in the pilot's deleted scene, dean glances at his watch noticing that it has stopped moving (which indicates that demons are nearby) and he immediately realizes something is wrong and turns back to sam's apartment. but since the scene didn't make the final cut, jensen's explanation for why dean returned is because of brotherly intuition which makes it a million times better imo.

Following up on this excellent post from @nightgoodomens, it really is astonishing to see so many people in the GO fandom misunderstanding the characters/personalities of Aziraphale and Crowley. While I by no means am against people having head canons or differing interpretations, it has become frustrating to see people pushing their ideas about Aziraphale and Crowley onto others and declaring them to be official canon, leaving no room for any kind of discussion.
One of the things spoken about in the above linked post is the denigrating of Crowley, which seems to be a near constant in the fandom at this point, particularly in relation to the "apology dance" scene. (Which, to be fair, is chock full of soft!Dom Aziraphale vibes--thank you, Michael Sheen.) What seems to keep getting missed is that the entire apology dance routine is something that Aziraphale and Crowley do to each other. There is just as much of a possibility that Crowley sat there with a similarly smug look on his face and let out a guttural, snakey "Very nice" when Aziraphale did the dance in the years he listed off, because they play this game together.
Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship is one of equals, and I think this is also something people seem to not understand well. It seems as though a lot of fans who project themselves onto Crowley want to be taken care of, and so they want to believe the same of Crowley, and that the reason he wants to be taken care of is because he is broken. But someone doesn't have to be broken to want someone to take care of them. Sometimes the people who are a shambles on the outside can be dominant, just as sometimes the most buttoned up, put together people can also be submissive. And sometimes the people who look in control on the outside can feel not at all that way on the inside.
But this nuanced thinking seems to increasingly be difficult for many GO fans, particularly those who spend a great deal of time on social media, a place where people are either blindly praised or denigrated and torn down, and where such behavior greatly reinforces that binary, black-and-white mindset. We so badly want the world to be clear-cut--good vs. evil, heroes vs. bad guys--but very often that just isn't how things work. And it is exactly what Terry and Neil were trying to speak against in the GO book (and subsequently, the TV show).
The other thing that I think influences a lot of fans' perceptions about Aziraphale and Crowley is their chosen corporations (i.e., Crowley being thin and Aziraphale being plump). There is an automatic assumption that thin somehow equals more vulnerable, and for all of the emphasis that is placed on Aziraphale and Crowley being genderfluid/nonbinary/not subscribing to traditional gender roles, it's Crowley who seems to be viewed as more androgynous/femme, and is therefore looked at as inherently vulnerable. Meanwhile Aziraphale is thicker and viewed as more masculine, and therefore he is somehow inherently not vulnerable. Yet if the body types were reversed, it seems highly likely that fans' attitudes toward them would be much different.
(It also saddens me that this seems to mirror the fans' treatment of Michael and David, where Michael serves as a target for the fans' venom and is seen as less desirable/more threatening because he presents more traditionally masculine, while David is not targeted or attacked and is seen as more desirable/less threatening because he presents much more androgynously. Consequently, many fans find it easy not to sympathize with Michael, and when you can readily disregard someone's feelings, it becomes easier to see them as "less." In the case of Aziraphale and Michael, it leaves no room for either one to be vulnerable and is unfair to both of them.)
What I have always taken away from Good Omens--and from Michael and David's portrayal of Aziraphale and Crowley and how deeply they both understand these characters--is that Crowley doesn't need to be a perfect angel for Aziraphale to like him. He just needs to be a little bit of a good person. And Aziraphale doesn't need to be a perfect demon for Crowley to like him--he just needs to be enough of a bastard to be worth knowing. Neither one has to fully subscribe to the other's outlook or point of view to listen to what they have to say.
Aziraphale and Crowley meet in the middle. In the place that becomes their side, and where they take care of each other, fight with each other, and love each other. And that's more than most of us could ever ask or hope for...

rereading the spring hunt chapter and having feels about Ouyang's meeting with the Great Khan
Tumblr media
Firstly, I find it quite poignant that it's the second time we see Ouyang have a panic attack and both times this happens when he has a face-to-face meeting with people directly responsible for murdering his family: Chaghan and the Great Khan. Like huh, the embodied trauma of it all.
Secondly, there's the fact that the Khan can see Ouyang's ghosts and asks if he's an Ouyang from Henan. He knows. And he still chooses to praise Ouyang's skills, rewards him and tells him to serve his masters "loyally and well"???? Like, I know that one reason is that he probably kind of had to say this because of manners/protocol etc. But I also think it underlines how, for the Great Khan, Ouyang is someone who can make amends for his father's betrayal in a positive way. He can be precisely what his father was not: a loyal, talented general who will bring success for the empire, and it is his LOYALTY that would allow him to restore the honour for himself & his family. And of course we know that this is could never happen because Ouyang really lacks some crucial info here and also he was never going to give up on getting his revenge especially on Chaghan (and this is not even getting into the whole ''former slave asked to uphold the regime who enslaved him'' dynamic). But just. losing my mind over the fact that Ouyang had the option to regain his honour by staying loyal to Esen - by doing precisely the one thing he wanted, the only thing that made him happy. And he still did the exact opposite.
And thirdly, that line of foreshadowing....... yeah.

I know I go on about hospital gowns quite a bit, but there's something about not even changing clothes for some sort of outpatient-y medical procedure that. eurghhggghhh it just gets me. Jeans and T-shirt while they inject some sort of drug or hook up some other treatment, just sort of sitting in the chair awkwardly. Haven't even been made to do anything super uncomfortable but feel vulnerable nonetheless, the sterile surroundings and scrubs of everyone else at odds with the thin shirt etc.
Especially like this for dental surgery in particular because that's where my mind has been lately sjdjdjdjs. Get up and leave all fuzzy and confused in the same clothes you came in with. Shouldn't be an issue but it feels weird and unfamiliar

david oakes' takes and anecdotes on juan are always so delicious to read because he talks about him enthusiastically and understands the character so well and he makes sure to try to make people understand what led juan to behave the way he did without diminishing any of his wrongdoings. i can't lie i always giggle every time a borgia fan gets bothered under my gifsets that he isn't the b&w "villain" some of them wished him to be lmao

Listen y’all I just woke up and had the most cracked yet self explanatory headcanon
Goto Ryuji and Lim Tae-Gyu are relatives, and even so are either brothers or cousins separated at early childhood.
That’s literally coming from me mistaking them first time I read SL BUT BEAR WITH ME OKAY I HAVE GOLDFISH MEMORY SPAWN
ANYWAY
Consider them both being born in Japan, and after boys were born their parents broke their marriage and while Ryuji stayed with his father in Japan, mother took Fuuka (aka future Tae-Gyu) with her to South Korea for her new future husband. Since she married into new family, she changed her name as well as Fuuka’s hence Lim Tae-Gyu appeared.
Years roll by and it’s first proper meeting with Japanese S ranks, Tae-Gyu knows what they all are saying without translator because for some reason his mother knew Japanese perfectly for some reason and was hell bent on him also knowing it as second language also for some reason, but he never bothered to inform anyone.
And then Goto Ryuji himself enters the scene, and oh suddenly it becomes too quiet as everyone just stare at two men with uncanny levels of resemblance.
Tae-Gyu is just confused why everyone is suddenly so quiet and staring, and he’s especially unnerved by Ryuji’s really intense stare that has usual levels of threat in it but also searching, almost painfully hopeful.
Apparently Ryuji knows he had a brother because he remembers him vaguely and his father always told about him. Tae-Gyu has no proper memories of his early childhood and his mother never really spoke about her previous marriage either, only small specks of Japanese here and there which confused Tae-Gyu.
All Ryuji says after a really long uncomfortable silence is
‘Fuuka’
and Tae-Gyu instantly tenses, starting to glare at Ryuji in return because only his mother ever called him this name at home and it was so precious and personal it IS offending to hear it from a complete stranger even if it’s said with equal undertones of shared understanding and intimacy.
‘Fuuka, did mother allow you to keep Kiryu?’
And oh, that one was a low blow for Tae-Guy because Kiryu - a really old, clearly clumsily child-made plush dragon toy was one of the few things he had from his early childhood and was really attached to, for some reason. He deduced it was probably a gift from someone really important to him back then, because no matter what mother always made sure it’s taken care of and he always had a childish sentiment for it.
‘… How— How do you know about this—‘
And oh, he didn’t even notice slipping to perfect, not accented Japanese. Honestly? He doesn’t care at the moment, because fearsome Goto Ryuji knowing your other name and about your childhood plushie is disturbing.
Lim Tae-Gyu né Goto Fuuka, is confused and disturbed and angry but also terrified and somewhat hopeful. He doesn’t know why man before him knows such important, personal details no one knows, and it scares him.
Goto Ryuji is conflicted, both happy and disturbed. Here, before him, stands his long lost brother whom his mother took away to different county and wasn’t heard of ever since. There’s such a giant void between them, and Ryuji doesn’t know how to cross it and mend relationship with his brother without appearing like a creep with absolutely unbelievable story.
Everyone on side silently watch two stone faced men, who look almost like a mirror reflection, have a silent inner mental breakdown.

Through a chain of events I discovered Joel’s Super Ghostbusters album the other day at work and I need to talk about it.
My initial impression was that it’s so fucking bad. One of the worst things I’ve ever heard. However, it also made me laugh so hard I legitimately had tears in my eyes, and the suddenly fast and loud part of Gheestobesto (the “nutbusters” one) is what tipped it over the edge, so idk what that says about me. (The MIDI trumpet pulls a lot of the weight for me in the “heehee funny noises” category, because I am a simple woman who will laugh without fail at an unexpected Fart With Reverb. The “lyrics” are already ridiculous, and then you’ve also got this thing honking in the back.)
Upon re-listen, I have looped around into the opinion that Super Ghostbusters is a legitimate piece of art. I’m not sure what category of art, but it transcends the bounds of just music. There’s no more than a second’s rest to process what you’ve just heard between tracks. It is 21 straight minutes of auditory assault. It simultaneously has very little effort and excessive effort put into it, even excluding the actual metal cover (which is clearly high-effort). There are a few places where he laughs before finishing the track and chose to leave it in, or where it was clearly bad improv, but there’s also a good amount of editing done to it, and shit like the sudden text-to-speech milk definition, so there was deliberate choice about what to leave shitty. I do not know how he managed to pull that balance off, and I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anything comparable.
And this is a man who knows how to make legitimate music, which I think is what was making me lose my mind the most. Like he absolutely knows how to use these tools, and this is how he’s choosing to use them. It’s incredible. I don’t really know how to put it into words. The album is an experience unlike any other, 10/10, highly recommended.
That fucking MIDI plays in my head when idle and seeing milk in my fridge now triggers Ghostbatista to start playing.
I personally really like the segment from 09:35 (track 12 - Ghostbatista) through 13:39 (track 15 - Gheistbest). I think it encompasses most of my points pretty well.
But anyways I have destroyed my youtube suggestions and the algorithm doesn’t know what to do for me anymore.
