Okay, a few things about Shazam #20. It was unadulterated fan service for anyone who loved child Jonathan Kent. Not important, but something for any of you wanting to read it. Here’s the few things I actually want to mention:
1. It’s now canon that Billy Batson thinks Damian is the “coolest Robin.”
Tumblr media
2. Jonathan Kent isn’t harmed by magic. No explanation, but I’ll bite. It’s canon now.
Tumblr media
3. Jonathan Kent’s “kid” problem was never resolved. He just turns back into an adult by saying the word.
Tumblr media
So, everytime Jonathan Kent says the word “Shazam!” He changes into a kid again. If no fellow fan artist/writer doesn’t abuse the fuck out of this shit, I’m going to riot. Stupid idea to canonize, but if we can accept and use aged up Jonny, then this is up for the taking lol.

This issue is just taking the piss and throwing salt in the wounds about what has been stolen from us and what we can never have again 'cause of poor editorial choices. I'll never think otherwise, sorry

I think that from an in-universe standpoint, having Jon changing his hero name is pretty interesting. I think it has to do a lot with his journey to find and/or create his own identity. Maybe being Superman doesn’t really convey all that for him, so he finds solace in Super Son, but that’s still not it. I think that over time, he will come to that conclusion too and name himself something else entirely.
My issue is that I don’t know how long it’ll stick which is a problem because that name is closely linked to Damian and his past and I can see how that could be a problem. I really hope that’s not where things will be going because I actually kinda refuse to call him that. They’re either really putting effort into this by using that name, or just wanting to further separate him from Clark or trying to use nostalgia bait. Which could really really suck

Jonathan Kent will star in a one-shot tie-in to DC's big crossover in September -- Absolute Power: Super Son by Sina Grace, Nicole Maines, John Timms (who also did the cover) and Travis Mercer. It promises to be a tale of self-discovery for the son of Kal-El, as the younger Superman takes the fight to the Trinity of Evil.

Disappointed by Shazam #20, so I did a makeover. Here is what to look forward to:
- A story with a Conflict, Rising Conflict with weight that leads to the Climax before coming down to a satisfying Resolution
- Since Jon's de-aging issue from the power of Shazam was never resolved originally, this will no longer be a conflict
- Remembers that Kryptonians usually would be hurt by the Shazam lightning bolt because magic = hurt (whoops)
- More relationship development between Billy Batson and Jonathan Kent
- A better way to execute the message that DC insists on keeping Jonathan Kent as an adult without pissing off the fans or making the unresolved de-aging issue a contradiction to this message that other writers will most certainly use to make Jonathan Kent a child again (double whoops)
- Keeps Jon and Damian in character, including a reason for Damian to blow off his best friend in a way that makes sense to his character
- A bit of Super Sons banter
- Recognizes that the Super Sons are still there
- Recognizes that many of Jonathan Kent's comics weren't very good, with a promise to do better
- Still leaves some crumbs for the fans as an act of good faith and a bonus
- References some Shazam lore from past comics since the Shazam issues seem to be relying on that

While flying by Philadelphia on his way home, Jonathan Kent gets hit by Captain's lightning bolts and transforms into a kid. Realizing this ability to change into a teenager, what starts as a treat for Billy Batson as a courtesy for helping him transform into his adult form, Jon realizes he can regain what he lost from those six years robbed from him. However, doing so will come at a cost.

Sorry, but being happy for the death of someone, in front of the son of Superman, is a Red flag as big as a house for a relationship. There's nothing healthy about that, it's toxic
