How is the progress going, if you dont mind me asking

pretty good, surprisingly. the hiatus was really needed cause social media was draining me like crazy. i’m halfway through chapter two already and i’ll probably do a re-read when i’m finished cause there are a lot of points which need to come across clearly + some foreshadowing for future chapters.

my cousin ended up spilling orange juice on my keyboard so i needed to order a replacement and it’s gonna come on the 30th. in the meantime, i’m just making some edits and writing down plot points in my notepad whenever inspiration strikes. y’all won’t have to wait too long for an update, rest assured.

hi everyone! no page today, probably not sunday either. my pc has been out of commission for over a month so i've been drawing on my laptop--but i'm getting to the point where i really would like to 3d model my backgrounds to make them a little easier on me and give me more energy to experiment/make pages nicer, so i'm going to try to hold out until my pc gets fixed and i can do so for these next couple of pages.

it'll be a lot of front-loaded work, but it'll be worth it in the long run, i think!

“Did I wake you?” Gale asks, glancing at John apologetically, but John looks up from his effort to avoid muddy puddles to shake his head. Gale supposes it’s a silly question; John sleeps like a rock, dead to disturbances made by anything other than his own brain.

“Just my sixth sense,” John says, shrugging and shooting him a small smile. Gale snorts.

“You got a radar for me?” He teases, and John smiles wider, eyes crinkling.

“Built in,” he answers matter–of–factly, raising a hand and making a fist over the center of his chest before dropping it, returning his vigilant gaze to the uneven ground. Gale stares for a moment longer, floored not for the first time by John’s apparent obliviousness to the weight of his sentimentality.

Even knowing John how he does, it’s always unexpected coming from someone who a stranger might assume to be brazen and surface–level; John’s loud mouth and wandering hands do him no favours in that regard.

But Gale does know John, like an extension of himself half the time, and still he manages to render him speechless. The way his heart flutters as the sentiment hangs in the air makes Gale want to reach down his throat and squeeze it until it never beats again.

Please have some sort of reference sheet ready! It doesn't have to be a full drawing, just... something. Can be a picrew, a collage, a general 'something like x', but please have something ready to work with!

Let me know if you want your commission posted after it is done. If you do, let me know if you wish to be credited as the commissioner or would prefer staying anonymous.

What you can expect of me:

I work in three 'phases'. First is the sketch- you'll be send some quick thumbnail sketches to establish the general pose and vibe you want to pick from. Once you have one you like, I'll send work on the full sketch! Sketching is the stage for any and all big changes, so please mention anything you want changed here.

Once the final sketch is approved, I'll move on to the second phase, lines. Not a very exciting stage, it's just the lines! Again, I'll run them by you for approval first, to make sure I didn't miss or mess up any details.

Finally is the third phase, colors! This is both flats and rendering. I don't mind tweaking colors at all, just let me know if you want any changes in them. After this phase is approved, that's the commission done! Each phase should take around a week at the maximum, assuming there's no breaks in communication. If for whatever reason I might take longer then that, I'll make sure to mention it as soon as possible.

I have a discord which communicates slightly easier then on Tumblr, so if you have one as well and you don't mind I'll make sure to reach out to you there! Otherwise, Tumblr does always still work too.

I hope that's somewhat clear! Generally speaking my commissions are always open, no timed slots or anything like that. Whenever works for someone else works for me. But yeah!

Nothing like a hard fixed deadline to get me sewing again 🫠

Yes, my sewing machine is still broken. No, I still haven't found a replacement. Mostly because I want one that isn't going to break after 1-2 years and I'm a serial procrastinator. If I can make do with hand sewing, then getting a new machine is going to sit on the back burner indefinitely bc I can't justify the expense when I don't really need it. No solution as permanent as a temporary one, etc etc.

Anyway, my parents decided to spring a visit on me and they want to drag me to the beach. I don't own a sun hat because I prefer to stay out of the sun and I hate the beach. But my mom and I both hate wearing sunscreen on our faces because we wear glasses and they smudge and it's sensory hell

So now I need to sew 2 floppy sun hats BY HAND (plus hand quilting) before next Saturday

Oh and I don't have a bathing suit (re: hating the beach) so I need to hand sew some kind of Edwardian bathing suit that can pass as a modern day romper. Luckily I've been building up a stash lately (i.e. buying fabric but not having the motivation/suffering from decision paralysis and too chicken to cut into it) and I have about 2.25 yards of linen fabric that will hopefully be enough if I make the pant legs shorter. I'm also thinking about making a sort of cover up for sun protection (re: hate sunscreen) out of some pink silk chiffon that I'd originally been saving for a dressing gown but it would work well enough for that too. Thank goodness i held onto it. I don't even know where I would be able to walk in and buy (not-quilting cotton) fabric on such short notice in my area on a weekend...

Did I mention I work a full time job? And my sewing machine is broken?

I can sew pretty quickly by hand-sewing standards (made the Butterick walkaway dress in 14 hours by hand), but I'm going to have to take shortcuts and sacrifice seam integrity here. I have a feeling I'm going to be basting construction seams together and hoping they won't rip and frantically doing the hem on the car ride there. Gonna be a lot of raw edges fraying to nothing in my future. Maybe I can put the thing in a garment bag and gently wash in afterwards and then take it apart to sew up properly when I have more time? I should leave extra wide seam allowances just in case, but I don't know if I'll have enough fabric 😬

Oh and I definitely don't have time to make a mockup so here's hoping that my old Edwardian combinations pattern and newly drafted drawers pattern will suffice. No mockup, we die like my sleep schedule. At least there won't be any insertion lace

ragged breaths pour out of you as you scrub your hands clean of the crimson liquid which stains your hands and your very soul. it was brutal and beautiful—the colour and how the red strands swirled around as it united before falling down the sink pipe.

you blink and clench your hands. the very hands which so effortlessly carved up the heart from inside the man laying on your rough ‘operating table’. you are terrible, yes. there was no other word to describe you. a vigilante, maybe? but did it even matter when there is a part of you which feels the thrill of the killings and torture that you so cunningly come up with no mercy?

no, actually, there are other words to describe you. heartless, being one of them. the irony of that when you quite literally removed someone’s heart recently is not lost on you.

rotten. sadistic. torturous. depraved. murderer.

it was how you revelled in the pain you caused others; how you can’t stop the excitement spreading across your body when you see the utter terror in their eyes; how you sometimes let them have a moment of freedom, just to tear it all away at once and see as hopelessness encompasses every cell of their body. the scalpel that you used in carving the man’s heart probably possessed more sympathy than you did.

you are not the same, the voice taunts you. you are not the same person who cried over the dead raven for night’s on end. you can’t even recognise yourself. you are twisted and depraved and oh-so sick in the head. you are broken in ways you don’t even know.

you try to deny it at first, try to resist with every shaky breath that you do this for the greater good. but you know, deep down, you know that this is what you are: a monster masquerading as a human. you have as much heart as the corpse on your operating table with the empty chest.

you try to find some semblance of yourself on the broken pieces of the vanity mirror scattered around you. but you can truly see your twisted visage on the abnormal reflections. it was as if a sculptor had chipped away at you to add all the cruelty of the world and none of its gentleness.
