed to be standing. Follow up to other anon, what if a specific iteration of a franchise is significantly different? For example, Rise of the tmnt has a very different universe to other iterations with lots of new characters (especially the rogues gallery), different takes on returning ones, different backstory for the main characters, very different characterisation jn some cases, while 2012, 2003, 1987, etc TMNT follow a very similar structure and characters

Honestly, that probably still wouldn't fly with me. To use Deltarune and Undertale as examples again, to me at least it'd feel like an "And now for our next round, Sans from Deltarune v.s Papyrus from Undertale" situation if you were to submit 2 different turtles under different series iterations. Though, I'm not 100% familiar with the source as is, so forgive me if this is some sort of universal bad take in TMNT circles lol.

one of my favorite activities is consuming genuinely awful, poor quality, media- and while i have undoubtedly consumed worse, the one that sticks out most perfectly in my mind as the quintessential "god this sucks" is probably 1999's children's animated cartoon Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century which is just absolutely unbelievably bad. for children's 90s media even. uniquely horrible

i honestly honestly believe that if elfangor hadnt died in book 1 and had gone on to become the kids' mentors, marco would simply not be an animorph

and this isnt a knock against him or anything, but he was already the most reluctant to take on the mantle. having an competent, experienced, adult alien around just highlights how young they all are and how ill-suited they really are. like, he literally is just a kid. why should he have to risk his life for an impossible war effort?

Ok. So I'm going to rant a little about the nominations.

I love that Past Lives and Anatomy of a Fall got nominated for best picture. If Past Lives wins I'm going to be so happy, apart from Godzilla it's my favorite movie of the year.

Margot Robbie got snubbed, which is such a shame because her performance in Barbie was phenomenal. Especially since both Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera got the nominations (my theory is that it's because of how viral Ferrera's monologue went and how popular everything about Gosling is). Keoghan also didn't get the nomination when he acted his ass off so much. Gladstone got the nomination thankfully, hope she gets an Oscar, that scream she lets out when she finds out about her sister's death was genuinely bone chilling, the rest of her performance was stunning too. I'd like to see Natalie Portman nominated too, she was great in May December.

When it comes to animation, at this point I'm wondering what does Pixar have to do to not get nominated??? Elemental is aesthetically the most boring movie ever, can't say what the plot is like since I couldn't be bothered to watch it but it's probably really bland in story aspects as well. I haven't heard of Robot Dreams before but probably everything on the list is infinitely better than fucking Elemental. I hope Nimona wins, both because of how great it was both as a movie and in its message, and partially because I want to see Disney humbled after they cancelled it for being too queer. But both Across the Spiderverse and The Boy and the Heron are great too, so they could win as well.

Nothing You Can Take From Me from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is not on the list for the best og song which is sad, such a bop.

For some fucking reason Indiana Jones got nominated for the score, probably because it reminded the people voting for the nominations what the Indiana Jones theme sounds like. It just reuses the motifs from the previous scores without doing anything interesting. They don't have the guts to nominate Godzilla, which actually did phenomenal things with classic sound themes and complimented them with new ones.

Godzilla got a nomination for the best effects but with that competition I don't think it'll go to them. If someone gave me the means to pick nominations they'd get a few but well, I don't have that power. Rye Lane also didn't get anything. It was really visually interesting so I hoped they'd get at least one nomination somewhere, but no.

My most out of pocket picks, if someone would hand me the power to nominate shit would be John Wick 4 for best cinematography and Full River Red for best og score and best og screenplay, but since that's a Chinese production that was never going to happen.

So yeah, as per usual, a pretty disappointing year, will probably get worse when they actually announce the winners. Fuck you Academy Awards, see you in March.

There still are! We've been really busy irl and haven't had as much time as we were hoping to to get things together, but we've been slowly getting the stuff to at least start Round 2's nomination period! I was hoping to get that together sometime this weekend, no promises, but I'm hoping to try!

Just because a movie isn't dark and serious doesn't mean it isn't good representation. The queer community deserves a happy rom com for the same reasons the Black community deserves movies that aren't about slavery or civil rights. Cishet white people aren't the only ones that deserve lighthearted happy stories.
