pirate au u say 👀

mhm! pirate au indeed! it’s an old collaborative project that never moved anywhere. but i absolutely love it anyway and like to think about it! (and i did get permission to work on it alone if I still wanted to revive it, so maybe one dayyy? 👀) 

lemme tell you about the premise :3 …as per usual, had to torture the birb. i’m sure this is now expected of me. so we start with injured grian in pain and distress (yay!) 

the avians in this au can shapeshift between a full bird form and a more humanoid winged form (the usual avian form). grian is a parrot, and as such is a coveted part of a pirate crew. a pirate captain with a parrot avian? now that’s something! 

unfortunately for grian though, he ends up on a pirate ship that treats him really horribly and gets him hurt all the time. and you know pirates. they're greedy. they don't give up their possessions if they see a sliver of value in them. so once owned, grian is no longer allowed to leave. he gets a bird cage instead of a bed, and isn’t allowed a whole lot of freedoms, kept mostly as a trophy, something to possess and boast about and take the crew’s frustrations out on. he’s basically a mistreated prisoner; they don’t care about him beyond what he symbolises.

scar is a pirate captain of a different pirate ship. mumbo, impulse, pearl, jimmy, and joel are all part of the crew. (boatem + bad boys :3c)

the story really starts when scar’s crew pulls up some rubble from the sea, and finds a bleeding, half-drowned, barely-alive parrot bird tangled in a fishing net. they decide to try to save him, poor little thing… but much to their surprise, once awake, the bird ends up shifting into an avian, and hey, look, it’s actually a person! 

as you can expect, grian absolutely definitely panics when he finds himself on another pirate ship. (he thought it’s over.) (he thinks he’ll never be free wahhhhh he starts off so scared 🥺all the pirates are the same in his head, he hasn’t had a single good experience 🥺)

in case it isn't painfully clear, this is a found family au 🥰 strewn throughout with hurt/comfort, severe trauma, and some healing! just the way we like here, hehe

Behold, more old men! Not the most confident with getting Kalims face the way I want it to look (bear with me, most of these sketches are from earlier this year) but he exists! It's very important to me that he lives a long life in at least one timeline

Small notes on their faces/wrinkles: -Jamil has more wrinkles around his forehead/eyebrows with a sharper cheek bone. -Kalim's eyebrows have a feathered effect where it tapers outwards, and he's got a more prominent crows feet.

like so! I'm hoping to flesh them out more as I study older features, but these are the main points for now

-He puts up a stoic face so that others won't bother him, but the kids of Silk City regard Jamil as an eccentric figure with lots of fun stories to tell about his travels. He's well loved.

-Kalim uses a cane to walk and is the frailer of the two. He's a little more subdued with age and his memory is poor, but he's always able to recount his memories of NRC, friends and Jamil with a bright smile and waay too many side plots. Jamil still holds himself with a strong gait and would rather keel over than be assisted, but he's got the worse eyesight (side effect of his signature spell) and experiences minor body aches in his arm/hands. -I think this kind of just goes on par with the regular scarabia/jamikali antics but they're casual with their skin ship, neither really notices unless it's called out. You'll often find one supporting the other with a hand by the waist while they walk.

-Though he's chided for it, Kalim makes it a routine to look after Jamil's hands every morning (it's important!) On the opposite, Jamil is the one that encourages Kalim to walk with him, even if it's only for short periods. In their later years, carpet is often accompanying them to help out when it can.

-When his strength begins to decline and he's bedridden, Kalim resorts to using his water magic to communicate. Jamil doesn't like it, but it's more of what it entails rather than the gesture. He talks more to fill the silence, sometimes responding back with his own magic. -Kalim's the first to go. Depending on how his life panned out, Jamil either stays in Silk City for the remainder of his days (if he came back to retire) or leaves to go on one final adventure, taking carpet with him (if he stayed with Kalim.)

-The detail of him wearing Kalim's feather accessory was inspired from a fic collection ! I'm happy it was noticed

OK. SO.

all of my ideas about this stewed up before the GGG devs (yugo specifically) confirmed that the gods age xyz years that they've been in the rift if they leave, so I know canonically they would all crumble to dust and/or be old as balls. BUT. WHAT IF THEY DIDNT AND THEY JUST POPPED OUT AS THE SAME AGE THEY WENT IN

strong rift winds + isle surrounded by ocean = all of the gods miraculously survive being blown out of the heavens by way of falling into the ocean! so it's up to godpoke and king to find them all and get them back to the rift before thespius..................... well you know ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

the human-gods aren't doing too well... so many centuries of living as extradimensional cosmic dust only to turn back into a lil meat bag will do that to ya. they're scattered around the grove in various states of Bad, most of them sopping wet + looking/feeling like they've been hit by a truck and are too incapacitated to do anything right now. they feel helpless. the protagonists and people of the grove need to help their human-gods get better and FAST, because they all need to get back to the rift together if there's any hope of closing it.

thespius has no idea if the other gods survived the Fall or not. he's just doing the only thing he can to keep The Whole World alive, with just the glimpse of hope that he might be reunited with his love and his family one day. he can't give up. not now. not after everything.

inspekta is fully capable of ending thespius himself, but he's too afraid to touch another god. spending his entire godhood having capo and the bizzyboys do his dirty work for him has made him incredibly bad at direct confrontation. especially with someone he genuinely used to care about, someone who accepted him with open arms.

and so, he has capo and the bizzyboys do his dirty work. out of fear of retribution, they lock down the grove and trash the other gods' symbolism and any likenesses.

but their hearts aren't in it.

through hijinks and rediscovering their humanity alongside their own reasons for entering godhood, the human-gods, helped by the protagonists, regain their strength and form a coalition with the people of the grove-- and the bizzyboys! cue the march to the spire!

but strawberrij, you ask, why did none of the other humans offer to jump into the rift, ascend to godhood, and close that mofo themselves way earlier?

well, the people of the grove understand the unbelievably heavy burden of godhood. they have loved ones that they want to live their lives with, spend their final moments with, and that alone is too much for anyone to lose. And, they recognize the gods as a family; as much as they want to stay with their own families, they want to reunite the gods'!

they love their gods. truly. they can't think of anyone else more qualified for the position. (except inspekta cough cough)

it takes gods with experience to knock inspekta down. only they can understand his fear and reach into his heart.

at the spire, things aren't looking too hot. the roaring winds and sheer cosmo-electrical energy of the rift have done their damage on thespius; poor guy's barely holding on (literally and metaphorically), and each passing day around inspekta, hearing how the other gods are DEAD GONE EXPIRED wear him down more and more. his love, his core, is the only thing keeping him together.

something's wrong. inspekta's distracted by something in the distance, thespius notices in his state of near-unconsciousness.

people climbing the spire.

a crowd?

a grove.

something familiar at the front. someone. someones. his family.

before he can react, inspekta dives down at them, ready to rain fists.

godpoke, capo, and the bizzyboys intercept, blocking and distracting inspekta while the people of the grove rush to get the human-gods to the rift.

some of thespius' strength returns, seeing the people and feeling their love radiating out. he makes out one figure at the front of the crowd-- CLICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

his grip on the rift tightens!!!!

with the help of the grove, against the thrashing winds, the human-gods are lifted into the rift.

THE GODS ARE BACK IN!!!!!!!

with king's help, click clack grabs onto the rift, one arm wrapped tightly against the small unconscious thespius.

together, the five gods (click clack, king, mitternacht, bauhauzzo, huzzle mug) hold onto the edges of the rift, trying to pull, but to no avail.

the gods call out to the skirmish between inspekta and the godpoke. finally, mitternacht's words reach him--

"Hector, is this how you want to be remembered?"

the gods close the rift. king has joined them. hector is mortal again.

all is well...?

holding onto the rift for so long was unimaginably brutal.

thespius falls into a deep slumber in his domain, sloooowly recovering all of the divine energy that the rift sapped out of him. click clack stays with him, quietly worrying at his side. his back is always turned to the entrance when godpoke visits. they do what they can to manage both sides of hobbyhoo alone, and will reappear in their tower if he senses a visitor in need enter his own domain, but makes an effort to rush them out so that he can return to thespius.

when he wakes, thespius is changed. he lost much of his hearing from the shrieking winds blowing past him, and had a hand shatter from the sheer energy of the rift. the damage is psychological-- he can't will these things to change back to how they were, no matter how hard he tries.

but he adapts. he is already skilled in sign language, and now uses a mix of sign and spoken word to communicate. he still loves writing scripts with click, and making music. he can feel the vibration in his ukulele.

he's... quieter, now, though. those who visit his domain with often find him lost in thought, more shrouded by his clouds (his head is always in the clouds..... chronic dissociator + daydreamer, now x100000. it kept him alive in the rift... what is it doing to him now?)

the other gods do what they can to give him company, but there is so much to rebuild. these things take time. healing takes time.

likewise to her canon self , ds harumi is a silly little kid from ninjago city . she lives with her parents and is a huge fan of the ninja and their feats . she collects merch , especially toys and action figures based off of them . she’s justg…. So silly

for ds (and my headcanon) , she’s about one or two years older than lloyd :)

now here’s the fun part:

without lloyd releasing the serpentine , the great devourer is not revived in season one . ergo, harumi’s parents never die during its attack . harumi instead meets lloyd during one of his patrols in ninjago city , while shes hanging out with her friends . her friends, also fans of the ninja, immediately circle around lloyd, who is happy to answer questions and chat with them (he wants a break from work, anyway) , and harumi just … sits at their picnic blanket.

when questioned by her friends about her love for the ninja?

essentially…… harumi and lloyd don’t get along very well at first . she thinks he’s a loser. but her favorite is nya, so the first time she manages to meet nya, she reacts excitably and happily, while lloyd simmers with rage behind her .

somewhere along the line , harumi becomes regularly affiliated with the ninja . she’s smart and capable , and she’s able to come up with plans and solve puzzles that they weren’t able to do without her . the first time she helped, they were so impressed by her ability that they sought her out the second time, and then the third … and it became a regular occurrence.

next thing you know, she’s hanging out at the monastery often, playing with swords and helping zane cook and annoying lloyd with her presence . and when she learns about nya’s destiny to fight wu / the overlord , she becomes determined to help in any way she can. she’s not an engineer like jay, and she’s not an elemental master like the others, but she is an intelligent kid who is now pretty knowledgeable in prophecies and elements . thus , she pulls garmadon aside one day and asks to learn magic.

he’s very happy to help her.

enter mage harumi!! she trains in magic and combat while the others work on their elements , intending to be another person at nya’s side when she has to face her destiny : )

blah blah, that’s really all i have for her . she’s still one of the characters that’s more under construction than not , but i care her very much and she’s super super dear to me <3

like i did with lloyd, here’s some canon stuff about her!

- her magic is pinkish-red and she gets very upset when kai jokingly compares it to lloyd’s fire . it’s also emotionally charged, so it sometimes gets unstable when she’s angry….

- the ninja all call her rumi as a nickname!

- she doesn’t like hugs from people other than her parents very much, but she will let the ninja hug her .

- she is a HUGE fan of the movies that jay acts in (as most kids her age are) and she may or may not have talked his ear off when they first met . it made him a little reluctant to connect with her at first, but being the only two members who weren’t allowed to train (at first) made them interact more.

(and harumi learning magic and getting to train with the ninja totally didn’t upset him… totally.)

- when she needs to move quickly, she ties her cloak around her waist

- morro is the one who ties her hair into space buns . zane does it in a braid sometimes !

- like I said, nya was her favorite ninja , but she likes them all equally when she joins, because they’re part of her family now

- she’s still attending school during her training . the ninja help her with her homework

- she WILL leave during training hours randomly if she wants to see her parents. she dgaf . sometimes they’ll come up to the monastery to visit her though <3

- she cuts her hair on her own . that’s why her bangs are kind of fucked up . it’s ok tho she’s a cutie pie

- she doesn’t actually like being called a ninja . she’s a mage and she likes to be recognized as such . being called “the violet ninja” did nearly urge her to go back on this claim though …

- the pink tint in her eye is from a spell mishap

fsr i think Goldpaw's powers are truth seeing kind of thing or so. like... his eyes are glowing. he's been told that his powers are carry more weight than the others and maybe he is meant for something if they're given to him? which means that MAYBE in the future he will be the only one who will be able to distinguish the truth from the lie when his clanmates are, perhaps, fooled by something and have shared opinions about something and he has the opposite clarity in his mind. and he can prevent something dangerous from happening

So now that the Mutant Mayhem game has been out for a lil bit There's a scene in that game where Mikey gets drugged (via spiked pizza ofc) and goes feral, running to a place he went when he was a hatchling and was sad/angry As a fellow Rise!Mikey lover I would love to know which of the (all Rise!) Baja Blast, Sunrise Duo, or PB&J would be the most interesting with a "trying to calm down feral mikey" From the "incident" in the fairy au I feel like letting the boy be a bit unhinged for plot purposes is of interest to us both haha

the one I'd be most intrigued about would be Donnie though! I actually kinda wrote a situation similar to this into one of my fics-- mikey wasn't "feral", but he was in the middle of a really bad breakdown, and Donnie had to figure out how to keep him calm. I just think that between Donnie's sensory issues + trouble with reading social cues + occasional tendency to cross boundaries, putting him in a highly volatile emotional situation with one his brothers is always interesting to explore :D and I can write from experience lmao i'm very bad in those kinds of situations myself

do you have any intersex cad headcanons?

not anything super in-depth, its sort of one of those headcanons i blanket apply to all my depictions of a character (like . cad autism headcanon and various other nd and disabled thangs) but dont feel the need to mention because the character wouldnt. i do think tho both in canon setting and modern setting (like dragonfly year) that his parents very much raise all the kids genderless (and outside eating mud etc) so there was no pressure to ever conform to one thing or correct anything ever, so thats good. he's never been made to feel abnormal about it growing up and any noticeable difference is just like, gift from the wildmother (because of headcanon that the wildmother also moving between genders often, her form shifting to be various kinds of nature and mothers to different people, so the clays are very aware of that spectrum of both gender and sex in humanoid creatures and every other living thing. like its extremely natural. they also have a lot of experience preparing different bodies for burial, some clothed some not. theyre also very open about nudity. everyones used to the v mundane weirdness of bodies and doesnt presume anything either)
