kind of surprised at how much people romance alistair when i feel like every warden (but especially cousland) has very good reason to resent him
that conversation when the party first arrive in lothering always bothered me. "i don't know where we should go. i dont want to lead" you are the SENIOR WARDEN, alistair, even after being recruited, the warden was kept in the dark about so many things. they weren't with the wardens long enough to learn about the dreams, or the shortened lifespan, or the loss of fertility, or anything. I know even alistair didn't know everything (a fundamental failure of the grey wardens, imo, how much they insist everything should be a secret) but he had six months at least. the warden had. a day.
secondly, its having all that responsibility thrust upon them, then having to comfort alistair through his grief when they have likely recently exoerienced their own loss (and, in the case of cousland, leave their parents to be murdered)
i kept seeing takes of how nobody cares about rook, they have to help everyone with their problems when no one will help with theirs, but that has always been the lot of the da protagonist, and i feel it most keenly with the hero of fereldan

I write this on twitter but I want to expand on it a bit..
I’ve been thinking about Cousland and Alistair a lot today.
Both of them are way too young omg and have them rule the country? Last year I was often struck with how I was the hof's age.. that idea makes me genuinely devastated. And now that I'm practically Alistair's age..It genuinely brings me to tears..
I love him so much and I really love my Cousland too.
You know, I made my Alistair king and had my warden be queen with him. I know it's a little bit cruel to make him king when he doesn't want to but idk. I mean I personally wanted my character to be queen when I heard that was an option, but like role playing wise I know it’s sad. I wasn’t even supposed to romance Alistair that first playthrough. I usually look up the romance options before playing any game and with dao I planned to romance Zevran first, and then I started to like Alistair, that has never happened to me before, I liked it, I liked him.
When I struggle to fall asleep I sometimes imagine what their conversation would be like, what would come up in their discussions. I write their letters in my head (maybe I should actually write some) and their conversations. I think she still feels bad about it, that and the ritual with Morrigan. I think he still thinks about it too. Yeah it was to save both their lives, their futures together. If there was any other way, I know she would have chosen that. When the warden leaves, because she does, it’s not because she misses the fighting and the adventure, but for duty. I don’t remember the exact plot of that dlc but I know she can’t wait to go back to Alistair.
After that, the warden is gone so that she can find the cure and live a long life with him, but obviously she will not have the time without him back.. I think he thinks that way too.
I know they can’t have children and maybe she wants them. I think the idea she can’t have children with him is what kills her.
I would love to replay with my Cousland but I don’t think I’ll play dao again after my current playthrough.. it’s just way too long. If there was a way to take clips with my horrible laptop, I’d definitely would..

What it is about kind male video game companions that male gamers absolutely HATE?
I've seen it happen with Dragon Age's Alistair, Mass Effect's Kaidan, and even lowkey KOTOR's Carth Onasi (emphasis on kind, not necessarily nice, cause dude had a bit of an attitude in the beginnning). Now I'm seeing it with Gale of Waterdeep from Baldur's Gate 3.
Men hate him! Admittedly, many women seem to also hate Gale (Though from what I'm observing, it seems to be because his romance is bugged in a way that doesn't recognize when you've rejected him, so to many it comes off as not taking no for an answer -- but that's the fault of the game, not the character). The other reason I'm seeing from women is that he supposedly doesn't respect boundaries, citing his relationship with Mystra, but... were yall listening to him at all?
1. This goddess took interest in him as a *child* prodigy, became his mentor, and then his lover??? That's sus as hell.
2. It's not like he and Mystra had personal boundaries set specifically for their relationship, and he decided to cross them, it was that Mystra has general magical limitations for magic users in general, and Gale thought he would be an exception because she treated him as special, and because his reasons for pushing his magical limitations were to restore a part of her she'd lost. I've also seen people say he downplays that as a simple mistake made in his youth, but from the actual conversation with him, it's very clear he regrets that so?? I don't get it. (maybe I'm misremembering or missing more of the story, I'm only at the beginning of Act 2)
But this post is a reaction-rant to seeing too many male creators on tiktok hate on Gale so badly it's becoming obnoxious. And their reasons are so weak, yet fuel hatred so strong. They just find him so annoying, and I guess to each their own, but I don't get why, and I don't get why men always seem to find those kinds of emotionally available, kind for the sake of being kind, male characters annoying.

A Small Rant Based On Niche Dragon Age Community Drama That Tumblr's Recommendation Algorithm Put On My Dash
Just. As a preface. The "Is Alistair Biracial/Dark Skinned By IRL Standards" discourse bugs me because it tends to (or tended to back in the day) distract from SO MANY other problems with how Dragon Age handles problems of race and racism (Its tendency to whitewash characters like Isabela and Dorian who are very very much dark skinned and non-white, the ISSUES with the orientalist mess that is the Qunari, trying to Both Sides the Dalish repeatedly being genocided by the Chantry, how it handles issues of oppression and resistance in general, etc). Because there are better, more worthwhile discussions to be had.
Also I TRULY don't care that much, i just tend to rant A Lot, and needed to post this somewhere, so if you're really invested in biracial Alistair please scroll on, I'm not saying it's a bad interpretation, just... venting/ranting about extremely minor differences in interpretation of the text
That Being Said...
... Why does everyone think that Alistair isn't white. Like. We've SEEN characters with dark skin in Origins' engine (And it's not usually subtle about it). And, unless youre seeing him in darkness (At camp, for example), there is no denying that that is a White Guy That Tans Well.
Every argument I see on it just... baffles me. Like. Especially when they get into the ones that are like "Well, if you take the raw model in the viewer and-" (This one especially annoys me because THAT"S NOT HOW ANIMATION WORKS. Lighting and filters and all that are integral parts of the finished product too) because. Like. Look at this man
Tumblr media
That is a white man with a decent tan.
My skin is about that color (Darker when I've been working outside consistently) and my ancestry can best be described as "Heinz 57 varieties of white with dominant notes of Black Irish and Scottish/Northern English"
I'm not touching the "Is Fiona Dark Skinned In The Book Or Not" discourse with a ten foot pole either, except to say that most Circle apprentices are adolescents/children for most of it, and can y'all think of a reason that a teen girl miiiight be jealous of an adult woman's flawless, porcelain like skin? (Hint: It's acne)
Also. No, he's not whitewashed in Dragon Age 2. He's just losing his tan because no matter if he's king or warden commander, he's spending most of his time indoors doing "Person high up the command structure" things instead of cross country hiking.
Dragon Age Inquisition on the other hand... How the FUCK did Bioware manage to whitewash a white man.

I've seen many posts about people missing how common asks used to be so I have been trying to send about an ask a week. Now I send this ask first anytime I follow someone as I really don't want to bother anyone, so I'd love to know if you enjoy receiving asks and if so what kind of asks. Not having energy for asks or being comfortable with them is perfectly okay.
The categories I have in my ask notebook that I file under are in colour. Please feel free to make your response as long as you want or private (the asker cannot directly respond to private responses).
Self, Job/Work: please let me know what you are comfortable with from eh idk just ask it to nothing personal at all.
Baggishield/Tolkien, Dragon Age, Johnlock/Sherlock, ineffable spouses, other fandom: Please let me know what fandoms. I think my main fandoms and ships are Bagginshield/The Hobbit, Sherlock/Johnlock, Dragon Age Inquisition, {Pippin/Faramir Merry/Eowyn}/The Lord of the Rings and I dip my toes in a few that I currently can't remember but ships I don't engage with the canon of at all are: Good Omens but only for Crowley/Azirapheal, Stranger Things but only for Steve/Eddie , The Witcher but only for Geralt/Jaskier, and Ladybug and Cat Noir but only for Adrinette .
OC's, art/drawing, their writing, blog specific only
Story snippets ideas and prompts: Do you like receiving them?
Pets: I'd love to know all about them
Garden and Hobbies: What type of gardening and/or hobbies?
Like being tagged in things: If so what kinds of things?
*Asks are sent for fun, no pressure to answer.
Oh, hi! Thanks for the message! I honestly didn't know that asks are no longer as common as they used to be. I've never been a good candidate to receive them since I don't have so many followers (I always thought you needed at least 500 to get asks lol) and I'm not much of a creator. I usually just reblog stuff that makes me happy and occasionally (like once in three years) I share a fic I wrote here so I never had high hopes which is why I was very surprised when I received this ask and it made me so happy! Seriously, you're so cool for doing this, especially when people don't expect it at all. Even though it's through social media, it requires a bit of coming out of your personal bubble and putting yourself out there and I rarely do that in my life no matter how safe the space is. So it's really cool and thank you. I received probably like 2 asks aside from this one in my whole life, but yeah, I enjoy it a lot. ^^
As for what kind of asks...
Self, Job/Work: I'm good with sharing some stuff as long as it's not something that hits too close to home, but I would probably say that's the case. Asking about how I'm doing in general and what I do and what I enjoy about it is probably fine.
Fandoms: Asks about fandoms would most definitely be my favourite. I always enjoy ranting about stuff I love with other like-minded people. I love Bagginshield, The Hobbit, LOTR (Faramir especially), Ted Lasso (and particularly royjamie), Star Wars (obikin is very close to my heart), The Walking Dead (rickyl is the goat ship of that fandom for me), and probably my favourite otps are superbat (superman/batman) and spirk (kirk/spock) so I enjoy these fandoms too. Fandoms where I have no ships but I enjoy them all the same are Mass Effect (only the original trilogy) and The Witcher (the games, I only read two books so far sadly, I ship geraskier from the show but I don't like the show otherwise). All these things are something I enjoy talking about. ^^ I also like Johnlock/Sherlock and I played the Dragon Age trilogy (but I enjoyed Origins the most and aside from the Cullen romance and meeting Alistair and Morrigan in Inquisition, I didn't enjoy that game very much).
I write fanfics sometimes. I haven't written many and it usually takes me a lot of time to finish anything, but I enjoy it. I'm happy to talk about my writing any day even if it frustrates me to no end.
Story snippets ideas and prompts: Not sure about this. I think receiving them is nice, but I wouldn't be able to do anything about them aside from talking and speculating about them. I'm not very good at writing something from a prompt, so probably no story would come of it, but if it's only discussion people seek, then I'm happy to provide! And if it turns out to be very interesting, then I'm all for taking it further!
Pets: I have lots. I'm happy to talk about them any time.
Garden and Hobbies: Not much of a garden person, I'm afraid, but I enjoy nature more than anything. I live in a very Shire-like country, which is the best thing when I want to let my imagination roam. I enjoy running (but I started only recently so I'm rubbish), reading (fantasy and romance especially), learning French, playing video games, hiking, watching movies and tv shows, and I recently started to learn how to play the Irish tin whistle.
I like being tagged in things, sure! Something funny or heartwarming is usually the best, but I love posts with random facts which are super elaborate and interesting. It can't have anything to do with politics, though, tumblr is my escapist haven. :D
I think I answered everything to the best of my ability. Sorry that it's so long! Thank you again for sending the ask! I hope you have an amazing day!

Okay now I'm curious...tell me about your other blorbos (even if they're not Ghost related!) and your ocs. Pretty please :)
Oohhohoho you’ve activated my trap card 😈
Strap in for infodump
My other Blorbos include
Bill Cipher(Gravity Falls), Jareth(Labyrinth), Jen and Kira(Dark Crystal), Rian and Deet(Dark Crystal AoR), Just off the top of my head
Now for OCs we have my Ghost people
Rian(yes named for the Dark Crystal character I like the name and didn’t think abt it being so close to Rain’s name but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) they’re a sibling of sin who’s deaf and falls in love with Aether. I’ve written a few ficlets abt them! A couple I’ve posted and a couple sitting in my drafts.
Then my ghoul OC Atmos(hence the name of this blog lol) he’s an Air ghoul turned Quintessence. I used to TikTok’s in his cosplay but I haven’t done anything in months bc I got tired of TikTok.
Now my other OCs are from my original universe
You’ve got a Prince named Chorus and a wayward traveller named Bard. They fall in love (gay) but the kicker is Chorus is trapped inside a soul stone. He has no corporeal form just a spectral one. So through all of time they spend pining and yearning and falling in love, they can never touch.
In that same world you have a wizard called Alistair who is centuries old. He’s a tired immortal who’s bitchy and cunty and I love him.
He has a companion called Stafford. They were best friends (read:gay) in the university where they studied magic centuries ago and Alistair trapped Stafford inside a soul stone much like the Prince is. The difference being where the Prince’s stone is embedded inside a melodica (his chosen instrument in life) Stafford’s gem is housed inside the top of Alistair’s staff. (Because Alistair thought it would be hilarious to put Stafford,,,inside his,,,staff *crowd starts booing*)
Anywayyyssss that’s my rant feel free to ask more questions pls ask more questions I love talking abt my OCs

@a-wondering-thought woooo rant about fletcher and alistair because this is honestly the most interesting non romantic dynamic ive ever written
lets start with some of the parallels shall we?
both loved their respective love intrests, but not enough to change for them, not until it was too late. alistair choosing their duty as a knight over casimir, until it was too late, when alistair finally chose casimir over their duties as a knight, casimir was already dead. fletcher loving cyrus in his own slightly fucked up way, but not enough to change, not enough to forgo his quest for power, not until it was too late. not until fletchers mother, fletchers father, and casimir were all dead. not until fletchers hands were stained red with their blood. not until cyrus thought he was a monster.
the moral crisis of "i had to have done the right thing. please, god, tell me i did the right thing. i cant have this blood on my hands for nothing." showcased both after fletcher poisons his parents and casimir, and after alistair drives their sword through fletchers chest. fletcher convinces himself he made the right choice, his parents always told him to stop at nothing for power, he had to have made the right choice. alistair convinces themself fletcher had to be killed, it was only fair, it was vengeance for casimirs death, it had to have been the right thing, please someone tell them it was the right thing, because if it isnt, they have the blood of a prince they swore to protect, a child they watched grow up, on their hands for nothing.
alistair was casimirs knight, and they will never forgive themself for failing to protect xem, but they were fletchers knight too. they failed to protect him as well.
some other people i think might be interested because come on i didnt type out all this for it to go un-noticed: @clearcloudlesssky @serendipminiewrites @holdmyteaplease
(note: this post leaves out alot of stuff such as all the thoughts i have about alistair being the one to kill fletcher but that deserves its own post because jesus christ. also something i think i should mention is that i like to imagine alistair and their ambiguous gender was a young fletcher's gay awakening but i feel as though thats too lighthearted for this post)

Veilguard is going to be real fucking weird for me, because like, I was 15~16 when Inquisition came out, and it was my first real experience being... super conflicted about a game/media. I subjected my dad and sister to SOOOO much rants about Inquisitions flaws (and merits as well). Mostly about the failed resolution of the Mage and Templar conflict. At the end of all things, I do like Inquisition, of course, and in large part due to Trespasser, but it wasn't exactly easy.
So with Veilguard, I was already let down once by the franchise, and that was with the work in itself; and now I know a lot more about how shitty and mismanaged of a company Bioware's been, and how they fired almost all of their good writers, and I see fans bring up a not insignificant amount of lore mistakes/retcons, and how talky the dev and/or PR team is being, and I see how fucking badly it wants to be the next Baldur's Gate 3.
And I know that the multitude of choices in Keep would be hella hard to export into a new game again (and it's note like the carryover into Inquisition was a smashing success either), but. Dragon Age and Mass Effect are known as sorta choice-based RPGs, and this isn't always a good thing, as I felt that even Inquisition had a fair amount of choices that don't really... do anything, that feel like they're there just for the sake of having them. There's some choices that you want to make, to have the ability to affect the world, and then there's some that the game forces you to make, that you don't want to (the Inquisition does NOT have any sort of authority over the Grey Wardens. Neither should the Inquisitor have any over Hawke or Alistair/Loghain/Stroud. That was a choice almost solely there for the 'players', yet makes little and less sense for the characters involved).
And then only ~3 choices will be present in Veilguard. and it makes you go "Ohhh, no one but me really cares about these choices then." Which has kind of always been the case, but it kinda smacks of. the current devs really just want to make their own thing with Veilguard; which does make an amount of sense given how the team has been switched up, and they likely want to make Dragon Age: Veilguard, not Dragon Age Origins+II+Inquisition. But in distancing themselves from these choices and worldstates, it feels like it's (like unintentionally, but I can't be sure) distancing itself from the rest of the franchise as well. And I might actually like that, if that was the case, in writing this out, I'd had that the thought that maybe Veilguard might be more appealing to me if it wasn't Dragon Age: Veilguard. But it seems to me now like it's in this really weird sort of Limbo, where it's not close enough to DA to be the game we've all been waiting for, but neither is it far enough away to be something truly new.
So there's a lot of things I'm pretty concerned about with Veilguard. and not pre-ordering it is a gimme, but for me, for the first time in a while, this really feels like a "wait and read the reviews" sort of release. Because, in some ways, if VG ends up being a truly bad entry in the franchise or something like that, I personally could live with Inquisition and Trespasser being my personal ending with the series. Because I'd rather go out on a high note (or at least a medium-high note) with Dragon Age than a low one. (though hopefully VG will actually be good and this bit here will all be moot).
God, posting several paragraph long posts about Dragon Age on my tumblr blog, it really is like I'm 16 again. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
(I also still think Dreadwolf was the better title)

Hi so I'm a big fan of your blog but I've noticed you tend to reblog things with #my boys and #the boy and I. Cannot figure out who these boys are. Their presence is lurking on my dash and I desperately need to know. Thank you 🙏🏼
i am so glad you asked (warning: you have unleashed a dark and terrible force that is an english major talking about their oc's).
#my boys = two characters from a speculative sci-fi horror world. they both entered a clinical trial for a vaccine to prevent this supernatural(ish) mutation/disease, only for the treatment to accidentally make them functionally immortal. one (cassidy) starts finding new creative ways to kill himself as a hobby and the other (percival) is still moping about his wife from decades ago (she left him because he was stealing dead bodies to use for his own science experiments). anyways the two of them are horribly, disastrously in love and physically unable to be normal about each other.
#the boy = started as a short story but will hypothetically be part of a larger narrative eventually. scottish hunter named alistair in the late 1600s starts selling stuff to a vampire to help provide for his daughter, only for the village to turn on them because they suspect the daughter of witchcraft, so they kill her. he becomes a vampire himself as a sort of "punishment," believing he must earn his right to die by atoning for what he did to her. all the other hot vampires want him but he is so emotionally unavailable it is not even funny.
and while i'm at it i might as well rant about clarify the other two original-work-related things i occasionally tag on here:
#my doctor = my dnd character in an ongoing campaign im in. his name is doctor amana, first name doctor last name amana. he is also a doctor. his lab "partner" (they're basically husbands he's just in denial) went missing one day just as they began researching something really dangerous. he has also been banned from the university he worked at for blowing up a building and webbing the president to a wall. :)
#cock tag = this one is most recent/i had multiple posts explaining it but. how could i ever pass up an opportunity. call of cthulhu (CoC, get it now?) scenario my friends and i did that we all proceeded to go genuinely insane over. sci-fi horror about a rescue mission sent to a space station but Oh No eldritch horrors beyond our comprehension! my character i am usually posting about (and my beautiful princess with a disorder) is dr. alana h. fenwick, a software engineer who designed this AI (the cool "gained consciousness" kind) called CAIN that she fell in love with. her husband figured out he was getting cucked by literally a voice in his wife's computer, he tried to become a cyborg to please her but we ended up killing him, and then the manipulative station AI/eldritch abominations slut shamed her for wanting to fuck that robot. but it's ok because they survived and #lovewins. it was very awesome and i am so normal about her always.
sorry this post was long. but. hope this is helpful to understanding whatever tf is going on with this blog at any given moment in time 👍🏻

continuing from my post yesterday bc i'm still in love w the warden!adaia au, been brainstorming how adaia would get on with the other companions. its fun to think about given how motherless behavior they all mostly are
romanced or no, she's friends with leliana, but would try to nudge tabris towards her if they aren't in a romance currently. if they are in a romance, does approve greatly and it shows! she would be a little saddened if leliana's hardened but still want to be supportive.
exceptionally wary of zevran with the whole "attempting to murder her child" deal, does warm up some and enjoys turning the tables on his flirting. would still be wary in with a romance, but trusts tabris can handle themself.
she feels sorry for morrigan and her upbringing with flemeth, won't take her jabs laying down but understands where they're coming from. with a romance, concerned of course for tabris and does warn morrigan to be honest if it's a fling or physical thing or something more, with both herself and her child.
curious and concerned about alistair, esp after his reveal but pities him when she learns of his childhood (and is aware he's elf-blooded, but given he doesn't seem to know she doesn't bring it up). softer with him than some of the others but does seem to like a hardened alistair. romance wise she ensures he knows what the future is likely to hold as does his power as much as he dislikes it, but does strongly disprove if tabris agrees to be his mistress(+whatever the male version is).
would bring up marriage and future children regardless of who the li is, both serious and to tease.
wynne and adaia wouldn't always see eye-to-eye, most about the circle ripping children away from their families "templars are as kind to elves as other shems are" and "can't imagine knife ears getting good treatment in the tower. but otherwise she's happy though to have another "old woman" to rant about the "youth" with.
would strongly rebuff sten's whole "women can't be warriors" argument, but would be curious about the qunari lifestyle otherwise. draws favorable comparisons between the communal lifestyle of the alienage and the qun. giving a sort of bull/vivienne vibe tbh.
wouldn't put up with oghren's anything, but does genuinely feel sorry for him and what branka did. families breaking up due to this or that isn't uncommon in the alienage. does give him pointers on being a better husband tho using cyrion as an example.
shale makes her curious due to being a golem. would both ask each other questions since i'd imagine shale would be curious in turn about adaia being tabris's mother. would also feel sorry for it after its backstory is revealed, and would encourage seeking out it humanity.
loves the dog, best boy, no one is better in their little traveling group.
metaphorically tears into loghain if he survives after everything he's done to her child, herself, their family, the alienage, and all of ferelden. strongly approves of him being alive to atone. would likely have one or two topics about reminiscing of the past (with adaia being a night elf).

i've seen so many of your posts about soaring higher + as the raven flies and i'm desperate to hear more about (at least) one of them!!
Ahhhh thank you so much for the ask I could talk about both of these fics for hours!
Tumblr media
Soaring Higher is my hotd fic spawned from a collab with my friend (much like As the Raven Flies), and it focuses on three different OCs, Kaleb Dormaire and his children, Tristan and Therese during the Dance of Dragons. They all get involved in the Targaryen family drama, and it’s so wonderful and tragic and I love it.
Kaleb has romantic ties with both Rhaenyra (the mother of his children) and Alicent, which leads to a lot of complexity for all three of them that I am absolutely obsessed with and cannot wait to get into writing. Therese is involved with several men (ahem, Aegon and Criston) before ultimately finding happiness with Jacaerys that is very short lived, while Tristan has a very sweet and very tragic forbidden romance with Helaena. They all warm my heart and make me want to cry at the same time because ahhh they all deserve happy lives and none of them get it.
As the Raven Flies is my GoT fic that is basically just an excuse for me to write ocs to romance most of my favorite characters in the show because I can. The four main characters are all siblings and are actually descendants of the Soaring Higher Dormaire cast: Alistair, Nadya, Victyr, and Erwyn Dormaire. Nadya is technically the main character (she very much began as a self-insert, although she has evolved since then), but my boys have also started to grab some of the spotlight for themselves.
In that one, we’ve got Alistair x Daenerys, Nadya x Robb/Jon, Victyr x Sansa, and Erwyn x Arya (among many others). I love them all so much, and I have so much brainrot for them!
Each sibling follows a really different path, which I think is very fun. Alistair goes from the eldest son of a powerful Northern house to a lone adventurer to a king before losing it all. Nadya grows into a strong and capable leader despite the hardships she endures. Victyr learns how to play the game to survive and ultimately win. Erwyn discovers that he is more than just a bastard and reaches his full (maybe a little bit magical) potential. They all have such unique character arcs, and I love it for them.
Honestly, there’s so much more to these fics that I could talk about it, but then this post would go on forever lol. If you want to know about any characters or storylines in particular, I’d be happy to rant about them some more lol

i think i figured out what frustrates me with c*assandra c*lare’s newer books and makes them harder for me to enjoy.   in her older books (  the infernal devices,   or even the mortal instruments  ) you feel a sense of growing with the characters on the page,   realizing how they feel or what they’re struggling with through subtle dialogue or expressed through a pov belonging to only a couple of different characters,   and it’s all fairly streamlined with the plot / it doesn’t feel like the plot is there just to service relationships.   but it’s as if the more characters she juggles   (  and series like the dark artifices or the last hours have a lot  ),   the more she has to resort to telling you everything about her characters instead of showing or demonstrating those qualities in actual scenes or context.   add that to the fact that most of her characters in her newer series all start out as shadowhunters,   or as belonging to this world without the need for exposition,   and she feels she doesn’t need to build on anything else for us to care about their experiences,   and we’re all here to love any content she provides without question.   it’s like getting the info-dump of worldbuilding,   but it’s a relationship info-dump instead.

Curses, Technicalities, and Giving A Middle Finger To Death On Accident
Technically speaking, you don't kill the Heart at the end of GL+T, because revisiting the boss fight area shows it still moving and beating, just a less active beat. Perhaps i am just overthinking but overthinking is my middle name
So consider the following;
The curse isn't dead, just simply passed on to the new owners of the rings, aka our two favourite husbands (side note: who are coming up on their one year anniversary too!)
Or maybe, the curse is only activated consciously. So, simply put, if they were to want to be immortals (more than they already are, being Mr and Mr "I got shot but like its just really mildly annoying"), they could.
You'd think that maybe the "curses" on the townsfolk are merely put in place to keep the residents stuck on the planet, a fail-safe provided by the Olmsteads. But the people are clearly still suffering from said curses by the time you rid the place of Eleanor and Vincent, something you can see by just attending the reception afterwards, or even just helping Burton after completing the main missions. They seem to be persistent little things.
And please, one "curse" directly targeted at two individuals at a time, which has the ability to hold one person's entire being (personality, thoughts, etc) in a ring until they are passed onto a new vessel and reborn as themselves again, taken DIRECTLY from the heart of the IMMORTAL GIANT MONSTER, you are telling me some vault hunters just killed the couple who made it and it went "yeah ok bye bye"??? The rings are still made from the heart, and I am doubtful that killing the people attached to it would harm it (since it is, again, seemingly still alive).
Wainwright may have called them "just some fancy piece of jewelry" but odds are they got an immortal tool on their fingers right there. He said "til death do us part" but I think that is farther away than he realizes
Or you know...The rings are just...useless jewelry now and I overthought this whole thing. That is probably it

Morrigan and dynamic of the others in the origins camp pLEASE. Asking for dynamic reasons when I make you that surprise Leliana starter
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MUSES // always accepting.
you’re valid and also thank you for giving me the chance to talk about it ily mel
SO LET’S GO
this will probably be so long rip
Contrary to popular opinion Alistair is not the one she likes the least. She pokes at him more than she tends to poke at the others, yes, but honestly this is more evidence that he really isn’t the worst of them in her opinion; the ones she really doesn’t like, she tries to keep away from entirely (and we’ll get to those). Alistair, like Leliana, is not really the sort of person she’d be really amenable to, not only because of their ties to the Chantry (and they weight heavily on her initial views of both of them) but because Morrigan is not sympathetic to most other people at all at first. She has a very ‘survival of the fittest’ mindset, that combined with her certainty she has to look out for herself and herself alone really brings her to clash with Alistair in that he’s a lot more compassionate and caring. On top of that, Alistair is suspicious of her from the beginning, and Morrigan doesn’t really appreciate having to deal with that; and that’s without mentioning that after so long living in the Wilds, Morrigan is prone to attacking as defense. They’re both pretty mean towards each other as a result, specially at first, and their interactions are often antagonistic.
In spite of that, Morrigan and Alistair exchange lots of questions about each other’s previous lives and upbringings if only because they don’t care to be nice and are deliberately prodding even when subjects might be sensitive (still, it is a lot more than there is between her and some of the others, both in regards to her asking about them and in speaking of herself, even if she often avoids answering his questions). Given time, I do think Morrigan begins to see him in a friendlier light (which does not mean she is friendly, but rather that she’s not indifferent or that she hates him). By the time you go with Alistair to see Goldanna, for example, I personally take Morrigan’s answer to it to show that she actually cares a bit (she’s all like wtf Alistair you let her treat you like that?! you even helped her??? you know she won’t appreciate anything you do for her right???) because if she didn’t, Morrigan would very easily use a tone that was more that’s what you get for being an idiot who helps people, got what you deserved while her actual initial reaction is to be outraged because Alistair wanted to help someone who clearly didn’t value him or anything he might do. So yeah! tldr, in spite of how antagonistic they are towards each other, specially at first, and although she never entirely stops being mean to him, Morrigan grows to care for Alistair somewhat, in her way.
Leliana, like I said, is another one she begins being particularly unfriendly towards. Leliana’s introduction to their still small group is very tied to the Chantry and her belief the Maker set her on that path; and obviously, Morrigan is very much anti-Chantry and she doesn’t believe in the Maker at all, neither does she care for Andraste. Morrigan expects Chantry people to look down on her or consider her a threat or both; so her answer to that is to attack first. Leliana is pretty okay towards her on many of their conversations and Morrigan just cuts her off by being mean. Even beyond the Chantry relation, Leliana tells nice stories and try to talk about good things and look at things positively and Morrigan is not there for that (which sometimes is more of an emotional reaction than it seems, and which I think their conversation about mothers highlights in a nice way; she has no tales of nice things to share, and when she speaks of Flemeth and Leliana is like “oh... I see” Morrigan replies that she really doesn’t, which evidences Morrigan’s general treatment of Leliana at first and what causes that reaction: she doesn’t think Leliana can even understand where she’s coming from at all, and she doesn’t think Leliana cares to even try because her thing is pretty stories and holy powers and moral superiority which are things that don’t agree with Morrigan at all).
What she expects of Leliana at first is that she’ll act self-righteous and hypocritical; and she doesn’t really hold back from calling Leliana hypocritical when they all learn about Leliana’s past. That said, I think it would be from then on Morrigan would be less antagonistic towards her, or at least that she wouldn’t be so intent on simply cutting her off by being mean. Maybe it is because from then on she is able to see Leliana more like an actual person and less of a façade (because Morrigan does not believe the Chantry and its followers to be genuinely good and righteous as they would have others believe they are). Much like with Alistair, I also think they have one conversation that points at a much better relationship than where they started (the one about the dress! even though Morrigan is all aboslutely not!!! she never tries to cut Leliana off by being harsh and outright nasty as she is on other occasions). Towards her, rather than poking, Morrigan was initially very brusque towards, seeking to end conversations rather than provoking; but as she grows more amenable to Leliana, I can see that changing, and Morrigan getting to approach her and making questions of her own (as well as provoking her on occasion because she gotta be a little mean and poke a bit you know aksndkjsndf). Specially after they learn about Leliana being a bard, Morrigan tends to initiate conversations a lot more; she’s not exactly nice a lot of the time, but neither is she just trying to be purposefully mean to cut off conversations unless they turn to subjects she doesn’t care to discuss.
Oghren can die she doesn’t care. Maybe she’ll even help. If they never meet again after DAO it won’t be enough time. It starts with her wanting him to stay away from her and it just never changes. She wants nothing to do with him ever thanks
Morrigan begins with not being friendly towards mostly everyone, really. Wynne is another case of when this doesn’t really change throughout their journey. They clash very fundamentally on their stances about mages, and Morrigan does not hold back from demeaning mages that defend the circle. Wynne’s attempts to “help” or “guide” or assume in any way a mentoring role towards her are promptly shut down because Morrigan doesn’t think she needs that (she’s very much capable of taking care of herself thank you very much), much less from someone who spent her whole life glad to be imprisoned in a tower. There is one moment in which they’re less antagonistic towards each other, which is by the end of their discussion about the Circle. It is the one time Morrigan starts that conversation, and the one she shows some willingness in talking about herself to Wynne, though she gives no details; and Wynne takes the opportunity to try to present her side of the argument in a different light.
Even though Morrigan hears then, I don’t think she ever grew to be really friendly or to care for Wynne particularly. With them, the one moment that might show some sort of friendship-ness seems less like that to me, and more like Morrigan giving in to having someone older who did try to place herself in a position to offer guidance of sorts (if only because it’s such different guidance from that which Morrigan had before, and the particular topic they discuss is one that brings to surface some of Morrigan’s vulnerabilities, with their discussing her previous contacts with civilization, and how she ventured out on her own). In DAO Morrigan is still pretty young, and she has very very little experience with other people, and I think this is one of the moments where that just weighs a lot; she thinks she has to defend herself by arguing she was not always under other people’s protection, and she ends up being more open than usual because when it comes to her experience outside the Wilds, well, she doesn’t really have much experience at all and their conversation also suggests fear on her part where interacting with ‘the world of men’ is concerned. So it’s more one moment than a shift in their relationship in truth, I think.
She doesn’t trust Zevran, at first, but she doesn’t hate him. She’s not even particularly antagonistic towards him? Just suspicious with how he joins the group by attempting assassination and all asdkfnafn But she’s clearly very curious and makes lots of questions about the Crows. I think after enough time has passed it’s clear Zevran is not just waiting to kill them all, she’s pretty chill towards him. With time, he’d probably also be one of those she grew to care about somewhat, in her way. It’s just a lot easier for her to get along with people when they don’t seek a moral high ground (and she doesn’t presume they will, as with anyone tied to the Chantry), and with people that clearly had to deal with life in a way that she sees as more similar to her own experience. Also when people have similar stances in regards to freedom (which Zevran seems to have, given he tells her it is a fate worse than death to not choose who you serve) and generally speaking, value strength and don’t care as much to Do Things Because They Are Considered Right (specially when “right” is defined by very Andrastian views). So yeah! She’s mostly ok with Zev, as far as ok applies for DAO Morrigan.
Shale doesn’t like her, Morrigan more returns the sentiment than starts it. But in spite of that, I’d say she’s. Not okay, but not bad. Just there. Morrigan doesn’t care much either way. It’s by no means like Oghren, who she seriously despises; Morrigan doesn’t mind her presence, but neither does she welcome it. She’s pretty neutral about Shale.
Sten is fun because he works the opposite way of most of the others, in that she begins being a lot more friendly-ish towards him but that doesn’t necessarily get better with time, quite the contrary. I think she’d want to learn about the Qunari, and that regardless, she’s more prone to feel some sense of kinship towards those who are not Fereldan nor Andrastian. He has zero sense of humor and so she obviously finds it very amusing to provoke him; but at the same time, when it comes to more serious subjects, Morrigan objects heavily to his worldview (specially towards mages and women). I think the only reason why it never grows to be an actually antagonistic relationship is purely because they never really discuss that; for the most part it’s a very superficial relationship in the sense there’s no really getting to know each other, even given time, and it sort of just stays like that.
#oof it did get long#and I tried not to go too in depth for it to not get longer kajsndfkasndf#but yeah! that's the sense I get from her relationship with them from her part ofc#alistair leli and zev end up being the ones she's closer to consider friends in any way post dao#then shale and sten and wynne that aren't friends but are? long time travel acquaintances ig#and oghren who she'd rather pretend doesn't exist thanks she hates him#aiushdfiaushdfiausf#there's a lot of ranting in that reply sorry#also if you want anything more specific about leli 100% hmu any time#you know I'm always glad to talk about things#<3#copiesofme#* general: answered / DARK WINGS DARK WORDS.#* muse: morrigan / WITCH OF THE WILDS.#* character study: morrigan / MORE THAN THE MUNDANE.#* dynamics: morrigan & alistair / YOUR SELF AWARENESS DOES YOU CREDIT.#gotta make tags for all the other dynamics sometime aksdnfkajsndfjkasnf#but also in regards to in camp stuff specifically which I realize I didn't address#it's mostly a reflection of that#except when in camp she does tend to keep to herself a lot of time and stay quiet in her corner away from everyone else#and it'd be mostly rare that she seeks the company of the others#even so she'd be around when everyone is gathered around the fire or something#just you know a few steps away#bc she doesn't care to be there. clearly. of course she doesn't care to be included. nonsense.#aksjdnkajndf so yeah very much 'this is silly' judgmental way even though she's there when she could just go back to her own tent#bc while she doesn't acknowledge it there are nice things about being part of a group and she doesn't hate everyone nearly as much#as she tries to make it seem
