Of course! That’s who the white stripe on the trans flag is for, y’know. This event is for all non-cis characters and creators.

Sure, as long as you’re respectful and have done your research.

How do I participate?

- Make sure you have an AO3 account, because that is where works will be posted.

- Submit prompts via this form.

- There will be another form posted on Feb 16 to claim a prompt. Prompts are claimed on a first-come, first-serve basis. You will receive an email confirming which prompt you have claimed.

- You create something based on your prompt.

- Post your work to AO3, and make sure that you post it to the Trans Thedas Fest collection by entering “trans_thedas_fest” (without quotation marks) in the Post to Collections/Challenges box.

- Works will be revealed on March 31.

What do I need to write for a prompt?

You can be as vague as “something about [character name],” or as elaborate as you like. But try to be detailed enough to give writers/artists something to work with.

What characters can I write/draw/write prompts about?

Any of them, as long as the focus of the work is on a trans character—one of the canonically trans characters (such as Krem, Taash, Maevaris, etc), a trans OC, or a canon character that you headcanon as trans.

What are the requirements for what I create?

Fic: at least 500 words (no maximum word count)

Art: clean line art

Use of generative AI is not allowed.

Fanfic should be standalone (not part of a series).

Make sure it’s rated and tagged appropriately.

Please wait to post your pieces on social media until after they have been revealed on AO3.

Justice for Jacob: Jacob Taylor Fix-It Week

From February 10-16, this blog is hosting Jacob Taylor Fix-It Week 2025 to encourage new posts and fanworks about Jacob Taylor!

Why a fix-it week instead of a general appreciation week? Because we all know his writing and storyline in canon are not great. That's where we as a fandom can step in to make things better for him!

Post about Jacob with the tag #JacobFixIt2025 during February 10-16 and we will reblog.

This does not have to be full on fanart, fanfiction, edits/gifsets, mods, etc (though these are of course beloved): even if it's a rec list of Jacob fanworks you like, bullet points of how you'd fix his storyline, or an "I think Jacob would look cool with locs" one liner post, you are welcome here.

Optional themes

You don't need to follow the themes nor post for every theme: these are just inspiration to get your brain going!

Day 1 - Feb 10: Dossier Anything you would change about Jacob's background before we meet him in 2, be it his general background or his Galaxy or Foundation storylines.

Day 2 - Feb 11: Suicide Mission 2 is the main place people meet and form opinions on Jacob. Turn things around for him in the 2 storyline.

Day 3 - Feb 12: Loyalty Mission Racist tropes ahoy. What alternate loyalty mission would you give him?

Day 4 - Feb 13: Wartime Jacob's writing does not fare much better in 3 than 2. Imagine a different approach to the Reaper War for him.

Day 5 - Feb 14: Ships It's Valentine's Day, let's treat the man! Fix a ship of his, launch a boat with someone new, or make him some friends.

Day 6 - Feb 15: Crossovers Bring out your Wakandan Jacobs, Pokémon gym leader Jacobs, Destiny Titan Jacobs, you name it. Andromeda crossovers can come too.

Day 7 - Feb 16: Free day!

Rules

Be positive: No character bashing (this doesn't mean you need to be all hearts and stars about his canon storyline, especially given that this is a fix-it event, but we can be critical of the writing without bashing characters)

Be cool: No bigotry of any kind against real people (warn for fictional bigotry) nor whitewashing

Be polite: Respect your fellow creators and different ships, put NSFW or long content under a cut, tag common triggers

The Hunter X Hunter Big Bang has been running since 2016, having a total of 600+ participants, 15+ mods, and new content to bring together old and new fans in a collaborative space!

A Big Bang is a writer and artist focused fandom event where writers create large scale stories and artists create works based on them creating a big bang of content at the conclusion of the event!

Do you like seeing cubitos hurt in a variety of ways, and then comforted afterwards? Do you sometimes go "man I wish I had an incredibly long list of ways to hurt and then comfort my guys"? Do you like working to a prompt someone gave you? Do deadlines comfortably far off in May fill you with a sense of security and peace?

CAN I INTEREST YOU IN THE HURT/COMFORT EXCHANGE?

The exchange is a big multi-fandom exchange, so as with other exchanges, you sign up with your list of Requests (things you'd like as a gift), and Offers (things you're willing to make as a gift), Ao3 runs a big machine that matches you, and then you will have six weeks to work on your gift before the deadline. It's a freeform exchange, so in addition to matching on ships (CharacterA & Character B (Character A Hurt) or Character A/Character B (Both Hurt)), you also need to have signed up and said that what you want for the gift is "Arranged Marriage - friends try to comfort anxious newlywed". Or "Character A Takes A Blow Meant For Character B". Or "Character who is afraid of vulnerability cries during sex". Or "Estranged Characters - Injured A shows Up on B's doorstep Saying "I didn't know where else to go"". I could go ON. There are probably thousands of freeform tags and honestly sometimes I browse them for inspiration.

We are currently in the nominations phase, which is when everybody submits the ships and freeforms they want to see in the tagset, because once Nominations are over, you will only be able to sign up with the ships and freeforms (basically little prompts) that people have already submitted to the tagset.

The Final February Giveaway

In honor of Black History Month I present my final giveaway of Frebruary!

A copy of the founder of the Black Girl Hockey Club R. Renee Hess' book of essays Blackness is a Gift I Can Give Her: On Race, Community, and Black Women in Hockey.

This one will be slightly more involved than the other two though.

To enter you must:

Make a piece of art around the theme of "Celebrating Black Women in Hockey." I cannot stress this enough: It does not have to be good, but you do have to try. I'm not expecting anyone to put hours and hours of work into it, just that you clearly thought about the topic, came up with an idea, and tried to creatively express it through art. So if you aren't a great artist you need only do your best. But if I get someone submitting a drawing of a stick figure with a line pointing to it that says "Nikki Nightengale" I'm not gonna count it. [I will respect the Nightengale shoutout though]. And I'm talking any form of art! You can do a drawing of Sophie Jaques. You can do an 15 second interpretive dance of how Saroya Tinker makes you feel. You could write a little poem about being a fan of color. You could create a photo set wherein you try and recreate Sarah Nurse's walk-in fits with stuff you have around the house. You could write a little ode to the greatness of Laila Edwards. You could make a punny Mikyla Grant-Mentis valentine card. You could make an snow sculpture depicting the hope for continuing advancements of black women in hockey. You could do so many different things! You do you.

Have fun with it! This isn't about making masterpieces to hang in a museum. So there's no reason to stress. This is just about all of us getting together to have a good time and celebrate these amazing women and their accomplishments.

Post your art here on Tumblr so we can all enjoy it! Just be sure that I can see it. So be sure to tag me in it so I can be sure to see it.

Analyzing Invention: January - June 2025

The first half of the year has passed, and that means a full 6 months of card designs submitted to the Inventor's Fair, a Magic: the Gathering card design contest blog here on Tumblr. Like all the past years, each week there have been awesome submissions, stunning designs, and marvelous interpretations.

For the uninitiated, each week, a design challenge is announced on the blog and members of the community create cards meeting the design specifications. At the end of the week, a few winners and runner-ups are selected from the submission.

So let’s take a look at the data – what was 2024 like for the Inventor’s Fair?

The Contests

So far this year, there has been 25 contests spread over the 6 months. A special thanks to the judges @abelzumi and @spooky-bard, who have shared their expertise in 24 of the 25 contests, and @loreholdlesbian, who returned once as a guest judge.

Of the contests, most challenges fell into the Standard (In-Universe) bucket [23/25], with 2 challenges being "Anything Goes" (no format restrictions) - Asp-irations (Feb 2nd) and Breaking Point (June 15th).

Across the 25 contests, there were a total of 665 entries, which comes out to be an average of 26.60 entries per contest. This was spread out pretty evenly over the 6 months: January (28.00), February (26.50), March (25.20), April (27.75), May (26.75), June (25.75). The contests with the lowest participation (21 entries) were "Gotcha" Games (Feb 16th), Lap 2 (March 2nd), and Solid Ground (March 9th). The week with the highest participation (31 entries) was Brand Re-Ignition (Jan 19th).

The Entrants

Across the 25 contests, there have been 74 unique entrants. A special shout-out to the 7 who have submitted to each contest so far this year: @curiooftheheart, @nine-effing-hells, @izzet-always-r-versus-u, @deg99, @bread-into-toast, @xenobladexfan, and @hypexion. Y'all rock! There have been 15 total entrants who have submitted in 20+ contests, while 25 total who have submitted in at least 50%.

Also, a warm welcome to those who made their first submissions for the year during the month of June: @archivists-doll, @insane-bad-idea-person, and @taran-wanderer. It's good to have you here!

With this being a weekly contest, Winners and Runner-ups are picked for each challenge. It's interesting to look at these entrants by their "Batting Average", or number of times they were selected by the total number of submissions they've designed. As has been asked in the Discord, this does not include the times they were awarded "Judge's Pick" in Judge Commentary: this is primarily a notation given by @abelzumi, so I have omitted it as a data point for consistency's sake.

The Submissions

Here are some of the specifics of what has been submitted so far this year!

Types

These categories are if the Card Type was part of the Type Line, so an entry that had multiple card types (front and back) would be in placed in multiple buckets.

Creature - 352 entries

Artifact - 108 entries

Enchantment - 105 entries

Sorcery - 83 entries

Instant - 60 entries

Land - 39 entries

Planeswalker - 6 entries

Battle - 4 entries

Kindred - 2 entries

As always, Creatures takes up a lion's share of the designs. What is interesting is that the designers already have made more Artifacts, Lands, and Planeswalkers than the entirety of 2024: Artifacts (107), Lands (12), and Planeswalkers (3).

And while it isn't a type, let's give the Legendary supertype a shout-out: so far there have been 99 designs submitted that show just what it means to be a one-of on the battlefield. And it just so happens that 78 of those could even find their way into the command zone.

Mana Value

I love a good bell-curve, and it continually surprises me to see one form in the mana value of these contests. There is a slight anomaly with there being a nice chunk of 0-mana costs, but that is easily explained by the number of lands designed thus far, thanks to the Solid Ground contest (Mar 9th).

It's always interesting to see that a majority of designs hits at MV 3, with either MV 2 or MV 4 taking 2nd (and then 3rd) place. I wonder what that says about the designers enjoyed play-styles...

Once again, most designs sit at either uncommon or rare. Together, they make up 81.4% of the total designs.

Color

And finally, the section in which I talk about how Green is the least designed color... EXCEPT FOR THIS TIME!!! Green has actually seen a huge surge, with it now placing in 3rd in both the Color Identity and Mono Color brackets. Blue continues to be dominant, because who doesn't like designing for that sneaky boy? So who's behind this time around? Green's neighbors, Red and White.

RAIN CODE ZINE - Interest Check Results!

Hello! After a week, we've gathered an encouraging 88 responses! With that in mind, I've decided to go through with the zine 🎉🎉🎉

Here is the full results report:

In terms of participating, we have an overwhelming majority wishing to participate as artists! There's a fairly even split between writers and readers only, and just slightly less on anyone willing to take on either writer/artist roles. With this in mind, I've considered having this zine include 24 artists, 3 digital merch artists, and 6 writers, not including the moderators.

Here are the results regarding the zine's theme. We will be focusing on a general RAIN CODE zine! However, there will still be a theme so the zine can remain cohesive.

The theme is: A Trip Down Memory Lane!

For this theme, I'm hoping for a variety of pieces focusing on each chapter of the story, from the prologue to the epilogue. I'll permit some pre-game and post-game works as well, but would prefer a major focus on the canon story.

We have a staggering dominance of people preferring to be an art moderator. Even with this in mind, we will be accepting one art moderator and one writing moderator. I will handle scheduling. Applications for both will be sent out soon.

Most people have agreed on a writer/artist collaboration, which means that 6 of the artist participants will be paired with a corresponding writer to draw art that accompanies their writing.

Most folks would be willing to have digital merch attached to the zine! We will accept 3 artists to make digital merchandise. The merchandise doesn't need to fit into any one chapter, so the rules will be a bit looser on what the art can portray.

Regarding some suggestions and questions asked in the interest check:

You should add keychains/physical merch/ physical copies. Full disclosure, this is the first zine I've ever run, so this zine will be a free, digital only PDF. This is to keep it as simple and manageable as possible.

A cosplay section? I would count cosplay under art. When I release artist applications, cosplayers are welcome to submit cosplay photos and even create them as entries to the final product.

Artists should make promo art! Once I have co-moderators and participants, any artists who are willing to offer simple doodles for promotional material are welcome to contribute.

Link contributor's Ao3 accounts in the zine? The zine will offer full credits for all participants in the zine. This includes any preferred social media accounts for sites such as Ao3, Wattpad, Twitter, Tumblr, and anywhere else.

How will this be scheduled? I intend to drop a full schedule post soon, but the basic rundown will be: 15 Jan - 22 Jan: Moderator Applications 24 Jan - 25 Jan: Moderator acceptance/rejection emails sent out, mods invited to the zine's discord server and emailing list. 1 Feb - 20 Feb: Artist/Writer Applications 25 Feb - 29 Feb: Artist/Writer acceptance/rejection emails sent out, participants invited to join the discord server and emailing list. 1 March - 15 Jun: Production period, with monthly progress check-ins for all participants 16 Jun - 29 Jun: Countdown period 30 Jun: Zine releases

I assure you, Vivia Twilight will appear at least one time in this zine!
