katelyn already knows all about how annoying kevin can be from aaron who complains about him all the time, so when she meets him she doesn’t expect the media version of kevin day. from the beginning she doesn’t judge him, tries to get him to show his real self because she’s curious about him. she likes exy and watching aaron but it isn’t her entire life either. she’ll listen to kevin when he talks about exy but is just as attentive when he brings up his other interests. she’s already gotten one traumatised boy who hates everyone to trust her and love her, how hard is it to do it again? she’s kind because she likes to be, sunshine, and kevin’s always been obsessed with people who embody sunshine and hope for him. she likes the bitchy side of him, too, giggles at his scathing comments. katelyn likes kevin, not kevin day.

the twins not knowing who’s the oldest is. like schrödinger’s cat. except the box can never be opened. so they perpetually live as both oldest and youngest simultaneously throughout their relationship. they’re both the protector and the protected, they’re both fighting for the other’s attention/affection, and the one disinterested in it, they’re both the first to leave, and the last one standing, the last one left. they’re both the one that reaches out and the one that waits to be reached out to.

aftg au where aaron and tilda spend a summer in la for some reason when he’s like 11 (not being able to afford rent so they’re staying with someone she knows? a relationship went bad and she needs to distance herself from san jose, so she hits up an old friend most of the state away?) and aaron befriends a kid around his age at the skatepark & they hang out pretty regularly (sometimes with the kid’s brother) either skating or playing their game boys (aaron can tell the kid’s family is better off than him and tilda, but he’s not complaining about getting to play newer games he hasn’t been able to afford), and after the summer they stay in touch sometimes over email (aaron didn’t have one before because why would he need that, but the kid’s older siblings had gotten him set up with one, and he helps aaron make one), only over the years they slowly start talking less and less, and as things escalate with andrew, they stop talking at all, and then it’s a fee years later and tilda is dead and aaron is locked in a bathroom with canned food thinking about the past and when he gets out he emails the old friend he’d thought about, only to get an email back from the brother he’d met a few times saying that he’s dead, too, and he doesn’t stay in touch with the brother (obviously, they weren’t really friends), except a few years later he gets an email with a link to a report about his arrest and a question mark, and they talk only a very little bit, and then before semifinals he gets another email just telling him that the foxes better beat USC because joshua hates the trojans

Kevaaron but Aaron notices his attraction to Kevin at the very start. Aaron getting angry at himself and distancing himself from Kevin because any other interaction with the guy would be unacceptable. Aaron eventually calming down but realizing his attraction to Kevin isn't accessible—but why would he want it to be, didn't he not want this in the first place? Aaron getting with Katelyn not because it's a coverup but because he genuinely loves her as a person. Aaron figuring out what bisexuality is through a friend of Katelyn's and maybe coming to terms with what he feels sooner rather than later. Aaron and Katelyn splitting on good terms–because here, they know they would be just as good as friends, if not more so. (Aaron sees the way Katelyn looks at that one girl, and Katelyn has probably seen how he looks at....). And everything goes back to Kevin. Now more than ever is he pissed that everything that Kevin is not a path he can pursue. Aaron sees Kevin grieving Riko and even though their traumas aren't the same, he sits next to Kevin anyways. And maybe thats alright, if that is all he will ever get.

I am, once again, thinking of the Ravens vs. Foxes game and how the foxes, Neil and Andrew in particular, barely made it off the court alive.

But there's so much more to it.

Danielle Wilds, the absolute ICON AND QUEEN that she is, starting for Andrew but seeing that Matt and Aaron had that sorted and moving to help Kevin instead??? Matt having to be the one who eventually pries her away because she was still trying to go for his attacker even after they'd been pulled away from each other. Dan, who is usually so composed and put together, feeling so angry that the foxes, HER FOXES, are being attacked again!!

Either Matt or Aaron (I can't decide who I want it to be more) warning Andrew, meaning he's somehow able to dodge a deadly shot. They saved his life when Neil couldn't and I know Neil will forever be grateful for that. Then both of them just destroying those damn backliners for even thinking of hurting their teammate, and Aaron's brother (we all have seen how protective Aaron gets).

And Kevin, my love. The way he didn't even hesitate to go to Neil. He saw him in danger, and despite how scared he must have been, he still ran to help him, still fought his attacker and decided that, yes, Dan definitely has this covered and she helped him so he could help Neil. The way he kneeled at his side, probably begging and praying for some kind of response as he lay there unmoving, begging Abby to help him anyway she could..

I kind of choose to believe that Renee, Allison and Nicky stormed the court the second those doors opened for the refs. Nicky may have been the one to get Andrew over to Wymack in the first place, as we all know he's not a fighter. And the girls wouldn't hesitate to fight but maybe they only wanted to help their injured teammates off the court and I will die on that hill.

Then there's Neil and Andrew, who consume my every waking thought. I've made a post before about them, but I cannot escape them. Neil, who turned immediately for Andrew but was whacked to the floor, who probably still tried to get up until that racquet was across his neck and he fought harder than he ever has before but it was not enough. Andrew was out of reach, and he knows ravens, they will go for the kill and both he and Andrew don't stand a chance of getting out of this alive. But no, he survived 8 years on the run, he survived evermore and his father, he could survive this. But when the racquet was removed, all he could do was lay unmoving, UNMOVING, on the court floor. And Abby was trying to get a coherent response but you just know his eyes were locked on Kevin as he used the last of his breath to ask where Andrew was. And as Wymack dropped Andrew beside him, there was relief but pain because he wasn't fast enough to save him.

And Andrew, the boy who constantly crashes out when someone he cares about is in danger. He had a broken collarbone, but he dragged Wymack across the court to Neil. He had a broken collarbone, but he headlocked Lane so quickly, he went for the kill and had he been in full strength we all know he would have succeeded. Andrew, who despite everything helped Neil to his feet, wrapped his working arm around him to help him stand his ground and get off the court and neither of them would say it, but they both felt the pain of not saving the other. And they'll be damned if they're ever going to be so far apart from each other again.

Anyway, the foxes were already a family, especially after Baltimore, but this brought them closer than they've ever been. The shared anger they feel to the Ravens, the combined healing they have to do together, physically and mentally, it's a beautiful story. The foxes invented found family.

AU where Katelyn is the one to kill Drake. Bonus points if she has to push through Neil and Aaron to get to him. Extra bonus points if she feels absolutely no remorse or even better: she starts laughing in a manic fit like Andrew does in that scene
