The fact that Percy Jackson (aka nico) got me into both musicals (through a nico tiktok) and batman (through a nico fic) which consequently got me into so many other fandoms (such as white collar through batman) is honestly impressive

Aa newly RWBY fan who started watching the show because I saw the bmbly confession of Vol 9 last year, and while I just started Vol 5, I think i cracked the who fell first vs who fell hard dilema. Blake was steadily descending a flight of stairs up until some point on Vol 2 in which she jumped with a perfect landing strategy. Meanwhile it would appear that Yang was on free fall since Vol 1 but in fact she spent all this time half an inch away from the ground, like that scene on Mission Impossible movie , refusing to let go while Blake was seated beside her waiting for her to take her time.

This is a very controversial topic, my friend, but I do love the simile you've come up with!

It's not that obvious from V1 + first half of V2 that Blake and Yang are really close. Sure, it's no secret that Blake has the best relationship with Yang, but we're not aware how deep that goes just by watching those first 3 volumes. I think if you really want to know the depth of their relationship from the Beacon days, you gotta read the mangas + DC comics as those fill in the missing pieces so well to understand why they were pining after each other in later volumes so freaking much.

Blake's manga anthology basically revolves around Yang, she's a central character in almost every little story there. Yang has always been supportive and patient with Blake, slowly easing her out of her shell. She constantly tries to cheer her up when she is down, make her forget her problems, takes her to places, has her arm around Blake a lot, validates her feelings, etc. There's even a line from Blake "She makes me feel at ease" in reference to Yang. I mean, what else could you look for in a romantic partner if not these qualities?

Also, there is a lot of flirting and blushing going on there too!

We know Burning The Candle is like the episode where things got a little more concrete with Yang's determination to get Blake to attend the ball, the hug, Blake's expressions, the wink (I mean, helloo??).

Personally, I am more inclined to think that Yang was the one who fell first, but she didn't acknowledge it for a long time. Or even if she did, it was probably put into the "I have a silly crush on my partner" pocket of her shorts. We know people are prone to fall for Blake like instantly (understandable tho), and I think Yang was no exception in this matter.

Blake definitely fell harder, the pining is strong with that one after Beacon fell.

She was drawn to Yang and specifically picked her as a partner in the forest. Yeah, we know there are certain similarities between her and Adam, but at the end of the day they couldn't be further apart from a personality aspect. Blake definitely realizes that early on, she just has tiny sway of trust during the Vytal festival fiasco.

I think Burning The Candle was a definitive turning point in regards to her developing feelings and they were in full swing during V3. She seems rather carefree during that volume, she even cheers for Yang on more occasions.

Yang is constantly on her mind during V4-5, but I don't want to spoil the rest for you so my analysis stops here. The more heavy evidence comes from later volumes, so keep watching!

the funny thing about the conflicting narratives that kon, jon, and chris/lor zod have in modern day dc comic writing is like. the top of the house (editors, senior and executive leadership, IP brand managers) don’t WANT to publish anything with depth bc then that would mean admitting that kon was a child sex abuse victim during superboy 1994, that chris was a victim of different kinds of abuse pre-flashpoint, and that jon COULD have been a victim of child sex abuse in the volcano bc of the implications by bendis and taylor.

but like, that’s only if you dig even an INCH deeper, but they won’t, so then you get: kon flip-flopping in characterization even though jeff lemire spent a year trying to fix geoff’s sins and then bendis carried OVER that character development into yj2019, only for fitzmartin and stmot to completely retcon all of that.

then you have jon who gets panel time on different teams and angles, but all of it is superficial to the point where not a single person since 2019 has been able to really opine on The Volcano without it getting awkward bc no one actually wants to commit to the bit and write “a child called it” for dc comics.

then you have chris who is technically dead bc of the reboot, but they abused his ass so bad they had to remake him for rebirth and then abused lor so damn bad, he apparently sold his pregnant mother and father out to the galactic version of genghis khan’s army.

like, not all dc comics are bad rn, i agree, but the superstories are ESPECIALLY in the trenches bc no one’s willing to commit to the bit. they’re so unwilling to commit to the bit that lois is doing literally everything but raising her kids, even tho rebirth’s mission was to mommyfy her in the worst way possible. like, ALL of superfam writing is currently at an impasse cuz WHERE are we gonna go if we don’t get these stories back in order again? karawriting apparently cant exist without power girl. the twins get to show up, but ONLY if kennedy johnson’s around to write his OCs. lois had a whole run after jon got aged up, and her interactions with jon were some of the weirdest shit i ever did read bc it’s like they absolutely cannot have their main supercouple admit that their kid was abused bc of them.

honest to allah, i feel like lana and john henry are the ONLY ones who got to miss the bullshit this era of dc comics. they’re getting married! lana’s not in a shit marriage anymore! john henry finally accepts he’s a super and not just some poser wearing the shield of a dead man! they’re running steelworks! they’re happy!

meanwhile clark and lois are fucking around with doomsday while magically!deaged!jon kent is telling billy batson that the only thing making this life worth it after losing his childhood getting starved in a volcano is his boyfriend. like my boy is on suicide watch. he’s killing himself the second jay leaves him, and his mom never kisses him on the forehead anymore. kon can’t even admit he was in love with his abuser bc of bad writing. chris is DEAD and lor got his unborn sibling KILLED. im sick 😭

Let's take the butter board trend that literally broke the internet (if you somehow missed it, it was this whole aesthetic thing where people were spreading butter artistically on boards and it was lowkey gorgeous ngl). This trend is literally giving us ALL the social theories in one aesthetic package!!

First up: Bandura's Social Learning Theory 📚

The way it spread? That's literally what Bandura was talking about when he did that famous doll experiment! Like, those kids copied adults hitting dolls just like we're out here copying tiktoks when we see others getting tons of likes and comments Carbonell (2007). it's giving ✨psychology✨ but make it social media

The Multi-step Flow Theory entered the chat: 

ok so the tea is ☕️: it wasn't just random people making these butter boards. It started with those food influencers we all follow (aka the opinion leaders in fancy academic speak). then their followers were like "omg need to try this" and BOOM 💥 suddenly everyone's feed was just,,,butter?? I have a collection of Little Women books( it’s not even my favourite book😭😭😭) I started collecting it when I was 8 years old and since then I just buy every copy of Little Women I can find, I also collect Daredevil, Hellblazer and Major Grom comics, Monster High dolls as well as Ever After High and Bratz. I have a collection of jjk and dc figures, and I also spent a bunch of money on kpop albums back in 2018(this one is genuinely embarrassing😬😭)

no need to be embarrassed over the kpop collection, i literally have 500+ albums so i could never judge you for that. i don’t think i’ve read the little women books but i think it’s so cute that you have a collection of them. i had a collection of judy moody and dear dumb diaries books before i gave them aware a few years back, i kinda miss them.

one of my friends is OBSESSED with daredevil but i don’t know much about him, and i think i’ve heard of hellblazer too but not major grom. i have a collection of x-men comics, and i also collected young justice comics for a while bc i love them so much.

literally need to know which monster high, bratz, and ever after high dolls you have. it’s IMPERATIVE i know this information. i only ever had like one or two every after high dolls, not sure why i didn’t get more bc i was obsessed with the show. have always always always been a monster high fan, still have all of my dolls from when i was younger and a bunch of newer ones since i started collecting. i remember deciding to collect back in 2020 and buying a bunch of dolls for really good prices, and then suddenly there was a resurgence in people being into them so the prices went up like crazy. which pissed me off bc i never stopped liking them but whatever 🙄🙄🙄. i didn’t like bratz dolls growing up because they didn’t have real shoes and that pissed me off so. much. but also i was born at their peak and by the time i was old enough to start playing with dolls their downfall had already begun. always loved the movies growing up tho. all time faves are rock angelz (duh) and bratz girlz really rock

finally thought it was time that i posted a fully updated intro for sizhui now that he’s aware and that he remembers everything about his past. 

this is my son, the light of my life, a whole baby aka lan sizhui! 

he’s been living in washington dc for two years and the first year he basically spent being unaware of his life and has only just remembered at the beginning of this year and only remembered his past just recently. 

he is a junior disciple of the lan clan and one of the most level headed of his friends, who were all pretty much prone to anger and making quick decisions without thinking them through. 

he’s a lan by name, but he is a member of the wen clan by birth, his cousins are wen qing and wen ning. 

he was born wen yuan. 

he was a small child during everything that happened with the wen clan and all of the other clans and was one of the many of his clan who went to the burial mounds. 

after everything happened and the dust settled, he was left behind in the burial mounds, hoping it would keep him safe but he just grew sick, and that was where lan wangji found him and took him to cloud recesses. 

the illness caused him to forget most of his past and he lost his memories of his family, which didn’t return until years later. 

he currently remembers everything, so basically everything from the burial mounds and everything from his life after that.

he grew up looking up to wangji as a father figure and often calls him dad when they’re in private and would prob call him that around people he trusts, like the other juniors, xichen, wei wuxian, wen ning and wen qing, but to other’s he just calls him huangang jun for formalities. 

 he’s a very chill person and will help out anyone that he can, but will also call u out on ur bullshit lmao. but basically he’s a baby and i love him

here in dc

while unaware, he believed that he was from new york and that his parents had paid for his university and his housing so he could study politics. 

he’s now aware & remembers everything about his life back home, compared to when he first remembered everything and he didn’t remember anything about his past.

I am not a religious person, but I am somewhat superstitious. I spent many years doing Shakespeare and theater, so I don’t say the Scottish play’s name. Ever. Not if I can help it. I have bad luck and that curse often backfires on me, even when other people say it. Last time one of my stage crew team said it, a wall fell on me. That combined with several other injuries to my neck and shoulders, I still have trouble turning my head suddenly.

The rabbi at Chabad keeps trying to convince me to put a mezuzah up, either in my front doorway or in my room’s doorway. But I have a nazar 🧿 on the front door and a Chinese good luck fish on my door. Plus a lucky cat next to the doorframe. I don’t tend to symbols. The only two I keep together are the hamsa 🪬 and nazar 🧿 on my AirPod case.

I have a different hamsa on my key ring that I bought while visiting the Holocaust Memorial in Washington DC and I rarely ever go anywhere without it. I lost it briefly last November and got hit by an SUV the following week. I now don’t go anywhere without it. I also have a nazar necklace I made using a charm my parents bought when they adopted me from Kazakhstan. It reminds me of my roots. I also wear a rune necklace my mom gave me (it is the rune for a warrior, Tyr or Tiwaz).

I definitely think part of this fixation around superstition rests in my ocd. But on the other hand, my roommate (who was born on the same day as me) has equally bad luck. We say that we have enough bad luck for shitty things to happen but just enough good luck that we don’t die. Like the SUV. Getting hit sucked but I was able to walk away from the accident without any breaks, bruises or scrapes. Doesn’t stop it from hurting tho

thinking abt the journey and a half my DC hyperfixation has been.

I was a DCAU only girlie for so long. (BTAS, Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, YJtv, GLtv). I enjoyed the DCEU too, but i was WAY too wrapped up in MCU brain-rot to dive too deeply into those. But that was it. Zero interest in comics themselves as a lil squirt.

Eventually I stopped caring abt the DCEU entirely. (around WW’84, tho it had nothing to do with that movie, i just never saw it — and didnt see any of the movies that came after). And got WAY into Marvel™. And i kinda just rode that wave.

When Marvel started branching out into shows i was HYPED — esp since they started that shit off with WandVision. I’d always loved Wanda, and the fact that they brought Billy and Tommy in was all i needed to push me into reading comics

i tore through the young avengers (UGH i miss them <;/3), and other titles associated with them, and was having a blast. At some point around the season finale of Loki (good show, this was just also how the cookie crumbled) I just fell off Marvel in general. A lot of this probably had to do with school ramping up around this time — but i stopped reading comics & watching their shows and movies almost entirely.

Around this time tho, bc i Missed reading comics — i started reading webcomics. And as much as i enjoyed reading Marvel comics for that short period of time, webcomics were what made me fall in love with Comics™ as a medium.

6th semester ended, i was elbows deep in world building for my own webcomic project, and started watching anime while working on it. Again, anime was always one of those things i enjoyed (Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Pokémon were some of the most influential pieces of media in my entire childhood), but my love for it as an art form was really solidified during this time

[side note: can you Tell i was dealing with art school shit during all of this? couldn’t turn the critique brain off literally Ever, so anything i enjoyed got put under the art student lens]

But my interest in anime stayed entirely on the animated side of things for a Long Ass Time. It wasn’t until Jujutsu Kaisen that i got shoved headlong into manga. God that stupid fucking anime changed my life, ANYWAY.

I finished the anime (umm maybe like. 5 times), and then HAD to know what happened next. So i devoured the manga. Every spare moment i had was spent reading it, until i was Done. then i was like orz. what do u do now ??

The answer was do the exact same thing with Demon Slayer. which was ALSO a life changing experience. read 鬼滅の刃 pls pls pls

Now. When i finished KNY, i was also like *head in hands* how do i even keep on living?? But this was also while working on my thesis project, and still doing a lot of work on the side as far as my own comic was concerned. (like… 60k words worth of world building & drafting scripts + designing characters), so its not like i had all that much free time.

anyway — i finished up my 8th semester, and barely gave myself a chance to breathe before i threw myself into working on my comic practically full time.

I was working on a one shot to submit to a contest for Webtoon, and they were asking for a pretty substantial amount of content (60+ panel Action comic one shot. and I, as always, love to make things harder on myself, so i think in one of the later drafts it ended up having over 100 panels).

needless to say, i Did Not finish the oneshot in time (its still not done to this day T~T i’ll come back for you forge, dont worry). But, toward the end of that… 3 month span of feverishly working on this project, i found myself falling in love with DC all over again.

I mentioned YJtv before, but that show was Also something that changed my life as a 10 year old.

(its really funny to think about that show now & how it’s release date lines up with the beginning of the N52 continuity, and how both the show & that particular reboot are so strongly disliked by a vast majority of DC’s fanbase — but thats a post for another day)

I’ve rewatched the show at least once a year since my roommate let me start using their HBOMax login. I know seasons 1 and 2 like the back of my hand bc of how much i watched them growing up, and i like season three well enough. But the thing was that on this unsuspecting summer night, i was about to discover that there were New Episodes.

Dude i was hyped, i was losing my shit. I had resigned myself to the knowledge that this show was never coming back. I was okay with it too. But here it was, alive and kicking after what felt like forever.

Heres the thing tho. They killed off Kon.

okay not really, but at the Time boy boy was Dead, and i was devastated. Thats My Boy. He had been my favorite character from the jump, and i did not know how to process him being gone. So i took a break from the show, and turned to ao3 instead.

At this point i was Not an avid fic reader. I wasn’t an avid reader period – outside of manga – but i had read a few really good fics recommended to my by some of my JJK pals. So i looked at the Kon-El | Conner Kent character tag on ao3 and just scrolled until i found something interesting.

In this case: a Timkon fic (this one in particular).

I knew who Tim was before this (He shows up in YJtv. He's there in BTAS), but I had never thought about him and Kon as... anything really. In the versions of them i was familiar with, they don't interact all that much. They're from different generations of heroes, but i was like, hey, what the hell this sounds cute. And man oh man, it was all down hill from there.

I read more TimKon fic, and just fell in love with them. But i was also... confused. Like... why do these two guys have such a robust fanbase... wheres the link.

THAT is what pushed me to start reading Detective Comics Comics for the first time. I wanted to get to know these guys For Real, and the only way to do that was by digging into the source material.

This post is So long oh shit. I have thoughts about How I got to know the kiddos & how the comics i read (as well as the order i read them in) have influenced my understandings of these little guys. But i think thats a post for another day. I have other things to do than write out a post about my media consumption habits

one thing that’s always facinated me about geoff’s hatred for keselian kon is how easy it woulda been for him to just create the OC he desperately wanted and make that OC a true clex lovechild instead of ruining an opportunity for someone to help kon heal from his keselian trauma. cuz not only did kon never heal from the shit that haunted him during superboy 1994 through graduation day, but he spent all of post-graduation day angsting and dying and angsting some more before flashpoint killed us all. he didn’t do anything but become a part of the corporate marketing ploy obsessed with promoting the superbat dynamic across various generations of dc. one could argue tim got more development post-graduation than kon did. and then kon and cassie didn’t work out even tho we KNEW they wouldn’t work out and saw WHY they wouldn’t work out. he died to fuel other people’s toxic codependencies. he came back and then just existed even tho he probably was better off dead ted.

he got to be everyone else’s bitch but his own bc no one wants to admit he was a creep and weirdo and a victim of sexual abuse and grooming and someone who didn’t understand consent and someone whose promotional pitch as superboy was a meditation on child exploitation in the entertainment industry and that he loved partying and that was angry at humanity bc of his existence and that he’s a clone and that his father figure is dubbilex and not clark or lex and that overall he’s a character ripe for meditation on what happens to kids who were thought to be “fast” in their childhood but now have to reckon with the fact that their friends and family failed them SPECTACULARLY.

and that at the end of the day, kon’s not a human being, but a clone. and despite how unjustly they murdered dubbilex while tryna imply his humanity during new krypton, kon and dubby at the end of day are NOT people. clone rights are human rights but they are clone rights still. jack kirby, i am so sorry that self-proclaimed nerd hijacked the son that kesel wrote for your DNAlien, dubbilex. inshallah, we’re slowly but surely healing the planet from the geoffian muck. bendis was phase 1, kenny porter phase 2. phase 3 will have orion joining the picture at kon’s third dna donor.

Writing unhealthy characters can sometimes be extremely unfun. Not because I dislike writing them or because what constitutes the core in said characters; quite the opposite: There's always something I find deeply fascinating in watching a fictitious individual who's not necessarily well put-together try to fight back against the well-worn asphalt they have dug their heels in, that I can seldom get captivated like that anywhere else on any sort of entertainment. ---- No, writing unhealthy characters is not fun sometimes because I have to write them. You know how screwed up it is to craft, spell-check, proofread and edit a voice that, more often than not, goes places that you've learned to regularly avoid in your everyday life? Someone who reminds you of instances that you've come to regret? Of your past vices? And sometimes, it starts getting way uglier. ---- Thanks to my psychiatrist, I've learned to let go of a lot of unhealthy things and habits one by one, but sometimes, mining the "places" you've previously been to for creative endeavors can be weird. Like, you're not that person anymore, but whenever you look back, you think "fuck, this is hard!". ---- Does this make sense? Sorta? Heck, I've been rambling a bit too much, haven't I? Mechanics I've come up with for my totally not LU DND campaign with me as the DM and 100+ people playing Nine PCs:

Risk: choices are not split between all possibilities, but what is safe/slow and what is risky/fast

Stress: you have a chance to accumulate Stress when you choose riskier options. 3 Stress will cause something bad, chosen narratively to effect that character. Stress can be purposely spent to make "push yourself" options succeed.

Difficulty Class: Difficulty Class is what determines how successful any majority voted option (besides Push Yourself) is. The DC is determined by how Risky an option is. For example:

On a Safe option out of 4 choices: DC for succes would be 26% majority vote.

On a Risky option out of 4 choices: DC for a success would be 70% on a majority vote.

These are just examples, there will be DCs for partial successes, successes but a Stress, fails but no Stress, etc. I'm hoping this will encourage people to look in notes and see what others are voting, making risky options sometimes something a bit more planned by you guys, and giving you guys more control over the story.

NOTE: this DOES NOT MEAN a 100% vote on a fast/risky option will be successful all the time. Sometimes a fast/risky will be set as a failure, but with no stress at it's highest percentile. DCs are set by me before posting the poll, and they will be kept secret until after the poll is done, I will post them after if y'all are curious.

Random Encounters: while traveling or having characters spend a night on watch, there will be a random encounter based on the percentile of a winning poll option. Random encounters will vary from a freaking lynal to a keese to a storm to a uneventful night.

HP and Health Potions: these will be tracked and updated on a separate post, health potions are not revivals, health potions can be used at any time in combat, but will cost time. Health Potions can be found, traded, and bought. Money is not tracked. HP will passively increase to full during parts that have no combat.

Revivals: if your character dies and you choose to do a revival, it will reset the story to the previous poll that initially lead to the death of your character.

NOTE: Fairies can be found, and they can be used to heal AND revive your character without using a collected health potion or a revival. Be sure to use them wisely!

Maps: maps will be provided as your characters find them. Do not expect them to be any good quality wise tho, I'm no artist.

All of this is subject to change, before and during this adventure, but these are the ideas I've come up with so far, and I'm really excited for them :D

finally thought it was time that i posted a fully updated intro for sizhui now that he’s aware and that he remembers everything about his past. 

this is my son, the light of my life, a whole baby aka lan sizhui! 

he’s been living in washington dc for two years and the first year he basically spent being unaware of his life and has only just remembered at the beginning of this year and only remembered his past just recently. 

he is a junior disciple of the lan clan and one of the most level headed of his friends, who were all pretty much prone to anger and making quick decisions without thinking them through. 

he’s a lan by name, but he is a member of the wen clan by birth, his cousins are wen qing and wen ning. 

he was born wen yuan. 

he was a small child during everything that happened with the wen clan and all of the other clans and was one of the many of his clan who went to the burial mounds. 

after everything happened and the dust settled, he was left behind in the burial mounds, hoping it would keep him safe but he just grew sick, and that was where lan wangji found him and took him to cloud recesses. 

the illness caused him to forget most of his past and he lost his memories of his family, which didn’t return until years later. 

he currently remembers everything, so basically everything from the burial mounds and everything from his life after that.

Because, from my understanding of the comics (which admittedly is minimal), jason died before tim officially was introduced to the family. So tim spent more time thinking of jason as “robin” or bruce wayne’s son and not much if any thinking of jason as his brother, which is where i could maybe see the ship? i honestly don’t have any feelings about it that are very strong, tho i do prefer not to read it.

anyway, ig what i’m trying to say is that the reasoning of “well they’re not blood related” is shitty beyond belief, but if they are a) not blood related and b) don’t necessarily see each other as brothers, would it still count as incest? (this is genuine btw bc i’ve seen mixed thoughts about it)

i know that for a lot of the fandom it seems like legitimate incest bc the fandom likes to portray them all as buddy-buddy family (or as hating-their-guts but still family) and jason and tim are written to still think of each other like brothers, which is why it’s questionable, so ig i’m just curious about your take on things (especially bc i don’t know that much about comics to make an argument either way)

It’s canon that they think of each other as brothers. Whether it’s DC trying to push them as besties or not, it’s canon. It wouldn’t matter anyways because if your parents have a kid while you’ve moved out and you’ve never spoken to them, are they or are they not still your sibling? If you share a parent, you’re siblings. The debate happens because people are willing to not give the same undeniable weight. Legally, they’re brothers. It’s not just questionable when characters are acknowledged as siblings not only by each other, other characters, the writers and the law; it’s irrefutable. There’s no room for debate whatsoever, and everything you’ve heard arguing otherwise is people twisting things to justify incest.

I hope I didn’t come off as rude, because I know people love to write think pieces that seem reasonable to people who haven’t read enough comics to know otherwise.
