Start Somewhere

To be perfectly honest I'm not quite sure what I'm doing Besides going back to basics Even though, I've never really been But there is just something About trying something new When the old tricks up your sleeve Don't work, when it's just you

So you Inktober and NaNoWriMo but ate you aware of Jamuary? All sorts of musicians flood youtube with daily jams.

I tried it this year and got to day 19 before giving up cause I was out of ideas and drive.

And then in june I bought a Microcosm.

So I took the six best jams and cut away the bad bits and ran it all through this new pedal for some spice and well... Here we are.

Today's portfolio write-up: 'Recycle'

So I started my youtube channel by checking out some old free plugins. We love free. After preset surfing this I also tried to make small jams. Some ended up better than others.

Fast forward to me acquiring my sampler (SP404 mk2) which has many fx and lofi sims I wanted to test.

So I ran my 4 best old vst jams through it and submerged it in tape sim for that wonky vibe.

Toxic Kiss

So for this portfolio write-up thing I'm not actually looking at my "proper songs" however those 'Backing Tracks' still count

Start Somewhere, Toxic Kiss, Foolin and Sunshine were done using free VST's like SQ8L, Synth1 and PG8X. I wanted to see if I could write something poppy and I think I got there.

The second half (Crush onwards) was recorded with hardware instruments. Korg SV-1, Moog Subsequent 37 and an Arturia Drumbrute Impact. Et voila: a second half foing from party time to sad and moody.

So Reaper is my DAW of choice and in 2022 they finally put out their own PaulStretch-esque timestretch algorithm.

Ofcourse I had to test it, so I went through old jams I did on stream, cut out a really nice bit and went to town.

Before stretching I did use xcomp to render 4 frequency bands which I then volume faded here and there. The result? "Drift".

Write up number two!

Sketch was an exploratuon if Output's Arcade back in the day. Wanted to see if their performance control on samples was any good. It wasn't, but the library was nice.

Ended up with mostly darker atmospheric stuff but theres some nice ones in there.

Ultimately "Sketch" is the reason I ended up buying a hardware sampler, which has been very fun.

I have once again been told to share my stuff more, so I figured I could do a little write up on my ep's?

First up would be "Broke" which has 4 tracks I made using the freebie sample packs from Cymatics, Black Octopus, Sampleradar, Samplephonics and 99Sounds. On account or being Broke at the time you see.

Not a lot of sample manipulation other than slapping it in Reapers sampler, playing it with midi and some more pitch correction after.
