us all referring to rick riordan as “uncle rick” is actually the most fitting thing ever. because you know how everyone has that uncle who they love so much but also just get so annoyed with sometimes? like personally, i adore both my uncles because they’re both so sweet and absolutely hilarious. they’re family! i always can’t wait to see them. but then the fam and i are with one of them, smiling and joking around, and he’ll do/say something that’s… horrendous. like, are you kidding me right now? and then the fam and i are all awkwardly looking around at each other thinking the same thing: did he just say that? or, jesus why the fuck would he do that? so then i’ll be annoyed with him for a bit. but also, he’ll be making everyone laugh and being the uncle i know and love 2 minutes later.
anyway, that’s how i feel reading rick’s books lately. it’s just constant “uncle rick i love and adore you so much and you’re so silly and amazing and— wait… what was that?” 😭😭

dsmp is still SO insane to me. still not completely convinced it wasn't a social experiment. it is something that can never be replicated again due to the really specific circumstances that attributed to it's creation and popularity
#the combination of everyone being inside due to the pandemic#the community giving everyone a space to connect#in a time where loneliness and mental health was reaching an all time high especially among youth#like idk. even after everything and a handful of ccs being revealed to be horrible shitbags#the dsmp will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart.#a story told in a medium no one has really explored before#the unique fantasy setting......the three life system allowing for more high stakes moments since there a character#could die multiple times to raise stakes#the emphasis placed on familial and platonic dynamics and how THEY can be just as complex and entertaining to watch/read abt like /r ships#the fandom revolutionizing gen fics and making a familial relationship reach the TOP OF AO3 STATS ONE YEAR???? insanity.#also just the ppl.#the amount of talented musicians and artists and writers and editors and all the ppl who lovingly transcripted and compiled lore streams#LIKE UGH.#im so emo about it#unfiltered queer representation bcuz#the story wasnt washed down by a corporation as it was given directly from the storytellers to the audience#the multiple povs allowing ppl to experience the same story in completely different ways#excellent depictions of the effects of mental illness/ptsd and 'imperfect' abuse survivors#ctommy my beloved#LIKE SIGH. Not to be a bitch but if Watcher wanted more money maybe they should of produced more then 1 project a month
#watcher#I love watcher#been watching them since high school and I’m now considering a PhD they were my entire youth#but the reason drop out works is because they have so many shows#with many many comedians#I was always worried about how big watcher tried to get straight off the bat#I’m not saying getting an office in California with multiple members of staff is bad for a production company#but from their first watcher vid they seems to have many members off staff that realistically could have been just sound/camera & editors#then grown from that#there is realistically only 2 members of talents then recurring guests which is not enough for a full fledged subscription platform

As someone who watched last night’s episode, you had the right idea to stop.
Why’s it so bad
Because Tim Minear is a power-drunk hack.
#lincoln answers things#I was deeply concerned and upset at the end of season seven but wow the bar was on the floor and he still dug under it#back in earlier seasons he had good writers who could limit or make something good out of his crazier ideas#but it's clear that two things have gone to his head: 1. how popular the show is#2. FOX not allowing Buddie canon and probably also not letting him do other things he wanted (the network REALLY jerked them around)#2.5. going to LS and doing whatever the hell he wanted there and instead of learning from the bad response and shit ratings#letting the absolute power get to him and make the resentment towards FOX re: OG even worse#so when he hopped over to ABC he stopped listening to anyone and just went power-mad and abandoned any restraint he previously exhibited#and his talent and skill are actually not good enough to keep up with his ego (frankly nobody's is enough)#(but some people are skilled and talented enough that it can cover for quite a long time or cover most of it and Tim is not one of them)#every writer/artist/creator needs someone to tell them 'no' sometimes#everyone needs parameters and to be checked#you will sometimes have bad ideas or bad impulses that's just being human#and the moment you stop listening to people (like firing your editors *cough* Anne Rice *cough*) you're fucking doomed#some people are just doomed faster and harder than others and Tim was doomed immediately because again:#his skill and talent are not nearly enough to cover even a little bit he is a mediocre white man who fell upwards like so many of them#and now that he's let the power get to him we are all - and more importantly in my mind his EMPLOYEES are all -#suffering the consequences of that#hey Tim remember how you said repeatedly that you regretted killing off Shannon so soon and she wasn't even a main?#you think you would've recalled that before making the stupidest possible writing decision#it's been a while since I've seen someone kill their show in one (1) choice#congrats you stand among giants like Game of Thrones and HIMYM#anyway as silly as this might be I am honestly in very deep pain over this#I wasn't in a great place to start because of other shit going on but. yeah.#so I'm trying not to talk about it much which means if I ignore any tags asks comments etc that's why#but sometimes the rage takes over and I can't help myself so!
