In the era of time travel, people like to believe that every problem in their lives can be fixed by time travelling. You work as an agent dispatched to fix the problems that these time travellers cause… by any means necessary.

Day 31 - Mask
The thing about Sans is you never really know what he's thinking behind that smile.
#inktober#undertale#sans#and that's inktober!#only finished...#checks watch#2.5 months late!#But yeah this was another favorite prompt#because this is one of the things I find fun about Sans as a character#he smiles and laughs and jokes#but we don't really know how much of that is genuine and how much is an act#masking for depression or distrust or anything else that might be going on inside that skull#he plays his cards close to his chest#and keeps people at a distance#and that sure leaves a lot of room for speculation and fanfics :)

Funniest thing GRRM could do w the Vale plot in TWOW is have someone organize a nice, relaxing, attendance mandatory, good old-fashioned snowball fight to ease tensions and then have Alayne Stone hitting Littlefinger in the gourd w that Patented Starkling 500mph Fastball TM and killing that man stone dead.

Writing Notes: Speculative Fiction
Speculative fiction - a literary “super genre,” which encompasses a number of different genres of fiction, each with speculative elements that are based on conjecture and do not exist in the real world.
Sometimes called “what-if” books, speculative literature changes the laws of what’s real or possible as we know them in our current society, and then speculates on the outcome.
Subgenres of Speculative Fiction
Most speculative fiction novels fall under at least one of the following genres. Some may fall into multiple genres depending on the story structure:
Science fiction: stories with imagined technologies that don’t exist in the real world, like time travel, aliens, and robots.
Sci-fi fantasy fiction: sci-fi stories inspired by mythology, folklore, and fairy tales that combine imagined technologies with elements of magical realism.
Supernatural fiction: sci-fi stories about secret knowledge or hidden abilities including witchcraft, spiritualism, and psychic abilities.
Space opera fiction: a play on the term “soap opera,” sci-fi stories that take place in outer space and center around conflict, romance, and adventure.
Urban fantasy fiction: fantasy stories that take place in an urban setting in the real world but operate under magical rules.
Utopian fiction: stories about civilizations the authors deem to be perfect, ideal societies.
Dystopian fiction: stories about societies deemed problematic within the world of the novel, often satirizing government rules, poverty, and oppression.
Apocalyptic fiction: stories that take place before and during a huge disaster that wipes out a significant portion of the world’s population. The stories center around characters doing everything they can to stay alive—for example, running from zombies or trying to avoid a deadly plague.
Post-apocalyptic fiction: stories that take place after an apocalyptic event and focus on the survivors figuring out how to navigate their new circumstances—for example, emerging after a global nuclear holocaust or surviving a total breakdown of society.
Alternate history fiction: stories that focus on true historical events but are written as if they unfolded with different outcomes.
Superhero fiction: stories about superheroes and how they use their abilities to fight supervillains.
History of Speculative Fiction
Writers have written about hypothetical events for centuries.
Speculative fiction dates back to ancient Greece when playwrights like Euripides explored alternate versions of the truth.
For example, in Medea, Euripides speculated a world in which a shamaness killed her own children, rather than them being killed by the Corinthians.
Stories like William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings are also considered speculative fiction, even though the term did not exist at the time.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream conjures a world in which characters move seamlessly through time and space in the woodland and the Fairyland;
The Lord of the Rings speculates mythical creatures that do not exist in our world.
The term “speculative fiction” was used for the first time by Robert Heinlein in 1947.
The terms was largely associated with only the science fiction genre in the late 20th century, as science fiction is a widely-read genre that contains speculative elements.
The term expanded in the 21st century to encompass more subgenres beyond just science fiction, like fantasy and dystopian literature.
Today, speculative fiction is a blanket term for the stories that take place beyond our known world.
Margaret Atwood defines speculative fiction as literature that deals with possibilities in a society which have not yet been enacted but are latent.
Margaret got the idea for The Handmaid’s Tale from a conversation she had with a friend in the early 1980s when, in reaction to the advances of feminism during the previous two decades, a strain of cultural conversation worried over how to get women “back into the home.”
Margaret wondered what it would take to do that; what kind of regime might enact such a reversion.
In Gilead, the world of The Handmaid’s Tale, certain women who have the now-rare ability to have children are deemed “handmaids,” and are allocated to an upper class families as reproductive slaves.

Could you do a prompt of how we all want Aaron to react to Roberts date? Not the non chalonce Emmerdale are going to give us 😂
I'm not convinced it WILL be all "yeah whatever" from Aaron tbh. He might front it out in front of John, or the village at large, but (also, if Aaron genuinely doesn't care why tf would John kidnap Robert? Mind you, he rarely makes sense...) Anyway. ____
Aaron wasn't supposed to see it. That was the thing that made the jealousy raise Aaron's hackles. He knew Robert had been flaunting his dates, trying to get a reaction from him, but Aaron had been stubborn, teeth digging into his bottom lip and refusing to give Robert the satisfaction of rising to it. But this time? It wasn't done for Aaron's benefit, and that made all the difference to the potent jealousy Aaron felt instantly.
The bloke was leaving Robert's (or Vics) early in the morning. Aaron had gone for a walk, as John hadn't come home. Again. He needed the fresh air, and that was when he saw the guy, slipping his jacket on. Maybe Vic got lucky? No. Robert's blond head appeared over the guys shoulder, smiling at him. It didn't quite reach his eyes but it was there.
Aaron felt like he'd been sucker punched. The air had just disappeared from his chest, mouth hanging open. He wasn't doing it to make Aaron jealous, he was doing it because he was single, and he could. Oh God. What if he actually met someone? Someone serious? Robert had always been this glorious, terrible option for him. Even in prison, he was always there in Aaron's mind, hovering in the background. But this? It could really happen. He could lose the possibility of ever having more.
The bloke left, but the door didn't close. Robert had seen him. The smile faded a little, but there was something in his eyes that Aaron couldn't read. He thought he had all of Robert's expressions down, but this? Robert gave almost a half shrug, then closed the door and Aaron sighed. Someone was touching him, kissing him, sleeping with him. It just felt so bitterly unfair. Aaron hated every second of this, and what made it worse is Robert had offered him everything on a plate. And Aaron had said no.

its like a Utopia (Thomas More, 1516) in here
#metaphor refantazio#metaphor re:fantazio#shadowbringers#ff14#ffxiv#literally cheered out loud when Metaphor confirmed the references to the book#i remember learning a bit about it in college so seeing it referenced in very modern games is wild in a good way#fifteen hundreds brit lit in twenty first century japanese games#not that it's that much of a surprise because the concept of utopia is as universal as it gets across cultures and times#we most owe More credit for giving the name and prompting an entire genre of speculative fiction#and that's exactly the sort of thing I talked about in class

Historical note: The first ever GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) was founded at a private highschool in 1988. It's absolutely plausible Robin would find one where she goes to college. Or rather Steve would find one and drag Robin to events to meet girls.
--------------------------
"Steven Elisabeth Harrington, you give me my shirt back this instant!”
Aaron glanced over at Steve, who was grinning. He had wondered about the shirt when Steve had arrived to help set up for the GSA’s first hopefully annual “Dirty (Queers) Disco,” but had quickly been distracted by all the work they needed to do.
It did make more sense that the shirt was Robin’s. The sleeves were very tight around Steve’s biceps, and the hem kept riding up to expose slivers of his torso. Aaron had not been the only guy to get distracted from his job every time Steve needed to lift something. Or didn’t need to lift something but had been asked to anyway.
“Why? You wear my shirts all the time. You’re wearing one right now,” Steve pointed out. Sure enough, Robin was wearing an oversized polo shirt that probably would only be a little snug on Steve. “And you said you weren’t going to wear it. It’s the gayest shirt we own. One of us had to wear it.”
Aaron could almost see Steve’s point. It was definitely not the kind of shirt straight people wore. On Steve it would have been perfect, except that it had “I eat pussy for my pleasure” printed across it three times.
“On me the shirt is gay. On you, it’s straight,” Robin griped. “Clothing is not intrinsically gay.”
“I don’t know what that word means.”
“It means give me back my shirt, Dingus.” Robin made a grab for its hem. Steve held her off with an extended arm.
“I will give you the shirt-” Robin interrupted Steve with a crow of triumph. Steve repeated himself, “I will give you the shirt if you wear it to the disco. All night. No accidentally spilling a drink on it five minutes in and changing into something else.”
“What if?” Robin began. Steve rolled his eyes and answered before she could finish asking the question.
“Of course you can take it off if a girl wants to see your boobies. I’m not a monster.”
“Your repeated use of boobies says otherwise.” Robin nodded. “Deal. Gimmie.”
Steve took off the tee shirt. Robin snatched it from his hand and took off towards the bathroom to change.
“Hey, don’t I get my shirt back?” Steve called after her.
“Should have made that part of the deal,” she shot back.
Steve sighed. He stood, hands on his hips and shook his head with an air of amusement.
“Does anybody have a spare shirt?”
#platonic stobin#short ficlet#my fic#stranger things#steve harrington#robin buckley#steve and robin's gsa adventures#i personally think steve gets really excited when he finds out the club is gay-straight alliance and not gay student association#and crows that he's welcome too#prompting every other club member to speculate on if he means because he's straight or because he's not a student#(no i don't have another story in this universe but yes i have sketched out a universe)

I’ve been thinking about cutie marks recently and I think it’s really weird how ponies view them when things like bad luck are an option for someone’s destiny. Couldn’t a destiny like that be considered a disability? Couldn’t Starlight Glimmers spell be altered to have positive medical effects in cases like Trouble Shoes? I just think Trouble Shoes shouldn’t have to live with bad luck for the rest of his life because destiny/fate dictate it and a mark on his butt say so. A pony with a cutie mark and destiny that might as well be a curse to them shouldn’t have to live with that.
There’s a cutie mark disease for crying out loud. Cutie pox is getting too many cutie marks. I think cutie marks are an important magical phenomenon that happens to ponies and it can have good or bad effects. And has magical illnesses and mutations surrounding it. Sometimes a pony can get something like bad luck as a “destiny” or get to many cutie marks, and maybe not get any at all.
Ponies view cutie marks as such an important part of being a pony that not having might as well be not being a pony. Don’t worry you’ll get one eventually! Or suck it up, it is your destiny chosen for you! I think Starlight Glimmer discovering the ability to remove cutie marks, and thus the magical powers it gives, probably changes many ponies views a lot. “I don’t have to live like this? There’s an experimental treatment?” And many probably look down on this. It causes magical fatigue. Your magic skills lower. Your ability to do anything in that field basically becomes nullified.
But if you had bad luck as a “destiny” or had multiple cutie marks where the only known cure for that was extremely rare and hard to get, wouldn’t Starlights spell be promising? Magical fatigue and some skills lost seems preferable.
And my biggest thing with this, is that Trouble Shoes got arrested for having bad luck if I’m remembering correctly. His destiny got him put in jail. And the solution is for him to become a rodeo clown? I just think it’s insulting to him. You’ve been getting arrested for property destruction and vandalism because of your destiny? Go to the circus! Become a clown! Trouble shoes deserves better
