thinking about the life series winners as great, cosmic beings who attach their identity to a celestial object close to home in order to stay where it's familiar. grian, as the first winner, chose what seemed most fitting. his light bathes the solar system in warmth and electromagnetic radiation. Scott followed his example and chose similarly, his whirling constellations visible in the night when grian is gone. Pearl chose based on her name, and Tilly has been immortalized in the moon. Martyn, ever the attack dog, chose the bringer of war, the Red Planet. Cleo is uninterested in being even that far from the world she loves, so she bound herself to the hearts of those who walk the earth. scar, like Cleo, loved his earth too much to leave, so he chose the earth itself to be his anchor.
and then there's Joel. They told him that he could choose any object in the universe to anchor himself to, but he doesn't care for space. and, well, he does like his car.

Random Mammon x Solomon Headcanons
Because I am insane about them <3 I wrote most of these down on a piece of paper at work the other day
✧✧✧
Mammon who won’t ask Solomon for help with debts because he doesn’t want Solomon to think that’s all he wants from him
Mammon who notices the witches call for him less and/or are nicer to him after he gets together with Solomon (and if it happened after the night he came home in near tears and exhausted? Well that’s just a coincidence.)
Solomon who won’t give Mammon money to pay back his debts, but instead gives him opportunities to earn it
-Helping out with experiments
-Ritual calculations
-Accompanying him to the human world/running errands
-Playing cards together (their favorite)
They get together at least every other week to play cards together, even before they started dating. It’s usually money on the line, though sometimes it’s favors or help with studies
The first round will almost always end in a tie, and their games can go for hours because they both have so much fun and find the challenge enjoyable
When Mammon is losing, he likes to pull a “winner takes all” for the final round. This only works half the time
They both know each other so well that they will change the rules, or alter the deck to make it more interesting. Like removing a certain shape or adding another deck entirely
The first time Solomon and Mammon teamed up together during a game night, everyone was shocked at how well they worked together
Solomon proposed during Demonopoly once and Mammon almost passed out. His face was red the rest of the round- But they won by a landslide together
Date nights for them are usually dinner together
-Mammon has a fund set aside specifically for date nights so they can eat out
-Some nights when they’re both either busy or exhausted, they’ll heat up cup noodles and stay in together to watch a movie. Mammon says he’s the only one allowed to cook the noodles on these nights because he makes them best. No other reason...
-Usually these date nights are held at the HOL because Mammon has that projector in his room. They take turns picking movies
-And if Solomon chooses a horror movie so Mammon clings to him? Who’s to blame him?
-Sometimes when they want a little more privacy, they’ll order take out or pack a picnic and Mammon will drive up to a cliff side so they can look at the stars together
-They sit on the hood of the car to eat. Mammon has taken to keeping a spare blanket in his trunk so they can lay down and star gaze together
-Mammon will point at a random spot in the sky and ask if there’s a constellation there. Solomon will nudge his hand in the correct direction if needed, and explain the constellation. Mammon finds it endearing to listen to
Solomon is usually the big spoon when they cuddle or sleep together
If Mammon falls asleep around Solomon while he’s busy, Solomon will use his cape/cloak as a blanket to cover Mammon
When Mammon is the big spoon, he will partially shift into his demon form to wrap his wings around Solomon
They each have a photo of each other in their wallets
-Polaroid cameras blew up in the Devildom shortly after they made a comeback in the human world. Asmo joined in on this trend, and took photos of his brothers and friends
-He gave Solomon and Mammon photos of each other respectively
-Solomon’s is one of him laughing after an experiment went wrong
-Mammon’s is one of him crouching and doting on a crow
If Mammon is really busy with working shifts, Solomon will visit him at work
-Solomon will pretend to be a stranger sometimes and flirts with Mammon (as if they aren’t already together)
-This makes Mammon flustered, but after the first few times, he starts to flirt back to see how far he can push it
-Solomon almost always stays until the end of Mammon’s shift to walk him home, even if it’s hours long
Solomon has also tagged along to Mammon’s modeling gigs. These are the shoots where Mammon seems to be the most confident once the photos are published
Solomon always buys a copy if Mammon is featured, keeping them tucked in a corner of his bookshelf
Mammon has snuck over to Purgatory Hall when he misses Solomon. He’ll fly up to Solomon’s balcony and knock until he’s let in. He tried to pick the lock the first time he did this, and was met with a very powerful ward. So he doesn’t do that anymore
Little D. No 2 once reffered to Solomon as “Step Papa” and Mammon lost his shit
Solomon, red-faced and laughing, had to hold Mammon back
✧✧✧
Okay this became longer than I intended. HAHA SORRY THEY'RE JUST ALWAYS ON MY MIND. Feel free to yap about them to me. Maybe then I'll finally finish my solomams songfic.

Gilded Constellations | wolfstar x reader

Series Masterlist | Previous episode
Pairing: Wolfstar x Reader Word Count: 7.1 K Warnings: none Prompt: The school is buzzing with excitement as the race aproaches, magical things are bound to happen. Some more magical than others, and some of a less magical nature, but more than magical regardless. This IS a wolfstar x reader fic, but it's incredibly slow burn. They won't start all dating each other until we're very deep into the story, but I promise the long wait will be worth it.
Chapter 11: Do ya?
October 3rd, 1976 - Sunday
The day of the race finally came, the school was buzzing with excitement. The quidditch captains had gotten some of the teachers to help after asking for the right permissions, and even Professor McGonagall was going to be among the judges since she had been an amazing player before her injury in her last year. Everyone in the school knew how good she’d been, a legend, in fact. So it only made the race even more exciting.
Only quidditch players from the different teams had been allowed to participate in the end, which meant only the fastest flyers of the school were going to be in the race. James had even gotten around to buying a small trophy that he’d be handing over to the winner. Sirius had already boastfully told him where he’d be placing it once he got it.
You woke up earlier than usual, the anticipation eating you up. James had borrowed an old quidditch uniform for you to wear, and Beth had helped you alter it, switching James’ last name for your own, and adding some patches she had you order on the magazine. “Good look charms,” she’d told you. Marlene was also getting ready beside you, she chose to wear only a very thick wool sweater, with a round pin Mary had given her.
From the Gryffindors, only 4 people had signed up, Marlene, Sirius, Gale Thomas and you, all of them incredibly good flyers. You’d asked Davis why she hadn’t entered the race, she mentioned something about preparing for the O.W.L.s early. And since you’d just been through that last year, you completely understood where she was coming from.
From the other teams, you’d heard some 7th years had also decided to join, Holden, Minho and Alexander Wood were among them. Once you were outside of the castle you saw crowds of students walking outside, they’d even made merchandise of you and the other competitors. The small girl that’d asked you to teach her how to do a backflip was wearing a pin with your face on it that said something along the lines of “(Y/N) is the fastest flyer of the school,” and she waved at you, giving you a thumbs up while you walked towards the finish line, the little girl you’d helped in your first day, the one who’s ring you had rescued, stood beside her, with a small flag that said “GO (Y/N)!”.
Some kids had made posters, you saw one from some 3rd years that had Marlene’s and your name on it, along with two little stick figures flying around the castle really fast. But Gryffindors weren’t the only supporters you had, Sybil and Nina, from Ravenclaw, both had a pin similar to the one the small Gryffindor girl was wearing and they were sitting together with their own little poster. And even Imogen, who had also opted out of the race, had one pin with Alexander’s face and another with Sirius, Marlene and you.
As for Sirius, being the heartthrob that he was, had tons of posters, and pins, and you swore you saw a girl with a sweater with his face on it. It is definitely going to get to his head, you thought as you walked towards the competitors’ tent, broom in hand. Sirius hadn’t come out yet, and Marlene was walking next to you. Minho and Holden were already in there, both waved to you and Marlene when they spotted you. They also had their fair quantity of posters and memorabilia scattered all over the crowd. Minho maybe had as many as Sirius, and it wasn’t strange, he was just as much of a heartthrob as your friend. Alex arrived later, and you waved to him with a smile, he walked straight towards you.
“You’re quite popular,” he said with raised eyebrows “Rumours travel really fast, don’t they? Should’ve asked for your autograph the day I brought you back to the school.”
You chuckled, “Don’t stress too much about it, I’ll always have discounted autographs for you.” You joked back. The two of you were laughing together when Sirius finally arrived. He had put his hair up in a ponytail, some of the shorter strands of his hair were framing his face, the girl with his sweater alongside her friends fawned over him as he walked beside them, same, you thought as you stared at him. Gale was behind him, not causing as much of a commotion as Sirius, but still holding his fair share of cheers. When Sirius walked into the tent, he had a smirk plastered on his face.
“Being pretty is not going to make you any faster,” Alex joked.
“Maybe,” Sirius said cockily “but it sure feels good to be cheered for the loudest,” his smirk growing with his answer, that got a laugh from everyone.
You leaned in towards Marlene and whispered “Attention whore.”
Marlene giggled, nodding in agreement “The biggest of us.” Sirius talked to Minho and some older boys from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff you hadn’t yet met.
Imogen had popped inside the tent at some point, even if she wasn’t going to participate in the race, she still had that Quidditch Team member privilege “Feeling ready?” She asked you and Marlene.
“Born ready,” you replied confidently. You were happily talking to her when you saw someone walk in the tent. His hair long, framing his face, wearing green from head to toe, and with a brand new-looking broom, Regulus.
The minute he saw you he walked towards you, with the intention of saying hello, he hoped that now you and Sirius were better off, you wouldn’t be so hostile towards him. He hoped wrong.
“(Y/N),” he said, politely approaching you. You looked at him, not saying a word, “How– How’ve you been? I.. ‘ve been meaning to–“
“–Regulus,” he shut up the moment you spoke. “We’re not friends. Stop trying to talk to me,” you said before awkwardly nodding and walking towards Sirius and the boys. Regulus looked at you, hurt evident in his eyes, Marlene gave him a pitiful look and went back to her conversation with Imogen. She was telling her how this boy from the Gryffindor Tower had made a bunch of the pins and posters people had worn to support them.
Once you arrived you stood between Sirius and Minho, a boy who you hadn’t met spoke “So… this is your famous keeper?” He had silver hair and wore blue robes. You smiled at him politely.
“This is Lionel Aldrige,” said Minho, “Ravenclaw’s Captain, and keeper.”
“Nice to meet you,” you said, extending your hand.
He took it in his, he had a firm grip “Nice to meet you too, (Y/N), I’ve heard plenty of you.”
You smiled, “Hope all good.”
He nodded “I’d go as far as to say you’ve got your own little fan club in the Ravenclaw tower, I’m excited to finally see you fly.”
“I won’t disappoint,” you said with a wink.
Sirius cleared his throat and placed an arm over your shoulders, You raised an eyebrow at his reaction, but he ignored it, making himself comfortable, “‘Course she won’t. She’s ours,” he said pointing to his red and yellow sweater.
That’s when James walked in, alongside Dimitry and Delilah Moss, the Hufflepuff captain “Lionel!” Shouted Dimitry “We need to talk.”
After talking between themselves for a second, they came back, Delilah and Lionel pushed a table with a cloth on top covering something towards you and the rest of the competitors “Gather ‘round!” She said.
James smiled and grabbed a piece of parchment, “Simple rules: No intentional hexes or courses, no grabbing a competitor’s broom, no unauthorised shortcuts, stay on the designated course and for the love of god, wear your safety gear and avoid collisions with each other. This is not quidditch. I know some of you are used to playing rough, but this is about flying ability and speed, so save those moves for the games.”
“Sorry, James,” said Gale “But… I believe we don’t know what the designated course is.”
James smiled “I was really hoping you’d ask that,” he said before pulling the cloth and revealing a small 3D version of the castle. 4 small balls of red, green, yellow and blue, going through different sections of Hogwarts, all following the same path.
“We have placed several light halos all over the course we designed,” started Delilah “You will have to pass through each and every one of them whenever you spot it. Unless you’ve passed through them all, you will not count as a winner, even if you get to the finish line first. It won’t be an easy task, we’ve made sure of it. We’re not only testing your km/h, we’ll be also testing how quick you can react to things happening around you, so expect setbacks.”
“Some halos will be easier than others,” added Dimitry “Keep an eye out for the harder ones. The race will have a total of 3 laps around the castle. It means you’ll have to follow this path,” he said pointing at the bright lights on the 3D model “at least 3 times before you finish. If you miss a halo, that means you’ll have to do another lap to get it.”
“Any questions?” Asked Lionel with a bright smile.
“Are there any specific penalties for breaking the rules?" Asked a Slytherin boy, who you quickly identified as Barty Crouch Jr. the kid that hated your guts after you broke his nose with a quaffle.
“You break them, you’re out of the race,” Delilah said sternly.
“But, how would you know if we did,” asked a taller boy next to Barty, with ashy blonde hair, handsome, but dangerous looking.
“Rosier,” Dimitry warned, “we do not cheat in my team.”
The boy raised his hands in defeat, an amused look on his face, he was looking forward to Dimitry leaving the next year.
"Do we have to pass through the halos in a specific order?" Asked a Hufflepuff girl you didn’t recognize.
“Yes, you miss one, you have to do another lap to get it,” Alex responded “Any other questions?”
You shook your head, but then smirked and raised your hand “Yeah,” you said confidently “When do we start?”
James looked at you, looking slightly impressed by your boldness, he wanted that kind of confidence in the next Quidditch match.
“We start now,” Delilah said with a smile and motioned for you to walk out. More people had piled around the starting line, and they cheered as you and all the competitors walked out. Looking around, you realised there was even more merchandise going around now. Most students just had something themed after their house, but a good deal of them had some of those same pins and flags and posters with your faces on them.
You turned to Marlene with a shrug “How did that happen?”
“Johnny Ackley,” she told you.
You shrugged, remembering the name “Same kid with an illegal brewery hidden in his room?”
“Imogen told me he says he’s an entrepreneur,” she explained “She said she thinks we should all charge him a fee for using our faces without permission.” She then pointed at the crowd “he’s clearly making a good buck from it.”
You shrugged “I’m just really curious… How did he get pictures of us? I mean, you all make sense but, I’ve been here for like, a month?”
Marlene smiled, “It seems you’re gonna have to accept the fact that you’re popular now.”
You laughed “I guess I’ll be when I win.”
“Second place, you mean?” She asked with a smile. And the two of you chuckled.
Suddenly Dimitry’s voice boomed, amplified by his wand, “Contestants, on your marks!”
You winked at Marlene and walked towards the line that had your name on it. You could easily see the first bright light halo in front of you. Sirius was next to you on the line-up, and Minho stood on the other side. Both already mounting their brooms.
“Positions!” He said. Everyone kicked the floor and started hovering about half a metre above the ground, “The race starts when you see the sparks.”
The four team captains arranged themselves in a line, parallel to you and the rest of the competitors. They all raised their wands, and in an instant, sparks from the colour of their houses left their wands at once. You sped up straight towards the first halo, that’d you stopped earlier on and flew right by it. Suddenly it went from white to red, you’d been the first one to reach it.
“(Y/N) takes the lead of the race with an unprecedented acceleration towards the first halo!” You heard someone’s voice, starting to narrate what was happening. You were not aware you’d have a narrator.
But you paid no mind to it, to anything really, you were focused on darting as fast as you could towards the next halo, that you saw just a couple of metres above the courtyard. It was still white, which meant, you were still at the head, you smiled at the thought.
Out of nowhere, you saw a bright flash of red pass by you, Marlene had surpassed you, and she was first to cross the next halo. You smirked and picked up some more speed, swiftly going round the astronomy tower, beating her to the next one. You saw a flash of green to your side, the handsome but dangerous Slytherin boy surpassed you. He’s fast, you thought, but not as fast as me.
You leaned in closer to the broom, to reduce the friction, and darted past him like an arrow. Claiming the first spot yet again. Sirius caught up with you quickly “On your left,” he said before he dived straight toward the floor, getting the next halo first. You smiled, shaking your head before catching up to him.
“Was it fun while it lasted?” you asked him with a smirk as you passed him and took the next halo.
The race was tight, you could hear the way the brooms from your peers whistled as they coursed through the air at such high speeds. Regulus passed you a couple of times, but you regained your spot every single one of them. By the end of the first lap, you were still at the head of the race.
When you passed the finish line, all the halos were reset to white, ready for the contestants to pass through them as fast as possible, but things were slightly different now, thick stormy clouds had piled on one side of the castle.
“Competitors look more than ready to take up the second part of the race!” the commentator said excitedly “Be careful, things may not be as easy as they were previously.”
Those whims of the weather were not natural, which meant the captains had probably created them as part of their setbacks. The minute you crossed the first hoop you felt strong wind throwing you back. And not only that, but the atmosphere was becoming foggy too. You turned your head to James, who was casually looking up at you from where he was, he didn’t even have to see your face to tell you were giving him a reproachful look about it, so he shrugged in response, a playful smile appearing on his face.
You exhaled, shaking your head before looking up ahead again, the wind was very strong, barely letting you move at all, even as you tried flying full speed. Sirius and Holden, who were much taller and heavier than you, used that to their advantage and overtook you. Marlene was fighting the wind a couple metres to your side and the Hufflepuff girl that you’d met earlier was behind the two of you.
Pushing through was not going to be enough, you had to find another way to get out of the air current. When Minho passed by, you moved straight behind him, using his weight and height to your favour, you flew as close as possible to him, so you could actually move ahead. Marlene and the Hufflepuff girl took your example and did the exact same thing with two other boys that were passing by them.
“You having fun there?” Minho asked.
You laughed “Got a good view of that back all the girls fawn over,” you replied.
“Do they?” He asked with a smirk, that you couldn’t really see.
“As if you didn’t know,” you replied. Once the wind started to die down you accelerated again, flying next to Minho for a second. “Thanks for that love!” you said before passing by and launching yourself behind Holden and Sirius, who were fighting for the first spot.
Minho just laughed and accelerated behind you too, not quite enough to surpass you, but still trailing behind you just a little. The weather was now turning foggy, and you could hear the thunder approaching, or rather, you were the one rapidly approaching it. In between the fog, you spotted one of the white halos and dived straight towards it. Sirius and Holden, who were just a couple of metres ahead of you, saw it. The halo a lot clearer now than it was earlier since it had turned red.
You smiled “You can still go back and not fall behind that much,” you shouted at the two.
“Yeah, we’d only be falling behind you, wouldn’t we?” Asked Holden as he took a sharp turn back and flew past you in the other direction.
“Not my fault you boys are blind,” you said waving at Sirius with a smile as he passed by you, straight towards Holden. You took your chance and accelerated as much as possible, hoping to leave the boys behind.
When you entered the rain you gasped, the droplets were so cold it might as well have been snow, your googles started fogging up, so you passed your sleeve over them to clean them, spotting another one of the Halos a couple of metres in front of you, next to one of the windows of the astronomy tower. But then you heard the thick rumbling of thunder and saw a lighting bolt shoot straight next to your right. You flew sidewards as it almost fell on your face, and then another bolt shot through your left, giving you little to time to react “Fucking hell Potter!” You shouted, even if no one could hear you, with the thick rain and the rumbling of thunder “What the fuck were you thinking when you planned this race?!”
You finally managed to pass through the halo and sped to the next one near the top. At some point you heard someone scream, the Hufflepuff girl had been hit by a lightning bolt a couple of metres behind and she was falling. You looked at her preoccupied and took your wand out “arresto momentum,” you shouted, same spell Lily had used on you a couple of weeks back. The girl stopped falling for a second and then went back, only a couple of feet down. You heard a cry of pain as she fell on her wrist, and you were about to fly towards her when you spotted some people were already running towards her. You gulped and went back to the race. That could’ve been you.
As you continued flying, you finally out flew the lighting, apparently it was only near the spot of that particular halo. But the rain was still heavy and the wind was still blowing, cold against your skin. You narrowed your eyes when you saw another halo, just above the forbidden forest, near the spot where you’d found and helped Fang. You dived towards it and did a sharp turn ahead right before hitting one of the trees. As you out flew the rain, the cold wind made you shiver, but you pushed through, you were determined to win this race. If there was something you just couldn’t shake off, it was how competitive you were.
Another halo shone brightly over one of the towers, and you launched yourself upwards as fast as possible, being beaten by none other than Barty. When he crossed the halo it turned green but then turned maroon. You passed right behind, catching up to him. “You missed that one,” you said pointing to the one above the trees “You’re gonna have to do another lap.”
He looked at you with loathing, and flew towards you really fast, if he wasn’t going to win, you weren’t either. Thankfully you were faster, and instead of playing along, you decided to launch forward towards the finish line, leaving Barty behind. Once you crossed it, some sparks flew by, you’d been the first one to reach it, one more time. “And (Y/N)’s speed knows no bounds! Even after falling behind due to the strong wind, she’s still at the head of the race.”
One more lap, you thought, Just one more. The rain and the thunder were gone, and you easily flew through a couple of halos before you realised where they were taking you. All the halos that you could see were all darting into one direction, and one direction only: The Forbidden Forest.
You were still going through the halos as fast as possible, but hesitated when one of them led you straight through a dark circle of trees in the forest. Holden was the one to pass you this time, followed by Sirius who smiled at your hesitance “You scared?” He teased as he buzzed by.
You smiled, that was all the convincing you needed “Just giving you some advantage!” You shouted at him as you followed closely behind. You were flying just by Sirius' side, the two of you moving like clockwork when you had to take a sharp turn or move up and down when thicker branches approached. You saw shadows in the threes as you buzzed by, eyes staring from the distance. James had warned some of the creatures he knew there’d be people flying by, and they were all watching the race just as gleefully as the wizards were.
“Why are you still tailing me? Scared of going deeper into the forest by yourself?” Sirius teased further.
You smiled, “Was just keepin’ ya company,” you said before flying over a thick branch and overtaking him, “but I guess I’ll comply to your wish and take over.”
Sirius smiled at your trick and rounding over a tree he took the lead again “You were saying?”
You chuckled lightly, and continued flying closely, the two of you constantly overtaking each other to take the lead. The coordination the two of you had together in the air, made you look like you had practised and planned it before, reality was, the two of you had flown together so many times by then, that you could pretty much predict his movements, and he could do the same to yours. Even in the middle of the race, in the middle of the Forbidden Forest, that was absolutely terrifying to you since those nightmares started happening, you were having fun. In fact, you were absolutely thrilled.
So focused on each other you didn’t even notice the moment you left the thick woods, and went back to the school grounds, allowing the two of you to pick up the pace once more. You saw Holden, who’d passed the two of you earlier and turned to Sirius “Pleasure flying alongside you, as always,” you said, giving him the classic navy salute before flying as fast as possible towards Holden. Towards the whomping willow.
Sirius looked at the Halo in between the branches and his diverted expressions suddenly turned awry “She doesn’t know what the tree is,” he whispered to himself and tried to catch up with you. When he finally managed, you were already entering the range of the tree. “(Y/N),” he screamed “Whomping Willow!”
You turned to him with a diverted smile, was he trying to trick you to slow down? There was no way there was a whopping willow on Hogwarts grounds. It was too dangerous. “Sure thing Sirius, and watch out for the troll behind you!” You replied with a smile.
Sirius looked at you worried as a thick branch shot straight towards you, the tree wasn’t holding itself back. And you were not looking ahead, you were looking at him. So he did the only thing he could think of, he flew as close as possible to you and threw himself at you, pushing the two of you off your brooms.
The moment you fell off your broom, you were shocked since you saw the thick branch hit your Dark Nimbus and Sirius’ Sweepfire, splitting the first one in two and sending the latter, along with the pieces of yours flying, further away, deeper inside the forest. When you fell to the floor the two of you rolled down the hill for a couple of metres before finally stopping. Sirius was still holding you tightly, even as you lay out of the Whomping Willow’s reach.
You could hear his heart drumming in his chest as you tried to regain your breath “Pourquoi es-tu tellement foutrement têtu?” He asked in between thick breaths, why are you so fucking stubborn?, thank god you spoke french.
You were still on top of him when you used your arms to push yourself upwards, to see him better, removing your goggles in a swift motion and frowning as you spoke “You– you saved me… You could’ve used the advantage, Sirius, you could’ve won the race!”
“For what? You would’ve been unfairly eliminated, it wouldn’t have meant anything.”
“You would’ve won against everyone else!” You spat back, matter of factly “Or… did you only care about beating me?” You asked frown deepening, did he still harbour animosity after what’d happened years ago?
Sirius’ hair was sprawled on the floor, he was looking at you with worry still, it looked beautiful on him. “Well duh, I’m only in this race because it was your idea in the first place!”
You looked taken aback by that, pulling your head just a little. What did he just say? “Sirius you… Are you still angry about what happened back then?”
“What? NO!” He scowled, squeezing his eyes shut for a second.
“I don’t understand–“
“–I bIoody well fancy you, alright!?” He confessed, voice loud, dripping with emotion “I fucking liked you when we met and I still like you now, and it’s eating me alive, I can’t get you out of my bIoody head and it’s consuming me whole!”
You stared at him for a second, he was already regretting what he said, thinking maybe he could play it out as a joke, even if it were a bad-taste one. But you weren’t about to reject him, you were trying to process what had happened. And so, instead of replying, you did the only natural thing you could, and leaned in to kiss him. He was surprised for a mere second before following the kiss, desperately. You were both desperate for each other, two years of pent-up emotions were finally being let out.
The second kiss you gave Sirius Black was nothing and everything like the first one. His lips were as soft as you remembered, his hair, since he’d been on the rainy parts of the race, was just as wet, and he still tasted of mint, but that was about where the similarities ended. You’d both grown, you’d both only seen each other in dreams for years, and even if you’d kissed him several times in those, none of those kisses had felt like this one.
Sirius was bigger and stronger now, his muscles tensed beneath you, his jaw sharper, the idea of a five o’clock shadow barely perceptible, brushing through your soft skin. And you were soft, so bIoody soft. As you lay atop of him, Sirius couldn’t quite believe how tender you were, even more than he remembered, softer than you had been in his dreams. He didn’t let go of you as you continued to kiss, only placing his hands over your waist, tightening his grip when your tongues finally crossed paths. You moved your hands towards his hair, toying with it as your lips danced together.
The two of you split apart due to the imminent need of oxygen, staring at each other between heavy breaths for a second, Sirius’ pupils were blown out, lips pink and slightly swollen, you could feel the gentle rise and fall of his chest as he breathed beneath you, and you smiled, looking at him with a mischievous air before leaning in to kiss him again. Succumbing to an euphoria he had long yearned for, he tightened his grip around you and turned the two of you around, letting your hair fall gently over the grass as he used one of his forearms to keep the entirety of his weight from crushing you. You smiled, almost laughing at how desperate he seemed, he was as thirsty for your lips as you had been for his. So long, you thought, why on earth hadn’t you done this before?
Sirius was a better kisser than you remembered, you moved your hands –that had ended up on his chest when he turned you around– further up, letting his soft hair entangle between your fingers, his ponytail gone at some point, perhaps during the race, perhaps as you kissed him over and over again. The moment you pushed him closer to you, a chill ran through Sirius’ body and he deepened the kiss, wishing to drown in you. He wasn’t sure there were enough kisses in this world to quench his long-contained thirst.
You heard a faint blow of a cannon and cheers erupted from a far away crowd. You separated from him, lips parted and heavy breaths as you looked into his bright bluish-grey eyes “I think we lost,” you breathed out.
He stared at you for a second and shook his head as he said “I don’t think we lost anything.” He then planted a short kiss on your lips. You smiled and then laughed as he let himself fall on the ground beside you.
“We’re literally the reason the race was even made in the first place,” you told him as you stared at the sky, now icy blue, just like his eyes. Some of the shadow from the Whomping Willow’s branches tracing patterns along your skin.
“They can suck it,” he said with a smile, the two of you laughed again. Sirius’s hand reached for yours, you could feel his rings brushing over your skin as your fingers intertwined.
“We really should do races more often,” you told him with a smile, “neither of us wins in the end, but–”
Sirius laughed “–We always end up making out.”
“Does this mean we’re a thing now?” You asked casually.
He smiled cockily at your question “You think I’d let you go now that I can kiss you when I please?”
You chuckled “Good!” The air between the two of you felt heavy, but reassuring, the silence was somehow comforting, but you broke it nonetheless “Can I still call you Puppy?”
Sirius frowned “Of course not!”
“And what if I give you a kiss for every time I call you that?” You asked with a smirk.
Sirius turned to you impressed. “If you kiss me like today, you can call me whatever the hell you please starshine.”
You laughed at his answer but nodded “Excellent.”
You stayed like that for a while, hands intertwined, listening to each other's breaths. You raised your hand along with his, admiring how the two of them looked together before you took a deep breath and spoke “We should probably go back. They’ll start looking for us.”
“What about your broom?”
You frowned and pointed towards the forest “The pieces flew off in that direction. Yours seemed to be whole. They can’t be too far.”
“Accio Sweepfire!” Sirius said, using his free hand to wave his wand towards the forest, nothing happened.
“Accio Dark Nimbus!” you said then, the top part of your broom came flying by, the sweeping part did not, “They must be stuck somewhere.”
“I’ll get them,” he said standing up “Wait for me here, yeah?” You nodded, and reluctantly let go of his hand. Watching him as he went deep into the forest. You smiled and let yourself fall to the ground with a long sigh.
Sirius had turned into a dog the moment he stepped into the forest, using his great sense of smell to find his broom and the rest of yours faster. He found his first, and went back into human form to grab the other side of yours, while flying. He did it all in a matter of minutes and flew back to where he’d left you. He smiled when he saw you lying on the grass, with your eyes closed, just enjoying the moment, he hovered over you, using his hand to cast a shadow over your eyes, so that the sun wouldn’t disturb you. You opened your eyes and smiled when you realised what he was doing “Found it?”
He nodded, and showed you the bottom side of your broom, so much for the fastest broom in the world. “I don’t think it’s got any repairing.”
“No shit Sherlock,” you responded as you stood up, the other side of the broken handle held tightly in your hand. He motioned for you to join him as he hovered very close to the floor.
You passed your hand over the handle of his broom, it was worn, but didn’t seem like it’d gotten too damaged with the blow, your broom had probably absorbed most of the punch, you sighed and mounted it behind him. You casually placed a hand over his shoulder, as you accommodated the pieces of your nimbus in between the two of you.
“You should grab on tighter, we wouldn’t want you to fall again,” Sirius said with a smirk.
You rolled your eyes but complied, closing the gap between the two of you and practically hugging him from behind, you then leaned your head over his shoulder and whispered “Don’t test your luck, Black.”
Sirius smiled at your answer and glided forward in his broom, very fast, straight towards the end of the finish line. When you two arrived people looked relieved. Rumour was going around that you’d actually gotten hit by the Whomping Willow, and that you both laid unconscious somewhere in the forest.
“They’re all right!” Someone shouted when they spotted you, pointing straight at you in the air, some of the other competitors were already preparing to go in your search.
When the two of you landed close to the finish line, James approached, a guilty-looking expression filled his face “You alright?”
“No thanks to you,” Sirius spat “The Whomping Willow? Really!?”
James looked to the side, distressed “It was Dimity’s idea,” James tried to explain “I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it, it would’ve been a great trial for flying reflexes. And everyone in the school knew about it…”
“Yeah, except for me.” You told him, raising both parts of your broken broom in the air for him to see.
He cringed when he realised how broken they were. “I’m sorry,” he said guiltily. “Did it… did it hit you?”
You shook your head “Sirius was fast enough to catch up with me and throw me off my broom before it hit it.” You explained “We were both at the lead, well, Holden was ahead of us… Sirius would’ve probably won if–“
“–You would’ve won,” Sirius corrected. “Had it not been for the tree, you would have overtook Holden in seconds.”
James looked at the two of you puzzled, you’d been fighting over who was the best and the fastest for weeks, and now you just… gave each other the win? “I should’ve warned you.”
“I should’ve been looking ahead,” you said, trying to ease James’ from the guilt that was clearly eating him up “I was so busy boasting that I wasn’t looking at my path… It’s true I didn’t expect a Whomping Willow but , it wasn’t entirely your fault.” You said in a serious tone, but changed to a more animated one “But the race was insane, the lighting and the weather changes, how did you even get permission for it? It was brilliant!”
“We didn’t,” he admitted “All the captains have bathroom cleaning duty for 2 weeks because of what happened to Matilda.”
“The Hufflepuff girl?” You asked concerned “Is she alright? I saw her fall, heard her scream.”
James nodded “She told us about your spell. Her broom was struck, but she wasn’t.”
“We made sure no contestant would get struck by them,” Delilah intervened. While it was true that the lightning had been following you around on that spot of the race, it never seemed to hit you in particular.
“They were charmed,” you concluded.
James nodded and continued “Thanks to you taking the time to save her, she only broke her wrist. She should be back in shape soon.”
“But the quidditch lineup was altered,” proceeded Lionel, who had also walked towards you “Hufflepuff won’t be playing on the first match. Which means-“ he looked at Sirius and then at you “we’ll be playing each other.”
By then Lily, Marlene and Mary had rushed towards you too, pushing people around to get to where you both stood. You saw Remus jogging behind them too. Lily was the first one to jump on you, placing both of her hands over your arms "Are you all right?" She asked, voice laced with concern, carefully scanning your face and then all of your body.
"Yeah," you nodded. "Sirius pushed me off the broom before the tree got to it,” you explained again, "he also broke most of the fall,” you added when she looked at you with apprehension.
"What about this?" She asked, pulling your hair back and running her finger over a small cut you’d gotten in your cheek, you winced.
"Must have gotten it when we rolled down the hill," you shrugged “I hadn’t noticed I had it.”
She nodded, finally letting go of you and turning to the longed-haired boy "And you Sirius?"
He smiled at her concern "I’m all right, thanks Evans… A little scratched up and beaten down, but… I saved the girl, and it was definitely worth it.”
You snorted lightly at that, most people didn’t notice, but one person did, Remus. He hadn’t taken his eyes off the two of you since he spotted you. And he noticed something was definitely different between the two. The tension, it was gone, replaced by something else, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
The announcer mentioned something about you and Sirius being alright, and how it was finally time for the lineup, which reminded you “That’s right? Who won?” The air seemed to turn a little uncomfortable, like no one wanted to mention it.
Finally, Mary answered “It was Regulus,” she said somberly, but then pointed at one of your friends with a smile “Marlene got second and Minho was third.”
You looked around, spotting Regulus in the distance, being congratulated by all of his friends, and even some other people. He seemed almost popular. If they knew the kind of snake he was, you thought, before turning to Marlene with a huge smile, “Congratulations!”
She smiled at that “If you hadn’t–“
“–NO! Marlene, you're brilliant! I saw you…” you said and placed a hand on her shoulder, pushing her slightly towards you so you could whisper something in her ear “You’re the best beater of the team, remember?”
She smiled brightly at that, and winked before following James towards the makeshift podium where he’d hand in the trophy he bought and some medals the other captains had gotten.
Regulus seemed genuinely happy when James handed the trophy to him, and he was, Walburga would be so proud he beat his brother in the race, she might actually stop pestering him about the DeathEater ritual. When it was Marlene’s turn, and Lionel placed a medal over her shoulders, you couldn’t stop clapping, you saw some camera flashes taking pictures, and realised Alex was taking some of them. You smiled and wondered what place he’d gotten, and felt a little sad you wouldn’t be playing against him in the next game.
Once the whole ceremonial thing was over, everyone started walking back to the castle. Regulus looked like he wanted to approach you, but when your eyes locked on each other you turned your head and smiled at Lily, and Mary, since you’d been talking to them. Regulus nodded, turning his head and walking back to the common room along with Barty, and Evan, who were still cheering on him.
“When we just couldn’t get past those strong winds and you straight up used Minho as a windbreaker, that was brilliant!” Marlene said with a smile. “How did you even think of it?”
You shrugged “We weren’t gonna beat them unless we did something, could’ve used our wands for a propelling spell, but I wasn’t sure it was allowed, then Minho passed by me, and you know how he’s got these really big strong shoulders? So I thought, hey! I could use that.”
“Big strong shoulders, huh?” Remus teased.
You looked at him with a little smile “Objectively speaking, yeah,” you responded.
Mary nodded in agreement “I heard some girls fawning over them in the bathrooms, and paid a closer look next time he was around. (Y/N) is right. He’s got big strong shoulders.”
“He does,” added Marlene, eyeing him from behind, “Like a Dorito.”
Everyone laughed at her comment. Sirius, who had gone off earlier came back “Who’s like a Dorito?”
“Minho, with his sexy back,” Remus responded casually, and added, “according to the girls.”
Sirius raised his eyebrows and looked at you “Does he?”
You looked at him with a smile and decided to tease him “Oh yeah, definitely.”
“And you like big strong backs, don’t you?” he pressed.
You laughed at that, Sirius was definitely smaller than Minho, but he was way prettier, at least in your eyes “I wouldn’t know, I don’t really focus on those things. I’m more of a pretty face kind of person.”
Lily laughed at that “I can attest to it,” she agreed. Eventually, your group also went back to the castle, everyone smiling and merrily talking about the race, everyone was fine, everyone was happy.

Development Update - October 2024
Hi folks, Miyazaki here bringing you an update for Mythaura's development for the month of October! We've got some species change mechanics, super cute expressions for Hippogriffs, a rich new color for your beast creations, the Ko-fi results for the Fall Quarter Ko-fi Rewards, and some astrology.
Additionally: Koa, Sark, and I have been very busy the past month scoping out the remainder of the work that needs to be done in order to support Mythaura's initial launch. We're building in plenty of buffer to account for any unforeseen work that will need doing as well as any issues that may crop up.
We're really buckling down to get Mythaura to a point where we can bring in our Beta testers and get this game into a playable state. We've come a long way in our development journey and are so thankful to have had you all along for the ride.

Changing Species: Soulshift Coins
One of our biggest goals with Mythaura is to grant users the ability to customize their Beasts to be exactly what you want them to be. To that end, we've created our species-changing items: Soulshift Coins.
Functionality
There will be one coin for each species; Tier 1 Beasts (Griffins, Unicorns, Dragons) will have bronze coins, Tier 2 Beasts (Quetzals, Kirins, and Hippogriffs) will have silver coins, and Tier 3 Beasts (Ryus, Perytons, and Basilisks) will have gold coins. We are also planning to have a Jade Soulshift Coin, which would randomize the species of the Beast that it is used on.
These single-use items will change a Beast's species, so long as they are not in a Wild Area or in battle. They can be used on both young and adult Beasts. They can also be used on expecting Beasts, but will not impact the species of the unborn offspring.
Immediately upon use, the Beast will have their secondary Element changed to match the new species (if applicable). All Skill Tree points are reset and all equipped glamours and apparel not supported by the new species will automatically be uneqipped and sent back to the player's inventory.
Acquisition
All Soulshift Coins will be obtainable with in-game currency. Access to the different tiers will be tied to the New Game cycle that the player is in:
Players in the base New Game will be able to purchase Soulshift Coins for the Tier 1 species
Players in New Game+ will be able to purchase Soulshift Coins for Tier 1 and Tier 2 species
Players in New Game+2 and beyond will be able to purchase Soulshift Coins for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 species
Tier 2 and Tier 3 Soulshift Coins will also be available through other gameplay means, like Seasonal rewards and the Weekend Traveler's inventory. Soulshift Coins that show up in the Weekend Traveler's inventory may end up being purchased with premium currency. We're still figuring out the details there, but rest assured that there will be multiple ways for players to acquire these species-changing items!

New Expressions: Hippogriffs
Koa and our talented art team have wrapped up drawing each of our available Specials, Supers, and Mutations on the expressions for both the young and adult Hippogriffs. These headshots will appear whenever a Hippogriff shows up in dialogue.

New Color: Porphyry
Named for the igneous rocks that they resemble, our color wheel's newest addition, Porphyry, is a rich red-brown with purple highlights. We encourage you to play around in the Beast Creator to come up with some fun new Beast designs!

Ko-fi Fall Quarter 2024 Winners
Thank you to all the Ko-fi sponsors who voted for the Fall Quarter 2024 rewards. Next month we will show the finalized artwork for the Inhabited Skull Companion and the Diaphonized Ryu Glamour. Stay tuned!

Mythauran Astrology: November
The month of November is referred to as Deepfrost's Current, representing the powerful and dangerous currents coursing beneath the ice floes that form to bridge the mainland to the stony islands off the coast. This month is also associated with the constellation of the Reaver and the chrysocolla stone.

Mythaura V0.33
Created functionality for species change items
Added functionality for 8 out of 12 ailments
Ongoing work implementing skill functionality
Refactored passive effects, splitting them into "battle effects" and "passive effects"
Added ailment display to battle front end
Added passive effect display to battle front end
Added checks that prevent certain game actions from occurring while in a wild area or in battle
Added temporary health, armor, and shield to beast stat bars

Thank You!
Thanks for sticking through to the end of the post, we always look forward to sharing our month's work with all of you--thank you for taking the time to read. We'll see you around the Discord.

FTF Shorts: Not Even Close!
A vs show where the longer analysis and set up is skipped in order to briefly explain why a certain fight is nowhere near close.
This Week's Fighters...
Legends!Darth Vader vs Disney!Darth Vader
Now, in most of these Not Even Close posts, the winner outclasses the loser in every conceivable category. Rest assured, that is not the case here.
In every category but one, both versions of Vader are very evenly matched. This can partly explained by largely having a shared history between both versions of the character. Both Vaders were Anakin Skywalker, both participated in the Clone Wars, and both fought the Rebel Alliance. But even in more specific showings, both have equal demonstrations.
Both versions of Vader have defeated entire armies and entire groups of Jedi at once. Both of them have survived constant assassination attempts from both coworkers and enemies alike, and both of them have completely curbstomped lower level Jedi with trivial ease.
Versatility then? Even ignoring the feats that are literally identical between the versions, both have very identical showings. Both have force choked or mind controlled across galactic distances. Both have used their abilities to precisely target specific organs or grandly wipe out armies. Both have ripped spaceships out of the sky like they're nothing, even. While you can argue for Legends Vader having specific abilities unique to him,a lot of those feats are taken out of context. He can only, say, transmute people into monsters or shoot balls of thunder when amplified by dark side artifacts, which wouldn't be present here. Even if they were, those would increase Disney Vader's strength by proximity so no dice. It'd just balance out.
Even in terms of stats, both Vaders have comparable feats. Speed should be dead even, as both can evade lightspeed blaster fire and pilot spaceships moving at vastly faster than light speeds. And in durability and attack potency, both are again comparable.
Legends Vader is stronger than Yarael Poof, who absorbed the energy of a planet destroying superweapon while dying? Disney Vader tanked a planet exploding in his face point blank. Legends Vader fought Galen Marek, who could ripe Star Destroyers out of the sky? Disney Vader shook the entire planet of Mustafar. As both Vaders have said about the Death Star, the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
The devil, of course, is in the specific scaling for their higher ends.
Disney canon Vader is treated as far stronger than Kylo Ren, who is considered to be far more powerful than any other weapon owned by the First Order, including the Starkiller Base.

Vader is far stronger than this, as tie in material has revealed that Kylo would struggle to defeat Luke during Empire Strikes Back. The same Luke Vader casually bullied.

This means, Disney Canon Vader is several magnitudes atronger than a star absorbing superweapon. An 8.7 Foe (Large Star Level) feat.

But, Legends Canon Vader is far stronger even still. He is famously 80% of Palpatine during the reign of the Empire.

Palpatine, much earlier in his life, while far far weaker, caused the stars in the sky in quake and constellations across the galaxy to rearrange as a side effect to killing his master Darth Plagueis. Reshaping the galaxy, as he puts it.

This would require energy up to 1099000000 Foe (Solar System Level)

This is genuinely consistent, as both Vader and Palpatine have statements claiming them as being able to bust solar systems.
When all else is generally equal, the singular disparity becomes a deciding factor. And no matter how you split it, Legends Vader is millions of times stronger than his Disney canon counterpart as of now. Making this a decisive stomp due to one singular category.
This Throwdown's Winner is....

Darth Vader!

sweet sting
a mouthwashing selfship fic inspired by this lip plumper i got at good ol' winners
Jimmy watches Ezra from afar as they perform one last examination in the mirror; turning side to side as they straighten their clothes and hair, fingers adorned with muted lavender polish reach out and pinch a mote of lint off their shoulder before sending it floating to the floor. Ready to leave. But before they can step out of the mirror's reflection, Jimmy swoops in to fill the space behind them and observe their figures with a sense of satisfaction.
"Lookin' good," he says simply, a smirk on his mouth as he meets their eyes through the glass, which prompts a smile from them. Their outfit is assembled with care and consideration, their hair styled out into choppy wisps arranged just so in order to look effortless, a daytime makeup look about their eyes that was simple but precise, eye-catching without being dramatic, brows in a perfect arch and eyes lined with something that shimmered from green to blue at different angles. And their lips look especially kissable today, red and plump under a coat of gloss that caught the light.
Ezra skirts the line of vanity just perfectly for Jimmy's taste. Not so vain as to be overly high maintenance - he couldn't put up with that shit even if he could afford it - but vain enough to look like a prize and make him feel like a winner every time they step outside of the house. He admires the image before him, yeah, they look fucking good together.
"Ready to go?" He asks.
"Mhm."
He leans over their shoulder and turns his face towards theirs. Easy, a motion practiced a thousand times, they turn towards him in kind and their lips meet in a kiss. "Let's head out, then," he says, and Ezra moves to head for the door. But before Jimmy steps out of the frame, he turns to look at his reflection, to note the gloss that clings to his own mouth. He wasn't afraid of being seen with it; he was gonna wear it like a trophy for as long as the day would allow. He checks his pockets for keys and wallet, and then follows Ezra, rubbing his lips together to smooth the product.
And then it starts. A few pinprick tingles that put a furrow in his brow, quickly exploding into a dazzling constellation of pain on his lips. "Oh god," he exclaims, stopping dead in his tracks. "Oh fuck, what the fuck is on my mouth? It hurts!" Jimmy looks down into his open palms with parted lips, he's afraid to touch them together, afraid to touch them with his hands, afraid to get this evil substance in his mouth somehow, but the sensation doesn't let up.
Ezra turns around and rushes to him. "Oh- oh no!" They exclaim, but it comes on a laugh, with a grin and a sparkle of amusement in their green eyes, and he meets their gaze with anger and indignation- "What are you laughing at?" he questions, and can't take it anymore, instinctively wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, passing it over until he's certain it's gone. The sensation on his lips subsides a little, and he can feel the tingle on the back of his hand, though with much less intensity. "What is this shit?" He looks at the back of his hand with horror as Ez retreats to the kitchen and comes back with a damp paper towel, reaching up to dab and swipe over his lips, to remove the last of the product and soothe the burn.
"It's lip plumper. I forgot I had it on- and you're not used to it," they say, taking his hand and swiping the gloss off.
"You intentionally put this shit on your lips? And forgot?" Jimmy is incredulous.
"I put this shit on my face. Well, not this exact shit. It's got reedles in it. Like tiny microscopic needles," they explain, to Jimmy's growing horror, "and actually the stuff I put on my face has way more reedles than the lip plumper" Ez goes back to the kitchen to dispose of the paper towel.
"You put this on your- are you okay?" he calls from the room over. "Are your meds still working? Like, is this some kind of messed up self-harm thing, or?" He asks in dry humour, though he was only about 95% joking.
"Beauty is pain, my love," Ezra croons with the exaggerated cadence of an old film superstar, before they cross the threshold into the entryway, eyes lighting up when they catch his face. "And you are beautiful, my god," they approach him, and reach their hand up to tenderly stroke the margin of his bottom lip with their thumb. "Wow, it works fast. You look so... kissable," they giggle, and Jimmy instantly understands that his lips must be red and puffy like theirs, he has half a mind to go back to the mirror and check, but decides against it, rolling his eyes and making a gesture to the door.
"I'm gonna have to beat off the ladies with a stick," they continue as they open the front door and step outside.
"Yeah, yeah."
"I'll have to kick their fucking shins with my steel toes," they make an exaggerated kick with their booted foot, and Jimmy rolls his eyes again as he locks the door, thinking he must look more like a clown than a pouting heartthrob. But they smile and push themself into his side, and his chest swells with affection anyways.

I am sirius-ly overwhelmed with the amount of wonderful responses I got. Thank you sooo much! Now I need you again to decide which one I should use from now on since there were way too many good one's for me to simply choose.
We will do it in rounds. I tried to sort them into categories (sometimes they overlap, but I can only take 12 per round, so i tried to fit them all) and in the end I will present you the winner from each topic in one final poll (or like the ones with the most votes I guess). I didn't put them in any specific order.

POETRY BOOK OF THE DAY: Bamboo on the Tracks: Sakura Snow and Colt Peacemaker by Tony Wallin-Sato
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/bamboo-on-the-tracks-sakura-snow-and-colt-peacemaker-by-tony-wallin-sato/
Bamboo on the Tracks: Sakura Snow and Colt Peacemaker is an exploration of impermanence and the fragile dance between multi #ethnic #identities. These #poems flow through the author’s #Hapa experience without shying away from incarceration, overdoses, and heroin addiction, but also the multi generational trauma created from war, poverty and otherness. This collection is broken into three sections to reflect the interconnectedness of nature, emptiness and ancestry. We are taken from the backcountry trails of Northern California to protests in Paris, psych wards to jail cells, and the #Japanese landscapes of the mind. Bamboo on the Tracks is an experience of meditation on the cushion and the attachments we face on the street simultaneously.
Tony Wallin-Sato is a Japanese American who works with formerly/currently incarcerated individuals in higher education. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from California State University, Long Beach. His chapbook of poems, Hyouhakusha: Desolate Travels of a Junkie on the Road, was published in 2021 through Cold River Press. Bamboo on the Tracks: Sakura Snow and Colt Peacemaker was selected by John Yau for the 2022 Robert Creeley Memorial Award and his second book of poems, Okaerinasai, is forth coming from Wet Cement Press.
PRAISE FOR Bamboo on the Tracks: Sakura Snow and Colt Peacemaker by Tony Wallin-Sato
If you feel disconnected, estranged and enraged from this whirl of maddening sewage issuing from daily life, then read this book, it will clear the air, set your sights on higher ground and balance you out again…great stuff!
–Jimmy Santiago Baca, Poet and winner of the American Book Award, Pushcart Prize, International Hispanic Heritage Award, and International Award, his most recent book is The Misfits, by ARTE PUBLICO press.
“In Tony Wallin-Sato‘s Bamboo on The Tracks grief traverses from door to door, prison cell to mental institution, Alaska to Paris to Kyoto. The poems are peopled with casual encounters, precise and heartbreaking, as well as the meetings and non-meetings of generations between Sato and his mother, Sato and his father, Sato and his grandmother. In the poet’s hand, darkness is ‘stiched with stars’ and cans of Busch Light recall lessons in impermanence. Bamboo on The Tracks combines the fervency of industrial hip-hop and the elegance of jazz. A poetry collection, a witnessing, a manifesto of the heart, an awakening.”
Warmly,

Tony Wallin-Sato wants to get back to where he’s from. Trouble is, he’s never been there. This book takes us through the many places he’s been instead. City streets. Back country trails. In and out of Asian ethnicities. Visits to the psych ward. A street funeral. Addiction. Prison. Tony is from trouble. Trouble with identity. Trouble with authority. Kid with a mouth. Kid running the ultimate con: Poetry. The key that gets him through his time. Into classrooms. Bringing others on his journey. Like post cards home, this is wild language looking for roots. Naming the trees: Pacific yew. Blue oak. Ancient bristlecone pine: where solitary carries another meaning. The noodle house where he shares memories with his mother, both of them hungry for culture and spiritual practice. The vacancy where his American father, one year sober, compares places they’ve done time, reveals the true meaning of impermanence. Visits to his mother’s mother: I remind her of back home–a place I haven’t been yet. The journey brings him to the San Francisco Marina and the streets where he learned to walk: to learn/of my memories. I came here to witness my futureMessenger, pilgrim, bringer of care: Tony Wallin-Sato wants to take us home.
–Jerry Martien – Author of Infrastructure: Dreams, Divinations, and Dispatches From the Underground
Rimbaud and Whitman and Lorca – oh, my. Tony Wallin-Sato’s poems embody acceptance of experience in their expansiveness, their attentiveness to detail, their love of sounds. Like his favorite authors, Wallin-Sato’s narrators wander and observe, consider and evaluate, and most of all, include. Radical inclusion. The poems contain a gentleness of spirit while addressing the necessary ferocity of survival. They are always questioning, always searching, and the search is spiritual and physical as the poet takes us through cities and landscapes, towns and places of wild quietness. The Virgil of these poems has touched down in jail cells and train cars, mountaintops, coffee shops and galleries, and brings a little piece of each to everywhere else. A mosaic of fire escapes, a Modernist trope, Pall malls and a swamp of men find themselves allied in the first stanza of a poem. Beautiful remnants and residue, things that are crumbling and fenced, abandoned and abundant. And no shortage of loss in the meditative spaces these poems create amidst their density of language, image, and people. I could go on and on. Really, I have gone on too long. Read these poems. Read this book.
–Patty Seyburn – author of Threshold Delivery
“In Bamboo on the Tracks: Sakura Snow and Colt Peacemaker, Tony Wallin-Satotakes us on an intensely personal journey — pain and beauty often traveling hand in hand. He paints arresting images that allow us into a world I wouldn’t otherwise be privy to. But once there, I’m pulled willingly into his reality by the incandescence of his poetry.”

Ya Basic - Back to Nonbasics Commentary
It's that time of the week again, folks! Here's the commentary for the remainder of the submissions. One thing I want to mention before getting into the card-by-card feedback is a few recurring themes I noticed; namely, the purpose lands serve in a game of Magic. Ultimately, big, splashy, game-changing effects should be ones that players can interact with. That's why they show up on other card types, and often cost a hefty amount of mana. Lands, on the other hand, are meant to provide you with resources in order to help you play the game. Obviously, they can do more than just tap for one mana apiece, but the line is a tricky one to draw. In the FPS analogy of magic, Torment of Hailfire is the DPS, and your lands are the support roles. Some of the submissions this week cross that line a bit, trying to make lands that are cool and flashy all on their own. And I get it! The very nature of this contest demands that you make something exciting and revolutionary so it'll stand out! But, hopefully as the winners and runners-up show, I will usually give more praise to a "boring" but well-designed card than I will to something that goes all-out on flashiness for the sake of it. Obviously that's my personal proclivity and I can't speak for the other judges, but there you have it. As always, I am available here or on Discord if you want to converse about feedback or pick my brain for reasons unrelated.
Ugh, that was a ramble. Here's the lands!

Astral Canvas by @spooky-bard
So far, we’ve only seen one enchantment land- I assume they’re a bit more dangerous than artifact lands because of the prevalence of constellation effects? Anyways, this seems like a fairly balanced one in that regard. Sure, you get an enchantment ETB, but this is a waste (heh) until you are able to play more enchantments- which are almost always colored, so this doesn’t really help you with mana fixing. I think it’s pretty solid balance-wise. The flavor is a bit generic, but I suppose that’s better than making it the billionth theros-themed enchantment effect. All in all, it’s a very solid card, and was pretty close to winning this week.

Aurora Barrows by @i-am-the-one-who-wololoes
Threshold is an old mechanic for sure, meaning that it was underutilized when it first debuted. This is a pretty simple take on it, but one that makes a lot of sense- it’s the generic rainbow land that turns itself on with the set mechanic. However, I think threshold is just a little too mid-game-y for this land to ever be useful. With conditional rainbow lands, you want to have the possibility of turning them on in the first few turns in order to really get a use out of them, but threshold is hard to hit that fast unless you’re aggressively going for a self mill strategy. Which, hey, every card has its place, but this one just doesn’t seem worth playing to me.

Breathtaking Vista by @snugz
Okay, using inspired as a mechanic to represent literal artistic inspiration is very clever, and you worked the name and flavor text in a way I can really appreciate. I do think there’s some logistical issues with the timing of the trigger and the fact that it’s on a land- this is a really easy trigger to just get absolutely buried in the flurry of actions that is your beginning phase, and I’m not sure if I see an easy way to fix that. This does put me in mind of an art-themed world, however, which is a fascinating concept to me, and one I hope you might expand on.

Cacophonous Catacomb by @izzet-always-r-versus-u
The long-lost sibling of our Threshold land above. This one fixes some of the issues I had with Aurora Barrows- namely, it helps enable itself, delirium is conditionally easier than threshold depending on deck construction, and the reward is a bit greater, with two mana instead of a single rainbow mana. However, I wonder if this might be too good? Not because of the reward, but I can think of a lot of decks that would love a free mill every turn, or four if you hit your playset of these. There is admittedly the tradeoff of not having colored mana from these, but I would like to see how this plays in a strong reanimator shell before passing any real judgement.

Collapsing Peatland by @salamileg
This is one of those cards that I thought I knew what it said, but had to come back and reread it to make sure. The addition of the word “land” here really changes this from a strong enabler card to a balanced dual land, since the opportunity cost of having to pitch another land makes it a big decision. I would personally make sure to include reminder text that it taps for black and green, but that’s a small nitpick. Also, that flavor text is really depressing. Not a criticism, but dang.

Dormant Volcano // Fields of Ash by @helloijustreadyourpost
I missed the transform clause at first and realy thought you put a repeatable board wipe on a land, and I was ready to just shake my head in disappointment. However, it’s a much cleaner design than that, and I never should have doubted you. HOWEVER, there are some logistical issues to be found here. Obviously, you want to hold the board wipe until you can be sure you’re killing as many creatures as possible, since you only have one shot to get this guy loaded with corpse counters. The issue arises when the land transforms, you go to combat, and all of a sudden you’re forgetting the delayed corpse counter triggers since you don’t have that text right in front of you. Since the land is already tapped, I think the easiest solution would be to have it transform at the beginning of the next end step. Little functional difference, but it means that it’ll be easier to remember and track the creatures that were caught in the eruption.

Forsaken Battlefield by @bergdg
Simple, classic, and... maybe not that good? Hey, it would be pretty solid in Limited, and that counts for something. Maybe Prosper EDH would like it. In a multiplayer game, you’re pretty likely to hit this at least once a round, so it’s just a matter of holding up two mana in the hopes of stockpiling more. Honestly though? I think this might play better if you up the threshold to two or three creatures dying, and then remove the mana cost and just allow it to tap. That makes it feel more like a battlefield if multiple things have to die, and removes a bit of the opportunity cost of having to hold another land in reserve alongside this one.

Harmonious Karst by @horsecrash
So, I’m honestly unsure about how to judge this one. I did ask for some consideration of Limited viability, and even if planechase could be made into a draft set (god I want it so bad Wizards please give it to me), this seems like it would be a very swingy land at uncommon, especially if it’s a cycle like the typing implies. Sure, always entering tapped is a downside, but making it so that you have two free rolls of the planar die every turn seems really good in a set built around the concept. Obviously it’s impossible to really judge this without seeing it in action, but I think I would like this better at rare, and maybe as a rainbow land instead of a dual that implies a full or half cycle of these.

Hazardous Warehouse by @0woah
Hoo boy, this land seems pretty straightforward, but I reckon the rules would get FUNKY. What happens if you reveal a Reflecting Pool or Exotic Orchard? Can those lands see the battlefield? Can the game even recognize what mana a land card in your hand is capable of producing? I would definitely have to consult with someone more experienced than me to see if this would work, and the confusion might not be worth it. It’s still an incredibly cool concept though, that’s for sure. The last ability could use some tightening up on the wording, since currently it looks like it can only exile creatures that already have that many time counters on it. Also, if you’re in even a decent shape, that’s essentially just a permanent, repeatable exile on a land, which is... a little scary. Lots of cool ideas here, but temperance is the key to making a solid design, especially a land.

Howling Cliff by @deg99
I do think we could stand to see more of the typal “if you control this creature or have one in hand” lands, like Murmuring Bosk. Wolf/ Werewolf is a dual tribe that makes a lot of sense here, and the first half of the card is great. I’m honestly not sure how to feel about that last ability- I get that you want to make allowances for old and new werewolves, but the way you balanced it, it looks like it was meant to transform a single werewolf, then you hastily added the day/night text because you realized a new werewolf wouldn’t transform- but then forgot to take into account that the ability now transforms ALL your werewolves. What’s more, at 6 functional mana, you’re likely putting most of your mana into this, meaning you won’t be casting spells, meaning the day/night becomes a bit redundant. It’s a tricky one for sure, and I don’t have a solution for you, but it does need some kind of adjustment.

Karbranth Grand Clinic by @mmmmmin
Thought you could sneak a Stormlight Archives reference by me, huh? Huh??? Jokes aside, it is important to bring up the fact that we tend to avoid Universe Beyond cards in the contests unless we explicitly ask for them, such as when we run our IP contests. That being said, I am going to assume this was an act of not knowing the rules, rather than deliberate malice, so I’m going to evaluate the card as though it was just a generic MTG land. I do like how the paying life/ lifelink abilities synergize, allowing you to hopefully regain the life you’ve lost to this land, while not making it too easy with a power boost. The third ability is where things fall apart for me a little bit, since you seem to have gone for flavor over gameplay. Citizen is a very niche creature type, so I think this could have just allowed you to sacrifice any creature. Investigate is neat, for sure- the talk of samples and death implies that killing people gives you clues- but why the coin flip? That just seems out of nowhere, and doesn’t really mesh with the design. A good question to ask yourself at this stage is “what deck does this want to be in?” At the moment, this wants to have Citizen typal, be an aristocrats deck to make the sacrifice worth it, maybe care about clues to some degree, and then also be able to manipulate coin flips. It’s pulling in a lot of different directions, which doesn’t really do it many favours, obscuring the really cool ideas you had.

Lochthwain, Compleated by @curiooftheheart
Okay, this is definitely one of the coolest “ETB untapped” conditions I’ve seen. It makes sense that “legendary” locations should care about Legendary figures. The different take on Castle Locthwain’s card draw is also pretty sweet, still rewarding you for having a smaller hand rather than being greedy. However, I just don’t see the phyrexian flavor here? This could just be Locthwain 2.0. It has the same card draw, the same life loss, etc, so where is the Compleated part coming from? I guess that might be a little too nitpicky, and I don’t know what exactly I expected, but Compleated made me think there would be some mechanical tangent it would go on to differentiate itself from the OG design.

Marrow Dunes by @certification-wizard
One of our other Desert cards this week, and another one that cares about the graveyard- in a cool way, too. Not only does this provide prime fodder for the cards asking you to sacrifice a desert, but it then gives you more deserts to use for said abilities. It’s a nicely designed card, with one small hurdle- namely, land tokens are a pretty tough sell. The only cards that make Land tokens right now also make them creatures, because it’s all too easy to run into complicated issues with forgetting which lands are real and which are tokens, accidentally shuffling them in, etc. It’s still a very cool idea, and frankly Desert tokens probably have a lot less issues in this regard than basic land tokens would, but it’s worth pointing out.

Migrating Star Scape by @little-red-rabbit
Okay, nitpicks outta the way first- this land is technically white and blue because of the color indicator, and lands should be colorless- plus, watch the ordering of mana symbols: It should be 2WU. Apart from that, this is a really neat Treasure Planet-esque land! Ships sailing the stars, magical ocean creatures swimming in space- there’s a lot of flavor to plumb there, and this does a really good job of it. See above for my comments on enchantment lands in general. However, in a dedicated enchantment deck, that’s gonna be a LOT of unblockable fish. I think the scale needs to be brought down on that, especially since it’s a land as well, and four mana is not a particularly difficult threshold to meet.
Parotia, Wrenn’s Legacy by @marrinara-sauce
Ahh, the classic Planeswalker land. Something many a designer, including myself, have tried to make work. And frankly? You did a really good job of balancing it to make sure it wouldn’t absolutely take over the game if left unchecked. It works pretty much like a land in almost every scenario, which is something to be commended for, that kind of restraint is not usually seen in these designs. However, by their very nature, Planeswalkers warp the game around them. They change the rules, and give your opponents another “mini player” to consider. As mentioned in the intro, lands are the exact opposite of that. They should be playing a support role, not completely changing how the game is played. Combine that with the absolute feelbad of drawing into multiple of these, or losing your land drop to an aggro deck, means that Planeswalker lands are unfortunately a pretty flawed premise.

Queiscent Summit by @grornt
Interestingly, eight or more lands was the Quandrix subtheme in strixhaven, and I kinda expected this to take on some of that flavor. Regardless, this is a fairly neat manland. It taps for mana, it filters when needed, and it can become a late game beater. I don’t have too much to say about it honestly, since it seems pretty well designed. The one minor detail that slipped by you is that it should have haste in creature form- if this is your eighth land drop, and all of a sudden you have a land you can’t tap for mana right away... it gets confusing. Haste is definitely something this design wants, in the same way that Nissa and her animation spells grant haste so you don’t have to keep track of which lands are summoning sick and which aren’t.

Stallblast Cliff by @dimestoretajic
I definitely have some mixed feelings on this one. I like the idea of a scaling reward based on when you play this, and the basic is a good rider to ensure you’re not just playing this with a bunch of fancy duals. At the same time, though, I think the two/three land threshold is a bit confusing, and this might have wanted the Dwarven Mine templating or something similar. I don’t know, maybe that’s me being too cautious. It’s entirely possible, honestly. Also, it’s worth wondering if a lightning bolt is too efficient for a land. Sure, it’s essentially a mini Valakut, but they have very different thresholds, and four copies of this can go a long way. At minimum, this probably shouldn’t be at common.

Starved Caldera by @bread-into-toast
This is a very cute way to animate a land, and I think a set of these with various “whenever you do this, it becomes a creature” would be kinda neat, especially to juxtapose the deliberate activated ability manlands that are more prevalent. I do think this wants the “triggers only once each turn” templating to make it a little cleaner, but apart from that, this looks pretty good to me. The name is just so evocative and chilling, it’s... whoof. I don’t wanna get on the bad side of whatever is hanging out there. My one other tiny nitpick is that you may wanna have your art and name agree with each other more, since there is a distinct lack of water hanging out in that art. Volcanoes are cool hot though, so I’ll let it slide.

The Font of Creation by @wolkemesser
This one is definitely tough to evaluate. The design you’re going for is a great idea, and you’ve definitely thought to account for corner cases, which is good, but I’ll be frank- this is not a land. This completely changes how the game is played, and forces your opponents to play by those rules as well, which is fine for designs! But this is a high-cost artifact or enchantment kind of design, not one that should be able to be dropped on turn 1 for free. Also with that in mind, trying to evaluate how a card can be broken, and making adjustments to reflect that, is a good way to improve a design. However, the best solution usually isn’t to just tack a new ability on there to prevent that abuse from happening, usually you want to try and reword the original ability to prevent that kind of abuse. Ultimately, this card is just trying to do way too much- the complexity and power level are more appropriate for a more mana-intensive card, and that’s after making some adjustments to clean up the various abilities on here.

Thunderstruck Starscape by @lanabutnotdelray
I really do like how creative people got with untap conditions this week, and this one is no exception. It’s clever, flavorful, and all in all just hits the mark. First things first, blah blah blah enchantment lands, I won’t get into all that again. Second- in a blue-red deck, two devotion seems laughably easy. This is saying “this enters untapped unless you’ve played a spell”, which to be fair is not nothing, but it makes the devotion aspect less necessary. This is me going off of a gut feeling, but I think 3 might be the magic number on this- keep in mind that devotion to two colors is much easier than to one, which is why the dual-color gods have to hit seven instead of five. Likewise, I could see two working for a single color of devotion, but I think for two I wanna see what a threshold of three would look like. Apart from that, love the design.
Tidal Graveyard by @azathoth-the-bored
I do love niche typal lands, they’re fun and often just make for cute designs. This one is pretty standard as far as things go- the costs seem pretty appropriate, especially since Crab is a pretty small type and it’s not known for making a ton of tokens. However, most other typal lands try to lean into the creature type’s mechanical identity. Sometimes there isn’t one, of course, but crabs do have a couple decent identities of high toughness and of milling. Leaning into one of those could have made for an even neater design, since drawing a card just seems like a bit of a generic payoff, as things go.

Undergrowth Tangle by @stupidstupidratcreatures
I am glad that you had the foresight to have the enter unconditionally tapped, since that shows you’re treating mill as the upside it is. Not an incredible upside, granted, but a playset of these will do a whole lot of work in a reanimator shell. Like the delirium design also submitted this week, I would want to see it in action to properly judge, since this could be a big power boost in the right decks.

Unending Sands by @just--a--penguin
Our final desert of the week- interestingly, most of them had to do with exiling from grave instead of sacrificing. It’s an interesting way to make sure they synergize with existing deserts rather than trying to compete in the same space as them, and invokes a really neat hypothetical draft format. Return to Amonkhet perhaps, with deserts as a proper archetype this time? Anything can happen. I don’t have much else to say here- 5 mana for a 4/4 token seems fair, especially when you have to jump through the hoop of getting this into your graveyard first. All in all, it’s a neat design for sure, though maybe the name could have been a biiit less on the nose.

Velis Vel by @sombramainexe
Hoo boy, okay. I don’t want to be too harsh on the commentary for this one, but tribal is a card type that isn’t used anymore for very good reasons. Even a single tribal card is very unlikely, and more likely to be used as a silly callback. However, this makes everything into a tribal card, and doesn’t even give most of them creature types. This would result in a lot of confusion and a LOT of memory issues, as well as some odd corner cases. For example, would Eye of the Storm gain the “Eye” creature type? Some of this could be fixed with templating, but a lot of it is just fundamentally not going to work very well. Also, Tribal lands are a whole mess on their own- even when they originally made tribal, they didn’t wanna mess with it that much. I do think this is an incredibly creative idea, and I applaud you for really pushing the boundaries- because what is this contest for if not to display creativity? However, it’s worth tempering that creativity with design principles- after all, they exist for a reason. This also serves as a great reminder that the hive mind over in our discord is always happy to discuss cards and bounce ideas off of each other if you ever want to refine your design before submission.
And that's that! You are now in the hands of the ever-capable, incorruptible @gollumni- we have five judges once again, so I will see you in five weeks! Farewell!

Development Update - September 2024
Hello folks! Miyazaki checking in with our development updates for the month of September. Between getting our newest art team member onboarded, cooking up some really exciting Fall Quarter concept art, a new color, and a new Mutation, it's been a really creative month for us.
Koa and Sark are hard at work on the back end, creating the systems that power the game. We've got functioning inventories, and Koa was able to have a Beast successfully use a healing potion in the Wild Area! I'm making headway on our intro quest, working in tandem with the art team to create assets to bring our very first area to life.
All in all: some solid progress this month!
Also, for Tumblr users: the August update didn't get posted here (I apologize!), but you can read it here.
Inventory System

This month, we focused on refining Mythaura’s inventory system, with special attention on making starting items function as expected. One of the most exciting additions is the Satchel feature. The satchel begins with 18 slots and can be expanded using non-premium currency, allowing for plenty of space to bring essentials on your adventures.
When preparing to explore, only provisions can be transferred from your stash to the satchel, but along the way, you’ll be able to pick up and store all types of loot. Additionally, the first row of your satchel is now displayed as a hotbar while exploring, enabling quick use of items like the Godspeed Potion, which boosts your movement speed, or a Torch to light your way in the dark.
However, be cautious—if you’re defeated while exploring, you’ll drop your satchel, leaving your items behind. You’ll need to return to the floor you were defeated on to recover it. If you’re defeated again before retrieving your original satchel, those items will be lost for good.

Their reference images were canyons with a beautiful gradient of reds and oranges, along with other geographical features of the American Southwest, such as mesas.
Canyon adds a wonderful richness to the Mythauran color wheel. We encourage you to share your Canyon creations made in the Beast Creator with us!

New Mutation: Celestial
Astrology plays no small part in Mythauran culture, so perhaps it's not such a surprise that the genes of some Beasts born in Mythaura are mutated to show a map of brightly glowing constellations around their bodies.
As a reminder, Mutations are not Specials that can be applied via item. Instead, a Beast can rarely be born with a Mutation or they can rarely be obtained via a late-game boss encounter.

Mythauran Astrology: October
The month of October is referred to as Greenbright's Close, representing the official beginning of autumn and the winding down of greenery as foliage turns gold and red. This month is also associated with the constellation of the Physician and the malachite stone.

Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ Is Getting A 50th Anniversary Box Set

50 years ago today, Pink Floyd walked out of Abbey Road studios, satisfied with their 8 months' worth of work. One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon celebrates its 50th Anniversary. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide. A new deluxe box set has been created to include CD and gatefold vinyl of the newly remastered studio album and Blu-Ray + DVD audio featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. The set also includes an additional new Blu-ray disc of Atmos mix plus CD and LP of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon – Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’. Simultaneously, on 24th March, the CD and first ever vinyl issue of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon – Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’ will be released independently. It was originally recorded in November 1974 as part of the band’s winter tour and this is the first time it will be available as a stand-alone album, with artwork featuring an original 1973 line-drawn cover by George Hardie. The book Pink Floyd – The Dark Side Of The Moon: 50th Anniversary, part of the deluxe box offering, will also be published separately by Thames & Hudson on March 24, 2023, to coincide with the box set release. Curated by photographer Jill Furmanovsky and art directed by Hipgnosis co-founder Aubrey Powell, this LP-sized volume showcases rare and previously unseen photographs taken during The Dark Side Of The Moon tours of 1972-1975 and was created with the involvement of the band members. In celebration of the 50th Anniversary release, Pink Floyd also invite a new generation of animators to enter a competition to create music videos for any of the 10 songs on the iconic 1973 album. Pink Floyd has a rich history of collaborating with animators from the beginning of the band (Ian Emes, Gerald Scarfe, etc.), and in some cases, the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself. The 50th Anniversary will be no exception. The band would like to give all animators an opportunity to present a fresh take on these timeless aural works. Animators can enter up to 10 videos, one per song on the album. A winner will be selected from a panel of experts which will include Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell (Pink Floyd’s creative director), and the BFI (British Film Institute). The deadline for submissions is November 30th 2023. On February 27th, 1973, EMI Records held a press conference for the debut presentation of Pink Floyd’s new album The Dark Side Of The Moon at the London Planetarium. Although the Planetarium dome could only show an array of stars, constellations and images of the cosmos whilst the music played, it was an unprecedented success. Fifty years on, in recognition of the iconic album and with the help of huge strides in technology, an official full dome experience with stunning visuals of the solar system and beyond and played out to 42 minutes of The Dark Side Of The Moon, will be released in Planetariums around the world in March. Contact your local Planetarium for any screening details. The show itself will be divided between the 10 tracks off the album, in chronological order, each having a different theme; some futuristically looking forward and some a retro acknowledgment to Pink Floyd’s visual history, all relating to a time and space experience, embracing up to the minute technology that only a Planetarium can offer. It promises to be immersive; an all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you way beyond the realms of 2D experience. FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: Rays of Light and Darkness by Raymond Turco
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/rays-of-light-and-darkness-by-raymond-turco/
RAYS OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS by Raymond Turco is a profound exploration of shifting moods, personal history, and collective memory. This evocative chapbook of #poems navigates the contrasting landscapes of light and darkness, reflecting the ever-changing #human #experience amidst a background of blending world cultures. From the immigrant struggles depicted in the section “From the Old World to the New” to the whimsical yet poignant reflections in the section “Hearty Laughs and Heavy Sighs,” Turco masterfully captures the ebb and flow of our #emotions. Many of the poems delve into themes of identity, family, and illness, portraying a spectrum of moods that oscillate between hope and despair. The material of the book traverses various settings, from the depths of the sea to the heights of the constellations. Through the vivid stories of characters like the haunting protagonist in “Cosimina,” Turco paints a rich tapestry of moments that highlight both the darkest shadows and the brightest rays of light in the #human #condition.
Raymond Alexander Turco is a poet and playwright born in Hackensack, NJ, USA. He writes poems in English and Italian and has a special affinity for European history, travel, surrealism, magical realism, and absurdism. The author of nine stageplays, he has published his poetry in the Rutherford Red Wheelbarrow, Lothlorien Poetry Journal, and with Bordighera Press, among others.
PRAISE FOR Rays of Light and Darkness by Raymond Turco
In Rays of Light and Darkness, Raymond Turco takes us on an extended journey from myth, through Nature, which he has an omnipresent love for, across many countries (“Prague is the city of the future, of the past”) into his soul. His knowledge is overarching. In one poem he goes from Foucault to Woody Allen, not missing a beat. He delineates the consciousness of those around him — Grandfather, Grandmother, and so on – and in “The Shepherd of Many Turns”, the speaker says that when he dies, he will reanimate as plants, animals and dust. “In the end – we are all alone on a Sunday stroll.” Turco has penned a brilliant collection of words!
–Ron Kolm, contributing editor of Sensitive Skin, author of The Bookstore Book: A Memoir (Pink Trees Press, 2023)
Raymond Turco‘ s poetry is rooted in Italian and Italian-American culture and moves from poems of family, immigrant experience, and love to the wider world of Italian cities and culture. They are imbued with a deep existential loneliness. A number of them end with surprising bursts of passion and self-revelation. One of the best of them is “Cosimina”, with its insight into the suffering of its lonely heroine: “And I wonder if I may ever have the courage to ask in a silent room, ‘When is dinner coming ’round?’” Turco also has a gift for dramatic immediacy… [and has the] ability to create a dramatic situation and carry it through, [reaching] beyond the personal lyric with the use of myth.
–Michael Graves, Preparing the Apology (Nirala Publications, 2021)
Raymond Turco’s poetry chapbook, Rays of Light and Darkness, takes you on a marvelous journey “from the Old World to the New” where this journey begins in rich imagery and riveting, poetic storytelling verse. The poem “Cosimina” will tug at your heart strings (“when is dinner coming ‘round”) while heaviness and lightness can be felt in “Youth Left Out in the Rain” and “Pseudobulbar and Jelly” respectively. This poetic journey ends in places of the heart while dwelling in wonderful cities, countrysides and lands in the section “The Belpaese and Beyond.” Lovely are the words of this poetry chapbook.

1 7 and 13 for the writer asks!
thank you so much for the ask!!! apologies for the delayed response!!
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
oooh i have a really hard time writing action scenes. like, anything in same stars is a trial to write bc i just think, ok, the action happens, let's move on. because what's fun in one medium (a first-person shooter video game) can be really hard to translate into another (a longform fic about my OC, Miranda, who i am down to talk about at any and all hours). just... any long-form action scene.
this will probably not be a surprise, but it's easy (well, easier) for me to write dialogue (witty banter? sign me up!!!!) in most any form. i also love a good angst with a happy ending.
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
YES YES YES YES THANK YOU FOR THIS YES!!!!!! these will all be about my current wip that i am working on/publishing, i wish to be found. these bullet points below may have some mild spoilers, so the rest of this answer is below the cut!!!!
though this is an au of you've got mail, i changed most everything but the central premise because i don't actually like the second half of the movie that much anymore.
this essentially follows the lore history that i set up in the world will follow after, where yamaguchi and tsukishima don't meet until adulthood. tsukishima's backstory is the same as it is in that au, and yamaguchi's is changed to make it so he was born and raised in tokyo working for his mother's bookstore.
in the world will follow after, yamaguchi mentions off-handedly that he wants to tattoo his right arm with constellations as well. in i wish to be found, a slightly older yamaguchi has actually gotten all of the tattoos he details wanting in that fic.
originally, there was going to be more kagehina, but i chose to cut them in order to focus more on the tsukkiyama, kuroken, and bokuaka storylines.
if yamaguchi and tsukishima are elizabeth and darcy from pride and prejudice, kenma and kuroo are anne and wentworth from persuasion. these are parallels i want to delve into more in a kuroken-specific side story.
speaking of storylines, i got the name for yamaguchi's store and for the bookends company name from fantasynamegenerators. emily is a godsend. their story - that suga was a bookends competition winner that got together with his assigned editor - is mentioned in passing for backstory.
i briefly considered adding a daisuga getting-together subplot, but decided against it for the same reasons as reducing the amount of kagehina.
i look up and save the floor plans/zillow listings for every home location in my stories.
suga's character traits/info in my draft doc is literally just
in the final scene of chapter 1, tsukishima refers to his meeting about the next bookends location as "business as usual." in chapter 6, yamaguchi uses the same phrase during their fight.
the café fight was the first scene i wrote for this story.
tsukishima's message to yamaguchi, "find me when you're ready," is a direct homage to the title, "i wish to be found."
this is a slight spoiler for the chapter i haven't posted yet, but the fantasy world tsukishima creates for his bookends submission is the same homebrew world i created for a D&D campaign that fizzled out. the characters he uses are all NPCs i made for that campaign, too.
i mentioned this in some comment replies, but suga has 100% written, posted, and received commissions from volleyball players to write volleyball RPF. but he only writes about folks who have said they don't care about it. it is the worst-kept secret in the league. everyone thinks miya has read them all, but he swears he hasn't. sakusa has read them all. suna has performed multiple live readings at volleyball parties.
though not all songs i put on my writing playlists can make it into the fic, three that i'm actually bummed i probably won't be able to include are "bruises" by train ft. ashley monroe, "falling slowly" by glen hansard and marketa irglova, and "closer" by joey contreras and brian russel carey.
while this is an au of you've got mail and there are a ton of references to pride and prejudice, this story also ended up having a lot of parallels with the story/musical daddy long legs. both feature characters who fall in love over exchanged messages, with one person aware of who the other is and the other not. i highly recommend listening to it!! yamaguchi references the lyrics to one song, "i have torn you from my heart" ("yes, you've got your freedom, daddy / but you don't have me") when he muses on tsukki's absence in his life ("I have the store. But I don’t have you.") those same lyrics were originally the chapter title for chapter 6.
i also reference the song "the man i'll never be" when tsukishima realizes that yama and yamaguchi are the same person, thinking, "And yet. And yet. Kei could think of nothing more cruel or unkind than leaving Yamaguchi sitting there, alone, waiting for the version of himself Kei pretended to be."
the green sweater yamaguchi wears when he meets tsukishima at bookends is the same one he wears to meet tsukishima in the coffee shop in the world will follow after.
the bokuaka theme for this fic is "stranger" by riley roth.
the kuroken themes for this fic are "right where you left me" and "this love" by taylor swift
tsukkiyama have a theme, but that will be revealed in the epilogue!!!!
if you're still reading this i love you!!!!
