The GorseBeech kin (plus Hootwhisker for some reason) finally fully designed!

My references for these cats were so old and didn't look enough like a family to me, so I put them all on one canvas and decided to redo them all.

From left to right, up to down we have

Beechfur and Gorsetail

Swallowtail, Sedgewhisker and Thistleheart

Hootwhisker, Brookkit, Stripekit, Larkwing, Featherpelt, Oatclaw

Leafkit, Branchkit, Grasskit, Flutterfoot, Whistlepaw and Songleap.

I might in the future post these designs individually, but I really just needed a good reference for all of these cats so this is mostly for me, but I have to say it's quite fun to see all these cats together in one big drawing.

My predictions for the protagonists of Changing Skies, the ninth arc in the Warriors series

WindClan: Leafkit

Daughter of Featherpelt and Oatclaw, her littermates are Branchkit and Grasskit, and her older siblings are Whistlepaw, Flutterfoot, and Songleap. They focused a lot on Leafkit in Wind, so I think she will likely be a POV character, especially since Whistlepaw is her older sister. The story team also said that Whistlepaw will become more prominent in the series, so having her younger sister as a protagonist will definitely serve that purpose. Adding onto this, WindClan has never had a POV character in the main series, so this is long overdue.

ThunderClan: Stempaw or Graypaw

They are Spotfur and Stemleaf's kits and perfect protagonist material. Related to Firestar? Check. Parents were plot relevant? Check. ThunderClan? Check. They are also being given a lot of attention right now. I do not think Bristlepaw will be a protagonist, due to Bristlefrost having the name of Bristlepaw one arc earlier. (Leafkit will not have this same issue as The New Prophecy was six arcs earlier.)

These are the only candidates who have really received attention, but there are several others to consider.

RiverClan: Floatkit, Rapidkit, or Troutkit

They are the kits of Havenpelt and Sneezecloud, and younger siblings to Splashtail and Fognose. They will have to deal with their older brother's legacy once he is gone. They could also provide a window on how RiverClan is doing after this current arc.

SkyClan: Ridgekit or Duskkit

They are the kits of Blossomheart (sister of Hawkwing) and Harrybrook (son of Leafstar). Duskkit is most likely named after Duskpaw, Blossomheart's dead brother.

ShadowClan: Birchpaw

He is the son of Tigerstar and Dovewing, and younger brother to Shadowsight, Pouncestep, and Lightleap. He appeared in Sky when his brother Rowankit died. I think this is the least likely option out of all of them, as I do not see much of what Birchpaw could bring as a protagonist, besides being the son of Tigerstar and Dovewing. That is unless, some sort of huge change happens within ShadowClan; then Birchpaw could provide a view into ShadowClan.

Other possible apprentice/kit options just for the heck of it (not including anyone who will receive their warrior name/medicine cat name very soon):

SkyClan: Beepaw or Beetlepaw, kits of Nectarsong and Dewspring (who are first cousins, of course)

WindClan: Grasskit or Branchkit, littermates of Leafkit; younger siblings to Whistlepaw, Songleap, and Flutterfoot; and kits of Featherpelt and Oatclaw.

ThunderClan: Bristlepaw, daughter of Stemleaf and Spotfur, and sister to Graypaw and Stempaw; or Wafflepaw

Of course, they could always choose to focus on a young warrior, like how they did with Sunbeam this arc, but these are just my speculations.

Edit: I can't believe I nearly forgot about Stripekit and Brookkit in WindClan, whose mother is Larkwing; and Cinnamontail and Slatefur's kits in ShadowClan: Firkit, Bloomkit, Streamkit, and Whisperkit.

But Trout is a different cat than Splash and he and his clan will come to accept this.)

Stripekit is a grey cat with a streak of white following their side, like the bands of Silverpelt in the night sky. They enjoy a lot of the little things in life, but their favorite thing is to stare at the stars and ponder. Even their mother knows their thirst for adventure knows no bounds, and expects they'll leave the colony one day. With their brilliant green eyes, charming smile, and penchant for loyalty, though, they're certain to win the hearts of all they meet.

Would Ziggy be Emma's apprentice?

yup!! at first she really really didn’t want an apprentice since that meant more ties to HatchClan, and her original plan was to leave as soon as Tinykit (Tim) grew up… but when a hawk swooped down and tried to take little Stripekit away, she fought like hell to wrestle them back to the ground safe and sound. They’ve idolized her ever since, which she is very amused by.

My guess is that Leafkit will be a protag in the next arc.

I didn’t think of this before, and now you say it I think it’s very likely and I really hope so. WindClan is due a protagonist, they’re the only clan that hasn’t had one in the arcs now, and Leafkit stands a good chance given that she has had focus at such a young age, even a very specific physical description which seems a little odd for a cat doomed to be in the background forever, and also her appearance is quite distinct.

It also would be fun to have her as a pov given that (as long as none of the current kits die) by the time she’s an apprentice there will be five apprentices total, herself, her two siblings, and Brookkit and Stripekit. Also she is the little sister of Whistlepaw, who Whistlepaw acknowledges as such which is rare in warrior cats for siblings to be acknowledged across different litters.

Honestly Leafkit would be perfect as a protagonist. I truly hope she becomes one.

Hey so, do you ever feel.. Iffy? Bad? Disappointed? That the Fandom at large only became interested in whistlepaw thanks to faer ship with Frostpaw? I admittedly was feeling a bit like that when the ship first started popping up, although I understand that Whis is quite a background character aside from that (and up until then, more or less). So like I get why fae would gain more traction only now but Idk. I can't help but feel a little sad about it since you've made me develop an attachment to this cat. Just curious about your thoughts on the matter!

I get chronically attached to background nobodies, so I'm used to people not really caring about my faves and I honestly like it more that way because popular characters are A Mess of discourse and drama,

but yeah it is a bit sad that Whis is only really seen as a love interest for Frostpaw in the major fandom, but in a way that's also what fae is in the books. Whistlepaw does nothing outside of supporting Frostpaw (and that annoys me So Much for daily whis purposes, I want more material!!!) and I can't blame the fans for not latching onto background WindClan cat #78 and making up a whole world around them

in the end the fandom portrayal is kinda bland, but inoffensive at least. I made Whistlepaw my little silly and have never really cared about the fandom at large; Fae's basically my oc at this point and if a few people enjoy what I do then I'm content

It took a quarter-moon of nagging, but Bouncerumble’s finally convinced Buzzardfur to travel to the Moonfalls. Shining water crashes from the cliff to the riverbed below, creating an almost deafening clamor that has him wondering how medicine cats can stand coming here every half-moon. He sighs and shakes off the thought, but what floods into his brain next is even worse: how does he deserve this? Why him? What do the others see in him? This can’t be the right choice. Still, if Bouncerumble is so convinced that StarClan will grant him nine lives …

After a long walk—during which Buzzardfur nearly slips on the wet rocks multiple times—Bouncerumble comes to an abrupt stop next to a fallen tree trunk that spans the river. “Sit,” they say, and Buzzardfur does, staring into the water that sparkles beneath Silverpelt.

“This is the place?” 

Buzzardfur winces at his own stupid questions, but Bouncerumble simply nods. “Touch your nose to the water,” they instruct, “and let your mind be free. StarClan will visit you. I know they will.”

Buzzardfur is still dubious as he crouches down next to the river, but he obeys nonetheless. 

It doesn’t happen right away, but it doesn’t take too long, either. One moment, all he sees is the inside of his eyelids; the next, Buzzardfur finds himself in the center of a grassy clearing, his fur drenched in silvery starlight. He looks down at the ground and rubs one paw against the thick grass beneath it; he knows—thinks—he hasn’t physically moved, but it feels as real as the wet rock had just a few moments ago. 

Why is he alone, though? Where is everyone? Surely some cat is supposed to be here to greet him—nine of them, if they’re planning on giving him his nine lives. But …

“Buzzardfur.”

Buzzardfur starts, the fur on his back raising, and whips around, but when he sees who it is, his haunches settle. It’s nobody he knows, he thinks, not even anyone he’s seen at a gathering, but somehow, the cat who’s greeted him—a small, silvery-white tom with black swirls in his fur—is familiar, like an old friend. “You’re … Do I know you?” he asks, and the other cat smiles gently.

“Not yet.” The other cat shakes his head, though the smile remains. “I’m here to watch over you and the cats you lead. My name is Lambheart.”

“Lambheart,” Buzzardfur repeats. “Are you … are you from the original WaspClan?”

The smile on Lambheart’s face falters. “I was, yes,” he says after a beat, a hint of sadness in his voice. “It was a good clan when I knew it. We were …” He shakes his head. “No, that’s not what I’m here to talk about. There’s a new WaspClan, Buzzardfur, and I want to help give you the power to lead it.”

Buzzardfur’s questions are still myriad, but he doesn’t protest, as much as he wants to. “Right. I’m ready,” he lies, and shuts his eyes.

When Lambheart touches his nose to his forehead, Buzzardfur hardly has a moment to register it before a wave of intensity washes over him. There’s no other word to describe it: it’s not a good feeling or a bad one, just … intense. Over the pounding over his heart in his ears, he makes out Lambheart’s words: “Take this gift, to help you endure in the face of hardship.”

Buzzardfur opens his mouth to reply, but finds himself speechless. When he manages to open his eyes, he finds himself surrounded by wispy, starry figures in the shape of cats. Some of them are strangers, but some he recognizes—his sister Stripekit, who’d died of redcough; his father’s best friend, Wolftooth, who’d been slain by a SaplingClan warrior. His voice fails as he tries to call out to them, but just seeing them fills him with warmth.

“We grant you your remaining eight lives,” they say, a chorus of meows filling the air. Over and over, Buzzardfur is hit with swirls of energy, stronger than anything he’s ever felt before. “Use them well, with our blessing.”

The StarClan cats’ voices are still echoing in his mind when Buzzardstar opens his eyes—his real ones this time. He stares at the star-speckled water of the Moonfalls, breathing heavy. Buzzardstar, Buzzardstar, Buzzardstar!

“Buzzardstar?” Bouncerumble asks, and the voices fall silent.
