Note: I am a HUGE fan of this AU, it is one of my favorite rise x 2012 crossovers. It is amazing, please check it out! While reading through the asks/blog posts, I kept seeing a few of these... little comments...

Same Siblings Different Family

SSDF Mutant Apocalypse Au

Loosely based on the tmnt 2012 mutant apocalypse arc (Or at least its Wiki. I have watched the series, but I haven't seen season 5 nor plan to).

🔹--- Bad Things Happen to Leo ---🔹

SSDF Leo gets portaled to Mutant Apocalypse.

Maybe he successfully built a portal device to go home or random, mysterious shenanigans (coughitwasprobablyLEONcough). Either way, it does not matter... Leo is once again trapped in another dimension, alone.

However, this time is different as he finds familiarity wandering through the wastes. To his mounting horror, Leo knows this decimated world...

New York is long gone. Everyone he knew and loved almost certainly went with it.

Despite this indescribable, soul shattering realization, Leo does what he always does. Forcing himself to keep going, he must get back to his sons. He CANNOT lose his family again.

🔹--- Just a Little More Angst (bare with me) ---🔹

Immediately Leo sets to work on a new portal, gathering parts and just surviving.

Compared to his past experience, he now has a far better understanding of machines and dimensional travel (after many, many years of study). Unfortunately, he is still no Donnie or Dani, especially with such limited and poor quality resources.

Initially, Leo's paranoia leaves him to avoid other mutants at all cost, sticking to shadows. Old traumas have left their mark but, after everything, desperation quickly takes hold.

Armored vehicles can be found throughout the wastelands. Uncommon and irreplaceable, their mechanical parts maintained religiously.

Within a week, Leo has gained a new profession... carjacking*.

The waste-ravaged, mutant survivors are hardly a challenge compared to the Yokai of his sons' dimension. Defeating them easily, Leo tries to only target the raiders and Ravagers that terrorize the lands, but it can be hard to differentiate and harder to care.

The ninja gains a small reputation as a silent thief, unseen by those who live to tell the tale. A ghost story.

Until one day...

🔹--- Bad Things Happen to Leo, but GOOD !!! ---🔹

Raph and Donbot (a robot with the mind and consciousness of Donnie) unknowingly pass through Leo's territory in the Shellraiser.

When they stop for the night, Leo jumps Raph.

The two fight.**

Raph soon recognizes Leo before getting pinned to the ground. Upon calling out his brother's name, Leo freezes.

Before either can act, Don–who had snuck up behind them–electrocutes Leo, knocking him out.

While Leo is unconscious, Don is caught up and they drag him back to camp.

Turtles are examined for injuries, cuts/bruises are patched, and electrical burns are treated. In addition, Don also runs some checks to properly confirm that Leo is really Leo (the scans are positive).

They have their big brother back!

🔹--- Bonding !!! ---🔹

Leo wakes up the next morning and there was much rejoicing, at least after some cautious skepticism, interrogations on both sides and a blood demonstration from Raph (changelings stuck).

There is much hugging, explanations are given, and a few tears may or may not be shed (no one will ever admit it).

The Turtles find that there are a few gaps in Leo's memory as he does not remember the bombing, but Don and Raph have similar memory problems so it doesn't really concern them too much.***

Leo is way too excited, finally able to tell his brothers about their nephews!

As he leads the two back to his base, Leo talks about his new home. He asks if they would be willing to come with him to the new dimension. At this point, Raph and Don have nothing left in this world and happily agree.

Plans decided, the brothers get to work on the portal. Leo does his best to explain everything he knows about dimensional travel to Don who picks it up quickly (because of course he does).

Soon the device is almost complete. All they need are a few pieces and Don knows exactly where to find them. The three pack everything into the Shellraiser, ready to go home.

🔹--- TV Show Events Happen ---🔹

(From here on out, the AU roughly follows the show but with the addition of Leo. See Fandom Wiki for more detail. Spoilers Ahead for the end of season 5.)

Along the way, the turtles meet a young meerkat mutant named Mira who tags along with them.

“Her goal, as she explained to them, is the oasis, a piece of grassland, of which only myths and legends have mentioned… Mira tells them that the Turtle in The Impossible Desert is a hermit who knows the way to the Oasis and is known as the ‘Holy Chalupa’. When this name is mentioned, Raphael and Donatello [and in this AU, Leonardo] are surprised, for among the Turtles only one has ever made use of these words: their youngest brother, Michelangelo!” - Wiki

Learning this, they pause their mission to find out if it really is Mikey. It is!

Mikey still has Ice Cream Kitty and Raph’s Giant-Fire-Breathing-Space-Turtle son, Chompy!

And there was much rejoicing! However, as the reunion is celebrated, explanations given and plans shared… things get complicated…

Specifically with Leo’s shocking discovery of Raph’s Giant-Fire-Breathing-Space-Turtle son, Chompy.

Raph can’t leave his son behind, not after they’ve just found him again (Chompy is way too big to bring back) and the others are, obviously, not going to leave Raph behind.

Suddenly, Leo’s brothers can’t come with him, and Leo can’t stay. They still wish to meet their newfound family members and promise to at least visit. As a father himself, Leo understands but, having finally gotten his old family back, Leo’s eventual return home becomes bitter-sweet.

In addition, Leo does not recognize Chompy.

Mikey’s memory is a lot better than his siblings’. Reminiscing, Mikey tries to jog the others’ memories. It helps Raph and Don, but not Leo. Everything just becomes more confusing as doubt and paranoia begins to creep in. But, no time to process this as soon they are attacked by ravagers who were following Mira.

Several action scenes, expositions and maybe some light arson later, the turtles find… apocalypse!Leonardo (will be referred to as Leonardo)…

……

This was never our Leo’s dimension. These were never his brothers. He’s still. Not. Home.

🔹--- Resolution ---🔹

Soon the day is saved, the final parts for the portal have been obtained, and the apocalypse turtles have been reunited with their… actual… big brother.

Maybe Leo would have been accepted regardless. Maybe they would have still come to visit his kids. Maybe they would have adored each other. Maybe they could have been a family.

But it doesn’t matter… There are no goodbyes for as soon as the dust settles, Leo slips away. Through the portal, leaving no way back. To a world that still isn’t his, having lost his family… again.

I meant to reblog this before it finished; I thought I had some more time.

Oh well. What can you do.

Voted for "Fractured (Lost) Hamato Clan btw! Because yessss, evil, mindcontrolled Turtles that still basically act like themselves, but are now loyal to The Bad Guys. Also, Caseynardo stuff; yessss. And Casey, April, and Splinter ( think) having to run to save themselves, and then working with the Rise crew to save the 2012 turtles. Alright!

Saying that, while I voted for that, and wanted it to win (it got 2nd place though, so that is something), I am also excited for SSDF too, because displaced from his brothers, single teen father 2012 Leo of the Rise Bros has me in the heart too. Also, cool and nice and interesting Leo and Hueso stuff, as well as Leo and Usagi stuff. And interesting Splinter stuff. As well as Venus and Jennika stuff!

So basically, while FLHC was my first choice, I am excited for SSDF too (would have been excited for the other 2 as well too).

Until I figure out how to write Kraang Speech for chapter 20...

Oh I wonder how Ghost would react to the highly paranoid,stressed and exhausted, SSDF Leo if they both existed in the same universe. (Like SSDF but with the addition of Ghost)

Oof the angst and hurt comfort (and Ghost absolutely dying on the inside knowing that Leo is basically going through the exact same thing he went through only worse because he's raising for turtle tots. And he's only 17!!!!)

Ghost would probably approach slowly seeing how paranoid Leo is. He gets it. I don't know if Leo would stick around or not, I don't know much about SSDF, but Ghost would try to help. Plus he too fell through a portal at 16 years old and was also incredibly stressed and confused and has terrible paranoia! (Not quite as bad as SSDF Leo's, though arguable that he's only not as bad because he has cameras everywhere.)

At the end of the day, if Ghost can help ease his burden even a little bit, help him breathe and feel safe for even a moment, he'll do just about anything.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 10

It's a shitty episode, that's what this is.

Why does this episode suck? Well, we start off with Kaji taking Asuka shopping for bathing suits. She's going on a school trip to Okinawa, you see. She asks him if he went on any school trips when he was her age, and he says he couldn't because Second Impact was happening back then. Anyway, Kaji sucks and I hate him.

As it turns out, she can't even go on the stupid trip, because NERV wants the Eva pilots on standby in case of an Angel attack. You'd think this would be a standing order year-round, but Asuka is gobsmacked to find out she's not allowed to just do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. You're in the army now, kid.

Here's the thing about Asuka. I was kind of looking forward to her introduction into the story, because Rei and Shinji were practically comatose throughout the early episodes of this show. At least she would bring some energy to this thing, I thought. And she does, but mostly it's a whiny, bratty, irrational energy that gets old pretty quickly. When Misato tells Asuka she can't go on the trip, Asuka demands to know who gave the order. Well, Misato did, dummy. She's your commanding officer. When she can't argue with that, she argues with Shinji, expecting him to say something to resolve this, like he has any control over the situation. But Shinji kind of expected this to happen, so he never got excited about the trip in the first place.

This is the origin of that "so you've given up?" meme. I always took it at face value. That is, I assumed the scene was Asuka asking Shinji if he was quitting something hard, and he just casually admits that he's collapsing in the face of adversity. But the actual context is that Asuka is trying to cajole Shinji into the impossible task of getting them a furlough from their indispensable child soldier jobs. When that doesn't work, he insults his manhood, then asks Misato why they don't just find the Angels and destroy them first, so they're not always on stand-by to defend against an attack. Misato's like, kid, if we knew how to do that, don't you think we'd have already done it?

Misato points out that both Shinji and Asuka can use the downtime to catch up on their studies, seeing as their grades haven't been very good. At this, Asuka tries to claim that the school's grading system is irrelevant. Kid, just shut up. You're not gonna win this one.

Anyway, Big Rigg Mahoney sends his regards from Okinawa.

So at the base, Shinji studies, and Asuka tries to do scuba diving in the pool, since she can't do it at Okinawa. Turns out Asuka's already graduated college? She claims the physics problem Shinji is working on is easy, but her grades were poor because she hasn't learned enough Kanji to read the questions. Also Asuka wonders aloud if thermal expansion would make her bust bigger. I wasn't going to say anything, but I think the animators on this episode already made her bust bigger, because Asuka looks like Boa Hancock in this turkey.

Meanwhile, a joint NERV-SSDF mission discovers a juvenile Angel inside a volcano. This is a huge opportunity to study the things and learn more about them, so the Eva pilots are mobilized to go in and retrieve it.

Asuka insists on being the one to actually made the dive, because I guess she drank like fifteen cups of coffee before this episode started. Settle down, dammit.

Asuka is chosen to make the dive, but her Eva will have to wear this dorky looking exosuit to withstand the temperature and pressure.

Also, Asuka herself has to wear a modified plugsuit that looks like this for... some reason? It's supposed to protect her from the heat, but she's going to be surrounded by the Eva, which will also be surrounded by an exosuit. How much more protection does she need? And why does inflating the plugsuit make it safer?

Asuka whines about these intolerable conditions, until Rei offers to pilot Unit 02 in her place. Asuka quickly changes her mind, since she can't bear the thought of getting left out of the mission. Geez, she's like a toddler!

So we go on the mission, and Asuka asks if Kaji will be here to see her in action, and Misato informs her that this is none of his damn business. It's called "professionalism", Asuka, look into it.

As they prepare, Misato explains that if the Angel can't be captured, or if it matures into adult form, then they'll have to destroy it. And if they fail, the UN will blow up the whole volcano, and all of them along with it. Shinji asks who would order such extreme measures, and duh, it's his dad, the guy in charge of the whole organization.

From here, most of the episode looks like it was filmed inside a Nintendo Virtual Boy. This probably was considered pretty badass in the late 90s, but no, it looks like crap. They just keep lowering Asuka further and further down in search of this thing, and then she finds it and puts it in some kind of rectangle.

Rectangle secured, mission accomplished, OR IS IT?

Turns out the Angel hatches just as Asuka starts heading back for the surface, and the device she used to contain the Angel can't handle its adult form. Misato orders her to release it and head back to the surface as quickly as she can.

The fight sucks because you can't see anything. Asuka had a "progressive knife" when she went down, but she dropped it during the descent. So Shinji tosses down his own and she catches it and fights back, but the thing is still incredibly strong and durable, becuase it lives inside a volcano for crying out loud.

At last, Asuka remembers that conversation about thermal expansion and uses that to win. Something about diverting the coolant in her Eva while she attacks with the progressive knife, but I can't see what she's doing and I probably wouldn't understand it anyway. The Angel disintegrates... I guess? And she returns to the surface.

So Misato takes them to a hot spring near the volcano to celebrate a job well done. The girls ask Shinji to toss them a bottle of shampoo over the retaining wall, and then he hears them... tickling each other? And he gets a boner? I guess that's a joke? A plot point? Why the fuck is this in the show?

There's also a cryptic exchange between Misato and Asuka. Misato has a scar on her abdomen which she says she got during Second Impact. Asuka asks Misato if she knows about her past, and Misato does but assures Asuka that they need to put it behind them. So I guess we'll find out what that means one of these days.

And there we are. This was dumb. Most of the show was Asuka babbling like an idiot, or people watching machines lower other machines into lava. The show continues to drop all these hints and clues about the characters' backstories, but it never puts any of the pieces together. It just gets really formulaic, and I think the best evidence of this is the fact that I got mixed up while playing this DVD, and I accidentally watched Episode 11 first, thinking it was 10. So I had to go back and watch this one, but I could have just as easily skipped it, because nothing happened that had any long-term consequences.

Mini AU: Universe 6 Spiderverse AU

((To celebrate Across the Spiderverse releasing on Blu-Ray- and me patiently awaiting my copy in the mail- I've decided to finally pop out the notes for a mini Dragon Ball/Spiderverse cross AU that I've been jotting down over time between projects since I saw it in the theater!))

SETTING/WORLD-BUILDING

Also known as Dimension DBU6 in multiverse codes. The AU is set in a more New York-esque, in true Spiderverse fashion, Planet Sadala in an equivalent Manhattan, "Sadalhattan" if you will. While the planet's population is not 100% Saiyan, a few species immigrating there, the Saiyans are still the original inhabitants and dominant demographic. Numbers wise, the population comes closer to a highly populous state versus a full-scale Earth's worth.

Ki is either non-existent or a rare and discreet skill, so there's less focus on it. The Sadalan Defense Force becomes more traditional soldier combat focused similarly to the real world rather than a pure ki-CQC combination. They recruit similarly to the army/marines at about 18.

Bonus note: Dimension DBU6 has an equivalent Dimension DBU7 in which Goku receives the radioactive spider bite, taking on the Spider-Man name due to not yet knowing his heritage.

CHARACTERS:

THE HERO Cabba aka Spider-Saiyan

"My name is Cabba. I was bitten by a radioactive spider and for the past (x amount of time), I've been Planet Sadala's one and only Spider-Saiyan."

Rather than being the Sadalan Defense Force's prodigy fighter, Cabba lives a more domestic lifestyle as a high school student, planning to enlist in the SSDF post-graduation or at least pursue criminal justice- at least until the spider event occurs. Cabba is the type to go into hyper-anxiety, so he's desperately trying to disinfect and treat the spider bite, all while Googling his symptoms and being none the wiser on the "radioactive" part.

He's trained in jiujitsu and is very limber and agility-focused. He also has an interest in tactile and textile skills, so his Spidey-Suit is handmade.

Design: Similarly to AtSV's Pavitr Prabhakar, his iconic Saiyan spikes stick out of the top of the spider cowl. While the peaks end up slicked down into a waved side part, his front bang remains distinctive. In terms of the coloration, the suit's color scheme reverses the color distributions in the palette, prioritizing shades of blue over reds, and adds some gold accents, particularly on the spider symbol. There is a red headband pattern along the brow resembling Bardock's bandanna. Additions to the design incorporate elements from the main canon's SSDF uniform, including a reddish x-crossed double belt, the four lavender skirt tails (unintentionally completing the "eight legs" spider theme), and ankle boots in black rather than purple.

THE GAL PALS Caulifla and Kale

Caulifla and Kale serves as this AU's equivalents to Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson respectively. Close to Cabba's age and grade in high school if not in the same year. Since Cauli is the Gwen Stacy equivalent, there is an alternate DBU6B where she receives the spider bite instead of Cabba.

Having this pair in play explores the fun what-if of Gwen and MJ getting together in the end. As a result, this means that Cabba doesn't get either end-game gal and he doesn't have a problem with that- love is love.

It's debatable whether Cauli will suffer the same fate as your average Gwen Stacy- she seems the type to be able to take care of herself.

THE POLICE CAPTAIN Captain Renso

"Sadalhattan"'s resident police chief and Caulifla's older brother and caretaker due to their absentee parents. Unfortunately, if you've been picking up on the Spiderverse patterns, he ends up being Spider-Saiyan's canon event and loses his life.

Caulifla, who is normally apathetic about her brother, starts to become even more hostile and spiteful against the world. She acts particularly distrusting and vengeful towards Spider-Saiyan, putting him to blame and believing it was negligence on his part that got her brother killed.

If she's not gone completely moodily silent, Cauli will rant on and on to Cabba and Kale about her plans to bring Spider-Saiyan to justice- and Cabba just has to nod along.

Spider-Saiyan is bound to encounter typical street thugs, generic evildoers, villains of the week but...

THIS ONE The Lizard

Villains of the week and your standard commonplace criminals come to pass but Cabba's recurring villain by moonlight manifests in the form of a scaly creature known simply as The Lizard. It only appears at night and resembles a draconic reptilian with sharp horns yet is oddly humanoid in build. It's colored in shades of blue, dons a mask over its mouth, and has piercing red eyes that glow in the dark. It communicates in mainly hisses and grumbles and is rarely verbal.

The Lizard always manages to elude capture and vanishes into the night.

Who knows where this creature disappears to once morning breaks? Perhaps there is another side to the beast.

THE CLOSEST COMPANION Frost

In this AU, Frost has a more humanoid appearance, practically a human AU design. He has blue hair and pronouns tied up in a messy bun and green and hazel heterochromatic eyes, though there's reason to suspect they're contacts.

He's not a Saiyan, obviously, but he's from an immigrant species family, somewhat of an Ellis Island type situation, about second or third generation. His family lives in an area of the city similar to Chinatown.

Frost has been described as "cool as cucumbers and gay as sunshine". He's one of Cabba's closest friends and they share a high level of trust. They occasionally have talks after school, usually while Frost is working part time in his family's small-business cafe.

"Do you think if you ever had to keep a secret... about who you are... you'd ever just want to tell someone just to ease a bit of weight from your shoulder?" Cabba's hand tenses on the strap of his bag, lightweight and flowy yet heavy with problems, fingers self conscious about whether the zipper is shut to hide the Spider-Suit he quickly stashed inside.

"An oddly specific hypothetical, my dear Cabba," Frost simply chuckles a bit, yet there's an odd twinge in his throat. "Even so, there is quite the risk in doing so... could you even do it without causing yourself more stress? Putting yourself in more danger?" There's a beat of silence, Frost still smirking but the corner of his lip still twitching. "But I digress, drink that tea you ordered before it gets cold~"

However...

Due to a mysterious experimental contamination, Frost experiences almost werewolf-like transformations into The Lizard by night- though these occurrences seem to worsen as of late, triggering more frequently and at less convenient times, making it harder to track the timing. It's a wonder it hasn't happened earlier in the day- or worst of all, in public or at school. His memory of what he does as The Lizard has grown less and less hazy of late.

Frost hasn't been up for sleepovers in ages, and adverse after effects lead people to believe this kid needs serious amounts of lotion on his hands.

Further down the road, these two discover each other's identities in the least pleasant of circumstances- with events leading to Cabba catching his friend with his face half-shapeshifted...

Character Spotlight: Kizamu Mitasa

It’s the cartomancer of love and dreams, Kizamu Mitasa!

She's part of a “friend web” of magical humans and respected youkai in Izotakara. Her father, an entrepreneur, left for his homeland for a business opportunity when she was two years old. This, combined with her issues with authority, has led Kizamu to build up an aloof and unfriendly front, and she never had many friends in school. She always thought her peers were boring and slow, so she was never too bothered by this. It wasn’t until she entered junior high that she decided to change things and open herself up to those her age.

Personality

Kizamu is outwardly reserved and unfriendly, but around her friends she’s a sweet, dreamy, trusting individual. Among her friends, she is known to “fall in love” easily, usually with girls over boys because “boys are mean and girls are a lot cuter”. She gets along better with youkai than she does with humans, which has led her to question whether or not she’s on the way to becoming one herself. Kizamu can be somewhat loud and rough with her friends, but she cares deeply for them, and will relax when she thinks she’s really hurting someone’s feelings. She is easily bored by small and unnecessary details, and spends much of the school day staring out the window and daydreaming. Kizamu has a boisterous streak, claiming she’s “the greatest cartomancer Izotakara has ever seen”. She likes racing games, food, and has some interest in metaphysics, since she’s one of the only people her age to know of the Multiple Realms Theory.

Abilities

Her main ability is cartomancy, which she taught herself. Kizamu’s accuracy is incredible, to where she can throw a card and hit an apple head-on from up to 800 feet (244 meters) away. Magic in this world is best channeled through inanimate objects, and particularly skilled magicians can channel it through their skin or even through the atmosphere. Kizamu uses her playing cards as conductors of her magic, as well as normal projectiles in fights.

Those native to Izotakara are more sensitive to light and magic. People who live in the city their entire life are somewhat photosensitive, but can see very well in complete darkness. Some naturally gain the ability to use magic, and can utilize the city’s strange energies to fly through the air with ease. Kizamu is capable of all of this, but she likes flying with a cape purely for the fun of it.

Family

After her fiance left, her mother cherished Kizamu even more, since she’s a part of him. Her mother is very lenient when it comes to parenting, as Kizamu is quite trustworthy on her own, and values her daughter’s happiness and health over anything else.

Before and even after her father left for the United States, Kizamu and his fiance were two of the most important people in his life. Because of the circumstances, they rarely speak and haven't seen each other in 12 years. Kizamu doesn't resent him, though, since her mother always spoke so highly of him. Kizamu wears a vest because of her father– that’s part of his style, and she wears one so as to not forget that about him.

Friends

Her best friend is Monica Sweeney. When Monica first moved to Izotakara and started attending junior high with Kizamu, she offered to show her around, and the two hit it off immediately. If they're not completely alone, they're usually hanging out together. Kizamu in particular has a little crush on her, calling her “Mona” for short. Since Kizamu was Monica’s first friend in Japan, Monica likes her a lot and puts a lot of trust in her.

A secondary parental figure to her is the nekomata Nyani Koun'na. Nyani and Kizamu’s mother are friends, so Nyani would know her daughter. Kizamu thinks Nyani is really cool, and that her stories about working in the SSDF (Solar System Defense Force) are fascinating. Nyani sees Kizamu as a spiritual daughter, and believes in her potential as a magician. Kizamu also knows of some of Nyani’s friends, including the komainu Aya Komaru and the immortal Fujiwara no Nagako.

Another of Kizamu’s youkai friends is the tiger Natsuki Toratoki. During an incident where an alien visited Izotakara and caused trouble, Natsuki was drawn up to the surface, and met Kizamu. Kizamu instantly was fond of her, and was saddened by Natsuki returning to her home in Muenzuka. Natsuki, wanting to see what the big city life was all about anyways, later returned to the surface in disguise as one of Kizamu’s classmates. Kizamu also has a crush on Natsuki, in a cool-and-untouchable way.

Kat and Ana Igakawa are two of her human friends. Kizamu met Kat at a Christmas party of Monica’s once, then met Ana at school. She initially thought the two of them were overly-disciplined and hard to talk to, but soon warmed up to the both of them. Kizamu and Ana have friendly sparring matches from time to time, and occasionally hang out outside of school and fights. Kizamu got introduced to the human witch Ashley Lucardia through her.

Enemy

Like Niitsu, Kizamu doesn't have many enemies, but the closest thing she has to one is the guardian spirit The Witch of Midnight. Once, Kizamu tried contacting a spirit out of boredom, and The Witch answered her call also out of boredom. Since then, she's started visiting Earth more, but the moral disconnect between her and the humans and youkai of Earth make her more of an adversary than an ally. Still, she likes toying with Kizamu quite a bit, and envies her ability to make friends so easily.

Trying to think of a response but like now a sentiment i am seeing is that people (probably hating being told about xina and thats getting in the way of shipping miguel with peter lol) are just saying how they dont care to engage with spider-man 2099 comics because 'actually atsv is someone else' and they did bring up points about peter david but. Idk theres so much that is endlessly compelling and adds to miguel as a character but again guess that gets in the way of fetishizing him and shipping him with self inserts

movie recap: i watched the end of evangelion today and oh my gosh it was so good. i mean, the shinji masturbating to comatose asuka's breasts in the very first scene made me super uncomfortable, but it made him uncomfortable too so i guess that's okay. the movie is divided into two parts, to represent replacements for the last two episodes of the series. in the first, seele discovers that gendo is intending to create his own version of the third impact to reunite with his late wife yui, whose soul is in eva unit 01. in response, seele attacks nerv with the ssdf, who execute the staff indiscriminately. to protect her, misato places asuka in unit 02 at the bottom of a lake. she also saves shinji from would-be assassins, and asks him to pilot unit 01 to save himself and asuka. she kisses him, which is also strange and uncomfortable, and dies from a gunshot wound. shinji goes to unit 01 but finds it immobilized by a substance called bakelite. gendo take rei to the captured body of lilith. he intends to combine the soul of lilith, which is in rei, with the body of adam, which is in his palm. asuka comes out of her comatose state when she finds out that her mother's soul is found within unit 02. she defeats the mass produced eva units that seele has unleashed upon her. they come back to life after she is done, and start mutilating and eating unit 02. unit 01 goes beserk and frees itself and shinji enters the battleground just in time to see this. this marks the transition to the second episode. rei decides to go against gendo's wishes, takes adam for herself and merges with the body of lilith. this triggers the spear of longinus to descend from its orbit around the moon. the rest of the episode is quite psychedelic. in the first passage, shinji makes contact with lilith and is essentially given the task of deciding the fate of humanity. because of his depression and loneliness, he decides all should die, and lilith triggers the third impact. people on earth dematerialize, usually in the embrace of those they admire or love most. shinji has regrets though, after another psychedelic episode yui convinces him that the joy of life is worth the pain. lilith is destroyed, and the souls of humanity are set free, and can return to a material body if they choose to. shinji and asuka return to their material bodies. yui in eva unit 01 and the spear of longinus are left to float through the universe. shinji begins strangling asuka, but she carresses him and he stops. after he stops, she voices disgust at his actions.
