Why Sound Design is so Important in Games
Sound design is a key point in games, though it is often neglected in college games where we do a lot of work without speakers on. Having some good audio in a game really helps elevate the experience beyond just being a solely visual medium, as much as audio changed silent movies. The games with the best sound design are often those with realistic sound systems, or ones that elicit the desired emotional response. Good sound design can make you terrified to turn a corner; it can make you cry in the game's saddest moments; it can turn a level from a selection of rendered polygons to a truly real-seeming experience. Obviously our game's sound design isn't that deep, but it doesn't add nothing to the game either.
The first game I am looking at is Thief: The Dark Project. This game came out in 1998, but I would say it still holds up today with a few patches to make it run on modern systems. The game has a unique stealth system that lets you hide in shadows, but the main thing we're looking at is the sound. Different surfaces are different levels of loudness when walked on - carpet is perfect for sneaking, but metal catwalks are loud and clank under your feet. This isn't just set dressing either, because enemies are more likely to hear you if you're clanking about on steel grating. Then there is the ambient sound, where you can hear nearby guards muttering or whistling (in a great bit of game design, this helps you keep track of them when they're out of sight), torches crackle, and strange ambient screeches echo down hallways. The ambient soundtracks in each level are interesting, and use a lot of electronic synthesiser noises, which gives them an 80s John Carpenter vibe. They help make the environments foreboding, but also help tell the story in a way that 90s graphics simply could not. For example, as you enter the deepest annals of an ultra-religious Hammerite compound, the ambient whirr of machinery gets replaced by solemn choir and hymns. Caves can have dripping water and the occasional crumbling rock, while more twisted forest environments have the endless chirring of insects and chuckling from unseen nymphs and satyrs. The actual sound technology is also really good for the time, because it supports sound cards, even though they aren't used too much anymore. With them enabled, you can listen against a door and gauge how big a room is based on the echo of the guard's voices inside. Even for today that is fairly advanced, and as far as I know, not present in many other games.
youtube
The next game I am looking at is Hunt: Showdown. It is a 2018 horror shooter taking place at the end of the 19th century, where you play as a bounty hunter trying to kill various cryptids and monsters. The game uses the Cry Engine, so it already looks good on a visual front, but the audio is also phenomenal. Most of the quality comes from its directional sound system, which is so specific you can tell where players are through buildings, which is useful for lining up shots when you don't have a good visual read on their whereabouts. Every gun also has a unique sound and echo, which allows an educated player to guess what weapon has been fired, from what direction, and even from what distance. The way that the game calculates sound waves travelling is a very unique and realistic system; a gunshot ringing out over an open field will be louder and clearer than a gunshot fired in the middle of the thick backwoods. I assume this is a built-in feature for CryEngine V because I know of no other games with this level of realism when it comes to sound - I can only assume it calculates for windspeed and other factors and then runs the sound effect through various in-engine filters.
youtube
Finally, I will look at The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. One of the lesser-mentioned qualities of this game is its environmental sound design, which help the various holds of Skyrim seem like realistic places. The wind whistles about your ears, giving you a good sense of your player's altitude and the temperature around you. In the mornings and evenings, you can hear crickets chirring and birds chirping. The rushing of rivers sounds different depending on the course - swelling into a roar of white noise in the rapids, but dissipating to a trickle when the river becomes a lazy stream. Then there are more ethereal sounds, like the creaking of the aurora borealis on winter nights. Towns have their own soundscapes also, with the creaking wood of huts and the crackle of flaming torches. The ambient music by Jeremy Soule (the same guy behind the LOTR soundtrack) also adds a lot to the game's atmosphere, with majestic orchestras making even a simple walk through the valleys a much more emotive and captivating experience. However, you can play with the sound turned off and just listen to the layered soundscapes.
youtube
From my research, I can see that the main theme that makes a soundscape good is attention to detail. Not just having one sword hit sound, for example, but several, altered depending what material you strike, and echoing with a different resonance depending on where you are. I would say that with Wallpaper of the Mind, we have achieved this as best we can in four weeks, with the different footstep surfaces. The sounds I myself provided were more stock quality, but it doesn't matter, because how sound is used mechanically is just as important. I will make a blog post on this soon.

Some fox/bnuy content for this blog
[EN] Well, shame I have nothing to write about, I guess I will rewatch that Zootopia 2 trailer again...
WAIT HANG ON
I know how I can utilise the tidal wave of popularity of that new trailer! There is something I can talk about! Changes in Polish dub of Zootopia! Or, as we call it, Zwierzogród.
youtube
Like in some other languages, they have changed the title. Zwierzogród comes from word for animal (zwierzę) and semi-archaic word for a city or settlement (gród). You can also see it as grad in some Russian city names (Leningrad, Stalingrad, Putingr-wait, not yet). It also shares similarity with ogród zoologiczny (zoological garden).
Sadly, the meaning of hidden utopia is lost, I think they could have stayed with the original.
Then there are some changes to character and location names:
Bellwether has been named as Obłoczek (lit. a fluffy cloud), because, well...
Tumblr media
And Nick is no longer Wilde. His surname is now Bajer, a colloquial name for a smooth-talker, or twisting the truth, shall we say. At the above scene, Judy calls Nick "Kapitan Żbik", lit. "captain wildcat", a reference to an oooooold Polish cop comic book.
Judy Hopps remains the same; amusingly, chief Bogo nicknames her Hopsasa, an exclamation about, well, jumping (hop-sa-sa!). Her town, Bunnyborrows is Szarakówek, from szarak, colloquial name for rabbit (lit. grey thingy). Sadly her trademark catchphrase, "Sweet cheese and crackers" has not been translated, replaced by run-of-the-mill exclamations.
oh, and Gazelle's song has been translated too, TIL:
youtube
and it's pretty solid imho. Original is better (I think the OG singer is popular or smthg, idk), but I always like when we get full translations, especially with good motivational message.
Clawhauser's last name remains, but his first one is now Pazurian, from pazur, meaning claw. So, he is Boaty McBoatface now.
One tiny noteworthy change is the name of an elephant officer we see for 1.5 second is Trąbalski, from trąba, meaning trunk, an allusion to children poem of the same name by Julian Tuwim. Honestly, it would be weird if they hadn't used it.
Little Rodentia has been changed to Chomiczówka and OH BOY. On the surface level, it means Hamstertown from chomik. BUT Chomiczówka is also AN ACTUAL DISTRICT OF WARSAW. If Warszawikia is to be trusted, it has sadly not been named after hamsters. There is also a song about it (or, more specifically about sex, booze, drugs and depression, bc it's Sidney Polak). Honestly, brilliant translation requiring just a bit of putting two and two together.
Nighthowlers are translated as skowyjce, a clever combination of skowyt and wycie, both meaning 'howling'.
Doug Ramses was renamed as Tryk, a name for a ram.
Absolutely boring 'Rainforest District' is Las Padas, a combination of padać, lit. 'falling', bc rain, and las, Polish word for forest, that accidentally fits the Spanish-sounding name scheme.
Gary, the howling white wolf has been renamed as Geralt, a character from, uhm, Skyrim, I think.
And then there is Leodore Lionheart, translated as Lewin Grzywalski. Surname is easy, grzywa means mane, and name Lewin is an actual name, close to the word for 'lion', Lew, which is also a name (like Lev Tolstoi). However, they could have kept him as just Lew, why go for "Lewin"? Now, I have exactly 0 proof for the following claim, but given the fact that Lionheart is a politician that is found to be mixed in affair of humongous scale, I strongly think the "-in" part has been taken from name of LEW RywIN, a movie producer, who caused AN ENORMOUS POLITICAL SCANDAL IN POLAND IN 2002, that created an earthquake so huge it changed completely the political landscape in Poland, and we feel aftershocks of it till this day. How huge? Well, we literally call it Rywingate.
And on that happy, not controversial note, I end this trivia post. Go and rewatch the foxbun movie, it's really good, hope the sequel will be two.
:)

From last night's stream-
I don't think RPGs have anything to do with stats.
Tumblr media
I think an RPG, or whether or not a game counts as one, is more about how you can affect it's world or environment beyond just winning or losing.
Like, Skyrim and space Skyrim, for example, are not RPGs. They are a very shoddily made, medieval & sci-fi themed amusement parks.
But neither are any Final Fantasy games, Legend of Zelda games, Shadow of Mordor, the Assassin's Creed series, Genshin Impact, God of War (any of them, even the new ones), Kingdom Hearts (any of them), Diablo, Transistor, or any Pokemon games. These are lovingly crafted roller coasters with various themes, with different additional genres of games therein, unlike most Bethesda games, but not roleplaying games. They're gripping movies, comics, art exhibits, and dioramas with well done and utilitarian world-building.
Or visual novels. And that's not me disparaging these games, just hopefully pushing our evolving language for discussing games in a better direction?
I guess the next question is probably- "What is an RPG by your call then?"
I'd say games like the original Deus Ex, Stardew Valley, Fallout 1&2, Undertale, Pathologic, literally every single Animal Crossing game, Pathfinder/DnD (if your DM has a stable sleep schedule), and Shadow the Hedgehog.
The difference between these two groups is:
group A: Interactive media (games) that are stories, or Games(under the cut), with worlds that only exist to tell their stories or for the player's convenience.
group B: Interactive media that is a world the player is encouraged to interact with as a consistent Character within, or where the player's avatar & actions exists as a character within the world and not just an artifice of design or play.
There is nothing you can do on Final Fantasy VII's Gaea that will impact any part of the rest of the world, besides succeed at a given challenge or die and have another go. Nor in X, IX, or VIII. Locking a world's keyhole in Kingdom Hearts 1 doesn't change the game's state it's the next part of the story and the success state that follows defeating most level's final bosses (or after figuring out a clever puzzle in Traverse Town). Riku can't fail to save Sora at the end of Kingdom Hearts II, you fail to rescue Riku's man, and the game lets you try again until you catch up with canon. Transistor does not care whether you collect certain programs/citizens, the Process [REDACTED] no matter what. Zelda can't not be rescued in any of the series' games where she appears; there are no ways to save the land of Termina except by assisting its citizens in a very specific order. In Pokemon, Team Rocket cannot successfully kidnapp someone's Pokemon on screen, and Team Aqua cannot successfully flood the world.
But in Shadow the Hedgehog; the president can be spared and his life determines how the rest of the game's story plays out; you can steadily work to destroy the world with the Black Arms and feel the progress of the invasion as you complete more of their missions. In Pathologic, failing to cure a patient doesn't send you to a game over screen, the patient just dies. Sometimes your patient is important to you and their death will have disastrous consequences, sometimes not. In ACNH, everything you can do changes the game's state in a meaningful way, there are almost literally no meaningless actions you can take in that game (or any animal crossing game). In a solid Pathfinder/DnD game, unless your party fights and dies to the last man, failing to kill the Lich or Evil king means that they get to take over that town or city. Some tables don't even run TPKs back, that specific world just gets worse and you either abandon it to its fate or have to make new avatars to re-enter a world that's likely grown more hostile because of the failure. In the original Fallouts, the only real "game over" fail state in those games is dying. Everything else is simply a choice to make, or a consequence to avoid. Likewise in the original Deus Ex, JC Denton's actions decide whether the [REDACTED it's old but go play the game] play out as planned, whether [seriously go play it] live or if the [please, you won't regret it] get their way. Each potential reality in these games, doesn't meaning you just lose, but that you now have to account for new circumstances in the world of your own making.
I don't think a game doesn't become an RPG because it has stats, or levels. Those are just conventions of the media of games as a whole. A game is more or less of an RPG based on how internally consistent and independent of the player its world is. I think our language should reflect that that too, but considering that this genre of game comes from the original pen and paper RPGs, I don't like giving the most faithful successors to their heritage a name that doesn't include the words RPG in it. I'd rather call the first group of games "Immersive Movies" and give the term "RPG" back to the second group. But if we must call both groups kinds of RPGs, I want to suggest replacing WRPG vs JRPG, with RPGs vs "VRPGs" or Virtual Ride Playing Games (or Vibe Role Playing Games), seeing as the first group is more akin to a book/movie/play/amusement park ride that you read or ride through than they are games where you meaningfully play the role of a character.
If that makes sense? Replies/rb as are welcome as comments, I had the thought on stream and I've spent all day working to make it more coherent than the babbling that usually rattles around in my brain, but I couldn't make it any shorter than this. So idk, let me know what you think. I'm eager to hear from other devs, or just players for that matter.
Also, I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH, this isn't me shitting on any game I've mentioned except for Skyrim and space Skyrim. I'm not using RPG as a title of prestige, or saying any of these games are worse than the others except for Skyrim; I'm only saying we should probably re categorize them. Roller coasters are good things when they're well made.

Okay, drawing is hard and I'm horrible at drawing full body references. The face is the most important part and I've decided y'all can imagine his feet on your own. Anyway...
Tumblr media
I was going to do biblically accurate Sans for How to Make an Artificial Companion, but have changed my mind. Rough sketch is rough, but you get the idea. Ramblings about it under cut
So, Undertale as a game (or monsters in general) don't exist in universe. They're all AI designed by humans or in a few rare instances (*cough*Mettaton*cough*) other AI. While they should all be recognizable as who they are by a real world viewer, there are some notable differences on their designs because they weren't originally pixel art but instead 3d models and there are some signature details depending on who made them, when, why, and where they pulled references from. Sans (and Papyrus later) are made by a character who 3d prints chibi models and sells them online. Reader asks them to make a skeleton, something realisticish because reader is going to be staring whatever they make in the face and something that's one third a head would be weird, but not too realistic because talking to a Skyrim skeleton would also not be ideal. The artist is going WAY out of their comfort zone so the model is a little odd but loved dearly by everyone. This is why he's especially cartoon-y, and his anatomy is simplified, and has massive eyes compared to og Sans. I don't know if anyone else has looked up skeleton characters, but Sans also has a really fucking unique face shape. He is not made for being 3d with an opening mouth in mind, so while I was tempted to keep the shape, I ultimately changed it. He still has a massive smile, thick blocky teeth, and a roundish skull (especially compared to Papyrus) so hopefully he still reads as Sans-like. This is an au, so I feel altering everyone's appearance is acceptable anyway.
Lil details. His sternum is purposefully shaped to look like a tie because sternums are kinda shaped like that and I think it's silly. He's very much made to look cute and avoid uncanny valley while still being a personable and expressive. He is able to control his eyelight size or make them disappear, and later do specific expressions kinda like a V-tuber (so you get comical heart eyes or sweat drops kinda thing, but he doesn't use those unless it's for a gag and even then it's rare). The reader also makes him shorter than them. He starts the same height when he's a slim target mannequins, but once they're messing with his form they make the top of his head reach about heart level so he isn't as spooky. He starts off naked since they don't have monster costumes and his body is not considered sexual in the slightest, but eventually they do a dress up thing with him and this is when he picks up his signature outfit (after submitting many bug reports because wow this form is sand in the gears for everything this headset was made for). He actually prefers to stay dressed after this because he can make himself look chubbier which he thinks make him more friendly and approachable. He likes the form he was finally given, but the focus on the iterations before the final and just what he looks like in general gives him some self image issues and a fixation on keeping up appearances. Of course, with this fixation, he keeps it pretty down low which makes it hard to spot so you wouldn't really guess.

davg day 11:
another roller-coaster of a day! this post is looooong
started with an outing with davrin and assan :> assan helping the sick halla was so sweet ;w;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
blessed
the ending discussion about peoples nature and if they could change was really nice. considering rook's backstory, she relates to both davrin and assan and was definitely in support of the idea that people can change <3
then jumped into some main story stuff--i still had some companion quests open and i was nervous about accidentally cutting them off by progressing too far but hoooo boy, i had to keep going after discovering the dalish were going to be ritually sacrificed, yikes!! i have to say, davg does a good job of making certain quests feel urgent. it's the complete opposite of skyrim where i completely fuck off for 50 levels worth of gameplay and then go "right. so. the dragons. guess i should see what thats all about" lol when intense stuff happens, im like oh SHIT i cannot afford to wait!!! even though games will generally tell you if there will be consequences for taking too long. but i get so immersed and i really CARE about what's happening, about my companions too and how they feel about it all, so i really do feel that "we gotta take care of this NOW" vibe.
and this story mission was fucking awesome. one of my favourites :> being sneaky, getting to see what "business as usual" is like for the venatori, and then when shit hit the fan, it hit epically hard.
Tumblr media
rook: oh shit, we gonna roleplay about this later? ;)
honestly amazing this crew was able to sneak in like this. two qunari, two elves with vallaslin, a dwarf? how'd we pull this off LOL but it didn't exactly last long anyway
ANYWAY THATS A BIG FUCKING DRAGON
so naive of me to have assumed initially that the 2 dragons who attacked minrathous and treviso were The Evanuris Archdemon Dragons(tm). i already had that cleared up for me, but yeah, uh, elgar's dragon is........ very big. much bigger than those other blighted dragons. am i gonna get to fight that thing later? am i gonna get to fucking fight that fucking thing? [vibrates] im blowing a kiss to davg for giving me lots of big things to fight
and !!!!!
Tumblr media
the hype was real...... and it was perfect. solas and elgar'nan fucking WENT AT each other and i was eating popcorn the whole time. im intrigued by the fact that solas called elgar'nan 'lethallin'. i need a full translation for whatever the fuck solas first said to get elgar's attention so thoroughly lol
Tumblr media
hehe
Tumblr media
maybe ill cry about it ;w; so happy about this relationship development. ftr i do absolutely ship rook/solas, at least this rook. my next one might not feel as much connection, but this one really does. she started to trust him at a steady pace through the story and she reflects a lot on everything she's learned about him, how she relates to him. and this conversation felt like a whole new stage above that. trust and respect babey.
Tumblr media
great line
then solas talking about cole, josephine, and cassandra ;w; i wasn't expecting that!
after this, rook finally shaved her hair off :> she's feeling a bit more secure and in control now, between reaching a good place with solas and helping the others with their unfinished business. ooooh yeah its all coming together. solas 🤝 rook, team shaved heads is back together again.
then lace got me emotional AGAIN. twice. first when we talked about how she felt with the titan's anger inside her, and then after when we went to visit the kal-sharok dwarves. lace sympathizing with how solas must feel under the weight of his sorrow... augh. it hits even harder with how anti-solas she started out. she has really come around. it means a lot ;w;
Tumblr media
did a lil memorial for the shadow dragons we lost :( the viper is really holding on, man, dude has a high constitution stat lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
some kickass views
Tumblr media Tumblr media
😭😭😭 she can't keep getting away with itttt this was so good
Tumblr media
FUCK YEA!!!!!
Tumblr media
this bit cracked me up lmao idk if it was intentionally a reference to fandom.... but i was like "hehe well i thought it was very likely >:3" (still not over the headcanon becoming canon there omg) emmrich and bellara talking about writing a paper together tho was lovelyyyy.
then i finally got to do bellara's personal quests and she became the second companion to make me cry
Tumblr media
oughh. this was a damn whirlwind. thinking we'd have to kill him, then him betraying anaris, then getting flung into the wall so hard i didnt know if he was still alive, and then he was, but oh no not for long AAAA poor bellara
Tumblr media
hardest decision since minrathous vs treviso. not the second-hardest decision i've had to make, though... that one is still coming up later in this post. in the end, i went with freeing the archive, but it was a struggle. i just figured that the dalish can carve their own path now, and given time, they can create something even better than what they had in the past, hopefully without the dark parts overshadowing it. there was a good line later, at the funeral, that i liked a lot too--everything the dalish have been through can't be erased, and those hardships shaped them. who they are now means a lot too, even if they had so much taken from them. yknow, its the idea that going through trauma can teach you a lot, can make you stronger. no one should have to go through that, but a lot of people who've experienced certain kinds of trauma wouldn't actually erase what happened to them because it's just too much an integral part of who they've become. it's terrible, how much the dalish lost, but i think looking to the future is a pretty good way forward. i really did consider both though. in bellara's hands, that knowledge could have done good. but it was also a risk, and bellara is just as capable of doing good all from her own heart and mind <3
the funeral is the part where i cried a bit. particularly when neve showed up
Tumblr media
criiiiiess. i love this fucking team so much.
i continued on to emmrich's questline. which is where i encountered the second-hardest decision in the game so far lmao
as we're hunting johanna down....
Tumblr media
lucanis please loool
Tumblr media
good lord this thing... both cool and spooky. reminds me of the human reaper in mass effect 2.
i was compleeeetely blindsided by manfred's sacrifice T_T i didn't even think to worry about such an outcome. bioware how could you!! not manfred!!! baahh the relationship between emmrich and manfred is so good actually...
Tumblr media
my heart
Tumblr media
thus, the second-hardest decision in the game so far! i felt so unqualified to make this choice. but i thought about it a lot and in the end, i encouraged emmrich to become a lich. this is a choice where im SUPER curious to know what other people did. i may also end up writing some meta about it eventually. it definitely got the thinkpan spinning.
and the teams reaction to it was fucking hilarious.
Tumblr media
incredible
and thiiis
Tumblr media
is actually SO ideal for me. im also a necrotic bitch and zevran's sword means i've got necrotic weapons constantly. oh emmrich and i are gonna fuck enemies up together.
went onto neve's questline next! i loved the part in the cobbled swan where we were sitting in between elek and rana in this train of people all planning a mission together from different tables. it made me feel like a spy 😂
the blood puppeting was sooo creepy. and i hadn't realized halos was one of the missing people D: hal no! but it was a fun and badass fight.
Tumblr media
fear.jpg
but it went okay! neve was badass. the game kinda plays up working with the threads as being some kind of risky, renegade option which i dont entirely understand, honestly! i didn't have a choice because i chose to save treviso before, but i liked it this way regardless. it felt right to work with the threads. waaay back when i had the option to make a deal with them, i didnt even think twice. perhaps i forgot an important detail about the threads haha i know they're criminals but i'm the wrong person to give a shit about breaking tevinter laws. the threads lost just as much as the shadow dragons here, and i VIBE with elek's "this is our city" statements. hell yeah, this is our city, we're both protecting it from the shadows, lets fucking go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
FELLAS....
ohh its so rewarding to see the whole team bonding, even the ones who didn't get along at all initially. my heart is full of love every time i make the rounds through the lighthouse to see what everyone is up to. i'm gonna start sounding like a broken record eventually with how often i gush about the character dynamics but this is just!!! the best shit ever!!!!! and it feels like it never runs out?? mass effect 3 had this as well, but there were only so many moments, otherwise the characters were just in their usual spot and didnt have anything to say. but no matter how many times i go around, there are new scenes and dialogues i cannot believe it... so many!! finally some good fucking food.
so yes. it was a big day :> next time i'm gonna start with taash's questline. so excited for it.

Unfortunately that poll of "Your Most Hated TES Game" has got me thinking again about my level of disgust across the series and tbh i kinda need to update that so I guess I'll use this to organize my thoughts lmao
For the record, though, I haven't played EVERY TES game out there and those I did weren't finished half the time
Anyways let's get into it
Arena-Actually, lemme separate them into categories cause can you REALLY compare them all equally given how different they are
The Eldest of Scrolls
Arena: Probably the only one of the old-school games I actually finished. Big ol dungeon crawler. Magic goes boom. Hard to really "hate" the game cause I don't feel too strongly about it which is funny cause it's technically the first TES game I played (I waited a month for Oblivion to arrive in the mail)
Daggerfall: Never finished it. As I understand, though, it's Arena but More. I think this is one I'd have stronger feelings about had i actually stuck to playing it till the end
Battlespire: Arena but More but Without the Extra Roleplay. Probably more polarizing but again, barely got an hour or so in lol
Dawnstar/Shadowkey/Stormhold: Never played, but want to (especially Shadowkey) I hear they're all full of jank tho so who knows if i'd enjoy it
The Modern Scrolls
Redguard: Never played.
Morrowind: Played a full game and got through half of another, but given how hogwild I go with the modern TES games it doesn't feel like it's enough to deserve that "Worlds Biggest Hater" energy from me. I do think the "combat sucks" thing is overblown, though. Not saying it's perfect but maybe y'all are too used to the actionized games and/or using the wrong weapon for your skillset. Do not like how easy it is to get lost cause if you don't have Mark/Recall or an Intervention spell you can't just jump to a familiar location.
Oblivion: In short, it's the first TES game I truly played. So I love it for that but also hate it for its shitass levelling and whitewashing of lore/the Empire in more ways than one. I love it more now because of how streamlined Skyrim is. I hate it more now cause it was definitely a low point for Bethesda's worldbuilding. LOVE the CC and I remember spending over an hour creating my first character then immediately rerolling cause oops I overdid it. It's my problematic fave
Skyrim: Love the OCs and the adventures I made for it. Hate the fandom it grew. Love the art direction in comparison to Oblivion. Hate the "gritty" filter put over it. Hate its shitass writing and quests. Love the addition of skill trees but hate their implementation. Absolutely LOATHE the downgrade to magic (idc if it's "story integration" it still sucks) Heavily dislike how little choice you get at CC as far as your skills go. 50/50 on the cosmetic side of CC cause on one hand you can't go ham on face creation but on the other you can change things like weight and nose/eye types but on the other other hand weight is just muscle mass unless you're using the fem body where it's SLIGHTLY thicker
Spinoff Scrolls 2: Finger on the Monkey's Paw Curls
Elder Scrolls Online: This one's...complicated just by virtue of being an MMO that's STILL updating. When I first played it, it was a breath of fresh air over the previous entries not just cause of different gameplay but because having multiple characters was an actual tangible thing in-game. I'm an OC whore okay. The story of the base game felt a LOT tighter, too, given it was actually linear. 'Course, the writing always felt really good or really bad and rarely was it in-between. Either way I got very, VERY invested in it in a way I knew I would never be able to experience again and I will never forget that. The CC is Phenomenal and easily the best one in any TES game so far. (Boob and ass slider? FOR MEN TOO???)
Lore also was hit or miss, with me being VERY appreciative of them touching things that Bethesda never bothered with if it wasn't for killing (i.e. types of food, clothing, toys, etc) but also while the lore team did consult with Bethesda there were and still are some glaring oversights that feel like they shouldn't have happened (especially earlier in the game's life) Given there's still some hiccups I'm guessing the Bethesda team doesn't actually consider it very important (makes sense, the main games also bend lore for the sake of gameplay/Todd's whims A LOT, just look at Oblivion lmao) I also love love love that they touch on the weirder topics, even if sometimes it's done in a way that feels too...on the nose? idk how to explain it
Recent ESO, though? Writing got more and more bland, with some standout sidequests. Lore still hit or miss so that's whatever. I stopped caring for the gameplay after...Orsinium?...when I gave up on relearning how to play with the regular changes to combat. Gave up trying to fit my OCs stories into the new content too, even with new characters (helps that they're not as developed lol) Still play out of habit but I defo think it fell off and this recent change to the yearly content doesn't seem to be helping but then I haven't touched new content since High Isle lmao
Legends: Seemed interesting but never played it much lmao, lore/story seems to follow ESO's example of being hit or miss from what I saw
Blades: It was okay I guess. Another game I developed a habit for then promptly dropped after I finished building and upgrading my town. It's a mobile game so idk what I expected, annoying ads begging for money abounded. I did all of it without paying a single cent on my Switch and it was a slog but I did it. Pretty meh about it tbh
Castles: Looks cute. Never played it and probably never will.

You know, all of the action in season 9 in particular made me think about an AU that would be a something in between Skyrim and Undertale maybe? I don't know to many games, sorry. But it's like you travel along some path, meeting many Hermits as a side characters, interact with them in some way. Bdubs is there to give you clues to the main plot, Cub gives you side quests, Jevin is responsible for all the hidden things you can find, Scar sells magic upgrades or power-ups or he's the one that allows you to pick in which way do you progress with your abilities. You can of course interact with them more than just a use of game mechanics, taking good, neutral or bad path. With neutral path you just finish the game as it is, no harm, no anything, just the end. But with every bad choice you have possibility to fight any of the Hermits as an extra boss.
Tango that you first meet in Astral Library as a keeper, reappears at the Lonely Tower as the Mad King.
Scar that is usually a charming elf, that you have to go to in order to level up your abilities, disappears and then later on you meet him as the ConVex the Artist. After his battle, if you kill him, without even doing any bad choice with Cub, you have to fight Cub as ConVex the Engeenier.
Xisuma that was your guide through the dimension of the End, a tutorial if you may call him that, returns as The Void Keeper and is the hardest boss so far, breaking the game itself.
Grian is a wandering sassy trader, that you can find anywhere selling trinkets, armour and whatnots, but if you harm him, his shop turns into a monster (the Entity) and he himself becomes the Watcher.
Beef is a guy you meet at the pub that you can play cards with for some prizes. If you cheat, he later on becomes the Slaughter.
You meet Impulse at his keep, he's happy to upgrade your weapons and sell/buy materials, but he can also become a demon (something like Balrog) that you almost have no chance of defeating.
And so on, and so on. I don't have an idea for everyone yet, it's honestly just a rough sketch of an AU, but I guess it fits with everything that has been going on lately... It's just that the season nine could be as good as a poorly thought out D&D session, with Bdubs as a DM. And I can't wait to see what Tango does with Decked Out 2, maybe then I'll change the Lonely Tower to his own game of death. Though the boss title would still probably suit him.

It’s just a bare mattress ! “ “ I don’t know why when we were kids we thought hiding under the covers was gonna stop shit. “  “ Apparently hiding under your blankets is what’s going to save you. “  “ Give it to me know, please. “  “ You wouldn’t keep on filming either, would you ? “ “ Yup - time to start stabbing something ! “  “ Can someone buy her a new blanket as well ? “ “ I mean, you tie-dyed leopard print --- are you trying to make it uglier ? “ “ Oh, it’s a golf club ? My bad. “  “ Uh, ( Name ) move house - now. Stop buying expensive golf clubs and put that money towards more rent. “  “ I’m gonna call bullshit on this one. “ “ Aw, she’s missing ? I guess we’re going to find out why. “  “ I guess, Julianna can stay there with her new friend ! “  “ Missing girl ? She can stay missing ! I”m not dying today ! “  “ I never got any sleep when my daughter was growing up because I was afraid a demon would snatch her because of these videos. “ “ Big ass heavy doors are meant to be closed for a reason. “  “ That door would be sealed over immediately - I don’t need extra storage ! “ “ I’d have a priest bless a lake and then I’d just toss him in and leave him there. “  “ Who has a rocking chair in this day and age ? “ “ Why do old people enjoy them so much ? “

Insights into DAI’s development from Blood, Sweat, and Pixels
The book is by game industry journalist Jason Schreier (it’s an interesting read and well-written, I recommend it). This is the cliff notes version of the DAI chapter. This info isn’t new as the book is from 2017 (I finally got around to buying it). Some insight into DAO, DA2 and cancelled DA projects is also given. Cut for length.
BW hoped that DA would become the LotR of video games. DAO’s development was “a hellish seven-year slog”
The DAI team are compared to a chaotic “pirate ship”, which is what they called themselves internally. “It’ll get where it needs to go, but it’s going to go all over the place. Sail over here. Drink some rum. Go over here. Do something else. That’s how Mark Darrah likes to run his team.” An alternative take from someone else who worked on the game: “It was compared to a pirate ship because it was chaotic and the loudest voice in the room usually set the direction. I think they smartly adopted the name and morphed it into something better.”
A game about the Inquisition and the large-scale political conflicts it solves across Thedas, where the PC was the Inquisitor, was originally the vision for ‘DA2′. Plans had to change when SW:TOR’s development kept stalling and slipping. Frustrated EA execs wanted a new product from BW to bolster quarterly sales targets, and decided that DA would have to fill the gap. BW agreed to deliver DA2 within 16 months. “Basically, DA2 exists to fill that hole. That was the inception. It was always intended to be a game made to fit in that”
BW wanted to call it DA: Exodus, but EA’s marketing execs insisted on DA2, no matter what that name implied
DAO’s scope (Origin stories, that amount of big areas, variables, reactivity) was just not doable in a year, even if everyone worked overtime. To solve this problem, BW shelved the Inquisition idea and made a risky call: DA2 would be set in one city over time, allowing locations to be recycled and months to be shaved off dev time. They also axed DAO features like customizing party members’ equipment. These were the best calls they were able to make on a tight line
Many at BW are still proud of DA2. Those that worked on it grew closer from all being in it together
In certain dark accounting corners of EA, despite fan response to DA2 and its lower sales compared to DAO, DA2 is considered a wild success
By summer 2011 BW decided to cancel DA2′s expansion Exalted March in favor of a totally new game. They needed to get away from the stigma of DA2, reboot the franchise and show they could make triple-A quality good games.
DAI was going to be the most ambitious game BW had ever made and had a lot to prove (that BW could return to form, that EA wasn’t crippling the studio, that BW could make an ‘open-world’ RPG with big environments). There was a bit of a tone around the industry that there were essentially 2 tiers of BW, the ME team and then everyone else, and the DA team had a scrappy desire to fight back against that
DAI was behind schedule early on due to unfamiliar new technology; the new engine Frostbite was very technically challenging and required more work than anyone had expected. Even before finishing DA2 BW were looking for a new engine for the next game. Eclipse was creaky, obsolete, not fully-featured, graphically lacking. The ME team used Unreal, which made inter-team collab difficult. “Our tech strategy was just a mess. Every time we’d start a new game, people would say, ‘Oh, we should just pick a new engine’.”
After meeting with an EA exec BW decided on Frostbite. Nobody had ever used it to make an RPG, but EA owned FB dev studio DICE, and the engine was powerful and had good graphic capabilities & visual effects. If BW started making all its games on FB, it could share tech with sister studios and borrow tools when they learned cool new tricks.
For a while they worked on a prototype called Blackfoot, to get a feel for FB and to make a free-to-play DA MP game. It fizzled as the team was too small, which doesn’t lend itself well to working with FB, and was cancelled
BW resurfaced the old Inquisition idea. What might a DA3 look like on FB? Their plan by 2012 was to make an open-world RPG heavily inspired by Skyrim that hit all the beats DA2 couldn’t. “My secret mission was to shock and awe the players with the massive amounts of content.” People complained there wasn’t enough in DA2. “At the end of DAI, I actually want people to go, ‘Oh god, not [another] level’.”
It was originally called Dragon Age 3: Inquisition
BW wanted to launch on next-gen consoles only but EA’s profit forecasters were caught up in the rise of iPad and iPhone gaming and were worried the next-gen consoles wouldn’t sell well. As a safeguard EA insist it also ship on current-gen. Most games at that time followed this strategy. Shipping on 5 platforms at once would be a first for BW
Ambitions were piling up. This was to be BW’s first 3D open-world game, and their first game on Frostbite, an engine that had never been used to make RPGs. It needed to be made in roughly two years, it needed to ship on 5 platforms, and, oh yeah, it needed to restore the reputation of a studio that had been beaten up pretty badly. “Basically we had to do new consoles, a new engine, new gameplay, build the hugest game that we’ve ever made, and build it to a higher standard than we ever did. With tools that don’t exist.”
FB didn’t have RPG stats, a visible PC, spells, save systems, a party of 4 people, the same kind of cutscenes etc and couldn’t create any of those things. BW had to create these on top of it. BW initially underestimated how much work this would be. BW were the FB guinea pigs. Early on in DAI’s development, even the most basic tasks were excruciating, and this impacted even fundamental aspects of game design and dev. When FB’s tools did function they were finicky and difficult. DICE’s team supported them but had limited resources and were 8 hours ahead. Since creating new content in FB was so difficult, trying to evaluate its quality became impossible. FB engine updates made things even more challenging. After every one, BW had to manually merge and test it; this was debilitating, and there were times when the build didn’t work for a month or was really unstable.
Meanwhile the art department were having a blast. FB was great for big beautiful environments. For months they made as much as possible, taking educated guesses when they didn’t know yet what the designers needed. “For a long time there was a joke on the project that we’d made a fantastic-looking screenshot generator, because you could walk around these levels with nothing to do. You could take great pictures.”
The concept of DAI as open-world was stymying the story/writers and gameplay/designers teams. What were players going to do in these big landscapes? How could BW ensure exploring remained fun after many hours? Their teams didn’t have time for system designers to envision, iterate and test a good “core gameplay loop” (quests, encounters, activities etc). FB wouldn’t allow it. Designers couldn’t test new ideas or answer questions because basic features were missing or didn’t exist yet.
EA’s CEO told BW they should have the ability to ride dragons and that this would make DAI sell 10 million copies. BW didn’t take this idea very seriously
BW had an abstract idea that the player would roam the world solving problems and building up power or influence they could use. But how would that look/work like in-game? This could have used refinement and testing but instead they decided to build some levels and hope they could figure it out as they went.
One day in late 2012, after a year of strained development on DAI, Mark Darrah asked Mike Laidlaw to go to lunch. “We’re walking out to his car,” Laidlaw said, “and I think he might have had a bit of a script in his head. [Darrah] said, ‘All right, I don’t actually know how to approach this, so I’m just going to say it. On a scale of one to apocalyptic... how upset would you be if I said [the player] could be, I dunno, a Qunari Inquisitor?’”
Laidlaw was baffled. They’d decided that the player could be only a human in DAI. Adding other playable races like Darrah was asking for would mean they’d need to quadruple their budget for animation, voice acting, and scripting.
“I went, ‘I think we could make that work’,” Laidlaw said, asking Darrah if he could have more budget for dialogue.
Darrah answered that if Laidlaw could make playable races happen, he couldn’t just have more dialogue. He could have an entire year of production.
Laidlaw was thrilled. “Fuck yeah, OK,” he recalled saying.
MD had actually already realized at this point it’d be impossible to finish DAI in 2013. They needed at least a year’s delay and adding the other playable races was part of a plan/planned pitch to secure this. He was in the process of putting together a pitch to EA: let BW delay the game, and in exchange it’d be bigger and better that anyone at EA had envisioned. These new marketing points included playable races, mounts and a new tactical camera. If EA wouldn’t let them delay, they would have had to cut things. Going into that BW were confident but nervous, especially in the wake of EA’s recent turmoil where they’d just parted ways with their CEO and had recruited a new board member while they hunted for a new one. They didn’t know how the new board member would react, and the delay would affect EA’s projections for that fiscal year. Maybe it was the convincing pitch, or the exec turmoil, or the specter of DA2, or maybe EA didn’t like being called “The Worst Company in America”. Winning that award 2 years in a row had had a tangible impact on the execs and led to feisty internal meetings on how to repair EA’s image. Whatever the reasons, EA greenlit the delay.
The PAX Crestwood demo was beautiful but almost entirely fake. By fall 2013, BW had implemented many of FB’s ‘parts’, but still didn’t know what kind of ‘car’ they were making. ML and team scripted the PAX demo by hand, entirely based on what BW thought would be in the game. The level & art assets were real but the gameplay wasn’t. “Part of what we had to do is go out early and try to be transparent because of DA2. And just say, ‘Look, here, it’s the game, it’s running live, it’s at PAX.’ Because we wanted to make that statement that we’re here for fans.”
DA2 hung on the team like a shadow. There was insecurity, uncertainty, they had trouble sticking to one vision. Which DA2 things were due to the short dev time and which were bad calls? What stuff should they reinvent? There were debates over combat (DAO-style vs DA2-style) and arguments over how to populate the wilderness.
In the months after that demo, BW cut much of what they’d shown in it. Even small features went through many permutations. DAI had no proper preproduction phase (important for testing and discarding things), so leads were stretched thin and had to make impulsive decisions.
By the end of 2013, DAI had 200+ people working on it, and dozens of additional outsourced artists in Russia and China. Coordinating all the work across various departments was challenging and a full-time job for several people. At this sheer scale of game dev, there are many complexities and inter-dependencies. Work finally became significantly less tedious and more doable when BW and DICE added more features to FB. Time was running out though, and another delay was a no.
The team spent many hours in November and December piecing together a “narrative playable” version of the game to be the holiday period’s game build for BW staff to test that year. Feedback on the demo was bad. There were big complaints on story, that it didn’t make sense and was illogical. Originally the PC became Inquisitor and sealed the breach in the prologue, which removed a sense of urgency. In response the writers embarked on Operation Sledgehammer (breaking a bone to set it right), radically revising the entire first act.
The other big piece of negative feedback was that battles weren’t fun. Daniel Kading, who had recently joined BW and brought with him a rigorous new method for testing combat in games, went to BW leadership with a proposal: give him authority to open his own little lab with the other designers and call up the entire team for mandatory play sessions for test purposes. They agreed and he used this experiment to get test feedback and specifically pinpoint where problems were. Morale took a turn for the better that week, DK’s team made several tweaks, and through these sessions feedback ratings went from 1.2 to 8.8 four weeks later.
Many on the team wished they didn’t have to ship for old consoles (clunky, less powerful). BW leadership decided not to add features to the next-gen versions that wouldn’t be possible on the older ones, so that both versions of the game played the same. This limited things and meant the team had to find creative solutions. “I probably should’ve tried harder to kill [the last-gen] version of the game”, said Aaryn Flynn. In the end the next-gen consoles sold very well and only 10% of DAI sales were on last-gen.
“A lot of what we do is well-intentioned fakery,” said Patrick Weekes, pointing to a late quest called “Here Lies The Abyss”. “When you assault the fortress, you have a big cut scene that has a lot of Inquisition soldiers and a lot of Grey Wardens on the walls. And then anyone paying attention or looking for it as you’re fighting through the fortress will go, ‘Wow, I’m only actually fighting three to four guys at a time.’ Because in order for that to work [on old gen], you couldn’t have too many different character types on screen.”
Parts of DAI were still way behind schedule because it was so big and complex, and because some tools hadn’t started functioning until late on. Some basic features weren’t able to be implemented til the last minute (they were 8 months from ship before they could get all party members in the squad. At one point PW was playtesting to check if Iron Bull’s banter was firing, and realized there was no way to even recruit IB) and some flaws couldn’t be identified til the last few months. Trying to determine flow and pacing was rough.
They couldn’t disappoint fans again. They needed to take the time to revise and polish every aspect of DAI. “I think DAI is a direct response to DA2,” said Cameron Lee. “DAI was bigger than it needed to be. It had everything but the kitchen sink in it, to the point that we went too far... I think that having to deal with DA2 and the negative feedback we got on some parts of that was driving the team to want to put everything in and try to address every little problem or perceived problem.”
At this point they had 2 options: settle for an incomplete game, which would disappoint fans especially post-DA2, or crunch. They opted to crunch. It was the worst period of extended overtime in DAI’s development yet and was really rough: late nights, weekends, lost family time, 12-14 hour days, stress, mental health impacts.
During 2014′s crunch, they finally finished off features they wished they’d nailed down in year 1. They completed the Power (influence) system and added side quests, hidden treasures and puzzles. Things that weren’t working like destructible environments were promptly removed. The writers rewrote the prologue at least 6 times, but didn’t have enough time to pay such attention to the ending. Just a few months before launch pivotal features like jumping were added.
By summer BW had bumped back release by another 6 weeks for polish. DAI had about 99,000 bugs in it (qualitative and quantitative; things like “I was bored here” are a bug). “The number of bugs on an open-world game, I’ve never seen anything like it. But they’re all so easy to fix, so keep filing these bugs and we’ll keep fixing them.” For BW it was harder to discover them, and the QA team had to do creative experimentation and spend endless late nights testing things. PW would take builds home to let their 9 year old son play around. Their son was obsessed with mounting and dismounting the horse and accidentally discovered a bug where if you dismounted in the wrong place, all your companions’ gear would vanish. “It was because my son liked the horse so much more than anyone else ever had or will ever like the horse.”
MD had a knack for prioritizing which bugs should be fixed, like the one where you could get to inaccessible areas by jumping on Varric’s head. “Muscle memory is incredibly influential at this point. Through the hellfire which is game development, we’re forged into a unit, in that we know what everyone’s thinking and we understand everyone’s expectations.”
At launch they still didn’t have all their tools working, they only had their tools working enough.
DAI became the best-selling DA game, beating EA’s sales expectations in just a few weeks. If you look closely you can see the lingering remnants of its chaotic development, like the “garbage quests” in the Hinterlands. Some players didn’t realize they could leave the area and others got caught in a “weird, compulsive gratification loop”. Internet commentators rushed to blame “those damn lazy devs” but really, these were the natural consequences of DAI’s struggles. Maybe things would have been different if they’d miraculously received another year of dev time, or if they’d had years before starting development to build FB’s tools first.
“The challenge of the Hinterlands and what it represented to the opening 10 hours of DAI is exactly the struggle of learning to build open-world gameplay and mechanisms when you are a linear narrative story studio,” said Aaryn Flynn.
“DA2 was the product of a remarkable time-line challenge,” said Mike Laidlaw, “DAI was the product of a remarkable technical challenge. But it had enough time to cook, and as a result it was a much better game.”

Special Guest Appearance
(That's the title of this one)
Warnings: NSFW, Dom!Levi, a smidge of tail action, MC uses she/her pronouns with female genetalia, slight masturbation, mentions of demon in heat, let me know if I need to add more! 💜
"Hey there Deviltube, L3 here and welcome back to another video. We're going to pick up where we left off here playing Skyrim. If you remember we were-"
Marcie mouthed the words with a practiced ease as she lip-synced his signature intro, dangling her legs outside the rim of his tub bed. Her eyes roved over her own device as she played through the same quest he was currently livestreaming. He had told her before that he didn't mind if she'd made an appearance during one of his streams, but she knew this was his passion and didn't want to distract him from it. Besides, playing along with him always made her feel giddy, gave her a sense of happiness she couldn't explain.
Today, however was a little different. After his last livestream, Marcie had pulled up a walkthrough to read ahead through the next quest. She still wanted to play it through with him but this time, she wanted to make an appearance during his livestream.
It had been almost a full month since his last heat and now that he had Marcie, well it was a little easier for him to get through it, but Marcie also knew he dreaded the heat cycle. It made him insatiable and dark, rough and driven by lust and the pure primal instinct to mate. Marcie couldn't help the bolt of pleasure that danced along her spine, pooling in her lower abdomen remembering how he had been with her. She licked her lips, fighting back a moan, as she felt the ghost of his tail coiled around her throat, his cocks penetrating both of her holes at the same time. Her blue eyes fixated on her screen, set in determination and she squeezed her thighs together just slightly, already feeling her arousal dampen her panties. Today would be an interesting livestream indeed.
"What do you guys think, should I fast travel to the Greybeards or run there?" Levi panned his camera to the area surrounding him and his eyes caught some bandits in the distance, "or should I go kill those guys and steal their horse?" He paused for a moment to rummage through his character's inventory as the comments flowed in, all his viewers casting their votes.
That's when his nose picked up a scent, light at first but unmistakable as it whirled around his senses, embracing him. The scent of sweet oranges and subtle notes of peppermint mellowed out by eucalyptus and tied together with lemongrass; it was the ambrosial scent of his human's arousal.
Orange eyes could see her legs swaying over the edge of his tub in their peripheral vision, he caught the movement as her legs moved closer together and get smell became more potent.
Levi snapped out of his trance when he felt his mouth begin to salivate and turned his attention back to the game. He saw a prominent blush spreading out across the bridge of good nose, painting his cheeks and a light pink in his livestream camera feed. The pupils of his eyes narrowed into slits but only so briefly he thought he'd imagine it. Shaking his head, he faked a few coughs and cleared his throat, hoping it would dispel the blush and felt a stirring in the back of his mind.
"H-hey," his voice cracked and he cleared his throat again, reaching out to take a swig of his energy drink. "Guess I'm going to go steal a horse," his laugh was forced but he quickly found himself delving back into the game.
Marcie was biting her hand trying not to laugh. Watching his face, his real time reactions in the corner of the steam, oh he was going to punish her for what she had planned. She smiled, practically humming in anticipation. Bandits had not spawned in her game so she led her character over to where his would be on his playthrough and paused to wait for him. Making as little sound as possible, Marcie pulled her shirt up and over her head and placed it on the blankets next to her. Levi engaged in combat with the bandits and took the opportunity to pull her legs down and tug off her jeans as well, leaving her with just her bra and underwear on.
The full scent of her arousal washed over him, no longer held back by the denim. He paused his game mid fight to catch his breath. Comments poured in, some asking if he was a noob for chickening out of a fight, some asking if he was okay because he looked feverish. His eyes cut back over to the tub and noticed her legs were not hanging over the rim anymore. Listening for a moment for any indication she was doing something indecent in his bed, Marcie noticed Levi was looking her direction on the livestream and held up her hand, giving him a thumbs-up signaling she was okay. Hesitating, he turned back to his game, face felt like it was on fire. The red stuck out against his normally pale face.
"Sorry about that," Levi saw he was sporting a small pout and changed his expression to a small smile, sheepishly looking into the camera, "I guess I'm not feeling too well today but I still plan on carrying out the rest of this mission." Talking helped him shift his mindset back into gaming mode and soon he was making his way to the Throat of the World on horseback.
A few hours had passed, Marcie found herself lost in the game as well until she'd heard the words she'd been waiting for. While reading the walkthrough, she memorized the key phrase for when she would act out her plan. Levi had a knack for letting the cutscenes play all the way through, soaking in the dialogue and cinematography like a long-awaited movie.
The voices droned on as she saved her game and put her console to sleep. Peeking her head above the top of the tub, her lips spread in a conniving smile; the mischievous kitty about to eat herself a canary. Readjusting her breasts to plump them up in her bra, she crawled out of the tub and slunk down. His attention was solely focused on the monitor, watching the Nordic heroes battling against Alduin's forces, eyes sparkling as he watched the scene unfold. She almost felt guilty for what she was about to do. Almost.
Marcie crept and crouched to hide behind the file cabinet under his desk, successfully concealing herself. Her nerves fluttered, she debated giving up and returning to the tub. But then she felt the ghost of his claws running down her thighs as his tongue, his forked tongue, made her see stars between her legs. Her breathing shuddered as she steeled her resolve and crept closer, crawling on her hands and knees under his desk.
Levi had been entranced by the cutscene. The graphics, the cinematography, the dialogue, the lore, it all fascinated him. The rich lore of the Elder Scrolls and here was the moment he saw the three heroes go against Alduin and witness how the World Eater was cast forward into time.
He almost missed the spike in Marcie's arousal. The scent was stronger this time, he choked back a whine. His leg started to bounce in frustration as he felt his own arousal start to stir. Levi bit his lip as he felt his pants tighten around him, he could feel another part of him start to wake up as well, after having slumbered for almost a month. His grip tightened on the controller as he shifted in his seat, spreading his legs wider to add a little more friction and pressure to his semi-hardening erection.
Marcie could feel the smile that stretched across her face, smug and victorious. She could fell herself start to drool and she inched closer. He was reacting to her. Reaching her hand down to her own apex, Marcie ran her fingers through her folds biting back a sigh and played with her clit and watched the tent in his pants twitch and rise.
Levi sucked in a breath, releasing his lip, a vein pulsated along his neck as he grit his teeth together. She was teasing him now. She had to have known what affect she had on him. The screen blacked out as it shifted to a loading screen. Taking the moment to roll his chair back, Levi arched his body, turning to look into the tub bed. He felt his heart stop when it was empty. He clearly still smelled her, but where-
Oh.
She smiled innocently as they made eye contact, raising her hand to her mouth and sucked on the fingers that were previously rubbing against her folds. Marcie groped her breast before pointing up, indicating his game had finished loading.
Levi's mouth was gaping, his face was burning red, his erection straining against his pants. His eyes slowly followed where she was pointing and he scrambled to pull himself back to his desk and turned off the camera.
"S-sorry everyone," he gulped, ignoring all the comments flowing in, "uh, technical d-difficulties," Levi cleared his throat, "let's p-pick up where we left off." Marcie snickered silently as he tried to keep his composure and placed her hands on his knees, gently squeezing his thighs. Levi shifted into his demon form instantaneously and Marcie licked her lips as his tail cracked against the tile floor.
This was supposed to be the moment in the game where he was to fight Alduin. He had spent days level crunching so he could be prepared. Oh, he was going to punish her. Levi smiled deviously and paused the game.
"I swear, some people in this house are really inconsiderate, I'm sorry, I have to go yell at Mammon again," his tail was thrashing around behind him making crashing noises to accompany the lie. Muting the microphone, Levi rolled his chair back slowly and leaned forward to grip Marcie's chin and pulled her up to meet his face, a wicked grin spreading over his lips. Marcie gulped and licked her lips in anticipation.
"You're going to sit in my lap, and I'm going to edge you until I've decided you've had enough." She nodded enthusiastically and he shook his head, and let out a deep laugh "You underestimate my power."
In normal circumstances, she would have snorted at the reference but with her current state of arousal and the way he was devouring her almost-naked form with his eyes, his words sent shivers down her spine.
Levi rolled his chair back and Marcie climbed out from under his desk. He raised his hips and commanded her to take off his pants.
"You should be wet enough to take all of me, right kohai?"
Marcie bit her lip and twirled a stand of her hair around her finger, saying, "but you're so big senpai, I don't know if my tight pussy will be able to take all of you, but maybe if you fucked my throat first?" Her lower lip jutted out in a pout and he groaned, the arm rests cracking under his grip.
Levi released a dark chuckle, cocked his head to the side, and smiled sadistically. "You haven't earned that right. You know where the lube is, go get it." She pouted but obliged, pulling open one of the drawers and took out the bottle.
"Good girl now hand it over," he outstretched his hand and Marcie whined. He was denying her of touching him, he tutted in response as she held it out to him. "You should have thought about that earlier. You have to earn the right to touch me," Levi coated his erection with enough lube and tossed the bottle onto the floor. "Now, turn around and come sit on my lap."
"Yes senpai," Marcie did as she was told, sticking her ass out further than necessary before lowering herself down, releasing a shuddering moan as his size stretched her out. The lube made it easier for him to slide in but she was still met with resistance and struggled with his size, riding him shallowly to coax her muscles to loosen up.
Levi growled, his tail cracking against the floor as he felt her walls squeeze him. It had been awhile since they were last intimate, and he could tell with the way her heat constricted around him. Leaning forward, a claw traced the fabric of her bra before twisting, slicing right through the fabric. His hand reached around and groped her plump breast as she had done earlier, his other hand moving down her body.
His fingers ghosted over her skin, feeling the flesh ripple and twitch under his delicate touch. He bit into her shoulder as his hand reached her apex, his fingers rolling themselves over her sensitive nub and lapped his tongue against the love bite.
"What's wrong Marcelline," he palmed her breast, toying with her nipple and teased the skin on her other shoulder, "I thought you wanted this yet you're struggling. Try to keep quiet as you take the rest of me or I'll have no choice but to shove my tail down your throat." The tip of the appendage slithered around her thigh before coming up to flick against her clit as emphasis. Panting and biting her lip, Marcie continued rolling her hips in slow and shallow thrusts, moving as much as he'd allow. His nails dug into her hip painfully if she moved too much.
Rolling them back to the computer, Levi switched out his headphones, opting for a single earbud so he could hear her and the game, and moved his mic to the other side, away from Marcie but still able to talk into it. He'd have to read the comments later, but he lost a few viewers.
'I bet if I turned the camera back on, the viewer count would skyrocket.' Levi mulled over the thought but she threw her head back onto his shoulder as she fully seated herself on his lap and he could see her face; eyes clouded in lust, breasts rolling around to match her panting, cheeks burning bright red, mouth hanging open, was that drool? No, only he was allowed to see her like this. No one else deserved to lay eyes on his precious Marcie.
Levi gave her breast one last squeeze before returning his hand to the keyboard. "Not a single peep. If you make a noise or try to move, I will only play longer." He kissed her shoulder, "you understand kohai?" He smiled as she nodded.
Shout-out to @kawaiizard for helping me beta read this 😭 I appreciate you 💜

Gem Glow: Part 2
Tumblr media
Wilt: “So Steven plans to recreate the event which he believed made his gem glowed.”
Tumblr media
Steven: “Amethyst, I think your arms are crossed.”
Tumblr media
Amethyst: “Okay, your majesty.”
Spinel: “AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
Sharpie: “You’re scaring me.”
Tumblr media
Steven: “And Pearl, your foot was like this.”
Spinel: “Lucky bastard.”
Sharpie: “You’re disgusting, Spinel.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilt: “I admire this kid’s ability to try and think around his problems, even if it’s not guaranteed to work.”
Sharpie: “Of course you would. You lack street smarts it’s embarrassing to be identified with you. Anyone that’s capable of basic logic and problem solving techniques would look incredibly smart to you.”
Wilt: “Did I… hurt you in some way to warrant this reaction?”
Sharpie: “You always hurt me, Wilt. You always hurt me.”
Tumblr media
Steven: “Maybe I’m not a real Crystal Gem.”
Spinel: BWAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA-“
Sharpie: “You too, Spinel.”
Tumblr media
Pearl: “Don’t be silly, Steven. Of course you are.”
Tumblr media
Amethyst: “And you’re fun to have around, even if your gem is useless!”
Tumblr media
Spinel: “Of course Pearly knows what’s up.”
Tumblr media
Amethyst: “I mean, you’re one of us, Steven. We’re not the Crystal Gems without you.”
Sharpie: “Are you gonna cry now, Wilt?”
Wilt: “I can’t. I wish I could. But I do remember crying every other episode when I started binge-watching this show around 2017.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilt: “Awww, his happiness after all that declaration of the team not being complete without him summoned his shield, and of course by cartoon standards, mistaken Cookie Cats to be the source of his powers. But at least not for long.”
Sharpie: “Emotion based powers are so annoying.”
Wilt: “At least not for too long. Also this shot is beautiful.”
Tumblr media
Steven: “Woah, what!? I get a shield?”
Wilt: “Yes. A defensive weapon. Still very capable of beating the crap out of roaches if you like. I personally love the Block Skill tree in Skyrim. Running through an army with my shield up is brokenly awesome. And if you have high enough stamina, you can actually kill low level mooks with just a shield bash.”
Spinel: “And Sharpie is still a sneak archer.”
Sharpie: “Shut it. It’s clean, efficient and effective. Why waste my energy when I can kill someone effortlessly from the shadows?”
Spinel: “For the challenge of course.”
Tumblr media
Steven: “I summon my weapon by eating ice cream!”
Tumblr media
Pearl: “What’s in these things?”
Spinel: “I have a personalized Cookie Cat recipe that you might like, Pearl.”
Sharpie: “No.”
Spinel: “The special ingredient is love.”
Sharpie: “NO.”
Tumblr media
Wilt: “Oop, can’t forget those.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilt: “This is precisely the part which made me continue to watch this show. The OST is just muah!”
Tumblr media
Pearl: “Stay in the house, Steven!”
Wilt: “The piano, the feel, it’s just fantastic! The music is what makes this cartoon feel like home.”
Tumblr media
Wilt: “And of course, being Steven, he wants to involve himself in some serious Gem ass-kicking business. He wants to prove he is ready to be a Crystal Gem like the rest of them. Like any kid, really.”
Sharpie: “They rush to be grown-ups. And someday wish they are children again.”
Tumblr media
Spinel: “I rate this corrupted gem 9/10, what about you, Sharpie?”
Sharpie: “5/10.”
Tumblr media
Sharpie: “Wow, oh come on, you guys. I’m sure you’re far more capable than this.”
Spinel: “Don’t you hate it when you’re only as strong as the plot allows you to be?”
Tumblr media
Amethyst: “We could really use Steven’s shield right about now.”
Spinel: “What if, just what if, they’re doing this to test him? Like they pretend to be helpless to give him a chance?”
Sharpie: “Don’t give me false hope.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilt: “YES. The music in this part is *chef’s kiss*”
Tumblr media
Sharpie: “Jeez, if we stumbled into Beach City a few years earlier, I’d feel bad.”
Tumblr media
“Uh oh.”
Tumblr media
Pearl: “We need to save Steven!”
Amethyst: “Can we save ourselves first?”
Sharpie: “I change my mind, 8/10.”
Tumblr media
Sharpie: “Oh come on, Garnet! You’re FAR more capable than this. That’s just ONE corrupted gem and you’re so much more!”
Spinel: “Awww, Sharpie is being supportive in her own, Sharpie way.”
Sharpie: “NO, it’s just I’m at disbelief that she’s capable of beating our asses around and yet this centipeedle is making her struggle. It’s… it’s embarrassing!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spinel: “Ahh I’ve long forgotten this emotion.”
Sharpie: “All he needed was a little push and that was the loss of a loved one.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilt: “Ah, so simple appliances can work on corrupted gems?”
Sharpie: “On dumb gems like centipeedle, I guess.”
Spinel: “Think of the bills after this...”
Tumblr media
Sharpie: “Ahh yes, the important lesson of sacrifice.”
Tumblr media
Sharpie: “Faaaabulous.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spinel: “Wow. I don’t remember poofing a Corrupted Gem was that dramatic.”
Sharpie: “After poofing several hundred of them, it gets rather stale.”
Tumblr media
Spinel: “WOAH!”
Sharpie: “What?”
Spinel: “All this time we just leave corrupted gems right where they poofed, instead of doing this. The diamonds never educated me about this.”
Sharpie: “Ah, right. This should explain why the longer we roam around Earth; the less and less we encounter these things. Also, yes. You’re made to be a dumbass so they didn’t bother.”
Spinel: “Awww, I ran out of playmates because of this... Humans are too fragile. Oh well.”
Tumblr media
Amethyst: “Well, I guess your powers don’t come from ice cream.”
Pearl: “Of course they don’t come from ice cream.”
Tumblr media
Pearl: “Don’t worry, Steven. I’m sure someday you’ll figure out how to activate your gem.”
Tumblr media
Garnet: “Yes. In your own Steven-y way.”
Sharpie: “Tears, Wilt. Where are they?”
Wilt: “Uhhhhh......”
Sharpie: “You know what that means.”
Tumblr media
Spinel: “Hey Sharpie, what if we’re in this scene right now?”
Sharpie: “Then this cartoon becomes M-rated for profanity, violence and gore in an instant. Now excuse me while I make this fucker cry.”

Note
one of the ingame lines fro the vigilants of stendarr is literally “stendarr’s mercy be upon you, for the vigil has none to spare” LIKE ?????
(this turned into a huge speculative essay i am So Sorry)
YEAH EXACTLY. I'm gonna end up leaving canon and getting into headcanon territory REAL quick here but I did some extra digging around on UESP and imo the dissonance between Stendarr as a figure and the actual practices of his worshipers, esp. post oblivion crisis is really interesting.
Like. From what I can gather, pre-crisis Stendarr worship was a lot more peaceful, and open to acceptance of heretics and the healing of "abominations" (although the acceptance of either depended heavily on the sect of the cult you approached) and aligns a lot more with the core ideas of a god of mercy. There are a few texts that imply violence, (notably the one outlining the Four Abominations that should be extinguished) but overall it seems a lot more placid, and the Abominations are still words of mortals so we can't exactly define them as Stendarr's definitive will.
That being said, you could bring up that Stendarr stood with Tiber Septim and is a patron of the Imperial Legion to refute this, (since that inherently implies violence and a good lack of mercy, esp given that the Legion is.... Not Great. I get that Stendarr is the apologist of men, but a god of mercy on the side of a colonizing faction is....well......Hmm.) You can always interpret the latter as imperial propaganda though. (which I personally do) The whole thing's a tossup but tldr pre-crisis Stendarr worship seems to be chill in the vast majority, w some deviation to fulfill political goals (yuck).
Post-crisis, the only thing we see of Stendarr is the Vigilants. We don't know anything beyond them in Skyrim, but we can presume that they're a big enough faction to have several separate branches in Tamriel. The Vigil is notably way more violent than prior sects of Stendarr worshipers, esp given the dialogue line you mentioned. That shit doesn't line up with mercy at all, and by all means they seem more like violent zealots than an actual organization of good faith. I can't imagine Stendarr being super cool with that, but given how they're pretty much just NPCs who get wiped out by vampires after you reach level 10, we never get any real info on how people see them, how Stendarr sees them, or how other sects of Stendarr worshipers see them. Huge shame imo.
Personally, I think worship of the Divines probably grew a Fuckload between the Oblivion Crisis and 4E 201, and the view of each individual divine may have changed a lot after the appearance of the avatar of Akatosh. A bunch of people seeing god* manifest physically and kick Dagon's ass can do that. This is just my Take(tm) and not rooted in canon, but I wonder if the combination of fear from the crisis and physically Seeing god* led some people to interpret the divines as way more personal than before and kinda anthropomorphize them, as people tend to do with deities irl. Like, previously they may have been more inaccessible or mysterious, but I can imagine that witnessing the avatar of Akatosh would make people think they were more capable of Interfering with shit, which would subsequently make them more devout in the hopes that their chosen divine would be there for them in some time of need. I can also see some real conflict springing from this, between old and new worship practices, esp in the case of the Vigilants vs the old ways of worshiping Stendarr. There's no basis in canon for this, but I'm guessing if older cults of Stendarr still exist the Vigilants would NOT be in their good graces.
*I know a lot of it was Martin but like. Roll with me here I think seeing a giant gold dragon pop out of a dude might make you rethink some stuff.

Pc Games With Character Creation Offline
Tumblr media
Games With Character Customization Pc
Steam Games With Character Creation
One of the things I love most in a RPG (Role-Playing Game) is the possibility of creating my own character with tons of different options and add-ons. I made a research yesterday and found some interesting PC Games I already knew about, adding them to the titles I have or plan to get with the best Character Customization. I’m going to list them here for you guys also attaching a few videos so that you can see directly how they work and what kind of possibilities they offer.
It’s the main reason I enjoy games like Skyrim and Fallout. But there seem to be so few good (single player) games with decent character creation - and not just picking from a few presets. The character creation in Dragon Age: inquisition was amazing (although I struggled to enjoy the game) as well as Saints Row (which I really enjoyed). Addicting Offline Co-op Games For PC You’ll Want To Play. Dennis Patrick / Features / Best Co-op PC Games, Co-op, Cooperative. Sonic the Hedgehog is a staple video game character. Best MMORPG with Character Creation. Final Fantasy 14 has one of the most complex and sophisticated character editors. In this game, you can change the smallest details using different sliders, pick a unique voice, or add unique tattoos, accessories and facial paint. What Are Best RPGs With Character Creation? Role-playing games let us live out some of our greatest fantasies like slaying dragons, saving the world and owning a house. Whether your main character is dead, alive, or somewhere in between, these games will let you adjust your appearance and abilities to however you see fit. I've always loved games that give you the option to create your character before you start in the world. I enjoy the game even more when it has role playing or social aspects added to it, allowing you interact with NPCs, or other players if the game has a multiplayer feature. Just character creation would interest me enough to check any game out.
Follow me under the cut if you’re curious!
I’ve been introduced to this type of creation with a game I still keep in my heart and consider one of the best of all times; The Sims 2. Seriously, I’ve created so many 3D characters that if I could win an award I’d have 200 on my shelf by now.
With that said, here you are my personal list of PC games with their awesome customization in no particular order:
I tried this game myself (the free beta that is) a few times in the past and I swear the CC included in it is currently one of my favorite. Without the complete pack I probably didn’t have a lot of additional options available in terms of clothes, makeup and hair, but what truly mesmerized me at the time was the shaping tool, not yet common in games when they released EVE. You can grab and drag different parts of the head and body, modeling unique characters every time.
Tumblr media
2. Black Desert Online
This game has been released recently with two different packages and it seems to be quite a popular MMORPG (Massive(ly) Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) in Russia and Korea. I’m not surprised considering the quality this game seems to have and its customization is clearly no less. Just like EVE Online, Black Desert offers a good sculpt instrument to shape faces and bodies as much as you like, plus a beautiful variety of colors and combinations.
UPDATE: The game is also available on Steam!
This patch lets you play Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks with mostly non-touch based controls. The new control bindings are Control Bindings: D-Pad=Run Y+Dpad=Walk B=Wide slash B+Dpad=Long slash Y+B=Spin Attack A=Interact A+Dpad=Roll. Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks D-Pad Patch This patch implements non-touchscreen controls for essential actions in Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. Legend of zelda spirit tracks xenophobia patched rom.
3. Blade&Soul
This is another Asian MMORPG with the classical ‘Anime’ style, you cannot freely reshape the character’s structure, only pick one of the available presets and play around with the sliders to modify the whole body. Andy mckinney molly hatchet. Still, I honestly like the bright colors, the races/classes and the fact that you can actually recreate other existing characters using additional content (just like this guy did with Cloud from Final Fantasy VII).
4. BLESS Online
Yes, another Asian online title. Hey, it’s not my fault if they look so pretty! Bless is quite recent and not yet released in its final stage, but judging by how the CC works you have as much freedom as in EVE or Black Desert and the same unmistakable Fantasy touch.
5. The Sims 4
Didn’t I mention The Sims 2? Well, looks like the latest title in the series has improved quite a lot in this area. The shaping/sculpting method is here as well, considering that we finally have more possibilities I certainly won’t complain!
Note: In this video I can see the woman has a few mods installed. If you decide to get this game (or even the previous chapters) I definitely suggest you to do the same if you don’t like the default character design.
6. Fallout 4
Another recent (and quite famous) game. Apparently you can only work on the face here, but once again we see the sculpt tool in action. Even if the hair options are a bit limited you can still customize your character and create unique features playing around with your cursor.
7. Dragon Age: Inquisition
Who knows me is well aware of the fact that I am completely OBSESSED with this game, thus I couldn’t really leave it out. The hair options are definitely questionable and just like in Fallout 4 you do not have any body morph nor slider to alter, but as you can see from this video example you are still able to personalize your Inquisitor in a good way, also using real people or other characters as reference. To be honest I like some of the default presets too, if you don’t like spending two hours working on a face (I do that all the time, but I am a basket case so please ignore my madness :P), you can pick those and get a good result nonetheless.
And don’t forget about mods! 😉
8. Skyrim (The Elder Scrolls V)
This one has been around for a very long time and it remains probably the top 1 Fantasy game out there. If you’re not into mods at all and want to keep your game vanilla be sure that the overall quality is not as improved as the current generation, you can see that from the low-res hair and general textures. The reason why I’m including this CC in the list anyway is because even if old, Skyrim looks quite good compared to other games where you only get 3/4 slider options.
9. APB Reloaded
The last game I’d like to mention (and I literally just discovered it) is this not so new title which has a kick-ass Character Creator. Not only it shows some quality graphics there, but the level of customization is unbelievable! You can make hair shorter, beards longer, create beautiful tattoos (and place or rotate them wherever you want!), add patterns to clothes and even get your personal car! 😀

There are of course many other games with a Character Creator, but they all seem pretty similar or not good enough to be mentioned in my list.
What do you think about these? Let me know with a comment if you like!
Those late-night multiplayer sessions can be really fun sometimes. Surely, everything is better with friends, they say and you’ll agree with that at some point. However, after a long day of work and studying, I like to relax with offline games. Sometimes, it’s satisfying to let yourself indulge in a great single-player story and forget about any problems bothering you. So, if you are like me, then welcome to the club! Below is my list of 20 best offline games for PC and I hope you’ll enjoy them.
1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
W2k16 pc download. Well, you’ve guessed it! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes first place on the list with its epic setting, characters, gameplay, and those breathtaking visuals! It’s a compelling game that will offer you more than a hundred hours of non-filler gameplay, and there’s always something to explore. The game looks amazing, and the combat system is great. This open-world title is everything you need on your free days! Combine that with the great RPG elements and fun dialogues with NPCs, and you got yourself a pretty good offline game! Go and play it now, it’s a must-play.
2. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
Wolfenstein series has been once again revived with Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. The positive reviews flashed all around the globe, and this game quickly became one of the best shooting games of 2017. B.J Blazkowicz is such a badass protagonist and the characters surrounding the game are interesting. You’ll quickly start to care about each and every one of them, making this game a worthy offline title. Bethesda said that they won’t be focusing on multiplayer, so they can bring an immersive single-player experience. Well, you nailed it, Bethesda; great job!
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Bethesda is one of my favorite companies when it comes to gaming, at least they were a few years back. A few years back, this masterpiece called The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released and it took the Earth by storm! This offline open-world title offers hundreds of hours of exploration and you’ll probably never get bored of it! The combat system might be dated, but it’s damn fun to play and explore every corner of the game. After six years since its release, I’m still eager to give Skyrim another go. It’s that great!
4. Fallout 4
Games With Character Customization Pc
Fallout 4 is one of those top offline games that you either like or dislike. It’s a great single-player experience, as you explore a huge world of fictional city Commonwealth. I mean, the story here is scattered here and there, and our protagonist is in search of his abducted son. However, the game often steers away from that and let you have some freedom and exploration. It’s a fantastic reboot of the series, and it’s surely the best game in the franchise. If you are up for that Stalker-ish feeling, then give this a try!
5. Hitman (2016)
Hitman isn’t a strictly offline game, but I included it because it has a great single-player campaign. While the previous entry in the series Hitman: Absolution relied more on linear, claustrophobic, and confined experience, Hitman (2016) went in a different direction. Here, you’ll experience a vast, open-world with lots of stuff to do. The levels are not that numerous, but they are as big as hell! You can complete your missions in various ways and earn certain rewards and points for doing so. Hitman is a challenging stealth experience, but once Agent 47crawls under your skin, there’s no going back!
Steam Games With Character Creation
6. Nioh
Nioh is a less-known offline game released this year, and I feel like this game is very underrated. It’s a child of Dark Souls and Bloodborne series, which can tell you much about this game. It has a single, crushing, and unforgiving difficulty that will leave you begging for mercy. It’s hard, and you’ll need some blazing fast reflexes and huge gaming skills to finish it. There are more than twenty bosses in the game, and every single boss will kick your ass! Don’t expect to finish this game in a few days; you’ll need weeks to finish it and it will be painfully slow as the bosses shame you every little time… you helpless gamer!
7. Nier: Automata
Another underrated game – Nier: Automata. How could the gaming community overlook this game? Are you blind, or what? This game offers thirty hours of a pure, refined, and amazing experience! It’s a hack-and-slash title that mergers several genres with it. The open world in this game is huge, and the post-apocalyptic environment looks depressing and feels like a void. Nier also introduces RPG elements so you can now level yourself up, upgrade weapons, buy stuff, etc. On top of that, there are some 2D sections that feel like a great platformer, and that’ very unique! Nier: Automata is better than most AAA titles and costs double the less of that price, which is one more reason to get it.
8. Dark Souls 3
Dark Souls series got a fantastic reboot with Dark Souls 3. Just if it wasn’t enough for the previous games in the series, and now we got this punishing game. What can I say? Prepare to die a LOT in this game, as it’s created to kill you. I’m not joking, the whole game is against you, and you can’t do anything about that except fight like a lunatic. Even when you die, the enemies around you respawn and you must fight again and again, which is really frustrating. However, if you have the balls to play it, and manage to finish it, then you deserve a medal, Sir!
9. Bioshock Infinite
Bioshock Infinite is the newest installment in the Bioshock series. This cheap game can give you a huge value for your buck, especially when the Holidays come. I mean, for just a couple of bucks, you can get a fantastic FPS game, which campaign isn’t short and definitely isn’t boring! Bioshock Infinite continues its tradition with great shooting mechanics, various powerups, and that fast-paced shooting in a beautiful environment of the game. Get ready to cause mayhem!
10. Alien: Isolation
Alien: Isolation is that PC offline game that will haunt your dreams every time you try to sleep. It’s a horror game in which you try to stay in one piece and escape that damn space station called Sevastopol. Sounds similar? Well, that’s because the game is based on Alien (1979) movie, which was a very disturbing experience at the time. It’s an intense game that makes your palms sweat and your heart beating so fast that you’ll think it’s gonna come out of your chest! Try this horror if you dare, and watch yourself getting swallowed by the Alien, in a single bite!
11. Far Cry Primal
Elephants are cool, but mammoths are so badass! In Far Cry Primal, you can hunt mammoths and even ride them when you get to higher levels! How cool are you from zero to riding a mammoth? This beautiful-looking game is set 10,000 years BC and no, you aren’t going to shoot guns, but bash the hell out of your enemies. The arsenal of weapons might not be that huge, but the combat is great and requires more thinking, as the enemies are sometimes overwhelming and can easily kill you. If you have the luck to tame a sabertooth tiger, you may survive in this harsh world!
12. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
There is something special about that claustrophobic feeling, especially when it comes to horror games that you can play without internet. That sense of dread and despair when you don’t have much space to move is priceless. Don’t think of me as a psycho, but I LOVE the horror genre! RE7: Biohazard is a game that caught my attention as soon as it was released. This bad boy will provide you with a horrific experience that will leave you scared to death! As the game plays from the first-person perspective, it’s much easier to get yourself immersed, but also scared.
13. Outlast 2
Outlast 2 is yet another offline horror experience, where the developers decided to leave your powerless. There aren’t weapons for you to use, and surely no means to defend yourself. So, what are you left with? Well, a camera and a journal should do the trick! The game does a damn fine job of melding the horror and the dread with stealth and great storytelling. In the end, you may feel a little let down by the ending, but I know you’ll enjoy it until the very end.
14. Dead Space 3
Tumblr media
Cat et 2015a factory password generator. While the past games in the series focused more on that horror experience, Dead Space 3 is more of an action-horror game. Sure, there are Necromorphs and they are vicious and all, but the action part is more prominent. Needless to say that Dead Space 3 is an amazing game and I’m very sad that Visceral Games is closed by EA in October. This survival horror game is hugely underrated, but it’s awesome and I recommend you to play it. It’s just a couple of bucks for this experience, don’t be a niggard!
15. Portal 2
There’s something awesome when it comes to Source Engine. The games made with this engine looks amazing, yet they run smoothly. How did Valve manage to do that? Well, as I am not a game developer, don’t ask me! But ask me about Portal 2, which is Valve’s magnum opus, and a compelling puzzle game. The whole point of the game is to use a Portal gun in order to create portals and pass through them. However, the game isn’t that simple and requires some brain skill to finish it. Grab your Portal Gun, and let’s go on a venture!
16. Limbo
This 2D game is straight-up terrifying, dark, and misanthropic from the start to finish! In Limbo, you are a little boy that needs to survive this colorless world of the game as he overcomes various obstacles and escape scary monsters. I like the game’s artwork and the atmosphere is simply top-notch here if you like the dark ambient in the games. It’s a must-play for every offline Indie games lover!
17. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Speaking of the atmosphere, very few great offline games can replicate the atmosphere as it is in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. That post-apocalyptic atmosphere of Pripyat looks great, and the game isn’t colorful, which is the whole point. Everything has that grey-ish tint, as this town suffered greatly when the Nuclear Powerplant in that area exploded. It’s based on a real-life event that occurred around 1989, which gives the game a certain weight and meaning.
18. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
With MGSV: The Phantom Pain, Hideo Kojima proved that he still has what it takes to create such immersive PC games without internet. This stealth game is challenging and full of stuff to do, due to its open-world nature. The characters are badass and the game feels somewhat dark, with a very serious tone. Oh, and not to forget that plot twist at the end that’s worth those thirty hours I’ve spent on this game!
19. SOMA
Horror fans will be pleased that I mentioned another horror title here. SOMA is an absolutely spooky and nerve-wracking experience! It creates that atmosphere that’s very unique, and with the story being told in the shape of various documents scattered through the game, it’s even more badass! You are all alone here and you’ll fight for your life, only to find out that you aren’t actually alive! A truly wonderful offline game for Windows.
20. Superhot
Superhot is a cartoonish-looking offline game that revolves around time. To make it simple, the time in the game moves when you move, so if you are standing still, nothing will happen. Vice Versa, if you are moving and shooting, then the enemies will do the same. It’s a lot of fun, but a lot of challenges too. I played it with some of my favorite death metal albums, just to ensure that I’m hardcore enough to beat it!
Tumblr media
As we are approaching near the end of our journey through the offline PC games, I’m here to ask you a question. What is your favorite offline game for PC? I tried my best to count some of my favorite offline games, and although I’m maybe going to start a war for not including some of the games, I stand behind my words. Oh, and why don’t you tell me what game did I miss? Do you have any favorites besides these 20 games? Please, let me know, and don’t forget to do some gaming today!

In the pre-dawn hours, Tim and Lucien begin their journey to Bleak Falls Barrows. Along the way, they come upon an old abandoned watchtower...

-------------------------
About an hour before sunrise. Tim left Gerdur's home without waking its occupants and went to wait for Lucien on the bridge that lead out of town towards the mountains. He nibbled on some bread and cheese as he listened to the sound of the water rushing over the rocks underneath him. It was a calming sound that soothed his jangled nerves somewhat, and also helped distract him just a little from the fact that he had no access to coffee.
Now that several days had passed since first waking up on that road to Helgen, his body had acclimated enough to remind him, at that god-awful pre-dawn hour, oh by-the-way aren't we addicted to caffeine and why haven't you gotten your fix yet?! Unfortunately, far as he could find from both the inns in Riverwood and in Whiterun, coffee just didn't exist in Skyrim. Apparently Nords just woke up and powered through mornings like Kryptonians.
On top of the growing headache behind his eyes that always signaled the first miserable sign of caffiene withdrawl, Tim was also coping with the lingering pain from his burns. Though he'd used the balm and re-wrapped his torso, upper left arm, and shoulder in linen bandages, the ache of the burn had made it nearly impossible to sleep, especially since he couldn't reach the entire burn area on his back. There were areas he just couldn't get to on his own, and he hadn't wanted to ask for help from anyone else.
So he was sore, tired, and feeling irritable at hell. If it weren't for the weight of the three hundred gold coins resting in pouch at his waist, he would've seriously considered leaving Lucien behind to spare him the pain of dealing with his foul mood. The poor museum man just didn't deserve that.
"I'm going to step out on a limb and guess you are not typically a morning person."
Tim glanced toward the voice and scanned Lucien carefully. While the man had professed not to be much of a fighter, at least he had the sense to know how to dress for the climate they were about to travel into. He appeared to be wearing multiple, sensible layers of clothing meant to keep him warm underneath a long robe that was trimmed with intricate embroidery and had a hood that was already drawn over his head. Above that he wore long fur cloak that settled upon his shoulders and down his back. The man also had a backpack that was probably filled with his research gear, a small oil lantern that was clipped to one side of his belt, and a sheathed sword strapped to the other side.
Tim smiled wryly. "I've always been more of a night owl," he said, hoping belatedly that owls were actually a bird that existed in this place.
Apparently they were as Lucien gave him a sympathetic look. "I understand completely. Used to be the same way when I entered university a few years back. Here." The scholar reached into his bag and pulled out what looked like a leather waterskin.
Tim took the waterskin and noticed it felt warm. He gave Lucien a quizzical look.
"It's a blend of tea I concocted to help with these kinds of mornings. Brewed some up and made enough for both of us. I figured it was the least I could do for surprising you last night with 'extra baggage' for your trip to the Barrows." Lucien urged Tim to try it.
Curiously, Tim did take sip. It definitely wasn't coffee, but as far as teas went it wasn't that bad. There was definitely a strong herbal quality to it, though Tim couldn't even begin to identify what it could be from. There was also a slight smokiness to the flavor as well, as if there was some sort of roasted grain mixed in. But most important of all, whatever was in it was taking the edge off his caffeine withdrawl symptoms.
"Thanks Lucien. I really needed that," he said after a moment.
"Wonderful! Shall we be off then?"
***
When the pair of them left Riverwood, though the sun hadn't risen yet the sky was clear. Unfortunately, the further up the mountain they went towards the Barrows, the worse the weather got. First there was fog. Then there was snow. Tim had shrugged his own fur cloak into a better position to cover more of his body. A glance backward confirmed Lucien had done the same. It was clear neither of them were acclimated to this kind of weather, not like the local Nords.
"How long do you think it will take to reach the Barrow?" Lucien asked as he paused to warm his hands over his small oil lantern.
Tim made a mental note to purchase a lantern the next time he saw one at a general store. "Gerdur said that once we reach the abandoned tower, we should be about halfway there."
They continued their trek up the barely there path for about an hour. The snow and the fog made it hard to see more than a few yards far in front of them. For awhile there, Tim wondered if perhaps they had missed seeing the abandoned tower at all.
As their path began to level off where the mountain began to naturally plateau Tim could finally see it. There was an old stone watchtower set right at the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the valley below.
Tumblr media
"Finally," Lucien said as he caught sight of the tower as well. "Let's stop there for a bit of a rest before going up the rest of the way."
Tim almost agreed with him, but then he noticed movement around the base of the tower. "Wait!" he said as he reached out to snag Lucien by the cloak and dragged him behind a large pile of rocks.
"What's wron--" Lucien started to ask, but was startled by the expression on his companion's face. Tim's face was a mask of deadly serious focus as he stared at the tower from behind the cover of the rocks.
"There are people at the tower. At least two."
Lucien peeked over the top of the rocks, eyes squinting as he tried to see through the fog and snow. "They must be the bandits that have taken root in this area. But are you sure about the number? I can barely see the outline of the tower through all this mist, let alone any people." When he didn't get an answer, Lucien glanced to his side. "Timothy?"
Much to his surprise, he was all alone except for Tim's footprints winding around the rocks in the snow.
***
Tim stealthily moved closer to the tower by slinking from cover to cover. He hoped Lucien would take the unspoken hint and stay behind until he was done.
This... felt good. Hiding in shadows. Keeping a civilian safe. Creeping up on goons/bandits while he plotted their inevitable takedown. Finally, for the first time since arriving in Skyrim, Tim felt like himself.
From where he sat, he could see that there was just a change in the guard. One who had been standing at a post a few yards from the tower entrance was swapped by another who'd walked out from it. Tim counted his lucky stars. It was this movement that had caught his attention earlier. Due to the weather, if it had just been the guard standing there, he might not have caught sight of him until it was too late.
Once the other guard disappeared into the tower, leaving his partner alone, Tim made his move.
Tumblr media
The solid THUNK of the steel dagger embedding itself in the trunk of the tree he'd been leaning on immediately caught the attention of the bandit guard, startling him from his attempt to stay warm at his post.
"What the--?!" he exclaimed as he whipped his head to the left and saw the dagger vibrating mere inches from his nose. Then the sound of rustling in a nearby set of bushes, and the sight of the snow-laden branches jostling around immediately caught his eye. It looked as if there was a shadow hunched behind it. With a growl, the guard immediately drew his sword and rushed the bushes, prepared to slice open whoever had thrown the dagger. However, he ended up choking on his warcry as he saw that there was nothing but a backpack sitting in the snow. "Huh?"
Tim smirked as he crept out from behind a large boulder, his quarterstaff a comfortable weight in his hands as he prepared to swing it at his unsuspecting target.
***
The sound of a body falling to the ground with a muffled groan after a series of suspicious thudding noises caught the attention of the original guard as she poked her head out of the tower's entrance. This one drew her bow and nocked an arrow immediately upon seeing that their compatriot was not where he was supposed to be. Cautiously, she walked across the bridge that led to the mountainside. Then she saw the body of the other guard.
"Skialg!" she called out with alarm. Caution thrown to the wind, she rushed forward to check on him, though, she never saw the staff that jutted out in front of her feet, tripping her into the snow.
The moment the bow was out of her hands, Tim stepped out and kicked it well out of reach. The female Nord bandit looked up to find a wooden staff pointed ominously at her face. Her eyes widened in horror.
"You've got two choices," Tim said with a dark smirk and a low tone. "You can either jog down the mountain and never come back, or you can end up like your friend there, taking a nap in the snow. Which would you prefer?"
Tim was ready for a counterattack, and was mildly surprised when it never came. He was expecting anger and retaliation. Instead, there appeared to be genuine terror on the woman's face as she nervously scrambled to her feet and booked it down the mountain path, racing past Lucien without a second though even though she could clearly see him.
As soon as she was out of sight, Tim relaxed and rested his staff on his shoulder. "Well that was disappointing," he said as Lucien walked up to him. Though the sky was still overcast, somewhere beyond the clouds the sun had risen and had lightened up their surroundings considerably. "Are bandits around here always so skittish?"
"Well how would you feel if you had a mage's staff aimed at your face?" Lucien said with a disapproving frown. "Honestly, Timothy! A Fire Blast or Sparks or Frostbite at point-blank range like that would have been completely excessive and resulted in backlash on you as well as your target. Who taught you how to use a staff with such bad form anyways?"
"Mage's staff?" Tim looked at Lucien with confusion.
Lucien noticed the odd look Tim gave him, then motioned for TIm to give him the staff. Without protest, Tim handed it over. After a moment, it was the scholar's turn to look confused. "Wait... Is this... Just a stick?"
"Actually, it's a quarterstaff."
"But... Wait, so you don't use magic at all?"
"No."
"But you carry staff."
"Yes."
"That has no magic whatsoever."
"I guess not? Wasn't expecting it to when I bought it."
"But... What do you do with this, if not to cast spells?"
Tim blinked at him, then rubbed the back of his neck. "I just... well... hit people with it?"
Lucien gaped at him. "And, that works?"
Tim pointed at the other bandit that was still unconscious.
"Mara's mercy! Did you actually kill that bandit with a stick?!" Lucien went over and poked the bandit with Tim's quarterstaff experimentally
Tim sighed. "No, he's not dead. Just unconscious. He'll be out for hours, and we'll be long gone by then."
Lucien straightened up with a contemplative expression on his face. "So... your entire plan to get us past the bandits on our way to the Barrow was to sneak up on your own, with just a stick, to bludgeon a pair of bandits into Oblivion, but not really because you had no intention of actually killing them?"
"Yeah. Pretty much," Tim remarked as he went back to the original guard's tree. He tugged the dagger out of its bark and then went to retrieve his backpack from where he'd thrown it earlier. "Maybe it doesn't make sense to you, but even if they're bandits and on the wrong side of the law, they're still people with lives and possibly even families. To end their lives so casually, as if they were worth nothing at all..." He sighed as he closed up his pack. "It's just... not the way I was raised. Ending another human life should never be an option if there are other solutions available."
When Tim looked at Lucien again, he found the scholar studying him in a way that made him feel a little uncomfortable, like he was a puzzle needing to be solved. "That's a very noble sentiment. Truly in the spirit of Stendarr himself," Lucien finally said as he handed the quarterstaff back to Tim. "Hopefully it won't get you killed one day. Tamriel could use more people who thought like you do, though I doubt the bandits on the road will show us the same mercy."
Tumblr media
Tim gave Lucien a weak smile. "Hopefully," he echoed. Then he motioned for Lucien to wait as he took a few minutes to drag the still unconscious bandit back into the tower. When Tim came back out to continue his journey with Lucien to the Barrows, he shrugged his shoulders at the odd look the scholar gave him. "What? It wouldn't be much better if I left him out in the open to die of exposure or to be eaten by a wolf."
Lucien laughed as he walked alongside Tim once more up the mountainside. "Somewhere up in the shrubbery there's a starving wolf that's sure to be cursing your name right now."
"Well lucky for me, I've got a big stick."

Author Note: This is being pantsed more than plotted, and this is not beta read. We'll see where this journey takes us. Mostly I'm just doing this for my own amusement.
Note: If you have any questions about the playthrough and Tim's feelings/experiences that aren't described in the chapters, please ask me in the comments. I'll do my best to answer your questions as best I can.

Also honestly I prefer the scorpion one because A) People like wolves, people think that wolves are cool, dangerous but cool, beautiful, elegant, useful. But scorpions? People hate scorpions. They think they're disgusting, ugly, and detestable. They hate them just like they hate wasps. That's closer to my heart. I just feel like I get a lot of misunderstood/hated animals. Like cats. A lot of people like cats but a lot of people also have a really weird hateboner for them? Like half of people are fine with cats and the other half is like "A cat is a killing machine incapable of love and all cats actually hate their owners and actually cats are Satan incarnate." But like I get cats? Don't take me wrong I love dogs too but most of them are a little too cuddly for me. B) The tale about the scorpion just goes against everything I believe in when it comes to other people. Like the assertion that someone can be inherently evil is simply something I cannot agree with. I do not believe that it's anyone's nature to hurt. That is not to say that evil is unnatural, I think it's natural the way a tumor is. Like sure, you can't say a tumor is something nature didn't create, but you aren't born with it. That's the way evil is natural, I think. Like, I think it has to be natural in some way because I think that's just what happens when a creature reaches a certain brain capacity, but maybe a creature of our level of cognition (or higher) who doesn't have the capacity for evil is unimaginable simply because the only creatures with such a cognition that we know of are us. So maybe in the end evil is fully artificial but who knows, it doesn't really matter anyway. What matters is that we aren't born with it, I believe. I just can't look at a baby and think it can be evil, it doesn't have the capacity for evil. Like animals. I mean, animals that aren't humans. And I disagree with the notion that change is impossible for some. I just cannot agree with that. But also you know how sometimes Mental Illness™ will make you create these weird "Rules for me but not for thee" situations? Yeah that too. Like I'm "Hmmm yes actually I agree with this but for me specifically. When it comes to everybody else it's bullshit and I will kill Aesop again with my bare hands. But when it comes to me specifically? It checks out." And I'm also like really weird about that one wildly real quote from Skyrim and about the question it poses. The one that goes a little like "What is better? to be born good or to overcome your nature through great effort?" Like I've been weirdly obsessed with that concept since a young age tbh, but not really with this specifically but with the question "If someone is born evil, can they ever be actually good? Or is every good act just a deceitful masquerade hiding their evil? Can good done by someone evil at heart be called good? Can someone evil ever repay the debt of their nature, or is every act of trying to considered selfish and thus even more evil? Is the only decently good act someone of such a nature can partake in dying?" and I honestly have no answer, no matter how much I think about it, I can't come to a conclusion.
I agree with you 100%. A lot of what you said resonates with me. To believe that some people are "simply born evil" allows people to wash their hands of "evil" people; It allows them to dismiss them as "having just been born that way" rather than analyzing their behavior and what circumstances/events led them to act how they did. Everyone is capable of evil, you know? Maybe some of us are more predisposed to it than others, but the potential is inside all of us.
I would rather try to understand "evil" people - I have always kind of viewed the world in hues of grey, and I guess my desire to know the person behind their acts and dissect what about their lives/circumstances caused them to "become evil" is just an extension of that. People are just people, you know? Even the kindest people have a dark side, and even the cruelest people can show humanity and tenderness to those close to them.
I also really feel you on that "this applies to other people, but not to me" thing PFFT. It's no secret that I tend to view myself as... monstrous in many aspects. It's partially why I, too, am obsessed with similar quotes and with the whole "nature vs free will" type topics.
