the raven boys— blue and adam first meeting and adoring each other so completely. the chemistry undeniable and their instant loyalty unyielding.

vs blue lily, lily blue— blue and adam arguing anytime they’re alone but trying so hard not to. trying to maintain their friendship and that unadulterated love they have for each other. even if it’s not true love, even if they’re not the one meant for the other. even if that person is rapidly starting to become someone else important to them.

On my annual summer reread of the Raven Cycle and Maggie Stiefvater needs to chill with these fucking lines.

I'm reading The Raven Cycle for the first time which feels overdue because it's absolutely in my wheelhouse of interests.

Thoroughly recommend.

I want a whole series about the women of 300 Fox Way.

My favourite children are Blue and Ronan but I love them all.

Blue has Not Like Other Girls syndrome but that's also the point she grows out of. One of my favourite scenes is between her and Maura where Maura lovingly calls her out on her hypocrisy— all her friends being white private school boys— and how this leads to her becoming honest with herself about who she wants to be and what she wants.

The Dream Thieves was a love letter to Ronan. It was his coming of age. Ronan eventually rejecting the parts of himself that were also Kavinsky, calmly accepting his attraction to boys and actively deciding he didn't hate who Ronan Lynch was. Ending on him finally disclosing his second secret to the reader. Flawless.

I also love that while Adam has a crush on all his living friends, he chose the bits of himself that want to burn the systems (he's trying to be part of) down. Because that's what Ronan is to him. A little godly, a lot anarchy. Blue represents what he's trying to escape, Gansey represents what he's striving towards, while Ronan represents his need for something stronger, something truer than pride and ambition.

Anyway, not a one in their adorable edgy-asshole friend group is straight or neurotypical. Not even Gansey. Maybe especially not Gansey. 🤔😂
