This scene has been in my head for two years and needed out. So a quick comic it is. More space fairies. The Monarchs are called Sol and Nox. They belong to the same circle.

Sol is very polite and while disappointed, they do accept a 'no' from the human. But you do not say 'no' to Sol while Nox is around. It's not healthy for you or the rest of your crew. :)

Seriously, if Sol didn't like the humans Nox would've reduced the ship to metal scrap upon the first encounter. Nox is a fiesty powerhouse, but soft to their circle. If they want to hang out with the weird beings then they'll begrudgingly let them.

Hi @potahun, I'm your gifter for the Heishin Valentine Exchange and I picked your Ghibli movie prompt and went with Howl's Moving Castle c:

Close ups and explanations below~

It took me a bit of time to figure out which character I wanted to be who, but I settled with Shinichi as Howl and Heiji as Sophie! I think the idea of Shinichi being an other worldly character like Howl isn't too far off from how he is depicted in canon. From an outsider's perspective, Shinichi seemingly has all the answers to the many cases he comes across. Especially with the way Heiji reveres Shinichi, it's not hard to see him as someone larger than life. (Also Shinichi transforming into a bird creature whenever he intervenes in the war kind of fits with how he transforms into Conan in canon as he investigates the Black Organization)

As for Heiji as Sophie, I feel that putting Heiji in a position where he becomes old can parallel his struggle with his family's (particularly his father) distrust in him being a teen detective. But in this case, Heiji initially fears that growing old hinders his ability to remain a detective. Throughout the course of the film, his fears would be assuaged as Heiji helps end the ongoing war in spite of his age.

Now for the art itself, originally I wanted to pick one scene to focus on so that I could combine this prompt with your Heishin whump prompt. But then I figured it would be neat to take inspiration from the movie's song Merry Go Round of Life. The large ring was intended to mimic the roof and rim of a merry-go-round. Like imagine the roof and then you squish it down (if that makes lol)! The rims on merry-go-rounds often feature a circular frame with images of landscapes within. For that, I recreated backgrounds from the movie.

Given the name of the song, I felt that I should recreate different scenes from the movie to show the progression of Heiji and Shinichi's lives (I would've drawn Heiji much older but I was just struggling on how to execute that properly TT-TT). From right to left the scenes are; Shinichi intervenes in the war; Heiji views the meadow Shinichi shared with him; baby Shinichi cronches on a star; Heiji watches the parade celebrating the war effort; and Shinichi stares fondly at Heiji within the castle.

Anyways, have some bonus doodles I made while working on this piece to keep me sane c:

the service ends, there's mingling at the station before bobby is lowered into the ground later in the day. buck is putting on a brave face, caring for everyone, holding it together for them. eddie keeps trying to check on him, but he's dismissive, moving forward. eddie checks again, and buck snaps, says he's doing what bobby would want. eddie watches as buck's breathing calms, eye to eye, and then eddie says, with a gentle hand on buck's elbow, "let's go home"

cue chasing cars

let's waste time chasing cars around our heads

at the house, in the low, warm light, eddie guides buck to his room. buck finally breaks down

i need your grace to remind me to find my own

buck lies down and pulls eddie down with him

the scene transitions to athena standing at the gravesite with may and harry

the coffin is lowered into the grave

forget what we're told before we get too old

athena's eyes drop as she holds may and harry close to her sides

show me a garden that's bursting into life

we see the coffin again, athena shovels the first bit of dirt on top of it, we are seeing the dirt come towards us as the audience

BLAZE & SURGE. I have never finished a drawing of them interacting and I've got one in progress but I'm wauyyy too impatient to wait and spill all my thoughts about them under the cut of that so hey. My 1 follower. Listen listenlistenlistenli

Surge and her attempts at heroics didn't really work out. She tried it, it was boring, Kit created problems for her to solve (IDW #78), and once she found out, she gave it up. Kit wasn't going to be a villian without her. But Sonic&co wouldn't leave her alone, "[she was] almost there", "[she's] a good person deep down", etc. In order to get them off her back, she went out of her way to be an ass. She got into petty but gnarly fights. She estranged herself from Kit, half a genuine attempt to be cruel and half because she didn't want Kit going down with her. She became, somehow, more nasty than ever before, and reveled in it, hating herself and wanting to be worse.

The Sol Emeralds only ever called Blaze to Mobius when there was some world-ending type threat. She visited pretty often, whenever the Sol Dimension was in a peacetime she would check in on her friends. And half the time, they were in the wake of something that was decidedly not enough of a calamity for the Sol Emeralds to have summoned her. She did not like this. Even if it strained her awfully, Blaze wanted to know every time that there was a threat on Mobius and be there to fix it herself. But, visiting daily, as would be required to deal with these kinds of issues, was not an option. She tried it, and the Sol Empire suffered due to her drained energy and the Emeralds' sapped power. So she ended up just going to Mobius whenever she could afford to, and picking over every crook in every city and town and whatever stamping out everything that might end up being a problem.

And then :) they :) encounter each other :)

Like isn't there a lot you can do with that??? Blaze (I-can-and-have-to-fix-and-then-subsequently-protect-every-thing-and-person) meet Surge (I-am-fundamentally-incapable-of-being-a-good-person-and-therefore-have-to-"seem"-evil-so-people-will-fuck-off)

They both lock onto the other as the Biggest Problem and the Perfect Way To Prove [whatever] and therefore can't mess with anything else. If Blaze messes up or misses something or doesn't save someone she has no time to worry about it because Surge is actively seeking her out and Surge forgets about her pick-a-buff-guy-and-goad-them-into-punching-you-first strategy because Blaze is actively trying to Fight Her Back and theyyyygjghg

I was trying to keep this all in past tense but whatever. Guys. "No harm must come to anyone" vs "I have to hurt everyone around me and myself" gyys. guys. guys.
