every time you finish a sketch, he’s leaning over your shoulder, gasping dramatically like it’s a masterpiece worthy of a museum. “holy shit, you’re a genius,” he says, even if it’s just a doodle of a coffee cup. he’s genuinely obsessed with your talent and brags about it to everyone.

he’s always got an arm around you—draped over your shoulders, slung around your waist, or just holding your hand like it’s second nature. you’ll be walking to class, and he’s tugging you closer, grinning like an idiot because he can’t stand being more than two inches apart.

you’re “sweetheart,” “lovey,” “honeybunch,” “starlight”—he cycles through them like he’s testing which one makes you blush the most. sometimes he throws in absurd ones like ���my divine goddess of acrylics” just to see you roll your eyes.

when he thinks you’re not looking, he watches you paint with this dopey, lovesick smile. his usual cockiness melts away, and he’s just a guy stupidly, hopelessly in love with you.

he always carries your stuff. your art supplies? he’s got them slung over his shoulder without asking, complaining loudly—“these weigh a ton, you owe me”—but he never lets you carry them yourself.

he kisses you everywhere. forehead, cheeks, nose, lips—he’s a menace about it. he’ll sneak one when you’re mid-sentence, laughing when you sputter, “satoru, i’m talking!” “yeah, but i needed that,” he shrugs.

he loves sleeping on you. he flops onto your lap after practice, whining about how tired he is, but really he just wants to feel your fingers in his hair. you complain, but he’s already snoring softly, clinging like a koala.

he is always proud of your achievements. when your art gets picked for an exhibition, he’s louder than you about it, dragging his teammates to see it and pointing at your work like, “that’s hers, i’m dating a legend.”

one night, he’s sprawled across your bed, half-asleep, muttering nonsense about basketball stats, when he suddenly rolls over, props himself up on his elbow, and looks at you like you hung the moon. “hey,” he whispers, voice all gravelly and warm, “if i ever stop being this stupid over you, just… kick me, okay?”

Fais fanfic rambles: Introduction to my 'Selkies by Starlight' ISaT AU

Note: Not to be confused with @looped-140-and-counting / Soren_793's wonderful Selkie AU oneshot series 'The Northern Islanders are Selkies' which was hugely inspiring for this if potentially VERY different in vibe (we got very into talking about cloaks! XD)

Basic premise/summary:

In an alternate version of the precanon adventure, the party lead by Mirabelle to stop the King freezing Vaugarde in time, recruit Siffrin as per usual.

Thing is, Siffrin is a Selkie.

A very skittish selkie without a cloak of their own, who openly wears the cloak of another, and due to Reasons is under the impression that the party know all both of those things and the Implications about them, and for whatever reason have decided to welcome him into their group anyway.

Which er, he's completely wrong about as the party know absolutely nothing.

Mira and Isa like most Vaugardian humans think 'shifters' are just fairytales, Odile knows shapeshifters are real but is only really familiar with how foxes like her father work, and Bonnie is actually able to sense some pretty major things but is a preteen dealing with a lot and hasn't even joined the party yet, so this pretty major misunderstanding is sustained for quite a while...

Cue the AUs' main focus being on the resulting party dynamic shifts as more and more canon divergence due to Sif's 'selkie stuff' (both cute and serious) comes into play, the party slowly realising something is up, and all of it hitting an eruption point right around the time of the 4th Orb/the loss of Siffrin's eye...

Some key world building notes: (Note: very summarised from my docs. I have like 20k+ words on this stuff XD)

The Island - Probably the most drastically different thing from canon here, the Island was not forgotten or erased here. Rather it is hidden away and permanently shrouded in Wish Craft generated fog from 'those without cloaks'. Side note: Sif is still unable to return home and continues to have some very plot critical memory problems but those are due to unrelated issues, which means yay I get to have Sif talk 'home culture' with the others in this =D Also idk why the King is freezing Vaugarde still. I've got a few ideas I'm not sure about and he's not in focus enough for it to even matter really, but random suggestions -especially those with possible selkie motivations- would be very much appreciated.

Selkie powers in my setting - Went into something of a deep dive regarding selkie folklore for this and did you know they have an absolute ton of seer/oracle based stuff going on?

From selkie being summoned by their human lovers shedding seven tears into the ocean, to a selkie man telling a former lover that he and their child will die at the hands by her genuinely good and loving future husband, to a selkie woman forseeing her fisherman husband about to die out in a storm just in time for her to swim over there and rescue him, etc.

So... Yeah. This AU has a lot of plot relevant sensory/seer stuff going on as well as the standard seal shapeshifter stuff (Islander selkie traditionally believe it to be the Universe talking with them, in the same way Wish Craft is talking to the Universe), and going off all the stuff I read decided it'd be most fitting if the general rule for how it all works is: - Selkie always passively have a bit of it going on (aka Sif's canon 'you sense someone nearby' stuff) which like most things can be enhanced with Craft use a bit. - Near perfect understanding of all 'connected' bodies of water (aka they know EXACTLY where the tasty fish are/will be and can probably get a general sense of location for most people on a boat) - Potentially get strong 'visions of the future' and/or instincts on what they need to do to avert an outcome when it comes to loved ones being in danger/distress.

They also maybe get to pull very fast, high power Wish Craft 'curses'/miracles' at idk, the cost of something major like their cloak or lives (mostly based off of the The Legend of Kópakonan where the whole island of Kalsoy was cursed with death by a selkie in retaliation for her husband and children being murdered) but not super attached to this idea past it being in 'seal shifter' stories in-setting.

Other non humans in setting and regional differences in shifters - Pretty much only selkie and selkie issues are in focus here, but just as a general thing, all non humans in setting are shapeshifters and originated from human ancestors who went crazy with the the Body Craft and/or used Wish Craft in some way.

Ka Bue in particular has a ton of them since yokai, with their origins being various sects/clans back in the warring eras going so nuts with trying to weaponize Body Craft (super soldiers, enhanced life spans, infiltration, exploiting attraction to furries, etc), that after some particularly high profile incidents (for an idea plz see: Kiyohime, Tamamo no Mae, Kachi-kachi Yama) and 'Body Craft misuse leading to shut down of the brain/vital organs' being the most common cause of death for 10+ years once peace time was established, eventually Ka Bue's authorities set their foot down and banned Body Craft altogether.

Currently the shifter population in Ka Bue is around 30% of the population, shifters are required to have ID regarding their forms (or potential forms if they're merely 'half'), and it's considered distasteful for a shifter to be in non human form outside of private settings/necessity and even ruder to ask a shifter about their non human forms if they haven't brought the topic up yet first (kinda like seeing/asking about someone's underwear or something XD).

In contrast the Vaugarde, Mwudu and Porteria region is extremely shifter sparce, with most of its original shifter population being the result of various Universe worshipping peoples (mostly small groups, like greek mystery cults) deciding to use a big Wish Craft ritual as some sort of religious rite and becoming shifters as a side effect of their primary Wish (usually stuff like 'we wish for us and our descendants to be one with You and the sea/air' or 'may we Change with the phases of the holy moon' etc) which granted them some pretty neat skills but also tended to come with some 'potentially nasty' drawbacks attached (see: selkie and swan maidens with their cloaks, werewolves Changing in both body and mind etc) Which er, lead to some issues born of lack of knowledge about this stuff, later some very nasty anti shifter sentiment in the region, and then around... IDK 200 to 300 years ago or so ended up exploding into violence and other very nasty things, with most shifters able to do so fleeing the region, and those that couldn't either enduring horrible conditions until they could escape/died or went deep into hiding, with the Island's Country being founded by the two later groups who used Wish Craft to hide their new home, erase awareness of their existence from their enemies (a short term, fully intentionally 'forgetting' blast centered specifically around shifters), and developed a LOT of culture and traditions regarding when, who and what can be told to 'outsiders' about themselves, Wish Craft, etc in order to keep their people safe.

There are shifters living in present in Vaugarde of course (anti shifter sentiment died back a LOT after most people stopped thinking they were real, and most modern day Change Believers are more likely to view these 'totally fictional/allegorical' beings as children/messengers of the Change God rather than 'evil demons who stole power by tearing apart the Change God's cloak for themselves and thus have to be hunted down and made to repent' propaganda take that was everywhere back then) but numbers actually living outside the Island as opposed to merely visiting remain low, since either the shifters know their history and stick firmly to their 'stay secret' traditions or quickly pick up on how oddly unknown shifters are around these parts and decide to err on the side of caution... Also 'trust worthy' humans who do learn about them (usually northern coastal folk, gee wonder why) tend to help cover them up so... Yeah =D

Yes hello, I'm back to talk more about this again-

But it's some minor things with major lore(?) dumps. (I'm rambling again, aren't I)

Basically I kept on staring at the drawing, grumbling about the outline of the eyes being too light to differentiate with the hair, and said: "Screw it, I'm changing it" and did more than just change the color of the outline of the eye.

Now, you might wondering, why did I add all these things?

(Angst idea: the day after the bounty drops, bright and early at 5 AM, Atsushi folds the clothes the agency gave him neatly next to his futon with the phone on top, once again wearing clothes he never thought he would wear again, and just... leaves.)

[Rambling time buckle in-] In my head, I think him doing on-field work is rare, even with his powerful ability (unless he's deliberately told to help Akutagawa with a mission which he does with a bit of salt and pain [cos- hah- he has to deal with Byakko without All Men Are Equal now]) and when the ADA are involved (which he actively avoids it like the plague, whether he's asked to go on-field or even plan the operation). He would plan and oversee operations/raids instead, take care of incoming supplies and make sure everything's there (there's a fancier word for it but right now I don't have the brain power) and the more illegal stuff that aren't usual missions. The boring stuff, basically! (cough, which is why he looks tired, cough). Anything that isn't fighting/being outside (mood). — Other than that, I think that while he sticks close to Chuuya, Hirotsu will begin caring for the boy and taking him under his wing (maybe?). A veteran of the Port Mafia who knows much when it comes to their statistics, things that Atsushi needs to learn and operate. That, and possibly a promise... Whether or not Atsushi would lay down his loyalty and dedication to the Mafia, I think they would decline at first and let him choose on his own (and not be forced right into joining the organization right off the bat). Basically 15!Dazai, where he's not an official member of the PM but is there.

i’ve been coming up with different npmd ghost aus that were loosely based on julie and the phantoms (like very loosely) and then today i got struck with random inspiration for an au that more closely follows jatp and my brain would not shut up. now i have a bunch developed, so read if you’re interested. as a warning, it gets long and i ramble a bunch. i really just needed to get it out before my head exploded

this might not make sense if you haven’t seen the show, sorry. it follows the general plot of the show, but there are of course changes to fit with the npmd characters more and since the show was cancelled, there was never an ending so i’ll have to figure that out. as a stand in right now, this au is called “steph and the phantoms”

pete, richie, and ruth are sunset curve (their band name pending) pete is guitar, richie is drums, and ruth is vocals and keyboard. they’re teens in ‘95 and have finally gotten the courage and the gig to perform at the starlight. unfortunately, unknown to them, someone is trying to perform a spell and with the power of the black altar, it gets out of control. during the trios rehearsal the lights or something fall on them and they die.

cuts to 2020 where steph (she’s taking the julie role) is still the popular kid, but she’s still kinda a loner, not really that close to anyone. she’s been teaching herself how to play the bass in an effort to connect with her dead mom who she hardly knew. (her mom has more to do with this bc she was there at the starlight during the spell and that results in steph getting a touch of the gift when she’s born 7 years later)

steph finds some of her mom’s stuff that solomon kinda hid away and discovers one of the few cds the trio made. she plays it and the trio pops out and all four of them freak out. they were stuck in the black for 25 years but it felt like an hour for them.

the four of them figure out that they’re ghosts and only steph can see and hear them. and then they decide to become a band when they learn they can make their instruments appear and steph wants them to have the chance to really play since they couldn’t before they died.

with steph’s connections as the mayors daughter she gets them access to a small stage (or they are at the school auditorium or something) and they perform. (follows the show where the trio appears when they perform and disappears when the song ends.) but they are caught by someone at the tail end of a song and they see the ghosts disappear. steph gives the excuse that it’s a hologram, at the nerds’ suggestion. which kickstarts their band being able to perform in front of ppl.

they get gigs around town (hatchetfield is bigger than what it usually is, kinda more city like.) pete and steph are going to be like luke and julie. so lautski!

they learn more about the ghost stuff from the ghosts, max and grace. they take on willie’s role. caleb is most likely going to be wilbur cross and his goal is to do something evil with souls (still figuring it out.) a ghost is the continuation of someone’s soul (for this au) and cross needs a lot of soul power which makes the nerdy trio so enticing bc they can be seen by alive ppl which is not a normal ghost thing. grace and max are his main lapdogs that control hatchetfield’s ghost population. the two of them are stronger ghosts than normal bc they each died by a black altar sometime during the 2000’s. they feed cross intel for any leads on strong ghosts around town.

i plan to have halogear and platonic michie (aroace richie my beloved) where the relationship starts with max and grace showing interest bc they can be seen by a person and died by a black altar. they eventually grow very close in spite of this. the two are invited to a gig the band has and they realize how strong the nerdy trio is which makes them a big target for cross.

the two end up really liking the nerdy trio and steph (due to her touch of the gift and after max and grace spend a bunch of time with the nerds) is able to see them too.

the au fluctuates between the three pairs of relationships and all of them growing as friends while the soul stuff starts in the background and grows more important. cross eventually coerces the nerdy trio to make a deal so he can have their power. where they have a tattoo thing on them and if they disobey cross, they get jolted and after a bunch of jolts, they cease to exist.

his big evil plan is still something i’m working on, but definitely has ties to the libs and most likely pokey.

there’s more nuance to a bunch of stuff and this is already too long to go into a lot of the specifics. (but i will if ppl are interested in more!)

i’m not going to have flynn, carrie, bobby stealing songs, ray and carlos bc it doesn’t really fit. i don’t want an exact replica of the show and putting npmd characters in the concept should already change it a lot. i might borrow some plot lines, but it most likely is going to be different from the show.

i do want to do the unsaid emily subplot with pete, but it’s not his mom, it’s his brother. since pete needs to be a teen in ‘95, that means he is the older brother in this au. in pursuit of his dreams to be in a band he cut ties with his family and unfortunately ted. (little subplot where ted is such a sleazeball bc pete left and never came back to be a better influence)

that’s what i have for now, all of this came to me today and my mind is still buzzing. if you made it here thx!! im already obsessed with this concept and so down to bounce ideas around if anyone else is down too. if ppl want more i can definitely expand and i will probably write this one in the relatively near future, maybe! i really hope this kinda made sense.

Sexuality Headcanon: Akira is either bisexual or just unlabeled sapphic to me, with an obvious femme-aligned preference because everyone in revue starlight does but I think lesbian for Akira is just too easy. she simply does not care since her standards are pretty solid and she's not super focused on romantic endeavors outside of roles. she can be a little aromantic spectrum as a treat, too!

Gender Headcanon: gosh i hate this question because it is like one of the things about akira i can never settle on in my mind. is she cisgender. is she gnc. is she transgender. is she masculine. is she feminine. is she both. neither. all. she's akira yukishiro. frau platin, king of the siegfeld institute of music. that's it

A ship I have with said character: I think the biggest one is definitely Akira and Michiru for me, but I have gained much appreciation for Akira and Hisame over the months as well................ i see the vision.

A BROTP I have with said character: Akira and any/all of the Edels, definitely! But that's a given, naturally. especially Shiori or Mei Fan, if we're not counting Michiru for shipping purposes. UM OH. Akira and Fumi!!!!! they're divorced (nudge nudge. your favorite) and they're both so goofy and gosh I love their dynamic so much. when they reconciled . oh my goddd. Akira and Seiran as a whole too, all three of them, but Koharu the most. again . if we're not counting Hisame for shipping purposes, but also in general I think the two of them [Koharu] can bond over so much, like Akira and Maya can, or how Maya and Koharu can. speaking of Maya, Akira and Maya!!! the ones from seisho I see the most bonding with Akira actually would be Maya, Karen and Junna. Junna because of the funny new york stuff in stage plays specifically but even then. ALSO ARURU. BECAUSE I THINK IT'S SWEET AND SILLY.

A NOTP I have with said character: UHHH as always anything not appropriate. juniors, etc. I don't really vibe with Akira and Yachiyo? as anything romantic. I don't think I really hate anything, most things I'm just indifferent towards. if anything, I mean I never understood Akira and Aruru romantically too much either, but I also think in a lot of ways it can be super cute? so idk! Akira and Shizuha maybe. shrug! I'll get back to you on that some other day

A random headcanon: Sun suggested one and I like it so I'll say it first, because Akira ice skates she'd probably be decent if not really good at roller skating, or alternatively she's really flat-out really bad at it for some reason. another one, because she loves horror media, she's really straight-faced watching horror movies and playing roles for plays that are meant to be scary or intimidating, and it makes people really nervous or freaks them out. she's really good at scaring, despite her secretly goofier nature. I'll throw in one more while I'm here, she's really good at flirting and making romantic gestures, but she rarely displays this behavior and it's a side of Akira virtually no one gets to see outside of roles, even future romantic partners.

General Opinion over said character: literally only good things!!! i said this in the rui part of this ask but i have so many comforts and favorites from the source i can't just choose my #1 favorite but akira is definitely up there in the characters of all time category. she has so many layers and i want to study each individual part under a microscope. she's so interesting. she's so silly and awkward. she's so serious and intimidating. she's so secretive. she's so heart on her sleeve. i love her puppy dog expressions in her live2d sprites i love every role she plays i love her singing voice. akira is just so cool!!! i know as mei fan and shiori i looked up to her a lot, i don't want this to be a mile long but she is just so everything, truly

A ship I have with said character: TAMAO AND RUI. FOREVER AND EVER. but also Rui and Yuyuko when it's Fumi and Tamao, I've seen Rui and Shiori and while I don't actively ship it myself because I have others with Shiori that are important to me, I find it to be extremely adorable and 100% can get behind this. love is love

A BROTP I have with said character: anyone from rinmeikan, and mostly yuyuko! I also super love love love the friendship she has with Shiori it makes me so stupidly happy, and all of her interactions with others in her bond stories too! I said this in the Mei Fan one ages ago but 100% I think Rui and Mei Fan would have lots to discuss and relate on, ie: their genderisms, their fighting abilities in acting and how they both reflect/differ, plus their intense admiration for their senpais and partners, etc! and of course, it goes without saying but definitely her relationships with the Chasing Sirius squad, that being Tamao/Kaoruko/Futaba, and especially Kaoruko and Futaba if we count Tamao as something romantic. we love you rui my friend rui

A NOTP I have with said character: same as always, nothing weird nothing gross. there are a lot of characters I don't see working out with Rui like Maya, Claudine, Akira, most of frontier and seiran, etc, but they're not like worth mentioning here. mostly Kaoruko/Futaba if anything, and Fumi too of course. these are all just personal though!

A random headcanon: she's the gentlest giant in the whole wide world but she unintentionally scares everyone in the dorms because she will silently just stand in the hallways or doorways especially because she's too nervous to speak up and get someone's attention until it's too late and they see her or her shadow and freak out. also also she helps tamao with the garden and is always accidentally crushing the flowers or is too gentle and doesn't pack enough dirt around them. tamao of course thinks it's sweet and is never upset but will fix them when rui isn't looking after praising her for a job well done anyway, rui will even tend to the garden when tamao can't and it's usually then that she doesn't 'mess up' -- likely because tamao. isn't there

General Opinion over said character: WAWHAWHAHWHAGHAHGHHGHGHJFGG. ONE OF MY FAVORIEST EVERS. I love everyone in revstar soooo so so so much everyone is a comfort character but if you held me at gunpoint to give you my top 3 characters I would probably have to say Yachiyo, Rui, and uhhhh uhhhh uhhhh um. um. never mind this is way too difficult . but uhhh!!! Rui Rui Rui I love Rui Akikaze so so much, I am so very endlessly proud of her and every development she's had since the beginning of starira's story especially arcana onwards. she's done so much for herself and for those around her, she's really grown into such a beautiful person. I hope she's proud of herself too, and loved herself each and every day

PELSWICK NEEDS MORE APPRECIATION. I feel like the show was a victim of "wrong place, wrong time"- I don't think enough people appreciated it in 2000 and Nickelodeon really wasn't a good fit for it (watching it as an adult...it feels like it's skewing higher than Nick's target demographic. In a different way than Invader Zim or Rocko). I feel like a revival aimed at a more "teen" demographic without Nick's backing would be amazing. Even the stuff that did drag it down a little (again, it really feels like Nelvana and Nick couldn't agree on if it was a show for older kids or younger kids- Nelvana classifies it as a "teen" show now and Nick was pushing it for the 6-11 group) feels like it would've been smoothed out by a third season. It's got the best disability representation I've seen in a cartoon, and when it premiered it was really refreshing to have a main character in a wheelchair who was an actual CHARACTER and not a "token". Even as a kid I didn't really appreciate it enough (to be fair...I was probably too young when it was airing and it didn't help that the show was always in weird timeslots) but now? It's super ahead of its time. Tubi's got it for free but it would be great if maybe Diskotek could give it a DVD release. Would've gotten one from Funimation back in 2004 but apparently interest wasn't high enough (but there was enough for My Dad the Rock Star...????)

Also it's hilarious knowing the title character shares a voice with Rubeus from Sailor Moon in the DiC dub.

独尊__He had gotten the gist of it from his students and their varying rambling explanations of all the stuff he had missed while banished to the card graveyard, most of which he could have guessed from the time he had seen the anomaly with an unfettered six eyes. Something about a brother complex, which made sense from a half-curse perspective, something about humanity being combined with the worst intrusive thoughts people could come up with.....ending in... this guy, who had somehow lodged his gigantic ass into a space way too small for it. Well, Yuji said he was on their side, so.. that was great! That kid needed as many people who cared about him as physically, spiritually and mentally possible. The incredulity in starlight cerulean was poignant, a light brow arced way above his hairline, before he crouched idly, to get a bit more eye-level.

My idea for season 7 that just appeared to me. Brendon's getting married. Okay, okay hear me out.

We have a soft reboot. All the crazy stuff that happened at Starlight happened a while ago. By pattern recognition, this season is meant to be not only the wholesome season but could also be like a reintroduced or an introduction. The episode numbers are labeled. Don't know why anyone thought having a series of episode numbers being labeled would be a good idea. Especially if episode order is important!

We start with a much smaller cast. It's mostly just fun wacky mystreet stuff but with the ocationally moment dealing with the trauma or things that are important to bring up ocationally, reintroducing it not only for a new audience but also people who haven't watched the old series in a while.

It also focuses on "New characters" a bit more. Brendon is actually an important character, and Kiki makes an appearance finally.

Brendon is getting married! Aphmau and Aaron are worried about their own future wedding. Also Mikai is there and is worried about his sister or something. Idk.

A new idea popped in my head. Kc maybe started a bakery or a new maid cafe because something something, popular nightclub. She's definitely in this season. Maybe she could even be making the cake. It's kind of like Dale's and Donna's wedding, but in a completely different context. I feel like Dante and Travis wouldn't be friends anymore. I don't know. I'm very much rambling.

Also, this all takes place on a new street. It could seem like a mystreet reboot or a different series, but it wouldn't really have to be. Again this is just a big old jumble of words. You don't have to like it or hate it. But you're free to do anything you want from it. It's like just random junk I threw on the floor.
