I used to get really depressed about being so invested in stories/worlds/characters that don't exist (separation grief combined with "what's the point")

but in this world of racist terf billionaire children's authors using the popularity of their fiction to propagate their views...I think that there IS a point and that our stories are worth telling actually. Especially stories that explore a vision of the world we want. it Cannot become the domain of shitheads and profiteers

I feel like that phrase has a deeper meaning. I'd say that in future episodes showing the characters' stories, it would be better understood.

Even so, I think he meant that he doesn't want Mel to end up as corrupt as them. In reality, Mel is quite innocent for that world, in my opinion. He wants her to remain the energetic girl with hope, someone far from being rotten both inside and out.

But that's just my current perspective. Maybe it will change as the episodes go by. :P
