tess was too busy looking at the phone in her hand , coffee in the other , that she nearly bumped into someone on her way up. " hey ! " she looked up , only to see a face she knew. " mitchie ?! "

tess blinked , silently shocked by the differences she saw in him. the longer she eyed him , a thought crept into his head. " why don't i help you , " she offered with a smug sort of smile. " i may be newer to town , but i like to think i can find the cool places in this town. if one of them doesn't have an open mic night or something , i can make one happen. " she was perhaps being generous , especially considering she hadn't the faintest idea how to follow through on it. one thing was certain , however ; she was going to see shane gray on stage somehow. " there's a certain excitement having an audience , " she mused. her shoulders shrug , casual. " i'm told i'm more of performer , than anything. some people don't mean it as compliment , but i take it as one anyways. " she's aware of her image , after all. she leaned into it even. " you could say that ... " not an ounce of a care in her tone. " it's sounds like all fun and games until your choice is to live on a stinky bus or be left behind. "

◟ ⋆ ❛ there  was  something  interesting  about  the  girl  ,  he  just  couldn't  place  what  it  was  specifically  that  was  drawing  him  in  .  she  seemed  to  have  lived  quite  an  interesting  life  to  say  the  least  .  he  wondered  what  it  was  like  .  shane  shook  his  head  in  response  ,  shoulders  shrugging  slightly  .  “  nope  ,  i  can't  say  i  have  .  i  just  never  got  around  to  it  ,  i  guess  .  ”  his  dreams  were  put  on  hold  a  long  time  ago  .  mostly  due  to  him  limiting  himself  ,  to  brooding  and  doubting  himself  rather  than  applying  any  effort  .  he  shook  his  head  once  again  .  “  no  ,  not  even  open  mic  night  .  ”  maybe  he'd  do  it  one  day  ,  though  .  there  was  something  about  her  that  was  already  encouraging  him  to  want  to  branch  out  and  try  something  new  for  a  change  .  maybe  it  was  time  to  pursue  his  dreams  a  little  .  “  oh  ,  you  have  ?  that's  pretty  cool  .  ”   his  eyes  widened  in  surprise  ,  even  more  engaged  in  the  conversation  now  .  he  loved  music  ,  even  if  it  was  a  passion  he  kept  hidden  .  “  really  ?  your  mom's  famous  ?  that's  awesome  .  wonder  what  that  was  like  growing  up  .  ”

" mhm ," tess hummed in response. she hoped he wasn't about to be quizzed ; now she suddenly feared his hits from back home were now non - existent. this version of shane may have been slightly different , but he still piqued her interest nonetheless. her eyes narrow as her head cocked slightly. " you've never performed ? live ? on a stage ?? " her confusion clear in her tone. she was shocked. to her , shane was one of the biggest rock stars she knew. she wondered if this was what he was like before fame. " not even an open mic night ? karaoke ?? " at his question , she let out a playfully giggle. " i have , " she said with a quick nod. " teeny tiny ones compared to the stadiums my mom has performed , but i'm rarely scared of a crowd. " she shrugged her shoulder , nonchalant. to her , it was her norm. she was nepo - baby , after all.

◟ ⋆ ❛ “  my  older  stuff  ?  ”  he  asked  ,  laughing  .  he'd  been  doing  this  for  awhile  ,  he  was  comfortable  with  not  getting  a  bunch  of  recognition  at  that  point  in  his  life  .  while  he  dreamed  that  one  day  he  could  be  a  rockstar  ,  he  wasn't  even  sure  where  to  begin  .  shane  had  accepted  it  likely  wasn't  going  to  happen  for  him  .  people  didn't  get  big  breaks  in  towns  like  mystic  often  ,  and  he  was  convinced  there  weren't  really  any  of  those  left  for  him  of  all  people  .  he  smiled  ,  genuinely  for  once  as  she  complimented  him  .  “  thanks  ,  ”  he  said  before  clearing  his  throat  .  “  i  guess  i  just  wouldn't  even  know  where  to  start  with  performing  live  ,  ”  he  told  her  ,  shrugging  .  “  oh  ?  ”  he  asked  ,  surprised  .  “  you  .  .  .  you've  been  on  a  stage  ?  ”  he  questioned  ,  intrigued  .  he  still  didn't  know  her  ,  but  he  found  her  pretty  intriguing  .  this  was  something  shane  hadn't  ever  experienced  before  .

tess is surprised by his reaction. is he not famous here ??? shane gray ??? without screaming , adoring fans ??? interesting ... " you could say i'm more familiar with your ... " she paused. her head cocked to one side. " older stuff. " she made a mental note to look him up later ; study his latest music. she was more curious than ever now. this place was funny , to say the least. she didn't know what was happening , or why , but she was going to use it to her advantage best she could. " i'm shocked you don't perform live , " she admitted. " you're so talented. it seems a waste to not share it live with your fans. personally , i love performing. " a smile pulled on the corner of her lips. " what can i say ? i'm a woman with taste. i know talent when i see it ... or hear it , i guess. "

◟ ⋆ ❛ his  music  wasn't  something  shane  really  spoke  about  .  it  was  mostly  something  he  kept  to  himself  .  sure  ,  he  released  music  ,  but  he  did  it  quietly  .  he  never  promoted  his  own  music  .  it  was  something  he  saw  as  an  escape  ,  a  way  to  just  release  the  emotions  he  never  really  talked  about  .  “  you've  heard  my  music  ?  ”  he  asked  ,  surprised  .  nobody  else  had  ever  approached  him  about  it  before  .  he  wondered  how  many  people  had  really  heard  it  .  “  i  mean  .  .  .  i  don't  really  perform  them  for  the  general  public  ,  ”  he  said  ,  shaking  his  head  .  “  i  just  .  .  .  i  put  them  out  there  on  the  internet  ,  but  i  don't  make  a  big  deal  of  it  .  ”  he  shook  his  head  ,  blinking  .  “  sorry  .  .  .  i  just  .  .  .  i  don't  think  i've  ever  met  anyone  who's  ever  heard  my  music  .  ”

tess can't help herself as a giggle escaped lips , clearly amused by his confusion. if he didn't remember her , this may be a fun little game for her then. it meant he didn't know of her past at camp rock , her previous shallowness. she could reinvent herself in the perfect image for him. " you're a musician , are you ? " she asked with a raised brow. she couldn't imagine a world where shane gray wasn't some mega rock star. she wondered to what degree that image existed here in mystic. was there still connect three ? what of his brothers ? " write your own songs , perform them ... ya know , all that amazing stuff. "

◟ ⋆ ❛ he  was  pretty  certain  he  didn't  know  her  .  shane  would  most  likely  remember  a  face  like  hers  .  his  brows  furrowed  in  confusion  ,  head  shaking  slightly  .  try  as  he  might  ,  he  couldn't  place  her  .  shane  stares  at  her  in  confusion  ,  head  canting  slightly  .  he  was  lost  .  his  work  ?  as  in  ,  the  music  he  didn't  talk  about  ?  he  shook  his  head  ,  arms  folding  across  his  chest  as  he  studied  her  .  she  was  pretty  .  that  was  one  of  the  first  things  he'd  noticed  .  “  my  work  ?  ”  he  asked  ,  arching  a  brow  .  “  what  do  you  know  about  my  work  ?  ”

" have we met ? " she repeated the question with a tilt of her head. a sly smile remained on her features as she studied the other. he sure looked clueless as he stared back. was she really that easy to forget ?? she suspected foul play ; similar to the kind that made her wind up here in the first place. " maybe you don't know me , " she hummed as she took a step closer. " but you could say i know you. i'm a big fan of your work. "

◟ ⋆ ❛ shane  stared  at  the  girl  who'd  approached  him  ,  not  an  inkling  of  recognition  present  . a hand ran through his hair as he attempted once more to place her somewhere in his memories with no success .  this  was  pretty  typical  for  a  guy  like  him  .  he  didn't  pay  attention  to  people  outside  of  himself  and  his  family  .  “  sorry  ,  but  uh  .  .  .  have  we  met  ?  ”  he  questioned  .

" of course , the artist also has to do with it , " tess reluctantly agreed. she examined her nails for a moment , acting almost disinterested. she knew it wasn't a dig at her ; but she refused to see herself as the problem with her latest attempts at music. " if they aren't a decent fit , or can't perform period ... it's a disaster waiting to happen , " she hummed. " i don't know 'bout that. plenty of good songs have meaningless lyrics. sometimes it's just meant to be a fun time. "

"i don't disagree, but i think the artist can have a lot to do with that as well." loretta replied. she'd seen good music go bad because the artist wasn't the right fit. she'd been the front woman for her band, but when it came time to trying to write music at first she'd just been pulling pieces from everything else and that was when she had just started off. "i think it's a good mix of everything. but it's got to deal with the meaning of the song as well."

her head cocked to one side as she examined the other ; not a hint of recognition. she moved a hand to her hip as a cheshire smile grew on her rouge painted lips. " maybe not , " she lied. " but you look like a ... mitchie maybe ... " as if she knew another mitchie , in this lifetime or the last.

the moment that she bumped into the other, mitchie was quick to look up, prepared to apologize. however, when the other called out her name, mitchie quickly gave her a look of confusion. ❝ i'm sorry -- have we met? ❞
