Exotic doctrine theory: Grappling & Booster-fu
Source of the song is "If you Dare", anime is Orguss 02 episode 1
When all conventional means of machine combat are forclosed, only unconventional means remain: This is what seperates the aces from the jobbers, bitches: the capacity to improvise.
A fighter pilot will jam the WEZ, that's weapon engagement zone: the minimum arming range of a missile before it will hurt both the enemy and yourself -- but what about mech pilots?
You get up in their BAZ; the Ballistic Attack Zone, with the tip of the barrel behind you. How do you stay safe up close like this?
You ever seen any soft-bodied octopus or starfish get into a crab?
They have hard bodies and are all soft underneath, like a mech. They're not impervious.
Why? Any hard body is made of levers:
Drive any joint to its limit and you have an instant fulcrum to rip at the inner structures and shatter the outer form.
But then what?
No blades? No pile bunkers? No problem.
Ground talons. Rollers. Grappling hooks. Joints.
The sheer fucking mass and density of your armour plating.
Your whole body is a weapon.
Some of you make 3:1 against your mass with your boosters.
That's a lot of energy and if it has nowhere to go very bad things happen.
Some of you can do this with neural implants but you've got biofeedback out of the wazoo to contend with, which is why so many of you go twinkly eyed with overload daze out when you lock up with an opponent.
The smart among you are already running a specialist grips and inceptors in your cockpits, so you can dip out of the feedback when you need to and you're TAZ compliant: that's TORSION, ASPECT and ZONE controller, so named for the work of a Dr Senerchia, a fighter who deserved better than they got, and a treasure to us all.
So what does that mean to you?
A mixture of special software, and a pair of extra thumbsticks for your index fingers on your grips above the triggers.
Those of you familiar with loaders or cargo-work will find it familiar.
The rest of you: they're there to override and guide cueing information based entirely on brutal trial and error that'll make the size or weight of your frame irrelevant in CQB.
You can't rely on fixed solvers and playback to do the work for you with some existing motion-plan: You need to invent a new one on the fly using all of your fine control inputs.
So how is this relevant to you?
A Class A heavy support is fucked against a Class F attacker surely with the height difference and loadout, right? That's fifty tons of mass and nine meters of stature apart.
But watch an A slam its talons into the dirt, wrap the F with its wire anchors, and then perform a boost suplex, knock its barrels under the deflection plating of the other guy and follow-up up with a full sabot alpha-strike at point blank.
Any trainer worth their salt will teach you this shit.
You should know how to grapple with your sisters, and to practice regularly in and out of the cockpit. You need to get familiar with how bodies roll across eachother in motion.
You get lucky and you'll get some special training with oxytocin boosting mucus membrane massage and carotid restraint to simulate g-loc until you see stars to keep it memorable.
Have fun out there.
Class dismissed.

The theory that Travis McElroy was replaced by a lookalike after a fatal accident during a 2017 live show has gained traction in certain corners of the McElroy fan community. According to this theory, Travis lost his life near the end of a My Brother, My Brother and Me live event at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY, following a playful stunt that turned tragic. To keep their shows and family brand intact, the McElroy family allegedly replaced him with an impersonator, leading to noticeable changes in Travis’s personality and behavior.
During the live show in question, Travis reportedly climbed a tall stage speaker as part of an impromptu bit. He joked and laughed from atop the speaker while his brothers, Griffin and Justin, urged him to climb down, saying, "Travis, knock it off!" Travis appeared to feign a dramatic leap before losing his balance and falling, hitting his head on a monitor. The show stopped abruptly, and curtains were drawn as fans were ushered out. Some fans who lingered outside the venue saw an ambulance arrive. Witnesses claim to have seen Clint, Justin, and Griffin crying and holding each other near the ambulance as paramedics worked. Travis was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene or shortly thereafter.
The McElroy family, faced with an unimaginable decision, supposedly hired a lookalike to take Travis’s place. This "Replacement Travis" began appearing in public and on podcasts shortly after, but fans noted stark differences in his personality and behavior.
One of the most discussed changes was the shift in Travis’s social media presence. Prior to 2017, Travis’s Twitter was goofy but professional, reflecting his warm and laid-back personality. After the alleged replacement, "Replacement Travis" began posting cringeworthy, overly inspirational tweets, as well as frequent and fervent political statements. A notable example was a 2018 tweet encouraging fans to “embrace their inner unicorn,” which some fans found uncharacteristically cheesy. These posts were often dismissed as "trying too hard" to engage with the fanbase, unlike the subtle and authentic tone of the original Travis.
Fans also pointed to differences in his behavior on MBMBaM and The Adventure Zone. The original Travis had a grounded, self-aware humor that complemented his brothers’ comedic styles. Post-2017, "Replacement Travis" often interrupted conversations with awkward, poorly-timed remarks. His jokes became more erratic and over-the-top, sometimes derailing the flow of episodes. For instance, during a 2018 TAZ: Amnesty episode, he blurted out an unrelated idea about his character in the middle of a pivotal scene, confusing both his brothers and listeners.
Changes to his appearance also fueled the theory. Travis began dyeing his hair bright colors and adopting more gender-nonconforming styles, including nail polish and flamboyant clothing. While many fans celebrated these changes, others felt they seemed like an exaggerated attempt to distinguish himself or fit into a specific niche of the fanbase. These shifts, paired with his unfiltered, sometimes awkward remarks during live shows, gave rise to suspicion that this wasn’t the same Travis they had followed for years.
Critics also noticed that "Replacement Travis" often leaned into performative wokeness. While the original Travis was progressive, his approach was subtle and nuanced. The post-2017 Travis frequently brought up politics in situations where it felt forced or out of place. In one MBMBaM episode, he turned a simple question about snacks into a political diatribe, which Justin and Griffin awkwardly redirected.
Perhaps the most striking piece of evidence comes from Clint McElroy himself. In a 2018 The Adventure Zone Zone episode, Clint choked up while talking about his sons, saying, "The boys I had—uh, have—are my everything." Fans interpreted this slip as an unconscious admission of Travis’s death, though the moment was quickly glossed over. Some believe Clint’s grief occasionally seeps through in subtle ways during recordings.
This theory has been fueled by fans who feel the differences in Travis’s behavior, humor, and appearance are too stark to ignore. While the McElroy family has never addressed these rumors, those who support the theory continue to comb through episodes and live show recordings for more clues, convinced that the original Travis McElroy was tragically lost in 2017 and replaced by someone else attempting, often clumsily, to fill his role.

So Fitz’s power comes from inside him, that is, it doesn’t come from an outside source.
I’m thinking maybe, Fitz is like. The half-elf incarnation of Chaos. Chaos in a ‘human’ form. They wanted to see what would happen so they just like. Live inside his heart and soul, kinda vibing on a one-to-one level.

I’m re-listening to the last episode of TAZ and uhhhh.
The forest guardian said the The Firbolg told them to tell The Firbolg that his clan was in danger. Firbolg got there, and his clan was fine, but his dad was dying.
Firbolgs clan wasn’t in danger. Which means one of two things
-either the Guardian lied about the whole thing (in which case, why? What’s the motivation?)
-The Firbolg lied to the guardian about why he needed to return to his clan. And Justin has made it very clear the Firbolg can’t lie.
-Or (my personal theory) someone lied to the Guardian, pretended to be Firbolg, and gave the message. My moneys on Grey or Chaos doing this for whatever reason

I would like to imagine Argo had his accident because he’s a fish boy and hell probably isn’t great on the gills.
I really just don’t want to imagine that this happens to Argo frequently

TAZ GRAD THEORIES
Ok, I think I figured a few things out about the Big Bad (TM) in graduation! It's more a bunch of loosely-connected mini-theories, so bare with. Here we go:
The fake Hieronymous is actually working for the Demon Prince who in turn is working for Chaos.
He needs Fitzroy alive and unharmed because he needs him for something (he got angry when Fitzroy was cursed).
Maybe he needs Fitzroy's magic to release the Demon Prince?
Real Hieronymous trapped the Demon Prince in the Godscar Chasm and in turn got turned into a dog? (Ok that point is a bit iffy).
Alternatively, Chaos struck the Demom Prince down because he went against them and he was actually semi-good? Doesn't explain why Hieronymous is a dog but oh well.
Both the Demon Prince and Fitzroy are harbingers of Chaos.
The Demon Prince was Chaos's first attempt at manifesting in the world, but it went wrong? So Fitz was their second go.
Argo's secret society is working for Chaos, or some other shifty 3rd party that isn't inherently evil but is more chaotic-good/anti-heroes? They said that they're not "good" but they try to right wrongs. They do "bad" things for "good" reasons.
Argo's backstory seems pretty cut-and-dry but I have a feeling we're missing something... we shall see.
The Firbolg had something he shouldn't have had and that was enough to be banished? I have nothing to go off of atm but maybe soon...?
I'd be over the moon if even one of these turned out to be semi-correct...

do you have groundsy theories? or althea?
Hmmm... We’ve only see Groundsy, what? twice? so there’s not much to go off on what might be in his hut... but there’s definitely something. As for Althea...  I don’t trust her because I don’t trust the Heroic Oversight Guild. Festo said that they weren’t sure whether she would put her job or the students first, afterall. I think HOG is more of a “low profile, let’s not cause a panic here” sort of organization. Their job is to make sure the public isn’t aware of any flaws in the system. However, I will say that I trust Althea as an individual? If she ends up getting frustrated with HOG’s lack of attention to the situation and quits or something, I would be willing to call her an ally! I think Althea is torn between her job, which requires her to stay quiet, and her wanting to help the Thundermen. I really want her to choose the second option, but if she ends up going with the first then she’s going on my list of NPCs I refuse to trust. Not as bad as Jackal rn, but we’ll have to see.

OK OK OK here’s my theory abt Argo based on absolutely Nothing but it sure would be interesting!!!
Mariah. Is sort of... Argo’s patron. He’s working for her. And the reason Argo wants to be the sidekick for the hero Commodore (is that what it was? I just finished the episode) is so that he can get close to him and kill him. This was Mariah’s idea, and Argo is on board bc Commodore either caused—or failed to prevent—his mother’s death.

okay SO! theories from after ep 6:
there’s definitely something shady with the school, and jackle’s group is working to stop it (hence the “depends what you call a hero” comment)
this is the same shady thing that Leon noticed and told sir fitz about
does it have to do with thw whole higglemas/hieronomous thing? or the entire school? or the hero/villain system at large?
okay, I’ve seen this as a haha joke before, but it’s worth consideration: why did they build a school for future generations of workers of a prosporos economy right next to a bigass death forest that they’re forbidden from entering? it won’t help your bottom line if your future workers die on the job, so what’s up with that?
furthermore, the demons Breeze-through-the-willow (Wills) mentions — could they have anything to do with that fear tree the thunderfam went to for their hazing and the figure that (I think it was the firbolg?) saw??? what’s the connection? or could that FIGURE have been part of jackle’s organization???

The scary intense music is starting to play more frequently for fitzroy and I'm scared he's gonna end up genuinely evil like I can completely see and understand the path where fitzroy thinks he's good but has gone mad with power and that's scary

Things We Know:
Leon is missing
He alerted the Heroic Oversight Guild of something bad going on at the school.
Was last seen by the Fierbolg, entering Higglemus’ office. (Ep. 7)
Since then the only sign of him has been a brooch, found by Fitzaroy in the hospital (Ep 9)
(Buckminster commented on the brooch, saying it looked just like one he got for Leon, Ep 10)
The brooch got to the hospital by means of a bird, explicitly stated not to be a raven, but a hawk.
The boys actually know someone who has a hawk: Barb the bartender.
When entering the bar (in episode 4) Springs Eternal, Fitzaroy noticed a spectral hawk, similar to Snippers. This bird was mentioned to be Barb’s familiar.
